Hurricane Ian makes landfall in Southwestern Florida, more than 1M without power
Hurricane Ian makes landfall in Southwestern Florida, more than 1M without power
Hurricane Ian, just shy of a Category 5 storm, has made landfall in southwest Florida and more than 1 million people are without power. Fox News is updating with the latest news surrounding the storm, its impact, travel and emergency updates.

Fast Facts
  • Hurricane Ian made landfall in Southwestern Florida just after 3 p.m. EDT

  • More than 1 million utility customers now in the dark

  • Ian's maximum sustained winds were estimated to be near 150 mph

  • Gov. Ron DeSantis earlier urged residents to evacuate

  • Hurricane waters flood southern Florida homes

  • Ian moved inland in the Cape Coral-Punta area around 4 p.m.

Ron DeSantis says Ian to rank as ‘top 5 hurricanes’ to hit Florida
Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday provided an update on Hurricane Ian hours after it made landfall in Southwest Florida as a Category 4 storm.

DeSantis said the storm surge has likely peaked but has done a lot of damage and is going to continue moving through Florida.

“You're going to see hurricane force winds in places in central Florida, perhaps,” he said. “It's clearly a very strong tropical storm all the way until it exits the Florida peninsula in the Atlantic Ocean.”

He predicted that Hurricane Ian would “rank as one of the top five hurricanes to ever hit the Florida peninsula.”

DeSantis said he had sent a letter to the Biden administration for a major disaster declaration for all of Florida’s 67 counties requesting the federal government do a 100% reimbursement up front for 60 days to help the state move forward with its response and recovery phase.

On recovery efforts, DeSantis said Florida has nearly 250 aircraft, more than six hundred high water vehicles and more than 300 boats of all drafts and sizes, including 250 already stationed in the major impacted areas and nearly 50 that are staged and ready at a moment’s notice.

DeSantis urged people to not let their guard down even after the storm has passed, noting that fatalities in past hurricanes were higher post-storm than before.

“In Hurricane Irma, there were seven fatalities directly because of thee storm and there were 77 fatalities that were a result of post-storm,” he said. “A lot of that is standing water, downed power lines, and misuse of generators. So, please take precautions.”

Fairfax urban search and rescue team deployed to Florida ahead of Ian
[Editor's note: Search and rescue teams have  been dispatched from all over the country to assist in coping with the impact of Hurricane Ian. This is one example of these deployments. This article was published last weekend, on Saturday, September 24th.]

Members of Virginia Task Force 1, Fairfax County’s international urban-search-and-rescue team, have been deployed to Florida ahead of what is now Tropical Storm Ian.

In partnership with FEMA, a 45-person task force from Fairfax will head to Florida along with two other FEMA teams.

Ian is forecast to approach Florida’s west coast at or near major hurricane strength early next week. The National Hurricane Center reported Saturday “increasing confidence in multiple life-threatening hazards: storm surge, hurricane-force winds and rainfall flooding.”

Va. Task Force 1 is a self-contained team consisting of technical search-and-rescue specialists, structural engineers, physicians, paramedics, search canines, and communications and planning specialists from all over Northern Virginia.

You can follow the team’s travels on their Twitter page(Includes photos ot search and rescue dogs; and this unit preparing for deployment.)

Hurricane Ian is a storm we'll 'talk about for many years to come: National Weather Service director

National Weather Service Director Ken Graham called Hurricane Ian a "historic event" that will be talked about "for many years to come" Wednesday.

"I wish this wasn't a forecast I had to deliver," Graham said. "I wish this wasn't a forecast that's about to come true. This is a devastating storm for parts of Florida, not just on the southwest coast, but also inland associated with some of these impacts."

"This is going to be a storm we talk about for many years to come," Graham said.
"Historic event," he added.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the American Red Cross stressed that they have pre-positioned resources to respond to the Category 4 storm, whose dangerous eyewall is moving onshore in Florida's west coast.

With historic winds and a rapid approach towards the Sunshine State, the National Weather Service is utilizing weather balloons and radar to stay as up-to-date as possible.

"I literally have my phone up here because things keep changing as we speak with a storm like this. It's very common, so I'll be able to bring you the latest information," Graham said. (Fox News) Read more here.

U.S. Embassy in Moscow urges American citizens to leave Russia 'immediately'
U.S. Embassy in Moscow urges American citizens to leave Russia 'immediately'
The embassy warned that Russian-U.S. dual nationals could be conscripted by the Kremlin for military service.

