TODAY'S TOP STORY
Legendary Union Pacific Railroad Police Arrive in the Wild West to Quell Train Robberies

LOS ANGELES, California — It’s been 121 years since the Wild Bunch blew apart a Union Pacific train in Wyoming and stole $30,000 in the famous Great Train Robbery depicted in countless movies. Back then, the Union Pacific Police Department was on the job, chasing down outlaws Jesse James, the Dalton Gang, and the Younger brothers, who all targeted trains carrying valuable cargo traveling between America’s two coasts.

Now, in 2022, the fabled successors to the Pinkerton Detective Agency are once again called to tame the Wild West. Six Union Pacific agents have arrived to stop a new trend that has seen $5 million in goods stolen during the past year from trains leaving Los Angeles's beleaguered ports.

“This is a legendary police force dating back to the 1800s, and our officers are excited that they’re here to curtail this huge crime problem along the tracks,” Los Angeles Police Department Capt. German Hurtado told the Washington Examiner. “In the Old West, they brought robbers to justice, and I’m sure it will be no different in our era.”

Every day, approximately 100 ships wait offshore to unload their cargo containers while extra cars are added to trains to move the goods faster. The slow-moving trains now span 2 miles, and when they pull into the Union Pacific depot near downtown Los Angeles, they are an easy target for plunder.

Sometimes the trains are stopped for an hour — and waiting gangs are ready. Groups of up to 30 people open the containers and quickly offload merchandise ranging from television sets to medical supplies to personal items shipped via UPS and FedEx. Boxes are strewn across the tracks epitomizing the frenzied free-for-all that has become a daily occurrence. “This isn’t only a financial and supply-and-demand issue. You see mementos of people’s belongings,” Hurtado said. “We found an urn containing someone’s ashes on the track.”

While the theft is happening nationwide, the biggest haul arguably comes from this depot on the outskirts of downtown Los Angeles where trains are fully loaded from their port departure. The tracks, lowered in the 1960s to keep the eyesore away from public view, run alongside a residential area of 100,000 people.

“Now, 60 years later, it’s a safe haven and concealment for the thieves to pick through, providing them cover,” Hurtado said. “Only a security guard was on staff there, and when he gets a gun pointed at him, he thinks ‘I’m not going to get killed over this.’” (Washington Examiner) Read more here.

- Almighty God, You are aware of this exponential problem of train robberies around the Union Pacific Railroad and the horrendous wickedness of stealing, and the appetites of thieves to take what is not their's.  God, we ask that You dispatch warring angels to cover these trains, protect each and every item being shipped, and protect the trains from damage.  Raise up and enforce a police militia who will have the strength of lions against the rampant thieves.  Stop the thieves by the power of Your might as they see God-assigned angels surrounding these trains.  We pray this into existence today and enlist policemen 24-7 to enforce the law and catch the thieves.  In the mighty Name of Jesus we pray.

- "Thou shalt not steal." (Exodus 20:15)
FOCUS ON ISRAEL

1. Report: Israeli fighter jets, refueling planes hold massive drill aimed at Tehran - Times of Israel

Israeli fighter jets carried out a large drill over the Mediterranean that included practicing mid-air refueling, according to a report in a Saudi-run news outlet Thursday.

The unverified report in London-based Elaph described air maneuvers on Thursday by “an unusually large” contingent of F-15, F-16 and F-35 fighter craft, as well as Boeing mid-air refueling tankers, in what would likely be seen as a warning beacon to Iran amid Israeli threats to take military action in order to stop Tehran’s nuclear program.

Citing an unnamed Arab source, Elaph reported that the “wide” maneuver took place over the Mediterranean. Israeli defense officials, who rarely comment on foreign reports, could not be immediately reached. (Read More)

2. Bennett: Israel is ours because it’s the Jewish homeland, not because of Holocaust - Times of Israel

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on Friday said Israel’s existence is not due to the Holocaust but because it is the ancient homeland of the Jewish people.

