Former Soviet Union Leader Mikhail Gorbachev Dead At 92

Former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev has reportedly died at the age of 91 after a long health battle, according to Russian news agencies.

The Tass, RIA Novosti and Interfax news agencies cited the Central Clinical Hospital. Gorbachev's office said earlier that he was undergoing treatment at the hospital after a serious and long illness. No further details were given.

Gorbachev was the leader of the Soviet Union from 1985 until its collapse in December 1991. As general secretary and president, he helped forge weapons reduction deals with the U.S. and other Western powers and remove the Iron Curtain.

Though in power less than seven years, Gorbachev unleashed a breathtaking series of changes. But they quickly overtook him and resulted in the collapse of the authoritarian Soviet state, the freeing of Eastern European nations from Russian domination and the end of decades of East-West nuclear confrontation. (Fox News) Read more.

- Almighty God, We pray for the family of former Soviet Union leader Gorbachev during this time of loss. Although we do not affirm the political ideologies and differences of our adversaries, we also recognize the importance of praying for our enemies. Please give them the peace of Your presence that they may come to know your loving grace and mercy.

- Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink;
For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.”
(Romans 12:20)

"The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance." (2 Peter 3:9)

Biden to deliver prime-time address warning Americans’ rights are ‘under attack’

President Biden will deliver a prime-time speech from Philadelphia on Thursday about protecting democracy during which he will warn that Americans’ rights and freedoms are “under attack,” according to a White House official.

Biden’s speech at Independence National Historical Park on Thursday evening will revive his 2020 campaign theme of fighting for the “soul of the nation,” according to the White House advisory, and is a sign of his message to voters coming into focus just two months out from the midterm elections.

“He will speak about how the core values of this nation — our standing in the world, our democracy — are at stake,” the White House official said. “He will talk about the progress we have made as a nation to protect our democracy, but how our rights and freedoms are still under attack. And he will make clear who is fighting for those rights, fighting for those freedoms, and fighting for our democracy.”  (The Hill) Read more.

- Almighty God, we put Joe Biden in Your Righteous hands and ask You to have Your way with him and his agenda.  We bind lies, deceptions and fabrications in the name of Jesus and we call for warrior angels to cut down the dark plans of evil against this nation and ask You Holy One to loose truth, justice and righteousness upon that man and the administration he represents.  May they all be brought to their knees before a Holy God and may this nation be restored to its covenant roots with You Father, our Holy God, in Jesus name and for Your glory.  Amen.

- "that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of the Father."  (Philippians 2:10-11)

"It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the Living God."  (Hebrews 10:31)

US Air Force’s Middle East commander talks alternatives to White House air-defense alliance

August 30, 2022 / JNS) The head of the U.S. Air Force’s Middle East command says there is enthusiasm for regional defense partnerships, even after U.S. President Joe Biden’s regional air-defense allianceproposal ran up against Gulf opposition.

“While some sort of a regional alliance faced—we’ll say a cool reception—what did not face a cool reception is the idea that we could partner together in the region in order to gain better awareness of threats from the air or from the atmosphere, so air and missile threats that might come at us,” Lt. Gen. Alexus G. Grynkewich, Commander, Ninth Air Force and the Combined Forces Air Component Commander for U.S. Central Command (more commonly known as AFCENT) told JNS. (Read more)

- We applaud the viable efforts of self-defense for nations that are neighbors and cautiously willing to work together for security purposes while honoring one another's sovereignty.  It seems a reasonable solution to withstanding a dangerous and unreasonable bully in the neighborhood.  May there be strength in agreement and respect in distance, in Jesus name.  Thank You Father for erecting a mighty wall of protection against the adversaries all around Israel, in Jesus name.

- "'Therefore, all those who devour you shall be devoured; and all your adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; Those who plunder you shall become plunder, and all who prey upon you, I will make a prey.'"  (Jeremiah 30:16)

1. In latest provocation, Iran activates IR-6 centrifuges at Natanz's underground enrichment facility - Israel Hayom

Iran is pressing ahead with its rollout of an upgrade to its advanced uranium enrichment program, a report by the UN nuclear watchdog seen by Reuters on Monday showed, even as the West awaits Iran's response on salvaging its 2015 nuclear deal.

