GOP Pushes Back Against WHO Plans for ‘Global Governance’ on Emergencies
|
|
House Republicans took to the podium on May 17 to condemn the Biden administration’s negotiation of global pandemic agreements that they say will grant additional power to the World Health Organization (WHO) and centralize authority in an organization they say failed the American public during the COVID pandemic.
Shortly thereafter, on May 19, WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus issued a report to member nations stating that, while the “re-emergence of epidemic-prone diseases continues to accelerate,” the WHO’s mandate regarding “health emergencies” must extend beyond pandemics to include hunger, poverty, ecological degradation, climate change, and social and economic inequalities.
The Director General wrote that member nations must establish a “global architecture for health emergency preparedness, prevention, response, and resilience (HEPR),” which includes “global governance, financing and HEPR systems.”
But GOP lawmakers disagreed with the WHO.
“International law does not trump our Constitution,” Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-Wyo.) said at a Capitol press conference. “Biden cannot force Americans to follow laws and regulations not passed by our own federal government.”
“The World Health Organization pandemic treaty is very vague, it affects our sovereignty, and it could be exploited to tell Americans what kind of health care they need in the event of a global pandemic,” Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) said. The public forum was organized by Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) and included 18 House members.
Ambassador Pamela Hamamoto, on behalf of the United States, is currently negotiating terms of the WHO Pandemic Accord, which is scheduled to be signed by the 194 WHO member nations in 2024, as well as amendments to International Health Regulations (IHRs), also under the auspices of the WHO. In sum, these negotiations are intended to produce legally binding treaties and agreements that will coordinate a united response among member nations during a “health emergency,” with much of the decision-making authority vested in the WHO. FBI Again Promises to Stop Unjustly Searching NSA Data on Americans
|
|
After a recently unsealed court opinion censuring the FBI for impermissibly searching sprawling NSA databases for information on Americans, the bureau has again vowed to fix itself. The FBI has for years promised to address the issue, but the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC), which oversees the use of the intelligence databases, has repeatedly found the remedies lacking, though the last FBI internal audit showed improvements.

In 2019, the DOJ informed the FISC of dozens more improper searches of the database, such as to vet a potential source, to vet a local police officer candidate, and to vet a maintenance crew visiting an FBI office.
The FBI has repeatedly pledged to put measures in place to ensure compliance, but the violations continued. The last set of measures, put in place in late 2021 and early 2022, require agents to personally type out a justification for each query to access the results and for a lawyer to approve queries that target many people at once.
“As Director [Christopher] Wray has made clear, the errors described in the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court’s opinion are completely unacceptable,” a senior FBI official told The Epoch Times in an emailed statement.
“As a result of the audits that revealed these instances of noncompliance, the FBI changed its querying procedures to make sure these errors do not happen again. These steps have led to significant improvement in the way we conduct queries of lawfully obtained Section 702 information. We are committed to continuing this work and providing greater transparency into the process to earn the trust of the American people and advance our mission of safeguarding both the nation’s security, and privacy and civil liberties, at the same time.”
The remedies appear to have moved the needle. Less than 4 percent of queries were found non-compliant in an OIA audit that looked at over 500 queries conducted from July 1, 2021, through March 31, 2022.

But some argue access to the data should be further restricted.
“Even if the compliance rate were 100 percent, the government should not be able to access Americans’ communications without a warrant,” Elizabeth Goitein, co-director of the Liberty and National Security Program at the Brennan Center for Justice, wrote on Twitter.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) has repeatedly expressed a similar sentiment.
“The problem is the system can be abused. … It’s admirable to have some regulations and some checks and balances you put in place,” Paul said during a 2021 hearing.

