DOJ Seeks 25-Year Prison Sentence for Oath Keepers Founder Stewart Rhodes
|
|
The U.S. Department of Justice is seeking a 25-year prison sentence for Oath Keepers founder Elmer Stewart Rhodes III after he was found guilty at trial of seditious conspiracy and other Jan. 6-related charges.
Such a sentence would by far be the longest of any Jan. 6 criminal prosecution.
In a 183-page sentencing memorandum (pdf) filed in U.S. District Court in Washington D.C., the DOJ also recommended prison sentences from 10–21 years for seven other Oath Keepers and an associate found guilty of various Jan. 6 crimes during trials in 2022 and early 2023.
“These defendants were prepared to fight. Not for their country but against it,” federal prosecutors wrote in a filing with U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta.
“In their own words, they were ‘willing to die’ in a ‘guerrilla war’ to achieve their goal of halting the transfer of power after the 2020 Presidential election,” the memo reads. “As a co-conspirator recognized, their actions made these defendants ‘traitors.’”
Other defendants, and the DOJ’s sentence recommendations, include Kelly Meggs, 21 years; Jessica Watkins, 18 years; Roberto Minuta, 17 years; Edward Vallejo, 17 years; Kenneth Harrelson, 15 years; Thomas Caldwell, 14 years; Joseph Hackett, 12 years; and David Moerschel, 10 years. COVID-19 Vaccine Effectiveness Drops Near Zero Within Months: Study
|
|
The effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines fell below 20 percent a few months after vaccination, with booster shots seeing effectiveness drop below 30 percent.

Booster doses restored vaccine effectiveness to levels similar to those seen after administration of the primacy cycle dose. However, nine months after the booster dose, vaccine effectiveness against Omicron was found to be lower than 30 percent against infection and symptomatic disease.
“The half-life of VE against symptomatic infection was estimated to be 87 days for Omicron compared with 316 days for Delta. Similar waning rates of VE were found for different age segments of the population.”
“These findings suggest that the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines against laboratory-confirmed Omicron or Delta infection and symptomatic disease rapidly wanes over time after the primary vaccination cycle and booster dose,” the study said.
“Putting together the bulk of available evidence on the waning of VE over time against COVID-19 variants has crucial implications for future interventions and vaccination programs.” (Epoch Times) Read more

Biden Says Son Hunter ‘Has Done Nothing Wrong’ Amid Rumors of Federal Charges
|
|
President Joe Biden said Friday that his son Hunter Biden “has done nothing wrong” as rumors swirl that the president’s son could soon face federal charges.
Biden made the remarks during an interview on MSNBC on Friday, which came days after the Washington Post cited anonymous “people familiar” as saying that Department of Justice (DOJ) prosecutors were nearing a decision on whether to charge Hunter Biden with tax- and gun-related violations.
“First of all, my son has done nothing wrong,” the president said in the interview. “I trust him. I have faith in him.”
The U.S. attorney’s office in Delaware has been investigating Hunter Biden’s tax affairs. The president’s son said in 2020 that he was taking the investigation “seriously” but was confident of a favorable outcome.
“I take this matter very seriously, but I am confident that a professional and objective review of these matters will demonstrate that I handled my affairs legally and appropriately, including with the benefit of professional tax advisors,” Hunter Biden said in a statement issued by the Biden-Harris transition team in December 2020. 1. Netanyahu: Israel’s counterterror ops an ‘international achievement’ - JNS
(May 7, 2023 / JNS) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday hailed his government’s efforts to combat Palestinian terrorism, describing them as an “international achievement.”
“I commend the security forces for eliminating the terrorists who carried out the shooting attack at Avnei Hefetz only a few days ago, after eliminating the terrorists who murdered Lucy, Maya and Rina Dee, may their memories be for a blessing,” said Netanyahu at the start of the weekly Cabinet meeting in Jerusalem.
Israeli forces on Saturday killed two terrorists who were involved in a shooting near the town of Avnei Hefetz in Samaria on May 2. Two days earlier, Israeli forces killed the Palestinian terrorists who last month murdered three members of the Dee family. (Read more)

