Same-sex marriage vote delayed by House Democrats to use as potential leverage for defense bill
|
|
House Democrats delayed voting on a bill Tuesday to codify same-sex marriage protections in order to potentially use the legislation as leverage with their members for a must-pass defense policy measure.
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said it was “under consideration” to tie the Respect for Marriage Act to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) during a procedural process later this week. The intention would be to win over progressives who are threatening to tank the annual defense bill because it may include controversial energy-permitting legislation by Sen. Joe Manchin III.
Mr. Hoyer, Maryland Democrat, vowed that the same-sex marriage bill will pass “one way or another.”
The legislation, which cleared the Senate 61-36 last week and includes a religious liberty carveout, would make same-sex marriage the law of the land amid concerns from Democrats that the conservative-leaning Supreme Court may overturn constitutional right to such marriages as it did with abortion earlier this year.
The House is now expected to pass it on Thursday. (Read more)

Iran should be scared: Israel and the US hold joint military drills
|
|
The Israel Defense Forces released footage of the joint military exercises it held with the U.S. military this week. Iran is likely watching the drills very closely for obvious reasons.
Four of Israel’s F-35I Adir fighter jets flew alongside four American F-15 airframes, and several of Israel’s F-15I jets were refueled midair by a U.S. KC-135 aircraft.
A formation of U.S. and Israeli aircraft is depicted in photographs published by the IDF on Twitter. Aimed to progress joint plans for offensive missions against the Islamic Republic of Iran, the military exercise was confirmed during IDF Chief Aviv Kohavi’s Washington visit last week.
These joint U.S.-Israeli aerial drills come amidst soaring tensions over Tehran’s proximity to achieving nuclear capabilities and general regional instability. The exercise in part is likely intended to deter the Iranian regime from escalating its hostile activities further. (Center for Security Policy) Read more here.

Senators push last-minute bipartisan deal to boost border security, legalize 'Dreamers'
|
|
Senators are seeking to pass a bipartisan immigration bill to tighten border security in return for a pathway to citizenship for 2 million people who were brought to the United States illegally as children.
Sens. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) have reached an initial deal on concessions that each party would have to make to pass immigration reforms in the lame-duck session before the year’s end, according to a Washington Post opinion writer who obtained a copy of the plan's top points.
The proposal states that the Department of Homeland Security would receive a big boost in resources to help its asylum officers and immigration judges start and finish claims of asylum faster, as well as court proceedings for the 2 million people who illegally crossed the southern border over the past year.
DHS would also receive more resources to speed up the removal of noncitizens who do not meet the guidelines for asylum.
Democrats would get a permanent solution for "Dreamers," noncitizens who were approved for the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, to work legally in the country and avoid deportation for two years at a time.
Republicans would also score a huge win: the short-term continuation of Title 42, a public health emergency protocol that allows U.S. border officials to turn away illegal immigrants immediately rather than take people into custody. Title 42 would end once new DHS processing centers open. (Read more)

Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) and Thom Tillis (R-NC), who have authored this bill, and we ask for favor on the Senate floor when it comes to a vote. Thank You, Lord, in Your name, amen and amen.

1. Netanyahu to ask for more time to form government - Israel National News
The mandate Prime Minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu received from President Isaac Herzog to form the government will expire in five days, and Netanyahu will ask for a two-week extension to complete the coalition negotiations.
President Herzog will grant Netanyahu an extension of several days, but before that he will require Netanyahu to present the progress he has made in the coalition negotiations.
Herzog will ask to hear about the agreements that have already been signed and he will ask why the agreements with the haredi parties are being held up. The president will also be interested in the Likud's intention to pass personal legislation in the Knesset that would allow Shas chairman Aryeh Deri to be appointed to a ministerial position despite his conviction. 2. The most popular person in Israel: Meet the next IDF chief of staff - Israel Hayom
On January 17, 2023, Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi will complete his billet as IDF chief of staff and will begin the process of discharging from the military. That day, Israel's prime minister and defense minister will place the rank insignia on his successor, Herzi Halevi.
He started as a paratrooper, continued to the elite intelligence commando unit Sayeret Matkal and back to the Paratroopers Brigade, followed by the appointment as the head of the IDF Intelligence Directorate and the GOC of all three regional commands. This path primed him for this new position he is about to undertake. Although some have tried to torpedo his appointment and impeach it, nothing has stuck: Halevi's record is beyond reproach, and has all the qualifications necessary to perform well.
As he prepares to assume his new role on the 14th floor of the IDF General Headquarters in the Rabin Base in roughly two months, he will continue a long onboarding process. Although he knows the IDF in and out, he wants to learn and hear out those who may have views he does not share. He is also very much engaged in thought over what to do with various issues that he would have to address upon becoming the chief: operational issues and the organizational structure of the military; the processes that are underway or need to be launched; and the personnel matters. A man who knows Halevi well said this week that he was unlikely to radically change things on day one. "Unlike others, he doesn't talk the talk; he walks the walk; he will not just enter the Defense Ministry and expound on his agenda - he will just implement it. It may take several months, but the change will be noticeable." (Read more)

