Former Top FBI Counterterrorism Official Arrested, DOJ Announces
|
|
A former top FBI official in New York has been arrested because of his alleged ties to a Russian oligarch, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on Jan. 23.
Charles McGonigal, formerly the special agent in charge of counterintelligence in the FBI’s New York Field Office, was arrested because of his ties to Oleg Deripaska, according to a DOJ statement and court documents. Deripaska, a Russian billionaire, has been sanctioned by the United States and was criminally charged in 2022 for violating those sanctions.
Prosecutors say McGonigal and Sergey Shestakov—a court interpreter—were charged with violating and conspiring to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act with money laundering and conspiring to commit money laundering. Specifically, Shestakov was charged with making misstatements to the FBI, according to the DOJ.
Both defendants were arrested on Jan. 21 and made an appearance on Jan. 23 before Magistrate Judge Sarah L. Cave in a Manhattan federal court, the DOJ stated. McGonigal is among the highest-ranking former FBI officials to ever have been charged with a crime. (Read more)

Supreme Court’s Failure to Identify Dobbs Leaker Is ‘Chilling’: Jonathan Turley
|
|
George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley criticized the Supreme Court on Jan. 19 over its failure to determine who leaked a draft of the court’s Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization opinion.
After a months-long investigation sparked by the May leak, the court released its much-anticipated investigative report (pdf) on the matter Thursday, finding that it was “not possible” to identify the person responsible for the breach or how the document had ended up in the hands of Politico.
“The Supreme Court’s report indicates that they cannot isolate the culprit among the over 80 possible suspects for the Dobbs leak,” Turley noted in a series of Jan. 19 tweets. “It is an admission that is almost as chilling as the leak itself.”
Turley also posited that, despite the security recommendations of the court’s marshal, the inconclusive investigation would likely only serve to embolden future leakers.
“The nature of the Court’s work requires a free flow of drafts and memoranda,” he noted. “That is why we hope to achieve through deterrence what was not achieved through ethics.
“In this age of rage, this danger will only grow,” he added. “Someone felt that they had license to leak. Some others may now feel that they have the impunity to do so.” (The Epoch Times) Read more

WEF speaker said he was told not to use ‘God’ or ‘religion’ during ‘Keeping the faith’ talk
|

DAVOS, Switzerland (LifeSiteNews) — A World Economic Forum (WEF) speaker said during Thursday’s “Keeping the faith” panel discussion that he was told not to use the words “God” and “religion” during his talk.
“Before I jump in, I want to offer a trigger warning for the audience. As I was preparing for this session … they told me, ‘Don’t use the words religion, faith, and God,’ and so I just ask people to translate that to ‘mindfulness,’ ‘purpose-driven,’ ‘spirituality,’” said Farhan Latif, president of the El-Hibri Foundation, to the laughter of the audience and fellow panelists.
While the panelists may have brushed it off as a trivial, harmless request by the WEF, Latif’s anecdote is profoundly revealing and deeply concerning: The WEF, in fact, has zero interest in and even disdains God and religion.
As the panel discussion made clear, the WEF and its representatives are only interested in “spirituality” or religion insofar as they serve the Davos agenda — ostensibly a more “sustainable” world. As journalist Frank Wright has pointed out, this agenda hinges upon the successful “management” of human beings.
In fact, God and authentic religion are a threat to the WEF’s agenda, not only because they recognize humans’ unparalleled value and dignity among creation (precluding their subservience to the “environment”), but because they establish aspirations beyond the merely material — that is, that there is not only a business of lives to save but souls.
Most fundamentally, to embrace God and true religion would mean to embrace hard moral lines that preclude aspects of the WEF agenda. It would mean they must be held accountable to something higher than themselves. It would mean the WEF elites could not appoint themselves “gods” on earth. (Read more)

