80 San Quentin Inmates Get Baptized After Hundreds Find Freedom in Christ:
'Jesus Gets the Glory'
|
|
Hundreds of San Quentin prison inmates were "worshipping, praying, crying, and rejoicing" earlier this week after dozens of incarcerated men gave their lives to Jesus, a national prison ministry reports. God Behind Bars, which works to restore the lives of inmates by building their faith during incarceration and after their release, held an outreach event at the San Quentin Rehabilitation Center in San Quentin, CA. "Eighty incarcerated men baptized at San Quentin prison," the ministry shared online. "After sharing the gospel and hundreds getting saved, all these incarcerated men came up and got baptized! This was late in the evening, the prison lights were on. All you could hear was the sounds of hundreds worshipping, praying, crying, and rejoicing," the group added. "Everyone was happily soaked in mud as man after man came up to get baptized! Revival is happening."
Through strategic outreach programs, God Behind Bars works to reach the more than 2.3 million people in the prison system. "We create satellite campuses in prisons and our whole mission is to introduce inmates to Jesus," Isaac Holt, Director of Innovation for God Behind Bars, told CBN News. In 2021, the ministry released its PandoApp – a faith-based app that gives prisoners access to worship music and sermons on a tablet. Now more than 550,000 prisoners have been given the tablet. God Behind Bars CEO Jake Bodine told CBN News he started the organization in 2009 with the mission to "reach the least of these," and it has blossomed into a revival-type movement at correctional facilities across the country. "I was 20 years old and began to see so many of my friends getting arrested… I felt the Lord's voice in my heart say, 'Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?' I knew that my only response was 'Send me, I'll go.' From that small yes, God has done more than I could have ever imagined…72 prison church campuses have been launched all over the United States," Bodine recently shared on Instagram. Tens of Thousands of Port Workers Strike; Billions in Trade Expected to Be Impacted

Ports impacted by International Longshoremen’s Association strike manage between 35 and 49 percent of all U.S. imports and exports.

Thousands of union dock and maritime workers are officially on strike—a work stoppage that could significantly disrupt the U.S. economy.
The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA), the largest North American union representing 85,000 maritime employees, rejected a counteroffer from the U.S. Maritime Alliance (USMX).
According to USMX officials, the organization representing East and Gulf Coast longshore industry employers, proposed several wage-related offers.
“Our offer would increase wages by nearly 50 percent, triple employer contributions to employee retirement plans, strengthen our health care options, and retain the current language around automation and semi-automation,” the USMX said in a statement hours before the midnight deadline.
The port ownership group noted that it was hopeful that the counteroffers would resume collective bargaining on other outstanding issues to reach an agreement.
Though the submitted proposal matched some of the ILA leadership’s demands, the union rejected the offer.
In a Sept. 30 statement to the press, the union claimed that USMX “continues to block the path toward a settlement on a new Master Contract by refusing ILA’s demands for a fair and decent contract and seems intent on causing a strike at all ports from Maine to Texas.” (The Epoch Times) Read more here

Trump Visits Southern Georgia With Fuel and Aid, Gets Briefed on Helene Damage
|

Republican presidential nominee and former President Donald Trump visited Valdosta, Georgia, on Sept. 30 to assess damage caused by Hurricane Helene.
Arriving with supplies organized by North Carolina-based Samaritan’s Purse, he addressed a crowd of supporters after receiving a briefing from federal, state, and local officials and meeting with business owners.
“We’re here today to stand in complete solidarity with the people of Georgia and with all of those suffering in the terrible aftermath of Hurricane Helene,” he said. “Hurricane Helene turned out to be a big one, like just about the biggest that anyone’s seen.”
Trump said at his meeting with officials in Valdosta: “I spoke with all of the relief people, all of the people that do this for a living and do this at least to help, and they said they’ve never seen one this bad. Valdosta has been ravaged.”
He told the crowd that he came with large semi-trucks filled with relief aid, one tanker truck filled with gasoline, and a couple more on the way, and that he would be coordinating with Elon Musk to get Starlink internet up and running in the area while thousands continue to be without power.
He also said he plans to distribute fuel and supplies in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Virginia, Alabama, and Tennessee.
“Every part of these communities has been affected by this brutal storm, and countless Georgia cotton and pecan farmers,” he said. ”I love those farmers, and we’re going to take care of the farmers.” (The Epoch Times) Read more here.

