Republicans Will Secure at Least 52 Senate Seats: Sen. Rick Scott
|
|
Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.), chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, said on Oct. 2 that the Republican Party will take back the Senate in November.
“My effort right now is on the hurricane relief for this hurricane, but absolutely I think we’re at 52 seats-plus,” Scott told NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “If you look at Biden’s numbers, they’re really bad. People have rejected the Biden agenda. We have great candidates. The Democrats have to defend what Biden has done.
“I think it will be a good November for Republicans, but we have to keep working hard every day.”
Also, during his interview with NBC, Scott was asked to weigh in on recent Republican legislation that would create a federal ban on abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. The legislation, unveiled by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Sept. 13, includes exceptions for rape, incest, and saving a woman’s life.
In response, Scott said he supports “reasonable” abortion restrictions, noting that there are “arguments to do it at the federal level.” (Epoch Times) Read more here.

- Father God, we thank You for this statement by Senator Rick Scott. We pray in agreement with his words. As we now draw near to Election Day in November, we ask that You would stir the hearts of Your people to not forget to vote, whether by absentee ballot now or at the polls on November 8th. We also thank You for the many believers who have now stepped forward to work at the polls on Election Day. May each one be infused with Your power and with Your strength as they work at the polls in these critical positions. Thank You, O Lord, for hearing our prayer, amen and amen.
- "Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him." (I John 5:14,15)

Supreme Court on Tuesday to debate alleged racial gerrymandering in Alabama redistricting plan

Supreme Court on Tuesday to debate alleged racial gerrymandering in Alabama redistricting plan
|
|
Will hear arguments on whether redistricting maps violate Voting Rights Act
|
|
The Supreme Court on Tuesday will debate whether the state of Alabama's congressional map illegally disadvantages Black voters.
Following the 2020 census, Alabama created a new redistricting map for its seven seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. A group of Alabama voters, NAACP and Greater Birmingham Ministries filed a lawsuit, claiming the new maps limited the influence of Black voters by placing people from "majority-Black counties … into majority-white Congressional districts in low enough numbers that Black voters have no electoral influence."
They argue the map should be redrawn so that Alabama has two majority-Black districts instead of just one, Congressional District 7 (CD 7).
Alabama is set to argue that should the lawsuit prevail, the state will be forced into an unconstitutional practice of prioritizing race in creating election rules — which is what plaintiffs have accused the state of doing.
The state adds that Alabama’s redistricting plan followed existing districting lines and attempted to make "race-neutral adjustments for small shifts in population over the last decade but otherwise retain existing district lines."
But plaintiffs say the demographics of the state mean Alabama needs to do more to give Black voters a chance to elect a Black representative.
"In the twentieth century, Black Alabamians have never elected a congressional representative in any district other than the packed majority-Black CD 7. And CD 7 has only been a majority-Black district since 1992," plaintiffs argue. "As a result, Black Alabamians have the opportunity to elect a candidate of choice in only 14% of the congressional delegation…despite making up over 27% of Alabama’s voting age population."
The issue before the court is whether Alabama violated Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, which prohibits voting practices or procedures that discriminate on the basis of race. The decision could help bring long-awaited clarity to how the courts should interpret Section 2 in state redistricting cases. (Fox News) Read more here.

- Father, we ask You to guide the Supreme Court to make a ruling that is just and noble according to the Constitution. We pray for grace to fill every person involved in this matter. As a nation of laws and honor, may there be a result that allows all parties to follow the law and honor one another, in Jesus name.

North Korea Fires Ballistic Missile Over Japan in Major Escalation
|
|
Tuesday’s launch of an intermediate range ballistic missile flew about 2,800 miles, the longest distance ever traveled by a North Korean weapon, according to officials in Tokyo and Seoul. That range suggested the missile could reach Guam, the tiny American territory in the Western Pacific that North Korea threatened to attack with an “enveloping fire” five years ago.
When North Korea tested a similar missile in 2017, President Donald J. Trump sent B-1B supersonic bombers and other warplanes close to North Korea, and called Mr. Kim a “Rocket Man” on “a suicide mission.” Mr. Kim responded with a test launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile that he said was capable of delivering a nuclear warhead to the continental United States.
North Korea appears to be following a similar playbook to the one it used in 2017, when Mr. Trump promised to unleash “fire and fury” against the isolated country and Mr. Kim detonated an underground nuclear bomb. Analysts and government officials in Tokyo, Seoul and Washington are now bracing for yet another nuclear test, but their response has been more muted than five years ago. - Father God, we ask that You would stand in the gap, causing Kim Jong-un, the leader of North Korea, to back down from releasing any more missiles in this region. We ask, too, that You would grant our officials, especially at the Pentagon, Your wisdom about how to respond to these threats. In Your Name, amen and amen.
- "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." (James 1:5)

