"God uses evil":
More Ukrainians requesting Bibles in native language, sharing Gospel as war rages
|
|
A Texas-based ministry that once smuggled Bibles into the Soviet Union in the 1960s is continuing to share God's Word decades later, even as war has shaken the lives of millions in Ukraine and Eastern Europe. Today, the Eastern European Mission (EEM) is printing and distributing Bibles and other Gospel-centered materials through a vast network of churches and Christian organizations to Eastern Europeans in their native languages. In 2024, EEM set its sights on distributing 970,000 Bibles and other Bible-based materials in over 30 countries and 20 different languages. This includes Ukrainians suffering displacement and crumbling infrastructure as the ongoing war with Russia has shattered any sense of normalcy, driving many refugees into Poland, Hungary, Moldova or other countries. Children are especially impacted.
Even before the start of Russia's invasion and the ensuing war with Ukraine in February 2022, EEM distributed Bibles to Ukraine. Now, the ministry has noticed Ukrainians forced to flee their homes, taking the message of the Gospel with them. "God uses evil, and this war is definitely not from a good place, but God will use it," EEM Vice President Dirk Smith told The Christian Post. According to data from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, 6.8 million refugees from Ukraine are recorded globally and nearly 4 million displaced people in Ukraine as of November 2024. Yet, even as the war rages on, the requests for Ukrainian Bibles has not ceased, according to Smith. EEM has seen an increase in requests, something that Smith attributed to Ukrainians seeking solace in God as they endure the trial of their country at war. "We're seeing Ukrainians travel, and I think it's why the request for Ukrainian Bibles has increased because you've got Ukrainian believers who are migrating, and they're traveling alongside or staying with Ukrainians who are non-believers," Smith explained. - Abba Father, we Thank You for the testimony that Your Word is being desperately sought-after, bringing comfort and solace to many in Ukraine. Pour Your blessings upon the 'Eastern European Mission' ministry as they fill fervent requests for Ukrainian Bibles. We praise You for the seeds that are being planted by displaced believers migrating and staying with non-believers who will hear the news of Jesus Christ. We declare in Yeshua's Name that in the midst of the darkness, Your LIGHT will travel far and into the hearts of many who need to hear the transforming truth of the gospel! We give You GLORY and PRAISE for the harvest You are preparing for Your holy Kingdom. Continue to protect, provide for and abundantly bless our Ukrainian brothers and sisters in Christ, as they are being commissioned mightily according to Your plans and purposes! By the powerful Blood and Name of Jesus Christ, Our LORD-Amen and Amen.

Trump Expresses Support for H-1B Visa Program
|
|
Debate over the visa program has erupted on social media in recent days.
President-elect Donald Trump spoke favorably of H-1B visas for highly skilled workers in an interview with The New York Post on Dec. 28, appearing to align himself with Elon Musk in the ongoing heated debate over the issue.
“I’ve always liked the visas, I have always been in favor of the visas. That’s why we have them,” Trump told the outlet in a telephone interview. “I have many H-1B visas on my properties. I’ve been a believer in H-1B. I have used it many times. It’s a great program.”
The H-1B visa program allows up to 65,000 highly skilled foreign workers annually, plus 20,000 foreigners who obtained an advanced degree from a U.S. institution, to fill specialized roles in the U.S. workforce.
Musk, a former foreign student, initially gained U.S. work status through an H-1B visa and recently defended the program for helping drive innovation and economic growth in the United States. Critics have argued the program undermines domestic job opportunities and lowers wages.
In his first term, Trump implemented restrictions on foreign worker visas and expressed criticism of the program. However, his 2024 campaign hinted at a potential shift, indicating openness to granting H-1B visas, or even green cards, to foreign-born graduates of U.S. universities.
Trump’s remarks to The Post were made a day after Musk vowed to go to “war” in defense of the H-1B visa program in response to critics calling for the visas to be eliminated.

