US House passes pro-Israel measure 401-19, but growing number of Dems vote against

The US House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly Tuesday to pass a resolution marking Israel’s 75th anniversary, heralding the importance of the US-Israel relationship and urging the expansion of the Abraham Accords.

H.Res.311 passed 401-19, with 18 progressive Democrats opposing the measure amid growing comfort within the party to take such public stances against the Jewish state, along with protests raised by the dovish J Street lobby group over the initiative’s lack of inclusion of support for a two-state solution.

Previous resolutions introduced every five years to mark Israeli Independence Day have included mentions of the two-state solution or peace with the Palestinians. The Haaretz daily reported that Democratic congressional leadership sought to add such language but were rebuffed by Republicans, who have increasingly moved away from openly backing two states. (Times of Israel)    Read more

- Abba, we give you praise that the US House of Representatives once again passed a resolution wishing your people Israel, Happy 75th Birthday!  Lord, we give you glory that this year it does not include reference to a “two state solution” as a framework for peace with the Palestinians.  This is as it should be, you gave all this land to Abraham and his descendants.

Father God, we ask you to continue speaking truth to those in our government that are making foreign policy decisions concerning Israel. Remind them that your word tells us that you bless those who bless Israel, but you are against those who would seek to do her harm.  We ask this in Jesus’ name.  AMEN.

- “I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you, I will curse; and all the peoples of the earth will be blessed through you." (Genesis12:3)

DeSantis: ‘There’s never been a Palestinian Arab entity’

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill on Thursday to strengthen his state’s ability to combat antisemitism and emphasized that there has never been a Palestinian state in the Land of Israel or elsewhere.

The Republican politician was in Israel, where he keynoted the Celebrate the Faces of Israel event, a project of the Jerusalem Post and the Museum of Tolerance Jerusalem.

The governor said that the historic biblical heartland of Judea and Samaria should be viewed as “disputed territory,” as the Trump administration referred to it, and not as “occupied territory,” as much of the international community labels it.

“It’s disputed territory. Okay, you had a [U.N.] Partition Plan and ’48. Israel obviously declared independence, they were willing to accept that partition. The Arabs rejected the partition, they went to a war rather than accept partition,” DeSantis said at the conference.

“Those are the most historic Jewish lands there are going back thousands and thousands of years. There’s never been a Palestinian Arab entity,” he continued.

- Abba, we praise you for Gov. DeSantis’ heart for Israel and for the Florida bill he signed creating laws to better combat antisemitism. We thank you that he was willing to speak the truth, that a Palestinian state has never existed in the land of Israel, and when they were offered a partitioned parcel of land the Palestinian leaders said no and opted for war instead.

Father God, we ask that you bring this truth more and more into the public eye, to educate those who do not know and to remind those who have forgotten, that the Palestinians are walking out the consequences of their leadership’s decision.

Father, we ask that you allow your hand of protection and blessing to be seen over your land and people. We ask this in Jehovah Shalom’s name, the one who provides peace for his people.  AMEN

- "Show me the wonders of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you from their foes." (Psalm 17:7)

US CENTCOM chief arrives in Israel to discuss cooperation, joint naval activity

Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, head of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), arrived in Israel on Wednesday night for a trip focused on strengthening relations between the militaries, especially regarding naval operations.

Kurilla, who was being hosted by Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, began his trip on Thursday with a visit to the Israeli Navy’s elite Shayetet 13 commando unit.

Kurilla was briefed by the head of the unit, Cpt. “Aleph,” who can only be identified by the initial of his first name in Hebrew. The briefing focused on the unit’s operations, recent joint activity with the US Navy, and recent intelligence assessments, the IDF said. (Times of Israel) Read more

- Abba, thank you that Gen. Kurilla, head of US Central Command, met with Israeli military to share appropriate military information and to strengthen relations between the US and Israel.  We give you praise, honor and glory that the Biden‘ regime is continuing to build the military connection between our two nations, despite negative rhetoric coming from US a leadership concerning Israel’s actions of self protection and sovereignty.