1. Netanyahu and Abdullah meet in Jordan, signaling they want to move past tensions - Times of Israel
For the first time in over four years, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu flew to Jordan Tuesday to meet King Abdullah II, the premier’s office announced after the conclusion of the visit.
According to the statement, the two leaders discussed “strategic, security, and economic cooperation” during the meeting, the first between the leaders in over four years. They also spoke about the importance of the alliance between the countries.
The visit seemingly indicates that both sides are interested in avoiding the public fights that marked the relationship last time Netanyahu was in office. (Read more)

2. President Herzog to address EU Parliament on Intl. Holocaust Remembrance Day - Israel National News
President Isaac Herzog will depart on Wednesday, 25 January 2023, for a visit to the Kingdom of Belgium. The President will begin his visit at the Royal Palace of Brussels, where he will be received by His Majesty King Philippe of the Belgians, and the two leaders will hold a meeting.
President Herzog will then visit the Athénée Ganenou Jewish school and will meet pupils of all ages studying there. The President will then meet with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and will visit the Great Synagogue of Europe in Brussels, where he will meet members of the Jewish communities of Brussels and Antwerp.
The following day, 26 January 2023, the President will visit the European Parliament at the invitation of the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, where he will deliver the main address in front of MEPs and Holocaust survivors at a special session on the occasion of International Holocaust Remembrance Day. 3. Judicial reform: Bank of Israel gov. warns Netanyahu of economic risks - Jerusalem Post
Bank of Israel Governor Prof. Amir Yaron warned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against the planned judicial reform in a meeting between the two in the prime minister's office on Tuesday.
According to Walla, in the meeting, the governor warned Netanyahu of harming Israel's credit score as a result of the judicial reform. "The world is worriedly following the developments that may distance international companies from investing in the country," he said. (Read more)

4. ‘Day of Rage’ in New York’s Grand Central Station Calls for Intifada, Destruction of Israel - Jewish Press
Anti-Israel activists from the Samidoun and Within Our Lifetime organizations held a “day of rage” this past weekend in New York City’s iconic Grand Central Station.
Samidoun, the “Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network” was founded by members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) terrorist organization and is also designated as a terrorist organization by the State of Israel.
It’s not clear how some 80 haters were permitted to use space in one of the city’s most important transit hubs to call for the destruction of the State of Israel and the freedom of “all Palestinian prisoners” incarcerated for terror attacks on civilians. (Read more)

5. Bipartisan Congressional Letter Calls for UN Official’s Firing Over ‘Outrageous’ Antisemitic Remarks - Algemeiner
11 Democratic and Republican members of Congress on Monday called for the firing of the UN’s special rapporteur on Palestine, Francesca Albanese, for her “outrageous” antisemitic statements.
“Enough is enough,” the letter, led by Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA), reads. “Ms. Albanese’s comments are only the latest in a pattern of antisemitic behavior and rhetoric at the UN, which is obsessively focused on the world’s only Jewish state.”
The letter, which was addressed to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, cites Albanese’s comments and writings over the past 10 years, including a 2014 letter in which she claimed America was “subjugated by the Jewish lobby” and her 2022 remarks to a Hamas conference in Gaza where she told the terrorist group’s attendees that they “have a right to resist this occupation.” Albanese has repeatedly asserted a Palestinian “right to resist”, including during the latest round of indiscriminate rocket fire from Gaza in August. “An unlawful act of resistance does not make the resistance unlawful,” she said. 1. McCarthy taps three conservatives for powerful House Rules Committee - Washington Examiner
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) announced on Monday he tapped two conservatives who held out on him getting the gavel, Reps. Ralph Norman (R-SC) and Chip Roy (R-TX), to serve on the powerful House Rules Committee.
The addition of Norman, Roy, and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), who did not vote against McCarthy, to the panel is expected to move it in a more conservative direction. Every major piece of legislation has to go through the committee before coming to the floor for a vote.
During the course of negotiations between McCarthy and the Republican defectors during the historic four-day speaker vote, he conceded to conservatives’ push to put more hardliners on the top committees. (Read more)

