Veterans Day 2024: Honoring those who deserve it.
|
|
|
We prepare for Veterans Day this year amid a highly charged and eagerly anticipated election. I hope the campaign and its aftermath won’t diminish from the significance of the upcoming holiday. Gen. Douglas MacArthur was quoting an old British ballad during his 1951 farewell address before Congress when he said: “Old soldiers never die – they just fade away.” Sadly, both old and young soldiers die every day. Each death diminishes us all, with each man or woman taking with them a reservoir of history and unique experience. We stand on their shoulders, enjoying relative peace and freedom today because so many gave their lives in times of war – and worked to keep the peace after the fighting stopped.
According to recent data, there are approximately 18 million veterans in the United States today – a steep decline from past years. While 18% of the population had served in the military back in 1980, that number hovers at just 7% today. The consequences of that shift are felt in numerous ways – from a waning of selflessness, sacrifice, and patriotic fervor to a diminished appreciation and empathy for those currently tasked with defending our nation. I’ve never had the privilege of wearing the uniform, but I’ve had and have the pleasure of knowing many men and women who did and do. Veterans hold a special place in our hearts and memories. Congress Tells Jack Smith to Preserve ALL Records of his Lawfare Against President Trump

Jack Smith was plucked by the Biden-Harris administration out of the field of private legal work and made, suddenly and without congressional confirmation, a "special counsel" to run part of the Democrats' lawfare campaign against President Trump.
He ended up bringing multiple legal claims against Trump and others, including a stunt that included the FBI's SWAT raid on Trump's Mar-a-Lago home in which officers reportedly rifled through the personal possessions of Melania Trump.
But he now has a problem, in that Trump is the president-elect.
Those cases are expected to vanish at some point when the pathway to that end result is determined.
But there's a signal lack of trust in the ranks of Congress that the organization Smith has set up to attack Trump will be forthcoming with all of the information it has used, so he's being told by Congress to save and protect everything. (World Net Daily) Read more

Florida's Abortion Amendment Becomes the First to Fail Since Roe's Reversal

On election night, pro-lifers cheered the news that a 6-week ban enacted under Gov. Ron DeSantis will get to stay, with further wins coming in South Dakota and Nebraska.
Pro-life evangelicals across the country celebrated the defeat of Florida’s proposed constitutional amendment on abortion on Tuesday night and thanked Gov. Ron DeSantis, whose 6-week ban will remain in effect.
Florida’s Amendment 4 is the first abortion-rights ballot measure to fail since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022 and sent the issue to the states. The proposal required a 60 percent majority to pass but fell short, with 57.4 percent approval, The Hill reported.

President-elect Trump is set to meet President Biden at the Oval Office on Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre announced Saturday.
The announcement comes as the pair work towards a transition of power which will conclude with Trump being sworn in as the 47th president on Jan. 20, 2025.
"At President Biden’s invitation, President Biden and President-elect Trump will meet in the Oval Office on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Additional details to follow," Jean-Pierre announced in a short statement. (Fox News) Read more.

FEMA Official Directed Hurricane Relief Workers to Avoid Homes with Trump Signs as Agency Conducts Cleanup

A Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) official has been removed from a role after directing disaster relief workers to skip homes "advertising" support for President-elect Trump after the devastating hurricanes in Florida.
In a statement to Fox News Digital, a FEMA spokesperson said the agency is "deeply disturbed" after the incident," noting the official who gave the instruction "was given no direction to tell teams to avoid these homes."
"While we believe this is an isolated incident, we have taken measures to remove the employee from their role and are investigating the matter to prevent this from happening ever again," the spokesperson said.
"The employee who issued this guidance had no authority and was given no direction to tell teams to avoid these homes, and we are reaching out to the people who may have not been reached as a result of this incident." (Fox News) Read more here