Father God, we ask you to protect your people and the land.  Please allow the US to work with Israel in accomplishing all that you have planned for this alliance.  We ask you to end the constant attacks against Israel from Gaza, Syria, Lebanon and Iran.  Holy God, allow our enemies to fall into the very pit they have dug trying to put an end to your people and the US.  We ask this in the name of Jehovah Sabaoth, Host of Heaven’s Armies.
AMEN.

- "They spread a net for my feet— I was bowed down in distress. They dug a pit in my path— but they have fallen into it themselves." (Psalm 57:6)
FOCUS ON ISRAEL

1. Iran’s President Raisi to visit Syria, sign strategic economic deal this week - I24News

Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi is expected to visit Syria next week, according to a senior regional source close to Damascus.

The visit would be the first by an Iranian president since civil war broke out in Syria in 2011. With military help and economic support from both Iran and Russia, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was able to turn the tide of the conflict and regain control of most of his country.

The regional source told Reuters on Friday that a warming of ties between Saudi Arabia and Iran – as well as a thaw in Arab states' isolation of Damascus – paved the way for the visit. According to the Syrian daily al-Watan, Raisi’s trip will last two days and be capped by a string of agreements, particularly on economic cooperation.

Iran has previously provided lines of credit to Damascus and imports phosphate from Syrian mines. (Read more)

2. Iranian Foreign Minister meets Hezbollah chief - i24News

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian met with Hezbollah's chief Hassan Nasrallah to discuss the latest developments in the region, during which the two toured Lebanon's southern border with Israel, the Lebanese terror group's press office said Friday.

Iran’s Ambassador to Lebanon Mojtaba Amani was also in attendance.

Hezbollah is an antisemitic terrorist group committed to Israel's destruction and the proxy in Lebanon of the Iranian mullah regime. (Read more)

3. 'Erdogan indeed wants normalization with Israel,' former ambassador says - Israel Hayom

Turkey would like better ties with Israel but Israeli policy towards the Palestinians remains "unacceptable," Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday.

Turkey and Israel, once allies, have had a bitter falling out in recent years. Ankara has repeatedly condemned Israel's policies in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) and its treatment of Palestinians. It has also criticized recent US-brokered rapprochements between Israel and four Muslim countries.

Speaking to reporters after Friday prayers in Istanbul, Erdogan said Turkey had issues with "people at the top level" in Israel and that ties could have been "very different" if it were not for those issues. (Read more)

Iran’s foreign minister toured Lebanon’s border with Israel Friday during a visit to the Arab nation, and was documented looking out at the Jewish state his regime regards as an archenemy.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian took the tour with a number of Lebanese parliamentarians and members of the Iran-backed Hezbollah terror group, after meeting with Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah.

1. Kansas overrides Democrat governor’s veto of pro-life law protecting babies from infanticide - Lifesite News

TOPEKA, Kansas (LifeSiteNews) — Kansas Republicans have voted to override Democrat Gov. Laura Kelly’s veto of legislation to require basic medical care to babies who survived botched abortions, ensuring the new protection will become state law over her objections.

HB 2313 requires that, in the event of an infant being delivered alive after an attempted abortion, the abortionist must “[e]xercise the same degree of professional skill, care and diligence to preserve the life and health of the child as a reasonably diligent and conscientious healthcare provider would render to any other child born alive at the same gestational age” and “ensure that the child who is born alive is immediately transported to a hospital.”

It also requires failure to do so to be “immediately” reported to law enforcement. Those who commit abortions anyway would be guilty of a “severity level 1, person felony” and would potentially be liable for civil damages if brought by the mother. Facilities that fail to report violations would be subject to fines.

Kelly vetoed the measure earlier this month, claiming it would “interfere in medical decisions that should remain between doctors and their patients” while existing law already protected newborns. Pro-lifers called the move “heartless” and “inhuman.” (Read more)

- Thank You for the Republican override of this legislation which will become law to give babies basic care of a botched abortion.

- "And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them." (Mark 10:16)

2.  Over 80 Prescription and OTC Meds Recalled Due to Safety Concerns, FDA Warns - Best Life

The contents of your medicine cabinet can range from helpful daily vitamins to essential prescriptions and everything in between. Whether it's taking care of aching muscles, tackling a sudden bout of the flu, or dealing with a chronic condition, many people rely on these items to help them stay on top of their health and improve their quality of life. But before you reach for your next dose, you may want to take a moment to check what you have on hand. That's because over 80 prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) meds were just recalled due to safety concerns. Read on for more information and to determine if you're at risk.

