Good News Global Gives 'Hope Packs' and the Gospel to 65,000 Inmates Worldwide
|
|
As millions of Americans look forward to celebrating the joy of the Christmas season with family and friends, inmates across the country face the painful reality that they will spend it alone. Yet, one Virginia prison ministry is looking to spread a little cheer to the thousands locked up behind bars to let them know that Jesus loves them and they are not forgotten. Good News Global, formerly Good News Jail & Prison Ministry, is hand-delivering 65,000 Hope Packs globally to men and women behind bars in 18 states and 20 countries this Christmas.
The Hope Packs include a Christmas gift, card, 2025 calendar, food, hygiene items, and the Gospel message. For some, it is their first time receiving a gift like this. For others, it is the first time they will hear about Jesus. For the past three years, Good News Global has given inmates a "Christmas Hope" package in the days before Christmas. "Hope Packs represent our greatest outreach to incarcerated persons ever," said Jon Evans, president of Good News Global. "This Christmas, we will put hope in the hands of 65,000 receptive inmates. We believe that everyone has inherent worth in the eyes of God, and providing Hope Packs is a practical and tangible way to demonstrate that to the inmates and jail and prison staff members." Breaking news: School shooting leaves at least 3 dead in Wisconsin, including shooter, police say
|
|
Police received reports of multiple injuries at Abundant Life Christian School
|
|
Police said three people were killed in a shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, Dec. 16.
The shooter is believed to be among the deceased, according to a statement issued by Madison Police Department (MPD) Chief Shon F. Barnes and shared by NBC News. Barnes indicated that police “located a juvenile who they believe was responsible” for the tragedy in the K-12 private school. He went on to say “officers began life-saving efforts to anyone who was wounded” at what he called a “tragic, tragic scene.”
A teacher and a teenager attending the school were the two fatalities, Barnes told the press. At least two additional students were critically injured.
Buses were used to transport surviving students to a “reunification center,” a reporter said on video. Police retrieved a handgun from the premises, the police chief said, adding that the scene remains on “lockdown.”
Authorities have contacted the parents of the suspect, according to law enforcement. The identity of the alleged shooter remains unknown.
“I don’t have any other information about those persons that have lost their lives,” Barnes said, according to a video statement shared by NBC News. (Daily Caller) Read more here.

‘Shoot Them Down’: GOP Rep Jeff Van Drew Says He Knows Who Could Be Behind Drone Wave Over
New Jersey
|
|
Republican Rep. Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey said Wednesday that he believed Iran was behind a series of instances involving waves of drones over New Jersey.
The drones have appeared over the sky of the Garden State, in some cases flying in formation, in recent weeks, according to video footage obtained by the Daily Caller. Van Drew told Fox News host Harris Faulkner that “qualified” and “responsible sources” believe Iran’s involvement in the unexplained phenomena.
“I’m also on the Transportation Committee, on the Aviation Subcommittee and I have gotten to know people and from very high sources, very qualified sources, very responsible sources, I’m going to tell you the real deal: Iran launched a mothership, probably about a month ago’ that contains these drones. That mothership is off – I’m gonna tell you the deal – it is off the East Coast of the United States of America,” Van Drew said. “They’ve launched drones, everything that we can see or hear and again these are from high sources. I don’t say this lightly. We know there was a probability it could have been our own government. We know it is not our own government, because they would have let us know. It could have been some really glorified hobbyists… doing something unbelievable, they don’t have the technology, but let’s pretend that’s possible. The third possibility was somebody, adversarial country doing this. Know that Iran made a deal with China to purchase drones, motherships and technology in order to go forward.” (Daily Caller) Read more here.
|
|
- Lord God, we lift up our nation to you right now and we just pray a hedge of protection that no plot scheme or plan of the enemy will come to fruition against our nation and Americans' lives. We pray that the truth regarding these drones would be uncovered quickly, and that action be taken to end this assault, in Jesus' name.
- "Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you." (Deut. 31:6)