The embassy urged U.S. citizens to make independent arrangements “as soon as possible,” as commercial flight options are extremely limited but overland car and bus routes are still open. The embassy said it has limited options to help Americans in Russia, whose transportation options “may suddenly become even more limited.”

The alert also warned Americans that Russia may refuse to acknowledge U.S. citizenship for dual nationals, try to prevent their departure from Russia, prevent access to consular assistance or even conscript dual nationals for military service. The embassy added that basic human rights such as the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression are not guaranteed in Russia.

“Avoid all political or social protests and do not photograph security personnel at these events,” the embassy warned. “Russian authorities have arrested U.S. citizens who have participated in demonstrations.” (Politico) Read more.

FOCUS ON ISRAEL

1. Iran’s Threats Against Israel’s Nuclear Facilities Must be Taken Seriously, Israel’s Atomic Energy Head Warns - Algemeiner

The threats by Iran and its proxies to target Israel’s nuclear facilities need to be taken seriously, the country’s Atomic Energy Commission chief warned the UN nuclear officials on Wednesday.

“We must not ignore the repeated and explicit threats to attack Israel’s nuclear facilities by Iran and its proxies,” Brig. Gen. (ret.) Moshe Edri, said in a speech at the general conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna. “Last year, Israel’s nuclear research centers were once again directly targeted.”

Edri emphasized that nuclear security and protection has most recently come to the forefront of worries in view of the conflict in the Ukraine and threats of a Russian nuclear strike.

Edri told the IAEA that Israel’s facilities are upgraded and reinforced to withstand any attack, and he reiterated Israel’s primary concern that Iran is the “leading factor in the instability” in the Middle East which threatens global security. (Read more)

2. Chikli Disqualified; Lapid Had a Plan B to Take Over from Bennett -Jewish Press

In an unexpected move, the Central Election Committee disqualified former Yamina MK Amichai Chikli from running with the Likud in the upcoming elections. The committee argued that allowing him to run would damage the public’s faith in the “rules of the game.”

Chikli had been considered a “rebel” MK after he refused to join Naftali Bennett’s coalition with the Left and the Arab parties, voted against Yamina, and had refused to quit the Knesset. In the end his “rebel” status was made official. Idit Silman, who quit the Yamina party as the coalition was already dying, was not disqualified and can run with the Likud. The Likud plans to appeal the Chikli decision in the High Court.

Chikli reacted to the decision saying that it makes no difference to him. He’s willing to pay the price for sticking to his principles. He said that judge Amit is a politician in a robe and his decision is scandalous. (Read more)

3. Shooting attack in Hebron Hills, no injuries - Israel National News

A shooting attack occurred on Wednesday evening in the Hebron Hills: A vehicle arrived at the entrance to the town of Negohot and the driver reported that fire was opened at him by terrorists as he was driving between the communities of Adorayim and Negohot.

The IDF Spokesperson said in a statement that "a shooting attack from a passing vehicle at an Israeli vehicle was carried out a short time ago, near the Adorayim junction.”

"A hit to the vehicle was detected, there are no injuries. IDF soldiers are searching the area for suspects," the statement said. (Read more)

4. Absence of Israeli-Palestinian peace is fueling West Bank violence - UN - Jerusalem Post

The absence of any Israeli-Palestinian peace process is fueling West Bank violence and creating a situation of perpetual conflict, United Nations envoy Tor Wennesland told the Security Council on Wednesday after four Palestinians were killed in a gun battle in Jenin with the IDF.

"The current course is leading us to a perpetual state of violence and conflict," said Wennesland who is the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process.

"The absence of a meaningful peace process to end the Israeli occupation and resolve the conflict is fueling a dangerous deterioration across the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly in West Bank and driving the perception that conflict is unresolvable," Wennesland explained.

"Negotiations can no longer be pushed off indefinitely," he said, adding that meaningful initiatives are needed and "needed quickly." (Read more)

5. CUNY pulls former CAIR staffer from anti-Zionism investigation - World Israel News

The City University of New York (CUNY) has reversed course after it assigned a former employee of a vehemently anti-Israel NGO to investigate allegations of anti-Zionist discrimination.

The probe came at the request of Prof. Jeffrey Lax, chair of the business department at CUNY’s Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn. He alleged pervasive discrimination and harassment against Zionists and Jews on campus, as well as retaliation and a hostile work environment created by Kingsborough President Claudia Schrader.

