City of Wichita holds prayer vigil for Flight 5342 crash victims
|

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Mayor Lily Wu called the greater Wichita community together Thursday for a prayer vigil for those killed in Wednesday night's plane crash in Washington, D.C., and their families and friends. Hundreds came out to City Hall, many of them faith leaders themselves, but also just average Kansans who felt the need for a little communal comfort in light of this loss. They prayed and sang together, and held a moment of silence. All led by members of the Greater Wichita Ministerial League. “Our arms are extended...compassion, care and love, because we are one Wichita. We are coming together to undergird those families, those persons which now are reflected with the number of 67," Rev. Dr. Pamela Hughes Mason said.
Speakers urged attendees to hold onto a sense of hope for themselves and others. “This is a time right before the greatest dark. It is our duty and our privilege to light a small candle, a small flame, which will push away a lot of darkness," said Rabbi Schmulik Greenberg from Chabad of Wichita. They also called for unity, not to let race or politics, or anything else divide us in these trying times. "Do you know the world is watching Wichita, Kansas? Let us be a light of hope, showing the love of Christ in ways that draw us to one another," Rev. Ben Staley with Chapel Hill United Methodist Church said. Plane Carrying 64 Collides With Military Helicopter Near Reagan Intnl Airport
|

All flights at the airport have been temporarily halted.
Search and rescue teams are searching for survivors after a regional passenger plane carrying 64 people collided with a Black Hawk military helicopter and crashed into the Potomac River in Arlington, Virginia, near the Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) on Wednesday night.
American Airlines confirmed there were 60 passengers on board and four crew members.
“There is no confirmed information on casualties at this time,” the D.C. Police Department said in a 9:56 p.m. post on X.
The department said in a separate statement that “A multi-agency search and rescue operation is underway in the Potomac River after aircraft crash.”
According to the FAA, at around 9 p.m. local time, American regional airline PSA Airlines’ American Eagle flight 5342 from Wichita, Kansas, collided with “a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter while on approach to Runway 33 at Reagan Washington National Airport.” Read more |

Jesse Romo, director of airports at the Wichita, Kansas, airport where the American Airlines passenger flight originated, said in a Thursday morning press conference that there were no known abnormalities with the plane at takeoff: “To our knowledge, everything occurred as normal.”
Trump Immediately Appointing Acting Commissioner to FAA
President Donald Trump said during a Jan. 30 White House press briefing that he will immediately appoint Christopher Rochelle, a 22-year-veteran of the agency, as acting commissioner to the Federal Aviation Administration. The president said the agency “must have only the highest standards for those who work in our aviation system.”

President Donald Trump gave a briefing from the White House on Thursday about the deadly crash near Reagan National Airport.
Trump called the crash a “real tragedy” and said local, state, and federal officials have been mobilized for a “massive search and rescue mission.” “Sadly, there are no survivors. This was a dark and excruciating night in our nation's capital and in our nation's history, and a tragedy of terrible proportions,” he added.
Hegseth Says Helicopter Pilots Were Using Night Vision Goggles
Newly sworn-in Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth spoke from his office in Washington on Thursday morning to provide an update on the midair collision near Reagan National Airport. 1. Arbel Yehoud, Gadi Mozes, 5 Thais, freed amid mayhem in Khan Younis; Agam Berger released - Times of Israel
Eight hostages abducted during the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel were released by Palestinian terror groups on Thursday under an ongoing ceasefire deal with Hamas, returning to Israel after 482 days in captivity in Gaza. Seven of them were freed in a long, chaotic process in southern Gaza’s Khan Younis that prompted fury in Israel.
The three Israelis are IDF surveillance soldier Agam Berger, 20, and civilians Arbel Yehoud, 29, and Gadi Mozes, 80. The Thai nationals are Thenna Pongsak, Sathian Suwannakham, Sriaoun Watchara, Seathao Bannawat, and Rumnao Surasak.
Yehoud, Mozes and the five Thais were released in an uncontrolled and dangerous handover early Thursday afternoon, outside the destroyed home of slain Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, surrounded by hundreds of masked gunmen and large, seething crowds. (Read more)