On April 26, the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced that Illinois-based Akorn Operating Company LLC had issued a voluntary recall for a wide range of its lineup of medicinal products, including OTC meds, prescription drugs, and pet medical products. The company says the items were distributed nationwide to wholesalers, retailers, manufacturers, medical facilities, and repackagers online to consumers.

In total, 75 items intended for human use are affected, including all lots of items such as artificial tears, lidocaine ointment, lorazepam oral solution and injection vials, vitamin D drops, olopatadine nasal spray, and sodium chloride eye drops, among others. The complete list of items is posted on a seven-page document on the agency's notice. (Read more)

- We pray for the safety of our medicines! May the FDA find the problem and have a solution.

- "Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7)

3. President Erdogan Suspends Election Campaign after Collapsing on Live TV - The Jewish Press

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is facing the toughest challenge of his political life, running neck and neck with challenger Kemal Kilicdaroglu – 44 to 44 percent as of Thursday. And Thursday night was possibly the worst in Erdogan’s career when he started choking during a live TV interview. The camera was quickly turned away from the suffering president to a blank, orange wall, and the feed was promptly cut.

Erdogan reappeared 20 minutes later to apologize for the incident, saying he had been suffering from “serious stomach flu” that contributed to his exhaustion after intense campaigning. He later tweeted: “Today I will rest at home upon the advice of my doctors,” and “With God’s permission, we will continue our campaign from tomorrow onwards.”

Turkey’s presidential vote will take place on May 14 and will include, in addition to voters in Turkey, migrant Turks living in Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, and Luxembourg. If neither candidate wins 50% of the votes, there would be a run-off election two weeks later. (Read more)

- We pray over the Turkish elections. May Your will be done in this election. We know Turkey is a major player in the end times, and we pray events happen according to Your time line.

- "Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." (Matt. 6:10)

4. US and South Korea agree key nuclear weapons deal - BBC

The US and South Korea have secured a landmark deal to counter the North Korean nuclear threat. Washington has agreed to periodically deploy US nuclear-armed submarines to South Korea and involve Seoul in its nuclear planning operations. In return, South Korea has agreed to not develop its own nuclear weapons.

The Washington Declaration will strengthen the allies' co-operation in deterring a North Korean attack, US President Joe Biden said.

Concern has been rising on both sides about the nuclear threat posed by North Korea. Pyongyang is developing tactical nuclear weapons that can target South Korea, and refining its long-range weapons that can reach the US mainland. The South Korean President, Yoon Suk-yeol, who was at the White House for a state visit, said the Washington Declaration marked an "unprecedented" commitment by the US to enhance defence, deter attacks and protect US allies by using nuclear weapons.

China - clearly not pleased with the US stance - warned against "deliberately stirring up tensions, provoking confrontation and playing up threats". (Read more)

- We pray success over this landmark deal to counter the North Korean nuclear threat. We pray protection over South Korea.

- "But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one." (2 Thessalonians 3:3)

5. US confiscates Iran oil cargo on tanker amid Tehran tensions - Jerusalem Post

The US confiscated Iranian oil on a tanker at sea in recent days in a sanctions enforcement operation, three sources said, and days later Iran seized another oil-laden tanker in retaliation, according to a maritime security firm.

As oil markets remain jittery, the cargo seizure is the latest escalation between Washington and Tehran after years of sanctions pressure by the US over Iran's nuclear program. Iran does not recognize the sanctions, and its oil exports have been rising.

Tehran says its nuclear program is for civilian purposes while Washington suspects Iran wants to develop a nuclear bomb.

Maritime security company Ambrey said the US confiscation took place at least five days before Iran's action on Thursday. "Ambrey has assessed the seizure by the Iranian Navy to be in response to the US action," it said in an advisory to clients. "Both tankers were Suezmax-sized. Iran has previously responded tit-for-tat following seizures of Iranian oil cargo." (Read more)

- We pray over these tensions with Iran! Give us a course of action to take when Iran seizes oil-laden tankers in retaliation. May we take a tough stance on Iran's actions.

