Russia unleashes biggest attacks in Ukraine in months
|
|
Russia retaliated Monday for an attack on a critical bridge by unleashing its most widespread strikes against Ukraine in months, a lethal barrage that smashed civilian targets, knocked out power and water, shattered buildings and killed at least 14 people.
Ukraine’s Emergency Service said nearly 100 people were wounded in the morning rush hour attacks that Russia launched from the air, sea and land against at least 14 regions, spanning from Lviv in the west to Kharkiv in the east. Many of the attacks occurred far from the war’s front lines.
Though Russia said missiles targeted military and energy facilities, some struck civilian areas while people were heading to work and school. One hit a playground in downtown Kyiv and another struck a university. (AP) Read more here.

Four regions had no electricity following the attacks - Lviv, Poltava, Sumy and Ternopil - the electricity supply had been partially disrupted in other parts of the country as well.

World leaders condemned Russian missile strikes across Ukraine on Monday which killed at least 11 people and wounded more than 60 others.
The German embassy in Kyiv was hit by the airstrikes, German media outlet Bild reported. However, the building has not been in use since the war broke out, the foreign ministry said.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he was "deeply shocked" by Russia's most widespread air strikes since the start of the Ukraine war on Monday, a UN spokesman said. "This constitutes another unacceptable escalation of the war and, as always, civilians are paying the highest price," UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a statement.
“Shocking and deadly attacks in cities across Ukraine, including in the capital. People on their way to work, parents taking their children to school. There is no excuse for this violence. Stop!” Humanitarian Coordinator of OCHA Ukraine, Denise Brown, said in a statement endorsed by the UN.
British Prime Minister Lizz Truss condemned the appalling attacks on civilian areas in Kyiv and elsewhere after speaking with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky over the phone. Truss stated that the attacks are a clear sign of Putin's desperation. "Ukrainians are succeeding," the Prime Minister said in a tweet. "And Britain will stand right behind them as we continue to provide vital military aid in Ukraine's fight for freedom."
US President Joe Biden "strongly condemns Russia's missile strikes across Ukraine," according to a statement given on Monday. "Attacks killed and injured civilians and destroyed targets with no military purpose, we will continue to impose costs on Russia for its aggression." (Jerusalem Post) Read more here.

Former Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard announced Tuesday her departure from the Democratic Party.
Gabbard said Twitter video that the Democratic Party is controlled by an “elitist cabal of warmongers” promoting division and “anti-white wokeism.”
“I can no longer remain in today’s Democratic Party that’s under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers who are driven by cowardly woke-ness, who divide us by racializing every issue and stoke anti-white racism, actively work to undermine our God-given freedoms that enshrined in our Constitution, who are hostile towards people of faith and spirituality.”
Gabbard criticized the party’s previous push to defund the police and its handling of the U.S.-Mexico border while accusing it of veering the nation “closer to nuclear war.”
“I believe in a government of the people, by the people and for the people,” she said. “Unfortunately the Democratic Party does not. Instead it stands for a government that is of, by and for the powerful elite. Now I’m calling on my fellow commonsense, independent minded Democrats to join me in leaving the Democratic Party. 1. Manhunt continues for killer of IDF soldier Ido Baruch - Jerusalem Post
A soldier was killed in a drive-by shooting near the Shavei Shomron settlement in the northern West Bank, the IDF said Tuesday afternoon.
Twenty-one-year-old St.-Sgt. Ido Baruch, who served in the elite Sayeret Givati unit, was initially described as being in moderate condition with gunshot wounds to the upper body, but his condition deteriorated en route to Meir Medical Center in Kfar Saba.
Video reportedly from the scene showed at least one attacker fleeing in a black car toward the Palestinian village of Deir Sharaf. The Lions’ Den militant group from the nearby city of Nablus reportedly took responsibility for the attack. (Read more)

2. Historic surrender’: Lebanon deal marks first time Israel cedes territory without support of Knesset - World Israel News
In an announcement Tuesday morning, Prime Minister Yair said Israel and Lebanon had settled a “historic” deal that will “inject billions into Israel’s economy” and resolve a long-running maritime border dispute.
He said that the final draft of the U.S.-brokered agreement met Israeli demands.
Defense Minister Benny Gantz issued a statement Tuesday afternoon, saying, “We have not compromised and will not compromise on a single ‘millimeter’ that is critical to our security. The agreement is progressing despite threats by Hezbollah, which attempted to destroy the process.”
When Lapid announced the original agreement last week, Opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu and Texas Senator Ted Cruz, among others, objected, saying the prime minister was caving to the demands of the Lebanon-based, Iran-funded Hezbollah terror organization. (Read more)