Lax’s complaint came as Kingsborough and CUNY were under increasing scrutiny due to skyrocketing rates of antisemitic incidents committed by members of the student body, faculty, staff and union leadership, with administrators accused of inaction.

CUNY has 25 campuses and around 275,000 students. Kingsborough has about 10,000 students. (Read more)

1. Philadelphia’s Democrat Mayor Signs Gun Ban That Applies to Concealed Carry Permit Holders - Brietbart

Democrat Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney signed an executive order Tuesday banning the carry of guns — even by concealed permit holders — in city parks and recreational centers.

FOX News reported the signing of the executive order, quoting Kenney as saying, “This gives them some protection, some peace of mind, some ability to call the authorities when some knucklehead decides they want to bring a gun into a rec center, and they see it, that’s part of what this is about.”

The Philadelphia Inquirer noted, “The order bans guns and other deadly weapons at rec center buildings, athletic courts, fields, playgrounds, and pools. Signs about the prohibition will be displayed at the facilities, the order says, and District Attorney Larry Krasner said his office could charge those in violation with trespassing — even if they are otherwise legally permitted to carry the gun in the city.” (Read more)

2. FOUR Russian warships and three Chinese naval ships including a guided missile cruiser are spotted off the coast of Alaska - The Daily Mail

A US Coast Guard ship on routine patrol in the Bering Sea came across a guided missile cruiser from China, officials said Monday. But it turned out the cruiser wasn't alone as it sailed about 86 miles north of Alaska's Kiska Island, on September 19.

Two other Chinese naval ships and four Russian naval vessels, including a destroyer, were spotted in single formation, the patrol boat, known as a cutter called Kimball, discovered.

The Honolulu-based Kimball, a 418-foot vessel, observed as the ships broke formation and dispersed. A C-130 Hercules provided air support for the Kimball from the Coast Guard station in Kodiak. The US Coast Guard disclosed the sighting on Monday in a press release. (Read more)

3. Democrat Joe Manchin gives in and PULLS energy plan from spending bill to avert shutdown - The Daily Mail

Sen. Joe Manchin has asked Sen. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to remove his pipeline permitting reform bill from a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government.

Schumer, D-N.Y., had agreed to attach Manchin's pet project to a bill to fund the government in exchange for his vote on the Inflation Reduction Act. But amid bitter opposition from both Republicans and the progressive left, Manchin realized leaving in pipeline language could potentially trigger a government shutdown.
'It is unfortunate that members of the United States Senate are allowing politics to put the energy security of our nation at risk,' the West Virginia Democrat said in a statement. 'A failed vote on something as critical as comprehensive permitting reform only serves to embolden leaders like Putin who wish to see America fail.'

The pipeline bill would require the president to select 25 permitting projects for priority review, creates a 'target' review time of 1-2 years, and automatically greenlights Manchin's Mountain Valley pipeline in West Virginia. (Read more)

4. Americans Have Lost $4,200 in Annual Income Under The Biden Administration - The Heritage Foundation

New economic numbers show that the average American has lost the equivalent of $4,200 in annual income under the Biden administration because of inflation and higher interest rates.

Heritage experts calculated this shocking number based on different sets of data. Consumer prices have risen 12.7% since January 2021, significantly faster than wages, so that the average American worker has lost $3,000 in annual purchasing power. Further, as the Federal Reserve implements tighter monetary policy to reduce inflation, interest rates are rising. Higher rates have in turn increased borrowing costs on mortgages, vehicle loans, credit cards, and more. The higher interest rates and borrowing costs have effectively reduced the average American’s purchasing power another $1,200 on an annualized basis.

EJ Antoni, research fellow in regional economics with The Heritage Foundation’s Center for Data Analysis, released the following statement Thursday evening on his findings… read more. (Read more)

5. Tennessee Considering Legislation Banning ‘Sex-Change’ Procedures on Minors After Vanderbilt Scandal - The Daily Citizen

Tennessee state legislators are drafting new legislation to prohibit “transgender clinics” from performing harmful “sex change” procedures on minors.

The move comes after Daily Wire host Matt Walsh and his research team investigated and exposed Vanderbilt University’s Transgender Health Clinic in a story that has since gone viral. Walsh discovered that “Vanderbilt drugs, chemically castrates, and performs double mastectomies on minors.”
In the United States alone, there are currently over 100 such “gender clinics” nationwide, which provide cross-sex hormones, puberty blockers and “sex-change” surgeries to minors. That number doesn’t count the scores of Planned Parenthood clinics which also provide minors with puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones.