Iran building nuke site beyond bunker busters’ reach
|
|
A nuclear facility Iran is constructing near the Zagros Mountains is so deep it is likely beyond the range of a U.S. weapon designed to destroy such sites.
Satellite imagery shows Iranian workers digging tunnels near the Natanz nuclear site in central Iran, about 140 miles south of Tehran.
Such a facility presents a “nightmare scenario that risks igniting a new escalatory spiral,” said Kelsey Davenport, the director of nonproliferation policy at the Washington-based Arms Control Association, AP reported. (Read more here)

DeSantis has made a decision about presidency
|
|
After months of buildup and speculation, Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida is officially entering the 2024 White House race. Sources familiar confirmed to Fox News that the popular, conservative governor will declare that he’s a candidate for president, on Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET during a conversation with Elon Musk on Twitter.
Along with his announcement, DeSantis is expected to file paperwork with the Federal Election Commission, which officially launches his GOP presidential campaign. His first national TV interview since the announcement will be with Fox News’ Trey Gowdy Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET on “Fox News Tonight.”
DeSantis is considered to be in the top tier of Republican nomination contenders, the report notes. (DML News) Read more here.

1. Top Israeli General Says ‘Action’ is on Horizon Over Iran Nuclear Work - Algemeiner
The top Israeli general raised the prospect of “action” against Iran on Tuesday even as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s national security adviser played down any immediate threat posed by a new underground nuclear facility being dug by Tehran.
World powers’ efforts to negotiate new curbs to Iranian uranium enrichment and other projects with bomb-making potential have been fruitless so far, fanning long-bruited threats by Israel to resort to force if it deems diplomacy a dead end.
“Iran has advanced with uranium enrichment further than ever before … There are negative developments on the horizon that could bring about (military) action,” Lieutenant-General Herzi Halevi, chief of Israel‘s armed forces, said in a speech.
He did not detail what those developments might be, nor what action might be taken and by whom. (Read more)

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited an IDF Intelligence base on Tuesday together with the head of IDF Intelligence Maj.-Gen. Aharon Haliva and additional commanders.
The prime minister received an in-depth briefing on the efforts being made in various fields regarding the Iranian threat.
He was also presented with details of the daily efforts to thwart terrorism in Judea and Samaria, and reviewed intelligence information that enabled the targeting of the senior Islamic Jihad commanders in the Gaza Strip during “Operation Shield and Arrow” earlier this month

3. MK Danny Danon: We respect the US but Israel's policy will be determined by us - Israel National News
MK Danny Danon, chairman of World Likud and Israel's former Ambassador to the UN, responded on Tuesday to a Channel 12 News report which said that the Biden administration has demanded that the Israeli government drop the judicial reform from its agenda in exchange for normalization of ties with Saudi Arabia.
"We respect our friends in the US but Israel's policy will be determined by us. Normalizing relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia is a regional interest, but we must not advance our relations in the wake of an ultimatum," said Danon.
Tuesday’s report said the Saudis are demanding the resumption of peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority as a condition for normalization with Israel, while the US was the party which raised the demand over the judicial reform in exchange for mediating the normalization talks.
Israel has been for years rumored to have behind-the-scenes ties with Saudi Arabia, but the Saudis have vehemently denied those rumors. (Read more)

4. Security Forces Kill 3, Arrest 13, Destroy Explosives Lab in Shechem Refugee Camp, Jenin - Jewish Press
A joint operation of the IDF and Border Guard fighters, under the intelligence guidance of the Shin Bet, on Monday morning thwarted a terrorist plot in the Balata refugee camp near Shechem.
During the operation in the camp, the IDF fighters became engaged in an exchange of fire and eliminated two armed terrorists. Two M-16 rifles were found on the neutralized terrorists. Local terrorists threw stones and explosives at the fighters, and in the exchange of fire that ensued, injuries were detected.
In Jenin, the security forces arrested three wanted persons. During the operation, terrorists threw a bomb and shot at the fighters, who returned fire. The fighters confiscated military equipment. During the departure of the forces from the village, terrorists threw explosives at the force, which responded by shooting. A hit has been detected. In addition, the forces fired at a gunman they identified in the area. A hit was detected.
The fighters arrested seven wanted persons in the villages of Abu Dis, Ezaria, Bnei Naim, Kalks Dora, and in the refugee camps of El Aida and Aqbat Jaber. During the departure of the forces from the village of Abu Dis, terrorists threw explosives and stones at the forces, which responded with measures to disperse rioters. During the operation in Kafr Kalkas, the forces confiscated several grenades. (Read more)

