McCarthy Appoints Detractors to Key House Committee After Speaker Standoff

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has selected two of the 20 Republican holdouts who delayed his election as speaker to serve on the House Rules Committee.

Reps. Chip Roy (R-Texas) and Ralph Norman (R-S.C.), both members of the staunchly conservative House Freedom Caucus, will serve on the influential panel.

McCarthy announced the committee memberships in a Jan. 23 Twitter post.

“Under Dem control, House committees were used to target political opponents and reward allies at the expense of addressing the country’s concerns. That ends now,” he wrote. “These Republican members will work to shift power back to the American people through their respective committees.”

After initially opposing McCarthy through the first 12 rounds of voting in the speakership election, both Roy and Norman eventually switched their votes in his favor after the California Republican agreed to several key concessions, including the appointment of more hardline conservatives to the Rules Committee.

Other Republicans selected for the panel include Committee Chairman Tom Cole (R-Okla.) and Reps. Michael Burgess (R-Texas), Guy Reschenthaler (R-Penn.), Michelle Fischbach (R-Minn.), Erin Houchin (R-Ind.), Nick Langworthy (R-N.Y.), and Thomas Massie (R-Ky.).

Massie, who supported McCarthy for speaker, is not a Freedom Caucus member but is a conservative libertarian who often votes contrary to his Republican colleagues. (Epoch Times) Read more here.

- Thank You Father, for drawing out maturity amongst the dueling teams in the House of Representatives.  We bless Kevin McCarthy for standing in strength and appointing tenacious warriors who won't be bullied to be a part of this powerful committee.  May they each work together to advance righteousness in Congress and defend the Constitution at every turn.  We give You the praise, Abba.

- "Sow for yourselves righteousness; Reap in mercy; Break up your fallow ground, For it is time to seek the Lord, Till He comes and rains righteousness on you."  (Hosea 10:12)

Josh Hawley introduces PELOSI Act to bar lawmakers from trading stocks and profiting while in office

A Republican in the U.S. Senate is looking to prevent lawmakers and their spouses from trading stocks on which the officials would have privileged information and used the bill's title to make a not-so-subtle dig at former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

On Tuesday, Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., introduced the PELOSI Act, officially the Preventing Elected Leaders from Owning Securities and Investments Act, requiring members and their spouses to divest any holdings or put them in a blind trust within six months of entering office.

"Members of Congress and their spouses shouldn’t be using their position to get rich on the stock market - today l’m introducing legislation to BAN stock trading & ownership by members of Congress. I call it the PELOSI Act," he wrote on Twitter Tuesday.
(Fox News) Read more.

- All praise and thanks to Jesus for Josh Hawley and his PELOSI Act, plus the bi-partisan agreement and support shown for this legislation that would cause members of Congress and their families to be cut off from their securities and investments while in office. Lord, insider trading is illegal and an egregious affront to American citizens—we ask for evidence and justice for any currently seated elected official who may be guilty of this crime. May the PELOSI Act become an enforceable reality. We ask You, Lord, for favor and direction for Hawley, and we call forth more than enough supporters for this righteous legislation.

Texas leads 20 Republican states in suing Biden admin over migrant parole program

A coalition of 20 states and a top conservative legal group are suing the Biden administration over its recently expanded humanitarian parole program that allows tens of thousands of migrants from designated countries a month into the U.S., arguing that the program is unlawful.

The lawsuit, filed by Texas and America First Legal in the Southern District of Texas, is joined by 19 additional states who are seeking to block the Biden administration’s parole program, which allow up to 30,000 migrants from Haiti, Nicaragua, Cuba and Venezuela into the U.S. each month.

The Biden administration announced the program for Venezuelans in October, which allowed a limited number to fly directly into the U.S. as long as they had not entered illegally, had a sponsor in the U.S. already and passed certain checks. (Fox News)
Read more here.

- Lord, we are so grateful to You for this 20-state coalition lawsuit brought against the Biden administration over the expanded “humanitarian parole program.” This program would permit over 30,000 aliens/month to enter the U.S.; the program is deemed unlawful as rules required by the Administrative Procedure Act were not followed. Nor do we have the resources to implement the rules of this policy which means we continue to have the same problems, only magnified.

