Nuclear arsenals grow as global arms race takes shape - analysis
|
|
A report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) said on Monday that “the number of operational nuclear weapons started to rise as countries’ long-term force modernization and expansion plans progressed.”
The increase in nuclear arsenals has raised eyebrows in the Middle East and other regions. Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons and continues to enrich uranium.
According to the report, there are nine countries with declared nuclear arsenals around the world. Unlike in the wake of the Cold War, when some believed that nuclear arms races were a thing of the past, today countries are modernizing nuclear arsenals. On the one hand, this may make the arsenals more safe. However, it is clear there is also an arms race potential as the US seeks to confront near-peer rivals such as Russia and China; and as countries weigh how to deal with Iran’s nuclear program. Trump aide Walt Nauta also indicted in classified documents case
|
|
Walt Nauta, an aide to Donald Trump, has been indicted on federal criminal charges connected to the former president's alleged mishandling of classified documents.
Nauta was hit with six charges including conspiracy to obstruct, withholding a document or record and scheme to conceal, according to the federal indictment that was unsealed Friday afternoon.
Nauta, Trump's butler and body man — whose legal bills are being paid by a Trump political organization — had come under scrutiny by investigators over his shifting accounts of whether he moved boxes of documents at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida at his urging. REPORT: Trump-Appointed Judge To Initially Oversee Federal Case
|
|
U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, who was appointed to the bench by former President Trump, will initially oversee his federal case, ABC News reported Friday based on sources familiar with the matter.
Judge Cannon was involved with Trump’s case prior to his indictment, granting him in September his request for a “special master” to review the classified documents taken from his Mar-a-Lago estate. An appeals court later overturned Trump’s special master request after the Justice Department appealed Cannon’s ruling.
Cannon was appointed by Trump in May 2020 and confirmed by the Senate that November to be the U.S. district judge of the district court for the southern district of Florida. The court maintains jurisdiction over federal cases in the southern part of Florida. (Daily Caller) Read more |

Dozens of Chinese aircraft enter Taiwan air defense zone
|
|
Taiwan detected 37 sorties by Chinese military aircraft into its air defense identification zone Thursday, the island's Defense Ministry said.
The ministry said that it detected Chinese J-11 and J-16 fighters and H-6 bombers, as well as transport and early warning aircraft, flying into the southwestern part of Taiwan's ADIZ starting at 5 a.m.
Some of the planes continued flying into the western Pacific and "carried out aerial surveillance and long-distance navigation training," the ministry said in a statement.
Taiwan scrambled aircraft and ships and activated shore-mounted missile systems to monitor the large-scale incursion, Beijing's latest in a steady stream of provocations that Taipei calls "gray zone" warfare meant to strain the island's defense capabilities and wear down its morale. 1. Coalition Offering Deal to Opposition, Justice Minister Contemplating Resignation - Jewish Press
Ahead of Wednesday’s election of MKs to serve on the Committee to Appoint Judges, the coalition plans to offer a deal to opposition leaders Yair Lapid and Benny Gantz: electing Yesh Atid MK Karin Elharar as the opposition’s representative on the committee, in exchange for the opposition’s support on curbing both the judges’ consideration of reasonableness and the authority of the government ministries’ legal counselors, Maariv reported Monday morning.
Meanwhile, according to Israel Hayom, Justice Minister Yariv Levin sounded particularly discouraged on Sunday, and coalition members who spoke with him said that he is in “total despair.”
According to the second report, Levin expressed a complete lack of interest in the committee and said: “I’m not interested in the committee. As far as I’m concerned, having two opposition representatives would be better. That way they’ll understand that we’re a joke, that’s how we’ll illustrate the magnitude of the absurdity that we are in power, but we’re not promoting this matter.” (Read more)

2. Lapid to testify at Netanyahu trial Monday, bringing political rivalry to courtroom - Times of Israel
Opposition leader Yair Lapid is set to begin his testimony on Monday in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s criminal trial, in what is expected to be an exceptional scene where a politician will give evidence against his main opponent in court.
Lapid, chair of the centrist Yesh Atid party, is a key witness in what police call Case 1000. His testimony is set to last three days and will relate to his involvement while serving as finance minister under Netanyahu in 2013.
In return for gifts from Israeli Hollywood mogul Arnon Milchan and others, prosecutors say, Netanyahu sought legislation to extend by a further decade an existing 10-year tax exemption for returning Israelis on income earned abroad — which could have saved Milchan millions of dollars. (Read more)