- “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me." (John 14:1)
6. South Korea’s support crucial to US if China invades Taiwan - Center for Security Policy

The support of South Korea is absolutely crucial to the United States in the event of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan, according to veteran intelligence officer and author, Grant Newsham. He said that if China invades Taiwan, it is vital that South Korea would allow the United States to deploy its forces on the Korean peninsula as part of contingency operations.

Newsham said that in a Taiwan-invasion scenario, he expects that North Korea would either attack South Korea or, alternatively, cause enough trouble that the South Koreans will be forced to deal with it. “America doesn’t need any more distractions, doesn’t need to be worried about what’s going on on the Korean peninsula,” Newsham told NTD Good Morning on April 25.

“But also it really is essential to have a South Korea that is at least supportive of the free nations that are trying to defend Taiwan. And that’s very important politically, as well. If it was a leftist administration in South Korea, you’d see something very different. They’d probably be telling the Chinese ‘Well, we don’t really take a position,’ and implicitly saying: ‘Have a go at it,’” he said.

“So that’s how important it is to have … an administration in South Korea, which actually values democracy, consensual government, and the things that the free world value. So [South Korean President] Yoon is a real breath of fresh air from an American perspective,” he added. (Read more)

- We pray favor with South Korea, and they would grant their support to the US forces if China invaded Taiwan.

- "Remember me, O Lord, when you show favor to your people; help me when you save them." (Psalm 106:4)

US House speaker arrives in Israel, to address Knesset

U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) arrived in Israel on Sunday, where he will meet with top officials and become the second-ever holder of his post to address the full Knesset.

McCarthy is leading a 20-member delegation of Republican and Democratic lawmakers.

He was received at Ben-Gurion Airport by his Israeli counterpart Amir Ohana and then traveled directly to the Western Wall in Jerusalem before heading to the Knesset for a formal dinner.

“Israel, you are a blessed nation,” McCarthy wrote in the Western Wall visitor book, adding: “Our shared values unite a bond that will never break.”

On Monday, the speaker will visit the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial and lay a wreath in honor of the 6 million Jews exterminated by the Nazis and their helpers during World War II. (JNS.org) Read more

- Father God, we are now in tears of JOY to know that the Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy, will address the Knesset today in honor of Israel's 75th Anniversary! Lord God, Holy One, as You gaze down from heaven upon this event, we ask that You would show Your mercy to our nation; and that this action would serve to REVERSE THE BIBLICAL CURSE from Israel, sown by the recent actions toward that land rendered by the current administration.

We repent again that this administration has meddled in the internal affairs of the nation of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in many, many ways since the New Year. Forgive us, O Lord, we pray; and help the shaking we have endured to begin to slowly subside and to come to an end. In Your Name we offer this prayer, Abba, amen and amen!

- "I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” (Genesis 12:3)

BREAKING!!

Senate GOP blocks Equal Rights Amendment

Senate Republicans on Thursday blocked a measure that would have allowed the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) to be added to the Constitution. Senators voted 51 to 47 to invoke cloture on a motion to proceed, falling short of the 60 votes it needed.

Sens. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and Susan Collins (Maine) were the lone Republicans to vote with every Democrat.

The ERA passed Congress in 1972, having been first proposed in 1923. Constitutional amendments, under U.S. law, must be ratified by three-quarters of all state legislatures, meaning 38 states.

In 2020, Virginia became the 38th state to ratify the ERA, but it did so after the 1982 deadline to ratify the amendment had passed.

The Senate resolution would have removed the deadline so that the ERA could become the 28th Amendment. Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) and Murkowski were the resolution’s lead co-sponsors. (Read more)

- Thank You that this amendment was blocked by the Senate to add this to the Constitution.

> > > A special note to our readers:

We want to thank all of you for the fast action you took in praying to see this Amendment STOPPED in the Senate.

Last week, on Wednesday, April 26th, we notified you that this bill was to be voted on during, Friday, April 27th. With next to no time available to call our own senators, we simply prayed using the Sword of the Spirit, trusting our God to move on our behalf. And praise God, our prayer was answered! Thank you, everyone; and we praise God for this victory!