We pray for wisdom, favor and success for the 20 states and America First Legal as they seek to limit the migrant influx which has already over-stretched law enforcement and overwhelmed state and local budgets as they face increased demand for health care, education and other social services plus deal with crime, death and injury via drug cartels and their minions. Father God, please have mercy—we cannot fulfill our God-given destiny so long as we are forced to deal with unrighteous leaders who promote policies that will ultimately destroy our nation.

- "From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands."  (Acts 17:26)
FOCUS ON ISRAEL

1. ‘Israel is an independent country’: Ben-Gvir vows to return to Temple Mount - JNS

(January 25, 2023 / JNS) Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir vowed on Wednesday to continue visiting the Temple Mount, a day after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Jordan’s king that he would uphold the status quo governing interfaith relations in Jerusalem.

“I devise my own policy on the Temple Mount, not that of the Jordanian government,” said Ben-Gvir.  “I went up to the Temple Mount and I will continue to go up to the Temple Mount.

“With all due respect to Jordan, Israel is an independent country. I assume the Americans understand freedom of movement; in the United States, no person would be prevented from going anywhere just because he is a Jew,” he said. (Read more)

2. Netanyahu vows to maintain Temple Mount status quo in meeting with Jordanian king - Times of Israel

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly promised King Abdullah II that the status quo on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem will be preserved during a previously unannounced meeting between the two in Jordan on Tuesday.

According to Channel 12 news, Netanyahu made the promise more than once during the hours-long visit, and also gave assurances that Israel would protect the authority of the Islamic Waqf — a Jordanian-appointed council that administers the Temple Mount. The site is the holiest site for Jews, as the location of two biblical temples, while the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Mount is the third holiest shrine in Islam, turning the area into a major flashpoint in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Under an arrangement that has prevailed for decades under Jordan’s custodianship, Jews and other non-Muslims are permitted to visit the Temple Mount during certain hours but may not pray there. In recent years, Jewish religious nationalists, including members of the new governing coalition, have increasingly visited the site and demanded equal prayer rights for Jews there, infuriating the Palestinians and Muslims around the world. (Read more)

3. Israel’s Elbit to arm NATO planes with anti-missile systems - JNS

(January 25, 2023 / JNS) Elbit Systems, an Israeli aerospace and defense company, has signed a contract with NATO to deliver anti-missile systems for its tanker transport plane fleet.

Elbit announced the five-year deal Tuesday with the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA).

“The contract includes the establishment of a service center, located at NSPA, to provide support and logistics to the system,” stated Elbit. (Read more)

4. US Democrat: Congress would back selling Riyadh weapons for Israel normalization - Times of Israel

WASHINGTON — A Democratic member of Congress said Monday that they and others in the party would likely object to the US selling advanced weaponry to Saudi Arabia, even in exchange for Riyadh normalizing relations with Israel, but acknowledged that such opposition would presumably not be enough to block an agreement.

Speaking on condition of anonymity in order to address the sensitive subject candidly, the lawmaker speculated to The Times of Israel that, despite the ongoing concern among Democrats and some Republicans over Saudi Arabia’s human rights record and energy policy, the skeptics would be far outnumbered by supporters of Riyadh-Jerusalem normalization in both parties.

The Abraham Accords is a rare issue that receives bipartisan support on Capitol Hill, with caucuses established last year in both houses of Congress in order to advance Israel’s integration in the region. (Read more)

5. Mysterious handprint found in 1,000-year-old Jerusalem defensive moat - Times of Israel

A mysterious hand imprint was discovered carved into a 1,000-year-old dry moat that surrounded Jerusalem’s Old City during excavations of defensive fortifications, the Israel Antiquities Authority said in a statement Wednesday.

The archaeological work, carried out as part of an infrastructure project along Sultan Suleiman Street, which runs adjacent to the city walls, revealed a deep rock-hewn moat likely dating from the 10th century, or possibly even earlier, the IAA said.

At one point along the moat’s wall was a handprint carved into the stone, leaving archaeologists baffled as to its purpose. (Read more)

1. Tens of thousands demand end to all abortion at first March for Life - Life Site News

At least tens of thousands of pro-lifers braved the cold today to march to the U.S. Capitol building for the 50th annual March for Life, for the first time celebrating the fall of Roe v. Wade instead of having to again demand it be overturned.

