Newly elected Speaker Mike Johnson declares House 'back in business,' vows action to support Israel
|
|
Johnson was sworn in after winning the unanimous vote
of the House Republican Conference
Newly elected Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., declared Wednesday that the House of Representatives was "back in business," and vowed his first legislative action would be in support of Israel as it faces multiple threats.
"I want to thank you all for the trust that you have instilled in me to lead us in this historic and unprecedented moment that we're in. The challenge before us is great, but the time for action is now, and I will not let you down," he told his Republican colleagues in his first address to the House after winning the race for speaker.
Johnson became the first House speaker elected from the state of Louisiana after winning a 220-209 vote with the support of the entire Republican conference (minus one absence) while Democrats unanimously supported House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., as expected.
Johnson was the fourth GOP nominee vying for the role after numerous failed attempts to unite Republicans following former Speaker Kevin McCarthy's ouster earlier this month.
"I want to say to the American people on behalf of all of us here: We hear you. We know the challenges you're facing. We know that there's alot going on in our country domestically and abroad, and we're ready to get to work again to solve those problems, and we will," Johnson said.
"Our mission here is to serve you well, to restore the people’s faith in this house, in this great and essential institution," he added.
Johnson vowed the "first bill" he would bring to the House floor as speaker would be "in support of our dear friend Israel."
"We are overdue in getting that done," he said. "We are going to show not only Israel, but the entire world that the barbarism of Hamas that we have all seen play out on our television screens is wretched and wrong, and we are going to stand for the good in the conflict."
He also promised to "immediately" form a bipartisan debt commission to address the nation's growing debt crisis, and called on the House to come together to address the "broken" U.S. southern border. (Fox News) Read more

- Lord God, Holy One, we praise You that Rep. Mike Johnson has now received all the votes necessary to serve as the new Speaker of the House of the Represntatives in our United States Congress. We thank You, too, for the agenda that Speaker Johnson has announced as the Republicans begin to tackle the many and weighty issues that lie before us. In Your Name, Holy One, we bind the plans of the enemy to sow chaos in the House, and ask for a move of Your Spirit throughout Congress, bringing unity, calm and peace. Amen.

Gaetz, who ousted McCarthy, weighs in on Republicans selecting Mike Johnson as newest House speaker nominee
|
|
Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., who led the effort to oust former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, has joined in a chorus of Republicans supporting the new House speaker nominee, Rep. Mike Johnson, R-La.
After Republicans spent most of Tuesday behind closed doors selecting Johnson as the new GOP speaker candidate, Gaetz praised him as a "good godly man who's going to advance Republicans." The Florida Republican also told a group of reporters that his colleague is the "best possible candidate" as the GOP looks to finally elect a speaker after McCarthy was voted out of the position three weeks ago.
One issue in particular that attracted conference members to Johnson was his support for single subject appropriations bills, or spending bills that fund one department or initiative at a time rather than a spending package that can force members to support some spending levels they would be uncomfortable with otherwise supporting, Gaetz said.
"He talks about single subject spending bills being the organizing principle in the House of Representatives. That is what I've been fighting for since January," Gaetz said of Johnson. "It is the reason Kevin McCarthy was vacated and despite the swamps, best efforts, we got a good godly man who's going to advance Republicans." (Fox News) Read more.

- Lord, we have prayed for a godly Representative to become the Speaker of the House. We thank You that Rep. In Your Name, amen and amen!
- "I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment." (1 Corinthians 1:10)

Americans Are Buying Huge Amounts of 5.56 Ammunition as Prices Surge 39 Percent
|
|
As the Israel–Hamas war continues, a number of Americans are purchasing more ammunition, data show.
Sales of 5.56 NATO caliber ammunition from popular brands surged 39 percent from 36 cents per round to 50 cents per round from Oct. 14 to Oct. 22, according to Ammo Prices Now, a tracking website. The 39-percent spike is much higher than in February and March 2022 after Russia invaded Ukraine, the data show.
Sales of .223 Remington ammunition have also shot up 42 percent over the past week or so, the data show.
But the prices for either type of ammunition were not as high as in late 2020 and early 2021, when 5.56 stood at around 79 cents per round. Around the same time, .223 Remington rounds neared $1 per round.
About a month ago, a top official with the North American Treaty Organization (NATO) warned of a drastic rise in ammunition prices, which would mean that higher defense spending doesn't automatically mean greater security. That warning came weeks before Hamas targeted Israel in a series of attacks earlier this month, killing hundreds of civilians and has prompted fears of a wider Middle East conflict.
"Prices for equipment and ammunition are shooting up. Right now, we are paying more and more for exactly the same," Dutch Admiral Rob Bauer, the chair of NATO's military committee, said last month during a meeting. "That means that we cannot make sure that the increased defense spending actually leads to more security." (The Epoch Times) Read more here.

