Houston bids good riddance to Beryl by Monday night. Where is the deadly storm heading next?

|
Like a zombie staggering blindly in search of sustenance, Tropical Storm Beryl refused to dissipate Monday and would likely continue terrorizing more of the United States with its damaging winds and heavy rainfall, according to the latest forecast track from the National Hurricane Center.
Twelve hours after a 4 a.m. landfall Monday in Matagorda, about 85 miles south-southwest of Houston, Beryl was a weakening tropical storm, wielding maximum sustained winds of 45 mph, but still producing flash flooding and tornadoes over East Texas and western Louisiana, the hurricane center said.
As of 4 p.m. Monday, the rotating center of Beryl — a storm believed to be responsible for at least two Texas deaths — was in the Piney Woods just west of Lufkin, or about 110 miles north of Houston, and heading north-northeast at 16 mph.
The hurricane center’s projected path for Beryl takes the storm deeper into East Texas, from Nacodoches to Marshall and entering the southwest corner of Arkansas by 1 a.m. Tuesday. Even at this point, Beryl was expected to still be a tropical depression, which is an extremely weak tropical cyclone, but still capable of producing winds as strong as 38 mph.
The 1,300-mile projected track for Beryl continues northeast, crossing Arkansas all day Tuesday and reaching Terre Haute, Indiana, by 1 a.m. Wednesday. Beryl would then reach Toledo, Ohio, later that afternoon before swinging east into Lake Erie. Its tour of the Great Lakes region passes Toronto, Canada, through Lake Ontario around 1 a.m Thursday and approaches the Canadian capital of Ottawa by Thursday afternoon. (Houston Chronicle)

Biden’s ABC interview does nothing to quell the existential crisis around his campaign
|

President Joe Biden’s struggle to prove he’s got the strength and cognitive capacity for a second term is becoming an excruciating personal and national ordeal.
Watching a visibly aged Biden answer frank questions Friday about his health on primetime television – which would normally remain between a patient and their doctor – felt like an affront to presidential dignity. It was sad to see a person who’s respected and beloved by many Americans suffer such a plight. And it would be a hard heart that did not empathize with Biden as he confronts the painful human realities of aging in the most public manner imaginable.
Yet Biden’s position, his shocking presidential debate performance and his defiant refusal to contemplate its implications for his reelection campaign, mean he’s forcing the country to have the conversation.
The political tide may be turning against Biden, but the interview underscored his deep pride in a presidency that it took him nearly half a century to achieve. And he’s not close to giving up his lifelong mantra to stand up and fight when he’s knocked down – a factor that will exacerbate the Democratic Party’s dilemma.
While his interview performance was far stronger than the president’s often incoherent showing at the CNN debate in Atlanta, that’s not saying much. It did not contain any new disasters that would push him immediately out of the race. But it equally did little to quell the storm assailing his campaign and raised fresh intrigue about his health amid increasing signs his Democratic power base is beginning to crack. Trump-backed GOP platform draft drops call for federal abortion ban, opposition to homosexual ‘marriage’
|
|
MILWAUKEE (LifeSiteNews) — Representatives of former President and presumptive Republican White House nominee Donald Trump proposed on Monday a dramatically shortened Republican Party platform that removes the GOP’s longstanding support for federal preborn protections as well as the party’s opposition to homosexual “marriage,” confirming fears voiced in recent days by social conservative leaders about the party drifting leftward under its current standard-bearer.
Last updated in 2016, the official position of the 58-page Republican Party platform is to “support a human life amendment to the Constitution and legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to children before birth.” It also declares that “[t]raditional marriage and family, based on marriage between one man and one woman, is the foundation for a free society” and calls for that understanding to be reflected in law, including by the “reversal” of the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2015 Obergefell ruling that forces all 50 states to recognize homosexual “marriage.”
On Monday, however, the Washington Post reported that Trump aides have submitted to the Republican National Committee’s platform committee a 16-page draft written largely by former Trump assistant Vincent Haley that drops the condemnation of Obergefell and any discussion of homosexual “marriage” at all, and while it preserves opposition to men in women’s sports and taxpayer funding and promotion of “gender transitions,” it reportedly “stops short of seeking to bar parents from seeking medical treatment [i.e., ‘sex changes’] for minor children.”
Drawing the most attention is the proposed new passage about abortion:
We proudly stand for families and life. We believe that the 14th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States guarantees that no person can be denied life or liberty without due process and that the states are, therefore, free to pass laws protecting those rights. After 51 years, because of us, that power has been given to the states and to a vote of the people. We will oppose late term abortion while supporting mothers and policies that advance prenatal care, access to birth control, and IVF (fertility treatments [sic]).
As feared by pro-life and social conservative leaders in recent days, while giving lip service to the Fourteenth Amendment, the new language drops support for federal pro-life action in favor of leaving the issue to the states (despite the Amendment expressly tasking Congress with enforcing its provisions). It also endorses birth control (many common methods of which function as abortifacients) and embryo-destructive in vitro fertilization.
Committee members will review the language on Monday before voting on proposed amendments on Tuesday, but pro-lifers are also sounding the alarm about the Trump campaign’s move to block journalists and cameras from this week’s platform deliberations.
“We reach consensus by presenting our ideas and playing by the rules. And I am very concerned about closing down the process,” Family Research Council president Tony Perkins said. “The Republican Party should not be operating as we point out the left so often does — wanting to silence opposition.” (LifeSite News) Read more here.

