U.S. Intelligence Community Has a New ‘Disinformation’ Center
|
|
The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) has stood up a new office to oversee the intelligence community’s efforts to combat “disinformation” and foreign influence campaigns in the United States, Director Avril Haines announced Thursday.
“Congress put into law that we should establish a foreign malign influence center in the intelligence community. We stood that up and it encompasses our election threat executive work essentially looking at foreign influence and interference in elections, and deals with disinformation more generally,” Haines (pictured) told the Senate Armed Services Committee during a hearing.
She said the office would support the State Department’s Global Engagement Center (GEC) monitor threats from China, Russia, Iran, and others so that policymakers can counter them. (Breitbart) Read more

Mitch McConnell Backs Kevin McCarthy’s Hand Ahead of Debt Summit Next Week
|
|
Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) backed House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s support for ”substantive” budget cuts days before he is set to meet with President Joe Biden and other congressional leaders to negotiate on debt ceiling legislation.
The Hill reported that McConnell signed onto a letter sent to Democrat Senate Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), led by Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), that calls for “structural budget reform” in debt ceiling negotiations and opposes Democrats’ proposal for a “clean” bill that only raises the debt ceiling.
The letter is McConnell’s clearest statement about where he stands amid the debt ceiling negotiations, as The Hill noted.
The letter reads:
The Senate Republican conference is united behind the House Republican conference in support of spending cuts and structural budget reform as a starting point for negotiations on the debt ceiling.
As such, we will not be voting for cloture on any bill that raises the debt ceiling without substantive spending and budget reforms.
More than 40 Senate Republicans signed onto this letter, signaling they have the votes to sustain a filibuster against any Democrat efforts to pass a “clean” debt ceiling bill, if necessary. (Breitbart) Read more
- Lord, we pray that unity would come to both houses of Congress, and that wisdom would prevail over the debt ceiling. Let repentance come to both as You bring about Your will over the nation.
- “I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment.” (1 Corinthians 1:10)

Yellen on Debt Ceiling: Biden Invoking 14th Amendment ‘Not Good’ But Possible Emergency Option
|
|
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that President Joe Biden invoking the 14th Amendment to address the debt ceiling was a “not good” emergency option that could cause a “constitutional crisis.”
Anchor George Stephanopoulos said, “Of course, there’s always the chance for this negotiation that you don’t reach a deal, and then it comes back to the president. He said on Friday night that he is not ready. The 14th Amendment that it should not be questioned. And the implications would be the United States would continue to issue debt, saying it is unconstitutional not to. The president says he is not ready to do that, but it does not seem like he took it off the table. Is it still a possibility?
Yellen said, “Our priority is to make sure that Congress does its job. There is no way to protect our financial system in our economy other than Congress doing its job and raising the debt ceiling and enabling us to pay our bills, and we should not get to the point where we need to consider whether the President can go on issuing debt. This would be a constitutional crisis.”
Stephanopoulos said, “But is it on the table? Is it something that could be considered? You said there is no way this could be done without Congress. Is that a hard and fast decision?” (Breitbart) Read more

1. Mayorkas: ‘Not Worried About Title 42’ Ending — ‘The Border Is Secure Because We Are Maximizing Our Resources’ for ‘Most Effective Results’ - Breitbart
During portions of an interview with NBC News Homeland Security Correspondent Julia Ainsley aired on Friday’s broadcast of “NBC Nightly News,” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said he is “not worried about” the expiration of Title 42 and that the Department of Homeland Security has planned and executed on its plans. Mayorkas also argued that “The border is secure because we are maximizing our resources to deliver the most effective results to our border with the most extraordinary workforce in the world.”
Ainsley asked, “Are you worried about Title 42 lifting next week?”
Mayorkas answered, “I’m not worried about Title 42 lifting. We recognize the challenge at the border.”
He also said, “Our responsibility is to plan and to execute on those plans, and that is indeed what we have done and continue to do.”
In another part of the interview, Ainsley asked, “Is our border secure?”
Mayorkas responded, “Our border is secure.” And also said, “The border is secure because we are maximizing our resources to deliver the most effective results to our border with the most extraordinary workforce in the world.” (Read more)