- Lord God, we know President Trump is going to be pulled in so many different directions to make important policy decisions and we pray over him that he would stand firm on what Americans want and not what donors want. We pray that the American first agenda would stand firm and strong and we bind all bribes, evil plots, and schemes to derail that in Jesus' mighty name.

How Africa Became a Key Link for Mexican Cartels in Fentanyl Production
|
|
JOHANNESBURG—The Mexican organized crime group accused of fueling the United States’ fentanyl crisis is now making the deadly drug in Africa, according to local and international law enforcement agencies.
The Sinaloa cartel has chosen South Africa as a major operational base, they said, largely because of its strong trade links to China, which produces the chemicals used to make the synthetic opioid.
“At this stage, there isn’t a big market for fentanyl in Africa, so much of this drug that’s being made in underground labs on the continent is being smuggled into the United States, the biggest fentanyl market in the world,” said Lt. Gen. Godfrey Lebeya, chief of The Hawks, South Africa’s top police investigative unit.
Drug overdoses have killed an estimated 400,000 Americans since 2021, with the majority linked to fentanyl, according to statistics compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In its legal prescription form, fentanyl is a highly effective painkiller.
Criminals, however, copy its chemical makeup in labs and illegally sell it as a powder, dropped onto blotter paper, put in eyedroppers and nasal sprays, or made into pills that look like legitimate prescription opioids, according to a report by the U.S. National Institute on Drug Abuse.
A few milligrams of fentanyl can kill, as it is 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine.
Lebeya told The Epoch Times that South African “drug traffickers and gangs linked to the Sinaloa cartel” are testing local narcotics markets. (The Epoch Times) Read more

- Lord God we also want peace for every nation and every person. But Lord we recognize there is a real enemy who is ruthless and is the source of all human suffering. We must fight against this tyranny and oppression in the spirit with the keys of the Kingdom you’ve given us. Help all your people who call themselves Christians to get off the sidelines and start warring in the spirit for nations and for people. We pray for leaders in Africa, Mexico, and all nations to turn to you and repent, in Jesus' name. Amen.

Mexico Develops App to Aid Its Citizens in US Facing Deportation
|
|
Mexico’s secretary of foreign affairs described the app as a ‘panic button’.
Mexico is developing a new cellphone app for its citizens who are in the United States illegally so they can notify their family members and the nearest Mexican consulate if they are facing deportation, according to a Mexican official on Friday.
The move comes in response to potential mass deportations of illegal immigrants in the United States under the incoming Trump administration.
Juan Ramón de la Fuente, Mexico’s secretary of foreign affairs, said the app is currently in small-scale testing, and it “appears to be working very well.”
De la Fuente described it as a “panic button” in a statement to The Associated Press.
“In case you find yourself in a situation where detention [by U.S. immigration authorities] is imminent, you push the alert button, and that sends a signal to the nearest consulate,” he said.
De la Fuente did not say whether the app includes a feature to cancel an alert if detention does not occur.
In addition to the app, the Mexican government has established a 24-hour call center to address questions from its citizens illegally in the United States or those who are unsure of their status. Mexico has also bolstered its consular staff and legal aid resources to assist illegal immigrants in navigating the deportation process.
According to Mexican government estimates, there are approximately 11.5 million migrants with some form of legal residency in the United States and 4.8 million who are there illegally.
The app is expected to be fully launched in January, coinciding with President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20. During his campaigning, Trump repeatedly said he would implement mass deportations once back in office. (The Epoch Times) Read more here.

- Lord God, there is so much controversy with illegal immigration because it really is a number one problem in destroying our economy and jobs in the United States. Our leaders have promised to fix this issue, so we pray that every leader would do what is right by the American people and offer clean and clear solutions to helping reduce illegal immigration. We also pray for our immigration process that it becomes easier and quicker to apply the right and legal way to become a United States citizen. Lord, help our government make wise decisions in this matter, in Jesus' name, amen.
- "If you make a vow to the Lord your God, don’t avoid keeping it. The Lord your God expects you to keep it. You would be guilty of a sin if you didn’t. If you didn’t make a vow, you would not be guilty. Make sure you do what you said you would do in your vow. You freely chose to make your vow to the Lord your God." (Deut. 23:21-23)