1. IDF reportedly targets Hezbollah site near Damascus - JNS
The Israel Defense Forces conducted a targeted strike on an apartment in Sayyidah Zaynab, a hub for Iranian terrorist activity south of Damascus, Syrian state media claimed on Sunday afternoon.
Syria’s SANA news agency, citing a military source, reported that the Israeli Air Force targeted a building “in the Sayyidah Zaynab area of the Damascus countryside, resulting in a number of martyrs and wounded.”
IAF fighter jets targeted two buildings occupied by Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorists, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a London-based war monitor affiliated with Syria’s opposition.
“The Israeli missiles targeted specific individuals in an apartment in one of the buildings, killing three people and injuring others,” the NGO said. (Read more)

2. Hamas terrorists planned to assassinate Minister Ben-Gvir and son - Israel National News
The ISA and officers of the Judea and Samaria District Police revealed that four Hamas-affiliated terrorists from the Hebron area intended to assassinate National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and his son Shovael.
The investigation found that the cell attempted to collect intelligence about the minister's locations, vehicle, and security detail and procedures.
At the same time, the cell intended to attack Shovael Ben-Gvir, who is known for being active on social media and has even been vocal about worsening conditions for prisoners and rules of engagement against terrorists. (Read more)

3. Media lies about Muslim street violence against Jews in Amsterdam - World Israel News
While most elected officials condemned the sustained Muslim street violence campaign against Jews (and anyone they thought was Jewish or at least non-Muslim in a given part of Amsterdam), the media quickly rushed into cover-up mode, describing it as ‘soccer hooliganism’ and a ‘clash’ involving ‘fans of an Israeli soccer team’ triggered by the burning of a PLO flag.
1. Soccer or ‘football’ was not the issue. It just created Jewish targets. This was a friendly match with a local soccer team that has a lot of Jewish fans. The Muslim mobs attacking Jews were not supporting the other team.

4. 'This is Auschwitz': Hundreds defy Amsterdam protest ban in solidarity with antisemitic attackers - Jerusalem Post
AMSTERDAM — Hundreds of anti-Israel protesters gathered on Sunday in Amsterdam’s Dam Square as an act of solidarity with Thursday night’s rampage against Israeli soccer supporters in which more than a dozen Israelis were injured.
Amsterdam police detained up to an estimated 100 pro-Palestinian protesters, driving them away in large buses from the scene of the protest. Of that number, between five and seven protesters who exhibited force against police officers were arrested.
By Sunday evening, those detained were dropped off outside the city center and released without consequence, despite Dutch law stating that defying a protest ban ratified by the court and resisting arrest are both illegal.
The hundreds in attendance defied Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema’s order to temporarily ban protests following the violence on Thursday against Israelis and Jews that broke out after the soccer match between host Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv. (Read more)

The Ministry’s situation room and Israel’s embassy in Amsterdam have been working to establish contact with all known victims as well as Israelis visiting the city.
Earlier, Amsterdam police reported they were investigating a potential hostage situation after an anti-Israel mob attacked Israelis following a football game on Thursday evening.

The Biden administration endured another defeat on Thursday when a federal judge tossed out an attempt to legalize hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants married to U.S. citizens.
Introduced in the summer, the “Keeping Families Together” program from the Biden administration offered protection to migrants here in the United States illegally that are married to U.S. citizens. On Thursday, the Trump-appointed U.S. District Judge J. Campbell Barker ruled the program beyond Biden’s executive authority. America First Legal announced the decision on X.

2. Report: Kamala Harris Blew $20 Million on Election-Eve Concerts with Lady Gaga, Katy Perry in Swing States Where Trump Beat Her - Breitbart
Amid the stunning revelation that Kamala Harris’ unsuccessful presidential campaign ended up $20 million in the red, despite raising $1 billion from donors, a new report has found that the rock concerts that her campaign staged on the night before the election — featuring Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and others — collectively cost around that same amount, up to $20 million.
Now vendors and others who worked on those concerts, which were meant to persuade “low-propensity voters” to turn out for Harris, are reportedly facing the prospect of unpaid invoices.
Members of the defeated Harris team told The New York Post that the concerts had a ruinous effect on the campaign’s budget and that fact was no secret — with one planned performance by rocker Alanis Morissette getting canceled to save money.