3. At anti-Israel event, Blinken warns Jewish state not to allow prayer at holiest site - World Israel News
Addressing the annual event for the radical-left J Street, Secretary of State Blinken took an opening shot at the incoming conservative Israeli government, warning, “We expect the new Israeli Government to continue to work with us to advance our shared values, just as we have previous governments. We’ll continue to express our support for core democratic principles, including respect for the rights of the LGBT community”.
Blinken insisted that the Biden regime would hold Israel “to the mutual standards we have established in our relationship over the past seven decades” and “work relentlessly to prevent any parties from taking actions that could raise tensions or further raise tensions and push the two-state solution even further out of reach.”
This is barely a euphemism for pressuring Israel to stop Jews from living in those parts of Israel claimed by Islamic terrorists. (Read more)

Qatar’s Al Jazeera channel (the name literally means “The Peninsula,” referring to the Qatari Peninsula) on Tuesday submitted a formal request to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague “to investigate and prosecute those responsible for killing veteran Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.”

This propaganda network should be expelled from the country and not given the opportunity to continue its anti-Israel campaign of lies.”

1. Kari Lake previews legal fight over Arizona election results - Washington Examiner
Election officials in Arizona certified the state’s midterm results during a canvassing ceremony on Monday night at the state Capitol, opening the door for candidates to begin requesting recounts or to challenge the results of their respective races.
GOP gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake is among those who are expected to challenge the results of their election losses, with the Republican announcing her campaign is already drawing up a number of lawsuits against the state. The Republican candidate has refused to concede more than three weeks after Election Day, claiming malfunctions with election machines unfairly cost her the race.
Lake, who lost by just 0.5 of a percentage point to Democratic Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, is planning to sue Arizona’s largest county to overturn her election loss, alleging several voters were unable to vote on Election Day because of problems with ballot machines, according to earlier reports. 2. Jan. 6 committee to make criminal referrals to Justice Department - Washington Examiner
The Jan. 6 committee will make criminal referrals to the Department of Justice as the panel wraps up its investigation into the events that led up to the deadly riot.
“We have made decisions on criminal referrals,” Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), the chairman of the committee, told reporters, saying "we will" on the question of whether referrals will be pursued. He added that consideration of witnesses potentially committing perjury is "part of the discussion," per CNN.
Though the committee decided to send referrals to the DOJ, it is reportedly still considering whom to refer and on what grounds.
A spokesperson for the committee said the "referrals to outside entities should be considered as a final part of its work. The committee will make decisions about specifics in the days ahead.” (Read more)

3. Andy Biggs to challenge Kevin McCarthy for speaker on House floor - Fox News
Rep. Andy Biggs announced Tuesday that he would challenge Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy for speaker on the House floor in January. Biggs, R-Ariz., announced his intention to oppose McCarthy in an op-ed with the Daily Caller.
"We cannot let this all too rare opportunity to effectuate structural change pass us by because it is uncomfortable to challenge the Republican candidate who is a creature of the establishment status quo, or because the challenge is accompanied by some minimal risk," wrote Biggs.
The Arizona hardliner previously challenged McCarthy in the contest designating the GOP's candidate for speaker. Biggs was defeated by a margin of 188 to 31. (Read more)

