Scalise Reveals First Legislation for Republican House, Vows ‘Bold Agenda’
|
|
Incoming House Majority Leader Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) revealed a list of legislation that he will bring up for Republicans to consider on the House floor when they assume control of the lower chamber in mere days and loosen the Democrats’ grip on power in Washington.
In a letter to his GOP colleagues, Scalise listed eight bills and three resolutions that he will be scheduling for Republicans to take up in their first two weeks of work after the 118th Congress begins at noon on Jan. 3.
“We have a lot of work ahead of us next year as we begin to get our country back on the right track,” Scalise wrote.
American voters have made their desire for change clear in the midterm election, Scalise said, noting frustration with soaring inflation, the rise in violent crime, and the crisis of illegal immigration. (The Epoch Times) Read more.

- Lord, we seek a new beginning with righteousness and legislation that helps rather than hurts Americans. We pray for Your wisdom over all proposals, and ask that those who introduce them seek Your Face first. We also pray for protection for
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise.
- “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” (Isaiah 43:18-19)

1. UN approves motion seeking ICJ opinion on Israeli-Palestinian conflict - i24 News
The UN General Assembly on Friday asked the International Court of Justice — a tribunal whose authority Israel doesn't accept — to consider consequences for Israel over its presence in the West Bank, a move that effectively defers to the Court to recommend the steps that the UN and countries around the world should take against Israel, whose policies, according to the proposal, amount to an "annexation" of the West Bank territories.
The General Assembly voted 87-26 with 53 abstentions on the resolution, with Western nations split but virtually unanimous support in the Islamic world — including Arab states that have normalized relations with Israel — and backing from Russia and China. The United States, Britain, and Germany opposed the resolution, while France abstained.
The resolution calls on the UN court in The Hague to determine the "legal consequences arising from the ongoing violation by Israel of the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination" as well as of its measures "aimed at altering the demographic composition, character, and status" of Jerusalem.

2. Ben-Gvir: 'I will give my full backing to the war on terror' -Israel National News
The National Security Ministry held a ceremony on Sunday, attended by the outgoing minister Omer Bar-Lev and the incoming minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Ben-Gvir was greeted by a police honor guard and the police band even played tunes composed by the late Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach.
The outgoing minister, Omer Bar-Lev, hinted to the heads of the law enforcement branches that they are to stand up against the possible changes that the new minister may lead. "The citizens of Israel look to you, they know that their security is in good hands. You, the heads of the organizations and the subordinates of all ranks, must have a strong backbone, you have to be a strong rock against the wind, to stand up for your professional opinions without fear, that's your professional obligation and your obligation to the citizens of Israel. Remember, there is no replacement for a road when navigating by compass, and by the values that the state of Israel follows."

3. Director-general of police ministry leaves hours after Ben Gvir takes over - Times of Israel
The director general of the Public Security Ministry has left his position even before the ceremonial handover to newly-appointed National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, it was announced Friday.
Ben Gvir, the leader of the far-right Otzma Yehudit party, tweeted that he met with Tomer Lotan “and we agreed on the termination of his position.”
Lotan said in a statement that he was “grateful for having the privilege to serve as head of the ministry, despite its complexity and challenges.” (Read more)