1. Israel prepares to shut down for Yom Kippur as security forces remain on high alert - Times of Israel
Israel is preparing to shut down on Tuesday evening for Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement and the holiest day of the Jewish calendar, as security forces remain in a heightened state of preparedness amid a record number of terror alerts in the lead-up to the holiday.
The IDF will also impose a closure on the West Bank and Gaza, a standard practice over Jewish and Israeli holidays.
Security officials have received more than 80 warnings or intelligence tips about possible terror attacks as Jewish Israelis prepare to observe the fast day, according to Hebrew-language media reports. The number is higher than last year when two Palestinian security prisoners were on the run following a prison escape, and security forces were grappling with a spate of stabbing attacks. (Read more)

2. High Court rules government must respond to petition over Lebanon maritime deal - Times of Israel
The High Court of Justice ruled on Monday that the government must respond to a petition demanding that any maritime border deal with Lebanon come to a full vote in the Knesset.
The petition, filed by the right-wing Lavi organization for citizens’ rights, argues that as the current government is serving on an interim basis, after the Knesset dissolved in June, the deal must be cleared by parliament.
The petition demands that the government refrain from continuing negotiations, directly or indirectly with the Lebanese government and that it does not sign the deal without the Knesset’s approval. (Read more)

3. Israel, EU renew diplomatic-strategic dialogue after decade-long hiatus - Israel Hayom
"This is the forum that will allow us to advance economic ties between Israel and the EU and strengthen our fight to lower the cost of living in both Israel and Europe. This Council has not convened in over a decade – for the wrong reasons," Prime Minister Yair Lapid said.
The Prime Minister's Office released a statement saying the meeting will also advance several projects, including supporting Israeli companies and their collaboration in ventures with European funding; signing a data roaming agreement that will dramatically reduce communications costs; securing arrangements that will allow for the export of organic agricultural products to Europe; and adopting standards that will lower product prices.
The meeting was attended by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell and foreign ministers from other countries. Among those present were the Cypriot defense minister and the Irish minister for European affairs. (Read more)

5. In Elections Appeal to Israeli Arabs, PM Lapid Pledges to Boost Fight Against Crime - Algemeiner
With weeks left before Israel’s next round of elections, Prime Minister Yair Lapid is appealing to the country’s Arab minority by promising to fight a years-long crime wave that has bloodied their communities.
In a video released in the lead up to elections in November, Lapid described “the fight against crime in the Arab sector” as a main priority of his government, which would be intensified after elections. “We will make an effort that has never been made here, to invest in the personal security of the citizens of Israel — with an emphasis on Arab society,” said the premier.
He pledged to “invest the necessary resources” and “bring the best people” to tackle the core issues important to Arab society: “The education of your children; the creation of job opportunities, especially for youths; housing plans; and integration into public services.”

1. White House unveils artificial intelligence 'Bill of Rights' to shield users from algorithms - Washington Examiner
The White House published a list of guidelines for the artificial intelligence industry meant to protect users from abuses from algorithms maintained by companies and agencies.
The guidelines, identified as the "Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights," were released by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy on Tuesday and offer a list of five principles for ensuring users are protected from abuse empowered by the technology as it grows in prominence.
The bill of rights encourages designers to make sure that users are "protected from unsafe or ineffective" automated systems, to prohibit discriminatory use of algorithms, to build protections into products that will prevent "abusive data practices," to ensure that systems are transparent, and to allow users to "opt-out" in favor of a human alternative when appropriate. - Father, technology is having a massive impact on our culture and world right now. We ask You to grant creative avenues to overcome its potential overreach. This "bill of rights" brings the issue to the table for conversation, but I daresay it is more subjective than narrow in scope or well-defined. May we stay alert so there is not a more aggressive threat to our freedoms through this type of statement and technology.