‘Very friendly’ Netanyahu-Trump call focused on Israeli victory, Gaza hostages, PM says
|
|
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had a “very friendly, warm and important” phone call with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on the need to complete Jerusalem’s victory over Iranian-backed terror proxies and free the hostages held by Hamas, the Israeli leader said on Sunday.
Netanyahu in a statement said he and his “friend” Trump discussed the situations in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria during the call on Saturday night.
“A year ago, I said something simple: We would change the face of the Middle East, and we are indeed doing so. Syria is not the same Syria. Lebanon is not the same Lebanon. Gaza is not the same Gaza. And the head of the axis, Iran, is not the same Iran,” Netanyahu said in the video statement on Sunday.
“We are working today forcefully and with due consideration in order to have security regarding all the countries of the region and in order to have stability and security on all of our borders,” he stated, adding that challenges remain in fighting Iran’s “bloodied proxies.”
Netanyahu emphasized that Jerusalem has “no interest” in a confrontation with the incoming Syrian regime, stressing that his policies towards it will be determined “according to the reality on the ground.”
“Together with Defense Minister [Israel] Katz, I have directed the IDF to thwart the potential threats from Syria and prevent terrorist elements from taking control close to our border,” he stated. “Over the course of several days, we have destroyed the capabilities that the Assad regime took decades to build.” (JNS.org) Read more here.

|
- Lord, please grant President-elect Trump and our incoming leaders Your wisdom as they navigate the complexities of the Middle East and foreign policy. Help them to protect us and show peace but also strength in all their decision making. We pray all hostages will be released and we pray healing and wholeness over each of them, in Jesus name, amen.
- “Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?” (1 Kings 3:9)

Surgeons successfully replaced Pelosi’s wounded hip Saturday morning, the press release said. “Earlier this morning, Speaker Emerita Pelosi underwent a successful hip replacement and is well on the mend,” the Pelosi spokesperson revealed.
“Speaker Pelosi is grateful to U.S. military staff at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center at Landstuhl Army Base and medical staff at Hospital Kirchberg in Luxembourg for their excellent care and kindness,” the statement continued.

1. Heavy Israeli airstrikes reported on Syrian military sites in coastal Tartus region - Times of Israel
Heavy Israeli airstrikes were reported in Syria’s coastal Tartus region overnight Sunday-Monday, allegedly targeting military sites, in the latest such raids since rebels brought down Bashar al-Assad’s regime last week.
The attacks were reported by local media and several monitors, with some footage distributed on social media showing explosions, ostensibly from the bombings.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor said early Monday that Israel Defense Forces jets had targeted a series of sites, including air defense units and surface-to-surface missile depots, calling the campaign “the heaviest strikes in Syria’s coastal region since the start of strikes in 2012.” (Read more)

Air-raid sirens pealed in the greater Tel Aviv area on Monday afternoon after Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists fired a missile at the Jewish state from Yemen, the Israel Defense Forces confirmed.
“Following alerts that were activated a short time ago in central Israel, one missile that was launched from Yemeni territory was intercepted and shot down before it crossed into Israeli territory,” the IDF said.
Air-raid sirens were activated to warn civilians for the possibility of falling missile fragments following the interception, the army said. (Read more)

3. As Houthi attacks continue, CENTCOM strikes Houthi facility in Sanaa - Israel National News
US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Monday that it had conducted a precision air strike against a Houthi facility in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa.
“On December 16 Yemen time, US Central Command (CENTCOM) forces conducted a precision air strike against a key command and control facility operated by Iran-backed Houthis within Houthi-controlled territory in Sana’a, Yemen,” said CENTCOM in a statement.

4. Israel’s Defense Chief Says Hostage Deal ‘Closer Than Ever’ - Algemeiner
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz told lawmakers in parliament on Monday that Jerusalem is “closer than ever” to reaching a deal that would free hostages in Gaza.
“Israel is closer than ever to another hostage deal,” Katz told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, according to Israeli media reports. “There’s flexibility on the other side. They understand we’re not going to end the war.”
Katz reportedly added that “it is better to talk less” about ongoing negotiations but noted that at no point has an agreement been more in reach since November 2023, when Israel and Hamas reached a brief ceasefire during which over 100 hostages were released.
His comments were made during discussions behind closed doors that were subsequently leaked to Hebrew-language press. (Read more)