3. ‘Not Welcome Here’: Qatar Reportedly Expels Hamas Following Terrorist Group’s Latest Rejection Of Ceasefire Deal – Daily Caller
Qatar has demanded that Hamas officials inside the country leave in short order, seemingly out of frustration for the terrorist group’s latest rejection of a ceasefire deal with Israel, according to multiple reports.
For the last year, Hamas has turned down several ceasefire proposals put forward jointly by Israel, the U.S. and other Arab partners in the Middle East. Hamas recently rejected yet another ceasefire deal, prompting the U.S. to tell Qatar — which has served as a host nation for Hamas officials — that it is unacceptable that the terrorist group stay in the country any longer, according to Reuters.
Qatar then relayed the message and warned the terrorist group roughly 10 days ago that they must leave the country, according to Reuters.
Israeli media outlets reported similar revelations early on Friday, though none of the reports have yet been confirmed by the Israeli, U.S. or Qatari governments. Qatar reportedly told Hamas that they are “not welcome here,” one source told Israeli outlet KAN. (Read more)

President-elect Donald Trump and Elon Musk spoke over the phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday, according to multiple reports.
Trump and Musk have become close allies in recent months; the business tycoon campaigned on Trump’s behalf ahead of the election and has been promised a high-level spot in the next administration. Trump called Zelenskyy on Wednesday and spoke about the U.S.’ future support of Ukraine, according to multiple reports.
Zelenskyy reportedly congratulated Trump on his election win on Tuesday, sources with direct knowledge of the matter told Axios. Trump told Zelenskyy he would continue U.S. support for Ukraine.

5. Putin Open to Talks With Trump on Ending Ukraine War: Kremlin – The Epoch Times
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Nov. 8 that Russian President Vladimir Putin is keen to start talks with President-elect Donald Trump on putting an end to the war in Ukraine—but that Russia’s demands for ending the conflict remain unchanged.
“We all heard Mr. Trump say during his election campaign that he intended to reach out to Putin himself. This is why the willingness and openness are there, and the Russian head of state emphasized this yesterday,” Peskov told reporters on Friday, according to Russian state-run media Tass.

6. Federal Judge Tosses Illinois’ Unconstitutional Semi-Automatic Gun Ban - Daily Wire
A federal judge overturned Illinois’ unconstitutional ban on semiautomatic weapons on Friday, triggering the state’s top Democrats.
The law, which went into effect at the start of 2023, came in response to the shooting in Highland Park on July 4, 2022.
The Protect Illinois Communities Act banned semi-automatic rifles, commonly used magazines, and numerous attachments that firearms can be equipped with.
“Sadly, there are those who seek to usher in a sort of post-Constitution era where the citizens’ individual rights are only as important as they are convenient to a ruling class,” said U.S. District Judge Stephen P. McGlynn in his ruling.

President-Elect Trump Reveals Plan for the Deep State

Less than a week after his historic reelection, President-Elect Trump has released his plan to “shatter the deep state and restore government that is controlled by the people and for the people.”
Trump revealed this plan in a video posted to X. In the video, the President-Elect reveals the ten steps he will take as soon as he returns to the White House. These steps are:
1. Restore the President’s ability to remove rogue bureaucrats.
2. Clean out the corrupt actors in the National Security and Intelligence apparatus.
3. Reform the FISA courts.
4. Establish a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to declassify and
publish documents on the deep state’s misdeeds.
5. Launch a crackdown on government leakers.
6. Make every Inspector General’s Office independent and separate from
the departments they oversee.
7. Ask Congress to establish an independent auditing system to monitor
our intelligence agencies.
8. Move parts of the federal bureaucracy out of D.C.
9. Ban bureaucrats from taking jobs at the companies they regulate.
10. Push for a constitutional amendment to impose term limits on
members of Congress.
Should Trump be successful in these 10 steps, he would radically change our nation’s capital and the federal government itself.