The comments came a day after the 80th anniversary of the Wannsee Conference, a meeting of senior Nazi officials by a Berlin lake that is seen as a key moment when Germany began implementing the plan to systematically round up and kill all Jews in Europe.

Bennett said that as prime minister, he was aware of the “tremendous responsibility” he has for “the existence of the Jewish state in the Land of Israel.”  (Read More)

3. Lapid meets senior Palestinian minister in surprise move - YNET News

Foreign Minister Yair Lapid on Sunday met with a senior member of the Palestinian Authority and a close ally of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Hussein al Sheikh in his ministerial capacity oversees civilian and security coordination between the PA and Israel.
Prime Minister Naftali Bennett was advised of the meeting ahead of time, as was Defense Minister Benny Gantz.
Lapid was reported to have met earlier this month with Majid Faraj - the PA's chief of intelligence.
The Foreign Ministry declined to comment on the meeting,
Palestinian sources said al-Sheikh hoped to bring up matters of policy concerning Israeli-Palestinian relations, among other things, during the meeting.

4. Coalition members condemn latest settler attack, with some calling to raze outposts - Times of Israel

An attack Friday by settler extremists on Palestinians and Israeli activists in the northern West Bank drew denunciations from across the political spectrum, with several coalition lawmakers calling to demolish the outpost from which the assailants allegedly came.

Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz called the “terrifying violence” in the Palestinian village of Burin, apparently by a group of Jewish extremists from the nearby Givat Ronen outpost, a “pogrom.”

“Condemnation is not enough. The perpetrators must be stopped and prosecuted, and the wild outposts from which the violence came must be evacuated,” Horowitz, who heads the left-wing Meretz party, said in a statement hours after footage was released from the scene showing settlers attacking with clubs and stones, wounding at least six and burning a car. (Read More)

5. Government not expected to renew Green Pass - Israel National News

On Saturday night, the government's expert advisory committee on Covid-19 met and after discussion, resolved to recommend to the government that the Green Pass restrictions not be renewed when they expire next week.

According to a report in Behadrey Haredim, the position of the experts is that, "Booster shots are sufficiently preventative against serious illness, but with the Omicron variant, vaccines are insufficiently protective against infection."

According to members of the advisory committee, the situation in which gatherings under Green Pass restrictions were considered safe due to the fact that all those present were vaccinated, no longer prevails; such gatherings are no longer considered "safe" in that those present are not protected against being infected by COVID. Therefore, a feeling of security in such situations is potentially dangerous, as it could lead to those present not taking proper precautions against contagion. In addition, there no longer exists any justification for barring those who are not vaccinated from such venues. (Read More)

1. US embassy in Ukraine ‘requests staff evacuation’ amid war fears - The Guardian
  • The US embassy in Ukraine has requested the evacuation of all non-essential staff amid increasing fears of an imminent Russian invasion and the arrival overnight of arms deliveries promised by President Joe Biden, according to a CNN report.

US evacuations are likely to start “as early as next week”, the US cable news network said, citing a source close to the Ukrainian government. It marks the embassy’s shift in focus towards “helping Ukraine bolster its defences in the face of growing Russian aggression”.  (Read more)

- Father, we ask that You equip Ukraine with what it needs to defend itself against a Russian invasion. We pray a safe and swift evacuation from the embassy.

- "Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”   (Psalm 82:4)

2. Russia-Ukraine tensions: First US shipment of 'lethal' aid arrives - Fox News

The U.S. delivered its first shipments of promised assistance to Ukraine Friday night, including "lethal" aid, as part of ongoing efforts to deter Russian invasion.

The shipment includes around 200,000 pounds of ammunition and weapons for frontline defenders. The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv hailed the shipment – delivered by airplane – as part of $2.7 billion of investments made in Ukraine.

The embassy also said the shipment "demonstrates the U.S. commitment to helping Ukraine bolster its defenses in the face of growing Russian aggression."

The U.S. has remained defiant and refused to allow Russia to dictate how NATO operates, saying it will uphold the open door policy for any nation to join – including Finland and Sweden, which may now view NATO as necessary protection against a country that shows no sign of deescalating a tense situation. (Read more)

- Father, protect Ukraine and may other countries help defend them from Russia. Bring confusion to Russia's plans.