2. Job openings plummet by more than a million in sign of slowdown - Washington Examiner
The number of job openings collapsed in August, a sign that the Federal Reserve's campaign to raise interest rates to slow commerce and arrest inflation may be taking hold.
Openings across all sectors decreased to 10.1 million in August, down from 11.239 million the month before, according to data released on Tuesday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The record number of job openings was notched in March and upwardly revised to 11.9 million.
The largest decreases in job openings were in healthcare and social assistance, other services, and retail trade.
Total hires and separations changed little from the month before. (Read more)

3. Elon Musk offers to buy Twitter at original price days before trial - CNBC News
Elon Musk has reversed course and is again proposing to buy Twitter for $54.20 a share, according to sources familiar with the matter. A deal could happen as soon as Friday, the sources added.
Twitter shares jumped as much as 15% on Tuesday after Bloomberg first reported on the Tesla CEO’s plans to go forth with his deal to acquire the company. The stock was halted after the report.
A few weeks after Musk agreed to the deal earlier this year, valuing Twitter at $44 billion, he quickly tried to back out, officially informing the company in July of his intentions to terminate the agreement. Twitter sued Musk to force him to go through with the purchase. The two sides were scheduled to go to trial in Delaware Chancery Court on Oct. 17. (Read more)

- Thank You Father, that You use everything for good… so we look forward to the good You will bring through this. The best measure of good would be first to see Elon Musk become a true son of the Living God and second would be for Twitter to honor the 1st Amendment to the Constitution in allowing freedom of speech so both sides of issues may be addressed. Amen.

4. Medical groups call on DOJ to investigate ‘threats’ after hospitals exposed for performing ‘gender-affirming’ surgeries - DML News
In September of last year, the National School Board Association sent a letter to Joe Biden complaining about the backlash from parents over vaccine and mask mandates, as well as pushback over critical race theory, and asked for the DOJ, the FBI and DHS to classify the pushback as “domestic terrorism and hate crimes.”
Now, after details have come to light about the number of hospitals performing life-altering “gender-confirming” surgeries on children, multiple top medical groups have sent another letter asking the Justice Department to investigate and shut down those who are rising up in opposition to the shocking procedures on children.
Leading health care organizations in a letter sent Monday to Attorney General Merrick Garland called on the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate recent threats of violence against physicians, hospitals and families that provide gender-affirming care to transgender youth. (Read more)

5. Biden befuddles with abortion tweet invoking comparisons to ‘Almighty:’ - Fox News
President Biden shocked social media users on Sunday with a tweet that seemed to invoke comparisons to the Almighty and Satan while arguing on behalf of codifying Roe v. Wade. Biden’s official Twitter account went from the otherworldly comparison to the "choice" between abortion on demand and restrictions at 15 weeks.
"My dad used to say, ‘Joey, don’t compare me to the Almighty. Compare me to the alternative.’ And here’s the deal: Democrats want to codify Roe. Republicans want a national ban on abortion. The choice is clear," the tweet read.
The line from Biden’s father was one of many stories that Biden invoked while on the campaign trail for the 2020 presidential election. However, Twitter users viewed it differently when used to defend abortion. (Read more)

7. Trump asks Supreme Court to intervene in Mar-a-Lago FBI case - Just The News
Former President Donald Trump has reportedly asked the Supreme Court to intervene in the ongoing legal dispute between him and the Department of Justice over his alleged mishandling of classified materials that led to the FBI raid on his Florida estate
Trump filed an emergency request with the court, seeking their intervention, according to a CNN report. Specifically, the former president wants the court to ensure that the court-appointed special master may review the more than 100 documents marked classified.
U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, whom Trump appointed, is currently overseeing the case. Thus far, she has appointed Raymond Dearie as special master to independently review the documents the FBI seized. Trump's legal team recommended Dearie and the DOJ concurred with the choice. She also barred the DOJ from continuing its investigation, though the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals overruled her in that decision. (Read more)

