Israel election:
With divisions deepening, Israelis to decide if Netanyahu should return to power
|
|
As Israelis trudge to the polls for the fifth time in less than four years, both the public and pundits agree that this election — just like the previous four — is about whether former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should return to power as the country’s leader.
Most also agree that the Nov. 1 vote will do little to shift the logjam that has left the country in political limbo since December 2018.
A poll published Friday — among the final polls taken ahead of Election Day — by Israel’s highest-rated news show, Channel 12, shows Netanyahu’s right-wing Likud party receiving 31 seats in Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, and the bloc of parties that have committed to supporting the former prime minister receiving only 60, making him still one seat short of what he needs to form a solid coalition. - Lord God, we lift up this critical election in our beloved nation of Israel before Your Throne of Grace. We ask that You would bestow Your wisdom upon every voter that will head to the polls tomorrow to vote for the party whose leader will then serve as Israel's Prime Minister.
We pray for safety for all those who will head to the polls, and that Your will be done in this election. We ask this in Your mignty Name, amen and amen.

Putin blasts West, says world faces most dangerous decade since WW2
|
|
President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that the world faced the most dangerous decade since World War Two...
In one of his longest public appearances since he sent troops into Ukraine on Feb. 24, Putin signalled he had no regrets about what he calls "a special operation" and accused the West of inciting the war and of playing a "dangerous, bloody and dirty" game that was sowing chaos across the world.
"The historical period of the West's undivided dominance over world affairs is coming to an end," Putin, Russia's paramount leader, told the Valdai Discussion Club during a session entitled "A Post-Hegemonic World: Justice and Security for Everyone".
"We are standing at a historical frontier: Ahead is probably the most dangerous, unpredictable and, at the same time, important decade since the end of World War Two." (Reuters) Read more here.

- Abba Father God, it seems that, as the weeks roll by, the rhetoric is becoming more and more inflamed regarding the danger of a nuclear threat. We ask, dear Lord, that You would move upon the hearts of Pulin, Biden and Zelensky to back down from this dangerous narrative, so that their differences might be worked out according to Your will. Thank You, dear Lord, for hearing our prayer, amen and amen.

Biden uses attack on Pelosi's husband to try to attack MAGA Republicans
(Please note: the title of this article is posted on www.watch.org)

|
President Biden commented on the attack against Paul Pelosi, stating it's "despicable" during a Friday night speech.
Biden made the comments in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband was attacked on early Friday morning in the couple's San Francisco residence.
"This is despicable. There's no place in America. There's too much violence, political violence, too much hatred, too much vitriol," Biden said. "And what makes us think that one party can talk about stolen elections? COVID being a hoax? It's all a bunch of lies."
Biden also commented on what [Paul Pelosi's attacker David] DePape allegedly said during the attack, "Where is Nancy, where is Nancy?," stating that the Jan. 6 Capitol rioters used the same language. (Fox News) Read more here.

- Father God, we lift our land before You today, asking for mercy in time of need. Lord God, let this tragedy not become "fuel for the fodder" of those who will wish to turn Paul Pelosi's near death experience into a political statement. Instead, let healing come to our land, in Your Name, amen and amen.
- " ... if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven." (Matthew 18:19)

1. Iran working to undermine upcoming Israeli election - World Israel News
Iran has been using its cyber capabilities recently to try sowing division in Israel ahead of national elections Tuesday, according to the Shabak internal security agency and civilian experts.
Among Iran’s constant attempted cyberattacks on critical infrastructure and Israel’s military, those in the field have identified these more insidious bids that are aimed at weakening Israeli society’s basic sense of unity.
Iran is trying “to influence Israeli society by spreading lies with political content,” researcher Ofir Barel of Tel Aviv University’s Workshop for Science, Technology and Security told Agence France Press (AFP) Sunday.
“We see in many instances fake Iranian accounts that can come in large groups of hundreds and either spread divisive and inciting messages, or spread lies to harm the image of a certain politician,” he said. “The aim is not to harm a specific politician but to encourage polarization and chaos in Israeli politics, which is already complicated due to the political gridlock.” (Read more)

2. Israel elections: Politicians enter final preparations as voting day nears - Jerusalem Post
Politicians and political candidatesbegan to wrap up their campaigns and preparations over the weekend ahead of Tuesday's election. In accordance with Israeli law, no more polls will be published until the exit polls begin at 10 p.m. on Tuesday evening.
On Saturday, Meretz and Hadash Ta’al continued their strategy of calling people to vote for them so they won’t fall under the electoral threshold, known colloquially as “gevalt” campaigns.
Hadash Ta’al, led by MKs Ayman Odeh and Ahmad Tibi, held a press conference in Shfaram calling on Jewish Israelis to vote for them. (Read more)