The first of three cascades, or clusters, of advanced IR-6 centrifuges recently installed at the underground Fuel Enrichment Plant (FEP) at Natanz is now enriching, the report said, the latest underground site at which the advanced machines have come onstream.

Diplomats say the IR-6 is its most advanced model, far more efficient than the first-generation IR-1, which is the only one the deal lets it enrich with. (Read more)

3. Israel and Japan Sign Accord for Closer Defense Cooperation Amid Iran Threat - Algemeiner

Israel’s Defense Minister Benny Gantz on Tuesday called for a US-led international front against the Iranian nuclear threat as Israel and Japan signed an agreement for closer cooperation on defense technology and military equipment.

“Global stability is threatened by Iran’s nuclear program and malign activities,” Gantz told his Japanese counterpart Yasukazu Hamada at the signing ceremony for an agreement on defense cooperation in Tokyo. “This threat requires a united international front led by the US,” he urged.

As Israel and Japan mark the 70th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties this year, Gantz emphasized that the “strategic partnership” between the two countries comes at a critical time in history, which requires the deepening of alliances. Gantz cited Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and Iran’s nuclear program and terror activities among the challenges threatening global stability. (Read more)

4. Authorities claim that French Jew wasn't killed for antisemitic reasons - Jerusalem Post

A young Jewish man from Djerba, the late Eyal Haddad, was barbarically murdered in a town northeast of Parisby his Muslim neighbor about ten days ago. The victim's body was found in the forest recently, following the killer's confession that he murdered him because he was Jewish.

The chief rabbi in Tunis and member of the Conference of Rabbis of Europe, Rabbi Haim Bitan said on Tuesday: "We were shocked to hear about the murder of our hometown boy in Djerba, Eyal ben Michael Haddad, who was murdered by a criminal in France. 1. Sotomayor allows NYC vaccine mandate for municipal workers to be enforced - The Hill

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor on Monday denied a request to block New York City from enforcing its vaccine mandate for municipal workers. Sotomayor denied the emergency application for a writ of injunction, filed on Friday, meaning the court will not reevaluate the city’s worker vaccine rule.

The application to the Supreme Court was submitted by police detective Anthony Marciano, listing New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) as one of the respondents.

Marciano, who filed the lawsuit for himself and “on behalf of all others similarly situated,” first presented his case against the city’s vaccine mandate to the state’s Supreme Court. The suit aims to halt the emergency use authorized COVID-19 vaccine mandate that applies to all workers in the city, apart from those who have medical or religious exemptions. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for Your powerful alternative resolution to the overreach of this city's vaccine mandate.  May the people with objections be respected and free to guard their bodies and health as each sees fit.  We bind the implementation of this decision from the top down and declare the physical sovereignty of each human wonderfully created by God in His image.  We call for blessing in the midst of cursing, in Jesus name.

- "O Lord, are not Your eyes on the truth?  You have stricken them, But they have not grieved; You have consumed them, But they have refused to receive correction."   (Jeremiah 5:3)

2.  GOP senators demand Facebook hand over FBI communication on Hunter Biden - New York Post

Republican Senators Ron Johnson and Chuck Grassley have demanded Facebook hand over all communications with the FBI, the Justice Department, and other government bureaucrats relating to First Son Hunter Biden, his laptop, his business dealings, and Russian disinformation.

In a new letter to Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg Monday, Sen. Johnson, ranking member of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, and Sen. Grassley, ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, also asked for the names of all FBI and DOJ officials who warned Facebook that an impending document dump before the 2020 election would be Russian disinformation, leading the social media giant mistakenly to suppress The Post’s Hunter Biden laptop story.

“The American people deserve to know whether the FBI used Facebook as part of their alleged plan to discredit information about Hunter Biden,” wrote the Senators. (Read more)

- Thank You Father for these two senators taking a bold and courageous stand against the deep state corruption that has contributed to a wide range of unacceptable actions.  We pray for protection and wisdom for all who are demanding justice and righteousness in our government.  We pray that all logical consequences are actually given to the wrong-doers and a complete overhaul of the FBI and DOJ, including all powers being removed from them, in Jesus name.