‘Major incident’: China-backed hackers breached US Treasury workstations
|
|
The US Treasury Department notified lawmakers on Monday that a China state-sponsored actor infiltrated Treasury workstations in what officials are describing as a “major incident.”
In a letter reviewed by CNN, a Treasury official said it was informed by a third-party software service provider on December 8 that a threat actor used a stolen key to remotely access certain Treasury workstations and unclassified documents.
Based on available indicators, the incident has been attributed to a Chinese state-sponsored Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) actor,” Aditi Hardikar, assistant secretary for management at the US Treasury, wrote in the letter.
A Treasury spokesperson said in a statement to CNN that the compromised service has been taken offline and officials are working with law enforcement and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
“There is no evidence indicating the threat actor has continued access to Treasury systems or information,” the Treasury spokesperson said.
Treasury officials plan to hold a classified briefing about the breach next week with staffers from the House Financial Services Committee, a senior committee staffer told CNN. The exact timing of the briefing has not been scheduled yet.
According to the letter to Senate Banking Committee leadership, the third-party software service provider, BeyondTrust, said hackers gained access to a key used by the vendor to secure a cloud-based service that Treasury uses for technical support. (MSN) Read more.

- Lord God, we praise You that this scheme out of China has been revealed, and that steps are now being taken to rectify this situation. We ask that all systems that were impacted be fully restored, and that the actors who are responsible for this breach be brought to justice. In Your Name, Abba, we offer this prayer, amen and amen.
- "For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light." (Mark 4:22)

1. Sirens in central Israel, IAF intercepts missile fired from Yemen - Israel National News
Sirens were activated on Monday evening in dozens of cities in central Israel, after a missile was launched from Yemen towards Israel.
The IDF Spokesperson's Unit stated, "Following the sirens that sounded a short while ago in Central Israel, a missile launched from Yemen was intercepted by the IAF prior to crossing into Israeli territory."
It added that sirens were sounded due to the possibility of falling shrapnel from the interception.
Shrapnel from the interception was found in the cities of Beit Shemesh and Rehovot. About 25 minutes after the sirens, departures and arrivals at Ben Gurion Airport resumed after being halted due to the sirens. (Read more)

2. IDF says many dozens of terror operatives killed in overnight ambushes in north Gaza’s Jabalia - Times of Israel
Overnight, dozens of terror operatives were killed in ambushes led by the IDF’s 162nd Division in northern Gaza’s Jabalia, the military says.
According to the IDF, troops spotted and killed “many dozens of terrorists” in Jabalia with gunfire and tank shelling.
The IDF says troops of the 401st Armored Brigade, Givati Infantry Brigade, and the elite Multidomain Unit had been waiting in ambushes overnight, following intelligence on plans by operatives to flee the area.
“Many terrorist squads were eliminated in ambushes by the forces, after they were seen fleeing with weapons in their hands,” the military says, releasing footage showing armed operatives running. (Read more)

3. Israel raids Iranian missile facility in Syria in covert operation - Jerusalem Post
Israel conducted a commando raid on an underground Iranian missile production facility near the city of Maysaf in Syria in early September, the Jerusalem Post learned in later September, but was only allowed to confirm now after KAN News was permitted to publicize the IDF officially taking credit late Sunday.
That a raid took place, but without Israeli confirmation, was first reported by Axios on September 12, with the Post receiving secret confirmation shortly after, but not permission to publicize the information.
It appears that Israeli censor and secrecy rules regarding operations in Syria have become more flexible given the huge increase in IDF operations in Syria since the fall of the Assad regime. (Read more)

4. Israel warns Houthis of consequences for missile attacks at UN Security Council meeting - Jerusalem Post
The US called on the UN Security Council to respond to Iran’s “flagrant violations” of its resolutions to arming terrorist groups, and implored members with direct channels to Tehran to press its leaders to stop the Houthis from launching attacks that put civilians in harm’s way.
"It is past time for the Houthis to cease their reckless and destabilizing behavior, and this council should ensure that there are consequences for their actions,” the US said on Monday during the UNSC’s emergency session on the threat of the Houthis.
The session followed last week’s petition from Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar to convene the meeting. (Read more)