5. Saudi Arabia demands US backing for nuclear program before for peace with Israel – report - World Israel News
Saudi Arabia has demanded that the Biden administration enter a military alliance with it that would include approval for a civilian nuclear program in return for a normalization agreement with Israel, the Jewish state’s Channel 12 news reported on Tuesday.
In ongoing and “intensive” talks, the Gulf kingdom also demanded that Israel launches a peace process for a two state solution with the Palestinians, the report said.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan are leading the negotiations with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman while Mossad chief David Barnea is representing the Israeli side.
As part of the deal, Riyadh has also demanded that Washington accelerate several major arms deals. (Read more)

1. Tampa drag queen event canceled after DeSantis signs new law protecting children - Life Site
A large drag queen and “pride” celebration planned for September has been canceled by organizers due to fears it would violate the state’s new anti-lewdness law. This is the second LGBT event canceled because the organizers could not guarantee children would be protected from inappropriate sexual content.
Governor Ron DeSantis signed legislation on May 17 that authorizes the state’s business regulators to “fine, suspend, or revoke the license of any public lodging establishment or public food service establishment” that “admits a child to an adult live performance.”
“We’re protecting kids,” Gov. DeSantis said when he signed the legislation. “And we’re going to protect kids when it’s popular, we’ll protect kids even when you take some incoming as a result of maybe offending some ideologies or some agendas out there, but that’s fine.” (Read more)

2. Senate Democrats introduce bill to give federal government massive power over online platforms - Life Site News
Democrat U.S. Sens. Michael Bennet of Colorado and Peter Welch of Vermont has introduced legislation to give the federal government “comprehensive oversight” power over digital platforms, in what critics are calling a blatant threat to freedom of speech online.
Bennet’s Digital Platform Commission Act would create a new five-person body of commissioners nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate, backed by an 18-member Code Council of “experts” in various subjects including “disinformation.” The commission would have broad rulemaking, investigative, and penalizing power, ostensibly in the name of promoting public safety, access to government services, business competition and consumer protection, protection of digital infrastructure, prevention of “deceptive, unfair, unjust, unreasonable, or abusive practices,” algorithm fairness and transparency, and ensuring a “robust and competitive marketplace of ideas with a diversity of views at the local, State, and national levels.”
That last assurance is called into doubt, however, by Section 2 of the bill, which blames the current lack of federal regulation for “abetting the collapse of trusted local journalism,” “enabling addiction and other harms to mental health,” “disseminating disinformation and hate speech,” and “in some cases, radicalizing individuals to violence” — echoing common left-wing rhetoric about the expression of views and information that dissent from various left-wing orthodoxies. 3. Second Hunter Biden IRS whistleblower emerges after dismissal despite five years on case - New York Post
A second IRS whistleblower in the criminal investigation of first son Hunter Biden emerged Monday with documents sent to Congress following the purge of the entire investigatory team looking into President Biden’s son for tax fraud and related crimes.
The new whistleblower is a special agent in the IRS’s international tax and financial crimes group and worked on the Hunter Biden case since it was opened in 2018 — until he was ousted without explanation last week.
The agent joins his supervisor, who plans to testify behind closed doors before the House Ways and Means Committee on Friday, in publicly registering concerns about how the Justice Department has handled the investigation.
Both IRS whistleblowers expressed concerns internally for years about the case being swept under the rug but got nowhere, and they lay out extensive claims of retaliation in new disclosures to Congress. (Read more)

4. Major retailer holds ’emergency’ meeting over LGBTQ+ merchandise to avoid ‘Bud Light situation’ - DML News
Some southern Target stores were forced by the corporation to move LGBTQ Pride merchandise away from the front of their locations after customer “outrage” to avoid a “Bud Light situation.”
Many Target locations across the country feature massive June Pride month displays on an annual basis, with items this year ranging from “tuck friendly” bathing suits for transgender people to mugs that say “gender fluid.” But the retail juggernaut has been criticized by some conservatives for the displays, with children’s items particularly irking many customers.
A Target insider told Fox News Digital that many locations, mostly in rural areas of the south, have relocated Pride sections to avoid the kind of backlash Bud Light has received in recent weeks after using a transgender influencer in a promotional campaign.

