Trump Lawyers Fire Back After DOJ Asks to Continue Review of Documents Seized by FBI

|
Former President Donald Trump’s lawyers on Sept. 12 urged a federal judge to reject the Department of Justice’s bid to continue reviewing documents that were taken during the FBI raid of Mar-a-Lago.
Trump’s lawyers argued that the materials that were taken by FBI agents on Aug. 8 may not be classified. While he was president, Trump had broad latitude in declassifying documents and has a “right to access” any presidential records whether they are classified or declassified, the attorneys added.
“In what at its core is a document storage dispute that has spiraled out of control, the Government wrongfully seeks to criminalize the possession by the 45th President of his own Presidential and personal records,” Trump’s team wrote (pdf) to federal Judge Aileen Cannon, a Trump appointee.
Last week, Cannon sided with Trump and ordered that a special master be appointed to review the materials that were taken during the raid. A special master is generally a retired judge or prosecutor who is named to act as an independent arbiter on the court’s behalf.
The DOJ last week submitted its request (pdf) for a stay of portions of Cannon’s order pending an appeal to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. When Cannon issued her order, she also halted any use of materials for the DOJ’s investigation but stipulated the Intelligence Community assessment could continue.
As it stands, the Florida judge’s order risks “irreparable harm to our national security and intelligence interests” by allegedly undermining the Intelligence Community’s efforts to review the materials. (Epoch Times) Read more here.

|
Defense Minister Benny Gantz on Monday revealed to United Nations diplomats that Iran has vastly increased the number of its advanced centrifuges capable of enriching weapons-grade uranium, saying that the world needs to prepare sanctions against Tehran.
Speaking to a host of foreign diplomats in a briefing at the UN hosted by Israeli Ambassador Gilad Erdan, Gantz said that in the past year, Iran has “increased production of advanced centrifuges that enable its high-level enrichment, by many hundreds.”
Citing Israeli intelligence, Gantz said that the number of advanced centrifuges at Iran’s Natanz underground nuclear site more than doubled in the past year, while at the underground facility at Fordo, the enrichment capacity tripled. (Times of Israel) Read more.

(September 13, 2022 / JNS) United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Monday that a nuclear agreement with Iran was “unlikely” in the near term.
Speaking in Mexico City, Blinken said that Iran’s response to a draft agreement put forward by the European Union “is clearly a step backwards.”
He added, “You’ve heard the European Union and in particular you’ve heard the so-called E3—Germany, France and the UK—pronounce themselves on the latest developments. I can’t give you a timeline except to say, again, that Iran seems either unwilling or unable to do what is necessary to reach an agreement and they continue to try to introduce extraneous issues to the negotiation that make an agreement less likely.” (Read more)

1. Iranian General Boasts of Drone ‘Designed for Attacking Tel Aviv, Haifa’ - The Algemeiner
Iran has “specially designed” a drone capable of attacking Israel’s largest coastal cities, an Iranian general said on Monday.
The suicide drone was identified by Brigadier General Kioumars Heydari, who commands the ground forces of the Iranian army, as “Arash 2” during a television interview, Iran’s Mehr News Agency reported.
“He noted that [the] drone was specially designed for attacking Haifa and Tel Aviv, adding that it is a unique drone made for that purpose,” the semi-official outlet added. (Read more)

2. Terrorists open fire on Israeli engineers in northern Samaria - Israel National News
Palestinian Arab terrorists operating in northern Samaria opened fire on an Israeli engineering team Tuesday.
The attack occurred near the Jalamah checkpoint on the northern edge of Samaria in the Jenin district, when terrorists opened fire on a team of engineers from the Israeli Defense Ministry operating along the seamline between Samaria and pre-1967 Israel.
No injuries were reported in the attack, but a tractor was seriously damaged.
After the shooting, some 30 bullet casings were found at the scene. (Read more)

3. Ukraine army procures Israeli anti-drone systems via Poland - World Israel News
An Israeli defense contractor has sold anti-drone systems to Ukraine’s military via Poland, Hebrew media reported.
A source in the company, which was undisclosed, told Zman Yisrael that the systems, which intercept and drones, was being sold to Poland to circumvent Israel’s ban on selling weapons to Ukraine.
The firm reported the sale to the Defense Ministry but claimed to be unaware that Poland was serving as a go-between for Ukraine, which will use the equipment against Russia’s invasion in eastern Ukraine, the report said.
At least six Israeli companies provide the IDF with anti-drone systems used against Gaza, Lebanon and Syria: Those are IAI, Elbit Systems, MCTECH, Avnon Group and Spear. (Read more)

In a wide ranging speech, the head of Israel’s Shin Bet security service warned on Sunday that while Israel faces a constellation of threats, its internal social divisions are providing a boon to its enemies that “should disturb us more than anything else.”
Speaking at an annual counterterrorism conference at Reichman University in Herzliya, Ronen Bar addressed “the deep and growing rift developing within Israeli society” over the character of the country. In November, Israel will hold its fifth election in under four years.
“The political instability, the growing internal division, the breaking up of the historical common denominators, and the radicalized discourse — all these are a shot of encouragement to the countries of the axis of evil, to terrorist organizations, and to lone threats,” said Bar. (Read more)

The head of Military Intelligence on Tuesday said that if not for the Iran-backed Hezbollah terror group holding Lebanon “hostage,” Beirut would have normalized ties with Jerusalem.
“I look at the Abraham Accords and ask if Lebanon could be there,” Maj. Gen. Aharon Haliva said at a conference at Herzliya’s Reichman University, referring to a series of diplomatic agreements in 2020 between Israel and several Arab nations.

