Pastors Bring Hope Amid Devastation as Wildfires Continue to Ravage Los Angeles

Pastors and Christian ministries are mobilizing to provide relief for those affected by the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles, California. Pastor...
Pastors and Christian ministries have launched relief efforts for those impacted by the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles, California. Pastor Chad Veach of the Zoe Church, which is about five miles from the blaze, shared that he is grieving with his community and is providing spiritual guidance.
"It's knowing that God is still in control," Veach said. "I don't want to just bypass that moment and throw a Scripture on it. We're ambassadors of hope, navigating this as sensitively and appropriately as possible for those who are fearful and have lost their homes."
Zoe Church is currently partnering with organizations, including the Los Angeles Dream Center, led by Pastor Matthew Barnett, to collect and distribute emergency supplies to victims.
Pastor Greg Laurie of Harvest Church in Riverside, California, is urging Christians to pray for rain and that the fires would be contained.
"At this point, there's zero containment. We need some divine intervention," Laurie said. He has also set up a donation fund through his church to support relief efforts. "Lord, we need the winds to stop. It would even be a little better if the rain came too," he prayed.
During an interview with CBN News, Laurie shared that Harvest Church has established a relief fund at harvest.org to provide practical and spiritual help to those in need.
"It's so devastating, and I know houses can be rebuilt, but when you've built your own home, or you've lived there for years or maybe generations, and to lose your home and your possessions, he said.
The Harvest Crusades founder added, "This is really traumatizing for people so it's an opportunity for us to step into a place of pain and suffering and difficulty and minister." (Crosswalk) Read more here.

Senate Clears Key Hurdle on Laken Riley Act with Help from 33 Democrats, Schedules Next Vote on Monday
|
|
Thirty-three Senate Democrats voted with Republicans Thursday to clear a key procedural hurdle on the Laken Riley Act.
The 84-9 vote easily cleared the 60-vote threshold to allow a vote to debate on the legislation – and potential amendments.
The Laken Riley Act would require DHS to take into custody illegal aliens arrested, charged, or convicted for burglary, theft, larceny, or shoplifting. The bill, named after the 22-year-old nursing student who was brutally murdered last year in Georgia by an illegal alien released into the United States interior, passed the House Wednesday.
While it faces additional hurdles before becoming law, the legislation has real momentum.
“This is an important issue. We should have a debate and amendments,” Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said from the Senate floor before voting for the measure. “To remind my colleagues, this is not a vote on the bill itself. It is a motion to proceed, a vote that says we should have a debate and should have amendments.”
As Majority Leader last year, Schumer blocked the Laken Riley Act from consideration on the floor, so his vote to proceed to the bill is significant. Democrats are wrestling with how to approach immigration and the border after President-elect Donald Trump battered President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris over the issue last year.
The Senate is expected to vote Monday evening on the motion to proceed to the bill, after which point many Democrats will want to amend the bill. The bill appears to have enough support to pass in its unamended form, and it is uncertain what strategy Democrats will take with regards to pursuing amendments. Read more

Donald Trump Sentenced With No Penalty in New York Criminal Trial, as Judge Wishes Him "Godspeed" in 2nd Term
|
|
President-elect Donald Trump was sentenced to an unconditional discharge Friday after being found guilty on charges of falsifying business records stemming from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s yearslong investigation.
The president-elect attended his sentencing virtually after fighting to block the process all the way up to the United States Supreme Court this week. Trump sat beside his defense attorney Todd Blanche.
Judge Juan Merchan did not sentence the president-elect to prison, and instead sentenced him to an unconditional discharge, meaning there is no punishment imposed: no jail time, fines or probation. The sentence also preserves Trump's ability to appeal the conviction.
"After careful analysis, this court determined only lawful sentence that permits entry of judgment of conviction is an unconditional discharge," Merchan said Friday. "At this time, I impose that sentence to cover all 34 counts." Read more

Father, we once again pray for justice in this matter, that this sentence will be reversed on appeal. The fact that this judge did not impose harsher penalties reveals that it was a political sham in the first place.