3. Supreme court to state: Give a reason for not filing order against passing Lebanon deal - Israel National News
Israel Supreme Court judge David Mintz has ruled that the state has until Wednesday at 10:00 AM to answer the appeals filed on Tuesday by the Kohelet Forum and Lavi organization, which requested interim orders against the ratification process of the maritime border deal with Lebanon, this under the allegation that the deal was made "without the proper authority" and "during an election cycle."
The Kohelet Forum's appeal states: "In light of the official announcement that the agreement will be brought for government ratification tomorrow, and because of the fact that Prime Minister Lapid announced that he will not pass the agreement through a public referendum as specified by the basic law, there is an urgent need to submit an immediate interim order to prevent constitutional error and major damage. Until a decision regarding the interim order is made, representatives of the forum have requested a temporary order, since, according to them, the prime minister and attorney general have announced their intentions to violate the law as early as tomorrow."
The Lavi organization, which also appealed against the government, claims that "Approval or ratification of the agreement with Lebanon, without the Knesset's approval, would be illegal, due to the government being an interim government." (Read more)

4. Israel to Grant Entry to People with Israeli Spouses, as Russians Flee Draft - Algemeiner
i24 News – Israel’s Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked ordered the Population and Immigration Authority to grant entry to couples into the Jewish state even if only one spouse holds Israeli citizenship, Israeli media reported Tuesday.
According to the new directive, Russian partners will be admitted into Israel even if they are not registered as married to an Israeli in the country, as long as they can prove that their marriage is official.
The move will effectively allow couples fleeing Russia’s recent call for mobilization to come to Israel without having to deal with months of administrative hurdles.
Following a Haaretz report on the deportation of the Russian wife and son of an Israeli passport holder, the new guidelines state that when a married couple arrives at Israel’s border without being registered as spouses, they must show documents to Nativ, the aliyah organization responsible for Jews from the former Soviet Union. 5. Jerusalem churches on edge over possible UK embassy move to capital - Times of Israel
Jerusalem church leaders on Monday expressed their “grave concern” about Britain potentially moving their embassy in Israel to the contested and sacred city.
Last month, British Prime Minister Liz Truss told her Israeli counterpart Yair Lapid “about her review of the current location of the British embassy in Israel,” according to her office.
The announcement raised the prospect of London following in Washington’s steps under former US president Donald Trump, who in 2018 relocated the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. (Read more)

Former President Donald Trump slammed Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) on Monday for funding pro-impeachment Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s (R-AK) reelection bid against challenger Kelly Tshibaka with $9 million instead of other swing state candidates, like Republican Blake Masters in Arizona.
“Kelly Tshibaka is doing very well in Alaska, probably leading horrendously bad Senator Lisa Murkowski, a Republican (barely!),” Trump stated in a press release. “The Democrat has no chance, and yet the Old Broken Crow, Mitchell McConnell, is authorizing $9 Million Dollars to be spent in order to beat a great Republican, Kelly, instead of $9 Million Dollars that could be used for Blake Masters, and other Republicans, that with this money would beat their Democrat opponent. Isn’t it ironic?”

The Chinese Communist Party’s newspaper People’s Daily on Monday told citizens to “boost their confidence” and be “patient” with China’s brutal coronavirus lockdowns as the Communist Party Congress (CPC) begins next weekend.
Chinese coronavirus cases are surging despite China’s draconian control measures, a potential source of embarrassment for dictator Xi Jinping as he seeks an unprecedented third term in power at the CPC.
The People’s Daily insisted “prevention and control guidelines are effective against the Omicron variant,” despite all evidence to the contrary. “Confidence is more important than gold in the fight against the epidemic,” the Communist paper proclaimed while admitting some of the more heavy-handed measures might have gone too far. 3. Kamala Harris slams Republicans over migrant busing, blames Trump for border crisis - Washington Examiner
Vice President Kamala Harris condemned Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) Monday night for dropping busloads of immigrants off outside her residence at the Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C., over the past month.
During a rare late-night appearance on the talk show Late Night With Seth Meyers, Harris was asked about the busing situation after Abbott bused two other loads of immigrants to Harris's residence last week.
“I don’t think that, you know, playing games with people’s lives is the solution to this problem. But based on the record amount of arrests at the border, it is a problem,” Meyers said. “I think we look to our leaders at times like these. What is the path forward?”
Harris said Abbott's response was a "dereliction of duty" and called on Abbott to help find a solution to the illegal crossings instead of dropping immigrants outside of her door. Harris also blamed the administration of former President Donald Trump for the crisis at the border, claiming the immigration system under Trump was broken. (Read more)

