Israel sends rescue, medical teams to Turkey, humanitarian aid to Syria in wake of deadly earthquakes
|
|
The State of Israel is sending aid to Turkey and Syria in the wake of two deadly earthquakes that resulted in more than 3,000 fatalities and thousands of people injured.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu expressed his condolences to the citizens of Turkey on Twitter on Monday, saying that he “instructed all authorities to prepare immediately to provide medical, rescue and relief assistance,” at the request of the Turkish government.
A few hours later, the Israel Defense Forces dispatched a 150-person delegation to the quake-hit nation from an airbase in southern Israel.
“Of these, a third are headquarters and intelligence, and two-thirds have rescue, medical and engineering capabilities,” said the commander of the IDF National Rescue Unit., Col. (Res.) Golan Vach, upon departure.
An IDF spokesperson said that, along with medical and rescue experts, the delegation includes personnel from Israel’s foreign and defense ministries.

Israeli study shows fiber optics can detect earthquake signs early
|
|
An Israeli study published in Nature’s Scientific Reports shows that fiber optics can detect early signs of an earthquake.
Dr. Itzhak Lior and his team, from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem’s Institute of Earth Sciences, conducted the study.
The discovery is especially significant for earthquakes that occur in the seafloor, as such earthquakes are not usually detected until tens of seconds after they occur. Some of the most devastating earthquakes begin at sea.
“Earthquakes that occur in the seafloor or in areas without sensors can result in late detection by existing technologies, which hinders preparedness,” said Lior. “Recently, an innovative method of monitoring earthquakes using fiber optics, including those deployed worldwide for Internet communication, has been widely developed.”
The new method could give early warning about earthquakes up to half a minute sooner than standard methods, which could be critical to saving human lives.
“We have shown that fiber optics can be used in place of traditional sensors to provide early warning, especially for earthquakes that occur at sea. Optical fibers, including those from commercial telecommunications companies, can determine earthquake intensity and damage potential very quickly, adding critical warning seconds for destructive earthquakes,” Lior said. “The use of communication fibers from commercial companies is a very important advantage for earthquake-prone regions such as Chile, Japan, the west coast of North America, and also Israel.” (All Israel News) Read more here.

Military Experts Issue Warnings on Possible US-China Conflict After Spy Balloon Shot Down
|
|
Several former military officials said that the United States could face significant shortfalls if there is ever a conflict with the Chinese regime over Taiwan, coming as U.S. military jets shot down a Chinese spy balloon that drifted across the United States.
“Unfortunately, talking broadly and in overall terms, the Chinese have dramatically increased their air, sea, space, cyber, and missile capabilities in the last couple of decades,” James Anderson, acting undersecretary of defense for policy under President Donald Trump, told Fox News.
“In some of the scenarios that could happen, we might well be at a competitive disadvantage initially because they have home-field advantage in terms of their capacity to quickly mobilize local forces,” he said, “and that’s really important to the [Chinese military].”
Last week, Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas), the new chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives, said the odds of conflict with China over Taiwan “are very high” after a U.S. general released a memo about a potential conflict with the regime in 2025.
Gen. Mike Minihan, who heads the Air Mobility Command, wrote to the leadership of its roughly 110,000 members, saying, “My gut tells me we will fight in 2025.” (The Epoch Times) Read more here.

1. IDF teams begin search and rescue operations in Turkey - Times of Israel
The Israeli military aid delegation to Turkey following the major earthquake has begun to assist in search and rescue operations.
The Home Front Command team was reportedly delayed by several hours due to weather conditions and traffic.

2. Earthquake Felt in Israel (Updated) - Jewish Press
Residents of Israel, in particular, in Jerusalem, Gush Etzion and the Shomron report feeling an earthquake around 11:14 PM on Tuesday evening.
[Update] The earthquake’s epicenter was 15 km east of Ariel and south of Shechem (Nablus), near Jurish and Migdalim. The Geological Survey of Israel and IDF Homefront Command rated it at 3.5 on the Richter scale at a depth of 3 KM (down from the initial assessment of 4.8 on the Richter scale).
Some residents are reporting feeling some aftershocks too.
There have also been a number of smaller (3.4-3.8) earthquakes in central Turkey around the same time. (Read more)