4. Ehud Barak: Gov’t shows ‘signs of fascism’; mass ‘non-violent revolt’ may be needed - Times of Israel
Former prime minister Ehud Barak on Friday accused the new government led by Benjamin Netanyahu of working to bring down Israeli democracy and said it bore “the signs of fascism.”
Speaking at a memorial ceremony for his successor as IDF chief of staff Amnon Lipkin-Shahak, who died in 2012, Barak said that if the High Court of Justice proves unable to defend Israel and its democracy from the hard-right coalition, Israel’s citizens will have to stage “a non-violent revolt” to bring it down.
“As someone who knew Amnon [Lipkin-Shahak] well, I can surmise what he would say about this government — that it was sworn in legally but is clearly acting illegitimately,” said Barak, who defeated Netanyahu to become prime minister in 1999 and later served under Netanyahu as defense minister. Jake Sullivan will hold meetings with PM Benjamin Netanyahu, Tzachi Hanegbi, Ron Dermer
The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden will send National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan to Israel in mid-January for talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu concerning his government's policies, an American outlet reported Friday citing unnamed Israeli and U.S. officials.
According to Axios, Sullivan will hold meetings with Netanyahu as well as with at least two other officials, including Israeli National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer. The report came a day after Netanyahu was sworn in as prime minister on Thursday at the helm of arguably the most right-wing government in Israeli history, following weeks of negotiations with ultra-Orthodox and far-right parties. 1. 15 Million Americans Set to Lose Medical Coverage as Public Health Emergency Ends (theepochtimes.com)
There is an expectation that as of Jan. 11, 2023, an estimated 15 million Americans will begin to lose health coverage.
The reason is that after three years of a COVID-19 public health emergency, the shield of continuous coverage offered by Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) will end.
Once the state of emergency expires, regular income requirements and restrictions will apply. This will disqualify millions who’ve benefited from congressional legislation passed in 2020 preventing disenrollment for the duration of the COVID pandemic.
- Lord, we pray that You will reveal a pathway for all who were under this emergency order to not be dependent upon the government for their healthcare. Show them the way to be sheltered for healing under Your wings and love.
- “Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal them and reveal to them abundance of prosperity and security.” (Jeremiah 33:6)

2.Trump’s Tax Returns Contain a Major Revelation (theepochtimes.com)
Former President Donald Trump and his wife Melania reported negative income in four of the six years covered by the couple’s joint tax returns, which were released on Friday by the Democrat-controlled House Ways and Means Committee.
While the committee earlier published a report and some documents that revealed details about the Trumps’ income and taxes paid, the panel on Dec. 30 made the full set of tax documents public.
The complete assortment of tax return documents, which cover the years 2015 to 2020, consists of over 2,700 pages of individual returns for Trump and Melania and over 3,000 pages for the former president’s businesses.
Key information found in the tax returns includes the fact that the Trumps reported negative income in four of the six years covered by the documentation and paid around $1.8 million in taxes.
- Lord, as every news media picks apart Mr. Trump’s tax returns, we ask for mercy for him. We also pray that You will stop this kind of illegal theft from occurring again. Tax returns are supposed to be private, but this has turned that idea on its head and endangered all Americans with the threat of exposing their taxes.
- “One who is wise is cautious and turns away from evil, but a fool is reckless and careless.” (Proverbs 14:16)

3.Federal appeals court backs Florida school district that blocked transgender student from using boys bathroom | Fox News
A federal appeals court has ruled in favor of a Florida school district’s policy that separates school bathrooms by biological sex.
The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals announced its 7-4 decision on Friday, ruling that the St. Johns County School Board did not discriminate against transgender students based on sex, or violate federal civil rights law by requiring transgender students to use gender-neutral bathrooms or bathrooms matching their biological sex.
The court’s decision was split down party lines, with seven justices appointed by Republican presidents siding with the school district and four justices appointed by Democratic presidents siding with Drew Adams, a biological female, who sued the district in 2017 after not being allowed to use the boys’ restroom.
- Thank You, Lord, for this ruling. We pray that You will dismantle the agenda of transgenders to enter the opposite sex bathrooms in all cases.
- “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.” (2 Corinthians 5:10)