5. Coalition in crisis? Despite Ben-Gvir rebellion, Knesset passes 2025 budget's first reading - Jerusalem Post
The Knesset passed the first readings of the 2025 budget in a political storm late Monday night, after National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir’s Otzma Yehudit party voted against his coalition’s budget.
The 2025 budget is comprised of a series of bills, and the Knesset voted on all of them for their first reading on Monday. The first bill, which set the 2025 deficit ceiling at 4.3%, passed 58-53. The second bill, which included the detailed 2025 budget itself, passed 59-57. Votes on the third and fourth bills, which include a series of legislative amendments to facilitate the new budget, were held after press time.
Otzma Yehudit announced earlier on Monday that the faction will act “independently and selectively” on legislation backed by the coalition, including the 2025 budget bills, due to the coalition’s factions acting “independently in a variety of areas.”
According to the party, these factions included the “refusal” to bring up the issue of firing Attorney-General Gali Baharav-Miara in the upcoming government meeting on Sunday, as well as “negotiations for an irresponsible [hostage] deal” and “harming the budget of the national security ministry and its [subordinate] bodies.” (Read more)

1. IDF Chief of Staff: 'We are not intervening in Syria' -IsraelHayom.com
Earlier on Saturday, Syrian rebel leader Abu Mohammad al-Julani accused Israel of exploiting Iranian presence as a pretext for its attacks in Syria. He declared that this justification was no longer valid following Iran's withdrawal from the country.
"There is no excuse for any further intervention in Syria now that the Iranians have left," al-Julani asserted.
Throughout the weekend, Israel continued targeting remnants of Assad's former military arsenal. Arab media reported multiple strikes on military sites, including headquarters, battalion positions, radar installations, weapons depots, and assets belonging to the Syrian Scientific Studies and Research Center, known for developing advanced weaponry.
In response to al-Julani's statements, IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi clarified Israel's stance: "We are not intervening in what is happening in Syria. Our presence here is solely to prevent terrorist organizations from establishing a foothold." (Read more)

2. New Israeli strikes said to target Syrian military sites, underground missile bunkers - Times of Israel
Israel launched a series of strikes early Saturday targeting military sites in Damascus and its countryside, including rocket depots buried deep under a mountain, a Syrian war monitor said, in the latest such raids since rebels brought down Bashar al-Assad almost a week ago.
Earlier in the week Israel launched a major operation to destroy the Syrian military’s strategic military capabilities, including chemical weapons sites, missiles, air defenses, air force and navy targets, in a bid to prevent them from falling into the hands of hostile elements.
The early Saturday strikes appeared to be aimed at completing the effort. (Read more)

3. IDF troops reach Damascus’ doorstep, uncover Syrian military weakness - Jerusalem Post
The 603rd Battalion of the IDF's Combat Engineering Corps has reached Tel Hadar, the deepest point in Syria that Israeli forces have entered—10 kilometers from the Israeli border and just over 20 kilometers from Damascus.
“We left Al-Hiam last Wednesday for a weekend break. On Saturday, I received calls, and by Saturday night, the entire company had assembled in the Golan Heights. By Sunday, we were on Syrian soil,” recounted Captain Uri Almog, company commander in the 603rd Battalion.
“Our soldiers understand the importance of this mission and were excited—it’s not something to take for granted. We advanced to capture Tel Hadar under the Commando Brigade, but the first vehicle to set foot on the hill was from Brigade 7. This is the furthest the IDF has entered Syria. The last time was October 12, 1973, when Golani forces captured this mountain,” Almog explained. (Read more)

4. IDF sees chance for strikes on Iran nuke sites after knocking out Syria air defenses - Times of Israel
The Israel Defense Forces believes that following the weakening of Iranian proxy groups in the Middle East and the dramatic fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria, there is an opportunity to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities, military officials said Thursday.
The Israeli Air Force has therefore continued to increase its readiness and preparations for such potential strikes in Iran.
The IDF also believes that Iran — isolated after the fall of the Assad regime and the weakening of its main proxy group Hezbollah in Lebanon — may push ahead further with its nuclear program and develop a bomb as it scrambles to replace its deterrence. (Read more here)

6. Vatican removes Palestinian keffiyeh Nativity scene amid backlash - Christian Post
After the display raised a few eyebrows, the Vatican appears to have removed a Nativity scene that showed baby Jesus lying on a keffiyeh, the traditional scarf used as a national symbol by Palestinians that anti-Israel activists have donned at their protests.
The keffiyeh manger scene first appeared in the Paul VI Hall on Dec. 7. Pope Francis prayed before the display on the same day he met with the artists and donors responsible for the Vatican’s Christmas decorations.
As of Wednesday, the keffiyeh, manger and infant Jesus have been removed from the nativity scene, The Associated Press reported. At the time of reporting, the Vatican did not provide a reason for the removal. (Read more)