5. W.H.O. Chief Tedros Warns of Possible Disease Deadlier than Coronavirus - Brietbart
The threat of another deadly pathogen emerging with even more catastrophic potential than the Chinese coronavirus cannot be ruled out in the future, the head of the World Health Organisation (W.H.O.) warned Tuesday.
Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told the World Health Assembly forum in Geneva, Switzerland, the possibility of another public health crisis must be addressed and not kicked “down the road.”
He also claimed that despite the darkest days of the pandemic having passed a doomsday variant with the power to rock the world back to square one could still spawn. Tedros said:

6. Western states reach 'historic' deal to help save Colorado River - Reuters
May 22 (Reuters) - Seven U.S. states that depend on the overused Colorado River on Monday reached agreement to cut consumption and help save a river that provides drinking water for 40 million people and irrigation for some of the country's most bountiful farmland.
Arizona, California and Nevada will reduce intake by 3 million acre-feet (3.7 billion cubic meters) through the end of 2026, an amount equal to 13% of their river allotment, under a deal brokered and announced by the Biden administration.
Those three make up the Lower Basin states of the century-old Colorado River Compact, which assigns water rights to them plus the four Upper Basin states of Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.
While the Upper Basin states draw their water directly from the river and its tributaries, the Lower Basin states depend on Lake Mead, the reservoir created by the Hoover Dam and whose spigot is controlled by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.
The river's long-term health is critical for the entire region, particularly for the economies of major cities such as Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Phoenix, and the agricultural industry. (Read more)

7. Target Partners with Satanist Designer Abprallen for Gay Pride Collection - Breitbart
The woke Target Corporation has partnered for its new Pride clothing line with UK-based designer Abprallen, which insists “Satan loves you” and “Satan respects pronouns.”
Among other items in its Pride line, the mega retailer carries Abprallen’s “Cure Transphobia” sweatshirt, which bears the message “Cure transphobia, not trans people.”
Abprallen mixes a good deal of satanism with its pro-LGBT activism, asserting on its Instagram page that “Satan loves you and respects who you are; you’re important and valuable in this world and you deserve to treat yourself with love and respect.”
“LGBT+ people are so often referred to as being a product of Satan or going against God’s will, so fine. We’ll hang with Satan instead,” it declares.
“So, naturally, Satan respects pronouns. He loves all LGBT+ people,” it states. (Read more)

8. EXCLUSIVE: Leaked Policy Exposes Fox News Stances on Woke Ideology - Daily Signal
Fox News employees are allowed to use bathrooms that align with their gender identity, rather than their biological sex, and permitted to dress in alignment with their preferred gender. They must also be addressed by their preferred name and pronouns in the workplace.
These are just a few of the policies outlined in the company handbook, dated January 2021, a copy of which was shared with The Daily Signal. Fox also offers to help employees come up with a “Workplace Transition Plan” to ease their gender transition at work.
The revelations comes amid conservative consternation at Fox Digital’s use of activist language like “gender affirming care” in stories on its website, as well as the site’s consistent use of female pronouns for biological males like TikTok celebrity Dylan Mulvaney and swimmer Lia Thomas (formerly known as Will Thomas).
Fox also drew strong backlash for a June 2022 on-air segment praising a child’s gender transition as an “inspiration to others.” That segment briefly depicted California state Sen. Scott Weiner, a far-left Democrat who led the move to soften sex offender registry requirements for sodomy with minors, and highlighted the activist claim that a child might commit suicide if he or she is not permitted to transition. Yes, he bought Twitter. Yes, he restored Donald Trump’s account. Yes, he is cracking down on leftists censoring conservatives on Twitter. Yes, he stood against the government propaganda on COVID. Yes, he exposed the FBI for influencing the elections. Yes, he donates money to Republicans. Yes, he says he is a champion of free speech. But there is a clue about Elon Musk that people ought to be aware of before they jump onto the bandwagon that he is a potential savior of the American ideal. Musk recently hired Linda Yaccarino as CEO of Twitter. Yaccarino was chairman of NBC Universal Sales and Client Partnerships with close ties to the World Economic Forum and the Biden Administration.
Yaccarino is a member of the World Economic Forum, an attendee at its meetings, and is listed as a “contributing expert” on some of the WEF materials. On her Linkedin page, she writes that she “rallied support from the business community, the White House, and government agencies to create a vaccination campaign, featuring Pope Francis, reaching more than 200 million Americans.” Yaccarino led the Ad Council in promoting the Biden Administration’s vaccine propaganda campaign, saying in a February 2021 release: “When the marketing and media communities come together and amplify urgent public health messages, we can be an incredible force for good.” Read More