3. Iran unveils underground airbase tasked with responding to potential Israeli assault - Times of Israel
Iran unveiled what it said was its first underground air force base on Tuesday, with the head of the Islamic Republic’s military saying the site would be among those used to launch a response to any potential strikes by Israel or others.
“Any attack on Iran from our enemies, including Israel, will see a response from our many air force bases including Eagle 44,” Iran’s armed forces’ Chief of Staff Mohammad Bagheri told IRNA, according to the Reuters news agency.
IRNA said the Eagle 44 site was one of Iran’s most important military facilities, and would be home to fighter jets equipped with long-range cruise missiles.
“This is the team of Israeli men and women who are on the ground in #Türkiye rescuing people and assisting with emergency relief efforts,” Saranga tweets. “Good luck and a safe and successful mission.” (Read more)

4. Dudi Amsalem to enter government, ending political saga - Jerusalem Post
Likud MK David (Dudi) Amsalem will become Minister in the Justice Ministry, the Regional Cooperation Minister and the Ministerial Liaison to the Knesset, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Tuesday, ending a political saga that has lasted since the coalition negotiations began soon after the November 1 election.
Current Ministerial Liaison to the Knesset Yoav Kisch filed his resignation from the position minutes after the announcement in order to make way for Amsalem.
Amsalem, who received the fourth-most votes in the Likud's primary election in August, initially demanded to become either justice minister or Knesset speaker. He received neither, and publicly criticized Netanyahu. The issue came to a head earlier this week when Amsalem and fellow Likud MK Danny Danon threatened not to support a law proposal that would enable ousted Shas chairman MK Aryeh Deri to return to the Knesset unless one of them became a minister. 5. Netanyahu rejects Biden admin call to ‘pause’ Judea and Samaria construction - JNS
(February 7, 2023 / JNS) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected a call by the Biden administration to temporarily freeze construction in Judea and Samaria and halt demolitions of illegal Arab structures in those territories as well as the eastern part of Jerusalem.
However, while Israeli officials stressed that these activities would not be stopped completely, ad hoc concessions would be made.
According to Axios, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken made the request during his visit to Israel last week, in a bid to de-escalate tensions amid rampant Palestinian terrorism.
Washington reportedly asked that Jerusalem “pause” the actions for several months, and also requested that the Palestinian Authority fully resume security coordination with Israel and postpone any additional steps against it at U.N. institutions and other international bodies. (Read more)

1. House Ethics Committee investigating Rep. George Santos as constituents head to DC - ABC 7 News
One of the congressional representatives who will be at the State of the Union continues to find himself surrounded by controversy.
Some of George Santos' constituents boarded a bus to Washington on Tuesday to confront house Republican leadership and demand that he be removed.
Later Tuesday morning, House Speaker McCarthy confirmed to reporters that the House Ethics Committee is investigating Santos.
"Ethics is moving through, and if Ethics finds something, we'll take action," McCarthy said. Later asked if that statement meant the Ethics Committee is investigating Santos right now, McCarthy said, "yes." (Read more)

2. Biden on verge of imposing historic regulation agenda - Washington Examiner
Even before President Joe Biden unveils a new and costly regulation agenda in Tuesday night's State of the Union address, he has already raced past his two predecessors in imposing one of the most oppressive and costly sets of government rules ever, according to experts.
In a new report previewed by Secrets, the American Action Forum said that Biden's regulatory burden exceeds that of former Presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump at this stage of their presidency.
“At its halfway point, the Biden administration’s regulatory burden totals vastly exceed those of its two immediate predecessors and have done so across a markedly lower volume of rules, with $318 billion in total costs and more than 218 million hours of paperwork,” said the new report from Dan Goldbeck, the director of regulatory policy for AAF.
What’s more, he told Secrets, “I expect the administration’s regulatory pace to continue. For instance, it feels like in recent weeks, I come across at least one or two proposed rules north of a billion dollars in costs each week. 3. Chinese company's North Dakota corn mill project struck down by Grand Forks, prompting cheers of 'USA!' - Fox Business
Officials in Grand Forks, North Dakota, have voted to strike down a Chinese company's proposed corn mill after the U.S. Air Force said its proximity to a military base would pose a national security risk.
The 5-0 unanimous vote Monday night from the Grand Forks City Council surrounding the Fufeng Group project was met with cheers and chants of "USA!" from the public in attendance.
Prior to the meeting, Grand Forks Mayor Brandon Bochenski, during an interview on "The Story with Martha MacCallum," told Fox News that the city had options to "basically deny infrastructure and deny building permits.
"So they have the land, but they have no ability to build anything on it," he added.

