Top Republicans are gearing up to investigate the Hunter Biden case. Here’s what to know
|
|
The Republicans who lead three key House committees are joining forces to probe the Justice Department’s handling of charges against Hunter Biden after making sweeping claims about misconduct at the agency.
Leaders of the House Judiciary, Oversight and Accountability, and Ways and Means committees opened a joint investigation into the federal case into President Joe Biden’s youngest son days after it was announced last month that he will plead guilty to the misdemeanor tax offenses as part of an agreement with the Justice Department.
Reps. Jim Jordan of Ohio, James Comer of Kentucky and Jason Smith of Missouri have since issued a series of requests for voluntary testimony from senior officials at the Justice Department, FBI and Internal Revenue Service as they investigate what they claim is improper interference. Republicans have also requested a special counsel review of supposed retaliation against the whistleblowers who came forward with the claims. (AP News) Read more here.

EXC: DOJ Removed ‘International Sex Trafficking Of Minors’ From Areas Of Concern.

The Department of Justice erased content from its webpage on child sex trafficking that highlighted the plight of “international sex trafficking of minors” in late May.
The stunning revision comes amidst scrutiny of President Joe Biden’s continued incitement of mass migration via America’s porous southern border – a prime avenue for child sex trafficking – and also coincides with the recent release of the film “The Sound of Freedom.”
The Department of Justice’s (DOJ) webpage chronicling what constitutes child sex trafficking and how the department is combatting it underwent severe revisions on May 12th, 2023, including the erasure of the three sections: “International Sex Trafficking of Minors”; “Domestic Sex Trafficking of Minors,” and “Child Victims of Prostitution.”
The webpage belongs to the Criminal Division of the DOJ, which outlines the “subject areas” the department’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Services focus on. It was previously updated under the Trump administration on May 28th, 2020.

Biden: This is one of the most extreme Israeli governments I've seen
|

The current Israeli government is one of the most extreme US President Joe Biden has ever seen, he said in an interview with CNN on Sunday.
"This is one of the most extreme cabinets I've seen and I go back to Golda Meir," he said, referring to the fact that he has been in US politics since Meir was Israel's prime minister in the early 70s.
Biden also said that Israel and Saudi Arabia are a long way from a normalization agreement that would involve a defense treaty and a civilian nuclear program from the United States. (Jerusalem Post) Read more here.

1. 'Day of Disturbance' protests continue into the night; Aviv Geffen briefly detained - Israel Hayom
Thousands of protesters blockaded Israel's main airport and highways on Tuesday as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu'scoalition pressed ahead with a justice bill that has opened the deepest splits seen in the country in decades.
A day after parliament passed a key element in the bill, which aims to curb the power of the Supreme Court, crowds of flag–waving protesters stopped morning traffic in major intersections and on highways nationwide. Some lay down on roads, while others threw flares.
Police on horseback deployed among hundreds of demonstrators in Israel's business hub, Tel Aviv. At the entrance to Jerusalem, officers used a water cannon to disperse some protesters and dragged others away by force. At least 66 people were arrested, police said. (Read more)

2. 'Day of Disruption': Police evacuate 'Tent City' - Israel National News
Demonstrators against the legal reform kicked off their "Day of Disruption" events this morning (Tuesday) following cancellation of the reasonablenesscause in its first reading in the Knesset last night.
About 30 protestors set up a "tent city"at the HaSira Intersection in Herzliya, burned tires, lit flares, and blocked vehicle before police arrived at the scene.

