43 Senate Republicans Say No to Increasing Debt Limit Without Substantive Spending Cuts
|
|
A group of 43 Republicans in the U.S. Senate said on May 6 that they “oppose raising the debt ceiling without substantive spending and budget reforms,” coalescing around their House counterparts ahead of the White House meeting over the federal debt ceiling amid a monthslong political standoff.
“The Senate Republican conference is united behind the House Republican conference in support of spending cuts and structural budget reform as a starting point for negotiations on the debt ceiling,” the group of Republicans, led by Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), said in a letter addressed to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-Calif.).
Almost all Republicans in the Senate signed the letter, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).
“It is now clear that Senate Republicans aren’t going to bail out Biden and Schumer, they have to negotiate,” Lee said in the statement accompanying the letter. “I thank my colleagues for joining my effort to emphasize this point in the clearest possible terms.”
President Joe Biden is scheduled to sit down with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on May 9 to discuss a path forward on the federal debt ceiling. But the White House has signaled that there would be little compromise from the president.

Yellen Warns ‘Constitutional Crisis’ Could Come Next Month
|
|
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said she will not rule out the possibility of declaring the debt ceiling unconstitutional if Congress cannot resolve its standoff over the debt ceiling, but said there are “no good options” on the table.
“There is no way to protect our financial system in our economy other than Congress doing its job and raising the debt ceiling and enabling us to pay our bills. And we should not get to the point where we need to consider whether the president can go on issuing debt,” Yellen told ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday.
She was responding to a question about whether the Treasury could use the 14th Amendment to declare the debt ceiling unconstitutional. It reads, in part, that the “validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned.”
But the U.S. Constitution also gives Congress the power of the purse. If Yellen invoked the amendment, it would trigger a “constitutional crisis,” she told ABC News.
When pressed further by ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, a former Clinton White House press secretary, Yellen said that there was nothing the Biden administration could do to avoid an “economic catastrophe” if the 14th Amendment was invoked. (Read more)

Robert Kennedy Jr. Blames CIA for Assassination of JFK
|
|
Democratic White House contender Robert Kennedy Jr. recently blamed the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for the assassination of his uncle, President John F. Kennedy, in 1963.
Kennedy Jr., the son of assassinated Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, made the allegation on Sunday with John Catsimatidis on WABC 770 AM’s “Cats Roundtable.” Theories around JFK’s assassination have endured throughout the decades, with many others speculating that the CIA, former President Lyndon B. Johnson, the mafia, the Soviet KGB, Jackie Onassis Kennedy, or the Fidel Castro regime—or some combination thereof—were involved in his death.
“There is overwhelming evidence that the CIA was involved in his murder. I think it’s beyond a reasonable doubt at this point,” Kennedy said about the November 1963 incident in Dallas, Texas. “The evidence is overwhelming that the CIA was involved in the murder, and in the cover-up,” he also said.

1. Israel launches Operation Shield and Arrow in Gaza with strike on PIJ leaders - Israel Hayom
Israeli aircraft conducted strikes on Palestinian Islamic Jihad targets in the Gaza Strip early Tuesday, the Israeli military said, and the group said three senior commanders and members of their families were killed in the attacks.
Witnesses said an explosion hit the top floor of an apartment building in Gaza City and a house in the southern city of Rafah. Airstrikes continued in the early hours, targeting militant training sites.
The Palestinian Health Ministry said 12 additional people were killed in the airstrikes, although the IDF said that number stood at nine as of Tuesday morning. The PIJ claimed the wives of the three commanders and a number of their children were also killed. (Read more)