3. Police bust drug ring smuggling tens of millions of shekels of cocaine disguised as syrup - World Israel News
Israel Police announced that they had seized a significant quantity of cocaine, valued at tens of millions of shekels, after it was illicitly transported into the country concealed within bottles of almond syrup.
A statement released by the police over the weekend revealed that individuals hailing from the Arab Israeli towns of Qalansawe, Tira, and another village in the Galilee region had been apprehended in connection with the case. The suspects were scheduled to appear in court the following day for a remand hearing.
The contraband, which originated from South America, had been discreetly hidden within some 180 bottles of syrup, comprising a total volume of 140 liters.
The success of the bust was the culmination of an undercover investigation spanning several months, which also involved activities conducted beyond the borders of the country, according to the police. (Read more)

5. Hezbollah fans flames of Israeli border tensions - JNS
Tensions continued along Israel’s northern border this weekend as Lebanese civilians, encouraged by Hezbollah, tried to prevent the IDF from carrying out engineering work for a concrete border wall—inside Israeli territory.
Disturbances at the Lebanese border village of Kfar Chouba, on the slopes of Mount Hermon, began after morning prayers on Friday as residents tried to prevent Israeli bulldozers from working.
Lebanese residents crossed the barbed wire fence erected by Israeli soldiers and threw stones at the soldiers who were compelled to disperse them with tear gas.
Although the IDF engineering work is taking place on the Israeli side of the border and the land in question was captured from Syria, residents of Kfar Chouba and other villages claim the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) is failing to stop alleged violations of Lebanese sovereignty by the IDF. 1. Discord Leaks: Saudi Leader (MBS) Promised ‘Major Economic Consequences’ for Biden Threats - Breitbart
The Washington Post on Thursday said it was in possession of a purportedly classified document, among the many such items exposed in a trove shared on the video game social network Discord, that captured Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) expressing his extreme frustration with the Biden administration and vowing “major economic consequences for Washington.”
The FBI arrested a 21-year-old member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard, Jack Teixeira, in April in relation to the documents surfacing on Discord. Teixeira allegedly obtained a number of sensitive, and sometimes explosive, classified documents and shared them on Discord, apparently to impress other members of his video game discussion group. Teixeira was arrested about a month after some of his Discord buddies began tossing his classified documents around to impress people in other forums, drawing unwelcome media attention.
Few of the documents have been either confirmed in their authenticity or disputed beyond a reasonable doubt. Some have proven embarrassing to the U.S. and other governments.
The Washington Post said it has been sitting on “scores” of “secret documents” that have not yet been made public, so the Discord Leak saga is still in progress after three months. If the latest Discord Leak story is accurate, there might be some fallout in Washington and Riyadh.

3. Biden’s DHS Extends Parole for Afghans in U.S. Amid Widespread Vetting Failures – Breitbart
Despite widespread vetting failures, President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is offering parole extensions to tens of thousands of Afghan nationals who were resettled across the United States in 2021 and 2022.
Following the U.S. Armed Forces’ withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021, Biden opened a refugee pipeline that has resettled more than 86,000 Afghans in American communities — many without having been screened or interviewed in person beforehand.
On Thursday, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced that the administration will begin offering Afghans the ability to renew their parole for a year as well as a two-year extension for those who have continuously claimed asylum. (Read more)