2. White House Unveils Rules Targeting Journalists Who Refuse To Be ‘Professional’ - Daily Caller
The White House released new requirements Friday outlining which journalists are allowed in the briefing room and presidential events, and warning about unprofessional behavior.
The new rules require journalists to submit a letter to gain access to the White House grounds with information about their employment, mandating that reporters work for “an organization whose principal business is news dissemination.”
The rule change comes as the administration has been facing repeated outbursts in the briefing room from reporters like Simon Ateba, and comes days after World Press Freedom Day. Journalists have called out White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre for not giving fair representation in the briefing room and the Biden administration has faced criticism from the press corps over unfair access to White House events. (Read more)
- Father, we pray for fairness for all journalists who cover the White House. Let them not play favorites, but let all have chances to ask their questions. We also ask for civility from the journalists toward the White House.

3. Biden administration targets a Catholic hospital for daring to question its authority - Washington Examiner
Not content to harass just Catholic nuns , the successor administration to the Obama White House has taken up harassing Catholic hospitals.
In April, Saint Francis Hospital South, which is one of five hospitals in the Saint Francis Health System network in eastern Oklahoma, received an ultimatum from the Biden administration: Extinguish your chapel’s sanctuary lamp, or we will strip you of your ability to accept Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children's Health Insurance Program.
For context, a sanctuary lamp is a “wax candle, generally in a red glass container, kept burning day and night wherever the Blessed Sacrament is reserved in Catholic churches or chapels,” according to the Modern Catholic Dictionary. “It is an emblem of Christ's abiding love and a reminder to the faithful to respond with loving adoration in return.”
Saint Francis eventually enlisted the aid of the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, whose attorneys argued the ultimatum violated the hospital’s First Amendment freedoms. (Read more)
- Lord, we pray that the Biden administration will cease from targeting any religion for any reason. We ask for a move of repentance across the government until everyone has been changed in their heart. If they do not change, let them be removed.

4. ‘Too-Big-To-Fail’ Banks Are Getting Even Bigger And Economists Are Sounding The Alarm - Daily Caller
The largest financial institutions deemed systemically important are expanding even more during the 2023 banking crisis, leading to greater systemic risks, according to economists who spoke to the Daily Caller News Foundation.
When the FDIC bailed out Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) and Signature Bank in March due to a systemic risk exception, depositors moved their money to the biggest banks in the country. “Larger banks mean larger bailouts,” Dr. Thomas Hogan, senior research faculty at the American Institute for Economic Research and former chief economist for the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, told the DCNF.
“For example, JPMorgan Chase, the nation’s largest bank, just got a sweetheart deal from the FDIC to acquire failing First Republic Bank,” he said. (Read more)
- Lord, we ask for Your unfailing grace over our banking system. As these situations become dangerous to the nation, we pray that You who know all things will prevent any disaster that sits before us.
- “The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it.” (Proverbs 27:12)

5. Democratic Senators Shy Away From Bernie Sanders’ $17 Minimum Wage Increase - Daily Caller
Several Democratic Senators have signaled they do not support Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont’s proposal to raise the federal minimum wage to $17 within five years.
Sanders announced the proposal on Thursday afternoon at the U.S. Capitol, stating that he would hold a markup for the bill on June 14 as Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) committee. At least three Democratic Senators, however, are unlikely to support the plan, which has been supported by progressive organizations and raises questions about whether the measure will pass the Senate, where Democrats have a majority.
“Just getting to $15 is a lot of work…We have a long way,” said Sen. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania to The Hill. Casey, who last month announced that he would run for re-election to a fourth term in 2024, sits on the HELP committee and represents a swing state that has frequently influenced presidential elections and control of the Senate. (Read more)
- Lord, we thank You that these senators are beginning to back away from this plan. Large chain restaurants are already paying higher wages due to the lack of help, but smaller businesses cannot afford such large wage hikes. We pray for wisdom to prevail against this plan.
- “Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold.” (Proverbs 13:3)