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened a press conference this evening (Tuesday) together with Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi and Shin Bet chief Ronan Bar at the end of the cabinet meeting that dealt with Operation Shield and Arrow.
"This morning, the State of Israel carried out a decisive and justified action. In Operation Shield and Arrow, the IDF eliminated the senior leaders of the Islamic Jihad in Gaza. They are responsible for launching the rockets last week and directing many terrorist operations in Judea and Samaria," Netanyahu began.
He added, "In addition to this, we attacked the central terrorist infrastructure of Islamic Jihad in Gaza, I am speaking first and foremost about the destruction of weapons factories, ammunition and rockets. Already a week ago, against the background of the missile attack on the Gaza periphery communities, I, together with the Minister of Defense, ordered our forces to strike the leaders of the terrorists who were responsible for the shooting." 3. Shin Bet chief: Slain Gaza terror chief was directing West Bank rocket-making cell - Times of Israel
Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar said Tuesday that security forces recently foiled a Palestinian Islamic Jihad cell based in the West Bank that had started to manufacture rockets to launch at Israel under the direction of one of the senior leaders in the group eliminated by Israel in a series of airstrikes in Gaza.
The revelation came during a primetime press conference held by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi and Bar to update Israelis on the decision to launch Operation Shield and Arrow early Tuesday morning, and warn terror groups in Gaza against attempts to turn the latest escalation into a multi-front battle.
Khalil Bahtini, who commanded Islamic Jihad in northern Gaza; Jihad Ghanem, a top official in the group’s military council; and Tareq Izz ed-Din, who directed Islamic Jihad terror activities in the West Bank from a base in Gaza were killed in the IDF airstrikes along with 10 civilians who were either with them or in adjacent apartments. 4. Border Police nab two terrorists on their way to attacks, another 8 arrested in counterterrorism raids - World Israel News
Border Police units captured two terrorists who were already on their way to carry out separate attacks Monday night, one in Jerusalem and the other in Samaria.
The police released a statement saying that a Palestinian resident of Judea and Samaria in his 20s was arrested in the Old City for planning to attack people with a pair of scissors he had hidden in a bag that he was carrying.
His behavior aroused the suspicion of a patrol, who stopped and searched him, finding the sharp implement. During his interrogation, he admitted that he was planning to carry out a stabbing very close to where he had been caught.
The authorities will ask the court Tuesday to extend his remand in custody, according to a report Tuesday in Makor Rishon. (Read more)

5. Israel Raids Nablus in West Bank as Army Launches Gaza Operation - Algemeiner
i24 News – Israeli forces operated in the center of Nablus to arrest an individual linked to terrorist activity, during which time weapons were seized and a second suspect was detained, a spokesperson for the military said.
The arrest raid took place as Operation ‘Shield and Arrow’ was underway in Gaza, heightening tension in both arenas. Palestinians in the Nablus area reported a large number of Israel Defense Forces (IDF) vehicles arriving in convoy.
During the activity Palestinian residents responded violently to the Israeli presence, causing the military to respond with riot control means, and live .22 caliber fire. As Israeli forces withdrew from the city they were attacked with live fire and explosives, the Israeli statements said.
It was later reported that an explosive device hurled at the Israeli troops left one soldier lightly wounded. (Read more)

1. Dianne Feinstein making return to Senate for first time in months - Washington Examiner
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) is en route back to Washington, D.C., to make a return to the Senate for the first time in months amid calls from several members of her own party to resign, a spokesperson for the senator confirmed to the Washington Examiner.
Feinstein is set to return to the Senate floor to cast a vote on Wednesday, her first recorded vote since Feb. 16, before the five-term senator stepped away due to health problems. The California senator’s office has long teased a return to the upper chamber, with many congressional Democrats growing restless over her absence stalling their agenda.
Feinstein has not issued a statement regarding her return to the Capitol, but the news of her return was met with cheers from several of her Democratic colleagues. (Read more)

2. Trump responds to verdict in E. Jean Carroll case - DML News
Former President Trump told Fox News Digital that he will appeal the ruling of the E. Jean Carroll case, saying he has “absolutely no idea” who she is, while blasting the verdict as a “disgrace” and “a continuation of the greatest political witch hunt in history.”
A federal jury in New York City decided on Tuesday that Trump was not liable for rape, but was liable for sexual abuse and defamation. The former president has been ordered to pay $2 million.
In an exclusive interview, just after the jury delivered the verdict, Trump told Fox News Digital that he has “absolutely no idea who this woman is.”
“This verdict is a disgrace,” Trump told Fox News Digital. “It is a continuation of the greatest political witch hunt in history… We’ll appeal. We got treated very badly by the Clinton-appointed judge… And [Carroll] is a Clinton person too.” (Read more)