1. Food Prices Hit 40-Year High, Keep Breaking Records Every Month - The Daily Caller
Food prices have increased every month of 2022, with each month since February breaking 40-year records, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
The price of food at home increased 13.5% year-over-year in August, the highest it’s been since May 1979, according to the BLS Consumer Price Index (CPI) report. Since February, when the year-over-year cost of food at home increased by 8.6% — at the time the highest level since 1981 — grocery prices have increased every month, first breaking a 10% year-on-year increase in March, according to archived CPI reports by the BLS.
The rate of increase blows away the increases over the past two years, with food at home prices increasing 3.5% in 2020 and 2021, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The increases are also well above the USDA’s Aug. 25 estimate of a year-on-year food at home price increase between 10% and 11% in 2022. Read more

The DOJ has issued a flurry of over 30 subpoenas to aides of former President Donald Trump, a source familiar with the federal investigation confirmed to Fox News. The Justice Department also seized phones from two top Trump advisers in the investigation, which aims to probe Trump's unsubstantiated claims of a rigged 2020 presidential election.
The dozens of new subpoenas mark a rapid escalation in pressure applied to the Trump camp by the DOJ.
The Justice Department is investigating allegations of phony Electoral College certifications from 2020 that declared Republicans were the electors voting for Trump and Mike Pence when in fact Democrats had won and voted for President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Read more

4. Illegal immigrants who entered US since Biden took office to cost taxpayers $20+ billion - Fox News
The number of illegal immigrants who entered the U.S. since President Biden took office will cost the U.S. taxpayer over $20 billion each year, according to a new analysis by a hawkish immigration group.
The study by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), which advocates for lower levels of immigration overall, calculates that the illegal immigrants who have entered the U.S. since Jan. 2021 will add an extra $20.4 billion burden a year, in addition to the $140 billion existing illegal immigrants already cost.
The analysis is based on an estimated 1.3 million released into the U.S. by immigration officials, as well as approximately one million "gotaways" -- or illegal immigrants who have slipped past overwhelmed agents. 5. Goldman Sachs To Fire Hundreds Of Employees After Performance Reviews Return - The Daily Caller
Goldman Sachs is planning to fire hundreds of employees after reviews returned this July since being suspended during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, the New York Times reported.
Goldman generally reviews its employees’ performance once a year, leading to layoffs of 1% to 5% of employees, with the current round of layoffs to be closer to 1%, the New York Times reported, citing anonymous sources familiar with the matter. Goldman Sachs had 47,000 employees as of June, according to the Wall Street Journal, so a 1% cut would lay off approximately 500 employees.

A newly announced senior adviser to President Biden referred to a top Chinese Communist Party (CCP) official as his "friend" and took several phone calls from him between 2015 and 2016 while serving as the chairman for Hillary Clinton’s failed campaign, according to emails reviewed by Fox News Digital.
Four days after Podesta left the White House as a counselor to President Obama in February 2015, his assistant, Eryn Sepp, informed him that he would be receiving a call on his "house line" from Tung Chee-hwa, who has been serving as a vice chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) since the early 2000s. The CPPCC is the "key mechanism for multi-party cooperation and political consultation" under the leadership of the CCP, according to the CPPCC website.

7.Twitter shareholders approve Musk merger agreement - The Hill
Twitter shareholders on Tuesday approved a $44 billion merger agreement with Elon Musk, though the deal remains in limbo as a lawsuit between the social media company and the SpaceX CEO moves through a Delaware court. During the special meeting, the shareholders also approved a measure relating to compensation for Twitter executives resulting from the merger agreement.
After the meeting concluded, an official said more details would be provided publicly in the near future. A form will also be filed with the federal Securities and Exchange Commission.
Ahead of the meeting, Twitter’s board of directors recommended the shareholders approve the merger and the financial compensation agreement, which the board has already unanimously approved of. Read more

8. Israel says Iran 'tripled' nuclear enrichment at underground site over last year - Just The News
Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz on Tuesday told the United Nations Security Council that Iran is increasing its nuclear enrichment rate. Israeli intelligence shows the number of advanced centrifuges has more than doubled in two underground Iranian enrichment facilities, Gantz said.
"Iran is not only advancing in its capabilities, but also in its rate of production," he also said.
At one underground site where the original Iran nuclear deal specifically prohibited activities, the "enrichment rate has tripled in the last year," the defense minister stated.
The intelligence assessment comes as the Biden administration is negotiating a nuclear deal – despite Israel's protests – with Iran in an attempt to stop Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons. Read more