6. EXCLUSIVE: Chip Roy Introduces Bill To Crack Down On Non-Citizens Voting In US Elections - Daily Caller
Republican Texas Rep. Chip Roy introduced a bill Friday cracking down on noncitizens’ ability to vote in federal elections.
The Protecting American Voters Act, co-sponsored by Republican Reps. Matt Rosendale of Montana, Pete Sessions of Texas and Michael Burgess of Texas, would equip state officials with the information needed to verify citizenship upon voter registration, according to the bill obtained exclusively by the Daily Caller News Foundation. The bill also requires federal agencies to provide information upon states’ request, free of fees, from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ SAVE system that confirms who is a naturalized citizen.
The legislation also enables states to check the citizenship status of those already registered to vote, allowing officials to amend current registration rolls by removing those who aren’t citizens.
- Father, we pray that this bill will pass. Let no opposition destroy it from any political party.
- “Doing wrong is like a joke to a fool, but wisdom is pleasure to a man of understanding.” (Proverbs 10:23)

7. At Least 7 Dead At U.S.-Mexico Border, Multiple Injured After Car Mows Over Pedestrians: Reports - Daily Wire
Multiple people died on Sunday in South Texas at the U.S.-Mexico border after a vehicle reportedly ran over more than a dozen people, many of whom were migrants.
Video of the aftermath showed numerous bodies severely disfigured, including victims who had missing limbs, with the road and sidewalk covered in blood.
ABC News reported that the incident happened in Brownsville, Texas, which is right across the border from Matamoros, Mexico, and has resulted in at least seven deaths and at least six more suffering injuries. Mexican media said that the number of people injured was more than 15.
Brownsville Police Department Lt. Martin Sandoval told local media that the male driver was arrested on charges of reckless driving and that he is now being treated in the hospital while under guard by authorities. Officials are conducting drug and alcohol tests on the suspect.

8. California Reparations Task Force Approves Plan Giving Up To $1.2 Million To Each Black Resident - US News
Black California residents could receive up to $1.2 million based on how many years they have lived in the state after its official reparation task force approved recommendations on Saturday to issue a formal reparative monetary apology.
The nine-member panel, which became the first task force in the United States to form in September 2020, advanced the plan recommendations in Oakland, California. The draft includes calculated dollar figures based on categories ranging from mass incarceration, housing discrimination, and other alleged injustices.
According to the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 2.5 million Californians— about 6.5 percent of the state’s population— are black and could be eligible to receive reparations based on certain requirements.
“Reparations are not only morally justifiable, but they have the potential to address long-standing racial disparities and inequalities,” Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) told The Associated Press. (Read more)
Father, this plan exceeds even the entire budget of the state of California. We pray that You will bring wisdom to the state, and stop them from destroying everything that the citizens of the state have worked to achieve. We bind this plan and ask that You intervene.

Speaking Boldly And God's Will
The Daily Jot, Bill Wilson, May 8, 2023
Ever notice how the people that make it a point to put up signs in their yards like “Hate doesn’t live here” or those who openly say that there needs to be more love and understanding in the world, are the first to express anger, judgment, and mean-spiritedness when someone disagrees with their viewpoints? We have seen censorship from the government, big business, and even the news media. Hard to imagine that those who are supposed to bring truth in the news censor truth. The censorship and hate boils down to those who have a worldly view are offended by those who have a Godly worldview. Today’s censorship and animus is aimed toward Jews and Christians who stand for what is right and good.
It’s very easy to get wrapped around the axle of this ongoing attack on our values and faith. I know of people who have had to quit watching the news because it makes them anxious. People of faith are disconnecting from society. Churches are losing congregants, especially among young people. But are we to disengage? Christ said in Matthew 24:9 that “you shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.” He also said in Mark 16:15, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” And he advised in Luke 12:12 not to worry about what you will say when you are brought before the authorities “For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.” Like God told Moses in Exodus 4:12 that when he went before Pharaoh, “I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say.” Read More