1. IDF says it struck Hamas, PIJ operatives gathered at school in central Gaza - Times of Israel
A group of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad operatives gathered at a school in central Gaza’s Nuseirat were struck by Israeli fighter jets earlier this evening, the IDF says.
According to the military, the operatives were carrying out “terror activity” from within the school and “using it as a shield for terror.”
The IDF says it used precision munitions in the strike to mitigate harm to civilians. (Read more)

2. IDF strike southern Lebanon following Hezbollah rocket attacks on Israel - Jerusalem Post
After 12 hours of quiet, Hezbollah launched a barrage on northern Israel, hitting various towns in the North, the IDF announced on Monday, adding it had responded to the barrage by targeting Hezbollah's infrastructure.
Fighter jets hit areas near the towns of Maroun al-Ras, Ayta ash Shab, and Houla in southern Lebanon, targeting military buildings and infrastructure.
No casualties were reported from the Hezbollah strikes earlier in the day. (Read more)

3. Katz to press for action against Iran at DC NATO summit - JNS
Foreign Minister Israel Katz departed for Washington on Sunday night to represent Jerusalem at a NATO summit marking the 75th anniversary of the military alliance.
While the title of the conference, which takes place from Tuesday until Thursday, is “Ukraine and transatlantic security,” Katz said before departing that he would bring attention to the Iranian threat.
“I am going to Washington tonight to represent the State of Israel with one clear goal: to warn dozens of leaders and foreign ministers that they must stand up now with full force and determination against Iran,” he said, according to the ICE news portal.
“The Iranian drones and missiles that are attacking Ukraine and threatening Europe are the same Iranian drones and missiles that tried to hit Israel on April 14. We have a common enemy and that is the Iranian regime,” he said. (Read more)

4. ‘The next step may be the capital’: Airstrike on Baalbek a warning to Hezbollah - World Israel News
Israel’s airstrike killing Hezbollah air defense commander Meitham Mustafa Altaar in Baalbek was a message to Hezbollah.
“The attacks carried out by the IDF in the town of Baalbak in eastern Lebanon, a distance of over a hundred kilometers from the northern border, are a serious Israeli signal to Hezbollah,” a high-ranking Israeli military official told TPS-IL. “The next step may be capital.”
While Israeli airstrikes have hit Baalbek in the past, Saturday night’s attack was the first to deliberately target a Hezbollah figure there.
Following the strike, Hezbollah launched more than 60 missiles and drones at northern Israel. Sirens were sounded in the area of Tiberias, a rarity, which the military official said showed the sensitivity of the Altaar’s assassination. (Read more)

5. Anti-Israel Group Planning Protest in Front of Michigan Holocaust Museum - Algemeiner
An anti-Israel organization is planning to hold a protest in front of a Holocaust museum in Michigan to “end genocide” and “stop US-Israel war crimes,” referring to the Jewish state’s military campaign against Hamas terrorists in Gaza.
The group, Coalition Against Genocide, released a graphic calling on its supporters to assemble in front of the Zekelman Holocaust Museum on July 14 to demand a ceasefire in Gaza and an end to Israel’s supposed “genocide” of Palestinians. The graphic draws parallels between the ongoing war in Gaza and the Holocaust — a comparison that many Jewish leaders have decried as false and antisemitic.
“Never again for anyone,” the graphic says.
“Stop US-Israel war crimes,” the graphic adds.
News of the planned protest circulated like wildfire on social media, with critics calling the event “pure antisemitism” and “political propaganda.” The Michigan chapter of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) shared on X/Twitter that it is “working with the Zekelman Holocaust Museum and local authorities to address safety and community concerns.”