- "There is no darkness or shadow of death Where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves."  (Job 34:22)

3.  Texas reports first monkeypox death in US - Washington Examiner

Texas has confirmed the first death of a person with monkeypox in the United States. The Texas Department of State Health Services said Tuesday that the person was an adult resident of Harris County, Texas, who was “severely immunocompromised” and that it is investigating what role monkeypox had in the person’s death.

“Monkeypox is a serious disease, particularly for those with weakened immune systems,” said Dr. John Hellerstedt, the department commissioner. “We continue to urge people to seek treatment if they have been exposed to monkeypox or have symptoms consistent with the disease.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had not reported any monkeypox deaths in the U.S. in its database. (Read more)

- Father, we take authority over the monkeypox poison in Jesus name.  We command this foul spirit to go back where it came from and we give it no permission whatsoever to have access to humanity, in the name of Jesus.  We loose truth, health and morality upon our nation and this earth, that we may be in alignment with God's created order and walk in His blessing.

- "That which has been is what will be, That which is done is what will be done, And there is nothing new under the sun."  (Ecclesiastes 1:9)

4.  Russians 'queue up for midnight train as they flee border city used to launch Putin's strikes on Ukraine - The Daily Mail

Panicked Russians are desperately fleeing the border city of Belgorod after Ukraine unleashed a string of overnight missiles in their dramatic fight back against Putin. Footage taken from the city's railway station, located just 25 miles from Ukraine, shows civilians trying to cram on to the midnight train leaving last night.

The mad rush came after videos were shared on Telegram of Ukrainian missiles flying over the city before they were interrupted by defence systems. The rockets exploded in bright white lights, illuminating the night sky above residential buildings.

Belgorod has been considered vulnerable to Ukrainian attacks due to its proximity to the border and its storage of Russian weaponry, with the Kremlin regularly launching strikes from the region. (Read more)

- Almighty God, would you peel away the veils that are hiding the truth of this conflict.  We know that there are many stakes driven into the ground over these nations and it just stinks.  We pray for a fully authorized cease and desist order from heaven upon both of these leaders and dismissal orders for all the antagonists and provocateurs, in Jesus name. May innocent civilians be protected, sheltered and redeemed by You, Almighty God.

- "Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid . . . "  (Isaiah 12:2a)

5.  Secret Service official Tony Ornato retires after 25 years amid Jan. 6 probe - Fox News

Tony Ornato, the Secret Service supervisor assigned to former President Donald Trump during the Capitol riots on Jan. 6, 2021, retired from the United States Secret Service on Monday. Ornato was in good standing after 25 years of service, USSS spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told Fox News.

Cassidy Hutchinson, a former top aide to White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, testified before the Jan. 6 committee in June that Ornato told her Trump repeatedly demanded that the Secret Service take him to the Capitol on Jan. 6.

She also testified that Ornato said the former president tried to grab the steering wheel of the presidential vehicle he was in and lunged at another agent. Ornato watched Hutchinson's testimony and was shocked when she said that he told her Trump lunged at the steering wheel, a source said.

His retirement comes after Secret Service Director James Murray announced his retirement last month to join Snap as the company's chief security officer. (Read more)

- Holy One, we pray for this agent as he retires.  We appreciate his service in protecting our President and pray for all harassing or threats against him to stop and that he has been trustworthy during his entire service, in Jesus name.  We ask You Lord to do the business that needs to be done with those who are conflating stories to suit agendas and protect those who operate in good faith and righteousness.

- "In that day a man will look to his Maker, And his eyes will have respect for the Holy One of Israel."  (Isaiah 17:7)

6. North Dakota Citizens Fight Back Against Chinese Company; Suspicious Detail of Planned Corn Mill Emerges - Western Journal

North Dakota residents are attempting to keep a company allegedly affiliated with the
Chinese Communist Party from building a corn mill in their state, suspiciously far from
supplies of the crop, some say, but extremely close to a U.S. Air Force base.

