Republicans to Investigate ‘Excessive’ FBI Raid of Pennsylvania Pro-Life Activist’s Home
|
|
Attorney General Merrick Garland has received a flurry of stern letters, including notice of an investigation, from Republican members of Congress in the days since the FBI’s Sept. 23 raid on the Pennsylvania home of pro-life activist Mark Houck.
“Not only did your office turn a local dispute into a national case, but the FBI reportedly executed the search warrant in as extreme a manner as one can imagine,” a Sept. 26 letter, sent individually by Sen. Josh Hawley said. “The FBI admitted in a statement that as many as 20 agents were present with their guns drawn.”
Houck was handcuffed in front of his wife and seven children during the 7 a.m. arrest and search of his home.
A Sept. 27 letter from 22 Republican House and Senate members asked why the FBI was deployed for state-level assault charges were dismissed by local authorities in Philadelphia.
“At the moment, it appears to be an extraordinary overreach for political ends,” the joint letter said. “We request an explanation for the excessive level of force used by the FBI in this case, and why the power of federal law enforcement was once again used against an American citizen in what should be a state and local matter.” (Epoch Times) Read more here.

- Mighty God, we thank You that our elected representatives are now standing up against injustice. Although there are few, we ask You to amplify the strength of their voices and the courage to push hard for justice, as necessary. May they not back down in the face of these tyrannical government agencies, in Jesus name. This wicked action has been perpetrated against many of our citizens by the DOJ / FBI and it finally took seven children traumatized, with guns in their faces, to finally get some response from Congress. May the pressure continue until we see righteous justice, in Jesus Holy Name! Amen.

Ginni Thomas Tells Jan. 6 Panel She’s Never Influenced Husband’s Jurisprudence, Calls Into Question ‘Impeach Clarence Thomas’
|
|
Ginni Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, told the House of Representatives committee investigating the U.S. Capitol breach that she has not influenced her husband’s judicial decisions.
Near the end of her opening statement to the panel on Sept. 29, Thomas said that “it is laughable for anyone who knows my husband to think I could influence his jurisprudence—the man is independent and stubborn, with strong character traits of independence and integrity.”
Thomas said in her opening statement that her “post-election” activities were “minimal.” She testified that she did not speak with her husband “about any of the legal challenges to the 2020 election, as I was not involved with those challenges in any way.” (Epoch Times)

- Praise You Jesus for such a strong example of strength and integrity in Ginni Thomas. We ask you to continue to surround her and Justice Thomas with Your presence and light. We ask You to continue to protect them by Your Holy Spirit and may they both, independently, continue to bring a righteous and positive tenor into their individual spheres of influence. We pray also, that this J6 committee continues to run into brick walls, leading them to be disbanded, in Jesus name.

FEMA, Coast Guard, American Red Cross and Army Corps of Engineers on Hurricane Ian relief
|
|
In a Saturday morning teleconference, officials from FEMA, the Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Coast Guard, the National Weather Service and the American Red Cross gave an update on recovery and relief efforts following the devastation from Hurricane Ian in Florida.
Brigadier General Brig. Gen. Daniel Hibner said the Army Corps was focused on infrastructure assessments and critical public facilities reported at the Lee County Water Distribution Center, in addition to establishing a generating stage base. "We're also aware of the upper Kissimmee overflows and inundation that's happening there. And we are responding. We're sending a team of experts to do an assessment of what is happening there," he added.
Annie Bink, who is the Associate Administrator of the Office of Response and Recovery, told reporters that the priority continues to be search and rescue operations by land and by sea. "We're actively collecting data on the ground as we speak from additional counties so we can continue to add those to a major disaster declaration to advance eligibility for assistance," she said, noting that employees are at shelters providing and registering people for individual assistance. She pointed out that nearly 240 generators are staged on the ground in the affected areas and that at least 145 health care facilities had been impacted by the hurricane.
U.S. Coast Guard Commander Rear Admiral Brendan McPherson said the Coast Guard had rescued more than 400 people since sunrise and that approximately 4,000 people have been rescued and assisted from entire unified command. While there were a few cases of people who were in urgent need of medical assistance, more people were "simply stranded."
The American Red Cross Senior Director of Integrated Field Communications, Anthony Tornetta, said the organization was providing meals to communities and had dozens of emergency response vehicles in Florida. "I can assure you that in the days and weeks and months ahead, the American Red Cross will continue to provide support for those impacted," he said.
Responding to a question about the number of dead, Bink said FEMA knew of 23 confirmed fatalities and reports of others. She said approximately 10,000 were sheltering right now.
The Atlantic hurricane season runs through Nov. 30. Although the Atlantic remains relatively quiet right now, Bink told Fox News Digital that the administration was "built for this."
"This is what we do. We have many levers at our disposal. We have a large cadre of reservists that are really the backbone of this agency that do the work in the field every day post-disaster. We also have a surge capacity force that was authorized by the secretary of DHS, which also frees up interagency volunteers to help support efforts," she replied. "We have many tools at our disposal disposal to also include local hires which bring competency of around the areas that we're serving. So, there's many tools at our disposal and we're ready. And, and this is what we do." (Fox News) Read more here.