- "Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." (Ephesians 6:17)

Kansas enacts sweeping transgender ‘bathroom bill’

Republican legislators in Kansas on Thursday enacted what LGBTQ rights groups have characterized as one of the most sweeping and restrictive transgender bathroom bills in U.S. history, overriding Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly’s veto of the measure.

The Kansas House voted 84-40 Thursday to override Kelly’s veto of Senate Bill 180, which defines sex in state law to mean an “individual’s biological sex, either male or female, at birth.” The Senate voted 28-12 on Wednesday to do the same.

The measure, which will take effect July 1, also legally defines women as individuals “whose biological reproductive system is developed to produce ova” and men as individuals “whose biological reproductive system is developed to fertilize the ova of a female.”

It declares that “distinctions between the sexes” in certain spaces “are substantially related to the important governmental objectives of protecting the health, safety and privacy of individuals in such circumstances.” The new law applies to school restrooms, locker rooms, prisons, domestic violence shelters and rape crisis centers. Army Grounds All Non-Critical Aircraft Following Deadly Helicopter Crash

The U.S. Army has ordered an aviation stand-down following the latest in a series of deadly helicopter crashes that, since March, have killed 12 soldiers.

Army Chief of Staff Gen. James McConville ordered a 24-hour stand down for all aerial operations except critical missions, according to an Army statement released on April 29.

“The move grounds all Army aviators, except those participating in critical missions, until they complete the required training,” the statement reads.

The order calls for all active-duty units to be subjected to the 24-hour stand down at some point next week, while the Army National Guard and Reserve units will have until May 31 to carry it out. Read more  (Source: Epoch Times)

- Father God, we thank You that our military has taken this action. We ask that those who are investigating the causes of these crashes would be graced with Your wisdom and skill; and that any and every defect in these aircraft would be identified quickly and corrected. Amen.

HOUSTON WE HAVE A PODCAST

Transcript
Gary Jordan (Host): Houston, we have a podcast! Welcome to the official podcast of the NASA Johnson Space Center, Episode 286, “The Entire History of NASA.” I'm Gary Jordan, I'll be your host today.

On this podcast we bring in the experts, scientists, engineers, astronauts, usually to talk about human spaceflight but you know what, why limit ourselves, right? NASA has a rich and storied history. Its beginnings, people often forget, was in aviation: the NACA, or National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, laid the groundwork for how we think about a national space program.

And it's more than just humans flying in the air and in space. NASA has programs that extend from our home planet to the farthest reaches of the universe. It's hard to capture everything that NASA has done since its formation, but there's a new e-book that does a pretty good job. This e-book is published on NASA.gov right now, and it's called “NACA to NASA to Now: The Frontiers of Air and Space in the American Century.” It came out very recently, and it captures some of the most significant moments and programs of NASA's history and puts it into one concise volume. It's a great read, full of narratives and layers that help to demonstrate how widespread NASA's efforts are.

Lucky for us, we were able to chat with the book's author, Roger Launius, formerly NASA's chief historian and the associate director for collections and curatorial affairs at the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. Roger talks about the inspiration for writing the book and walks us through some of the key moments. Very much looking forward to this conversation. Let's get right into it. Enjoy.

Nearer my God to Thee

Words: Sarah Adams
Music:  Lowell Mason

Scripture: He saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to Heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. Genesis 28:11–12

Lyrics:
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee!
E’en though it be a cross that raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be, nearer, my God, to Thee.

Refrain
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee!

Though like the wanderer,
The sun gone down,
Darkness be over me, my rest a stone.
Yet in my dreams I’d be nearer, my God to Thee.

Refrain

There let the way appear,
Steps unto Heav’n;
All that Thou sendest me, in mercy given;
Angels to beckon me nearer, my God, to Thee.

Refrain

Then, with my waking thoughts
Bright with Thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs Bethel I’ll raise;
So by my woes to be nearer, my God, to Thee.

Refrain

Or, if on joyful wing
Cleaving the sky,
Sun, moon, and stars forgot, upward I’ll fly,
Still all my song shall be, nearer, my God, to Thee.

Refrain

There in my Father’s home,
Safe and at rest,
There in my Savior’s love, perfectly blest;
Age after age to be, nearer my God to Thee.

Refrain