4.California's Crazy New Year: Five Radical Laws Go into Effect (One on Hold) (breitbart.com)
California will see several radical laws go into effect on Sunday, January 1, including a law making the state a “sanctuary” for “transgender kids,” and a law imposing penalties on doctors for COVID “misinformation.”
Here are the five most radical new laws — plus one that is currently on hold in the courts — taking place on New Year’s Day in the Golden State, with little effective opposition from a shrinking Republican legislative minority:
1. SB 107: ‘Sanctuary State’ for ‘Transgender Kids’ – This law, signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) in September, protects the use of drugs or surgery to provide so-called “gender-affirming care” to children from other states where the use of such treatments is restricted or criminalized. It prohibits doctors from releasing information to other states, and prohibits California courts interfering in child custody over such treatments.
2. AB 2098: ‘COVID Misinformation’ – This law, signed in September, requires California’s medical licensing boards to take disciplinary action against doctors who are involved with the “dissemination of misinformation or disinformation related to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, or ‘COVID-19’.” The law does not take into account the fact that authorities like Dr. Anthony Fauci changed their recommendations over time.
- Lord, we pray for repentance to come to the leadership in California. Let these foolish laws be torn down in the courts, and may all who promoted them be brought to their knees before You.
- “So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.” (James 4:17)

5. Republicans rage over White House plans to slow investigations - POLITICO
House Republicans are fuming over a recent White House move that will slow roll their investigations, but leaders say it doesn’t change their game plan.
While the House GOP has spent weeks detailing its planned investigations into the Biden administration now that the party has a majority, the White House has stayed mostly silent on strategy. That changed Thursday morning, when White House Special Counsel Richard Sauber announced he plans to effectively reset the clock come Jan. 3 and ignore the long list of investigative requests already sent by Republican Reps. James Comer of Kentucky and Jim Jordan of Ohio — the incoming chairs for the Oversight and Judiciary Committees, respectively.
- Lord, we pray that You will stop the Democrats from causing delays and roadblocks to the investigations. We declare that truth will be pursued regardless of any attempts by others to slow or stop the investigations.
- “For nothing will be impossible with God.” (Luke 1:37)

6.Democratic North Carolina Rep. GK Butterfield Resigns From Congress Early | The Daily Caller
Democratic North Carolina Rep. G. K. Butterfield, who was set to retire, resigned from Congress early to start a new job as a lobbyist.
“I’m beginning a new job tomorrow,” Butterfield said Friday, according to WRAL.
“It’s another phase of my professional life, so I’m looking forward to it,” Butterfield added, speaking about his new role. “It will be a slower pace.”
Butterfield announced in November he planned to retire at the end of the 117th Congress as a result of the redistricting in his area.
- Lord, we ask that Your Spirit visit this Democrat Congressman and reveal Your heart to him. Let his plans to become a lobbyist so soon after his retirement be changed by visitation from the One True God.
- “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

7.Dems’ Climate Bill Could Drive Europe Closer To China, Top EU Official Warns | The Daily Caller
European Union (EU) Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis warned that green energy subsidies in the Democrats’ huge climate spending bill could hurt EU industries and push businesses to trade more with China, the Financial Times reported Thursday.
The $369 billion bill hands out heavy subsidies to spur domestic manufacturing of green energy technologies to reduce the nation’s heavy reliance on China and other foreign powers for products like solar panels and electric cars. However, Dombrovskis said that the “Inflation Reduction Act” (IRA) may work against its stated aims as the subsidies will make European products far less competitive compared to U.S. goods, making Chinese business deals more appealing to EU companies, according to the FT.
Dombrovskis also said that the EU could respond to U.S. subsidies by increasing its own green energy subsidies or creating new ones, the FT reported. The commissioner stressed that he did not want to start a trade war between the U.S. and the EU, indicating that any aggressive action by the EU would be met with a similar response from the Biden administration.
- Lord, we pray that Your wisdom will prevail over all issues of trade between the EU and the US. Let every portion of this Act be subject to Your oversight, not that of the Biden administration.
- “The best of them is like a brier, the most upright of them a thorn hedge.” (Micah 7:4a)

8. Chinese jet came within 10 feet of U.S. military aircraft, U.S. says | Reuters
A Chinese military plane came within 10 feet (3 metres) of a U.S. air force aircraft in the contested South China Sea last week and forced it to take evasive maneuvers to avoid a collision in international airspace, the U.S. military said on Thursday.
The close encounter followed what the United States has called a recent trend of increasingly dangerous behavior by Chinese military aircraft.
The incident, which involved a Chinese Navy J-11 fighter jet and a U.S. air force RC-135 aircraft, took place on Dec. 21, the U.S. military said in a statement.
- Father, we pray that these encounters will not cause a wider conflict.
- “No weapon formed against you shall prosper.” (Isaiah 54:17a)