4. Lapid: Maritime deal will weaken Lebanon's dependence on Iran - Israel National News
Prime Minister Yair Lapid addressed the progress on the maritime deal being negotiated with Lebanon during the weekly Cabinet meeting Sunday.
"Over the weekend, Israel and Lebanon received the American mediator's proposal for an agreement on a maritime line between the two countries. We are discussing the final details, so it is not yet possible to praise a done deal; however, as we have demanded from the start, the proposal safeguards Israel's full security-diplomatic interests, as well as our economic interests," Lapid said.

1. Ian arrives in North Carolina after bringing flooding, damage to South Carolina; death toll rises in Florida - CBS News
Ian weakened to a post-tropical storm Friday evening, the National Hurricane Center said, hours after making landfall in South Carolina as a Category 1 hurricane. The storm was moving inland over North Carolina overnight Friday, bringing the potential of flash flooding and gusty winds to that state.
The hurricane center said Ian made landfall near Georgetown, South Carolina, just after 2 p.m. Friday, with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph. Ian was expected to weaken Saturday and "dissipate early Sunday," the NHC reported.
The center of the storm was 60 miles southeast of Greensboro, North Carolina as of late Friday night, the NHC reported. It had maximum sustained winds of 50 mph, and was moving north at 15 mph.
In Florida, the scope of devastation from the storm was starting to become clear, as rescue missions continued and power and water outages persisted. New images on Friday showed extensive wreckage and disastrous flooding. (Read more)

2. Sanibel Island, Fort Myers severely damaged by Hurricane Ian in Lee County - ABC News
ABC News’ Mary Bruce spoke with Sanibel Mayor Holly Smith about the devastating impact of Hurricane Ian on the island of Sanibel.
Areas within Lee County, including Sanibel Island and Fort Myers, are facing major damage in the wake of Hurricane Ian. Across Florida, at least 52 people died in the storm, according to information compiled from local officials. Of those, about 35 were in Lee County, the Lee County Sheriff's Office said Saturday. At least two people died on Sanibel Island, with Mayor Holly Smith telling "ABC News Live Prime" Friday night there were four recorded fatalities. [CHPP note: the death toll is now much higher, as many as 46 deceased.]
"This is going to be a very long recovery process," Smith said. "But right now, [the plan is] getting everybody off that island and to safety. It is not habitable."
The barrier islands in the county were largely decimated, according to Lee County's Department of Public Safety. An ABC News team on the ground with international rescue group Project Dynamo on Friday called Sanibel "unrecognizable. . . We jumped right onto the beach near, around the middle of the island. Everything we saw was either destroyed or sustained damage," said the ABC News team, which includes Rachel DeLima, Timmy Truong and Victor Oquendo. (Read more)

3. DeSantis working with Elon Musk, Starlink to position satellites to provide internet service - Fox News
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said in a Saturday press conference that the state was working with SpaceX to position Starlink internet satellites for counties impacted by Hurricane Ian. "We're working with Elon Musk, and Starlink satellite," he explained. "So, they're positioning the Starlink satellites to provide good coverage in southwest Florida and other affected areas."
He then gestured to boxes of the satellites sitting to his left. "Here are the Starlinks that we're going to provide for Lee County," DeSantis said.
"So, they have satellites that beam down, but you can't just get it on your device without having things like that beaming it to the public or beaming it to whatever. So, those are going to be really for their use at the places that are offering the emergency response, so that they can be fully hooked up and can get online if they need to go," he told reporters. The governor said the state is expecting 120 additional large Starlink units to deploy to the region.
"And so, they've donated the costs associated with all the coverage. So, we want to thank SpaceX and thank Elon Musk for that," he noted.
"A large device: you can put it in different areas in the community that are having problems and they can get a 13-mile radius and they can support over 1,000 users at a given time. So, you're talking about over a hundred of these," DeSantis continued. (Read more)

