Florida Legislature Clears Way for DeSantis to Run for President Without Resigning
|
|
Florida’s Republican-led Legislature has approved a bill clarifying that Gov. Ron DeSantis may run for president in 2024 while keeping his current position.
In a party-line vote of 76-34 on Friday, the Florida House approved an amended version of SB 7050, which includes a provision that explicitly exempts anyone running for president or vice president from the existing “resign-to-run” requirements.
The bill has already passed Florida Senate by a vote of 28-12 and now heads to the governor’s desk for his signature. (The Epoch Times) Read more

California School District Approves Curriculum Accusing Israel Of ‘Ethnic Cleansing,’ ‘War Crimes’
|
|
A California school district board voted to approve two new ethnic studies courses this week that would teach high school students that Israel has committed “war crimes” and ethnically cleansed Palestinians, according to the curriculum.
The Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) approved two new courses titled Ethnic Studies: World Geography and Ethnic Studies World Histories for the upcoming fall semester. The courses push anti-Israel sentiment despite Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom of California coming out against a similar curriculum proposal last year due to its supposed antisemitic bias.
SAUSD’s World Geography course description explains that high school students will be learning about “interdisciplinary strategies that highlight the plight of peoples traditionally marginalized,” and studying the “social hegemonies between cultures of power and indigenous groups.” One such culture of “power” the course considers is Israel, specifically in the context of the Palestinian conflict in the West Bank and Gaza. First Republic Bank Teeters on Edge of Abyss
|
|
First Republic is teetering on the edge of the abyss this weekend, likely to be seized by the government after customers withdrew around $100 billion of deposits in just a few days and seeing its share price crash toward oblivion.
The San Francisco-based bank was shaken by similar factors that triggered the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank. The Federal Reserve’s rapid interest rate increases hurt the value of the bank’s assets and made its funding pricier. Depositors could. increasing earn better returns on money market mutual funds that park assets with Fed facilities, an investment many see as even safer than “money in the bank.”
Republicans will be quick to chalk this up as another Bidenflation bank failure. The Fed belatedly began to raise interest rates last year after President Joe Biden’s expansive fiscal policies helped push inflation to its worst levels in four decades. This has caused significant problems for banks to grew aggressively during the low-interest rate era that preceded the pandemic and then returned when the pandemic struck. (Breitbart) Read more

Netanyahu meets with McCarthy in Jerusalem
|
|
Close US-Israel ties make world safer, House leader tells Netanyahu
|
|
US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, in Israel at the head of a bipartisan delegation, held separate meetings on Monday with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog.
Netanyahu and McCarthy sat down at Jerusalem’s King David Hotel, and then held another meeting with the delegation of Democrats and Republicans.
In front of cameras before their private meeting, Netanyahu hailed last week’s 400-19 House vote passing a resolution supporting the bilateral relationship and the Abraham Accords to mark Israel’s 75th birthday.
“To get 95% agreement on anything today is no mean matter,” the prime minister chuckled, “and it expresses the strength of that alliance and the strength of that support.”
McCarthy said it was no coincidence that he came to Israel on his first trip abroad as speaker, because “there is no greater ally to America than Israel.” (Times of Israel)

- Father God, once again we come before Your Throne of Grace with hearts filled with joy, knowing that our nation is now blessing the nation of Israel. Lord God, we
ask in Your mercy, that you would forget and forgive any sins we have committed in the recent past in not honoring this precious nation, and help us to now build upon the new relationship that Speaker Mccarthy is setting in place this week for all American-Israeli relations. Thank You, Lord, for this new beginning, in Your Holy Name, amen and amen!
- “Do not call to mind the former things, Or consider things of the past.