Walsh shared a video of Dr. Shayne Taylor who “explained how she convinced Nashville to get into the gender transition game.” Dr. Taylor, who is the Assistant Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt Health, shares that performing double mastectomies on young girls who want to appear more masculine “can bring in $40,000” while prescribing cross-sex hormones “can bring in several thousand dollars.” (Read more)

6. Russia calls UN Security meeting over pipeline, blames United States for 'terrorist attack' - Just The News

Russia on Wednesday called for a United Nations Security Council meeting over the Nord Stream pipeline "sabotage," on which Moscow officials are blaming the United States.

The Nord Stream 1 and 2 natural gas pipelines that run from Russia to Germany under the Baltic Sea on Tuesday each reportedly started leaking after reports of blasts. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova asked via Telegram whether former Polish Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski's speculation that the United States was behind the pipeline leaks is an "official statement about a terrorist attack.

Zakharova also posted footage of Biden from early February when he said that the United States would "bring an end" to the Nord Stream pipeline if Russia invades Ukraine. (Read more)

And turn My hand against their adversaries." (

7. Biden administration announces $1 billion Ukraine aid package - Washington Examiner

The Biden administration announced a military aid package to Ukraine of over $1 billion.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre revealed the $1.1 billion package at Wednesday's press briefing, which comes a day after Russia's rigged referendums in occupied Ukrainian territories went in favor of joining the Russian Federation, which has been a foregone conclusion since they were announced.

This package includes 18 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, or HIMARS, ammunition for them, which U.S. officials have credited for Ukraine's successful counteroffensive earlier this month, and 12 Titan systems, which are used to counter drones. It brings the total number of HIMARS the United States has provided to Ukraine to 34, according to a Department of Defense fact sheet. (Read more)

8. Republicans Introduce ‘Justice for Angel Families Act’ - Brietbart

Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) and Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) are introducing legislation Wednesday that would increase financial support and resources for angel families and victims of crimes committed by illegal aliens.

The Justice for Angel Families Act, a copy of which Breitbart News obtained in advance of the bill being introduced, would expand funding to angel families by amending the Crime Victims Fund. Angel families are immediate family members of those killed by illegal aliens.

The bill would also reinstate and codify the Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement (VOICE) Office, a Trump-era Department of Homeland Security (DHS) initiative that the Biden administration’s DHS, led by Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, terminated in 2021 amid its efforts to distance the link between illegal aliens and violent crime. (Read more)

- Lord God, there is so much emphasis on having sympathy for illegal immigration and people crossing the border for a better life but these angel families are often forgotten about. We pray Lord that you would cover each and every family with your love, peace, and joy that surpasses all knowledge and understanding. We pray that you heal every heart from trauma from losing a loved one in Jesus name amen.

- "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit." (Ps 34:18)
9. How US is using strategic ambiguity to counter Putin’s nuclear threats - The Hill

Biden administration officials have tiptoed around offering specifics in response to the specter of Russia using nuclear weapons, deploying a form of strategic ambiguity in an attempt to avoid escalating the conflict.

U.S. officials have in recent days repeatedly warned of severe consequences should Moscow deploy nuclear weapons in its war in Ukraine, though they have not outlined what those consequences would involve. And they have repeatedly said they are taking talk of nuclear weapons seriously, but have not publicly shifted the country’s nuclear posture in response.

Experts say the U.S. approach is the right one, especially given the uncertainty around how serious Russian President Vladimir Putin is with his threat.

“There’s no need to tell Putin what exactly we would do. This is where strategic ambiguity makes sense,” said David Kramer, who spent three years as deputy assistant secretary of State for European and Eurasian affairs during the George W. Bush administration.

“We should be mindful when a nuclear power threatens use of nuclear weapons, but we also should not be deterred from what we need to do,” Kramer added, arguing the U.S. and allies should not let Putin’s rhetoric undercut support for Kyiv.

Lord God, We saw in the last four years what taking a bold stance against other countries can do. Other countries need to know that we are serious and we will not play games. We pray that Biden and his administration would act courageous and confident making America look strong. - "Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” (Deut. 31:6)

10. Iraq: US army shoots down Iranian drone which targeted US forces in Erbil - Israel365 News

The US scrambled an F-15 jet to shoot down an Iranian drone that appeared to be heading towards US forces in Erbil, Iraq, on Wednesday, a US official told CNN.