Chinese manufacturer Fufeng USA, which makes food for animals, according to the
Grand Forks, North Dakota, city website, has purchased a 370-acre site with plans to
build a $700 million corn mill, Fox News reported.

Yet state and local officials say the company had ties to the CCP, according to Fox, and
it all has the local community concerned.

First and foremost, the site is just 12 miles from the Grand Forks Air Force Base. (Read more)

- Father, we stand in agreement with the citizens of North Dakota to bind and rebuke every single plan of the CCP to infiltrate our nation, our military and our food processing, in Jesus name.  We declare full exposure of the plots and building plans of the Chinese company.  We declare that every single permit will be denied again and again, and that they will not be able to dig one shovel of dirt nor pour one layer of concrete in North Dakota, nor anywhere else in the U.S.  It is time to be done with the vulnerability of our country, in Jesus name.

- "He has declared to His people the power of His works, In giving them the heritage of the nations."  (Psalm 111:6)

7.  Elon Musk says 'civilization will crumble' unless we continue using oil and gas in the short term - Fox Business

Electric vehicle pioneer Elon Musk called for more drilling and exploration of fossil fuel resources in the immediate future on Monday, warning that humanity could be in trouble if the transition to lower-carbon energy sources is rushed.

"Realistically, I think we need to use oil and gas in the short term, because otherwise civilization will crumble," the Tesla CEO told reporters at a conference Stavanger, Norway. “One of the biggest challenges the world has ever faced is the transition to sustainable energy and to a sustainable economy," he continued. "That will take some decades to complete." (Read more)

- Father, this crumbling is happening as we speak in a few nations around the world.  We rebuke and stand against the charge to implement this agenda that comes with untold depths of suffering for humanity, in Jesus name.  We pray, Holy Spirit, for a loosing of provision and turn-around over the impoverished countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, etc. and thank You for someone with a voice and platform to speak out truth–give it wings and strength, Abba.

- "For before the harvest, when the bud is perfect And the sour grape is ripening in the flower, He will both cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks And take away and cut down the branches."  (Isaiah 18:5)

8.  Tropical storm could hit US during Labor Day weekend, hurricane center says - Washington Examiner

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring four regions that show signs of a tropical storm, two of which could hit the United States during Labor Day weekend.

The disturbance most likely to affect the U.S. is in the Atlantic Ocean, but the disturbance has an 80% chance of turning into a tropical storm by the weekend, the center said Monday. If it does turn into a tropical storm, its name would be Danielle.

"Although environmental conditions are only marginally favorable, some gradual development of this system is expected over the next several days and a tropical depression is likely to form later this week," according to the NHC.

Current projections expect the storm to stay north of the Leeward Islands before making a curve to the northeast and staying in the ocean. The disturbance does not pose a direct threat to the United States so far, but it could affect Bermuda, the center said. Even if it does not make landfall, it could affect rip tides on the East Coast, according to CNN. (Read more)

- In the name of Jesus, we command "peace, be still" to every single possibility of destructive storms forming.  We bind them now and command calm to every bit of churning going on out in the waters, and declare null and void all forms of weather chaos or control, in Jesus name.

- "The Lord is good, A stronghold in the day of trouble; And He knows those who trust in Him."  (Nahum 1:7)

9.  Popular evangelical pastor abruptly put on leave of absence, citing 'unwise' online messages - Fox News

The pastor of a Texas church was placed on a leave of absence on Sunday, telling his congregation that he had messaged a woman who was not his wife in a way that was "unguarded and unwise."

Matt Chandler, the head pastor of Village Church in Dallas, stated that the messages were not sexual or romantic, but the church's elders decided Chandler "did not use language appropriate for a pastor, and he did not model a behavior that we expect from him," a church statement said. Chandler's leave of absence comes as the larger Southern Baptist community has struggled to deal with sexual misconduct allegations.

Chandler, 48, says the incident began when a woman approached him in the church's lobby to confront him about messages he'd sent to a friend of hers on Instagram.

While Chandler said the messages took place with full knowledge of both his and the woman's spouses, the church hired an outside law firm to audit Chandler's online activity.