3. Border Democrat bucks Biden and backs Title 42 extension - Washington Examiner
Rep. Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX) on Monday voiced his support for extending a Trump-era and GOP-backed immigration policy expected to end on Thursday, saying he wants to ensure a "smooth transition" as officials warn of record numbers of migrant crossings.
"I am for the extension of Title 42, at least for a little while longer," Gonzalez told the Washington Examiner on Monday. "And the reason is because I think that would give us an opportunity to build much more infrastructure to assure that it's a smooth transition from Title 42 to ultimately Title 8."
Under Title 42, more than 2.8 million immigrants have been expelled under that pandemic-era policy that allowed U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials to quickly turn away immigrants entering the United States for public health reasons. After 11:59 pm EDT Thursday, Title 8 will kick in and automatically deport most immigrants after they enter the U.S., and those who attempt to cross again may face felony charges. (Read more)

4. Biden admin clears way for more migrant releases to city streets: ‘The dam is about to break’ - DML News
The Biden administration’s top border officials in Washington, D.C., have decided to authorize all Border Patrol sectors to begin “safe” mass releases of migrants to city streets if non-governmental organizations don’t have the capacity to hold them, multiple sources tell Fox News.
The consequence of this decision is that migrants will be mass released at bus stops, gas stations, supermarkets and in towns and cities across the border as Customs and Border Protection facilities are already over capacity in multiple sectors, according to CBP sources who were not authorized to speak publicly.
NGOs are quickly approaching their limits to house migrants and tens of thousands more migrants are expected to surge into the United States once the Title 42 public health order is lifted on May 11. The report explains that the Biden administration will only conduct the mass releases if NGOs run out of space, but they believe that is likely to happen. (Read more)

5. After School Satan Clubs gain popularity amid legal victories - The Hill
After School Satan Clubs have been steadily increasing in popularity and are not likely to slow as their supporters rack up media attention and legal wins fighting for free speech.
The clubs, associated with the Satanic Temple and offered only in primary schools, began at the beginning of 2020 and quickly gained attention from parents who wanted an alternative to religious clubs, according to June Everett, campaign director of the After School Satan Club.
“That’s kind of when things started blowing up. And I anticipate that every year moving forward is going to get busier and busier,” Everett told The Hill.
Last Monday, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania ruled in favor of the Satanic Temple and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which sued when a Northampton County school district would not allow the club to meet on its grounds. (Read more)

6. W.H.O., Chelsea Clinton, and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Team Up to Push Child Vaccinations - Brietbart
Several organizations — including the World Health Organization, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and Chelsea Clinton via the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) — are teaming up to push vaccinations onto children in an effort titled “The Big Catch-up.”
A press release detailing the effort identifies W.H.O., UNICEF, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and “many other global and national health partners” joining together for “The Big Catch-up,” which they describe as “a targeted global effort to boost vaccination among children following declines driven by the COVID-19 pandemic.”
It cites declines in childhood vaccination, largely triggered by the Chinese coronavirus pandemic. The press release also points to “vaccine hesitancy,” as well as the “climate crisis” as contributing factors to the decline. (Read more)

7. War on appliances continues as Biden admin releases new rules for dishwashers - DML News
The Department of Energy proposed new appliance rules that would cut water and energy use limits for Americans’ dishwashers well below current levels.
The proposal would limit dishwashers to using 3.2 gallons of water per cycle, far below the current federal limit of 5 gallons. The rules would also require manufacturers to reduce their products’ energy consumption by nearly 30%.
Most dishwashers on the market are already well below the federal standard of 5 gallons, with most using 3.5 gallons per cycle or less.
The report adds that regulations are also being considered on washers, dryers and refrigerators, which manufacturers warn could reduce performance. (Read more)