9. UMC North Georgia Conference blocks churches from disaffiliating | Church & Ministries News (christianpost.com)
A United Methodist Church conference in Georgia will temporarily block member churches from disaffiliating from the second-largest Protestant denomination in the United States amid the denominational schism over homosexuality.
In an email sent to member churches, the UMC North Georgia Conference announced a decision to "pause" the disaffiliation process, claiming "many local churches have been misled about the disaffiliation process and have been presented with information about the process" and about the UMC leadership "that is factually incorrect and defamatory."
"We have significant concerns about this misinformation and are well aware that it has the potential to do irreparable harm," the announcement reads. "We do not have confidence in the validity of upcoming church conference disaffiliation votes."
The UMC North Georgia Conference says the misinformation has come "in the form of printed materials, PowerPoint presentations, websites, videos, emails, and social media posts" that constitute a "breach of integrity." The email didn't name those responsible for sharing the alleged misinformation.
- Lord, this conflict among people who call themselves Christians is egregious. “Misinformation” and “disinformation” are being used in all quarters of society to harm people and throw stumbling blocks against them. Let them part peacefully and let Your Truth fall upon this denomination. Bring repentance Lord, to this church.
- “Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God; for it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” So then each of us will give an account of himself to God. Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother.” (Romans 14:10-13)

10.Biden administration seeks to rescind Trump-era ‘conscience’ protections for health workers | The Hill
The Biden administration is proposing to largely undo a Trump-era rule that boosted the rights of medical workers to refuse to perform abortions or other services that conflicted with their religious or moral beliefs.
In a statement, the Department of Health and Human Services said its proposal would “restore the longstanding process for the handling of conscience complaints and provide additional safeguards to protect against conscience and religious discrimination.”
The move comes as many Republican-led states have enacted abortion bans or strict limits in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
The proposal, released Thursday, would partially rescind the Trump administration’s 2019 rule that would have stripped federal funding from health facilities that required workers to provide any service they objected to, like abortions, contraception, gender affirming care and sterilization.
- Lord, we pray that this action will be stopped in its tracks. Let no more proposals stand in the way of people to object to the agendas of the left. We rebuke every plan of the enemy to force medical workers to do the bidding of leftists.
- “As for those who persist in sin, rebuke them in the presence of all, so that the rest may stand in fear.” (1 Timothy 5:20)

The Light Of The New Year
The Daily Jot, Bill Wilson, January 2, 2023
Many say that the Constitutional Republic of the US is over because of the election chicanery and censorships. By those standards, they may have a point. But let us not forget that the Constitution remains intact. Its precepts enforceable. Let us also remember that God is our witness; that Christ is our salvation; that the Holy Spirit is our comforter and guide. The Republic should not define you. In fact, you should define the Republic. And that, my brothers and sisters, is the reason we are faced today with historic consequences of a revolutionary complacency. We are looking for solutions, but there are no solutions in politics, only compromise. And compromise is so systemic that it is as an evil upon our land.
Over the past 21 years, I have grown to know many of Daily Jot subscribers very well. You are the active ones. You are, as Christ said in Matthew 5:13-14, “the salt of the earth. You are the light of the world.” You have written letters. You have made phone calls. You have attended prayer meetings and prayer conference calls. You pray unceasingly. You speak truth wherever and whenever the opportunity. Still, with all this, the Republic continues to decline. And we look for many reasons—the killing of the unborn; the acceptance of same sex marriage; the promotion of sexual immorality in schools; the censorship of God in the public square; the abomination of the dishonest scale—which is found in politics, elections, government, the church, entertainment, media, and business dealings. California rocked by 5.4 earthquake as state battles life-threatening floods
|
|
Northern California has been hit by a 5.4 magnitude earthquake for the second time within the span of two weeks, leading to power outages and widespread damage.
The quake took place on New Year’s Day, striking around nine miles southeast of Rio Dell in Humboldt County around 10.30am on Sunday, the US Geological Survey reported.
The office of the Humboldt County Sheriff said that home damages were reported in Rio Dell – around half of residents didn’t have power on Sunday and about 30 per cent didn’t have water, according to NBC News.
Early on Monday, just over a dozen customers didn’t have power in Humboldt County, according to poweroutage.us.
The sheriff’s office hasn’t reported any injuries in connection to the earthquake. The authorities added that there was no risk of a tsunami because of the earthquake.
The California Department of Transportation conducted a temporary shutdown of State Route 211 at Fernbridge Road to perform safety inspections, the sheriff’s office noted, warning that there could be delays in traffic.
The earthquake struck just days after a 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit the area on 20 December, leaving two people dead, about a dozen injured, and thousands without power. (US News) Read more here.

