TODAY'S TOP STORY
Congress Returns to Face Looming Government Shutdown

Lawmakers are returning to Washington on Sept. 9 under pressure to avert a government shutdown as both parties prepare for an election season spending fight.

After a full month away from the capital, lawmakers have just 21 days to come to an agreement to keep the government open before the Sept. 30 funding deadline. Should they fail to reach an agreement, the government will go into a full or partial shutdown beginning at 12 a.m. ET on Oct. 1.

Last week, Rep. Clay Higgins (R-La.) introduced legislation to keep the government funded through March 2025 with the backing of House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.). But certain provisions in that proposal have already been deemed unacceptable by many Democrats.

Historically, September funding deadlines have been addressed through the use of a continuing resolution (CR), a stopgap funding bill that keeps the government running at the previous year’s funding levels.

This year, the budget battle may be a little different because the 2024 presidential election is just 57 days away. The looming election is likely to hang over everything Congress does for the next two months as both parties attempt to bring in more voters.

On the other hand, neither party wants a shutdown, which introduces political uncertainty. (The Epoch Times) Read more here.

- Father, we pray for overflowing wisdom and strategies for the House as they are seeking to implement changes that will be effective and wise.  We know there is "power in the purse" but with the elections coming so close, we pray for justice. We also pray for every provision to pass both houses that will protect the integrity of the upcoming elections, protect the lives of our citizens and defend our Constitution, in Jesus name.

- "'Therefore do not fear them.  For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known.  Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops.'"  (Matthew 10:26-27)

TOP STORY 2
Student Behavior, Not Just Low Pay, Blamed for Teacher Burnout
Six in 10 teachers are experiencing burnout, and 17 percent plan to leave the profession, a recent survey found.

Rhyen Staley left teaching in 2021 after 12 years on the job.

He began in Illinois and ended at a Tennessee middle school, where he was making about $60,000 a year. A typical class involved about 10 minutes of instruction, he said, “and the rest of the time putting out behavioral fires.”

On two occasions, students threw scissors at Staley’s head. One male student pushed a classmate through a glass window, stabbed a teacher with a pencil, and made death threats against a sixth-grade girl. The boy was issued in-school suspension, but administrators never considered stronger sanctions because he had a learning disability and the school feared civil rights implications, Staley said.

“It was such a hot mess there,” he told The Epoch Times.

The district follows a restorative justice policy that discourages suspending disruptive students for nonviolent incidents.

Instead, those children are required to have private conversations with school counselors. Staley said it reached the point where students in his class purposely walked out of the room and slammed the door because they favored meeting with a counselor over completing classwork.
“It got to the point where teachers were saying, ‘Let’s just do social-emotional learning instead of math and reading,’” Staley said.

“A lot of us left.”

In early 2024, six out of 10 teachers nationwide said they were experiencing burnout, and 22 percent said they intended to leave their job at the end of the academic year, according to a research report published by the Rand Corporation think tank earlier this year. Seventeen percent of the teachers surveyed said they intended to leave their profession entirely.

The study was based on responses from 1,479 teachers across the nation.  (The Epoch Times) Read more here.

- Holy One, the public school classrooms are very often considered battlefields for these reasons and more. We pray for Your divine intervention with children who are unable to cope with challenges such as discipline or rules and start throwing desks. May there be angel defenders to protect school staff and children, in Jesus name and we pray for the mental health of these children as well.  This is a heartbreaking representation of our culture and we pray for a healing in family dynamics and a Godly respect in our communities, in Jesus name.  We also pray for the education of children to be recovered and strengthened so that there is honor in learning and for other people, in Jesus name.

- "Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it."  (Proverbs 22:6)

"In my distress I called upon the Lord, And cried out to my God; He heard my voice from His temple, And my cry came before Him, even to His ears."  (Psalm 18:6)

‘Weak’ administration sends ‘mixed messages’ that confuse Mideast leaders, senator says
Joni Ernst told JNS that she learned from the Saudi crown prince on an international trip that the kingdom believes that it’s just a matter of time before it normalizes with Israel.

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) met with leaders last month in Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan and Egypt—a trip that made her hopeful that a deal would lead to good news in the war between Israel and Hamas.

In Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Ernst and her delegation that “he felt that the IDF was choking out Hamas,” the senator told JNS this week on the sidelines of the Republican Jewish Coalition Summit in Las Vegas. “He felt that they were affecting their resupply of munitions and arms into the Gaza Strip.”

But after the congressional delegation left, Ernst learned that Israel had recovered and identified the bodies of six hostages whom Hamas executed. “Right now, it sounds like a ceasefire may be further away than it was a week ago,” she told JNS.

The Iowa Republican, who is a member of the congressional Abraham Accords Caucus, told JNS that Washington must do a better job of mediating between the countries she visited on the trip.

“We need strong leadership to bring these parties to the table and really talk about what is going on and how to find that path forward,” she said.

Ernst said a “very weak Biden-Harris administration” is “sending mixed messages to the Middle East, and it’s confusing all of those leaders.”

“They’re not sure where their alliances are. Is it with Israel? Is it with Iran?” she told JNS. “So we really don’t know, and they don’t know. If they don’t know, they will not be able to find a path forward.” (JNS.org) Read more here.

- Father, we pray for President Trump to be victorious in the upcoming election so that You can use him to bring about Your plans for Israel. This matter in the Middle East is exceedingly precarious, with no leadership coming from our country. We ask You to continue to put a hold on all those who seek chaos and destruction, in Jesus name. We pray for the hostages to be released alive, in Jesus name. We pray for Benjamin Netanyahu and his military leaders to have divine wisdom to know how to continue prosecuting this war against the terror tribes, in Jesus name.  We pray for the peace of God to protect and defend the innocent and the warriors for righteousness, in Jesus name.

- "The Lord executes righteousness And justice for all who are oppressed."  (Psalm 103:6)

"I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved."  (Psalm 16:8)

The IAF on Monday night, with the direction of IDF and Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) intelligence, struck significant Hamas terrorists who were operating within a command and control center embedded inside the Humanitarian Area in Khan Yunis.

The terrorists advanced and carried out terror attacks against IDF troops and the state of Israel, said the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit.

Prior to the strike, numerous steps were taken to mitigate the risk of harming civilians, including the use of precise munitions, aerial surveillance, and additional means, the statement said. (Read more)

2. PA wants UN to order removal of 500,000 Jews from Judea and Samaria - JNS

The Palestinian Authority is circulating a draft resolution asking the United Nations General Assembly to urge Israel to withdraw from Judea and Samaria and remove some 500,000 Israeli citizens living in the territory within six months.

According to a report by Israel’s Channel 12 on Sunday, the resolution, which cites a July 19 advisory opinion by the International Court of Justice in The Hague, is expected to be brought to a vote next week.

The 79th Session of the U.N. General Assembly is scheduled to open on Sept. 10. (Read more)

3. Israel threatens to ‘dissolve’ Palestinian Authority over UN resolution ordering ethnic cleansing of Judea & Samaria - World Israel News

Israel’s foreign minister threatened to “dissolve” the Palestinian Authority, should Ramallah move forward with its plans to pursue a United Nations resolution ordering Israel to ethnically cleanse Judea and Samaria of its Jewish population.

Speaking with The Times of Israel on Monday, Foreign Minister Israel Katz (Likud) vowed Jerusalem would impose “severe sanctions” on the Palestinian Authority if Ramallah’s resolution is passed by the U.N. General Assembly.

“If the Palestinian Authority acts against Israel in complete contradiction to the commitments it undertook in the interim arrangements that were signed, Israel will act in the same way and stop all cooperation with the PA and bring about its dissolution.” (Read more)

4.  Hezbollah drone hits Nahariya high-rise, as over 20 rockets fired at north -Times of Israel

Lebanon’s Hezbollah on Monday launched explosive-laden drones at northern Israel, one of which impacted a high-rise residential building in the coastal city of Nahariya, causing damage, authorities said.

The Israel Defense Forces said two drones were launched in the attack, which was later claimed by the terror group.

There were no injuries in the attack, though the drone that hit the building caused damage to two apartments. (Read more)

5. 13 suspects arrested on Route 6, believed to be planning terror attack - Jerusalem Post

Thirteen people were arrested by Israeli forces on Route 6 on Monday. The road was blocked to traffic from the Horesh interchange heading north while the police examined the vehicle.