4. Cubans protest in Havana for 2nd night over lack of power - ABC News
Groups of Cubans protested Friday night in the streets of Havana for a second night, decrying delays in fully restoring electricity three days after Hurricane Ian knocked out power across the island. A foreign monitoring group reported that Cuba's internet service shut down for the second time in two days, saying it appeared to be unrelated to problems from the storm but rather an attempt to keep information about the demonstrations from spreading.
Associated Press journalists saw people demonstrating in at least five spots in the city or on its outskirts, including the Barreras and La Gallega districts where residents blocked streets with burning tires and garbage.
On Thursday night, people protested at two points in the city's Cerro neighborhood. That area was mostly calm Friday with the power back on, although people were out on the important Villa Blanca Avenue chanting “We want light!” while banging pots with spoons. Police blocked access to the street, but there were no confrontations.
The country of 11 million people was plunged into darkness Tuesday night, a few hours after Ian roared over western Cuba and triggered problems in the power system that eventually cascaded over the whole island. Power was restored in some parts of the country the next day, but other areas were left without service, including in the capital.
Internet and cellphone service also were out Thursday. Internet service returned Friday morning, at least in some areas, but in the evening it was interrupted again, groups monitoring access to the internet reported. (Read more)

- Lord God, we do pray for the people of Cuba, who have been hit as hard as we have by the impact of Hurricane Ian. We ask for a move of grace to visit the hearts of their Communist authorities, who have no desire to help their people. We thank You, dear Lord, that we live in America -- a nation whose own government is doing all they can, 24/7, to rescue our own and to help them survive in the days ahead. Thank You, O Lord, for this great nation You have given us to live in, in Your name, amen and amen.
- "Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." (I Timothy 2:1,2)

5. Lankford, Rubio Advance Commission to Support Religious Freedom - Press Release; Office of Oklahoma Senator James Lankford
WASHINGTON, DC – The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), created by the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998, is a bipartisan commission that monitors and reports on religious freedom internationally. The commission’s authorization is currently set to expire September 30, 2022.
Less than two weeks before USCIRF’s authorization expires, the US House of Representatives passed Senator James Lankford (R-OK) and Senator Marco Rubio’s (R-FL) United States Commission on International Religious Freedom Reauthorization Act of 2022, which reauthorizes USCIRF through fiscal year 2024. The bill now heads to President Joe Biden’s desk to be signed into law. Senators Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Jim Risch (R-ID), Dick Durbin (D-IL), and Chris Coons (D-DE) joined Lankford and Rubio in introducing the bill.
“USCIRF does invaluable work to help our nation protect and promote the unalienable human right of religious freedom for all people of every faith around the world. I’m glad to see the House finally take up/pass my bill to reauthorize this commission,” said Lankford
“I’m grateful the House has voted to reauthorize USCIRF’s mission and reaffirm the importance of religious freedom everywhere. USCIRF does phenomenal work defending this sacred right around the globe, but its authorization will expire in just a matter of days. President Biden must sign our bill immediately,” said Rubio (Read more)

6. The FBI Is ‘Revoking’ Conservative Agents’ Security Clearances, GOP Lawmakers Allege - Daily Caller
The FBI is revoking the security clearances of conservative agents and retaliating against suspected whistleblowers, three House Republicans alleged in a Thursday letter.
Republicans in both chambers of Congress have alleged widespread politicized misconduct in the FBI, most notably by a Washington, D.C., agent who investigated Hunter Biden. That agent, Timothy Thibault, resigned in August rather than face an internal review. Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley, the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has said that whistleblowers have approached his office to report internal misconduct in the bureau’s investigations into former President Donald Trump.
The FBI is cracking down on suspected whistleblowers in response, Republican Reps. Jim Jordan of Ohio, Darrell Issa of California, and Mike Johnson of Louisiana alleged in a letter to FBI Executive Assistant Director Jennifer Leigh Moore. Moore signed “many” clearance revocation orders and “retaliated against at least one whistleblower,” the lawmakers claimed.
“Once a whistleblower makes a protected disclosure, an agency is prohibited from retaliating against the employee for that disclosure by taking or failing to take a personnel action,” the Republicans wrote. “Your efforts to interfere with FBI employees who seek to expose the Bureau’s misconduct by communicating directly with Congress cannot be condoned.” (Read more)

