‘An Angel’: Man Heroically Saves Dozen People Trapped Amid Hurricane Helene Using Just His Surfboard
Marty Thomas is among those receiving accolades after he rescued around a dozen people and their pets using his surfboard, WTVT-TV reported.
Thomas’ incredible efforts unfolded in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida, last week, when the hurricane hit, and some residents found themselves trapped inside their homes and unable to escape.
One of those victims was Anne McIntosh. She had so much water flooding into her home that the door wouldn’t open.
“The beds were floating,” she told WTVT-TV. “The couch was floating. My brother and his wife were on the counters.”
When the family began screaming for help, Thomas heard them from down the road, hopped on his surfboard, and headed toward them.
“He saved us,” McIntosh told WTVT-TV. “He got the door open. He paddled us across to safety. And just as an angel walking.”
Thomas was able to help others as well.
As for McIntosh, she was eternally grateful for the kind deed, repeatedly calling Thomas an “angel.”
“He’s an angel walking,” she continued. “He is the hero of Indian Rocks Beach now. And you do it so gracefully. Thank you. And I love you for it. And you deserve all the good things in life.” (FaithWire) Read more here

'60 Minutes' asks Harris whether it was a 'mistake' for Biden admin to go soft on border, VP repeatedly dodges
Vice President Kamala Harris was pressed by CBS News' Bill Whitaker about whether it was a "mistake" for the Biden administration to go soft on its border policies during a tense exchange on Monday's special election episode of "60 Minutes."
"You recently visited the southern border and embraced President Biden's recent crackdown on asylum seekers, and that crackdown produced an almost immediate and dramatic decrease in the number of border crossings," Whitaker said. "If that's the right answer now, why didn't your administration take those steps in 2021?"
"The first bill we proposed to Congress was to fix our broken immigration system, knowing that if you want to actually fix it, we need Congress to act. It was not taken up," Harris responded. "Fast forward to a moment when a bipartisan group of members of the United States Senate, including one of the most conservative members of the United States Senate, got together, came up with a border security bill. Milton could become among most destructive hurricanes for west-central Florida, including Tampa, NHC warns
TAMPA – Forecasters say Hurricane Milton has the potential to become one of the most destructive hurricanes on record for west-central Florida, which includes the Tampa area, as millions of residents continue to prepare for life-threatening impacts and evacuate the coast and other low-lying areas ahead of the monster storm’s arrival on Wednesday night as Hurricane and Storm Surge Warnings expand to the state's east coast.
On Monday, Hurricane Milton underwent rapid intensification and strengthened from a Category 1 hurricane to a near-record-breaking Category 5 hurricane with winds of 180 mph and a minimum central pressure of 897 millibars. Milton has since weakened to a Category 4 hurricane as the storm skirts the coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula and is expected to remain an "extremely dangerous hurricane" through landfall along Florida’s west coast.
"It’s worth emphasizing that this is a very serious situation, and residents in Florida should closely follow orders from their local emergency management officials," the NHC warned on Tuesday. "Milton has the potential to be one of the most destructive hurricanes on record for west-central Florida."
The NHC said the central pressure within Hurricane Milton fell to the second-lowest pressure on record in the Gulf of Mexico and the lowest pressure in the Atlantic Basin since 2005.
In terms of maximum sustained winds, Milton has also become the strongest hurricane in the Atlantic Basin since Hurricane Dorian in 2019 and tied for the fourth-strongest storm since recordkeeping began. Hurricane Allen holds the top spot with maximum sustained winds that reached 190 mph in 1980. (Read more)

Ron DeSantis says Harris has 'no role' in hurricane response: 'I don't have time for political games'
Gov. Ron DeSantis hit back at Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday during an interview on Fox News' "Hannity," as the Florida governor prepares for another hurricane, Hurricane Milton, to hit the state.
"For Kamala Harris to try to say my sole focus on the people of Florida is somehow selfish is delusional," DeSantis said. "She has no role in this, in fact, she's been vice president for three and a half years, I've dealt with a number of storms under this administration, she's never contributed anything to any of these efforts."
NBC News, and later ABC News, reported on Monday that the Florida governor was not taking calls from Harris regarding storm recovery efforts, citing unnamed aides to the governor who said the calls seemed political in nature.
"She has no role in this process. I'm in contact with the President of the United States. I'm in contact with the FEMA director, I'm obviously managing all of our state agencies, we're supporting all our local government," he added.
When Harris was asked about DeSantis reportedly dodging her phone calls on Monday, the vice president accused him of playing politics.
"People are in desperate need of support right now and playing political games at this moment in these crisis situations … is just utterly irresponsible, and it is selfish," Harris said to reporters on Monday. "It is about political gamesmanship, instead of doing the job that you took an oath to do, which is to put the people first."
DeSantis said he worked well with both the Trump and the Biden administrations when it came to dealing with hurricane preparation and response efforts. (Read more)