IDF hits Gaza tunnels; ground forces conduct
raids ahead of assault
|
|
The IAF has destroyed 20 Hezbollah anti-tank missile cells since the start of the war.
|
|
The Israeli Air Force struck hundreds of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad targets in Gaza in recent hours, including tunnels with terrorists in them, while infantry and armored corps conducted raids on the ground in the enclave in preparation for a wider ground offensive, the Israeli military stated on Monday.
Dozens of operational command centers housing Hamas and PIJ operatives were also hit, according to Israel Defense Forces Spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari.
Strikes were also conducted on targets that posed a threat to forces in the area surrounding the Gaza Strip, including dozens of mortar and anti-tank missile launch sites, according to Hagari.
The raids into Gaza are being conducted by armored and infantry units against terror cells that were “preparing for our next stage,” while also seeking out information for hostages and the missing, Hagari said on Monday.
On Sunday, during a visit to the IAF’s Operations Command and Control Center, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said, “In terms of the operational aspects of maneuvering—at the end of the day, nothing will stop the IDF. It is a combination of two things: Our aerial capabilities and ground maneuvering. This should be our last maneuvering operation in Gaza, for the simple reason that afterwards there will be no more Hamas.”
Gallant added that “It may take a month, two or three, but at the end there will be no more Hamas. Prior to meeting our armed forces on the ground, the enemy [Hamas terrorists], will be faced with IAF strikes.” (JNS.org) Read more here.

- Lord, we thank You for standing faithfully with Israel as they seek to destroy the terrorists. We pray for protection for the hostages, and for the IDF troops. We declare Psalm 91 over these actions, and ask that all foreign influence that seeks to control Israel's response will cease. We ask for wisdom for their leadership and an awakening for the Israeli people to come to know Yeshua as Messiah.
- For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
You will not fear the terror of the night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.
A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
(Psalm 91: 3-7)

1. Hamas fires long-range rockets at Eilat, Haifa, as IDF strikes on Gaza continue - Times of Israel
Israeli fighter jets continued to pound the Gaza Strip in the early hours of Wednesday, targeting Hamas command centers and other assets and killing a senior commander in the Palestinian terror group, as the terror group fired long-range rockets toward both Haifa and Eilat later in the day.
Hamas boasted that it launched a long-range rocket from the Gaza Strip at Israel’s southernmost city of Eilat. The rocket did not set off sirens in Eilat or any other towns in the south, and the IDF later said that the projectile landed in an open area, causing no injuries or damage.
Earlier the terror group also claimed to fire a long-range R160 missile toward the Haifa area, setting off sirens in the northern towns of Daliyat al-Karmel and Kerem Maharal. The IDF said the projectile exploded in mid-air.

2. Barrage on Tel Aviv suburbs causes damage to buildings, at least 1 casualty - Israel Hayom
A heavy rocket was fired towards the center of the country resulting in damage to buildings due to Hamas rockets. One of the impacted areas was Rishon LeZion, a major city south of Tel Aviv, where a rocket apparently hit the top of a highrise. Two women sustained light injuries there.
Another location that was hit by the rockets was Kfar Sirkin, just southeast of Petach Tikva, where two people were reported to have suffered light wounds.
First responders said the casualty in Rishon LeZion was a 48-year-old woman who was hurt from shards of glass and a man who was hit with shrapnel. In Kfar Sirkin, a 13-year-old boy was hit by blast impact, while a woman was hurt while running for cover. (Read more)

3. Israel agrees to delay Gaza ground invasion at US request - World Israel News
“The Pentagon is scrambling to deploy nearly a dozen air-defense systems to the region, including for U.S. troops serving in Iraq, Syria, Kuwait, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates,” The Wall Street Journalreported on Wednesday.
U.S. officials convinced Israel to wait until those deployments are completed, which could be as soon as this week.
Israel is also taking into consideration diplomatic efforts to provide goods to civilians in Gaza and to free the hostages seized by Hamas during its Oct. 7 massacre, U.S. and Israeli officials told the Journal.
However, Washington’s central concern is protecting its troops from missile and rocket attacks as it fears terrorist groups will up their attacks on American forces once an Israeli ground invasion begins. (Read more)