- "All of them are put to shame and confounded; the makers of idols go in confusion together." (Isaiah 45:16)

3. 'Russian recognition of breakaway Ukraine regions would make war necessary' - Israel Hayom

Russian-backed separatists in east Ukraine would expect Russia's army to fight with them against Ukrainian government forces if Moscow follows through on a parliamentary proposal to recognize their independence, a pro-Kremlin lawmaker said on Thursday.

Alexander Borodai made the comment after 11 lawmakers proposed that parliament ask President Vladimir Putin to recognize the independence of the breakaway Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

Such a move would mark a major escalation by Russia after weeks of mounting tensions around Ukraine. A Russian military buildup and threatening rhetoric have stoked Western fears of a looming invasion, though Moscow denies any such plan.

"In the event of [the republics] being recognized, a war will become a direct necessity," Borodai said. (Read more)

- Father, we pray and intercede to prevent this war between Russia and Ukraine from happening. Reveal ideas and actions that can prevent war from breaking out, we pray, in Jesus' name, amen and amen.

- "Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour." (1 Peter 5:8)

4. Ukraine president thanks Biden for diplomatic and military assistance - Jerusalem Post
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Friday said in a tweet that he was grateful to US President Joe Biden for Washington's "unprecedented" diplomatic and military assistance.

Separately Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said he had spoken to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken about this week's talks with Russia, after Russia massed tens of thousands of troops near Ukraine's borders. (Read more)

Father God, we look to Your almighty power to strengthen the reinforcements who will stand with the Ukrainian people and protect them by the miracle-working power of God.  Lord, we pray you will send an array of angelic lights over Ukraine that the Russians will see, and they fearfully run away.  Ukraine is small and Russia is large, so we pray for Your mighty intervention that will hold Russia back from attacking Ukraine. We pray in Jesus' Name.

- "Behold, the Lord has instructed many, and You have strengthened the weak hands.  Your Words have upheld them that were falling, and You have strengthened the feeble knees."  (Job 4:3-4)

5. Russia proposes interim nuke deal to Iran, with US aware of talks on matter – Times of Israel

Russia has discussed with Iran the possibility of an interim deal that would see limited sanctions relief in return for reimposing some restrictions on Tehran’s nuclear program, the NBC network reported Friday. The outlet said the US “is aware” of the proposal, and cited multiple unnamed sources for its reporting — two US officials, one Congressional official, one former US official and four other people familiar with the details of the talks.

The sources said that while the US was aware of the discussions between Moscow and Tehran in recent weeks, US President Joe Biden’s administration was making efforts to distance itself from the proposal by Russia. The officials told the US news outlet that Tehran has thus far rejected the proposal.

The US sources reportedly said that if Iran were to agree to it, it would be seen as a step toward a full deal in the future. If an interim agreement were to be agreed upon as a first step toward a renewed deal, some US lawmakers would likely insist it must be submitted to Congress for review. (Read more)

 - Father, we pray the U.S. would be vigilant in this proposed deal that Russia is forming. Give us foresight on Russia's motives.

- "Remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose,’ " (Isaiah 46:9-10)

6. Virginia Asks Court to Toss Lawsuit Challenging Ban of School Mask Mandates - The Epoch Times

Virginia's new attorney general has asked a court to dismiss a lawsuit brought against Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s executive order banning school mask mandates. Attorney General Jason Miyares, a Republican like Youngkin, told the Virginia Supreme Court that the parents who sued lack standing and did not adequately state their case. “The Court should dismiss the petition for three independent reasons,” Miyares said in a filing (pdf).

“First, petitioners lack standing because they have failed to identify any cognizable injury of any kind, or to explain how any such injury is particularized to them. Second, the petition seeks relief that is unavailable in this Court’s original jurisdiction, as neither mandamus nor prohibition is a substitute for the injunctive relief petitioners seek from this Court. Finally, even if the petitioners had standing and their petition were procedurally proper, this Court should reject their claim on the merits because they have failed to identify a ‘clear right … to the relief sought.'”