7. Wisconsin Republicans Sound Off About Raunchy Sex Ed Curriculum Exposed By Daily Caller- Daily Caller
Republican members of Congress from Wisconsin are expressing outrage after a report from the Daily Caller exposed a Wisconsin public school district that gave radical gender ideologues a role in designing a raunchy sex education curriculum for kindergarteners. The external committee that approved the curriculum includes a Planned Parenthood activist and a doctor who promotes the chemical castration of teenagers.
Th e Caller published the story Wednesday detailing the role the two activists played in adopting a curriculum for the Wauwatosa School District that discusses genitalia and sexual abuse with five-year-olds. Every Wisconsin Republican serving in Congress responded to the news, saying Democratic Gov. Tony Evers and the Department of Public Instruction must be held accountable. “The left is trying to force their radical agenda on innocent children and it must stop. Wauwatosa is betraying the trust that parents have placed in them to keep their children safe,” Sen. Ron Johnson told the Caller after reading the report.
“Remote learning has sent student test scores into free fall. But instead of demonstrating a relentless focus on getting kids back up to speed, the Wauwatosa School District seems to believe that precious time in the classroom is better spent on ‘gender identity’ than reading, writing, and math. This is unconscionable and Wisconsin parents should be outraged by this garbage. When Republicans take back the House, we will do everything in our power to empower parents and prioritize academic achievement,” Rep. Mike Gallagher told the Caller. (For more details, go here)

- We pray those who have instituted this curriculum will be held accountable. We pray protection on our children as they attend school. Give us schools that keep our children safe mentally. We need a complete overhaul in our school system!

8. Rep. Steve Scalise Slams Dem Candidate’s Tweet About 2017 Baseball Shooting - Daily Caller
Republican House Minority Whip Steve Scalise reacted harshly on Friday to a newly resurfaced 2017 tweet in which Democratic Wisconsin Senate candidate Mandela Barnes accused the congressman of “vot[ing] against self interest” when he expressed his continued opposition to gun control after narrowly surviving a mass shooting.
Scalise was nearly killed by James Hodgkinson, a left-wing domestic terrorist, while practicing for the 2017 Congressional Baseball Game. The Louisiana Republican suffered internal bleeding and several broken bones. Scalise did not change his views on gun control in the aftermath of the shooting, saying it “fortified” his support for the right to bear arms.
“Taking one for the team. I question how people vote against self interest but this is next level. He literally almost died on this hill,” Barnes wrote in a quote tweet of article detailing Scalise’s position. Scalise described Barnes’ reaction as “disgraceful” in a statement to Punchbowl News after the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported on the Democrat’s tweet in an article published Thursday. “It says a lot more about his lack of character to be in essence condoning political violence. All of us should be standing up against political violence,” Scalise said. “To say something like that, [Barnes] really needs to look in the mirror and reevaluate his lack of character.”
Barnes refused to apologize, telling Punchbowl that his “comments came from a place of frustration with politicians like [Republican Wisconsin Sen.] Ron Johnson who see gun violence happen everyday and turn their backs on solutions that would keep people safe.” “This is a very personal topic for me as someone who has experienced the pain of losing friends and loved ones to gun violence,” Barnes added.
Barnes, Wisconsin’s lieutenant governor, is polling around two points behind Johnson. Some in the party worry, however, that Barnes’ track record of far-left positions, including support for the Green New Deal and for abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), could sink him in a race that Democrats consider one of their best Senate pickup opportunities. (Read more)

|
- Father God, we ask that You move upon the heart of Mandela Barnes to repent of these statements. In 2017, Congressman Steve Scalise nearly lost his life on that playing field, when this crazed gunman tried to take his life. Nevertheless, Steve Scalise has stood strong in support of our Second Amendment rights, even so. We salute Steve Scalise, and we repent for these remarks made by Mandela Barnes.