9. Pelosi on stock ban vote delay: 'I wish we would've had the Republicans to vote for it' - Just The News
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says the bill banning stock trading among lawmakers and senior government officials could have passed the Democrat-led House with some Republican votes.
The legislation, formally titled the Combatting Financial Conflicts of Interest in Government Act, won't see a vote before the Nov. 8 election takes place. Pelosi had said she would bring it to the floor in September, but the Democrat-led House left for recess on Friday after passing a continuing resolution to keep the federal government funded through Dec. 16.
"We didn't have the votes," she told Just the News at the Congressional Black Caucus Phoenix Awards gala on Saturday evening. "I wish we would've had the Republicans to vote for it because we're almost there, but there are a few of our members who just, Steny has said he doesn't want to vote for it, but I can only lose three votes." Father, we ask that she repents and steps away from power so she can do no further harm to the strength and integrity of our nation. 10. Uganda rejects United Nations resolution declaring abortion a ‘human right’ - LifeSite News
The African country of Uganda has publicly rejected the United Nations’ (UN) recent proclamation of abortion as a “human right.”
Uganda, as well as several other African countries, has voiced its opposition to the September 2 resolution passed by the United Nations titled, “International Cooperation on Access to Justice, Remedies and Assistance for Survivors of Sexual Violence,” which calls for each nation to ensure “access to safe abortion” for its citizens while defining abortion as a “human right.”
“We don’t promote or support abortion in Uganda,” Dr. Jesca Nsungwa, the Commissioner for Maternal and Child Health at Uganda’s Ministry of Health, said in an interview with Monitor News on Monday.
“We are pro-life and, therefore, we oppose that definition. There are many things that are promoted as a ‘human right,’ including homosexuality, but we do not support them given our laws, culture and morals,” added Nsungwa.
Despite pressure from the UN, abortion remains entirely illegal in Uganda except in circumstances when the mother’s life is in jeopardy.
In fact, abortion is explicitly condemned in Aritlce 22(2) of Uganda’s Constitution, which states: “No person has the right to terminate the life of an unborn child except as may be authorized by law.” (Read more)

We also ask You to watch over Uganda with Your love, provisions and resources, in Jesus name.

The End Is Not Yet
The Daily Jot, Bill Wilson, October 4, 2022
The headlines are full of quotes from people who are pounding the war drums. So much so that many Christians believe the world is now in apocalyptic times. They say that the seals of the four horses of the apocalypse have been released. Revelation 6 speaks of the Lamb of God opening seals that result in “a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow, and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.” Then a red horse that took peace from the earth so that man would kill one another. A black horse was released that caused great inflation. Then a pale horse to kill with sword, hunger and “with death.” Today we are experiencing very similar things, but there is much more to come.
Christ, in response to his disciples asking him about the timing of the end of the world, said in Matthew 24:4, “Take heed that no man deceive you.” This is the first warning of Christ about the events that would happen just prior to his return. And let us remember, Christ is speaking in Jerusalem about future Jerusalem and Israel during the time of Jacob’s Troubles, what many commonly refer to as the tribulation. In verse 6, he says, “And you shall hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.” He warns of nations and kingdoms rising against one another, famines, pestilences and earthquakes, “All these are the beginning of sorrows (v.8).” Read More

Mike Pompeo launches new campaign to combat what he says is ‘wokeness in the military’