‘I don’t see any change in the man himself,’ Omer Dostri, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s spokesman, told The Jerusalem Post at the start of an exclusive interview, when asked whether US President Donald Trump’s second term would be different from his first.
“His statements continue to show strong support for Israel. There are people in his administration who are very pro-Israel, very hawkish in our favor. We expect a sympathetic government and are happy to cooperate – we can achieve great things with him in the Middle East.”
The Post met with Dostri just days before he departed for Washington, accompanying Netanyahu for meetings with Trump and senior officials in the new administration.

3. Netanyahu’s office says Israel received guarantees on avoiding mobs in future releases - Times of Israel
Israel says it has received a guarantee from mediators that scenes of chaos at a handover of hostages in Khan Younis earlier today will not be repeated in future releases, after reports indicated that it had okayed a Palestinian prisoner release held up due to the mayhem.
“Following Prime Minister Netanyahu’s demand, the mediators made a commitment that our hostages will be guaranteed safe passageway in the next releases,” reads a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
“Israel insists that lessons will be learned and that the next rounds will have greater care in ensuring the safe return of our hostages,” it adds. (Read more)

4. Buses, apparently loaded with inmates, leave West Bank prison - Times of Israel
Two coach buses are seen leaving Ofer Prison in the West Bank, apparently loaded with some 110 Palestinian terror convicts being let go as part of the Gaza ceasefire and hostage release deal.
The windows of the bus are tinted black, which Israel reportedly requested to avoid inmates celebrating and flashing victory signs to cameras, as in previous releases.
Israel had held up the release of the prisoners to protest bedlam amid heaving crowds during a transfer of two Israeli and five Thai hostages earlier in the day, demanding mediators guarantee it not happen again before going ahead with the prisoner transfer. (Read more)

5. IDF kills 11 terrorists in Samaria - JNS
The Israeli Air Force carried out a strike against terrorists in Samaria on Wednesday, killing 10 of them, the IDF said the following day.
Another terrorist, Col. Kassem Aklik, a senior officer in the Palestinian Authority security forces and a member of the Fatah movement of P.A. chief Mahmoud Abbas, was killed by ground troops on Thursday, the army added.
Among those slain in the airstrike in the area of Tammun, a Palestinian town about 30 miles east of Netanya, were Omar Basharat and Muntzair Bani Oda, the IDF said.
The two men were allegedly responsible for setting off a bomb that killed IDF Sgt. Maj. Eviatar Ben Yehuda on Jan. 20 in the Tammun area. They had convened with other terrorists, at least some of whom were armed at the time of the strike, according to the IDF statement. (Read more)

1.Trump Signs Executive Order to Prepare Guantanamo Bay to House Illegal Immigrants – The Epoch Times
President Donald Trump on Jan. 29 signed a memorandum to prepare Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba to house illegal immigrants, according to the White House.
Trump announced the move during a signing ceremony for the Laken Riley Act, which passed both houses of Congress with bipartisan support on Jan. 20.
“Today, I’m also signing an executive order to instruct the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security to begin preparing the 30,000-person migrant facility at Guantanamo Bay,” Trump said.
“We have 30,000 beds in Guantanamo to detain the worst criminal illegal aliens threatening the American people. Some of them are so bad ... so we’re going to send them out to Guantanamo. This will double our capacity immediately.”
Trump said that Congress needs to provide financial support to “remove record numbers of illegal aliens.”