3. ‘Open-Air Panopticon’: UN Special Rapporteur Alleges Israel Has Imprisoned Entire West Bank - Algemeiner
The UN’s Special Rapporteur for Palestine on Monday issued a report alleging that all of the West Bank and Gaza is now an open-air prison.
Citing the work of French postmodernist philosopher Michel Foucault, Francesca Albanese’s report says that “the Israeli regime has turned the occupied territory into a ‘panopticon.’”
“Israel’s military occupation has morphed the entire occupied Palestinian territory into an open-air prison, where Palestinians are constantly confined, surveilled and disciplined,” Albanese said in a statement accompanying the report. “Mass incarceration serves the purpose of quelling peaceful opposition against the occupation, protecting the Israeli military and settlers, and ultimately facilitating settler-colonial encroachment.” (Read more)

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahustated at the conclusion of the discussions at the Ministerial Committee for Arab Society Affairs on Tuesday that the government wants to "narrow the gaps and achieve full integration of the Arab society in Israel.
"We discussed topics such as credit, education, Hebrew [language], welfare, legislation, and many other issues.
"We also have a special focus on combating crime in Arab society, which is endangering the lives of Arab citizens of Israel. It is a national problem. 5. ALERT!! Terror target in Azerbaijan was Israeli embassy - World Israel News
The state security services of Azerbaijan arrested on Monday an Afgani citizen suspected of planning a terrorist attack on the Israeli embassy in Baku.
The Azeri authorities are reportedly working in close cooperation with their Israeli counterparts after detaining Pavzan Musa Khan, 23, on the street outside the embassy, which is located in one of the towers of the Hyatt hotel complex in the capital city.
In their announcement of the arrest, they said that Khan had contacted potential co-conspirators to carry out the attack. He helped buy explosives and other weapons as well as conducting extensive surveillance of the area.
His aim, they said, was to murder innocent people and cause damage to property “in order to destabilize the social stability of the country, create panic among the population and influence the decision-making of the state authorities and international organizations.” (Read more)

1. Biden declares state of emergency in Vermont due to flooding - Washington Examiner
President Joe Biden has declared a state of emergency in Vermont due to severe flooding that has wreaked havoc on the area. The storms, which have affected states across the Northeast but have been especially acute in Vermont, have caused flash flooding, flight delays, and severe damage, exceeding the levels seen during Hurricane Irene in the summer of 2011.
Biden made the emergency declaration while on his visit to Vilnius, Lithuania, for the NATO summit. Biden's action authorizes the Federal Emergency Management Agency "to coordinate all disaster relief efforts which have the purpose of alleviating the hardship and suffering caused by the emergency on the local population, and to provide appropriate assistance for required emergency measures," the White House announcement said. 2. Hard-line conservatives threaten to vote against appropriations bills if demands aren't met - Washington Examiner
Over 20 conservatives sent a letter to Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) saying they would vote against appropriations bills if they don’t meet a list of their demands.
The signees of the letter included House Freedom Caucus Chairman Scott Perry (R-PA) and Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) and 19 other hard-line conservative members detailing a list of requirements they must see met for them to support the 12 appropriations bills.
“We therefore write to inform you that we cannot support appropriations bills that will produce a top-line discretionary spending level barely below the bloated FY 2023 level (already grossly increased by the lame-duck omnibus spending bill we all vehemently opposed a mere six months ago) and effectively in line with the cap set by the debt ceiling deal that we opposed and was supported by more Democrats than Republicans,” the letter reads.
The members say they must see all appropriations measures enacted at fiscal 2022 levels “without the use of reallocated rescissions to increase discretionary spending above that top-line.” (Read more)

3. Honduran Drug Dealers Love San Francisco’s Immigration Laws - The Daily Caller
Honduran drug dealers have flocked to San Francisco because of the city’s lax immigration laws, several of them told the San Francisco Chronicle.
San Francisco’s sanctuary city status, which shields illegal immigrants from deportation in some cases, has brought Honduran drug dealers to the area, according to two Honduran drug dealers who spoke with the Chronicle. San Francisco has seen a more than 40% increase in overdose deaths between January and March, with most occurring in the Tenderloin district and South of Market neighborhoods of the city, Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office said in April.
“The reason is because, in San Francisco, it’s like you’re here in Honduras,” one Honduran drug dealer told the Chronicle. “The law, because they don’t deport, that’s the problem. … Many look for San Francisco because it’s a sanctuary city. You go to jail and you come out.” (Read more)