When it comes to government spending, what is appropriate and who is entitled?
In his book, Well Versed – Biblical Answers to Today’s Tough Issues, Dr. Jim Garlow makes a thought-provoking point regarding how the government should use our tax dollars:
“Scripturally, government is to only take that which is needed for it to perform its fundamental, biblical role of executing justice against evil-doers and encouraging the growth of good (Romans 13:4). How much of the annual federal budget would fall into either of these two categories?”
A Matter of Stewardship
If we want to have a government that stewards our tax dollars in a way that honors God, then we must steward our vote in a God-honoring manner!

Mawar, strongest typhoon in decades, approaching Guam
|

The intensifying typhoon has reached Category 4 force on the Saffir-Simpson scale as it approaches Guam and the Mariana Islands, unleashing life-threatening flooding and damaging winds.
Guam and the Mariana Islands are bracing for impacts from strengthening Typhoon Mawar, which is spinning in the West Pacific. AccuWeather meteorologists say the cyclone could be the strongest in decades to impact the islands, bringing life-threatening flooding and the potential for damaging winds, this week.
The latest on Typhoon Mawar
Mawar is now a super typhoon, as designated by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, just southeast of Guam and is tracking toward the north-northwest. The north-northwest track is expected to continue into Wednesday, local time, with some additional strengthening possible. Mawar could reach a Category 5 equivalent on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale by the time it passes over Guam on Wednesday, local time.
The typhoon is forecast to impact Guam and the Mariana Islands Tuesday night or early Wednesday (Eastern Time) as a Category 4 storm, according to AccuWeather meteorologists. Read More

"We are now all locked down. Station is secure and families are home. The island is scheduled to lock down at 1pm. Rain is already quite heavy. With the last outlook it is predicted the storm will reach 140mph when it hits just 10 miles south of Merizo on Wed Morning. A couple of our staff and families who live in Merizo have decided to shelter at the office. Merizo is at sea level and they are expected 8-10 feet of surge. The office is about 150-200 feet above sea level. Please continue to pray for the island, families and station as this storm passes."

Tampa drag queen event canceled after DeSantis signs new law protecting children
|

A large drag queen and “pride” celebration planned for September has been canceled by organizers due to fears it would violate the state’s new anti-lewdness law. This is the second LGBT event canceled because the organizers could not guarantee children would be protected from inappropriate sexual content. Governor Ron DeSantis signed legislation on May 17 that authorizes the state’s business regulators to “fine, suspend, or revoke the license of any public lodging establishment or public food service establishment” that “admits a child to an adult live performance.”
“We’re protecting kids,” Gov. DeSantis said when he signed the legislation. “And we’re going to protect kids when it’s popular, we’ll protect kids even when you take some incoming as a result of maybe offending some ideologies or some agendas out there, but that’s fine. These reasonable limits to protect the innocence of children posed a problem for the Tampa “pride” event, however, which could not guarantee minors would not be exposed to sexual deviance at the massive gathering of drag queens this upcoming September. Tampa Pride President Carrie West “said drag queens perform in the open at the festival, which could be a violation of the new law,” according to WFLA.com.