3. ‘To Vote for Ben Gvir is to Vote Against IDF Soldiers,’ PM Lapid Warns Ahead of Upcoming Israeli Elections - JNS
Less than 48 hours before Israelis will go to the polls for the fifth time in less than four years, Prime Minister Yair Lapid warned about the danger of voting for the leader of far-right Otzma Yehudit party MK Itamar Ben Gvir.
“I would prefer him not be part of the political system because he is dangerous to IDF soldiers,” Lapid said Sunday in an interview with Israeli news site Walla. “To vote for Ben Gvir is to vote against the IDF.”
As an ardent Kahane supporter, Ben Gvir was not allowed to serve in the IDF and in the past he has been charged numerous times for incitement to violence or hate speech. Over the past year, the far-right lawmaker has been rising in popularity advocating for the Israeli annexation of the occupied West Bank and the overhaul of country’s judicial system.

4. Range of UN states come to Israel’s defense in face of latest Commission of Inquiry report - JNS
(October 28, 2022 / JNS) A number of United Nations member states came to Israel’s defense on Thursday as a controversial U.N. Commission of Inquiry presented its second report to the body.
Several states condemned the commission, mandated to investigate any and all aspects of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict since its roots, for both its bias and an anti-Semitic remark made recently by one of its members.
In an interview with an anti-Israeli website this summer, COI member Miloon Kothari allegrd that social media was controlled by the “Jewish lobby.” He would later issue an apology for that remark, along with a comment in the same interview questioning whether Isrsel should be allowed to hold U.N. membership. 1. Nancy Pelosi's husband Paul Pelosi attacked by suspect David DePape, who shouted 'where is Nancy?' - Fox News
The husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Paul, was assaulted with a hammer early Friday inside his San Francisco home by an attacker identified by police as David DePape, who a law enforcement source tells Fox News was shouting "Where is Nancy, where is Nancy?"
San Francisco Police Chief William Scott said DePape, 42, is now facing charges of attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, burglary and several other additional felonies stemming from the incident after 2 a.m.
Scott said police responded to a wellbeing check and found DePape and Paul Pelosi, 82, struggling over a hammer. He said officers then witnessed DePape pull the hammer away from Pelosi and "violently assaulted" him.
Officers then immediately tackled DePape, disarmed him and took him into custody, while requesting emergency backup and rendering medical aid at the scene. The motive for the attack remains under investigation. (Read more)

2. ‘Why You Have To Have Police’: Watters Says America’s ‘Crime Wave’ Finally Made Its Way To Pelosi’s House - Daily Caller
A surge in violent crime in America finally reached the house of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Fox News host Jesse Watters said Friday while discussing the early-morning attack on her husband, Paul.
“It’s happening to everybody. Doesn’t matter who you are. You gotta watch out. I hope he’s better. I hope he recovers quickly because getting hit in the head with a hammer does not sound fun at all,” Jesse Watters said. “He’s had a rough year. He almost died in a car accident and now he almost died from a hammer attack. I wish him and his wife well and a speedy recovery.”
San Francisco Police Chief William Scott identified the alleged perpetrator as 42-year-old David DePape, who has been charged with crimes including attempted homicide, assault with deadly weapon and elder abuse, USA Today reported. Paul Pelosi suffered a fractured skull in the attack, during which DePape allegedly demanded to know where Nancy Pelosi was, Fox News reported.
“The guy that is the alleged attacker sounds like a homeless nudist. He was living in a storage locker and he was an illegal alien from Canada with a rap sheet in San Francisco, we believe,” Watters continued. “He should have been deported. But San Francisco is a sanctuary city. He’s wacked. I read his social media profile, the man is crazy, and everybody should have known that, so he’s mentally ill.” (Read more)

3. ‘Things That We Have Never Seen Before’: Pollsters Tell Hannity Black And Hispanic Voters Are Moving To GOP In Droves - Daily Caller
Two pollsters told Fox News host Sean Hannity Friday night that black and Hispanic voters are moving to the GOP droves, particularly in Pennsylvania and Georgia.
“We consistently see where the African American vote, about 20% or more, are going for Republican candidates,” Matt Towery, chairman of InsiderAdvantage, told Hannity when asked about Georgia and Pennsylvania, two states which could decide control of the Senate.
“When it comes to either Hispanic, Latino or what we call other, sometimes it’s 60-something percent for the Republican,” Towery continued. “These are things that we’ve never seen before. I’ve never seen Republican candidates getting 20% of the African American vote this close to an election. I certainly have never seen Hispanic, Latinos or other races trending Republican like I’m seeing in this particular year.” (Read more)