2. Gantz: No progress in talks with government on judicial reform compromise - Times of Israel
National Unity party leader Benny Gantz said Monday that negotiations being mediated by President Isaac Herzog to reach an agreement on the government’s planned judicial overhaul have not borne fruit so far.
“The negotiations aren’t progressing at all on any issue, particularly not that of the Judicial Selection Committee,” Gantz said at his party’s faction meeting in the Knesset. He was referring to the coalition’s highly contentious effort to assert governmental control over the selection of judges.
“We will not allow politicians to control the appointment of judges because this amounts to political judges,” Gantz said, vowing his party will not compromise on that issue. (Read more)

3. Supreme Court: Netanyahu not in contempt of court - Israel National News
The Supreme Court today (Monday) rejected a petition calling for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to be held in contempt of court for involving himself in the negotiations on the judicial reform issue, but ordered him to obey the directive of Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara that he recuse himself from the issue in light of his corruption trial.
The court accepted Baharav-Miara's position that Netanyahu's actions did not rise to the standard of contempt of court, and stated that the petition's request did not match the situation. But it stated that all government officials and entities must abide by the rulings of the courts and the attorney general.
The Supreme Court clarified that Netanyahu remains bound by his conflict of interest agreement with former Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit as long as the court does not release him from the agreement. (Read more)

4. Justice Minister Accusing Biden Administration of Collaborating with Anti-Reform Forces - Jewish Press
Justice Minister Yariv Levin on Sunday night accused the Biden administration of collaborating with the anti-judicial reform forces on Israel’s left. In a video that was leaked to Walla, Levin also blames the failure of his legislation on Likud MKs who opposed it, but he is “determined to fight for this thing.”
In a meeting with Haredi activists at the home of Haredi strategist Yossi Rosenbaum, Levin said: “There is no doubt that we are at a truly unimaginable disadvantage. They hold the court, the AG, all the heads of the economic system, the American administration, which is working in collaboration with them on this matter, as you see from the things that are said by people from the administration.”
Levin stressed that he didn’t think anyone is behind the actions of his detractors, insisting “they are doing it from their authentic perception.” (Read more)

5. Lapid calls Haredi exemptions from IDF service ‘an open wound,’ presents own draft law - Times of Israel
Opposition leader Yair Lapid chastises the ultra-Orthodox community over the military service exemptions enjoyed by men from the sector, saying its use of political power to avoid serving in the IDF and to increase the stipends given to full-time yeshiva students is unacceptable.
Lapid speaks during a Yesh Atid faction meeting at the Knesset, against the background of ultra-Orthodox pressure on the government to pass a law codifying blanket exemptions from military service for ultra-Orthodox yeshiva students.
“This is an open wound. It cannot be that our children serve the state, endanger their lives, and you say ‘this doesn’t interest us, we have political power and we will use it to release our children [from military service] and at the same time increase [yeshiva] stipends,’” says Lapid, addressing the ultra-Orthodox community in general. 1. Montana Governor Signs Law Banning Transgender Medical Procedures for Children - Breitbart
The governor of Montana has signed into law a bill banning transgender medical procedures for children within the state.
Republican Governor of Montana, Greg Gianforte, has officially signed into law a bill banning transgender treatments for children under the age of 18.
The move has prompted outrage from left-wing politicians and media outlets, some of whom have branded the ban on what they call “gender-affirming medical and surgical care” as “tantamount to torture”, with the governor’s own “non-binary” son calling on Gianforte to drop the bill. (Read more)

2. GOP Unveils ‘Strongest Border Security Package … Ever,’ Vows House Will Pass in May - Breitbart
House Republicans rolled out a sweeping package of border and immigration bills Thursday they plan to pass the same week the Title 42 border barrier ends in May.
The package is a combination of legislation from three committees that House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) touted as “the strongest border security package that Congress has ever taken up.”
The three committees’ chairmen, Reps. Mark Green (R-TN), Jim Jordan (R-OH), and Michael McCaul (R-TX), introduced their respective components at a press conference while tearing into the Biden administration for its open borders posture, which has attracted a staggering five million illegal migrants to the southern border since January 2021, according to federal data. (Read more)
- Lord, we realize that the chances of passing this bill are difficult in the House and slim in the Senate, but You are the God of miracles. We pray that You will work on the hearts of all parties to see the problem and move to stop the flow of illegals.