Never Let Go
The Daily Jot, Bill Wilson, December 16, 2024
We have all experienced times where our situation seemed impossible. The lesson I have learned through many such trials is to press into the Lord and never let go. This lesson is informed by the story of Jacob in Genesis 32-36. We pick it up where Jacob spent the night alone in an unspecified place fearing an attack by his brother Esau. The text tells us that a “man” wrestled with Jacob until day break. Jacob called the place Peni’el, (face of God), “Because I have seen God face to face, yet my life was spared (32:30).” His adversary says as much, The man said, “From now on, you will no longer be called Ya’akov, but Isra’el because you have shown your strength to both God and men, and have prevailed” (32:29(28).
The interpretation of these verses is key to understanding the Jewish people. Jacob was given the name that his descendants would carry throughout eternity. The people of the covenant are called “the children of Israel,” it was only after the Assyrian defeat of the Northern Kingdom that those that remained were called Judah (the Southern Kingdom), and Yehudim or Jews, in English. Names in the Torah, or those given by God, are meant to convey a person’s character or calling. Jacob’s new name also contains the clue to who his descendants would be—the people who struggled with God and with men, yet prevailed. And so it is today still! Jacob’s breakthrough occurred after the struggle when the Angel touched his hip and dislocated it, then Jacob refused to let go until the “man” blessed him. Read More

Israel approves plan to expand communities in the Golan Heights
|
|
The decision, which was approved unanimously, came just days after the fall of the Assad regime and the IDF retaking the Syrian Hermon.
|
|
The Israeli government unanimously approved Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's NIS 40 million plan to encourage demographic growth in the Golan Heights, the Prime Minister's Office announced on Sunday.
Netanyahu has expressed a desire to double the population of the Golan after Israel's north suffered over a year of devastation due to the war.
Currently, over 100,000 people have been displaced along the northern border, and the potential for a new conflict with Syria after Assad's fall has made many concerned that their return home would be delayed.
However, the plan aims to assist the Golan Regional Council in absorbing new residents who will arrive on top of those who will be returning.
Netanyahu argued that this decision would strengthen elements such as education and renewable energy across the Golan and Katzrin communities. (Jerusalem Post) Read more here.

- Father God, news of this nature truly warms our hearts, as we see the promises of Scripture for Israel coming true. Lord God, You did promise that, in the end times, all land that belonged to Israel would be returned, as Your people rejoiced before You. Thank You, O Lord, for taking such good care of the Israeli people. We pray that, as Israel returns to an expanded Golan Heights, this would be a smooth and a peaceful transition. In Your Name, Holy One, we offer this prayer, amen and amen.
- "“So I will restore to you the years that the swarming [k]locust has eaten,
The crawling locust,
The consuming locust,
And the chewing locust,
My great army which I sent among you.
26 You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied,
And praise the name of the Lord your God,
Who has dealt wondrously with you;
And My people shall never be put to shame."

Massive subterranean ocean found : 3 times more water than Earth’s surface oceans combined
|
|
At the heart of this revelation lies a remarkable mineral called ringwoodite. This unique rock type possesses an extraordinary ability to trap water within its crystal structure. Geophysicist Steve Jacobsen, a key member of the research team, explains, “The ringwoodite is like a sponge, soaking up water. There’s something very special about the crystal structure of ringwoodite that allows it to attract hydrogen and trap water.”
Ringwoodite’s water-holding capacity is truly remarkable. Scientists estimate that if this mineral contained just 1% water, it would equate to a volume three times greater than all surface oceans combined. This astonishing fact highlights the potential magnitude of Earth’s hidden water reserves and their significance in the global water cycle.
The water stored within ringwoodite exists in a fascinating fourth state, neither solid, liquid, nor gas. Instead, it resides in a mysterious form akin to water inside a sponge, challenging our conventional understanding of water’s physical states.
Unveiling the depths : how seismic waves revealed the subterranean ocean
The discovery of this massive underground ocean was made possible through the analysis of seismic data. Researchers studying Earth’s tremors and quakes noticed that seismometers were detecting shockwaves originating from deep beneath the surface. Upon closer examination, they realized these waves were interacting with water held within the ringwoodite mineral. Read More