4. Queen Rania of Jordan Says No Proof of Hamas Beheading Babies - Algemeiner
i24 News — Queen Rania of Jordan on Tuesday condemned the reaction of Western leaders to the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip amid Israel’s war against Hamas, which began the current conflict earlier this month when it invaded the Jewish state and massacred over 1,400 people, mostly civilians.
The queen called the West’s response to the war a “glaring double standard” during her interview with CNN.
“This is the first time in modern history that there is such human suffering and the world is not even calling for a ceasefire,” said Rania. “The silence is deafening — and to many in our region, it makes the Western world complicit.”
Answering a question about Jordan’s reaction to Hamas’ invasion of Israel on Oct. 7, the queen said that she was shocked and that her country condemns killing of any civilians. “It is the moral position of Jordan, and it is the position of Islam,” she added.
Rania stated that there was no evidence of children’s beheadings by Hamas reported earlier in the war. “Even your network,” the queen told the CNN host, “reported Israeli children found butchered in Israeli kibbutz, but when you read through the story, it hasn’t been independently verified.” (Read more)

The resolution also called for pauses in the violence to allow aid access. The United Arab Emirates voted against the resolution, while 10 members voted in favor and two abstained. (Read more)

1. Federal judge blocks Colorado from enforcing nation's first law banning abortion reversal treatments - Denver 7
A federal judge has blocked the state of Colorado from enforcing a new law that bans the use of abortion pill reversal treatments. U.S. District Court Judge Daniel D. Domenico granted the preliminary injunction in favor of Bella Health and Wellness late Saturday on the grounds that the law infringes upon the Englewood faith-based clinic’s rights to free speech and religion.
The Saturday night ruling came six months after Bella Health first sued the state hours after the ban was signed into law by Gov. Jared Polis.
SB23-190 outlaws “deceptive practices” by anti-abortion centers, which are known to market themselves as abortion clinics but don’t actually offer the procedure, and also states that healthcare workers who provide “medication abortion reversal treatments” are engaged in unprofessional conduct and could be disciplined for providing them unless regulators agreed they were a “generally accepted standard of practice.” (Read more)

2. Georgia-based evangelist Rick Gage sees 2,000 make commitments to Christ in Mississippi crusade - Christian Index
Nearly 1,400 people heeded evangelist Rick Gage’s appeal to commit their lives to Christ in a Mississippi crusade attended by some 17,000 people over four days. The evangelistic crusade concluded Wednesday night with an estimated 10,000 people packed shoulder to shoulder in an open-air amphitheater just outside of Jackson.
Gage, head of GO TELL Ministries in Duluth, Ga., said more than 2,000 people made decisions for Christ during the crusade. Of those, 1,354 made salvation decisions.
“We saw an incredible move of God throughout this whole campaign,” Gage said Thursday. “Anyone who says evangelistic outreach events don’t work anymore just needs to talk to the folks in central Mississippi.” In the days leading up the event, Gage presented the gospel in Mississippi prisons, seeing hundreds of inmates turn to Christ. 3. Federal Judge Strikes Down Two NYC Provisions for Gun Permit Issuance - Brietbart
Judge John P. Cronan struck down New York City gun controls that he found gave city officials unconstitutional discretion in the issuance of gun permits. Cronan struck down NYC’s “good moral character” and “good cause” provisions, concluding that they gave city officials a degree of leeway in judgment sufficient to provide them cover in denying permits for law-abiding citizens.
“In sum, having considered Defendants’ proffered historical materials, and applying the standard set in Bruen, the Court determines that the magnitude of discretion afforded to New York City licensing officials … empowering them to evaluate an applicant’s “good moral character” and “good cause” in deciding whether to permit that applicant to exercise his or her Second Amendment rights, is not constitutionally permissible under the Second and Fourteenth Amendments.”
Elsewhere, Cronan emphasized that allotting city officials the authority to judge “good moral character” and “good cause” in order to issue gun permits lacks “any grounding in our Nation’s historical tradition of firearm regulation.” (Read more)

4. US-led forces begin live-fire exercises in Iraq, Syria after 14 attacks on American bases left 24 injured - Fox News
United States-led coalition forces have started live-fire exercises at military bases in Iraq and Syria, after more than a dozen attacks on American troops over the last week left more than 20 soldiers injured.
The Combined Joint Task Force — Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) said on Wednesday that ground operational exercises "to validate weapons systems and maintain crew proficiency and readiness" would happen in or near the al-Hasakah region in Syria and the Khalidiyah region in Iraq.
The exercises come as U.S. troops positioned in the Middle East have been attacked 14 times — 11 times in Iraq and three times in Syria — between Oct. 17-24. The attacks include a mix of one-way drones and rockets, resulting in 24 people getting injured, according to Pentagon officials. (Read more)