2. Trump Signs Executive Order to Defund Schools Teaching CRT and Promote School Choice – The Epoch Times
President Donald Trump on Jan. 29 signed executive orders on prohibiting ideological indoctrination in K–12 schools and promoting universal school choice in every state. The executive order bars federal funding for schools that adopt critical race theory (CRT) and gender ideology in classroom learning, according to fact sheets provided by the White House. His order calling for universal school choice coincides with the latest Nation’s School Report Card results, which show a decline in reading and math scores.
The secretary of education is expected to publish a strategy for ending indoctrination programs in K–12 schools within 90 days.
The U.S. attorney general will work with state attorneys general and local district attorneys to enforce these measures and take legal action against school personnel who advocate gender transition.
The anti-indoctrination order also reinstates the 1776 Commission, which was implemented during Trump’s previous term but was removed under an executive order by President Joe Biden. The 1776 Commission published a scholarly report that called for a national renewal of education centered on teaching the U.S. Constitution and Declaration of Independence. (Read more)

4. Trump Settles with Meta Platform for 25 Million After Social Media Giant Suspended His Accounts in 2021 - The Gateway Pundit
President Donald Trump settled with Meta Platforms for $25 million after the social media giant suspended his accounts following the January 6, 2021, protests at the US Capitol.
$22 million from the settlement will go to President Trump’s presidential library. The rest will go to legal fees and to fellow plaintiffs who signed on to the case.
Meta did not admit to any wrongdoing in the settlement.
The Wall Street Journal reported that activity on the case after Mark Zuckerberg flew to Mar-a-Lago to dine with President Trump in November after his 2024 election victory. Apparently, Trump brought up the lawsuit at the end of dinner with Zuckerberg in November. Then in January, Zuckerberg met with President Trump again for a full day of mediation at Mar-a-lago. 6. American Airlines CEO Says its Unclear Why Helicopter Came into Path of Plane Before Midair Collision - The Epoch Times
A top US official says the incident was ‘absolutely preventable.’
The CEO of American Airlines on Thursday said it is not clear why a U.S. Army helicopter came into the path of a PSA regional jet before the two aircraft collided near Washington, an incident that officials say likely left no survivors.
American Airlines CEO Robert Isom, speaking at a Thursday news conference, provided condolences for the more than 60 people who likely died in the incident and said the company is focusing on supporting everyone who was affected.
“We are absolutely heartbroken for the family and loved ones of the passengers and crew members and also for those who were on the military aircraft,” he said.
Later in the news conference, Isom appeared to question why the helicopter was so close to the jet.
“They collided with a military aircraft on an otherwise normal approach. At this time, we don’t know why the military aircraft came into the path of the PSA aircraft,” he said.
The helicopter was flown by a “fairly experienced crew” that was wearing night-vision goggles on an annual proficiency training flight, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said in a video statement. (Read more) |

Setting Expectations for the New Trump Admin

President Trump took decisive actions within minutes to begin “a thrilling new era of national success.” His bold promise to reclaim American sovereignty, restore safety, rebalance the scales of justice and end “the vicious, violent and unfair weaponization of the Justice Department” left many with hope and others cringing with doubt and fear. The mainstream media immediately criticized his words and questioned his ability to make such changes at the whirlwind pace he promises. The Next Generation is Ready to Accept the Anti-Christ: Here's Why

The Bible foretells a time when a powerful and charismatic global leader will rise to dominance, demanding absolute loyalty (mark of the beast) and ruling with unchecked authority. Known as the Antichrist, this figure will captivate the world with promises of peace and progress--only to lead many into deception and destruction (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4). While such a scenario may have once seemed distant, recent polling suggests that Generation Z is already primed to accept a leader who bypasses democracy and rules by decree.
Faced with disillusionment and distrust in government, the media, and even the church, they are searching for someone strong enough to take control--regardless of the cost to personal freedoms. The seeds of authoritarianism are being sown, and the stage is being set for a leader who will exploit this longing for radical change.
Gen Z's Shift Toward Authoritarianism
A recent study by the United Kingdom's Channel 4 news reveals that over half of Gen Z (ages 13-27) believe the UK would be better off with a leader who does not have to bother with parliament or elections. Even more disturbingly, a third say the country would be better off under military rule. Nearly half of this generation believes that society must be radically reshaped, even through revolution. - Abba Father, we reject the title of this article and ask You to bring a full-blown Holy Spirit Awakening to Generation Z. We know time is short, and we ask You to bring it on as soon possible within Your time frame. We know you have heard our countless prayers for our prodigal kids and grandchildren; and we wait hopefully and with faith for You to pull them back onto the right path to You!
But Abba, we come to You on bended knee, not just for our offspring, but for all of those in Generation Z who don’t have a clue about who You are, Your intense love for them and the need for and way to Salvation. We can see that Gen Z is looking for a savior; but the enemy has caught their eye and they will follow the counterfeit messiah. They are falling for the enemy’s lies because they have no Standard and live by what seems right in their own eyes. But in the mighty name of Yeshua, we whistle for them and call them back from the enemy’s camp as You woo them with Your love and truth. We ask that they be filled with Your Spirit and have such a glorious awakening to You and Your presence that they want nothing more than to run after You!
Lord of the Harvest, we pray that You allow us to work with You and for You, ‘bringing in the sheaves’! Give us eyes to see and ears to hear what is needed in each of the divine appointments You send our way. May our intercession for the lost be fruitful beyond our imaginations, for Your glory and Your Son’s inheritance, and because You want no one to perish but desire all to have eternal life with You!!!!