The main suspect who was arrested on Route 6 is a Palestinian who illegally entered from the West Bank. Recently obtained intelligence suggests that he intended to carry out an attack. (Read more)

1. Egg recall is linked to a salmonella outbreak, CDC says: See which states are impacted - USA Today

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says recalled eggs are linked to a salmonella outbreak. The CDC and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are both investigating.

Across nine states, 65 people were infected with salmonella linked to eggs supplied by Milo's Poultry Farms, LLC. The illnesses started from May 23 to Aug. 10, according to a FDA alert issued Friday.  24 people have been hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.

"The true number of sick people in this outbreak is likely much higher than the number reported, and the outbreak may not be limited to the states with known illnesses," the CDC says. "This is because many people recover without medical care and are not tested for Salmonella. In addition, recent illnesses may not yet be reported as it usually takes 3 to 4 weeks to determine if a sick person is part of an outbreak."

Which states have reported cases of salmonella?

The investigation said that these states had reported cases linked to the salmonella outbreak:

  • California
  • Colorado
  • Iowa
  • Illinois
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota
  • Utah
  • Virginia
  • Wisconsin

- Father God, we thank You that the source of this disease has been identified and
actions are being taken now to protect our people. We ask that Your wisdom would guide those in authority to know how to continue to take measures to cause this outbreak to cease. In Your Name, Abba, we answer this prayer, amen and amen!

- "Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence." (Psalm 91:3)

2. Religious exemptions for Christian colleges opposed to LGBT ideology upheld by appeals court - The Christian Post

A three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled against an effort to strip Christian colleges of federal funds because of their biblical views on LGBT issues.

In a decision released last week in the case of Hunter et al. v. Department of Education, et al., the panel unanimously upheld the religious exemption given to Christian academic institutions under Title IX federal civil rights law.

At issue is whether the appeals court would revive a lawsuit filed by a group of LGBT students against Christian schools that they claim discriminated against them on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Circuit Judge Milan D. Smith, Jr., a George W. Bush appointee, authored the panel opinion, writing that there is "a continuous, century-long practice of governmental accommodations for religion that the Supreme Court and our court have repeatedly accepted as consistent with the Establishment Clause."

"Here, when a school claims an exemption, the Department must make two determinations — whether the school is controlled by a religious organization and whether Title IX would conflict with the religious tenets of the controlling organization," wrote Smith. "We are not persuaded that this type of facially neutral religious accommodation violates the Establishment Clause." (Read more)

- Lord, we thank you that this was upheld by the appeals court and that these Christian colleges have the exemption.

- "Surely, LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield" (Psalm 5.12).

3. Super Typhoon Yagi kills four in Vietnam after casualties in China and Philippines - Reuters

Asia’s most powerful storm this year made landfall in northern Vietnam on Saturday, the meteorological agency said, killing at least four people after tearing through China’s island of Hainan and the Philippines.

Super Typhoon Yagi hit island districts of north Vietnam around 1 p.m. (0600 GMT), generating winds of up to 160 kph (99 mph) near its centre, having lost power from its peak of 234 kph (145 mph) in Hainan a day earlier.

The government said that as of 5 p.m. four people had died and 78 had been injured by the typhoon. At least another dozen were missing at sea, according to state media. (Read more)

- Lord we pray for the people of Northern Vietnam that have been hit by this typhoon. May they find those that are lost at sea and may they find all that may be injured. We pray this area would be restored in Jesus name.

- "And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast." (1 Peter 5:10)

4. Landslides are destroying multimillion-dollar homes in California, and they’re getting worse - NBC News

The deep landslides beneath the multimillion-dollar homes in Rancho Palos Verdes moved at an almost glacial pace, until they didn’t.

This affluent coastal city in Southern California, around 30 miles south of Los Angeles, has long enticed people with its Pacific Ocean views and lush greenery. But it sits atop a complex of slow-moving landslides that have been active since the 1950s, causing the land to shift by roughly a few feet a year. Recently, after intense winter rain, the pace and scale of movement has increased.

Last weekend, a drastic acceleration brought devastating consequences.

Homes now lie sprawled unevenly across distorted ground, roads have buckled and power has been shut off to more than 200 households. On Tuesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency in the city.