President Joe Biden praised GOP Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for being "cooperative" and doing a "great job" in his response to Hurricanes Helene and Milton, despite Vice President Kamala Harris slamming DeSantis for "playing political games" instead of doing his job in response to the storms.
"The governor of Florida has been cooperative. He said he’s gotten all that he needs. I talked to him again yesterday, and I said – no – you're doing a great job, it's all being done well and we thank you for it," Biden said at a press conference from the White House Tuesday. "There was a rough start in some places, but every governor, every governor – from Florida to North Carolina – has been fully cooperative and supportive." (Read more)

FOCUS ON ISRAEL
1. Reflections upon the Anniversary of October 7th - Israel 365 News
In the early summer, our staff got together to discuss planning how to commemorate the first anniversary of October 7th. I am always very proud of the Israel365 staff, who are all extremely creative, dynamic, and passionate about Israel, and yet this exercise was a depressing failure. Nothing we came up with seemed appropriately meaningful to mark such a massive trauma, that we are still reeling from. There were no words to convey our raw emotions. We had no ideas that could possibly do justice to the calamity that had befallen our people on Simchat Torah.
As religious Jews, we already have an annual memorial day to commemorate our bitter tragedies, which is Tisha B’Av. And in fact, for more than a year now, every day has felt like the 9th of Av. Our eyes have been wet with tears, our hearts broken, our voices lowered to a whisper. Yet, we are not permitted to mourn excessively and must find meaning in the depths so we can grow as individuals and as a nation from our grief.
While it can be overwhelming to know where to turn our attention on this first anniversary, by paying attention to what our enemies are saying, we can discover where to place our focus. Hamas called this war the ‘Al Aqsa Flood’ so we must double down on our embrace of Jerusalem, the Temple Mount, and the entire Land of Israel. (Read more)
2. Hostage czar says international pressure on Israel dampens chances of Hamas accepting deal - Times of Israel
There is a “direct and immediate connection between pressure on Israel and Hamas’s appetite for negotiations” on a hostage deal, says government hostage point-man Gal Hirsch, hinting at recent decisions by France and the UK.
“When there is international pressure on us, in the UN for instance, in the Security Council, from different government officials, from the International Criminal Court, from the International Court of Justice, in the hope of taking advantage of tensions between us and Iran, or between Hezbollah… and us, the idea of ‘no daylight between us and our allies’ is important. Very important,” says Hirsch at Reichman University.
“Hamas identifies every ‘daylight,’ every sliver of light, and whenever it identifies ideas like ‘we won’t give you ammunition,’ arms embargoes, removing reservations about the ICC, this doesn’t help us to reach hostage deal.” (Read more)
3. On Oct. 7 anniversary: Hamas rockets slam into central Israel - Jerusalem Post
Hamas fired five rockets at central Israel from Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip, the IDF said on Monday, following the rocket sirens that sounded in the area starting at 11:00 a.m. local time.
Alerts sounded in Tel Aviv, Kfar Chabad, and Rishon Lezion, among other localities in the country's center.
The military noted that rocket impacts had been identified.
Shortly after the alerts, Magen David Adom said its paramedics, operating in the area of the Sdot Dan Regional Council, were providing medical care and transferring two women in their 30s who sustained light wounds from shrapnel to the Shamir Medical Center. (Read more)
4. ALERT!!!! Israel-Hezbollah fighting intensifies, as memorials mark war anniversary - Reuters
JERUSALEM/BEIRUT, Oct 7 (Reuters) - Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel's third-largest city, Haifa, and Israel looked poised to expand its offensive into Lebanon on Monday, one year after the devastating Hamas attack on Israel that sparked the Gaza war.
Israelis held ceremonies and protests to mark the first anniversary of the Oct. 7 attack as the Gaza conflict has spread across the Middle East and raised fears of an all-out regional war.
Iran-backed Hezbollah, an ally in Lebanon of the Palestinian militant group Hamas in Gaza, said it targeted a military base south of Haifa with "Fadi 1" missiles and launched another strike on Tiberias, 65 km (40 miles) away.
The armed group later said it also targeted areas north of Haifa with missiles. Israel's military said around 190 projectiles had entered Israeli territory on Monday. There were at least 12 injuries. (Read more)
5. IDF shoots down missile fired from Yemen at Tel Aviv - World Israel News
Millions of Israelis were sent running for shelters on Monday evening as Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists fired a missile at the densely populated Tel Aviv region, the Israel Defense Forces said.
“Following alerts that were activated in several areas in the center of the country, the Air Force successfully intercepted a surface-to-surface missile launched from Yemen,” the IDF posted on X.
The missile was intercepted outside of Israel’s borders.
Take-offs and landings were briefly suspended at Tel Aviv’s Ben-Gurion International Airport due to the Yemeni threat.
The missile attack came as the Jewish state marked one year since the Hamas-led Oct. 7 cross-border massacre in which some 1,200 people, primarily Jewish civilians, were murdered, thousands were wounded and 251 were taken hostage to the Gaza Strip. (Read more)