President Donald Trump defended his comments questioning whether diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies played a role in the disastrous aircraft collision above the nation’s capital that killed 67 people.
Trump, speaking to reporters in the White House briefing room late Thursday morning, highlighted efforts by the Biden administration to lower aviation standards, though he acknowledged that the cause of Wednesday night's crash has yet to be determined.
CNN host Kaitlan Collins objected to Trump’s rhetoric, calling him out for "blaming Democrats and DEI policies and air traffic control and seemingly the member of the U.S. military who was flying that Black Hawk helicopter."
She went on to ask, "Don't you think you're getting ahead of the investigation right now?"
No, I don’t think so at all. I don’t think, with the names of the people, you mean the names of the people that are on the plane?" Trump asked. "You think that’s going to make a difference? They are a group of people that have lost their lives. If you want a list of the names, we can give you that, we will be giving that very soon. We’re in coordination with American Airlines. We’re in coordination very strongly, obviously, with the military."

- Father God, first of all we ask for supernatural comfort for all of the families and friends of those who perished in the explosion of the American Eagle RJ and the Army Black Hawk helicopter last night. We bind shock and trauma and loose the Spirit of healing and peace upon them in the days to come.
Lord, we observed the conflict between Pres. Trump and CNN’s Journalist Kaitlan Collins, and we ask to view that exchange through Your eyes. May forgiveness be manifested between them.
However, Lord, last night, on every TV channel for many hours, there was intense speculation about what might have caused the crash, and I should think the President has every right to voice his concerns as well. We know he sincerely expressed his sympathy and mourns with those who mourn; but we can also imagine Pres. Trump’s anger and frustration with the Biden administration for lowering hiring standards for air traffic controllers that Pres. Trump had raised during his first term as president and could have had significant bearing on this crash and future flights.
Father God, we ask that You reveal the exact cause or causes for this accident and the untimely and tragic loss of life, not so much to place blame as to correct what is wrong that this will not happen again. May conflict displayed at the public level rise to reflect Your character.

Cameras are officially rolling! Or, in this case, streaming.
SpaceTV-1, a set of Ultra High Definition 4k cameras from space streaming company Sen, was delivered to the International Space Station (ISS) last year, and is now broadcasting live views of Earth and space for all the world to see.
The London-based company is pursuing a mission to provide anyone and everyone with easy access to an experience usually reserved for astronauts — the overview effect. A phenomenon coined for the awe of seeing our planet from space and the effect it has on a person's perception of humanity, Apollo 14's lunar module pilot NASA astronaut Ed Mitchell described the overview effect as, "an instant global consciousness," accompanied with "an intense dissatisfaction with the state of the world and a compulsion to do something about it," and Sen wants that for everybody.
The SpaceTV-1 camera suite was delivered to the ISS in March, 2024, aboard a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft on the CRS-30 cargo mission last year. SpaceTV-1 was attached to the Bartolomeo platform on the European Space Agency's (ESA) Columbus module.