4. House Democrats block religious liberty amendment to same-sex marriage bill - Fox News
House Democrats have blocked a Republican amendment that would have strengthened religious liberty protections in the Respect for Marriage Act, a bipartisan bill that would require the federal government to recognize all marriages, including same-sex marriages, that are legal in the state where they took place.
The House Rules Committee held a hearing Monday afternoon on an amendment offered by Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, that would have prohibited the federal government from retaliating against any individual or organization that opposes same-sex marriage on religious or moral grounds. Committee Chairman Rep. James McGovern, D-Mass., refused to allow Roy's amendment to advance to the House floor, explaining that Democrats want to pass the Respect for Marriage Act during the lame-duck session of Congress before Republicans take over the House next year.
"If we were to amend this, and it goes back to the Senate, for all intents and purposes it's dead for the year," McGovern said. "And many of us believe that we have a court right now that is hellbent on trying to reverse the rights for the LGBTQ community, and we do not trust them to respect marriage equality in this country." 5. Biden defends skipping border visit while in Arizona, says there are 'more important things' - Fox News
President Biden defended his decision to skip visiting the U.S.-Mexico border while in Arizona on Tuesday, saying, "there are more important things."
Biden made the defense while boarding Marine One to depart the White House on Tuesday. Biden has never visited the border throughout his presidency, despite the ongoing crisis with record numbers of illegal immigrants crossing the border each month.
"Why go to a border state and not visit the border?" Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy asked.
"Because there are more important things going on," Biden responded. "They’re going to invest billions of dollars in a new enterprise."
The U.S. has seen record levels of illegal immigration throughout the Biden administration. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported 230,000 border encounters in October alone, an all-time monthly record that broke the previous record set in September. (Read more)

7. Dhillon: I’m Running for RNC Chair - Brietbart
Monday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Republican National Lawyers Association Chair and founder and CEO of the Center for American Liberty Harmeet Dhillon announced she is running for chair of the RNC and argued that, among other things, Republicans must “modernize to compete with the Democrats dollar-for-dollar in the ways they fundraise, the way they deliver their ballots to the ballot boxes.” And “the party needs to realize that the party has become a populist party.”
Dhillon said, “I think that we really need to radically re-shape our leadership in order to win. And we can’t keep running elections like we did in the ’90s and the 2000s and we really have to modernize to compete with the Democrats dollar-for-dollar in the ways they fundraise, the way they deliver their ballots to the ballot boxes.

8. Worst flu outbreak in more than a decade spikes hospitalizations - Axios
The worst flu outbreak in more than a decade has left nearly every state with high or very high levels of flu activity, underscoring how pandemic precautions may have left us more vulnerable to seasonal respiratory diseases.
Flu-connected hospital admissions over Thanksgiving week almost doubled over the previous week and were the highest seen for that period since the 2010-2011 season, per the CDC.
The flu outbreak comes as other respiratory diseases are circulating, including respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, and emerging COVID variants. (Read more)

9. White House dismisses Hunter Biden laptop 'Twitter files' as 'distraction' - Washington Examiner
The White House downplayed Twitter CEO Elon Musk's file dump regarding the social media platform's decision to suppress news stories about Hunter Biden's laptop before the 2020 election as a "distraction."
"We see this as an interesting — or a coincidence, if I may — that he would so haphazardly, that Twitter would so haphazardly push this distraction, that is full of old news, if you think about it," press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters Monday. "At the same time, Twitter is facing very real and very serious questions about the rising volume of anger, hate, and antisemitism on their platform."

10. Iran may be able to build 'crude' nukes within six months - report - Jerusalem Post
A new think tank report obtained by The Jerusalem Post warns of the possibility of Iran launching an accelerated effort to achieve a few “crude” nuclear weapons in six months.
According to Monday’s report by Institute for Science and International Security president David Albright, even though top Israeli officials recently told the Post that the Islamic Republic’s weapons group was two years away from being able to deliver a nuclear warhead via a ballistic missile, there could be a much more pressing threat.
In popular discussions, this option is often referred to as a “dirty” or “suitcase nuclear bomb,” but the truth is much more complex, although still quite threatening. (Read more)