1. Xi, Mao and CCP slogans replace Jesus, Virgin Mary in China's churches - Christian Post
In a sweeping overhaul of religious spaces, Chinese authorities have replaced Christian symbols with images of Communist leaders and party slogans across numerous churches in China, according to the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, which points to an aggressive policy to integrate the Chinese Communist Party's ideology into religious practices.
A report from the USCIRF cites numerous instances where crosses and religious imagery were removed from churches and replaced with portraits of President Xi Jinping and the late Chairman Mao Zedong.
The change is under the ongoing “sinicization of religion” campaign, which requires religious expressions to conform to CCP ideals, according to the panel. This means that authorities have “ordered the removal of crosses from churches [and] replaced images of Jesus Christ or the Virgin Mary with pictures of President Xi,” the report said.
“Chinese authorities attempt to exert total control over religion through an extensive, complicated web of state laws, regulations, and policies that the CCP and various government agencies enforce,” states the USCIRF report.
“At the center of the CCP’s institutional control of religion are seven state-controlled national religious organizations, often referred to as ‘patriotic religious associations,’ and their local branches,” it explains. “These are the Buddhist Association of China (BAC), the Chinese Taoist Association (CTA), the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association (CCPA) and Bishops’ Conference of the Catholic Church in China (BCCCC), the Protestant Three-Self Patriotic Movement (TSPM) and China Christian Council (CCC), and the Islamic Association of China (IAC).” (Read more)

2. Georgia top court reinstates ban on abortions after six weeks - Reuters
Georgia's highest court reinstated a ban on nearly all abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy on Monday while it considers the U.S. state's appeal of last week's ruling by a lower court judge blocking the law.
The order from the Supreme Court of Georgia allows the ban to take effect at 5 p.m. on Monday.
The lawsuit challenging the ban was brought by Atlanta-based SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective.
"Today, the Georgia Supreme Court sided with anti-abortion extremists," SisterSong executive director Monica Simpson said in a statement. "Every minute this harmful six-week abortion ban is in place, Georgians suffer." (Read more)

3. Vance suggests Trump administration would defund Planned Parenthood - The Hill
Republican vice presidential candidate Sen. JD Vance (Ohio) indicated over the weekend that a second Trump administration would again seek to defund Planned Parenthood if it continues to provide late-term abortions.
“On the question of defunding Planned Parenthood, look, I mean, our view is we don’t think that taxpayers should fund late-term abortions,” Vance told RealClearPolitics on Saturday.
The bulk of Planned Parenthood’s federal funding comes from Medicaid reimbursements. (Read more)