4. Five States to Vote on Abortion Rights This Election Day - Christianity Today
For decades, pro-life advocates argued that overturning Roe v. Wade would enable each state to determine its own abortion policy. Abortion measures will appear on five state ballots on Election Day this year, the most in US history.
But the country got its first glimpse at post-Roe abortion referendums months before November 8. Back in August, Kansas became the first state to vote on abortion rights, rejecting a ballot measure declaring the state constitution “does not require government funding of abortion and does not create or secure a right to abortion.”
Activists saw the outcome, fueled by record turnout from young women, as a sign of enthusiasm from pro-choice voters. Last week, Pew Research Forum released its latest polls, which show that Democratic voters are nearly twice as likely as Republicans to consider abortion a very important issue (55% to 29%).
Soon, voters in Michigan, California, Vermont, Montana, and Kentucky will also vote on the issue of abortion rights without a federal abortion law in place.
“My hope is that the Kansas amendment’s failure can serve as a reminder that the deliberate and thoughtful work of the pro-life movement must continue as we change one heart at a time, state by state,” Southern Baptist Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission president Brent Leatherwood said in August. 5. Millions of Americans were assigned ‘COVID-19 violation’ scores based on cellphone data collected during lockdowns - LifeSite News
A voter analytics firm harvested data from millions of Americans’ cellphones during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdowns and used the data to assign phone users a “COVID-19 decree violation” score and a “COVID-19 concern” score, according to a whitepaper released by PredictWise, the firm that harvested the data.
The data, derived from “nearly 2 billion GPS pings” stemming from “ground truth, real-time, ultra-granular location patterns,” according to PredictWise, was then used to target election-related messages to voters during the 2020 election season.
According to PredictWise, the firm “understood that there were potential pockets of voters to target with COVID-19 messaging and turned high-dimensional data covering over 100 million Americans into measures of adherence to COVID-19 restrictions during deep lockdown.”
The data was collected with political purposes in mind, PredictWise said:
It doesn’t take a data scientist to know that COVID-19 was going to play a major role in the 2020 election. This once in a lifetime pandemic took control of the political debate, our airways, and ultimately our lives.
Republican voters were specifically targeted based on the data that was collected. (Read more)

6. WHO: Tuberculosis cases rise for the first time in years - AP
GENEVA (AP) — The number of people infected with tuberculosis, including the kind resistant to drugs, rose globally for the first time in years, according to a report Thursday by the World Health Organization.
The U.N. health agency said more than 10 million people worldwide were sickened by tuberculosis in 2021, a 4.5% rise from the year before. About 1.6 million people died, it said. WHO said about 450,000 cases involved people infected with drug-resistant TB, 3% more than in 2020.
Dr. Mel Spigelman, president of the non-profit TB Alliance, said more than a decade of progress was lost when COVID-19 emerged in 2020.
“Despite gains in areas like preventative therapy, we are still behind in just about every pledge and goal regarding TB,” Spigelman said.
WHO also blamed COVID-19 for much of the rise in TB, saying the pandemic “continues to have a damaging impact on access to TB diagnosis and treatment.” It said progress made before 2019 has since “slowed, stalled or reversed.” (Read more)

7. America and Saudi Arabia are locked in a bitter battle over oil. The stakes are massive - CNN Business
The relationship between the United States and Saudi Arabia is one of the most important on the planet. And lately, it’s also been one of the most awkward.
Angry officials in Washington vowed “consequences” after Saudi-led (OPEC sharply cut oil production earlier this month, driving up pump prices just weeks before the midterm elections.
US lawmakers are threatening steps that were unthinkable not long ago, including banning weapons sales to Saudi Arabia and unleashing the Justice Department to file a lawsuit against the country and other OPEC members for collusion.
Riyadh has been caught off guard by the thirst for revenge from US politicians. And Saudi officials are hinting at payback – including dumping US debt – that could have huge ripple effects in financial markets and the real economy. (Read more)

8. Putin 'worried' about South Korea sending weapons to Ukraine - Washington Examiner
South Korea has a sovereign right to send weapons to Ukraine if it should so choose, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol maintained in the face of a new threat from Russia.
“This is a matter of our sovereignty,” the South Korean president told reporters Friday. “We are making efforts to have peaceful and sound relations with all countries in the world, including Russia.”
Yoon emphasized that the South Koreans “have not provided any lethal weapons” to Ukraine, although he touted his government's "humanitarian and peaceful support to Ukraine.” Yet Russian officials believe that Seoul “has decided" to open its arsenal for the international effort to arm Ukraine to repel the Russian invasion, according to the Kremlin.
“Right now, we know that the Republic of Korea has decided to supply weapons and arms to Ukraine,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday at the Valdai Discussion Club. "This is going to destroy our relations.” (Read more)

9. Germany says Russia threatens Europe after Putin predicts 'dangerous' decade - Jerusalem Post
Russia's invasion of Ukraine has plunged Europe into an era of insecurity, Germany said on Friday, a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin predicted a "dangerous" decade ahead.