Federal Government Tightens Asylum Restrictions at Border
|

The new rules, which amend the Biden administration’s June restrictions, allow officials to cut off asylum requests when they deem the border is overwhelmed.

The Biden administration said on Sept. 30 that it is making its asylum restrictions at the southern border stricter, as illegal immigration remains a source of scrutiny for the president’s policy agenda.
Under the president’s proclamation issued in June, the federal government could restrict asylum requests after more than 2,500 illegal immigrants had been apprehended at the border per day on average for seven consecutive days. That restriction would lift after the number dropped below 1,500 per day for a week.
The new restrictions prevent illegal immigrants from being able to request asylum whenever the Secretary of Homeland Security deems the southern border has become overwhelmed. The restriction will be lifted when the secretary “has made a factual determination that there have been 28 consecutive calendar days in which the 7-consecutive-calendar-day average of encounters is less than 1,500,” the new order states.
The administration is also now counting all children in that equation before previously only counting children from Mexico.
The changes take effect on Oct. 1.
While immigration advocates criticized the last set of asylum restrictions that President Joe Biden announced in June, his administration has credited them for lowering the number of illegal crossings at the southern border. (The Epoch Times) Read more here.

1. Iran says it fired dozens of missiles into Israel, where residents are warned to shelter in place - Associated Press
Iran says it fired dozens of missiles into Israel on Tuesday as the months-long fighting between Israel and Iran’s proxies in the region — Hezbollah and Hamas — escalated, threatening a wider regional conflict. Israel ordered residents to remain close to bomb shelters as air raid sirens sounded across the country.
A series of window-shaking explosions were heard in Tel Aviv and near Jerusalem, though it was not immediately clear whether the sounds were from missiles landing or being intercepted by Israeli defenses, or both.
Israel and the United States have warned there would be severe consequences in the event of an attack on Israel from Iran, which backs the militant group Hezbollah in Lebanon. Israeli army spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said the country’s air defense system was fully operational, detecting and intercepting threats. “However, the defense is not hermetic,” he said. 2. Many wounded, including 2 critically, in shooting attack at train station in Jaffa - The Times of Israel
Medics are responding to reports of a shooting with several casualties in Jaffa in south Tel Aviv.
The incident is reported on Jerusalem Street in the city next to a light rail train station.
Police say the shooting in Jaffa is a suspected terror attack. Medics say there are several casualties in the apparent attack.
The Magen David Adom ambulance service says it is treating several people who were in the shooting attack in Jaffa, including some who are unconscious.
Initial reports in Hebrew media indicate that there were at least two gunmen in the attack and that there are at least 10 wounded, including two in critical condition. (Read more)

3. Tim Walz said he went to China 'dozens' of times, now his campaign says its 'closer to 15' - Fox News
Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, said he traveled to China much less than he had initially highlighted in congressional hearings and media interviews. "I have been to China dozens of times," Walz said during a 2016 congressional hearing. "I've been there about 30 times," Walz told an agriculture-focused publication the same year.
However, a Harris-Walz campaign spokesperson recently acknowledged to Minnesota Public Radio that the number was "closer to 15 times." The revision comes amid growing scrutiny from GOP critics over Walz's potential ties to the People's Republic of China and its ruling Communist Party. Earlier this month, House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., sent a letter renewing pressure on the FBI to produce documents related to Chinese Communist Party (CCP) entities or officials that Walz has purportedly engaged with in the past. 4. California outlaws local voter ID rules - Politico
Local governments in California will be barred from establishing local laws that require residents present identification to vote in elections under a new law signed Sunday by Gov. Gavin Newsom.
The legislation — from state Sen. Dave Min, an Orange County Democrat running for Rep. Katie Porter’s open House seat — is a direct response to a controversial ballot measure approved this year by voters in Huntington Beach requiring people to show photo identification at the polls. It will take effect on Jan. 1.
California is one of 14 states that does not require voter ID at the polls, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. The Republican-led city, whose leaders often tussle with Sacramento Democrats, has maintained that its status as a charter city gives it home rule over elections administration. (Read more)

Atlanta Hawks player AJ Griffin announced he was quitting the NBA this year, only two years after being drafted. Now, the 21-year-old explains why he suddenly quit the pros: He’s quitting to follow Jesus.