2. Texas bill to ban Chinese and Russians from purchasing land gains GOP support - Washington Examiner
Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) is the latest supporter of a Texas Senate bill that would ban citizens from China , Russia, North Korea, and Iran from purchasing land in the state.
The bill, which was proposed by state state Sen. Lois Kolkhorst (R) in November, aims to stem foreign influence in Texas.
It would do so by disallowing the purchase or acquisition of property by citizens or companies based in the four countries, according to the Texas Tribune.
Last week, Abbott said he would sign the proposed bill if it passes the state legislature, joining Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and former President Donald Trump in supporting bans on foreign land investment in the United States. (Read more)

3. Ted Cruz Introduces Legislation To Impose Term Limits For Congress - The Daily Caller
Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz introduced a constitutional amendment Monday to impose term limits for members of Congress.
The legislation, first obtained by the Daily Caller, would limit U.S. Senators to two six-year terms and Members of the U.S. House of Representatives to three two-year terms after the date of its enactment.
“Term limits are critical to fixing what’s wrong with Washington, D.C. The Founding Fathers envisioned a government of citizen legislators who would serve for a few years and return home, not a government run by a small group of special interests and lifelong, permanently entrenched politicians who prey upon the brokenness of Washington to govern in a manner that is totally unaccountable to the American people,” Cruz told the Caller before introducing the constitutional amendment. 4. Biden’s Energy Secretary Blames ‘International And Climate Events’ For Rising Gas Prices - The Daily Caller
Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm claimed Monday that “international and climate events” were to blame for price increases at the pump.
“It’s obviously based upon international and climate events, so, for example, Winter Storm Elliot pulled two million barrels off the U.S. market,” Granholm said during a White House press briefing. “That crimp in supply causes prices to go up.”
The average price of a gallon of gas is $3.423, up from $3.096 a month ago, according to AAA. Biden has taken credit for lower gas prices in the past, even though a gallon of gas cost an average of $2.1218 on Nov. 3, 2020. (Read more)

5. Nevada to consider bill allowing noncitizens to serve on police forces - Fox News
Nevada is considering a bill that would allow noncitizens who live in the state and pass a background check to serve as police officers amid staffing shortages.
Assembly Bill 30, which is sponsored by the Assembly Committee on Government Affairs, will be considered during the next session of the Nevada Assembly.
If passed and signed by Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo, a former sheriff, the bill would make approximately 140,000 green card holders and up to 15,000 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients in the state eligible to attend police academy and join police forces in the state. Twitter users hit Vice President Kamala Harris for omitting right to "life" while reciting a quote from the Declaration of Independence during a speech marking the 50th anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade decision that granted nationwide access to abortion.
"We collectively believe and know, America is a promise. … It is a promise of freedom and liberty, not just some but for all. We are each endowed with the right to liberty and the pursuit of happiness," Harris said Sunday.
The document's original text reads: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." (Read more)

7. Vice President Mike Pence discovered classified documents in Indiana home - Fox News
Vice President Mike Pence informed Congress Tuesday that he discovered documents bearing classified markings in his Carmel, Indiana, home on Jan. 16 from his time as vice president.
Following the revelations that classified documents from President Biden's tenure as vice president were found at the Penn Biden Center think tank and Wilmington, Delaware, the vice president's team conducted searches of Pence's Indiana home and the office of his political advocacy group, Advancing American Freedom.
According to his team, Pence informed the National Archives on Jan. 18 of a small number of potential classified documents found in two small boxes. Another two boxes contained copies of vice presidential papers. The National Archives then informed the FBI per standard procedure. (Read more)