4. Dem State rep. calls members of parents’ rights group ‘a–holes,’ compares them to terrorists - DML News
A Democrat state representative in New Hampshire called members of Moms for Liberty “a–holes” and compared them to terrorists, as the up-and-coming parental rights group rises in influence.
“A–holes with casseroles, taliban in minivan,” state Rep. Catherine Sofikitis said in a charged Twitter post about the group Sunday, garnering dozens of quote tweets condemning the tweet.
Sofikitis, who was first elected to the state House of Representatives in 2016, received backlash from the New Hampshire Republican Party for the tweet, calling the comments “disgusting.” (Read more)

5. China Expands Influence in U.S. Backyard with Planned Military Training Facility in Cuba - CBN News
As part of its greater military and economic designs on Latin America and the Western Hemisphere, China has built a signals intelligence facility at Bejucal, Cuba, just 90 miles from the US mainland. It allows China to monitor US military communications throughout the southern United States.
When its existence was first reported last month, the Pentagon denied it.
Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder, a spokesperson for the Pentagon, said that the time, "We are not aware of China and Cuba developing any type of spy station." Later, National Security Council Spokesman John Kirby evaded, but admitted the base exists.
"We're not going to be able to get into too much detail about our own counterintelligence efforts," he remarked. We now know that not only is there a Chinese spy base in Cuba, but it isn't new. A former intelligence official told the Miami Herald that it's been there since 1992, and the U.S. government has known about it. (Read more)

6. Demi Lovato Under Fire for New Pro-Abortion Song, 'Swine' - Christian Headlines
Pop singer and former Disney actress Demi Lovato is facing backlash for her new song touting abortion. Lovato released the profanity-laced song and music video titled "Swine" late last month, one year after Roe v. Wade was overturned.
Lovato also likened women who have abortions to the victims of the Salem Witch Trials. "We gotta grow 'em, we gotta raise 'em, we gotta feed and bathe 'em," Lovato sings. "And if you won't, they call you a witch to burn at the stake in Salem/Thought by now they'd change, but we're still waiting/Let's give these [plural expletive] hell."
As of Friday, the song has over 640,000 views on YouTube. It was released two weeks ago. A supporter of the prominent pro-life organization Live Action posted a response video denouncing the song. "This is a terrible song, and the lyrics were written to reduce a woman to her body. Demi, do you really think that the only thing women are good for is sex, to please others, and to be pleased? Are we not valuable human beings that should respect [ours and our children's bodies]?" the young woman in the video said. (Read more)

7. 'Sound of Freedom' Hits $40M, Resonating With Viewers That 'God's Children Are Not for Sale' - CBN News
Faith-based thriller "Sound of Freedom" has officially sealed its place as the unlikely box office hit of the summer scoring $40 million in its opening week. After becoming the number one film in America on July 4th, the film finished at the number 3 spot over its first weekend, right behind Walt Disney's "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny."
"Sound of Freedom has taken on a life of its own. 8. Surgeon Admits Performing Transsexual Surgeries on Young Children - Breitbart
A pro-transgender university surgeon says he is performing irreversible sex surgeries on pre-pubescent children who have had no experiences of sexual feelings and little ability to consent or accomplish the required post-surgical procedures.
“It’s a very complicated issue,” Dr. Blair Peters, a Canadian-trained “queer” surgeon at Oregon Health & Science University, told a friendly interviewer. “But I think definitely something that we’re going to learn a lot more about in the next five to 10 years as we’re doing just increasing numbers of these cases,” Blair said in the now-archived video.
Many of these medical problems are mentioned in accounts by young people who go through the surgeries, such as “Jazz” Jennings.The surgeons know little about the long-term outcomes of the experimental surgery on children, according to Blair, who describes himself as a “queer” surgeon:

The White House Cocaine Mule

Cocaine was found in the highly secure and closely monitored West Wing of the White House. The White House invoked the Hatch Act to avoid answering whether the cocaine could belong to Hunter or Joe Biden. The Hatch Act primarily prohibits “employees from engaging in partisan political activity while on duty, in a federal facility or using federal property.” Later, White House Press Secretary Jean-Pierre responded to reporters asking the same question, “to ask that question is actually incredibly irresponsible. And I’ll just leave it there.” She said that neither the President nor family members were at the White House when the cocaine was found. It doesn’t matter when the Bidens were there, but if the cocaine is theirs.
Thursday, July 6, Deputy White House Press Secretary Andrew Bates was asked, “You know, former President Trump has made some pretty wild posts recently on social media. One of them was that the cocaine found in the White House had belonged to either the President or his son. Are you willing to say that that’s not the case, that they don’t belong to them?” Bates responded: “I don’t have a response to that because we have to be careful about the Hatch Act.” He then pivoted to talking about how the Trump campaign must be facing increasing frustration because of Trump’s record of failures against the middle class where Biden has succeeded. Bates couldn’t answer whether the cocaine was Biden’s because of the Hatch Act that prohibits partisan politics, but he can bash the Trump campaign. Either way, he dodged the question. Read More

Volcano erupts in Iceland after weeks of earthquakes
|
|
|
A volcanic eruption south of Iceland’s capital Reykjavik is sending plumes of smoke across a region known for its sweeping lava fields, volcanoes and geothermal activity.
The Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO) said the “minor” eruption began Monday in Iceland’s Reykjanes Peninsula but no ash has been emitted and so far no disruption has been reported at the country’s Keflavik Airport.
The IMO said there was a 200-meter (656 feet) long fissure on the slopes of the Litli Hrútur mountain, “from which lava is emerging as a series of fountains.”
Scientists had warned of possible eruptions after hundreds of minor earthquakes were detected in recent weeks.
Photos show streams of lava flowing along the dark fields, with small fires in the distance and thick smoke billowing in the air.
Since the eruption took place in an uninhabited area, there were no “immediate risks” to communities or infrastructure, the IMO said – but it warned people not to venture near the area, saying there will be an accumulation of “dangerously high levels of volcanic gases.”
The wind will carry some of these gases north, potentially affecting several areas including the Icelandic capital, the IMO said.
The Reykjanes Peninsula regional destination management office also issued a warning about gas levels on Monday. Read More

Satanic Temple Loses Lawsuit to Overturn Texas Abortion Ban
|
|
Mary Anne Pazanowski, Legal Reporter for Bloomberg Law, put it succinctly: “Satanic Temple Bounced From Texas Abortion Law Challenge.” This week the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas rejected its lawsuit, according to Bloomberg Law. The court described the lawsuit as cryptic and noted the lack of basic facts about plaintiff “Ann Doe’s” standing to sue. Specifically, the court said the Satanic Temple’s complaint “was too spare and cryptic to support its standing to sue Texas Health and Human Services Executive Commissioner Cecile Young or overcome her sovereign immunity on its claims for violations of the First Amendment’s free speech, free exercise, and establishment clauses,” Pazanowski wrote.
The lawsuit amended an earlier version that “challenged state informed consent laws, including a waiting period requirement and another requiring that a pregnant mother be given the opportunity to hear her unborn baby’s heartbeat and see the child’s image on an ultrasound,” according to Micaiah Bilger. Then, in December, after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. The Satanic Temple “initially filed the lawsuit in 2021 against Texas Health and Human Services Executive Commissioner Cecile Young based on religious freedom and free speech grounds,” Bilger reported. For years, the Satanic Temple has been suing to challenge pro-life laws in various states, but so far, all of its lawsuits have failed. In 2020, a federal appeals court rejected its attempt at challenging a Missouri informed consent law. In 2019, the Missouri Supreme Court dismissed another one of the Satanic Temple’s lawsuits. But every time it loses, it tries again with a new approach. Its plan is to challenge pro-life laws based on the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), which ensures the government does not unnecessarily interfere with people’s religious freedom.