Pompeo says ‘our military today is under assault from the radical left’ in new ad running in early 2024 nominating states
EXCLUSIVE: Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says he has a new mission — to battle what he terms is "a woke military."
Taking aim at political correctness in the nation’s armed forces, the West Point graduate and Army officer who served in Germany during the Cold War is launching a campaign to target what he calls "woke polices" by President Biden’s administration that are directed toward the military.
The campaign, which includes a new website and two ads released by CAVFUND, a non-profit group set up by Pompeo, was shared first with Fox News on Tuesday.
"American security, and the safety of our families, rests on the shoulders of our men and women in uniform. Their training must never be corrupted to advance left-wing political goals. This matters. A woke military is a weak military," Pompeo, who was elected to Congress before serving as CIA director and America’s top diplomat during former President Trump’s administration, argued in a statement.
And he also charged that "unfortunately, woke and weak are exactly the policies that President Biden is pushing on our troops. That's why we must do everything we can to stop the spread of wokeness throughout our armed forces."
The website — which can be found at TroopsSpeakOut.com — allows veterans and active-duty service members "to shine a light on Biden’s woke polices."
|
|
Pompeo, in his ad, says, "Our military today is under assault from the radical left," and "If you’re a young kid sitting in a foxhole, you don’t give a darn about political correctness. If we focus on the wrong priorities, then Americans will be a lot less safe. We’ll use the right pronouns but what we won’t have is the capacity to keep our country safe."
"I can assure you that there’s no Russian general, no Iranian leader, no Chinese Communist Party admiral, who’s spending one second thinking about gender or woke ideology or climate change," Pompeo argues. "They’re thinking about how to kill Americans and the fight is on. We have to walk away from this radical left ideology. We cannot let it penetrate our military." (Fox News) Read more here.

- Father God, we pray for our members of the military who took an oath to defend our great nation. May they be free to defend our Constitution and sovereignty that can only come from You. We ask that the deception of woke ideology be removed from their path and Lord give them the ability to do what they have been enlisted to do.

Photo shows 10,000 km debris tail caused
by DART asteroid smash
|
|
After being battered by a spacecraft, the asteroid Dimorphos has developed a long tail of debris. NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirect Test (DART) craft smashed into the small asteroid on 26 September, and an image from two days after the impact shows the resulting debris streaming away.
Dimorphos is just 170 metres across, and its new plume of dust and rocks measures about 10,000 kilometers long. It was photographed by astronomers using the Southern Astrophysical Research Telescope in Chile.
DART’s goal in slamming into Dimorphos was to shift the asteroid's orbit around the slightly larger asteroid Didymos. Observing the aftermath of the collision, particularly how much the orbit was shifted, will help researchers figure out how best to protect Earth from any potentially dangerous asteroids that we may encounter in the future, although Dimorphos and Didymos are both completely harmless.
The incredible physics of black holes Jeff Forshaw at New Scientist Live this October
Images taken immediately after the collision showed a huge cloud of dust surrounding Dimorphos, and in the following days much of the cloud stretched into a tail behind the asteroid. This happened via the same process that gives comets their tails, where the radiation from the sun pushes material into a stream behind the main body of the object. Read More

Dutch Missionary, Known As ‘God’s Smuggler’ For Sneaking Bibles Into Communist Countries, Dead At 94
|
|
Brother Andrew, a Dutch missionary known as “God’s Smuggler” for his work sneaking Bibles into communist countries during the Cold War, died at 94 this week.
The missionary, whose real name was Anne van der Bijl, spent a large portion of his life promoting the spread of Christianity into countries where it was unwelcome. He also founded Open Doors, a ministry devoted to helping persecuted Christians around the world.
“For more than 60 years, Open Doors’ founder — Brother Andrew — visited over 125 countries in service to the global church. It’s with mixed feelings that we share his greatest journey yet. Brother Andrew has gone home to be with the God he spent his life serving,” Open Doors posted on Tuesday. (Daily Caller)

- Lord, we praise You for the life of Brother Andrew. His passion to bring the Word of God to countries where the Gospel was not welcome was outstanding. Thank You for him, and we pray that You will raise up others who, like Brother Andrew, are willing to go where others would be afraid.
- “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.” (Psalm 23: 1-6)

Words: Author unknown
Music: Veni Emmanuel
Scripture: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call Him Emmanuel. Isaiah 7:14
Lyrics:
O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice!
Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.
O come, Thou Wisdom from on high,
Who orderest all things mightily;
To us the path of knowledge show,
And teach us in her ways to go.
Refrain
O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free
Thine own from Satan’s tyranny;
From depths of hell Thy people save,
And give them victory over the grave.
Refrain
O come, O come, great Lord of might,
Who to Thy tribes on Sinai’s height
In ancient times once gave the law
In cloud and majesty and awe.
Refrain
O come, Desire of nations, bind
In one the hearts of all mankind;
Bid Thou our sad divisions cease,
And be Thyself our King of Peace.