8. FDA leaves out Pfizer COVID vaccine 'stroke signal,' myocarditis study from advisers' next meeting - Just The News
The FDA's briefing documents for the next meeting of its outside advisers specializing in COVID-19 vaccines have a couple big omissions, agency watchers say.
Pfizer's promised study on "subclinical myocarditis" in young adults who received its original booster, which was due Dec. 31 at the agency, and the "stroke signal" the feds detected, then dismissed in elderly recipients of Pfizer's new booster are not mentioned.
The CDC and FDA will each make a presentation on the "effectiveness and safety" of the original and Omicron-targeting vaccines. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's is 45 minutes, and the Food and Drug Administration's is 30 minutes. 9. LAPD Sheriff announces 11th victim has died in Monterey Park shooting - Just The News
Speaking at a press conference, Luna said among the items recovered were a 308-caliber rifle, computers and phones, materials that indicated the suspect was mass producing homemade firearm silencers, as investigators announced the discovery of hundreds of rounds of ammunition within the suspect's mobile home. The death toll from the shooting has risen to 11 since Monday, Luna confirmed.
The sheriff also said a motive had still not been established. The suspect, a 72-year-old man, died from a self-inflicted gunshot on Sunday, as police surrounded his vehicle in a shopping center parking lot in Torrance. (Read more)

How To Resist The WEF

A communist utopia with China as the model—this appears to be the unspoken goal of the World Economic Forum as it touts “collective” action on ambiguous areas such as climate control, health equity, finances, mobility, energy, food, education, and technology. These areas affect each of our lives and the WEF cabal intends to control us with the flip of a switch. When you look at the thousands of companies and world leaders who support this collective, it can seem overwhelming to try to resist it. But just like the Bible warns about taking the mark of the Beast in the end of days, we should practice not being part of the far reaching and tyrannical tentacles of the WEF.
A COVID-induced loss of life and subsequent economic recession, runaway inflation, and rising interest rates have dampened the progress of the globalist world order. Their handling of these macro issues is less than effective, giving a great deal of pause to the great reset. The Wall Street Journal, for example, reported that the mood at Davos was somber amid these worldwide economic woes post-COVID. This may lead some to believe that the global cabal overshot its command and control as the COVID vaccines were found to be ineffective and unsafe, leaving a rift of side effects and excess deaths in their wake; lockdowns were counterproductive because they ruined world economies, and the government-corporate partnerships proffered by the WEF proved incapable of handling the aftermath of their actions. Uh, Earth’s Inner Core Just Stopped Spinning
|

- Earth’s inner core’s spin has slowed and “paused.”
- Scientists believe this happens roughly every seven decades as the core will then start spinning a different direction.
- A new study says there’s a direct connection between the inner core’s spin and life on Earth’s surface.
Earth’s inner core stopped spinning. But don’t fret, it appears this happens from time to time, say every seven decades or so.
A new study published in Nature Geoscience by geophysicists Yi Yang and Xiadong Song of Peking University in Beijing explored the nature of movement of Earth’s inner core, largely made up of iron and molten liquids. They found the inner core’s movement recently reduced enough they consider it “paused,” all part of what “seems to be associated with a gradual turning back of the inner core as a part of an approximately seven-decade oscillation.”

Salvations Abound as Sheriff's Office and Inmates Celebrate Baptisms

An Indiana sheriff's department recently celebrated the new year by commemorating the baptisms of around 40 incarcerated men and women. The Decatur County Sheriff's Office sparked thousands of likes and shares last month on Facebook after announcing the baptisms and sharing photos of prisoners turning their lives over to the Lord. "What a great way to celebrate Christmas and a New Year!" the post read. "DCDC Chaplain Dave Burnett, along with REC members, baptized nearly 40 men and women after a personal, public profession of Jesus Christ in their lives."
And that's not all. The Decatur County Sheriff's Office concluded the statement by noting this is hardly the first time detained inmates have made similar decisions. "Over the past four years, nearly 300 men and women have given their life to Jesus Christ while incarcerated at the Decatur County Detention Center," the post read. "All glory to GOD!" The Daily News reported there were actually 59 baptisms, with these actions taken as part of an effort to prevent recidivism. The inmates who took part "each committed to changing their hearts." Outgoing Sheriff Dave Durant has said he believes changing the heart is paramount to stopping repeat offending and helping change lives. (Charisma News)