4. MEHLMAN: Democrats Unveil Massive New Amnesty Bill for 75% Of Illegal Aliens – Daily Caller
Rewarding illegal immigration by granting mass amnesty has traditionally been a tough sell with the American public. So, the marketing strategy for amnesty advocates is to sell the American people on the idea that millions of illegal aliens are actually doing us a favor by being here, and that granting them legal permanent residence is the least we can do to thank them.
New legislation in Congress aims to fulfill our “debt” to illegal aliens who are defined as essential to our economy. “Every day, over five million essential workers without permanent legal status kept Americans healthy, fed, and safe during the COVID pandemic—all while risking their own health and the health of their families,” declared Sen. Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), who is sponsoring the Citizenship for Essential Workers Act.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), another sponsor of the bill, was even more explicit in defining the amnesty measure as the fulfillment of an obligation. “The Citizenship for Essential Workers Act recognizes all that essential workers have given and will create a fair and accessible pathway to citizenship,” she said. 5. Native American tribe plans protests, considers suing Biden admin over oil-leasing crackdown - MSN
The president of the Navajo Nation told Fox News Digital that he has ordered the tribe's attorney general to weigh legal action following the Biden administration's oil-leasing ban impacting Navajo citizens.
Buu Nygren, the president of the Navajo Nation, a federally recognized tribe in the U.S. southwest, said that the Navajo Justice Department was considering pursuing litigation after Interior Secretary Deb Haaland's recent order, and he plans to protest her upcoming visit to the reservation on Sunday. Last week, Haaland banned oil, gas and mineral leasing within 10 miles of the Chaco Culture National Historical Park in northwestern New Mexico for 20 years, an action strongly opposed by nearby Navajo communities.
"To totally disregard those local communities — it's unfair," Nygren told Fox News Digital in an interview Saturday. "There's no need to celebrate putting people into poverty, to celebrate undermining the Navajo Nation's sovereignty, undermining everything that comes into working with tribes, in this case, Navajo Nation." 6. California Bill Would Classify Not Affirming Child’s Transgenderism As ‘Child Abuse’ – Daily Wire
A recently amended California bill would classify not affirming a child’s gender identity by one or both parents as “child abuse.”
AB 957 was introduced into the California legislature by Assemblymember Lori Wilson (D-Suisun City) and state Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco). The bill rewrites much of the state’s family law and classifies “a parent’s affirmation of the child’s gender identity as part of the health, safety, and welfare of the child.”
The bill amends Section 3011 of the Family Code, which deals with child custody disputes, and requires that a court determining the “best interests” of the child must consider affirmation of transgender identity. If a parent were to deny the child’s “gender identity,” it would be a violation of the child’s health, safety, and welfare — equivalent to child abuse.
Because the bill changes the definition of what constitutes the “health, safety, and welfare” of a child, any organization interacting with children — including schools, churches, and hospitals — would be required to affirm gender transitions in minors.

7. U.S. To Spend Millions To Push Green Energy Transition In Caribbean – Daily Wire
The U.S. is planning to spend millions of taxpayer dollars to push a renewable energy transition in the Caribbean, according to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The announcement came from Vice President Kamala Harris during a trip to the Bahamas, where Harris announced a planned total of $100 million in aid to the region, including $20 million for “transitioning to Renewable Energy and Addressing Climate Change Impacts in the Caribbean.”
“To support the region’s transition to renewable energy and increase energy efficiency, working with Congress and subject to the availability of funds, USAID intends to provide $20 million in funding to companies with financial and technical assistance and business development services through the Caribbean Climate Investment Program,” according to USAID.
The initiative will also form the Blue-Green Investment Corporation, which will work with Barbados, the Green Climate Fund, and private sector entities to form a “green bank.” The purpose of the bank will be to “finance projects such as climate resilient housing, renewable energy, clean transportation, and water conservation firstly in Barbados, and later expanding to other Caribbean countries.” (Read more)

8. Joe Biden referred to as 'big guy' in dealings with Ukraine, FBI record reportedly reveals – Washington Examiner
President Joe Biden was referred to as the “big guy” by the Ukrainian oligarch who owned the Hunter Biden-employing energy giant Burisma, sources say an FBI record reveals.
Mykola Zlochevsky, the Ukrainian owner of Burisma, was the "foreign national" involved in the alleged "criminal bribery scheme" detailed in an FBI confidential human source form, and Zlochevsky referred to Joe Biden as the “big guy” during a conversation a number of years before the June 2020 date of the bureau form, according to sources familiar with the FBI record who described its contents to the Washington Examiner.
The sources told the Washington Examiner that the Ukrainian oligarch discussed an alleged bribe of $5 million to Joe Biden and of $5 million to Hunter Biden, according to the paid FBI informant who said he heard this from Zlochevsky. The sources said Zlochevsky said he believed it would be difficult to unravel the alleged bribery scheme for at least 10 years because of the number of bank accounts involved.
Zlochevsky’s alleged reference to Joe Biden as the “big guy” appears independent of the apparent reference to the now-president as the “big guy” by a Hunter Biden business associate during negotiations with Chinese intelligence-linked businessmen. The China-related reference occurred in a May 2017 email not made public until October 2020.

We live in very divisive times. It seems that we as a society have lost what it means to be neighborly and agreeable. If there is the slightest disagreement on issues or worldview, there is an immediate assumption that the person is an enemy. We see it every day in the headlines. This division is apparent on news programs, in politics, even in and quite possibly, especially, in the church. People are vocal about it. Disagreement shows up in social media, sometimes in the most vile of terms. Then when the offender is called out on their rant, they try to say they didn’t mean it the way it came across. But words have meaning, and we as followers of Christ must weigh them with care.
In Luke 6:45, the Lord said, “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth that which is evil; for of the abundance of his heart his mouth speaks.” Leviticus discusses a leprosy-like condition called tzara’at. Those who spoke evil of another would break out in tzara’at. They had to go to the priest for repentance and healing. Called lashon hara, meaning “evil tongue,” speaking evil of someone, slandering them, libeling them, passing gossip, were all forbidden by the Lord God. Moses, when he told God that the people wouldn’t believe that God had sent him, turned white with tzara’at for speaking evil about God’s people. Miriam was also stricken with tzara’at when she spoke critically of Moses. This is very serious, especially for leaders. Read More