But just as he prepared to play for the Houston Rockets this season, he announced his retirement. Fox News reported that Griffin has told fans in a YouTube video that he is putting his faith in Jesus ahead of basketball.
“I gave up basketball to follow Jesus,” the now-former player said. “And I know that in a lot of people’s eyes, that seems like, it seems like a loss in the world’s eyes. But I just want to let you guys know that I’m super excited because I truly get to serve God, you know, with my full Yes, and I feel like letting go of basketball is allowing me to, you know, go into full-time ministry and truly serving the Lord with all my heart — with all my time too, as well. Abon’go Malik Obama believes his half-brother former President Barack Obama is “still running the country” — and would have “a big role to play” if Vice President Kamala Harris wins the 2024 election.

The Burden of Habakkuk

The world is in disarray. People everywhere are on edge. The slightest of disagreement quickly turns to acrimony and bitterness. We see families torn apart over politics and opinions on government. A ruthless spiritual cloud covers the earth and manifests in wars and rumors of wars. Innocents are killed in the womb or trafficked for pleasure and profit. Evil attacks at will and when the victims fight back, many side with the evil and say “you’ve gone too far.” The courts are unjust, using laws as weapons against any who disagree with certain political philosophies. Mankind looks to governments for protection and salvation. These are days like those seen in the vision called the Burden of Habakkuk.
Habakkuk 1-4 says, “This is the burden that Habakkuk the prophet received in a vision: How long, O LORD, must I call for help but You do not hear, or cry out to You, “Violence!” but You do not save? Why do You make me see iniquity? Why do You tolerate wrongdoing? Destruction and violence are before me. Strife is ongoing, and conflict abounds. Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never goes forth. For the wicked hem in the righteous, so that justice is perverted.” The LORD replied in verse 5, in part: “Look at the nations and observe—be utterly astounded! For I am doing a work in your days that you would never believe even if someone told you.” The Lord answers that He is raising up the Chaldeans, a dreaded, ruthless, people whose god is their own strength. The US National Security Council (NSC) said Israel’s “limited operations” to destroy Hezbollah's infrastructure in Lebanon were in line with its right to defend itself.
However, the NSC warned that expansion of the operation was a risk and that a diplomatic solution was the only way to achieve lasting stability.
"This is in line with Israel’s right to defend its citizens and safely return civilians to their homes. We support Israel’s right to defend itself against Hezbollah and all Iranian-backed terror groups. A Russian fighter jet flew close to a North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) near the coast of Alaska, the command said on Monday.
A NORAD aircraft intercepted the Russian military aircraft in a “safe and disciplined” manner near the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) on Sept. 23, NORAD said.
“The conduct of one Russian Su-35 was unsafe, unprofessional, and endangered all—not what you’d see in a professional air force,” Gen. Gregory Guillot, commander of NORAD, said in a statement.
A 15-second video posted by NORAD on social media on Monday shows a military jet flying several feet away from the NORAD aircraft, banking to the right and left.
In all, four Russian military planes were detected and tracked off the coast of Alaska, NORAD said last week. They were spotted only days after 130 U.S. troops were deployed to a remote Alaska island with rocket launchers amid a spike in Russian activity off the western United States, officials said. Why space archaeologists are finding more Mayan ruins than ever before (exclusive)

Satellites are helping scientists spot more ancient Mayan ruins than ever before, which is no small feat considering how thick the forest is in the indigenous group's ancestral lands.
"Archeologists have mapped more Mayan sites, buildings and features in the past 10 years than we had in the past — preceding — 150 years," Brett Houk, an archaeology professor at Texas Tech University, told attendees at a NASA-led space archaeology conference Sept. 18 to which Space.com received an exclusive invite.
Archaeologists are finding these ruins faster due to better satellite technology. Using a pulsed laser technique called lidar, or light detection and ranging, satellites can peer through the dense canopy surrounding typical Mayan sites, Houk explained at the two-day livestreamed NASA and Archaeology From Space symposium.
The Maya are indigenous peoples whose ancestral lands include modern-day Mexico, Guatemala and northern Belize, according to Britannica. Prior to the 16th century, when the Spanish invaded the area, the Maya were the dominant regional group.