4. Planned Parenthood criticized for cartoon on YouTube promoting puberty blockers to children - Fox News
Planned Parenthood took some flak on social media last week for promoting a cartoon that encouraged children to take hormone blockers if they’re feeling confused about their gender.
The video was posted on the group’s YouTube channel earlier this year but received renewed attention after the group Inside The Classroom reposted it on Twitter last week.
The video tells viewers that feeling confused about their gender identity is perfectly natural, noting that some people may need hormone replacement therapy or surgeries to help them match up to their gender identity or "how they feel inside about themselves." (Read more)

5. U.S. Supreme Court rebuffs fetal personhood appeal - Reuters
The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to decide whether fetuses are entitled to constitutional rights in light of its June ruling overturning the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that had legalized abortion nationwide, steering clear for now of another front in America's culture wars.
The justices turned away an appeal by a Catholic group and two women of a lower court's ruling against their challenge to a 2019 Rhode Island law that codified the right to abortion in line with the Roe precedent. The two women, pregnant at the time when the case was filed, sued on behalf of their fetuses and later gave birth. The Rhode Island Supreme Court decided that fetuses lacked the proper legal standing to bring the suit.
"We're satisfied that the Supreme Court declined to hear this frivolous appeal. Governor McKee believes that we should be expanding access to reproductive healthcare for women," spokesperson Matt Sheaff said in a statement, adding that the governor "is committed to using his veto pen to block any legislation that would take our state backwards." 6. WSJ releases major findings on government officials’ stock investments - DML News
Thousands of officials across the government’s executive branch reported owning or trading stocks that stood to rise or fall with decisions their agencies made, a Wall Street Journal investigation has found.
More than 2,600 officials at agencies from the Commerce Department to the Treasury Department, during both Republican and Democratic administrations, disclosed stock investments in companies while those same companies were lobbying their agencies for favorable policies. That amounts to more than one in five senior federal employees across 50 federal agencies reviewed by the Journal.
A top official at the Environmental Protection Agency reported purchases of oil and gas stocks. The Food and Drug Administration improperly let an official own dozens of food and drug stocks on its no-buy list. A Defense Department official bought stock in a defense company five times before it won new business from the Pentagon. (Read more)

7. Service members sound alarm against 'extremely woke' military - Fox News
While President Biden's Secretary of the Army has defended its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs this week as "important," several current and former members of the U.S. military, who have put their lives on the line to ensure America's security and defend its freedoms, are sounding the alarm over what they call a culture putting "wokeness" before training and combat effectiveness.
Those service members, some of whom served with Special Operations Forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, are blaming that culture for its recruiting challenges, which have risen to a level unseen since it was transitioned to an all-volunteer force.
"The military is extremely woke," one service member told Fox News Digitial recently. "I do perceive the Army leadership as woke, and probably the lower enlisted (they have been indoctrinated in school)," another service member said. "Equity-diversity is another way to divide and control the masses. It does nothing for the warfighter." (Read more)

8. Biden’s Latest Diplomatic Hire Worked with CCP Front Groups - Free Beacon
President Biden’s latest State Department hire, who once urged Americans to "embrace China," has worked with two prominent Chinese Communist Party front groups to foster ties between Washington and Beijing.
Biden tapped Nina Hachigian to serve as the State Department’s special representative for subnational diplomacy. The newly created position is aimed in part at countering China’s growing diplomatic influence. But Hachigian has worked in recent years with Chinese organizations the Biden administration has said are influence organs for the Chinese Communist Party.
As deputy mayor of Los Angeles, Hachigian met with the president of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, a major CCP influence group, to discuss "exchanges and cooperation" between the United States and China. At the Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank, Hachigian was part of a delegation with officials from the CCP-backed China–U.S. Exchange Foundation that proposed "exchanges of military personnel" between the American military and People’s Liberation Army to strengthen the U.S.-China relationship. She also collaborated at the Center for American Progress with an official from the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, a government think tank overseen by China’s main intelligence agency. Kill And Confront The Extremist Movement

One thing for certain: Anything a liberal politician accuses others of being or doing, that politician is judging from the content of his or her own heart. In the race for US Senate in Ohio, Democratic Congressman Tim Ryan is taking on Republican upstart J.D. Vance. On September 13, Ryan told MSNBC’s Morning Joe, “We’ve got to kill and confront that movement, but working with normal mainstream Republicans, that’s going to be really, really important. I’m saying exhausted majority, Democrats, Republicans, Independents against the extremists, leading an era of reform around reconciliation so we can heal this country and move into the future.” Apparently, Ryan wants to kill and confront those who resist his ideas of reform.
In Monday’s debate with Vance, Ryan once again labeled the Republican movement “extremists” and included Vance in his “kill and confront.” When asked about his September comments and if he wanted to clarify them, Ryan responded, “Kill and confront the extremist movement of which J.D. Vance, unfortunately, is a part of.” This type of rhetoric is a prelude to hate speech and it is exactly the type of rhetoric that fascists and communists use to single out opposition and turn masses against those who disagree or dissent. Ryan has labeled all who disagree with the Democratic Party positions as extremists and that this movement to dissent should be killed and confronted. Who says that kind of thing? January 6 committee announces October 13 public hearing