As the first national March to occur since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe in 2023’s Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the theme this year is “Next Steps: Marching into a Post-Roe America.” As such the path concluded not at the Supreme Court building but at the Capitol, where legislative battles will continue over taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood, Democrat efforts to codify a “right” to abortion, federal protections for the preborn, and more.

Speakers at the pre-March for Life rally included The Chosen star Jonathan Roumie, Hall of Fame coach Tony Dungy, Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch, U.S. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, U.S. Rep. Chris Smith, and more. (Read more)

- Heavenly Father, we praise You for the victories You have brought about in this battle for life. We know it is not Your intention for governments to sanction the murder of your image-bearers. Give us wisdom as we advance the sanctity of life through laws and give us love and grace as we minister to mothers in need. In Jesus’ name, amen.

- “You have delegated to them rulership over all you have made, with everything under their authority, placing earth itself under the feet of your image-bearers.” (‭‭Psalms‬ ‭8‬:‭6‬‬)

2. CDC Urges Public Schools to Embrace LGBTQ Inclusivity, 'Denies the Reality of Sex' - CBN News

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released material urging teachers and administrators to embrace LGBTQ causes. While the CDC describes the motivation as helping schools become more inclusive, critics say the agency is overstepping its field to push a political agenda.

According to the CDC, its LGBTQ Inclusivity in Schools: A Self-Assessment Tool aims to help schools increase support for those students. But one of the bigger questions surrounding this move, is how does it contribute to the agency's mission of helping families, businesses, and communities fight disease and stay healthy?

It encourages educators to display rainbow flags in classrooms and unisex signs in bathrooms. It also urges teachers to incorporate LGBTQ content in their lessons, use student-preferred pronouns, and attend LGBTQ training.  The document also tells teachers to "describe anatomy and physiology separate from gender," and to see students who are in locker rooms with transgender students as having misconceptions that transgender students are not "real."  (Read more)

- Lord God, we pray for every family member, and every child that is having to deal with this confusion that you would help lead and guide them into all truth. 3. National Archives misses House deadline to turn over Biden classified document information - Washington Examiner

National Archives officials missed a deadline set by the House Oversight Committee to turn over information related to President Joe Biden’s classified documents scandal in the first of what could become many attempts to slow-walk responses under the Biden administration.

House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) had asked the National Archives on Jan. 10 to provide information about its efforts to recover classified records found at Biden’s private office in Washington, D.C.

“The National Archives has not produced the requested documents to the Committee at this time. Chairman Comer’s request still stands and anticipates moving forward with a transcribed interview with NARA’s general counsel soon," an Oversight Committee spokesperson told the Washington Examiner. - Lord, in a world where justice and integrity is fading help us stay true to your Word. Help us live lives filled with integrity and implementing justice wherever we can. And no matter what it looks like we will never stop praying for our leaders that they would love their lives with the upmost integrity. I pray for these words to be true in my life as well as in the lives of those who serve me in government.

“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”           (Micah 6:8)

4. Iowa Gov Kim Reynolds signs historic school choice bill - Fox News

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds signed an unprecedented school choice bill called the Students First Act on Tuesday, allowing any Iowa student to use public money to pay for private school tuition or other expenses.

"For the first time, we will fund students not systems!" Reynolds said on Twitter.
"Parents, not the government, can now choose the education setting best suited to their child regardless of their income or zip code. Iowa has affirmed that educational freedom belongs to all!"

After the Students First Act was passed, Iowa is now the third state to pass a school choice measure that expands to every student in the state. (Read more)

5. DOJ indicts Florida duo for threatening crisis pregnancy centers - Fox News

Two Florida residents were indicted by the U.S. Department of Justice on Tuesday for attacks on crisis pregnancy resource centers, becoming the first of such indictments following the Supreme Court’s leaked draft opinion to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Caleb Freestone, 27, and Amber Smith-Stewart, 23, allegedly conspired to prevent reproductive health services facility employees at a clinic in Winter Haven, Florida from providing services, according to the indictment.

Both suspects are accused of targeting the pregnancy resource facility in Winter Haven and vandalizing it with spray-painted threats such as, "If abortions aren’t safe than niether [sic] are you," "YOUR TIME IS UP!!," "WE’RE COMING FOR U," and "We are everywhere." (Read more)

- Lord God, we realize that no matter what one's views are on abortion violence is never the answer. So we just pray Lord God, that, as we continue to have this vital discussion in our country, we would do it with respect for one another showing good godly character in Jesus name amen.