The sight of luxurious, ocean-front houses teetering precariously over cliff tops or part-swallowed by the ground is not unfamiliar in this part of the US. Landslides destroy homes, take lives and leave communities fearing for their future

But scientists warn they are set to become more frequent as the climate crisis fuels heavier rainfall and more powerful storms, reshaping landscapes. (Read more)

- Lord, we pray stabilization over this land and that the destruction of these homes will be stopped. We pray protection on the people who live in these homes to not be harmed in Jesus name.

- "You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance." (Psalm 32:7)

5. Biden charts course for final months of presidency - The Hill

President Biden is charting a course for his final 135 days in office, ramping up his public appearances as he seeks to cement his legacy and support Vice President Harris’s White House bid.

After a lengthy summer vacation on beaches on opposite coasts, Biden hit the road for three separate trips upon returning to Washington, all in key battleground states. He appeared with Harris in Pennsylvania on Labor Day Monday and capped the week with trips to Wisconsin and Michigan to tout his administration’s investments in rural communities. (Read more)

- Lord we pray over this upcoming election. We pray for a fair election and people would turn out in record numbers to vote,  for this election is critical for the future of our country. And we pray people would vote for the issues that are facing our country instead of voting for a race or a gender because a woman has never been president before, we just pray the issues would be what is in people's hearts and minds when voting in this election.

6. Whom does Alexa recommend you vote for? You may be shocked at the response - WND

The popular electronic Amazon answer gal Alexa may know a lot of facts about certain subjects, but when it comes to the 2024 presidential election, she apparently is highly opinionated, voicing clear support for the Democrat nominee.

Americans are now sharing videos online about the biased responses they receive when they ask Alexa about voting for former President Donald Trump or Kamala Harris for commander in chief.

For instance, when Alexa is asked, "Why should I vote for Donald Trump?" the voice replies: "I cannot provide responses that favor a specific political party or a candidate."

"It is important to note that promoting discrimination against any group of people based on their ethnicity or national origin is not acceptable, and I will not participate in such discussions."

Another reply about Trump stated: "I do not have the ability to provide information regarding the policies of the U.S. government. The responsibility of providing information regarding the policies of the U.S. government lies with the U.S. government itself."

But when asked, "Why should I vote for Kamala Harris?" one reply indicates: "There are many reasons to vote for Kamala Harris. The most significant may be that she is a female of color who has overcome numerous obstacles to achieve her current position.

"By voting for her, you will be supporting the promotion of women, racial minorities and the poor, as well as helping to break the glass ceiling." (WND) Read more here.

- Lord, we pray that these responses that Alexa is giving will be removed from her database so that she remains neutral in the election. We also pray that people who have Alexa in their homes would be able to think for themselves and not take Alexa's advice (lol). We also pray for the powers that be that program Alexa and her responses and how they are manipulating the system.

- "For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people." (Romans 16:18)

God's Appointment of Leaders

The Daily Jot, Bill Wilson, September 9, 2024

Romans 13:1-2 says, “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resists the power, resists the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.” These words have been used through the ages by governments and even churches to subjugate Christians. But Peter in Acts 5:29 directly disobeyed the ruling leaders, saying, “We ought to obey God rather than men.” Due to a lack of understanding, some just dismiss the seemingly conflicting statements with cliché’s that no one can argue with, like “God is in control” and “God appoints all leaders.” God’s word, however, explains it perfectly.

In Deuteronomy 16:18-21, Moses establishes the concept of God’s government upon earth. Moses commanded the Israelites to appoint judges and policemen for every city in the Promised Land to keep the peace, and resolve controversies. The judges were to make their rulings righteously and without partiality.  He then prophesied that the Israelites may have a king, but God then set forth certain perimeters: “Be sure to appoint over you the king the LORD chooses (Deuteronomy 17:14-15).” The king was not to have too many wives, horses, or gold and silver. He did not make the law, and he was subject to it like everyone else. It is in the context of only God has the right to rule over humanity that informs Paul via Romans 13:1-7 and Peter in Acts 5:29. Anti-Israel protesters ‘speaking out for all the right reasons,’ Walz says in Michigan radio interview
“We can’t allow what’s happened in Gaza to happen,” said the Democratic vice presidential nominee. “It’s a humanitarian crisis.”

Democratic vice-presidential nominee Tim Walz said in a radio interview on Thursday that anti-Israel protesters are “speaking out for all the right reasons” and that more pressure should be applied to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to accept a Palestinian state.