3. Josh Hawley Calls on FBI to Launch ‘Full-Scale’ Probe into 85K Migrant Children Missing on Joe Biden’s Watch - Breitbart
Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) is calling on the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to launch a “full-scale” investigation into the whereabouts of 85,000 migrant children who have been released into the United States under President Joe Biden but whom the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has lost all contact with.
Since Biden took office, HHS officials have lost contact with some 85,000 Unaccompanied Alien Children (UACs) released to adult sponsors after arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border. At the same time, Biden officials have reportedly ignored warnings that many UACs are ending up in a widespread labor trafficking pipeline as well as sex trafficking. (Read more)

4. Lawmakers Tout Effort to Prevent A.I. from Launching Nuclear Weapon - Breitbart
During an appearance on FNC’s “America’s Newsroom,” Reps. Ken Buck (R-CO) and Ted Lieu (D-CA) spoke about their bipartisan effort to eliminate the possibility of artificial intelligence (A.I.) launching nuclear weapons.
According to Lieu, a panel of experts put the odds at 36% of it happening.
“Well, A.I. is here,” Buck said. “And, unfortunately, Congress hasn’t been really looking at the issue for a long time. So, I think what is absolutely essential — I am so glad that Ted brought this bill to me and included me in this bill. We want to make sure that there a human in this process of launching a nuclear weapon if at any point in time we need to launch a nuclear weapon. So you see sci-fi movies, and the world is out of control because A.I. has taken over. We’re going to have humans in this process.” (Read more)

5. Vulnerable House Republicans prepare to fend off attacks over debt ceiling vote - The Hill
House Republicans left Washington this week feeling triumphant about passing a bill that pairs a debt limit increase with steep spending cuts.
But vulnerable Republicans in battleground districts must now contend with Democrats aiming to weaponize their votes for a sweeping bill that none of them intended to be the final package.
“We are not surprised that so-called Republican moderates, who talk a good game, but at the end of the day always, always, always vote with the extremists,” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) said in a press conference on Friday. “They are going to have to answer for their hypocrisy,” Jeffries said.
Democrats have argued that the bill’s proposal to revert discretionary spending to fiscal 2022 levels would threaten programs for veterans and education; that increased work requirements for public assistance programs would hurt families; and that Republicans’ attempt to repeal green energy tax credits would threaten jobs and local economies.(Read more)
- Lord, we pray that You will undertake to bring a debt ceiling negotiation that is sound rather than the current anger-filled foolishness. We pray for a covering of wisdom, and a binding of the constant spending that fuels the inflation.
- “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.” (Proverbs 12:15)

6. NC Supreme Court Sides With GOP In Gerrymandering Case, Could Give Republicans 4 House Seats - Conservative Brief
The North Carolina Supreme Court has issued an explosive ruling to allow Republicans in the state to redraw congressional lines in a way that will heavily favor the GOP.
Republicans could potentially pick up four more seats in the U.S. House of Representatives after North Carolina’s state Supreme Court ruled in its favor, Politico reported.
“The current map, which was installed after the state Supreme Court struck down a legislature-passed map, could lead to the Republicans picking up as many as four House seats in 2024. The state Supreme Court now holds a conservative majority after elections last fall, and the court recently agreed to revisit its prior decision,” the Washington Examiner previously reported. 7. California Votes To Ban New Diesel Trucks After 2036 - Daily Caller
California regulators voted Friday morning to implement a ban on new combustion truck sales after 2036, and mandate all trucks be zero emission vehicles by 2042, significantly tightening the state’s already strict trucking emissions rules.
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) finalized the Advanced Clean Fleet rule, which would mandate that 50% of all state and local government vehicle fleet purchases be 50% zero-emissions by 2024, and 100% by 2027, and create a registry for drayage trucks. The rule — which comes one day after the board voted to implement the state’s first-ever rules to limit train emissions — would go even further than recent California rules approved by President Joe Biden’s Environmental Protection Agency, which would cut diesel truck sales in half by 2035.
The measure has received pushback from the trucking industry, which expressed concerns about electric vehicle charging infrastructure and widespread deployment, according to The Washington Post. Mike Tunnell, director of environmental affairs at the American Trucking association, told the outlet that industry actors “would rather see the technology be proven and work,” before any action was taken. (Read more)
- Father, this move will likely cause even more supply chain issues, and put many truckers out of work due to the extremely high cost of electric trucks. We ask that You not only rein in the California regulations, but bring a flood of repentance to the state.
- “The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent.” (Acts 17:30)