US forces launched the jet after tracking dozens of Iranian short range ballistic missiles headed for Kurdish positions in northern Iraq, two other US officials said.

The initial assessment is that the launches originated inside Iran, the officials said. “This was a significant incident,” one of the officials told CNN.

“At approximately 2:10 p.m. local time, U.S. forces brought down an Iranian Mojer-6 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle headed in the direction of Erbil as it appeared as a threat to USCENTCOM forces in the area,” US Central Command, which oversees the US military presence in the Middle East, said in a statement. We again Lord just lose your peace in the Middle East and we speak to the winds and the waves and command them to be still! Stupidocrisy: The Government God Complex

The Daily Jot, Bill Wilson, September 28,2022

Florida Republican governor Ron DeSantis has declared an emergency over Hurricane Ian. Amidst evacuation and contingency plans, DeSantis had to deal with another distraction by Joe Biden and the federal government—COVID vaccinations. Biden is saying that “A vital part for preparing for hurricane season is to get vaccinated now. Everything is more complicated if you’re not vaccinated in a hurricane or a natural disaster hits.” This prompted the DeSantis team to issue a statement saying that Biden’s remarks were a “strange and puzzling assertion” and that Florida’s emergency management and first responders will help all impacted by Ian regardless of vaccination status.” It gets worse.

Hurricanes and natural disasters expose the weakness of governments to do anything to prevent them. They also open the window to just how strong a government is in exercising its authority to restore order or to demonstrate to the affected population the power of government. It would be no small leap to analyze the comments of people like Biden to understand at least in some modicum of logic how they view government. Here again, Biden is using a natural disaster that affects millions of people to undergird his misguided mandate that everyone needs to be COVID “vaccinated” as a major tool in natural disaster preparation. It’s very similar to using gun violence tragedies to promote gun bans.

Russian Nord Stream 1, 2 Pipeline Explosions—What We Do Know, What We Don't

World leaders and intelligence agencies are still unpicking reports of leaks along the two Nord Stream pipelines, which supply natural gas from Russia to Europe. Some believe the actions could be an act of sabotage, potentially by Russia or by the U.S.

Drops in pressure were first detected Monday by the operators of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines, funded and constructed by the Russian government, which have been at the center of the geopolitical storm fueled by Russia's war in Ukraine.

While neither pipeline was in operation at the time of the incidents, they contained gas under pressure within them, and they come at a time of heightened tensions after Russia held illegitimate "referendums" on its annexation of regions in eastern Ukraine.

So what will the impacts be on the global energy supply and on the conflict in Ukraine, and to what extent do we know the facts about how the pipelines were damaged? Newsweek Fact Check looked at the evidence.

Economic fallout from Hurricane Fiona to reach
$2B to $4B in Canada
One resident in Nova Scotia described the aftermath as "the worst damage I've ever seen here."

Cleanup is underway in Atlantic Canada after Fiona made landfall early Saturday, Sept. 24, as one of the most intense weather systems to ever impact the country. Hundreds of thousands were left without power and scenes of incredible destruction emerged from Canada's far eastern reaches.

AccuWeather Founder and CEO Dr. Joel N. Myers estimates total damage and economic loss from Fiona in Atlantic Canada to be between $2 billion and $4 billion. This negative impact to Canada's economy is in addition to the $10 billion in damage and economic impact estimate that AccuWeather issued for Puerto Rico.

At least three fatalities have been reported in Atlantic Canada related to Fiona, including an 81-year-old man who was swept out to sea, Canadian news outlet CTV News reported. There was an extensive search for the man, identified as Larry Smith, but search efforts were suspended Monday.

"Our hearts go out to the family of Larry Smith. This is an unimaginable time for our province and I cannot imagine the additional pain you are enduring now," said Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston. Read More

Scripture: Any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be My disciple. Luke 14:33

Lyrics:
All to Jesus, I surrender;
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.

Refrain
I surrender all, I surrender all,
All to Thee, my blessèd Savior,
I surrender all.

All to Jesus I surrender;
Humbly at His feet I bow,
Worldly pleasures all forsaken;
Take me, Jesus, take me now

Refrain

All to Jesus, I surrender;
Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel the Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine.

Refrain

All to Jesus, I surrender;
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power;
Let Thy blessing fall on me.

Refrain

All to Jesus I surrender;
Now I feel the sacred flame.
O the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory, to His name!

Refrain