5. White House Holds Wellness Meetings for Muslim, Arab, and Palestinian Aides - Brietbart
The White House senior staff reportedly held wellness meetings for aides who may be struggling with Israel’s defensive measures taken against the Hamas terror group.
The meetings, termed “listening sessions,” featured serious “discussions” about the war and its impact on White House aides, eight officials told Politico.
National security adviser Jake Sullivan conducted one virtual wellness check staff meeting on October 13. About 100 staffers attended, which Politico described as a review of the Biden administration’s position on the war while emphasizing that “not everyone agrees with it and has their own strong, personal feelings about the fighting.”
One official told Politico the wellness meetings focused on a pervasive “culture of fear” and a counteractive culture of support. Chief of Staff Jeff Zients also hosted a call with President Joe Biden’s cabinet secretaries “to ensure they are reaching out to their Muslim, Arab American and Palestinian staff along with Jewish staff,” one official told Politico. We pray for wisdom and discernment for our government in these hard, trying times when dealing with war, lives of citizens, families, and everybody these wars affect. We continue to pray for those who are hurting and suffering on both sides, because of the irresponsibility of our governments and our leadership. In Jesus' name, amen.

6. Trump takes witness stand in New York fraud case, fined $10,000 - Just The News
Former President Donald Trump took the witness stand in a New York civil fraud case to respond to claims he violated a gag order against discussing the court staff.
Judge Arthur Engoron imposed the gag order against Trump in early October after he previously posted an image of the court clerk, whom he referred to as "Schumer's girlfriend."
Trump on Wednesday responded to allegations that he had violated the gag order by calling Engoron a "very partisan judge with a person who is very partisan sitting alongside him, perhaps even more partisan than he is," The Hill reported. The judge imposed a $10,000 fine for violating the gag order. (Read more)

7. Americans believe government is too big, has too much power, poll finds - Just The News
Newly released polling data shows most American think the government is too big and has too much power. Gallup released the new survey data, which shows that 54% of surveyed Americans say government is "trying to do too many things that should be left to individuals and businesses." That number has stayed relatively the same since 2021.
Overall, only 43% of surveyed Americans say the government should be doing more.
"This critique of the government is similar to Americans’ views over the past two years; however, it differs from 2020, when 54% of Americans said they wanted the government to do more," Gallup said. "That reading, taken in the first year of the pandemic, is the only time in Gallup’s trend dating back to 1992 that a majority have wanted a more active government."
The issue is split along partisan lines, with 81% of Republicans saying the federal government is "too powerful." Meanwhile, the percentage of Democrats who say the government should do more has increased steadily since the 1990s. (Read more)
- Lord God, we pray over our country and over our government that our leaders would obey the Constitution. We were founded on freedom, rejecting tyranny. 9. Biden says he’s not concerned Johnson might overturn 2024 election results - The Hill
President Biden on Wednesday brushed off the possibility of newly elected Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) attempting to overturn the 2024 election results should Biden win reelection, following Johnson’s challenges to the 2020 election.
During a press conference with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, a reporter asked Biden about Johnson’s actions after the 2020 election, when he pushed false theories that the election was rigged and led a legal challenge against Biden’s victory.
Asked if he’s worried Johnson would try and invalidate the 2024 results, Biden said, “No.”
“Because he can’t. … Just like I was not worried that the last guy would be able to overturn the election,” Biden said. “They had about 60 lawsuits that went all the way to the Supreme Court, and every time they lost. I understand the Constitution.” (Read more)

Stupidocrisy: Joe’s Foolish Middle East Policy
The Daily Jot, Bill Wilson, October 25, 2023
Joe Biden and his rare October 19 television speech is a poster child for apocalyptic prophecy. It is this type of leadership that accelerates the world into the end times. Oh, the poor Palestinian people. Biden says they are used by the terrorists (that they elected) as human shields and those nasty Israelis that defend themselves are obviously going to take it out on the Palestinian citizens. That’s why we need to send the Palestinians billions of dollars more in humanitarian aid. Problem is, that humanitarian aid allows extra funding for the terrorists the Palestinian people elected to run Gaza as an Islamic caliphate. Biden says he wants to end this terrorism, but it was his actions in a large part that funded the terrorism.
Biden points the finger at Iran. Iran, he says, is backing Hamas and Hezbollah with funding and weapons. This is not new. Iran has been doing this for decades. But Joe Biden and Barack Obama have a great solution—give Iran billions of dollars hoping that Iran will all of a sudden have a change of mind about eliminating Israel from the face of the earth. Joe and his band of delusional Democrats may think that if they speak words of peace and harmony to the barbarians of Islam that they will change their ways and sing Kumbaya with their Jewish cousins. Ain’t gonna happen, Joe. Iran will continue to fund terrorism worldwide and especially against Israel. Read More