9. Report: Arab diplomats urge new British PM to not move embassy to Jerusalem JNS.org
Arab ambassadors in London have sent a letter to newly minted UK Prime Minister Liz Truss urging her to scrap what they described as “an illegal and ill-judged” plan to move the British Embassy to Jerusalem, The Guardian reported on Friday.
According to the report, some Arab diplomats have warned that such a move could jeopardize negotiations on a free trade deal between the United Kingdom and the Gulf Cooperation Council which is slated to be completed this year.
While the report noted that numerous Arab nations were expected to oppose the prospective move, it emphasized that both the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, which two years ago normalized relations with Israel as part of the Abraham Accords, also endorsed the letter to Truss. (Read more)

10. US official: No sign of imminent use of nuclear weapons by Putin - Israel National News
US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said on Friday that Washington takes Russian President Vladimir Putin's nuclear threats seriously but does not presently see indications of the use of nuclear weapons by Russia.
"There is a risk, given all the loose talk and nuclear saber rattling by Putin, that he would consider this and we’ve been equally clear about what the consequences would be," Sullivan told reporters, but added, "We do not presently see indications about the imminent use of nuclear weapons."
Asked if the US would actively enter the war if Putin used nukes on Ukraine, Sullivan replied, "So, I have said before that we have had the opportunity to communicate directly to Russia a range of consequences...and the kinds of actions the United States would take."
Putin issued a thinly veiled nuclear threat in a recent speech in which Putin also announced his country's first wartime military mobilization since World War Two. (Read more)

FEMA head defends Lee County, Florida officials' Hurricane Ian prep:
Storm was 'very unpredictable'
|
|
While federal and state officials continue to respond to the damage from Hurricane Ian, FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell defended officials in Lee County, Florida, after a New York Times report made it seem that they had failed to properly respond to the storm which ravaged their area.
In an interview with "Fox News Sunday," Criswell noted that it was difficult to guess exactly where Ian was going to strike.
"This storm, it was really dynamic, and it was very unpredictable for a long period of time," Criswell said. "Just 72 hours before the storm made landfall, Lee County wasn't even in the hurricane path. It wasn't even in the predicted zone of where it was going to make impact, and it continued to move south day by day."
"As soon as the storm predictions were that it was going to impact Lee County, I know that local officials immediately put the right measures in place to make sure that they were warning citizens to get them out of harm's way," she continued.

‘The Lord is with us’:
Florida pastor shares update in the wake of Hurricane Ian's destruction
|
|
“The Lord is with us” and there are “many reasons to be filled with hope and even to rejoice,” says a pastor in Florida in an update after Hurricane Ian made landfall with winds of 150 mph, killing at least 32 people and causing catastrophic floods and life-threatening storm surge. Communicating on behalf of Pastor Tom Ascol, Hannah Ellis posted a message on his Facebook page Saturday morning, saying that cell service and power are down in the area and relief efforts will be ongoing for a long time as homes and businesses are rebuilt and restored. Many people have asked how they can help, she said, providing a link to where financial donations can be sent directly to the church to assist their efforts in the community.
At least 27 people were killed in the storm in Florida, and the number could grow, NBC News reported, adding that more than 1.3 million customers in the state remained without power three days after Hurricane Ian’s landfall Wednesday afternoon. “In the wake of such catastrophe it is easy to be disoriented by the traumatic experiences you have just lived through and the catastrophic loss that is evident everywhere,” wrote Pastor Tom Ascol of Grace Baptist Church in Cape Coral, Florida, in a Facebook post on Thursday. “But God’s people, those who have tasted and know that He is good, who have experienced His grace in the salvation found in His crucified, risen Son, our Lord — Jesus Christ, we have many reasons to be filled with hope and even to rejoice,” added Ascol, who ran for Southern Baptist Convention president in June.
Ascol said efforts were already underway to check on church members and help with relief and recovery efforts. “In and through it all I was reminded of the Lord’s mercies,” he continued, sharing that he and his wife were away on a prescheduled trip during the storm, but their children, grandchildren and church family endured the storm.“Very often these reminders came from the people with whom we were communicating. God kept babies safe. He kept first responders strong enough to fulfill their duties. He gave wisdom to our governor and local officials. He displayed His power over His created world in ways that are undeniable for those who have eyes to see. The greatest meteorological minds could not precisely predict the track of the storm, much less control it. Our God displayed that He, and He alone, is God.” (Christian Post) Read More Here.

The Old Rugged Cross

Words and Music: George Bennard
Scripture: The cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Galatians 6:14
Lyrics:
On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suffering and shame;
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.
Refrain
So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.
O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above
To bear it to dark Calvary.
Refrain
In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,
A wondrous beauty I see,
For ’twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
To pardon and sanctify me.
Refrain
To the old rugged cross I will ever be true;
Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then He’ll call me some day to my home far away,
Where His glory forever I’ll share.
Refrain