8. ‘I’ve Never Seen Anything Like It’: Health Officials Investigating Cases Of Brain Infections Among Kids - Daily Caller
Health officials are investigating a growing number of brain abscesses in children first noticed in Las Vegas but now rising in other parts of the country too.
Dr. Taryn Bragg, an associate professor at the University of Utah and the only pediatric neurosurgeon for the state of Nevada, began noticing a large increase in cases of brain infections among children beginning in March 2022. “I was seeing large numbers of cases and that’s unusual,” Bragg told CNN in a Friday report.
During that time, the number of brain abscesses in kids tripled in Nevada, rising from an average of four to five a year to 18, the outlet reported. As the only doctor treating the cases in the state of Nevada, Bragg took note of this unusual increase and notified public health authorities. (Read more)
- Lord, we take authority over this disease, bind it, and command it to dissipate. We pray for the children affected and ask that Your Blood be employed to heal them.

Salt And Light
The Daily Jot, Bill Wilson, May 1, 2023
There is no question we are living in a dark and dying world. Watch the news. Read about what’s happening. Look around. It’s easy to get discouraged. But if you have the light of Christ within you, you are part of a nation of priests, a holy nation, set apart to show the blessings of being called out of this darkness into the marvelous light of Christ. It’s not just a cliché. This is real life. Christ told us in Matthew 5:13 that we are “the salt of the earth.” And in Matthew 5:14 that we “are the light of the world.” Salt and light. If you are a Christ follower, you are equipped with two powerful responses to this dark and dying world—salt, which seasons and preserves; and light which illuminates and gives hope. You have it in you.
The disciples of Christ also lived in a very dark time. Their lives were threatened nearly every day for what they believed. The Roman Empire was a harsh master. There was life and death persecution. While believers in Islamic countries may suffer similar persecution, the persecution we face in Western nations is one of encroaching oppression against our beliefs. We are labeled bigots, hatemongers, all types of “phobes,” for simply believing the Bible is true. The minions of darkness take great offense that the Bible does not validate or accept their corrupted ways. They seek to minimize and oppress those who disagree. This type of persecution becomes increasingly aggressive. I am reminded of the story of Gideon. The children of Israel having done evil in the sight of the Lord, He sent the Midianites to chasten them.
After their land was destroyed and the people impoverished, the Lord heard their prayers and Gideon was chosen to deliver Israel from the Midianites. An angel of the Lord told Gideon in Judges 6:12, “The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor.” Gideon destroyed the altar of Baal, which angered the Midianites, the Amalekites and their allies, which gathered against Israel. Gideon rallied the tribes of Israel to prepare for battle. But God would let him take only 300 men to destroy the Midianites. Gideon gave them trumpets and lamps. On signal, they would blow the trumpets and light the lamps, making the Midianites think there were far more Israelites than there were. The Midianites and their allies ran, and the tribes of Israel overtook and destroyed them in their fear. Herein is the lesson: Gideon was salt and light.
The salt was the destruction of the idol of Baal, surrounding the Midianite camp, standing for righteousness in word and deed. The light was the lamps that shown brightly against the darkness striking fear in the evil Midianites. You see, we are also salt and light, as Christ said. But if the salt loses its savor, it is no good. And one doesn’t hide his light otherwise darkness prevails. As encouraged in Romans 13:12, “The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.” Don’t be entangled with the works of darkness, but be salt by standing and light in Christ, knowing all the while the promise of Christ in Matthew 28:20, “I am with you always.” And that we are “more than conquerors” through Christ. Be salt and light, bring accountability and hope. The Lord is with you. Read More

US Speaker McCarthy addresses Israel’s Knesset: Watch
|
|
|
U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Monday became the second-ever holder of his post to address the full Israeli Knesset, following in the footsteps of Newt Gingrich in 1998.
Earlier in the day, the speaker visited the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial and laid a wreath in honor of the 6 million Jews exterminated by the Nazis and their helpers during World War II.
He also met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The two men spoke one-on-one and then held an expanded meeting as part of a working lunch with a bipartisan U.S. congressional delegation.
“Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East. There’s only two countries in the world that were conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all people are equal,” noted McCarthy. (JNS.org) Read more here.