5. Israel turns to Indian workers to replace Palestinians - World Israel News
In the wake of the labor shortage caused by the barring of Palestinian workers for security reasons after the Oct. 7, 2023 attack, Israel has turned to Indian laborers to fill construction jobs.
Approximately 16,000 Indian workers have arrived over the past year, with plans to recruit thousands more, according to AFP. While this initiative has eased the labor gap, it falls short of replacing the 80,000 Palestinians from Judea and Samaria who previously worked in the sector, slowing construction and risking a housing shortage.
According to Eyal Argov, head of the Macroeconomics and Policy Division in the Bank of Israel’s Research Department, before the attack, the construction industry employed about 80,000 Palestinians and 26,000 foreign workers.
Now, about 30,000 foreign workers are employed, significantly fewer than pre-war levels. Argov highlighted that construction activity in late 2024 was approximately 25% below pre-conflict levels. (Read more)

1. US homelessness up 18% as affordable housing remains out of reach for many people - AP
The United States saw an 18.1% increase in homelessness this year, a dramatic rise driven mostly by a lack of affordable housing as well as devastating natural disasters and a surge of migrants in several parts of the country, federal officials said Friday.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development said federally required tallies taken across the country in January found that more than 770,000 people were counted as homeless — a number that misses some people and does not include those staying with friends or family because they do not have a place of their own.
That increase comes on top of a 12% increase in 2023, which HUD blamed on soaring rents and the end of pandemic assistance. The 2023 increase also was driven by people experiencing homelessness for the first time. The numbers overall represent 23 of every 10,000 people in the U.S., with Black people being overrepresented among the homeless population. (Read more)

2. Third Massive Car Manufacturer Ponies up for Trump, Donates 7 Figures to Make Jan 20 Unforgettable - Western Journal
Two months ago, the Democratic candidate for president said, in no uncertain terms, that Donald Trump fancied himself as Hitler, that “he would turn the American military on the American people” and that “he has talked about locking people up because they disagree with him.”
Practically nobody in the establishment media batted an eye at this.
Fast forward to a month and a half after Trump’s historic victory in the presidential election, where he took the Electoral College convincingly and even won the popular vote without really trying.
Apparently, Trump is so authoritarian, so Hitlerian, so appalling, that … major corporations, including those based in other countries, are dropping massive contributions to the president-elect’s inauguration on Jan. 20.
According to The Washington Times, Toyota’s arm in the United States has said that it would donate $1 million to the inauguration fund, becoming the latest company to do so.
The Christmas Eve report noted that that Ford and General Motors had also both donated $1 million each to the fund. (Read more)

3. After receiving extreme backlash, the Biden administration has withdrawn a change to Title IX that would have allowed biological men to compete in women’s sports.- Daily Wire
The Biden-Harris administration on Friday officially withdrew a proposed Title IX rule that would have forced all publicly-funded schools to largely allow males to participate in female sports if the athletes “identify” as female.
The administration admitted that the decision to withdraw was because of public backlash, and the numerous lawsuits that were sparked from the gender rule-change. The proposed change would have barred schools and colleges from outright banning males from girls’ athletics, largely permitting males who identity as females to compete. There was, though, a vague loophole offered for schools to ban some male athletes if they could prove it affected safety and fairness and served “important educational objectives.”
Female advocacy groups are celebrating the withdrawal while warning that a larger Title IX rewrite from the administration still threatens opportunities for girls and women. “Even the Biden administration can read the room that forcing women to compete and change with men is not a winning proposition,” May Mailman, the director of Independent Women’s Law Center and the attorney on the Alabama v. Cardona lawsuit, said in a statement sent to The Daily Wire. (Read more)