FEMA Kicks Hurricane Survivors Out of Temporary Housing into Snowstorm and Freezing Temperatures

Residents of Western North Carolina are confused about the Federal Emergency Management Agency's role in helping locals with disaster recovery after Hurricane Helene.
Locals are especially confused as FEMA plans to end temporary housing assistance for about 2,000 North Carolina residents on Saturday — during a snowstorm, when temperatures across the Appalachian Mountain region are expected to be below 20 degrees.
The housing program was initially supposed to end on Friday, but FEMA pushed the deadline back to Saturday.
"I'm actually talking to several people that are losing the FEMA vouchers," Ryan McClymonds, founder of volunteer group Operation Boots on the Ground in WNC and Eastern Tennessee, told Fox News Digital on Friday. "They're terrified that they're going to have nowhere to stay for their families after today. But we did find out last night pretty late … that FEMA is extending it a whole whopping 24 hours." Biden Extends Deportation Protections to Hundreds of Thousands in Final Days of Administration

The Biden administration announced on Friday it will provide protections to hundreds of thousands of El Salvadoran nationals living in the United States, citing stormy weather and heavy rain that took place in the country.
The roughly 234,000 El Salvadoran beneficiaries of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) will be allowed to register for an 18-month extension, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced on Friday. The move marks the latest last-minute push to extend deportation protections to illegal migrants and other foreign nationals living in the U.S before President-elect Donald Trump resumes office and gets to work on his sweeping immigration enforcement agenda.

Four IDF soldiers were killed and six were wounded during fighting in the northern Gaza Strip this morning, the military announces.
The slain troops are named as:

2. Netanyahu dispatches top negotiators to Qatar talks amid push to seal hostage deal - Times of Israel
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office announced Saturday evening that he had decided to send a high-level delegation to Qatar to join efforts to seal a hostage-ceasefire deal with the Hamas terror group.
The team departing Saturday night includes Mossad chief David Barnea, Shin Bet director Ron Bar, IDF hostage point man Maj. Gen. (res.) Nitzan Alon, and Netanyahu’s political adviser Ophir Falk.
The decision was made after Netanyahu held a situation assessment on the ongoing hostage talks. He was joined at the meeting by Defense Minister Israel Katz, Israel’s security chiefs, and officials from the Biden administration and incoming Trump administration. (Read more)

3. Israeli security foils Islamic Jihad shooting attack - World Israel News
Israeli security forces arrested two Palestinian terrorists near Shechem (Nablus) on their way to carry out a shooting attack, the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) said on Sunday.
The terrorists were identified as Ahmed Zakharna, 21, and Tariq Abu Zeid, 25. The two residents of Qabatiya, near Jenin, are members of Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

4. IDF Targets Hezbollah Terrorists as Lebanese Army Deploys - Algemeiner
JNS.org – Israeli Air Force craft on Saturday targeted terrorists exiting a “military” building in Southern Lebanon that belonged to Hezbollah, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said.
After their detection, the IAF acted to “remove the threat,” the statement continued.
“The IDF continues to be committed to the ceasefire understandings between Israel and Lebanon, is deployed in the Southern Lebanon region and will act to remove any threat to the State of Israel and its citizens,” the military added.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese Armed Forces said in a statement on X that its troops were completing their deployment in eight towns near the Israeli border, as well as in the coastal area between Naqoura and Tyre, ahead of the projected withdrawal of the IDF by the end of the month. (Read more)

5. Sydney synagogue sprayed with antisemitic graffiti in latest attack on Australian Jews - Reuters
SYDNEY, Jan 11 (Reuters) - A synagogue in Sydney was daubed in antisemitic graffiti, police said on Saturday, a day after the antisemitic vandalism of a separate synagogue in the New South Wales state capital.
Australia has seen a series of antisemitic incidents in the last year, including graffiti on buildings and cars in Sydney, as well as an arson attack on a synagogue in Melbourne that police have ruled as terrorism.
In the latest incident, police said they were notified of graffiti on the synagogue, in the inner suburb of Newtown, early Saturday.
A house in Sydney's east, a hub of the city's Jewish community, was also daubed with antisemitic graffiti, police said, adding they were also probing offensive comments on a street poster in the suburb of Marrickville. (Read more)

President-elect Donald Trump said Thursday that he would release a report on the recent mystery drone sightings reported in New Jersey and other states once he takes office.

Socialist dictator of Venezuela Nicolás Maduro claimed on Wednesday that one of the American citizens his regime took hostage recently on allegations of being a “mercenary” is a “senior FBI official” working to topple his regime.
Venezuelan forces recently arrested two yet-to-be publicly identified American nationals, described by the dictator on Tuesday as “important American mercenaries,” alongside two Colombians and three Ukrainian men. The group of seven foreigners stands accused by of allegedly being part of a “mercenary group” seeking to “generate violence” in the country ahead of Friday, January 10, the date Maduro is slated to be inaugurated for a third illegitimately obtained six-year presidential term.
On Wednesday evening, Maduro, during an official event with members of the regime-controlled National Assembly, claimed that one of the two detained Americans is a “senior FBI official,” while the other one is a “high-ranking military official.” Read more