- “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”     (Eph. 5:1,2)
6. House committee launches IRS whistleblower portal in ramp-up of oversight - Washington Examiner

Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO) announced on Wednesday the launch of an online portal for IRS employees to report malfeasance directly to Congress.

The portal features an area for whistleblowers to provide their contact information, as well as information regarding any wrongdoing within the Internal Revenue Service or about the misuse of taxpayer data. The website encourages complainants not to use work resources to fill out the form in order to protect the line of communication.

“Unfortunately, it has become clear that relying on the IRS to be forthcoming about its failures or outright abuses of taxpayer confidence is insufficient to ensure much-needed, aggressive oversight of the agency,” said Smith. (Read more)

- Lord God, we thank you for these opportunities for justice, and righteousness to come forth! We pray for boldness, courage, and protection for those who wish to come forward with the truth. And we cover this committee in your blood Jesus that no harm or evil will come near it in Jesus name!

- “Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” (1 John 3:18)

7. Biden approves sending 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, in reversal - Fox News

President Biden on Wednesday approved the U.S. to send 31 Abrams M1 tanks to Ukraine just hours after German Chancellor Olaf Scholtz said Ukraine would also receive Leopard 2 tanks from Berlin as Russia plans for a major offensive.

The president, joined by Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Defense Secretary Antony Blinken, described the vehicles as the "most capable tanks in the world" and said they "will enhance Ukraine’s ability" on the battlefield.
Biden said Western aid to Ukraine "is not an offensive threat to Russia."
"This is about freedom, freedom for Ukraine, freedom everywhere," he added.

Senior defense officials told reporters Wednesday that between tanks supplied from the U.S., U.K, Germany, France, the Netherlands and Sweden, along with tank shipments expected to be announced by other European nations in the coming days, Ukraine can expect to receive "hundreds" of desperately needed tanks. (Read more)

- Lord God, we know that your heart is for everyone all over the world to know you and have a relationship with you. I pray for everyone in Ukraine, Russia and the entire world that they would come to know you and to have a relationship with you. And no matter what they go through, pains, persecutions they can count it all joy because they will be with you one day. In Jesus name amen.

- “Consider it nothing but joy, my [a]brothers and sisters, whenever you fall into various trials. 3 Be assured that the testing of your faith [through experience] produces endurance [leading to spiritual maturity, and inner peace].” (James 1:2-3)

8. Kamala Harris Returns to California to Push Gun Control After Mass Shootings - Brietbart

Vice President Kamala Harris is traveling to California on Wednesday in the wake of several mass shootings that have shocked the state and the nation — but which defy talking points about gun control or extremism.

The Los Angeles Times reports:
Vice President Kamala Harris will travel to Monterey Park on Wednesday to honor the victims of one of the three mass shootings that have left her home state reeling this week.

Harris will lay a wreath at a memorial in honor of the 11 people killed by a gunman at a dance studio during a Lunar New Year celebration on Saturday night. She will meet with victims’ families and Brandon Tsay, the 26-year-old worker who disarmed the gunman at a second dance club. (Read more)

- Lord God we pray for all those grieving that they would feel your love, your peace, and your joy even though they are going through this tragedy. We pray that our leaders would lead those grieving in the right direction and not take advantage of their loss to push a political agenda in Jesus name amen.

- “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)

The Daily Jot

Stupidocrisy: Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah

The Daily Jot, Bill Wilson, January 25, 2023

In recent years it started with Hillary Clinton having classified emails on a server in her bedroom closet. Then came Donald Trump having classified documents at his home in Florida. Then it was Joe Biden having classified documents since he was Vice President sitting behind his corvette in his home’s garage. Now it’s former Vice President Mike Pence’s turn, with classified documents found at his home. Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah. There’s a pattern here. It’s not hard to make the jump that all these people, probably from the time that they started classifying documents, have had classified documents at one time or another in their personal possession. It’s not the classified docs. There’s more to the story.

The enemy doesn’t need to break into the White House to get this stuff. They just need to hang out behind Joe’s garage, or be some politician’s house cleaner. They might be able to find out something of interest. I don’t think so. I think there is something else going on. In Clinton’s case, it was the powers that wanted to draw attention away from the millions upon millions she was bilking from the Russians in her pay for influence scheme. It took a back of the plane meeting on an airport tarmac between her former president husband and the Democrat Attorney General Loretta Lynch to call off the dogs. Then the FBI was on again off again before the 2016 election about Clinton’s guilt over the classified emails.