9. Mad panic' evacuation as IAEA warns of a nuclear accident at Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant occupied by Russian forces - US News
An exodus from towns and settlements has begun as fears mount of fighting near a contested nuclear power plant in Ukraine, say officials.
The UN International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said the situation around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant that is occupied by Russian troops was becoming critical.
"We must act now to prevent the threat of a severe nuclear accident and its associated consequences for the population and the environment," said a statement from the IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi
Whilst the nuclear reactors are not currently producing energy, Grossi told the BBC's Newshour program that the nuclear materials remain at the site and, therefore, still pose a high risk if fighting was to break out in or near the plant.
"The general situation in the area near the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant is becoming increasingly unpredictable and potentially dangerous," Grossi said in a statement.
- Lord, this has been a concern since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. We pray that Your Holy Angels will stand guard over the nuclear reactor and stop any disaster from occurring.
- “You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance.” (Psalm 32:7)

18-Foot Sea Monster Emerged From The Depths of The Ocean and Was Caught Off of Southern California's Coast
|
|
Hold your breath! A marine science professor came face to face with a mythical creature straight out of a fantasy novel while snorkeling off the shores of Southern California. Behold the oarfish, an 18-foot sea monster with massive eyes.
The brave instructor, Jasmine Santana from the Catalina Island Marine Institute, needed a team of over 15 strong helpers to pull the behemoth from the sea and onto the shore. The Institute staff was buzzing with excitement, hailing a once-in-a-lifetime discovery.
Mark Waddington, the Tole Mour’s senior captain, CIMI's sail training ship, exclaimed, "Holy mackerel! We've never seen a fish this big! The last of these fish that we saw was only sound 3 feet."
Oarfish are elusive creatures that prefer depths of over a few thousand feet, making sightings few and far between. CIMI reports that they are still largely a mystery to marine scientists.
The oarfish was found to have died from natural causes, and tissue samples along with video footage have been sent to biologists at UC Santa Barbara for further study.

NC Churches Turn Old Church Buildings Into Housing for Refugees 'for the Glory of God'
|
|
As the number of refugees coming into the United States continues to rise and overwhelm government agencies, Christians in North Carolina are stepping up by retrofitting abandoned churches into homes to provide affordable housing for some of them. While some of the refugees are from war zones like Afghanistan, the southern border surge in migrants coming to the U.S. since the Biden administration loosened immigration policies has left resettlement agencies strapped. According to the Brookings Institution, the bulk of the population growth the U.S. experienced last year was due to a rise in immigration. The group estimates nearly one million refugees attributed to the national population growth between 2021-22.
The State Department often provides three months' housing costs for new arrivals before they have to find jobs, but the problem is the lack of affordable housing. "The rate of arrivals is faster than we can find long-term housing," said Adam Clark, executive director of World Relief in Durham, a resettlement agency in North Carolina. There has to be a temporary housing piece for this to work." A local network of churches in a small corner of North Carolina is helping to fill that gap in their area. Welcome House Community Network partners with one of 10 U.S. refugee resettlement agencies working to house the immigrants.
Nearly a dozen churches in the Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill areas of the state have repaired buildings for use by refugees. Altogether, the Welcome House Network has 40 churches that are a part of this housing, including churches in Virginia, Tennessee, and Texas. "It's increasingly difficult to find affordable housing for refugees," said Marc Wyatt, a missionary who founded the Welcome House Community Network. "Churches have physical property and buildings that are underutilized. Rethinking the use of those buildings for housing is our vision. We have assets that are sitting here and there are people coming into our community that need housing," said Kristen Muse, senior associate pastor at Hayes Barton Baptist. "Our congregation is a generous congregation and when they see the needs, they want to reach out and use what we have for the glory of God." (CBN) Read More