In an interview meant to dissuade Democratic panic, President Joe Biden appeared to be in complete denial that his campaign is in a tailspin.
Biden sat down with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos for a pre-recorded interview which aired Friday to reassure voters that he is mentally and physically capable of being president. While insisting that his debate performance was just a “bad night,” the president went on to deny that he is trailing in polls and that his approval rating is historically poor for an incumbent seeking reelection.
“Do you really believe that you’re not behind right now?” Stephanopoulos asked the president.
“All the pollsters I talk to tell me its a toss up, its a toss up. And when I’m behind, there’s only one poll that I’m really far behind, CBS poll and NBC – I mean, excuse me, and uh…” Biden started.
“New York Times and NBC have you about six points behind in the popular vote,” Stephanopoulos interjected.
“That’s exactly right. New York Times had me behind before anything having to do with this race and behind ten points. Ten points they had me behind. Nothing’s changed substantially since the debate and the New York Times poll,” Biden finished.

2. White House Scrambles to Shut Down Reports of Medical Emergency and Press Blackout on Air Force One – Western Journal
After a disastrous debate appearance and a discouraging follow-up interview, it seems anything negative about President Joe Biden’s health and cognitive capabilities can be reasonably believed.
Perhaps this is why reports of a medical emergency on Air Force One went viral so quickly.
The first report was posted Friday evening to the social media platform X.
“I just received a tip from an anonymous source,” Tim Sharp wrote in his the post. “My source says that Joe Biden is currently experiencing a medical emergency on Air Force One as I type this.”
Twenty minutes later, a much bigger account seconded the report.
Laura Loomer followed Sharp’s post, adding that reporters were removed from the presidential plane after Biden fell ill.
“ Joe Biden is reportedly having a medical emergency on Air Force One right now,” Loomer wrote.
“Press access has been removed.”
Monica Crowley, a former assistant secretary of the U.S. Treasury Department, echoed the reports minutes later.
Her post was quoted by Sen. Mike Lee of Utah, who said the reported emergency raised “a lot of questions.”
Loomer’s post alone has been seen over 14 million times. Adding in the views on both Crowley’s and Lee’s posts, the total count soars to over 20 million.
Over an hour after the original report, a top White House official scrambled to put out a denial of the rapidly-spreading posts.
Andrew Bates, White House senior deputy press secretary and deputy assistant to the president, said reports of a medical emergency were “100% false.”

3. Multiple ranking Democrats on House committees want Biden to step aside -Fox News
Democrats met behind closed doors Sunday as pressure mounted on President Biden to drop out of the race. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., held a virtual meeting with ranking Democrats on House panels Sunday afternoon.
Fox News learned that multiple Democrats on House committees expressed concerns about the viability of Biden continuing to run for re-election against former President Trump.
Fox is told the consensus among most Democrats on the call who suggested Biden should abandon the race was that the party should focus on Vice President Kamala Harris as a potential successor. (Read more)

Comer reveals White House physician was involved in Biden family business deals, demands he testify.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer is demanding that the White House physician appear before Congress to answer questions on President Biden’s "declining mental state," while also revealing that the doctor has been involved in the Biden family’s business dealings.
Fox News Digital obtained the letter Comer, R-Ky., sent to Dr. Kevin O’Connor on Sunday. Comer is seeking to question O’Connor, given his "connections" with the Biden family, on whether he is "in a position to provide accurate and independent reviews of the President’s fitness to serve."
Comer wants to know whether O'Connor's medical assessments of the president have been improperly influenced by his work with the Biden family with the company Americore.

5. Evacuations Ordered as US Wildfire Spreads, Cause Still Under Investigation - WND
Firefighters made progress Friday against a California wildfire that triggered extensive evacuation orders, but damage assessments raised the number of destroyed structures to 25, and forecasters said heat and fire risk were expanding on the West Coast.
Containment of the Thompson Fire near the Butte County city of Oroville rose overnight from 29 percent to 46 percent, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. The fire was measured at just under 6 square miles after only slight growth overnight.
Most evacuation orders covering about 17,000 people were lifted Thursday.
Firefighters “did a really good job yesterday” enforcing containment lines, and wind hasn’t been a factor, said Cal Fire Capt. Alejandro Cholico, a fire spokesman.
A new blaze dubbed the French Fire erupted Thursday evening and triggered evacuations in the small Gold Rush town of Mariposa in the Sierra Nevada foothills along a highway leading to Yosemite National Park.
Bulldozers and crews built a line across the entire eastern side of Mariposa as flames spread over 1.3 square miles before fire activity moderated. (Read more here)