4. Communism Fumbles Again: Cuba Now Importing Resource it was Once Famed for Producing - Western Journal
It’s undeniably one of economist Milton Friedman’s most famous sayings about the failures of central planning: “If you put the federal government in charge of the Sahara Desert, in five years there’d be a shortage of sand.”
This was, of course, a stroke of hyperbole. Not even a billion Keynesian ditch-diggers could empty the Sahara.
However, we have seen the closest thing to Friedman’s vision coming true: In Cuba, an island practically made of sugarcane, the communist government now needs to import sugar.
It’s bad enough that, according to CiberCuba — an expatriate-run outlet which is critical of the government — a pound of sugar now costs 600 pesos on the island, or about $25 USD.
“Despite efforts to revive the sugar industry, the sector continues to face serious challenges, including failures in the last harvest,” CiberCuba reported earlier this month. (Read more)

5. Climate Scam Unraveling: World Bank Really Doesn't Know Where $41 Billion in Funding Goes - Western Journal
Ah, fact-checking. Where would we be without it?
Take, for instance, a recent story that made the rounds on social media. According to these reports, Oxfam — the British NGO — found that a huge chunk of the World Bank’s spending on climate change-related issues was “missing.”
Thank heavens for fact-checkers like the Australian Associated Press — a Poynter Institute-accredited fact-checker from down under — which set us all straight: “An Oxfam report did not find that $US41 billion has gone ‘missing’ from the World Bank’s climate change fund, contrary to claims online.”
The controversy centers around an Oct. 2024 report titled “Climate Finance Unchecked: How much does the World Bank know about the climate actions it claims?” Answer: not as much as it probably should. (Read more)

- Lord, it's interesting how this World Bank cannot account for the $41billion missing. We pray that the facts will come to light as to where this money has gone.

6. Christian persecution in India hits record high, says rights body - Christian Today
Violence against Christians in India has reached unprecedented levels, with 745 incidents reported through November 2024, according to data released by the United Christian Forum (UCF), a Delhi-based civil society organisation.
The figure marks a significant increase from previous years, with documented incidents rising steadily from 127 in 2014 to 734 in 2023. The data, collected through UCF's toll-free helpline, shows a nearly six-fold increase over the past decade.
"The seven hundred and forty five (745) incidents of violence against Christians in India this year till November were reported on UCF Helpline Number. This means many other incidents which may have happened, but were not reported on our hotline, are not included in the total number", UCF stated.
Notably, the figures exclude incidents from Manipur, where sectarian violence has led to widespread destruction. "Last year too, the tragic violence and bloodshed, as well as over 200 churches which were demolished in Manipur were not added to the UCF figures", the statement noted. (Read more)

- Lord, we are saddened by the reports of violence against Christians in India. We pray for our Brothers and sisters in Christ all over the world who are being persecuted.

The Many Levels of Redemption
The Daily Jot, Bill Wilson, December 30, 2024
In today’s world, people are often falsely accused from the abundance of what is in the accuser’s heart, not as a result of anything the accused did or even thought of doing. This is a reoccurring theme in modern society where innocent people are accused of the very thing the accuser is doing. The Bible warns against this false witness many times, as in Romans 2:1 “for in whatever you judge another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.” Eventually, the truth will prevail, but frequently only after much consternation. We often must stand on the truth and allow God to work it out according to his purpose and the good plans he has for you. We have an example in the story of Joseph.
Genesis 44:1-46:17 continues the story of Joseph who is in an Egyptian prison for being falsely accused of making improper advances to an officer’s wife, who was actually the one who tried to seduce Joseph. After some time, however, Pharaoh has a prophetic dream that none of his magicians can interpret. The wine steward finally remembers that Joseph had correctly interpreted his dream, and tells Pharaoh. Who immediately summons Joseph from the prison and interprets Pharaoh’s dream. Pharaoh makes Joseph governor over the whole kingdom. Joseph begins to gather grain through the seven years of plenty, in preparation for the seven years of famine. The famine also affected the land of Canaan, so Jacob, hearing that there was grain in Egypt, sent his sons (except Benjamin) to buy grain for them. Read More