2. Hamas threatens Jerusalem Day Flag March - Israel National News
Hamas spokesperson Abdul Latif al-Qanoua today (Sunday) issued a threatening message to Israel over the annual Flag March, which is held in Jerusalem every year on Jerusalem Day, which celebrates the reunification of the city in 1967.
"The Flag March in Jerusalem will not change the reality, we will maintain the equation as imposed by the resistance," al-Qanoua stated.
The Hamas spokesman told the Arab Sawa news agency: "Jerusalem will remain the capital of Palestine. We will not allow the Zionist occupation to carry out its plans to Judaize the Al Aqsa Mosque or the city of Jerusalem through division, sacrifices, or 'Flag Marches.' The Palestinian people will continue to protect the Al Aqsa Mosque and will continue to thwart any attempt to expand Zionist control over Jerusalem."
Earlier today, the Hamas terrorist organization claimed that "Zionist groups are conducting Torah lessons at the Al Aqsa Mosque." (Read more)

3. Israel Considering Large-Scale Military Operation in West Bank - Algemeiner
i24 News – Senior Israeli defense officials are considering the launch of a large-scale military operation in the West Bank to halt the upsurge in attacks carried out by various Palestinian terrorist groups, Israel Hayom daily reported on Thursday.
Officials have spent the past few weeks discussing the option of changing the military doctrine in the West Bank, including the option of a large-scale military operation.
According to the report, there is no consensus on the issue at the moment, with several senior Israeli army officials disagreeing on the appropriateness of such a move.
For its part, the Shin Bet internal security service supports an offensive approach and believes that Israel must change the way it conducts its operations in the region. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has not yet expressed his opinion and has instructed the relevant agencies to continue their work on the issue. (Read more)

4. Israel Seizes Nearly Two Hundred Crypto Accounts Linked to ISIS and Hamas Terror Groups: Report - Algemeiner
The Israeli authorities have seized nearly 200 accounts located at the Binance cryptocurrency exchange that are allegedly linked to Palestinian and Islamist terrorist organizations, among them ISIS.
An investigation by the Reuters news agency on Friday stated that several of the accounts were owned by Palestinian firms connected to Hamas, according to documents obtained from Israel’s National Bureau for Counter Terror Financing (NBCTF).
One of the NBCTF documents — an Administrative Seizure Order (ASO) — was published alongside the report. Dated Jan. 12, 2023 and signed by Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant, the ASO specified two Binance accounts owned by a 28-year-old Palestinian named Osama Abuobayda who is allegedly linked to ISIS. The text of the ASO noted that Galant had ordered the seizure in order “to thwart the activity of the terrorist organization the Islamic State (ISIS).” (Read more)

5. Norway Updates Policy on Israel, Jerusalem and Palestinian State - Algemeiner
JNS.org – The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs conceded last November to the pro-Israel NGO With Israel for Peace (Med Israel for fred, or MIFF) that capital cities are not subject to recognition by other countries.
At some point following a March 7 letter from MIFF, Norway changed its website to note that it recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and does not recognize a Palestinian state.
“The changes are important, because the updated text is now correct, and it does not treat Israel differently than other countries,” Conrad Myrland, general manager of MIFF, told JNS.
The bulk of the international community has long claimed that it doesn’t recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital due to the lack of settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Israel has countered that no other country has been denied the right to select its own capital. (Read more)

OXFORD, Alabama—In his first in-person speech after departing Fox News, Tucker Carlson did not hold back when speaking about what he sees are issues undermining America—lack of truth in the media landscape and a “manufactured” national division. During his hour-long speech, Carlson didn’t directly address the situation with Fox News but spoke about America’s political and social issues that he believes can lead to the “end of democracy” and the “enslavement” of the American people.
The antidote to this, Carlson said in his speech, is to seek truth—echoing a statement he made in a video published on Twitter last week, days after his exit from Fox, that “truth will prevail. Seek truth in your human relationships—always with humility—mindful that it’s pretty hard to get to the core truth of anything in this life,” he said. “And while we may never get to what is the deepest level of truth, we can move in that direction.”