11. Sen. Raphael Warnock wins Georgia Senate runoff, defeating GOP challenger Herschel Walker - Fox News
Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock will defeat Republican challenger Herschel Walker in Georgia's high stakes Senate runoff election, The Associated Press projects.
While the Senate majority has already been decided, Warnock's victory in the last ballot box showdown of the 2022 midterm elections gives the Democrats a 51-49 margin in the chamber and a bit of breathing room in their razor-thin control of the Senate.
"Thank you, Georgia. We did it again," Warnock tweeted soon after his victory was projected.
And in his victory speech, the senator noted that "after a hard-fought campaign, or should I say campaigns, it is my honor to utter the four most powerful words ever spoken in a democracy – the people have spoken."
Walker, in a concession speech in Atlanta, emphasized that "we put up one heck of a fight." And Walker told his supporters that "I’m never going to stop fighting for Georgia. I’m never going to stop fighting for you." (Read more)

Vaccinated Now Lead In COVID Deaths
The Daily Jot, Bill Wilson, December 6, 2022
An analysis of Centers for Disease Control (CDC) statistics on COVID deaths by Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF), a non—profit in health policy analysis and health journalism, indicates that the majority of people dying from COVID 19 are vaccinated. KFF says on its website: “By April 2022, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data show that about 6 in 10 adults dying of COVID-19 were vaccinated or boosted, and that’s remained true through at least August 2022 (the most recent month of data).” While the CDC posts the death data on its website, it provides no narrative about the deaths of the vaccinated, leaving the public to analyze the raw data.
KFF, which has been extremely pro-COVID vaccination, attempted to explain the data, “There are several factors at play here, including a rising share of the population that is vaccinated, waning immune protection and low uptake of boosters, and changes in immunity among the unvaccinated. New variants combined with a reduction in masking and other non-pharmaceutical interventions may also lead to more transmission, which can in turn lead to more deaths. During the early rollout of vaccines, vaccinated people represented a small share of total deaths, but experts warned that the share would likely rise simply because vaccinated people were representing a growing share of the population.” Read More

Russian air defences intercepted Ukrainian drones over two military airfields in Russia, hundreds of kilometres from the border between the two countries, Russia said on Monday.
Falling debris from the unmanned vehicles lightly damaged two aircraft, a defence ministry statement said.
Three Russian servicemen were killed and four injured in the incidents in the Ryazan and Saratov regions.
Long-range strategic bombers are believed to be based at the airfields.
Earlier, large explosions were reported at the Engels airbase in Saratov and the Dyagilevo airbase in Ryazan, but there had been no official comment on their cause. (BBC)

The House of Representatives has come to an agreement to put language in the annual defense funding bill that would end the Pentagon’s coronavirus vaccine mandate for service members against President Joe Biden and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin’s stances.
"As the bill is currently written, the [National Defense Authorization Act] directs the Secretary of Defense to end the COVID-19 vaccine mandate for active duty and reserve component servicemembers," a source familiar with the NDAA told the Washington Examiner on Tuesday.
While the bill will remove the mandate, it will not reinstate the thousands of service members who have already been separated from the military for their refusal to get the vaccine without an approved exemption, Fox News reported. Lawmakers on both the House and Senate Armed Services Committees are also looking to include language that would permit the department to look into the status of the service members affected by the mandate.
The inclusion of the measure to end the mandate was announced a day after the White House reiterated Biden's support for the mandate's continued implementation.
“Secretary Austin's been very clear that he opposes repeal of the vaccine mandate, and the president actually concurs with the secretary of defense,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters on Monday. “He continues to believe that all Americans, including those in the armed forces, should be vaccinated and boosted for COVID-19.” (Washington Examiner) Read more here.

Grid vulnerability at home and abroad
By Frank Gaffney
|
|
|
Someone shot up two transformer substations in North Carolina Saturday night, plunging 40,000 Americans into the dark and cold for at least a few more days. It comes at a time when Vladimir Putin is doing the same to millions of Ukrainians, destroying their electric grid, however, in ways that will make blackouts this winter protracted and, for many, deadly.
I was present last night when Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the Institute for the Study of War, a group that has assiduously documented the serial Russian invasions of his country and makes the case – as did their honoree – that it is fighting our common enemy and requires continued Western support.
The evening’s inspiring theme was that the plucky Ukrainians will go without power – and even food and water – rather than submit to Putin’s aggression. Their allies may face the same prospect.
This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.