The world is demonizing Israel for its retaliation of last year’s October 7 terrorist attack by Hamas. Those who oppose Israel decry the loss of “Palestinian” civilian lives to justify saying that Israel has gone too far. They largely ignore that the terrorists use civilians, schools, hospitals, and UN buildings as human shields, which increase civilian casualties. Even Israel’s so-called allies continue to demand Israel stop its military operations against the terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah. The Biden-Harris Administration has pressured Israel to end hostilities by withholding weapons and equipment and continue pushing a two-state solution for peace. Both US and Gaza citizens are suffering the consequences.
In his book “Eye to Eye: Facing the Consequences of Dividing Israel,” author and friend Bill Koenig draws the correlation that when the United States takes action to pressure Israel to divide her land major natural, economic or political disaster follows within 24-48 hours. He documents this phenomena over the last 30 years. It is irrefutable. When you consider what has happened in Israel in the Hamas attack and all the subsequent violence here in the US driven by hate for Jews and Israel, the actions of Joe Biden in trying to once again divide the land of Israel by restoring control of Gaza to the terrorist-backed Palestinian Authority may result in disastrous consequences. Netanyahu confirms Nasrallah's replacement dead: ‘Thousands of terrorists’ killed
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed on Tuesday that Hezbollah’s intended replacement of its former leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed late last month, has also been "taken out."
"Today, Hezbollah is weaker than it has been for many, many years," Netanyahu said in a message tailored directly to the "people of Lebanon."
"We’ve degraded Hezbollah’s capabilities, we took out thousands of terrorists, including [former Hezbollah leader Hassan] Nasrallah himself, and Nasrallah’s replacement, and the replacement of his replacement."
Netanyahu said Iran has "conquered" Lebanon to ensure Hezbollah serves Tehran’s interests in the region by turning it into a "stockpile of ammunition and weapons" serving as a pseudo "Iranian military base" on Israel’s border.
"Now you, the Lebanese people, you stand at a significant crossroads. It is your choice," he continued. "You can now take back your country. You can return it to a path of peace and prosperity."

We cry out to You for help from all contrary and destructive winds, waves, and rain in Central and South Florida, in Jesus name!
We ask for preservation, provision, protection, and refuge from this storm for those seeking Your help in this season!
Lord, put Your finger in the eye of Hurricane Milton! We say "Peace be still!" to Milton, in Jesus name.
We ask for grace and wisdom and divine reversals to come to all those in its path in this time of great need of help from Heaven, in Jesus name!

Free Uber Rides Available to Floridians Evacuating to Hurricane Milton Shelters
Florida residents who are evacuating before Hurricane Milton is anticipated to make landfall on Wednesday can get free Uber rides to and from emergency shelters, according to the Florida Division of Emergency Management. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis mentioned the free Uber rides at a press conference on Tuesday morning that was livestreamed on YouTube. “Florida has also partnered with Uber for Hurricane Milton evacuation so you can get free rides to and from shelters in counties with active evacuation orders,” DeSantis said. “They did this with Hurricane Helene. They’re now doing it with Hurricane Milton. And so if you want a free ride to a shelter, you use the promo code MILTONRELIEF one word, MILTONRELIEF. So thanks for Uber for stepping up and helping Floridians when they’re in need.” The list of available shelters is posted and updated constantly on FloridaDisaster.org. To use the promo code MILTONRELIEF, users need to open the Uber app, tap on Account at the bottom right of the screen, and then tap Wallet.
The National Hurricane Center reported Tuesday afternoon that while the hurricane had weakened from a category 5 to a 4 overnight, it has since rebounded and is approaching 5 again. Tampa Bay is expected to get a storm surge of 12-15 feet when the hurricane makes landfall on Wednesday night. The mayor of Tampa, Jane Castor, appeared on CNN late Monday to warn about just how deadly Hurricane Milton is predicted to be. “This is literally catastrophic. And I can say without any dramatization whatsoever, if you choose to stay in one of those evacuation areas, you’re gonna die,” Castor told CNN. “Some of the predictions are saying that Pinellas County to the south of us, the entire county is going to be underwater. So this is something that I have never seen in my life,” Castor said, stressing just how historic this powerful storm could be.

NASA: New Insights into How Mars Became Uninhabitable
NASA’s Curiosity rover, currently exploring Gale crater on Mars, is providing new details about how the ancient Martian climate went from potentially suitable for life – with evidence for widespread liquid water on the surface – to a surface that is inhospitable to terrestrial life as we know it.
Although the surface of Mars is frigid and hostile to life today, NASA’s robotic explorers at Mars are searching for clues as to whether it could have supported life in the distant past. Researchers used instruments on board Curiosity to measure the isotopic composition of carbon-rich minerals (carbonates) found in Gale crater and discovered new insights into how the Red Planet’s ancient climate transformed.
“The isotope values of these carbonates point toward extreme amounts of evaporation, suggesting that these carbonates likely formed in a climate that could only support transient liquid water,” said David Burtt of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, and lead author of a paper describing this research published October 7 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. “Our samples are not consistent with an ancient environment with life (biosphere) on the surface of Mars, although this does not rule out the possibility of an underground biosphere or a surface biosphere that began and ended before these carbonates formed.” Read More