8. Tucker Carlson to host show on Twitter after being fired from Fox News - CNBC
Tucker Carlson is back – on Twitter.
The right wing TV personality said in a video on his Twitter feed Tuesday that he is relaunching his show on the social media platform, which is owned by Elon Musk. Carlson was abruptly fired from his prime time post at Fox News weeks ago, shortly after the network paid a settlement to Dominion Voting Systems in its defamation lawsuit.
In a three minute video posted to Twitter, Carlson berated the mainstream media allegedly lying to the public. He told viewers: “You are being manipulated.” Carlson added that Twitter “is not a partisan site.”
A Fox representative didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. A Twitter spokesperson responded with a poop emoji when asked for comment on Tuesday.

There is a connection between the Hunter and Joe Biden enrichment scheme and the fake Russian dossier. Obviously, the Democratic Party is involved in both, but there are other similarities that put American citizens in a very dangerous position. Both stories were during US presidential elections. Both stories were handled to the advantage of the Democratic candidate for president. Both stories were managed and manipulated by political forces and the news media. In the Russian dossier against President Trump, the media found him guilty immediately and worked against his election. In the Joe and Hunter Biden case, the media held that the story was nothing more than a conspiracy theory by detractors.
With the Russian dossier, let us not forget that President Obama himself, in collaboration with the Democratic National Committee and the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign, petitioned the secret FISA Court for a warrant to spy on Trump’s campaign. Also it was FBI agents who were complicit in fomenting an ongoing investigation that resulted in an impeachment trial. It was also the FBI that pressured the news media and actually worked closely with Facebook, Twitter, Google and other social media companies to suppress, even censor, the stories about Joe and Hunter Biden’s influencing scheme. Playing offense will take time as cultural transformation requires knowledge, experience, expertise, and wisdom coupled with engagement. To make the equivalent of what secularism has done to public education over the last 100 years or so, let’s suppose that teachers over the next decade secretly begin baptizing kids at school and hiding it from parents - what would be the Left’s reaction?
What has happened to a nation founded “for the glory of God, and advancement of the Christian faith” greatly exceeds Christian bounds of reason and moderation.

The Biden administration believes that almost every person attempting to cross our border should have the right to enter the U.S. and make an asylum claim.
Nearly every headline about the expected surge in migrants mentions something called Title 42—and with good reason. On May 11, this U.S. law expires and won’t be available to stop mass illegal entry on our southern border.

“Hitler took the storefronts.” I heard the Lord whisper this to me one day in 2016, as I was going about my tasks. After praying to test this revelation, I felt that the Lord was telling me something important about how that Austrian politician had cowed an entire nation into doing his demonic will, ultimately launching World War II and the Holocaust.
Hitler successfully pushed his agenda of racial purity and national superiority (which may have drawn from the eugenics ideas of Margaret Sanger, founder of what came to be called Planned Parenthood). He employed a cunning mix of propaganda to “normalize” his agenda, thus The Weaponization of Loneliness Joyce Swingle, IFA Contributing Writer | May 9, 2023 cultivating social paranoia and inculcating a sense of isolation among those who did not concur with his ideas. Dissent came to feel dangerous, and many censored their own words.
Images from the films I saw in my elementary school days still scroll through my mind: huge crowds of uniformed people marching and saluting der Führer; children encouraged by the Nazis to inform on their parents; the fear of those suffering persecution by the government. As I look back on those Nazi images and ideas, it seems incredible to me that anyone would go along — much less entire groups of people. Back then, though, living in that moment, it must have been different. The uncertainty, the fear, the sense of social isolation must have been overwhelming. In fact, one of Satan’s biggest lies is to tell us that we are all alone in our circumstances, opinions, and life. This lie is devastating because it not only isolates but also silences us. We become afraid to speak out, even when the truth is evident, for fear of being further ostracized or even killed.
But loneliness is more than a human tyrant’s tool. It is a satanic strategy for crippling the saints and retarding the progress of God’s kingdom. The Lord (Himself part of the “community” of Father, Son, and Spirit) created us to be in relationship with Himself and with each other. Satan’s very first attack on humans (the successful temptation of Adam and Eve to sin) resulted in a breaking of both those relationships — and alienation and loneliness were born.