The Amsterdam Pogrom is What Happens When the World Tolerates Antisemitism

Much like the reaction to the Hamas massacre of 1,200 citizens in Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, it didn’t take long for some in the media and on the anti-Israel left to try to flip the narrative about what took place in Amsterdam on the night of Nov. 7. Even as both the prime minister and king of the Netherlands apologized for the failure of the Dutch police to protect Israelis from a planned and coordinated attack on visiting Israeli soccer fans, many in the international media were suggesting that the incident was provoked by the Israelis.
According to The New York Times and the Associated Press, some Israelis in the country, who were there to attend a game between the Dutch Ajax team and Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv, allegedly chanted anti-Palestinian slogans and tore down a Palestinian flag. Rather than innocent victims of a mob reportedly composed of Arab and Muslim immigrants determined to hunt down and harm Jews, the leader of one left-wing Dutch political party referred to the visiting tourists as “thugs” who uttered “genocidal” and “racist” slogans.
Not to be outdone by the journalistic establishment and its anti-Israel bias, the left-wing Forward also claimed that the victims were “violent hooligans.” It claimed that Dutch Jews who feared antisemitism but didn’t wish to be associated with Israel and its post-Oct. 7 war on Islamist terrorists felt trapped in a conflict they wished to avoid. According to the paper, they are worried that the attacks in Amsterdam would be “weaponized” by Zionists or by non-Jewish right-wing politicians like Geert Wilders, leader of the largest party in the Dutch parliament. Wilders speaks for many in Holland and in Europe who are deeply critical of the way a massive influx of Muslim immigrants from the Middle East and North Africa is changing the character of their nations for the worse and that is also responsible for a surge in antisemitism. Yet for many on the left to even raise these issues is, by definition, racist.

Dave McCormick Unseats Dem Incumbent In Pennsylvania In Massive GOP Victory
|

|
GOP challenger Dave McCormick has defeated incumbent Democratic Pennsylvania Sen. Bob Casey in the state’s pivotal Senate race, according to The Associated Press.
The AP called the race Thursday afternoon, projecting that McCormick will narrowly win with 49% of the vote compared to Casey’s 48.5% share. As of Thursday, 99% of the votes had been counted, and the Casey campaign has highlighted that the tight margin may ultimately trigger an automatic recount as required by state law.
“As the Pennsylvania Secretary of State said this afternoon, there are tens of thousands of ballots across the Commonwealth still to count, which includes provisional ballots, military and overseas ballots, and mail ballots,” Casey campaign spokeswoman Maddy McDaniel said in a statement released moments after the race was called. “This race is within half a point and cannot be called while the votes of thousands of Pennsylvanians are still being counted. We will make sure every Pennsylvanian voice is heard.”
The Pennsylvania Senate race was widely touted as one of the most important and competitive Senate races in the country in the 2024 election cycle. Indonesian volcano spews ash 10 km high, thousands evacuate
|

JAKARTA, Nov 8 (Reuters) - Indonesia's Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted several times on Friday, belching volcanic ash that rose up to 10 km (32,800 ft) into the sky, officials said, following a big eruption on Sunday night that killed nine people
.
The eruption on the island of Flores in the province of East Nusa Tenggara has damaged more than 2,000 houses and caused thousands to evacuate.
Abdul Muhari, spokesperson for the country's disaster mitigation agency, said the eruptions were "pretty significant" due to ash rains and sand-falls that reached far into the surrounding areas.
Hadi Wijaya, chief of Indonesia's volcanology agency, said one eruption on Friday produced a towering ash column that reached eight km to 10 km high, adding volcanic matter and hot gas travelled across all directions from the volcano.
Friday's eruption produced the highest column since the first eruption on Sunday, Abdul said.
About 6,000 of the more than 16,000 people living in areas nearest the volcano had been evacuated to other villages, said Heronimus Lamawuran, a Flores government official. Read More