NASA’s Roman Mission Completes Key Optical Components
|
|
Engineers at Ball Aerospace, one of the industrial partners for NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, have installed and aligned the element wheel assembly (pictured above) into the telescope’s Wide Field Instrument. The assembly contains eight science filters, two dispersive elements (a grism and prism) and a “blank” element (used for internal calibration) that will help scientists solve some of the most profound mysteries in astrophysics when Roman launches by May 2027.
After light is reflected and focused by Roman’s primary and secondary mirrors, it will pass through the element wheel. The focused and filtered light will then reach a large detector array, where an image is created. Depending on what the researchers are looking for, the science filters will allow astronomers to select specific wavelengths of light for their observations. The grism and prism are tools for spectroscopy, designed to spread out the light from cosmic objects into different colors. These rainbow-like measurements, called spectra, contain unique signatures about the sources that offer clues about their nature. For example, astronomers will be able to measure how thousands of entire galaxies are moving through space, which will help them see how fast the universe has expanded at different points in time. Doing so can help pin down the nature of dark energy – the mysterious cosmic pressure that’s speeding up the universe’s expansion. Read More

Mario Murillo:
An Era of Mass Soul Winning Has Begun
|
|
From the very first tent stake we drove into California soil, until now, there has only been one dream. And, after two years, that dream came true in Roseville. Roseville is the victory we have yearned for. It confirms that an era of mass soul winning has begun! I have never needed you to rejoice with me more than right now. Give me your undivided attention. It is time to declare the towering significance of what God did in Roseville, California. This was our turning point.
The doubts are settled. The four nights in Roseville left no questions about our foothold in the Golden State. Thousands who filled the tent each night will attest that this is an undeniable fact. The many hundreds who volunteered will echo this claim of victory. The breakthrough was so great in Roseville that it has set the stage for two years of massive soul winning in California. We saw conversions, not just decisions.
"Woke" has made Californians miserable and is ripening souls to receive Jesus. The verse that first alerted me to this is John 4:35. It says, "Do you think the work of harvesting will not begin until the summer ends four months from now? Look around you! Vast fields of human souls are ripening all around us, and are ready now for reaping." I have been warning everyone who will listen, that souls are ripening to be converted, not just to make decisions. This was confirmed by the streams of tears and weeping at the altar. Christ was not a trendy add-on. For those who came forward, Jesus became their Lord! (Charisma News) Read More

- Father, we PRAISE You for unveiling eyes and hearts bringing many to genuine Salvation! May these conversions be a powerful testimony of Your love, that others would desire to surrender their lives to You. We declare in Jesus name that what was meant for evil, through the "woke" culture in America, You will turn into good! We give You ALL the GLORY! In Jesus name-Amen

Words and Music: John F. Wade
Scripture: The shepherds said to one another, Let us go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about. So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the Baby, who was lying in the manger. Luke 2:15–16
Lyrics:
O come, all ye faithful,
Joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye,
To Bethlehem.
Come and behold Him,
Born the King of angels;
Refrain
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.
True God of true God
Light from Light Eternal,
Lo, He shuns not
The Virgin’s womb;
Son of the Father,
Begotten, not created;
Refrain
Sing, choirs of angels,
Sing in exultation;
O sing, all ye citizens
Of heaven above!
Glory to God, all
Glory in the highest;
Refrain
See how the shepherds,
Summoned to His cradle,
Leaving their flocks,
Draw nigh to gaze;
We too will thither
Bend our joyful footsteps;
Refrain
Lo! star led chieftains,
Magi, Christ adoring,
Offer Him incense,
Gold, and myrrh;
We to the Christ Child
Bring our hearts’ oblations
Refrain
Child, for us sinners
Poor and in the manger,
We would embrace Thee,
With love and awe;
Who would not love Thee,
Loving us so dearly?
Refrain
Yea, Lord, we greet Thee,
Born this happy morning;
Jesus, to Thee be all glory given;
Word of the Father,
Now in flesh appearing.