Energy Secretary Admits Making False Statement About Stocks;
Barrasso Calls It ‘a Troubling Pattern’

President Joe Biden’s (D) Energy Secretary, Jennifer Granholm, admitted in a letter Friday to making a false statement about not owning individual stocks.
The Biden official’s letter was issued to Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee officials, and Fox News noted she divested from different stocks in 2021.
She revealed in the document that she kept shares of six companies, but she had testified under oath on April 20 that she sold all shares with individual companies. (Breitbart) Read more.

More Chinese Spying

In recent days, there were disturbing reports that communist China was setting up a massive spying operation in Cuba. The Pentagon denied the reports, calling them “inaccurate.” But now, they are singing a somewhat different tune.
Over the weekend, administration officials admitted the initial report wasn’t accurate because the communist Chinese have had spying facilities in Cuba for several years. That explanation isn’t any better!
Clearly, last week’s remarks about “inaccurate” reporting were nothing more than an effort to deceive the American people. The statement was intended to lead us to believe that there was no communist Chinese threat coming out of communist Cuba, when in fact the threat has existed for several years.
Why would the Biden Administration try to deceive the public by being so dishonest? The answer is clear. They are worried communist China won’t talk to us after they just rescheduled high-level meetings that were canceled in the wake of Beijing’s spy balloon fiasco and they don’t want anything to upset those meetings.

Speaking on Fox News this weekend, Rep. Michael Waltz (R-FL) put it bluntly. He said our leaders must be clear with the American people in explaining the danger from communist China. Waltz said:
“We are in a new Cold War with China. . . They're using every element of national power, diplomatic, informational, military, economic, and espionage to replace us as a global leader. . . When you see ‘Made in China,’ put it down. . .
“We have some of our most sensitive military bases actually, in Florida. Our Special Operations command, our Central Command responsible for the Middle East, our Southern Command, responsible for all of Central America, and a long-range missile test range that is in the Gulf of Mexico, where we test some of our most sensitive missiles. All of that can be collected by this base in Cuba. . .
“They own the ports on both sides of the Panama Canal. The Chinese have a major space monitoring facility in Argentina. . . They have 16 major port projects across South and Central America. They’re even investing billions into Jamaica. . . They are rolling in like a freight train and this administration is asleep at the switch.”
Once again, the weakness of the Biden/Harris Administration is on full display.

Philippines volcano spews lava in gentle eruption, thousands warned to be ready to flee

LEGAZPI, Philippines – The Philippines' most active volcano was spewing lava down its slopes on Monday, prompting officials to warn tens of thousands of villagers to be prepared to flee from their homes if the gentle eruption turns into a violent and life-threatening explosion.
More than 13,000 people have left the mostly poor farming communities within a 3.7-mile radius of Mayon Volcano's crater in mandatory evacuations since volcanic activity increased last week. But an unspecified number of residents remain within the permanent danger zone below Mayon, an area long declared off-limits to people but where generations have lived and farmed because they have nowhere else to go.
With the volcano beginning to expel lava Sunday night, the high-risk zone around Mayon may be expanded should the eruption turn violent, said Teresito Bacolcol, director of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology. A Tampa-based nonprofit is on the ground in Kherson, Ukraine, rescuing residents impacted by the collapse of the Kakhovka dam. Project Dynamo, a combat-veteran-led international rescue organization, has been in Ukraine since Russia invaded in February 2022 and primarily works in the occupied areas. "The bulk of our operations have been in the south, we've done a lot of things in the east also, but about 80% or more of our operations have been in Russian-occupied Ukraine, in the southern provinces, in the southern oblasts," co-founder Bryan Stern told Fox News Digital.
Stern’s team has already completed dozens of operations close to the Kakhovka dam and is working on setting up more maritime operations in Kherson. Moscow and Kyiv have accused each other of blowing up the dam and a hydroelectric power plant, forcing thousands of residents to flee their homes due to massive flooding. The World Data Center for Geoinformatics and Sustainable Development, a Ukrainian nongovernmental organization, estimated that nearly 100 villages and towns would be flooded. The retired Navy officer said the organization is in dire need of more boats and a jet ski to continue their rescue operations. People interested in donating can visit ProjectDynamo.org.