The parents cited a state law that took effect last year that ordered school districts to offer in-person learning.

“For the purposes of this act, each school board shall (i) adopt, implement, and, when appropriate, update specific parameters for the provision of in-person instruction and (ii) provide such in-person instruction in a manner in which it adheres, to the maximum extent practicable, to any currently applicable mitigation strategies for early childhood care and education programs and elementary and secondary schools to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 that have been provided by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,” the law states.

Because the federal agency currently recommends universal masking in schools, Youngkin’s order, which enables parents to decide whether their children wear masks or not, is “in direct conflict” with the law, the suit stated.

Miyares disagreed, telling the court that the bill directs schools to follow guidelines from the centers, or the CDC. “Neither it nor these guidelines impose a ‘mask mandate,'” he said. (Read more)

- Almighty God, we pray You move the people to support Gov. Younkin's executive order banning school mask mandates. We pray that nothing that the liberals can do will stand nor bear any weight to countermand this order.  Strengthen mightily this governor's leadership and surround him with solid supporters so Virginia can lead the way for national liberation from the leftist's control.  We pray in the Name of Jesus.

- "By the blast of God they perish, and by the wrath of His nostrils are they consumed."  (Job 4:9)

7. Americans are quitting at record rates. These 5 states are leading the pack.- CBS

A record number of American workers quit their jobs before the holidays, but the trend wasn't evenly spread across the nation. Employees in a handful of states handed in their resignations at a much higher rate than the national average, according to new government data.

About 4.5 million people quit their jobs in November, an all-time high, the government said earlier this month. But on Friday, the Labor Department provided a state-by-state peek at where workers are quitting, noting that 22 states experienced an increase in the so-called "quits rate" in November, while only 2 states experienced a decline in worker resignations.

Below are the 5 states with the highest quits rates in November:

·       Georgia - 4.5%

·       New Hampshire - 4.5%

·       Vermont - 4.4%

·       North Dakota - 4.3%

·       Kentucky - 4.2%

- Almighty God, we pray that the pandemic fear will be lifted off all the workers on jobs in the United States.  Lord, we ask that this Chinese curse will be broken off the minds of the American people having normal jobs.  Bring mass deliverance, Oh God, from this "quitting" mentality that is senseless.  Bring sanity back to the minds of our American workers.  Liberate Americans' minds by the delivering power of the Blood of Jesus, the prayers of the Christians and the solid belief in the God of miracles.  We pray in the Name of Jesus.

- "The Lord has broken the staff of the wicked, and the scepter of the rulers."   (Isaiah 14:5)

8. 'Everything is Coming Together:' Pro-Lifers Say the End of Roe v. Wade is Closer Than Ever - CBN

Today is the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C., taking place on the anniversary of the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade ruling that invented a right to abortion.

Now, 49 years after that decision, a cultural shift is taking place in America. Abortion clinics are closing as more pro-life pregnancy centers open up, outnumbering them by a rate of four to one. And with a more conservative Supreme Court, they see a real chance to strike down Roe.

For 25 years, the National Institute of Family and Life Advocates, also known as NIFLA, has equipped pregnancy centers to serve women and their communities. Now, after all the time, work and money, its leaders and supporters are talking about the potential end of legalized abortion in America.

The numbers and accomplishments help tell the story of how the group helps women choose life via some 1,600 U.S. pregnancy centers and the introduction of using ultrasounds to the pro-life movement. (Read more)

- Father God, we are praying for an awesome miracle for You to destroy Roe v. Wade forever.  We speak death to Roe v. Wade today, and all the ungodly doors it has opened up over the years to kill these precious unborn babies.  We praise the Name of Jesus for taking this thing down forever.  We rejoice in the power of God to strip the enemy of its long-stated destruction.  In the Name of Jesus we pray.