- Thank you, Lord, for the gracious welcome that has been given to our Speaker of the House by the members of Israel's Knesset. It is true that, over time, an "unbreakable bond" has been established between our two nations, resulting in blessings for both. We pray that the foundation stone that is set in place this week by Speaker McCarthy will remain strong and unshakeable in the days ahead. In Your Name we offer this prayer, amen and amen!
- Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: “Behold, I am laying a stone in Zion, a tested stone, A precious cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. The one who believes in it will not be disturbed." (Isaiah 28:16)

House Considers Federal Ban on Private Money to Run Elections
|
|
|
Eight House Republicans have introduced a bill to block the use of private money to operate elections and curb the controversial process called ballot harvesting.
If enacted, the Protect American Election Administration Act would block what the bill’s sponsors call a “private takeover of government election administration.”
The legislation, introduced Thursday, also would prevent private funding for ballot harvesting or ballot curing. (Ballot harvesting is when political operatives collect and gather large quantities of absentee ballots; ballot curing is the term used when election officials try to discern the intent of a voter’s defective ballot.)
And the bill would prevent use of local governments’ election infrastructure to conduct “ideologically motivated voter outreach campaigns.”
“It’s vital that Americans are confident that their vote is secure when they go to the ballot box,” Rep. Jake LaTurner, R-Kan., one of the bill’s eight co-sponsors, told The Daily Signal in a written statement.
“I’m proud to help introduce this commonsense legislation to ensure individuals with political agendas are not interfering with states’ voting processes and laws in an attempt to impact the outcome of American elections,” LaTurner said. “There is no place in our democratic process for the private takeover of our elections systems.”
Other House Republicans who are original co-sponsors of the legislation are Rep. Tom Cole, OK, Reps. Byron Donalds and John Rutherford of Florida, Tracey Mann of Kansas, Virginia Foxx of North Carolina, and Pete Sessions of Texas.

'Through God, All Things Are Possible':
Dolly Parton's No-Holds-Barred Comments on the Power of the Lord in Her Life
|
|
Country legend Dolly Parton recently said she always asks God to “bless everything” and everyone with whom she works, heralding the importance faith plays in her daily life. Parton, 77, reaffirmed her Christian faith in a recent Fox News interview, reiterating the beliefs she so often and candidly discusses. “My faith impacts everything that I do because I do believe that, through God, all things are possible,” Parton told Fox News. “And so I always ask God to bless everything that I do and the people that I work with and to bring all the right things and right people into my life and to take the wrong ones out.”
The iconic singer said she tries to “love through love” and emphasized the importance her faith has had on her life and career. “I just think that my spirituality has been a guiding light in my life and my strength, really, in my creative energy,” she said. “And my spiritual energy has really been a great force to keep me going all these years and still being productive.” Parton made these comments while discussing her new kids’ book, “Billy the Kid Makes It Big,” which tackles the topic of bullying. She said she’s hoping to inspire kids through the story.
As CBN’s Faithwire previously reported, Parton made similar headlines in December, when she sang her hit song, “Go to Hell,” during a Christmas special, passionately rebuking the devil on primetime TV. “Take your wars and your politics, your lust, and your greed, and go to hell in a handbasket, ’cause heaven waits for me,” she sang. “You’re a cheat, you’re a liar, you’re a scoundrel and a thief.” Parton danced and sang along with a choir as a man portraying Satan followed her around the stage. At one point, she stopped to deliver the performance’s climax: a mini-sermon directed at the devil. (CBN) Read More

All The Way my Savior Leads Me
To listen to this classic hymn, CLICK HERE
Words: Fanny Crosby
Music: Robert Lowry
Scripture: The Lamb…will lead them to springs of living water. Revelation 7:17
Lyrics:
All the way my Savior leads me;
What have I to ask beside?
Can I doubt His tender mercy,
Who through life has been my guide?
Heav’nly peace, divinest comfort,
Here by faith in Him to dwell!
For I know, whate’er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well;
For I know, whate’er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well.
All the way my Savior leads me,
Cheers each winding path I tread;
Gives me grace for every trial,
Feeds me with the living bread.
Though my weary steps may falter,
And my soul athirst may be,
Gushing from the rock before me,
Lo! A spring of joy I see;
Gushing from the rock before me,
Lo! A spring of joy I see.
All the way my Savior leads me
O the fullness of His love!
Perfect rest to me is promised
In my Father’s house above.
When my spirit, clothed immortal,
Wings its flight to realms of day
This my song through endless ages—
Jesus led me all the way;
This my song through endless ages—
Jesus led me all the way.