4. As Biden Releases Terror-Linked Detainees, Trump Vows ‘Hell’ for Hamas over Israeli Hostages – The Washington Stand
Following the Biden administration’s announcement that 11 Yemeni detainees would be released to Oman from the U.S. naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in addition to a possible prisoner swap with the Taliban, experts and lawmakers are expressing alarm that the decisions could lead to future terrorist attacks.
Reports surfaced Monday that the Middle Eastern country of Oman had agreed to settle the detainees, who were captured over suspected ties to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the U.S., which killed almost 3,000 Americans. In a statement from the Department of Defense, the reason given for releasing the detainees is to “reduc[e] the detainee population and ultimately clos[e] the Guantanamo Bay facility.”
While none of the 11 Yemeni men had been charged with a crime, two had served as former bodyguards for former al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, the mastermind behind the September 11 attacks. Ahmed al-Alwi, one of the former bodyguards, “maintain[ed] an extremist mindset” according to a declassified document from 2016. The other former bodyguard, Anam al Sharabi, had trained in Afghanistan before the September 11 attacks and “may have been associated with an aborted 9/11-style hijacking in Southwest Asia led by al-Qa’ida external operations chief Khalid Shaikh Mohammed,” according to a declassified file from 2020.
On Tuesday, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Biden administration is also planning to negotiate a prisoner swap with the Taliban, in which it would release Muhammad Rahim al Afghani, an alleged senior al-Qaeda aide, to the Taliban in exchange for three American prisoners. Read more

5. 'Overwhelming support': Republican governors rally around Trump and DOGE ahead of inauguration - Fox
The nation's Republican governors are making clear their "overwhelming support" for President-elect Trump's planned "Department of Government Efficiency," better known by its acronym DOGE.
In a letter to Congressional leaders that was shared first with Fox News on Friday, the governors said they fully support DOGE and emphasized the importance of balancing the federal budget.
"As chief executives for our states, we know a thing or two about streamlining government, removing unnecessary bureaucracy, and bringing efficient, result-driven solutions to state government. We stand by President Trump as he works to do the same with the federal government," the governors said.
Days after his presidential election victory in November, Trump tapped Elon Musk, the world's richest person, and former Republican presidential candidate and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy to steer DOGE.
The House of Representatives has set up an oversight subcommittee and the Senate has formed a DOGE caucus to work with Musk and Ramaswamy. Read more

6. Jewish Americans sue Biden admin over 'unconstitutional, unprecedented' sanctions regime – Fox
The Biden administration is illegally sanctioning American citizens in Israel and the West Bank, a federal lawsuit filed Thursday claims.
The National Jewish Advocacy Center, Inc. (NJAC), along with Zell Aron & Co. and Marcus & Marcus LLC, filed a federal lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on Thursday, challenging the Biden administration’s Executive Order (EO) 14115.
The lawsuit is the second of its kind against what lawyers argue are unconstitutional, unprecedented sanctions against Jewish people living in Israel and the West Bank, including American citizens like plaintiffs Levi Yitzchak Pilant and Issachar Manne.
Following the Oct. 7 terrorist attack on Israel, President Biden signed an executive order (EO) in February 2024, imposing sanctions on "persons undermining peace, security, and stability in the West Bank."
Biden said, in announcing the EO, that "the situation in the West Bank-in particular high levels of extremist settler violence, forced displacement of people and villages, and property destruction-has reached intolerable levels and constitutes a serious threat to the peace, security, and stability of the West Bank and Gaza, Israel, and the broader Middle East region."
As a result, the sanctioned individuals have had their bank accounts frozen, credit cards canceled and faced an inability to conduct basic life activities. Critics say the move allows the administration to sanction Jews in Israel who disagree with the administration’s policies, which they believe to be a violation of the constitutional rights of U.S. citizens in Israel and their supporters in America. Known as a "planetary parade," this celestial phenomenon will dazzle observers and provide a mesmerizing view for both astronomy enthusiasts and casual skywatchers alike.
What Makes This Alignment Special?
This planetary parade is unique for several reasons. Unlike other alignments that often occur in the early hours of the morning, this event will be visible during the evening, from approximately 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., making it accessible to a wider audience. Hunter Miller, an astronomy educator at the Adler Planetarium, told NBC Chicago that the timing and visibility of this event make it particularly exciting.
“The optimal timing and location of the planets in the sky will vary slightly throughout the month, so I recommend using a sky-observing app like Stellarium to know exactly where to look from your location at any given time,” Miller said in the NBC Chicago interview.
In addition to the alignment itself, this event coincides with a lunar occultation of Mars earlier in the month—a rare occurrence in which the moon temporarily obscures the red planet from view. These phenomena together make January 2025 a landmark month for celestial observation. Read More