4. US releases first images of China spy flight recovery efforts as divers recover debris - Fox News
U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM) released its first official images of the effort to recover debris from the downed Chinese spy balloon Monday night. U.S. Navy and Coast Guard vessels deployed off the coast of South Carolina on Saturday after the U.S. shot down China's surveillance craft. Divers and unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) are working to locate and recover pieces of the downed craft, which military officials say weighed thousands of pounds.
President Biden's administration hopes to gain significant intelligence from the craft, which was allowed to cross the entire continental United States last week.
Once recovered, the debris is being transferred to the FBI facility in Quantico for analysis.
NORTHCOM also released images of the F-22 fighter jet that took off from Langley Air Force Base in Virginia to shoot down the balloon on Saturday. (Read more)

5. Texas border wall construction underway, Gov. Abbott says - Fox News
Texas has resumed building a wall along the state’s border with Mexico, after months of negotiations with private property owners. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott boasted about building a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border on Sunday, posting a video on social media of the wall being constructed.
The video that accompanied the tweet showed a crane maneuvering a section of wall in line with several other panels, and workers plugging it into place. In the forefront was Abbot sitting next to a sign that read, "Securing the border."
Footage of the wall construction was shot on Jan. 30 when Abbott held a press conference at the border to announce the appointment of veteran Border Patrol agent Mike Banks to serve as the first-ever border czar. (Read more)

6. Elon Musk accuses government agency of being 'worst offender in US government censorship - Fox Business
Elon Musk accused a federal agency Monday many have never heard of being the "worst offender in US government censorship & media manipulation.”
Musk, was referring to the State Department's Global Engagement Center (GEC), which journalist Matt Taibbi described as a "fledgling analytic/intelligence" arm to participate in guiding Twitter's moderation of content and how it often used the media to clash with the tech giant beginning in February 2020 as the coronavirus pandemic was underway.
"They are a threat to our democracy," Mush wrote in a subsequent tweet. "That is the line they fed the media about me."
Musk not only went after the U.S. government, but he also blasted the United Nations on Monday.
He shared a video of UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who declared, “We’ll call for action from everywhere with influence on the spread of ‘mis- and disinformation’ on the Internet.” (Read more)

7. CBS tweet about being 'ready to worship' Satanic Sam Smith raises eyebrows - Fox News
A tweet by CBS leading into Sunday night's Grammy Awards caused a stir online with many people left wondering what message the media outlet was trying to send.
CBS responded to a tweet from Singer Sam Smith, which featured a photo of the nonbinary singer in rehearsal wearing devil horns.
"This is going to be SPECIAL," Smith tweeted with a devil emoji.
CBS responded to the tweet, "….you can say that again. We are ready to worship!"
Music video producer and director Robby Starbuck called the tweet an admission CBS was "compromised by evil."
"This is what CBS said to Sam Smith right before he did his demonic performance as Satan. Think about that. They aren’t even trying to hide how compromised by evil they are anymore. It’s all out in the open now," he tweeted. (Read more)

8. Here’s How Much US Farmland Has Been Bought Up By China - The Daily Caller
Ownership of U.S. farmland by Chinese nationals has risen significantly in the last decade and amounted to 338,000 acres as of 2020, according to U.S. Agriculture Department data.
Since 2010, Chinese nationals have reportedly purchased an additional 75,000 acres of U.S. farmland, according to U.S. Agriculture Department data obtained by the WSJ. Although amounting to less than 1% of all U.S. agricultural land held by foreign citizens, ownership of U.S. farmland by Chinese nationals has received increased scrutiny in recent years following warnings from U.S. government officials claiming that the Chinese government may seek to use land for military and espionage purposes, according to the WSJ.
“South Dakota is now the only home of the B-21 Bomber,” South Dakota Republican Governor Kristi Noem said on Friday. “That’s huge for both our state’s economy and our national security, but it also means that hostile countries like China are going to do whatever they can to get intelligence on that bomber.” (Read more)