- Father God, as the residents of California continue to experience these shakings, we ask for their safety, and for your grace to rest upon all first responders and power company workers as they restore order after the quakes. In Your name, amen.

To protect you in all your ways." (Psalm 91:11)

Prayers Answered! Kirk Cameron Shares Faith-Based Stories to Thousands in Public Libraries
|
|
For many Americans, the degradation of morality and conscious in society has been demoralizing to say the least. But when Christians stand up for the Lord, and their rights, victory can be snatched from the jaws of defeat. Such is the case for Kirk Cameron and his faith-based story hour. As Charisma News previously reported, Cameron had been denied reading Christian children's books by over 50 public libraries. These same libraries embraced and encouraged the "Drag Queen Story Hours" that have been sexualizing children for years. While addressing this act of religious discrimination publicly, Cameron said he would pursue whatever legal means were available to him and his publishing team.
There were also intercessors across the nation lifting up Cameron and his team before the Lord in prayer, and to bring victory over the principalities trying to stop the spread of faith-based stories to children. And victory was achieved, as Cameron led his first children's story hour at the Indianapolis Public Library. It wasn't just a victory; it was a spiritual tsunami that washed over the forces of darkness that are trying to silence godly morals from taking root in the hearts of children in America. Reading from the children's book he wrote, "As You Grow," Cameron headlined the largest even held at the library in its 137 years of operation. It is estimated that around 2,500 parents and children were in attendance for the story-hour, a gathering that would have never taken place if Cameron simply accepted the libraries original denial of his reading.
Talking to the Todd Starnes Show, Cameron discussed how he wants to help parents use the law to fight back against discrimination. "If libraries turn them down the way that they've turned me down, I'm showing them how to fight back by using the tools of law like I have," Cameron said. "In fact, I posted two public letters to those libraries saying, I hope this is just a misunderstanding. Here's a free copy of my book for you to review. These are values that I think every community could use. And if you continue to exclude certain viewpoints because you don't like them in the public library, well, then I'm prepared to assert my constitutional rights in court. And I'm hoping that I'll be making a trip to these libraries soon to read my book." The event was such a smashing success, the library had to announce that not all patrons would be able to listen to the reading due to capacity being reached for the building. (Charisma) Read More

- Lord, we sing HALLELUJAH for answered prayer!! May this wonderful news spread throughout the nation and begin a tsunami of biblically based "story-hour" within public libraries! In the powerful name of Jesus Christ we pray- Amen.

Are you weary, are you heavy hearted?
Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus.
Are you grieving over joys departed?
Tell it to Jesus alone.
Refrain
Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus,
He is a friend that’s well known.
You’ve no other such a friend or brother,
Tell it to Jesus alone.
Do the tears flow down your cheeks unbidden?

Have you sins that to men’s eyes are hidden?
Tell it to Jesus alone.

Do you fear the gathering clouds of sorrow?
Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus.
Are you anxious what shall be tomorrow?
Tell it to Jesus alone.