Prayer Alert for Israel & America
Generals International | Cindy Jacobs

|
Dear Prayer Warriors,
Mike and I flew to Israel two weeks before the recent barbarous attacks there. God gave me a word that believers in Israel needed to “Call 911”, as I saw dark clouds coming against the nation and warned of terrorist attacks. I told my husband that I was extremely agitated, and wrote a word on the plane that war was coming.
I do not believe one has to be a prophet to realize that we are in a precarious place in America as well. Of course, we are all grieving and praying for Israel and the innocent in Gaza. However, for the past week, I have been extremely agitated as to the threat of attacks by terrorists on our own soil. Read More Here

Full 'Hunter's Moon' Set to Grace the Autumn Night Sky in October 2023—All You Need to Know
|
|
By the light of the autumn full moon, hunters once readied their muskets, seeking game in preparation for the coming winter. This early tradition gave rise to the event known as the Hunter's Moon, occurring every fall around this time.
Here are some moon facts—and folklore—to help you enjoy this autumn spectacle to the fullest.
How the Hunter's Moon Got Its Name
The low-hanging Hunter's Moon once provided light for peoples of various traditional cultures, enabling them to spot game such as deer or elk that came to feed on scraps from the harvest in the fields. Foxes or coyotes also arrived to prey on these animals. With this convenient moonlight and plentiful game, men set out to hunt to supplement their stores with meat before winter fell—hence the name Hunter’s Moon.
How we use the name Hunter's Moon depends on certain factors, both calendrical and astronomical. Usually the Hunter's Moon is in October—like this year's is—but sometimes it's in November. Understanding why this is so can get complicated. Let us explain.

Rep. Greg Steube Shares Story About Praying with Speaker Mike Johnson on House Floor
|
|
Please stand by for some good news.
It’s this: The new speaker of the House is more than a committed conservative.
Louisiana Rep. Mike Johnson is also a dedicated Christian who is not afraid to show it.
In 2016, Johnson told the Louisiana Baptist Message, “I am a Christian, a husband, a father, a life-long conservative, constitutional law attorney and a small business owner in that order … and I think that order is important.”
Midday Wednesday, Johnson secured the speakership on a 220-209 vote, with all Republicans voting for him and all Democrats voting for House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.
“Johnson is arguably the most ideologically conservative person to serve as speaker since Newt Gingrich in the 1990s,” according to NBC News.
“Mike spent nearly 20 years successfully litigating high profile constitutional law cases in district and appellate courts nationwide and is widely recognized as a leading defender of the right to life, religious liberty, free speech, the Second Amendment and free market principles.” (The Western Journal)

- Abba, we REJOICE and lift PRAISE to You for answered prayer in hand-selecting Mike Johnson for such a time as this! May He lead with integrity and seek Your Will as he brings unity and boldly represents righteousness in the House. We declare in the name of Jesus that Congress and our nation will once again show reverence towards Almighty God and proclaim "In God We Trust", re-setting our government to reflect God's perfect plumb-line for America. In the mighty name of Yeshua-Amen
- "I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the plumb line" (Isaiah 28:17)
""If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him." (1 John 2:29)

"Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior. In Your Name."

Words: Johnson Oatman
Music: Charles Gabriel
Scripture: Let us go up to the mountain of the Lord. Micah 4:2
Lyrics:
I’m pressing on the upward way,
New heights I’m gaining every day;
Still praying as I’m onward bound,
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.
Refrain
Lord, lift me up and let me stand,
By faith, on Heaven’s table land,
A higher plane than I have found;
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.
My heart has no desire to stay
Where doubts arise and fears dismay;
Though some may dwell where those abound,
My prayer, my aim, is higher ground.
Refrain
I want to live above the world,
Though Satan’s darts at me are hurled;
For faith has caught the joyful sound,
The song of saints on higher ground.
Refrain
I want to scale the utmost height
And catch a gleam of glory bright;
But still I’ll pray till Heav’n I’ve found,
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.
Refrain