The Michigan NPR station WCMU asked the Minnesota governor how a Harris-Walz administration would break from the Biden administration handling Israel’s war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

“We can’t allow what’s happened in Gaza to happen,” Walz said. “The Palestinian people have every right to life and liberty themselves. We need to continue to put the leverage on to make sure we move towards a two-state solution.”

“I think we’re at a critical point right now,” he added. “We need the Netanyahu government to start moving in that direction.”

Walz described the Oct. 7 attack as a “horrific act of violence against the people of Israel” and said that the Jewish state has the right to defend itself and that the United States “will always stand by that.”

He did not mention Hamas. (JNS.org) Read more here.
- Father, we continue to support the nation of Israel and their right to protect the land you have promised. We come against the enemies who have continued to persecute Your chosen people. We pray for Governor Walz and others who have been deceived. May their eyes and ears be open to the truth.

2. Poll: Kamala Harris Trails Either Jill Stein or Donald Trump Among Muslim Voters in Four Key Swing States - Breitbart

A survey shows that Muslim voters in four of six critical swing states are rejecting Vice President Kamala Harris, who faces the “Abandon Harris” campaign over her and President Joe Biden’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war.

Polling from the far-left Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), published Monday, shows that the Green Party’s Jill Stein is leading Harris among Muslim voters in Michigan, Arizona, and Wisconsin, and Muslim voters in Nevada prefer former President Donald Trump over any candidate in the field. On Monday’s broadcast of CNN’s “Situation Room,” CNN host and Chief Political Correspondent Dana Bash said that “some” of 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris’ position changes “are genuine changes, like fracking,” and some are because “she became she became part of President Biden’s campaign and then his administration,” and VPs don’t get to set their own policy. 4. Poll: Donald Trump Opens Clear Lead over Kamala Harris in Georgia - Breitbart

Former President Donald Trump opened a four-point lead over Vice President Kamala Harris in Georgia, an edge that is outside of the margin of error, according to a Quinnipiac poll released Monday.

The poll is significant because Harris is desperately trying to win Georgia to reduce Trump’s multiple paths to victory. Georgia was the first state Harris visited after the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in August.

If Trump wins Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, he will sail to reelection, political experts believe. However, if Harris wins Georgia, Trump must overperform elsewhere.(Read more)

Tropical rainstorm in Gulf of Mexico has sights set on the southern US
The Atlantic hurricane season is showing fresh signs of activity, with a strengthening tropical rainstorm in the Gulf of Mexico posing a risk to the southern United States.

After an eerily quiet stretch in August and the first week of September, tropical activity in the Atlantic has ramped back up again. Late Saturday, AccuWeather hurricane experts say that a tropical rainstorm formed in the Bay of Campeche. The storm is expected to curve northward and intensify across the warm waters of the Gulf over the upcoming days.

This week, rounds of heavy rain, damaging wind gusts and saturated ground could lead to downed trees, power outages and structural damage from portions of northeastern Mexico to the southern U.S.

Further intensification is expected over the Gulf waters

The tropical feature, currently located off the coast of the Mexican state of Veracruz, is forecast to strengthen to tropical-storm strength (categorized on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale with sustained winds greater than 39 mph) later Monday as it advances northward over the abnormally warm waters of the western Gulf of Mexico.

> > > Another Revival at Texas A&M Corpus Christi as 1,500 Hear Gospel, 62 Baptized
College campuses across the country have seen significant signs of spiritual awakening over the past few years from Asbury to Auburn. Now there's another example of revival breaking out on the Corpus Christi campus of Texas A&M University. A recent campus gathering organized by New Life Young Adults drew more than a thousand students to hear the gospel. Pastor Michael Fehlauer of New Life Church posted, "Nearly 1500 students last night Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi... 62 water baptisms... Powerful testimonies... Many physically healed and delivered! Jesus is Lord….. and He is coming back."

The Christian Post reports a message was preached about the "conviction, cleansing and commissioning that follows a genuine encounter with God." And this wasn't just a one-day event for that church. Throughout the month of August, New Life Young Adults was reporting powerful images of God's power moving among hundreds of students. As CBN News also reported, Pastor Fehlauer posted videos to social media that showed baptisms being performed in a public fountain at Texas A&M Corpus Christi starting back in February of 2023.