In 2012, Christian singer and songwriter Matthew West released the song “Forgiveness” that quickly rose to number two on the Hot Christian Songs chart. The song was inspired by a mother who forgave a drunk driver that killed her 20-year-old daughter. In it, West talks about the true liberty in forgiveness. He sings, “Help me now to do the impossible. Forgiveness. It’ll clear the bitterness away. It can even set a prisoner free. There is no end to what its power can do. So, let it go and be amazed by why you see through the eyes of grace. The prisoner that it really frees is you. Forgiveness. Forgiveness. Forgiveness. Forgiveness.” We all have had times where the hardest act is forgiveness. The Bible gives many examples.
Forgiveness can be informed by the story of Joseph, whose brothers were so jealous of him that they threw him in a pit and eventually he was sold into Egyptian slavery. To save themselves from famine, the brothers went to Egypt to buy food, where Joseph had been put in charge of all of Pharaoh’s dealings. Long story short, after testing the brothers, who didn’t recognize him after 20 years, Joseph gave them supplies as Joseph was the one responsible for managing the famine. After their father Jacob’s death, Joseph’s brothers feared that there might be pay back for the suffering they had caused him. They sent a message to Joseph that their father had given them an order before he died to ask Joseph to forgive them and not take revenge for the wickedness they had done to him. Read More

Michigan State Capitol Sent Threatening Pro-Palestinian Bomb Threat, Same as Penn., Staffers Think Its Another FBI Plot

Earlier today the Gateway Pundit reported that the Pennsylvania State Capitol was being evacuated because of an email bomb threat ‘in the name of Palestine.’
Now we can confirm that the Michigan State Capitol, both House and Senate, has received the same threat, and staffers are openly wondering and worrying if this is yet another FBI False Flag event meant to distract from Democrat Joe Biden's horrible poll numbers.
State Rep. Steve Carra (R), told the Gateway Pundit that, if this threat is real, it demonstrates a continued pattern of far-left political violence.
"The radical left threatens death and destruction in an attempt to get their way and plants operatives at conservative rallies to incite violence, making it look like conservatives are extremists. Then government and the mainstream media pushes their narrative over the truth."
Rep. Carra continued by saying, if this were to be found to be yet another federal operation or instigated by the FBI, that it "is treasonous activity and quite frankly it’s repulsive that mainstream media aids and abets this dangerous behavior by peddling disinformation narratives instead of reporting on facts."

In the United Kingdom, conservatives are out and liberals in. In France, conservatives are rising and liberals diminishing. In fact, most of Europe has taken a turn to the right this year, including the EU itself. People everywhere are expressing frustration with their present leadership — whichever direction it leans. Dissatisfaction with incumbents is now a global phenomenon.
Zachary Basu and Dave Lawler wrote in Axios on June 6, “Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been described as the most popular leader in the world, but even he was humbled by election results this week. He’ll keep his job, but without an outright majority. Last week in South Africa, the long-ruling African National Congress suffered its worst performance since the end of Apartheid. Ruling parties from South Korea to Senegal have suffered recent defeats.”
In just the last few days there have been increasing calls for the resignation of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. In Iran, where choices are greatly limited, people just elected the most reformist candidate available to them. The world over, people want change.
Then there is the United States. Here, the incumbent president faces a growing rebellion among leaders of his own party. Some have openly questioned his competence to run for reelection. US, Canadian Students Visit Israel; Learn How to Better Fight Antisemitism on Campus

JERUSALEM, Israel – North American Jewish and Christian students visited Israel recently for a closer look at the impact of war. CBN News spoke with them about their impressions and about the antisemitism many are facing back home. The students have felt the weight of dealing with anti-Israel protesters and antisemitism on their campuses while advocating for Israel. Columbia University student Joshua Shain told CBN News, "I'm not going to pretend it's easy. It's a lot tougher than I would like it to be." The students met with Knesset member Danny Danon, who pledged Israel's solidarity. "We are at war here in Israel, fighting Hamas and Hezbollah, but also those brave students are at war on the campuses in North America," Danon said.
Michael Eglash, head of Take Action for Israel Mission, believes these students needed a personal experience in Israel to help them in their work back home on campus. "Not too long after October 7th, we saw that there was a tremendous need to bring student leaders, pro-Israel student leaders, both Jewish and non-Jewish, to Israel to see firsthand the terrible atrocities and to bear witness to what happened," Eglash explained. He expects the students to be better equipped for their mission to take action for Israel. We're giving the tools and the techniques and the content and the knowledge – plus the strategies and the confidence and resilience – to go back and stand up for Israel on campus, Eglash asserted.