2. CNN CEO Defends Trump Town Hall: ‘All Voices Should Be Heard’ - The Epoch Times
On Friday, Warner Bros. Discovery chief executive David Zaslav spoke in defense of CNN’s upcoming town hall interview with Donald Trump, saying that the former president deserves airtime on the news network.
“He’s a frontrunner. He has to be on our network,” Zaslav said on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” program in a segment posted to Twitter, speaking of the Trump town hall scheduled for prime time on May 10. “We’re happy he’s coming on there.”
Zaslav, who oversees a media empire encompassing CNN, HBO, and Hollywood studio Warner Bros., appeared on CNBC the day the company reported a $1.07 billion first-quarter loss. When host Joe Kernen mentioned that Trump would be on CNN, Zaslav replied, “He should be.”
The CEO first defended the direction CNN is heading under his leadership, saying it “has the greatest journalists and the largest group of journalists in the world,” with over 80 people on the ground in Ukraine, Poland, and Russia to report the ongoing conflict. (Read more)

3. World Health Organization Declares End to COVID-19 Public Health Emergency - The Epoch Times
The World Health Organization (WHO) on May 5 declared an end to the COVID-19 global health emergency. The public health emergency of international concern has been in place since Jan. 30, 2020. WHO director-general Tedros Ghebreyesus made the decision based on recommendations from WHO’s emergency committee.
The decision means “that it is time for countries to transition from emergency mode to managing COVID-19 alongside other infectious diseases,” Tedros said at a press conference from Geneva. Among the WHO’s recommendations is integrating COVID-19 vaccination into routine vaccinations, as the United States has done.
Officials cited how COVID-19 cases have been dropping for months and the continued uptick in the number of people who have recovered from COVID-19 and/or been vaccinated. “This trend has allowed most countries to return to life as we knew it before COVID-19,” Ghebreyesus said. (Read more)

4. Oregon Bill To Hide Children From Parental Knowledge On Abortions, Gender Surgery PASSES State House - The Gateway Pundit
Oregon Democrats have rammed through HB2002, a highly controversial bill that would allow children to get abortions and undergo gender transformation surgery without their parents’ knowledge, and the parents’ insurance company would have to pick up the cost.
After a series of procedural attempts by the Republicans to stop the proposal on Monday, the bill passed 36-23, with every democrat voting for it, along with one republican, Representative Charlie Conrad. Every other Republican voted against the bill, sans one who was absent for the day
If passed into law, the bill would also decriminalize the concealing of a dead infant, and force Oregon taxpayers to foot the cost for people from out-of-state seeking these same procedures. Doctors are also shielded from any malpractice related to these procedures. (Read more)

5. What We Know About Texas Shooting That Left 8 Victims Dead - Forbes
At least eight victims were left dead at a suburban Dallas outlet mall Saturday afternoon in the nation’s latest mass shooting, but major questions, like the shooter’s identity, weapon used and potential motive, remained unanswered Sunday morning. The victims’ identities are not known, but a Medical City Healthcare spokesman told the New York Times injured victims between the ages of 5 and 61 are being treated.
Critical details about the shooter, including the person’s name, have not been publicly released, but CNN reported it obtained a photo showing the suspected gunman on the ground wearing body armor alongside an AR-15-style rifle, while several magazines were also attached to the gunman.
"People will be looking for answers. And we're just sorry that those families are experiencing that loss,” Harvey said. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and the White House, along with several members of Congress, released statements expressing support for Allen following the shooting. (Read more)

6. Pakistan rejects US commission report on religious freedom - Jerusalem Post
Minorities in Pakistan enjoy equal human rights to other citizens and “there is no misuse of the blasphemy laws against them,” Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, a religious cleric and the Pakistani prime minister’s special representative on interfaith harmony and the Middle East, told The Media Line.
Ashrafi was responding to a report released this week by the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, which recommended that 12 nations remain on the list of countries of concern for religious freedom, among them Pakistan, China, Saudi Arabia, and Iran. Speaking of Pakistan, the report stated that the coalition government led by Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, which took office in mid-April 2022, had “weaponized the country’s blasphemy laws against former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his cabinet members.”
“These laws have enabled and encouraged radical Islamists to operate with impunity, openly targeting religious minorities or those with differing beliefs, including nonbelievers,” the report said. “In 2022, Pakistan’s religious freedom conditions continued to deteriorate. Religious minorities were subjected to frequent attacks and threats, including accusations of blasphemy, targeted killings, lynching, mob violence, forced conversions, sexual violence against women and girls, and desecration of houses of worship and cemeteries.” (Read more)