Throughout the Scriptures, we see loneliness afflicting God’s people. Even the mighty Elijah came to suffer overwhelming loneliness following his spiritual victory over pagan forces on Mount Carmel, after an enraged Queen Jezebel made death threats against him. Elijah fled for his life and complained to the Lord: “ … I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of hosts For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant thrown down of hosts. For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away” (1 Kings 19:10).
But in Christ, a mending of any broken relationship with our God is accomplished. The Scriptures attest to the Lord’s presence with His followers: … “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age … (Matthew 28:20). … for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5). … “You are my servant, I have chosen you and not cast you off; fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God” … (Isaiah 41:9–10).
... One day, I was complaining about my loneliness, when the Lord asked me, in His quiet way: “Are you really lonely? Or are you afraid to be lonely?” This took me aback. When I was honest with myself, I realized that I wasn’t actually lonely, but only afraid that I might be lonely. And spending time being afraid of something that only might be happening seemed like a terrible waste of energy. Instead, I made the decision to tuck myself into my faith community, to cultivate relationships, and to deepen my understanding of God and His ways.

Pray with me: Lord, equip us to fight the satanic and human tyranny and weaponization of loneliness. Teach us to war using the sword of Your truth to combat every lie. Give us courage to stop self-censoring when lies and evil are shouted at us. Give us confidence that our views are heard in the public square and that they can be adopted by increasing numbers of people. Bind up the demonic spirits of isolation and loneliness, and cast them into the abyss. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

At least 400 people have died after floods and landslides hit the Democratic Republic of Congo's South Kivu province last week, officials told CNN.
Heavy rainfall through last week caused rivers to overflow and created mudslides that devastated the villages of Bushushu and Nyamukubi in South Kivu's Kalehe territory, provincial governor Theo Kasi told CNN Monday.
"We have 401 deaths in Bushushu and Nyamukubi villages in Kalehe territory," Kasi said.
Videos from the area show buildings swept away in the water and mud, with debris strewn across the villages.
Valet Chebujongo, an activist in Kalehe, told CNN that rescuers have been unable to clear the muddy roads, leaving residents with the dangerous option of wading through lakes.
"The Congolese government and its partners should find a safe place where the victims will be relocated and ask the population not to use the flowing waters and the lake during this period," Chebujongo said, adding that there are "no machines to clear the mud and clear the landslides in the road to allow the population to circulate Bushushu-Nyamukubi villages. Nearly 700 Babies Saved from Abortion During '40 Days for Life' Spring Campaign

Nearly 700 unborn babies worldwide were saved from abortion during this spring's international 40 Days For Life campaign. As CBN News has reported, 40 Days For Life is a pro-life organization that conducts a 40-day campaign striving to end abortion by bringing unity to the spirit and body of Christ through prayer and fasting, community outreach, and a peaceful all-day vigil in front of abortion businesses. This spring, 680 babies were reportedly saved during its international spring Lenten campaign, which ran from February 22 through April 2. "The first 2 @40daysforlife campaigns following the overturning of #RoevsWade were the largest EVER," tweeted Shawn Carney, CEO & President of 40 Days for Life. "We gained US cities despite losing some because the abortion facility closed. Another example that prolifers aren't going away."
Each day during 40 Days for Life, individuals, churches, families, and groups join together in prayer for a specific request so the entire body of Christ can unite around that focus. The public piece of 40 Days for Life is a focused, 40-day, non-stop, round-the-clock prayer vigil outside a single Planned Parenthood center or other abortion facilities in the community. According to the group, 76 unborn babies were saved in California and 69 unborn babies were saved in Illinois. A 40 Days for Life director in Ibero-America told CNA that prayer is central to the success of their outreaches.