- "The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death."   (Prov. 13:14)
9. Iran, Russia and China begin naval drill to boost marine security - Israel Hayom

Iran's state TV said 11 of its vessels were joined by three Russian ships including a destroyer, and two Chinese vessels. Iran's Revolutionary Guard will also participate with smaller ships and helicopters.

The report said the maneuvers would cover some 17,000 square kilometers, or 10,600 miles, in the Indian Ocean's north, and include night fighting, rescue operations and firefighting drills.

This is the third joint naval drill between the countries since 2019. It coincided with a recent visit by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Russia that ended on Thursday. (Read more)

- Father, we pray nothing will proceed ahead of Your timing for the end of the age. Let not our hearts be troubled when we see these things happening.

- "Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. Therefore we know that it is the last hour."           (1 John 2:18)

Highway 1 fire: Wildfire burns near Big Sur, prompts evacuations in Monterey County

A wildfire near California's scenic Highway 1, which winds along the Pacific coastline, prompted evacuation orders in Monterey County on Friday night.

The Colorado Fire was sparked in Palo Colorado Canyon in the Big Sur region, according to the county's office of emergency services. A portion of Highway 1 was closed in both directions, the Department of Transportation said in a tweet Saturday. The road is closed for about 21 miles, between the entrance to Andrew Molera Park in Big Sur to Rio Road in Carmel.
Evacuation orders are mandatory for "all areas West of 3800 Palo Colorado Rd. to Highway 1 and south to Bixby Creek," Monterey County officials said. It's unclear how many residents are impacted by the order.
The fire had burned around 100 acres when the evacuation order was issued Friday, CNN affiliate KCRA reported. By Saturday morning, it had burned through 1,500 acres in Monterey County, and was only 5% contained, according to Cal Fire.

A CalFire unit said it sent four engines to help fight the fire. And there were 13 agencies responding to help fight the fire, KCRA reported.
This fire can be seen from Santa Cruz County, even though it is about 70 miles away in Monterey County, CalFire said.

The Red Cross is assisting with shelter at Carmel Middle School for those affected by the wildfire, county officials said in a tweet. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals also tweeted that it will provide emergency pet supplies at that shelter.

Monterey County is home to about 430,000 residents. (Read more)

'Equality Started in the Womb!' Powerful Moments from the 2022 March for Life
They came from all over the country, braving frigid January temperatures in Washington DC to make their voices heard on one of the most contentious – and important – issues of our day: life.

Organizers say at least 50,000 people packed the streets of our nation’s capital for the 49th annual March for Life, and as seen on the CBN News live stream, the demographics of attendees varied greatly and included a significant number of young people.

The march kicked off with music from artist Jordan St. Cyr, who filled in for Matthew West after West revealed he was dealing with COVID and could not attend. March for Life President Jeanne Mancini remarked that this year’s crowd was the most enthusiastic she’d ever seen, and this was her 10th march.

Father Mike Schmitz, who is well known for the wildly popular Bible in a year app, drew thunderous applause when he took to the stage. “Every person matters. Every life matters,” Schmitz said during his remarks.

There were several powerful testimonies during the hour plus long speaker portion of the event, including 36-year-old Katie Shaw. She rallied the crowd, saying “you and I have been given a chance to fight for equality in the womb. By fighting together, we can make a difference in the world. As we march, let’s remember Psalm 139. “You knit me together in my mother’s womb, I am fearfully and wonderfully made, wonderful are your works that I know full well. In your book were written all the days that were formed for me, when non of them had yet existed.” (CBN) Read more.

Scripture: We also are weak in Him, yet by God’s power we shall live with Him. 2 Corinthians 13:4

Lyrics:
I am weak, but Thou art strong;
Jesus, keep me from all wrong;
I’ll be satisfied as long
As I walk, let me walk close to Thee.

Refrain

Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

Through this world of toil and snares,
If I falter, Lord, who cares?
Who with me my burden shares?
None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee.

Refrain

When my feeble life is o’er,
Time for me will be no more;
Guide me gently, safely o’er
To Thy kingdom shore, to Thy shore.

Refrain