The House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, Capitol Hill insurrection announced Thursday that the panel’s next public hearing will be October 13 at 1 p.m. ET.
The committee had to reschedule this hearing, which was originally set for the end of September, because of Hurricane Ian.
This will be the panel’s 10th hearing since it formed. It did not specify the topic of the hearing in its announcement.
Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson of Mississippi, who chairs the committee, told reporters last week that he did not expect the hearing to have live witnesses.
“We’re not really looking at bringing witnesses before the committee in the next hearing,” Thompson said about the next hearing but promised it will feature “significant information” that has not yet been shown. (CNN) Read more here.

Could Putin’s nuclear first-use be Biden’s October surprise?

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Vladimir Putin has repeatedly threatened nuclear attacks over Ukraine. Public service announcements are telling Americans how to protect against one. And President Biden is warning of “Armaggedon.”
What’s going on here? Could it be that Team Biden believes it can exploit politically a breach of the so-called “nuclear taboo” by Russian first-use of a low-yield tactical weapon in Ukraine?
The president has already set the predicate for martial law by declaring half the country to be “enemies of the state.”
If it turns out that the size of an expected electoral “red-wave” won’t assure Democratic congressional majorities via Plan A – a reprise of the vote-fraud that got him the White House two years ago, Plan B just may be to postpone the midterms by parlaying an otherwise deterrable nuclear use, and fear of its further escalation, into Biden’s October Surprise.

Hunter's Moon illuminates weekend sky around the world
|

The first full moon of astronomical autumn rose over the weekend, shining so bright that it cast shadows after nightfall.
The autumnal equinox on Sept. 22 marked the changing of the seasons around the globe, and over the weekend, the Hunter's Moon illuminated the night sky as the first full moon of astronomical fall.
Even though it wasn't a supermoon, which appear bigger and brighter than a typical full moon, the light from the Hunter's Moon was still bright enough to cast shadows.
Photographers around the world captured images of the full moon, but some of the best footage was captured in Titusville, Florida. Trevor Mahlmann was positioned perfectly to record a video of a SpaceX rocket flying directly in front of the full moon over the weekend. Mahlmann had to stand in waist-deep water with his cameras to get the perfect angle to record the video.
The Hunter's Moon is not always the nickname for October's full moon. Instead, it is the name given to the full moon that occurs after the Harvest Moon, the full moon closest to the September equinox. Read More

The Enemy Nor Hurricane Ian Can't Stop God's 'Fire and Glory'

Are we canceling two nights of Fire and Glory in the Hertz Arena? Everyone knows that Fort Myers took a direct hit from Hurricane Ian. The Hertz Arena in Estero, Florida is right there, in its path. Does that mean we are canceling the two nights of Fire and Glory on October 24th and 25th? That big question deserves a complete answer. From the very beginning, I wondered why God chose this region of Florida for the first stop on our Fire and Glory Tour. Going to Pennsylvania would seem to have made much more sense as a first stop, since it is a battleground state. But no, His voice was emphatic, "Go to the Hertz Arena and invite Lance Wallnau to join you."
Amazingly, the Hertz Arena emerged unscathed. Not only that, but it served as a shelter for the people in that area during the hurricane. I believe that has a great spiritual significance. We also believe the hurricane has added a great urgency to the event. So the answer is very clear. We are not canceling. And not only are we going ahead with our plans, but we also believe the hurricane has added a great urgency to the event. More than ever, I know why God chose Estero. And now it is crystal clear that we are in God's perfect timing. God knew this storm was coming, and He knew what would be going on in the hearts of the people after the storm.
And speaking of 'after the storm,' there is a prophetic prediction that has been circulating in this area of Florida for a while. It seems a prophet said that a great hurricane would hit Clearwater and Tampa. The New York Times reported today that it has been 100 years since a hurricane hit Tampa. Think of that! That means this prediction is not a high probability guess. But it is what the prophet said would come after the hurricane that matters. He said it would be followed by a great spiritual awakening. Could this be it? All I know is that we cannot cancel. We dare not cancel. We must be ready for an astonishing outpouring of the Holy Spirit. God knows I am not hyping this event.