9. DOJ escalates Jan. 6 probe, targets Trump allies ahead of midterms - Just The News
The Justice Department's accelerating Jan. 6 investigation has expanded far beyond its original focus on the Capitol breach to target those who questioned the 2020 presidential election, focusing on former President Donald Trump and his associates — just two months before Election Day as President Biden spearheads a political offensive vilifying opposition party leaders and voters alike as threats to democracy.
Over the past week, the department has subpoenaed several Trump associates as part of an ongoing probe that critics describe as an intimidation campaign meant to instill fear in Trump supporters. According to the New York Times, about 40 subpoenas have been issued seeking information about the 2020 election and Capitol riot. Among those subpoenaed were top Trump advisers Boris Epshteyn and Mike Roman, who reportedly had their phones seized as evidence.

10. Democrat Hobbs becomes first Arizona gubernatorial candidate in decades to refuse debate - Just The News
Katie Hobbs will be the first candidate for Arizona governor in decades to refuse an invitation to debate her opponent in a state commission-organized event. Hobbs, the current Democratic secretary of state, announced Sunday that she would “respectfully decline” the Arizona Citizens Clean Elections Commission invitation to reach terms on debating her Republican opponent, former Fox 10 anchor Kari Lake.
No other candidate running for office in November has declined an invitation, nor has any candidate for governor done so since the commission began holding debates in 2002.
“Secretary Hobbs remains willing and eager to participate in a town hall style event, such as the forum she participated in last week in which Arizonans were able to hear directly from Sec. Communism is on the rise in America and seeks to take over the nation without a single revolutionary shot fired. Communism is found in the public school system. Communism is found in the political system. Communism is found in the federal government. But Communism went out with Gorbechev, right?–The tearing down of the Berlin wall; the fall of the Soviet Union. Wrong. Communism is alive and well. Its just not called communism anymore. It is reshaped into a form more acceptable to the American people. It’s called Stakeholder Capitalism, and other veiled names. It is disguised and is infiltrating every aspect of American society, especially religious circles. And once the pulpit falls, so will the nation.
Communism is a religion that seeks to replace God with the state. Communist strategists realized that America as a godly nation would never fall into their hands. So a change in strategy had to be employed. The strategy was three-fold: 1) appeal to Americans’ sense of justice by creating victim classes such as women, homosexuals, the environment, and races; 2) convince moral and godly people to believe that communist values are the same as Christian values; and 3) continue teaching secular humanism as aggressively as possible. These victim classes already have been established and they promote victimization for themselves and project hate toward those who disagree with them.

Flood victims in Pakistan face perilous conditions,
food shortages
|

A humanitarian crisis has unfolded from the weeks of unrelenting flooding in the hard-hit country, which is in dire need of food, clean water, medicine and clean sanitary facilities.
A dire situation has emerged out of Pakistan after weeks of deadly flooding displaced more than 100,000 from their homes and devastated countless acres of crops, leaving those stranded in desperate need of food, water and medical care.
Flooding in Pakistan over the past month has been brought on by record monsoon rains and melting glaciers in the country's northern mountains. According to Pakistan's National Disaster Management Agency, the floods have killed at least 1,314 people, including 458 children, and have impacted 33 million overall as of Sept. 5.
In July and August, Pakistan recorded 15.4 inches of rain - nearly 190% more than the 30-year average, The Guardian reported. And Pakistan's largest city, Karachi, more than tripled its monthly rainfall in 24 hours during monsoon downpours in late July, AccuWeather reported.
Structural damage throughout the country has been immense, with nearly two million homes and businesses destroyed, along with 7,000 kilometers of roads and numerous bridges washed away. Read More

"Lifemark", a new pro-life movie produced by Kirk Cameron and the Kendrick Brothers, hit over $2 million in sales on opening weekend and marked Fathom's highest grossing event this year. The film from The Kendrick Brothers, Kirk Cameron Entertainment, and Fathom Events opened Friday night for Fathom's first-ever seven-day premiere run in 1,500 locations. Fathom told CBN News they are looking to expand the film's offerings. "We're thrilled at the numbers we're seeing for LIFEMARK this past weekend," said Ray Nutt, CEO of Fathom Events. In this inspirational true story, a young man's life is turned upside down when his birth mother unexpectedly reaches out to him. The 18-year-old sets out on an incredible journey of discovery that leads to a staggering truth from his past. "It's just a story that is full of heart and humor, action and adventure, and you see the impact that one life can have on so many," Kirk Cameron told CBN News.
Executive producer Stephen Kendrick believes the story will cause Christians to ponder more deeply as they confront abortion and live out the Gospel. "I think the pro-life message that is beautifully interwoven into this story is really packaged and a beautiful adoption story," Kendrick said. "And I think the church has an amazing opportunity in our generation to not only support women in crisis pregnancies, but we need to practice what James 1:27 says – that pure religion is to also take care of the widows and the orphans. And having been an adopted father and seeing how amazing that can be and knowing that God's heart is for the orphan, we're spiritually adopted when we place our faith in Christ.