10. Tropical storm slams into Philippines, death toll rises to 72 - AFP
By Saturday morning, the death toll had risen to 72, said the country's civil defence director, Rafaelito Alejandro.
Severe Tropical Storm Nalgae slammed into the Philippines on Saturday, after unleashing flash floods and landslides that left at least 72 people dead, officials said.
Nalgae pounded the archipelago nation's main island of Luzon with maximum winds of 95 kilometres (59 miles) an hour after making landfall on the sparsely populated Catanduanes island before dawn.
Heavy rains triggered by the approaching storm began Thursday in the southern Philippines, the state weather service said, inundating mostly rural areas on Mindanao island.
That was followed by landslides and flooding, with fast-moving, debris-laden waters sweeping away entire families in some areas.
At least 14 people were still missing, he added. (Read more)

A Total Lunar Eclipse Will Happen on Election Day
|
|
1st Election Day total lunar eclipse in US history
A total eclipse of the moon will fall on the upcoming Election Day in the United States, Tuesday, November 8, 2022. And folks on social media are already asking … how often does this happen? So, we looked back and learned that 2022 will feature the first Election Day total lunar eclipse in U.S. history. And we found it won’t happen again until November 8, 2394.
If you live in the U.S., or elsewhere in North America, you can see the full moon pass through Earth’s dark shadow in the wee hours before sunrise on November 8. Eclipse details here.
While watching, or while voting on November 8, you’ll know that an Election Day total lunar eclipse is rare indeed.
By law, a U.S. federal Election Day must take place in an even-numbered year. And it must be on “the Tuesday next after the first Monday in the month of November.” That means Election Day always falls within the November 2 to November 8 time frame (on the Tuesday immediately following the first Monday in November). High School Football Coach Who Was Fired for Praying Will Finally Be Back on the Field
|
|
The Washington state high school football coach who was fired for praying on the field will be reinstated next year. Court documents show that Coach Joe Kennedy will be restored to his position for the fall 2023 football season as an assistant coach at Bremerton High School, ABC reports. As CBN News has reported, the Supreme Court ruled six to three that the U.S. Constitution protects Kennedy's right to kneel and pray at the 50-yard-line after games, which he sometimes did with players who chose to participate.
In Kennedy vs. Bremerton School District, both sides argued they were protected by the First Amendment's freedom of speech and freedom of religion, but in the end, the high court sided with individual religious freedoms over government censorship. Justice Neil Gorsuch, writing for the majority side earlier this year, said, "Respect for religious expressions is indispensable to life in a free and diverse republic—whether those expressions take place in a sanctuary or on a field, and whether they manifest through spoken word or a bowed head."
"The First Amendment means that people of faith can be people of faith. They don't have to choose between the job they love and their faith to stay employed," said Coach Kennedy's attorney, Jeremy Dys, with First Liberty Institute. In 2015, the Bremerton School District fired Coach Kennedy for praying on the 50-yard line after football games. They were concerned that allowing those voluntary post-game prayers would come across as a state endorsement of his religion. But now that the Supreme Court has rejected that notion after a nearly seven-year legal battle, the district has agreed to put the football coach back onto the field. According to a joint stipulation filed in Washington state district court on Tuesday, Coach Kennedy must be reinstated "on or before March 15, 2023." (CBN) Read More

He Keeps me Singing
To listen to this classic hymn, CLICK HERE
Words and Music: Luther Bridgers
Scripture: He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Psalm 40:3
Lyrics:
There’s within my heart a melody
Jesus whispers sweet and low,
Fear not, I am with thee, peace, be still,
In all of life’s ebb and flow.
Refrain
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus,
Sweetest name I know,
Fills my every longing,
Keeps me singing as I go.
All my life was wrecked
By sin and strife,
Discord filled my heart with pain,
Jesus swept across the broken strings,
Stirred the slumbering chords again.
Refrain
Feasting on the riches of His grace,
Resting ’neath His sheltering wing,
Always looking on His smiling face,
That is why I shout and sing.
Refrain
Though sometimes He leads
Through waters deep,
Trials fall across the way,
Though sometimes the path
Seems rough and steep,
See His footprints all the way.
Refrain
Soon He’s coming back
To welcome me,
Far beyond the starry sky;
I shall wing my flight
To worlds unknown,
I shall reign with Him on high.