Update: the “Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act" (H.R. 26)
On January 12th,  the 118th U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill which mandates life-saving measures for babies that are born alive after an abortion, and another bill condemning the recent attacks on pro-life facilities, groups and churches.

The House passed 220-210 HR 26, known as the “Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act,” sponsored by Rep. Ann Wagner (R-MO). All Republican members voted in favor of the bill. Two Democrats, Reps. Henry Cuellar and Vicente Gonzalez, both of South Texas, also voted in favor of the bill and “present,” respectively.

The bill would require abortion facilities and medical providers to treat babies born alive after a failed abortion with the same level of care as they would any other newborn. If an abortion results in the live birth of an infant, the child is considered a legal person for all purposes under the laws of the United States and is entitled to all the protections of such laws.

The bill states, “Any health care practitioner present at the time the child is born alive shall (A) exercise the same degree of professional skill, care, and diligence to preserve the life and health of the child as a reasonably diligent and conscientious health care practitioner would render to any other child born alive at the same gestational age; and (B) following the exercise of skill, care, and diligence required under subparagraph (A), ensure that the child born alive is immediately transported and admitted to a hospital.”

HR 26 also adds penalties for medical providers that do not comply, and they could be subject to civil liability and criminal charges. For example, the bill specifies that “to prohibit a health care practitioner from failing to exercise the proper degree of care in the case of a child who survives an abortion or attempted abortion shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for not more than 5 years, or both.” (Source: Liberty Counsel)
- Father God, we now ask for swift passage of this critical bill for LIFE in the U.S. Senate. We pray that the hearts of these senators will be softened to turn toward the needs of these born-alive infants, so that this bill will pass. We ask for a miracle, in Your Name, amen and amen!

- "‘Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You." (Jer. 32:17)

'That’s the only thing that kept us alive':
Survivors shaken by Houston-area tornado
The mayor of the Houston suburb of Deer Park said he was amazed that no one was harmed by the twister, which was given a rating of “at least” EF2 strength Wednesday morning by the National Weather Service.

Severe thunderstorms took aim at the Gulf Coast on Tuesday, spawning numerous tornadoes that created widespread damage from Texas to Louisiana. The Houston area felt the brunt of the storms as a powerful twister ripped through neighborhoods and downpours prompted water rescues on Tuesday. As the sun rose on Wednesday, the extent of the damage could be seen across parts of Texas.

As the strong tornado ripped through several Houston-area suburbs just before 2:30 p.m. CST Tuesday, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a rare tornado emergency for the suburbs of Pasadena and Deer Park due to the storm’s life-threatening impacts.

Extreme Meteorologist Reed Timmer was reporting live from Deer Park shortly after the tornado passed by, making sure local residents were safe in a shopping center that was completely littered with debris.

"The tornado has just come through … emergency personnel are responding, and we're going to shift into search and rescue mode here," Timmer said in an update. "This is a dangerous situation." Read More

'Babies Go to Congress': Mothers & Kids Share Their Message Pregnancy Centers 'Save Moms and Babies Lives'
Three mothers, three kids, and a powerful pro-life plea took place on Capitol Hill Thursday. A group of women met with lawmakers as part of Heartbeat International's "Babies Go to Congress Campaign". Their message: pregnancy centers are great for America. These moms and babies are living proof of the good pro-life resource centers can be.
Each mother told a different story about how their life - and their baby's - was saved.

Since the campaign's first trip in 2009, the group has sent more than 180 moms and babies to Capitol Hill visiting nearly 400 congressional offices. (CBN) Read More

Trust and Obey

Words: John Sammis
Music: Daniel Towner

Scripture: O Lord Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in You. Psalm 84:11–12

Lyrics:
When we walk with the Lord
In the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain
Trust and obey,
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.

Not a shadow can rise,
Not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear,
Not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

Refrain

Not a burden we bear,
Not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss,
Not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.

Refrain

But we never can prove
The delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows,
For the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

Then in fellowship sweet
We will sit at His feet.
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way.
What He says we will do,
Where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.

Refrain