China Balloons And A Compromised President

In January of 2020, J.R. Nyquist, co-author of “The New Tactics of Global War,” wrote a column for Epoch Times about a speech by a retiring Chinese Defense Minister some 20 years ago that promoted Chinese policy using biological weapons against the America. General Chi Haotian said that the United States not only blocks China’s desires with conquering new lands like Taiwan, Vietnam, India, or Japan, but also has the land mass to solve China’s growing overpopulation problem. The general said, “We are not foolish as to want to perish together with America by using nuclear weapons. Only by using non-destructive weapons that can kill many people will we be able to reserve America for ourselves.”
Chi added that China had seized the opportunity to master weapons of this kind. Fast forward to the so-called “spy balloons.” Joe Biden knew for almost a week about this Communist Chinese spy balloon coming across the Untied States before he did anything about it. This balloon was soaring some 60,000 feet above the country and it was the size of three school busses. It carried a large enough payload that Democrat political hacks were concerned that shooting it down would cause high risk to people below. Then when criticized about their lack of national security concern, these deep state flunkies went into high gear diverting attention to former president Trump rather than face the looming issue of a possible deadly security violation. Before and after satellite images bring earthquake destruction in Turkish towns into full view

Collapsed buildings, emergency vehicles and tent shelters can be seen in new satellite imagery of earthquake-hit towns in Turkey, revealing the damage from Monday’s devastating earthquake.
The images, captured by Maxar Technologies, show the towns of Islahiye and Nurdagi.
In Islahiye, dozens of buildings across the city have collapsed. In the city center, a group of residential buildings just west of the Hacı Ali Öztürk mosque appear flattened.
At least thirteen buildings across roughly two city blocks – all between three and five stories tall – are destroyed.
Just east of the mosque complex, two large buildings are seen destroyed.
The debris of those two buildings, four and six stories tall, litter the street. One of the roofs appears to remain intact, despite the building underneath collapsing.
Further down the street, bulldozers appear to clear another collapsed building.

Pro-Life Doctors Slam American Medical Association for Promoting Abortion
|
|
Pro-life medical doctors in Congress criticized the American Medical Association this week for embracing an increasingly “woke” pro-abortion agenda that endangers children’s lives. According to Axios, several members of the U.S. House Doctors Caucus, which is pro-life, spoke out after meeting with leaders of the association last week to discuss various policy matters. U.S. Rep. Brad Wenstrup, a pro-life Republican and Ohio medical doctor, said what the AMA is saying and doing often are two different things. “[W]hen they told us their priorities, they aligned with our priorities. But it’s like, it doesn’t look like those are your priorities. What looks like your priorities are abortion and transgender issues,” Wenstrup, co-chair of the caucus, told Axios. “It looks like all you care about are woke issues.”
He and others pointed to various pro-abortion actions by the association in recent years, including a statement claiming abortion (the unnecessary and intentional killing of unborn babies) is health care and restricting it is a “violation of human rights.” Tens of thousands of doctors say otherwise, that babies in the womb are human beings who deserve rights and medical care, too. But Jack Resneck, president of the AMA, dismissed their concerns in an interview with Axios, saying doctors are not always going to agree on every policy matter. “Yes, there are going to be a few issues that we don’t always agree on …” he said. However, “we have really strong relationships with members of Congress and I’m confident that will continue to be the case.”
But the association’s position on abortion is extreme in most Americans’ opinions, too. AMA leaders publicly have criticized even modest abortion regulations, calling them dangerous and “unacceptable.” In contrast, most Americans support and most countries across the world enforce laws that restrict killing unborn babies in abortions after the first trimester. - Father, we praise You for those opposing AMA's stance on abortion! May a heart of repentance fall upon many in the medical field who have not encouraged protecting life in the womb. We pray against satan's lies of disguising pro-choice beliefs as "freedom" for women through having the "right" to choose. We pray for righteousness and right-alignment in the AMA and in our nation, according to Your Word! In the powerful name of Jesus- Amen.