7. Russia Evacuates Civilians From Parts of Ukraine Ahead of Kyiv Counteroffensive - Wall Street Journal
Russian-installed officials ordered civilians in 18 occupied communities near the front line to evacuate as both sides appear to be bracing for a widely expected Ukrainian offensive.
Yevgeniy Balitsky, the Russian-installed head of occupied parts of Ukraine’s southern Zaporizhzhia region, said the evacuation was needed to “strengthen security,” amid an uptick in Ukrainian attacks. The city of Enerhodar, next to the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, is among the communities being evacuated. (Read more)

8. Ukraine downs Russian hypersonic missile with US Patriot - AP News
Ukraine’s air force claimed Saturday to have downed a Russian hypersonic missile over Kyiv using newly acquired American Patriot defense systems, the first known time the country has been able to intercept one of Moscow’s most modern missiles.
Air Force commander Mykola Oleshchuk said in a Telegram post that the Kinzhal-type ballistic missile had been intercepted in an overnight attack on the Ukrainian capital earlier in the week. It was also the first time Ukraine is known to have used the Patriot defense systems.
“Yes, we shot down the ‘unique’ Kinzhal,” Oleshchuk wrote. “It happened during the night-time attack on May 4 in the skies of the Kyiv region.”
Oleshchuk said the Kh-47 missile was launched by a MiG-31K aircraft from Russian territory and was shot down with a Patriot missile. (Read more)

Astronomy news: Astronomers capture star snacking
on Jupiter-sized planet
|

It took years before the puzzling discovery came into focus, and it could be a preview of Earth’s fate in the distant future.
Planet’s doom may reveal fate of Earth
A new study published in the journal Nature detailed the blazing bright end of a planet roughly the same size as Jupiter.
The discovery was made about three years ago by astronomers at the Zwicky Transient Facility near San Diego. As they were scanning the sky one night, they noticed an unusually bright object. The star in question is located about 15,000 light-years from Earth, and it took some time before scientists figured out what was going on. Mansi Kasliwal, a professor of astronomy at Caltech, said, “when every single clue fell right in place, then I was convinced that what we were seeing here was indeed a star engulfing a planet,” according to an NPR report.
The observations may be a glimpse into the future of the Earth. “Like all stars, our Sun will eventually run out of energy,” NASA explained. “When it starts to die, the Sun will expand into a red giant star, becoming so large that it will engulf Mercury and Venus, and possibly Earth as well.” However, this certain doom is not expected anytime soon with NASA projecting that it will take place in about 5 billion years. NYC Mayor Claims God Delivered Prophetic Words That Came True,
Shares New Message He Received From the Lord

New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) raised more than a few eyebrows and riled atheist activists after a February address during which he took aim at the separation of church and state and seemingly blamed the absence of school prayer for violence. Two months later, Adams isn’t backing away from theological proclamations, revealing on the National Day of Prayer the messages he believes God has given him throughout his life. The first was a missive decades ago telling him he would one day become mayor. Adams heralded that the “power of prayer” was revealing the details during a Wednesday address at the Rev. A.R. Bernard’s Christian Cultural Center in New York City. “[Thirty-two] years ago, God placed on my heart that Jan. 1, 2022, I would be the mayor of the city of New York,” Adams said. “But God said, ‘Do not be silent, because if you are silent, then when you get there, people are going to believe you stumble there.'” And he apparently shared that prophecy with many people he met along the way.
Regardless of where people stand on Adams’ God claim, no one can dispute his comments are bold, especially for someone of his political stature. The other purported message the mayor said he received reportedly came more recently when the Lord reportedly implored the mayor to share God more openly, The New York Times reported. Adams, in fact, said this is the reason he’s been so vocal about the Almighty of late. "You may not have noticed, but the last few months … I have been talking about the need of God being back in our lives,” he said. “And it’s because the same voice I heard 32 years ago spoke to me a few months ago and said, ‘Talk about God, Eric. Talk about God.’ We have been so ashamed of God.” Adams even declared Wednesday “New York City Day of Prayer,” something the Times noted isn’t too common among city leaders. (CBN) Read More Here.