- Praise You Father, that there was a measure of accountability in this matter.  We put everyone under Your Holy and Righteous authority and ask that You deal with every measure of sin in the leadership and on down through the ranks of this church and Your church at large.  Let us not be found with sin in the camp, but rather faith pulsing through the body of Christ, seeking to release the love of God into a hurting, confused, chaotic world.  The answer is Jesus.

- "For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?"  (1 Peter 5:17)

The Tale Of Two Citizens

The Daily Jot, Bill Wilson, August 30, 2022

What does former president Donald Trump have in common with a black pastor from Alabama? And what does that have to do with you? In May, Pastor Michael Jennings had just finished up services at his church in Childersburg and went to his neighbor’s house to water their plants while they were away. Another neighbor called the police and said there was an unknown man on the property. The police showed up while Pastor Jennings was still watering the plants. The officer’s body cam shows Jennings explaining, “I’m Pastor Jennings. I live across the street. I’m looking out for their house while they’re gone.” The police demanded identification. Jennings refused, saying he didn’t do anything wrong. And then things went south.

Two minutes later, Jennings was handcuffed and the officers were aggressively demanding he identify himself. Then another neighbor told the officers that Jennings likely did have permission to water the flowers. But the officers continued to maintain that Jennings was a suspicious person and he should have presented his identification when asked, even though he was not committing a crime. Even members of Pastor Jennings family confirmed his identification, but he was taken to jail in cuffs and charged with “obstruction of a government operation.” Now, because of the body cam footage, that charge was dropped a month later and the officers are under investigation for their conduct. Ruins of 1st century Roman fort surface amid Europe drought
The record-breaking drought in Europe has shrunk countless bodies of water around the continent, and now a reservoir in Spain, at less than half capacity, has fully revealed a Roman fort that has been at least partially submerged for 73 years.

An ancient Roman military camp in what is now northwestern Spain was revealed in its entirety as reservoirs in Europe continue to shrink during August amid a record-breaking drought.

Portions of columns, arches and the foundation are all that remain of Aquis Querquennis, a fort and military barracks for Roman legions that were likely stationed there to monitor the construction of roads.

The fort was constructed along the Lima River in what is now known as Galicia, an autonomous region in northwestern Spain, and its occupation lasted from around 75 A.D. until it was abandoned less than a century later, according to a 2018 study. Locally, the site is known as A cidá, or "the city," though it is often submerged beneath the As Conchas Reservoir following its construction in 1949.

Over years past, portions of pillars and archways would break the surface as water levels dropped. Then in August 2022, as the reservoir's water levels receded to just 49% of the maximum level, the lake yielded the entirety of the camp. Read More

'Unconstitutional': Federal Court Rules California Can't Force Churches to Cover Abortions
Three California churches do not have to pay for elective abortions in their health insurance plans, winning an eight-year-long legal battle against the state after a federal court ruled in their favor.  Alliance Defending Freedom attorneys representing Foothill Church in Glendora, Calvary Chapel Chino Hills in Chino, and The Shepherd of the Hills Church in Porter Ranch filed a motion in April asking the court to definitively rule in their favor and allow the churches to operate according to their religious beliefs, that uphold the sanctity of unborn lives. U.S. District

Chief Judge Kimberly Mueller of the Eastern District of California, Sacramento Division ruled on Thursday in Foothill Church v. Watanabe that the California Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC) mandate against the churches is unconstitutional. In Mueller's 22-page opinion, she wrote the DMHC infringed on the churches' First Amendment rights by denying their request for exemption to the abortions being added to their insurance plans. She also directly criticized the department's director, Mary Watanabe. "Even assuming similar religious challenges materialized in California in large numbers, the Director has not offered evidence showing that entertaining these religious objections would be so difficult and time-consuming that DMHC's operations would grind to a halt," Mueller added.

ADF Senior Counsel Jeremiah Galus hailed the judge's ruling, noting the state of California has unconstitutionally targeted faith-based organizations for years. "The government can't force a church or any other religious employer to violate their faith and conscience by participating in funding abortion," Galus said. "For years, California has unconstitutionally targeted faith-based organizations, so we're pleased the court has found this mandate unconstitutional and will allow the churches we represent to operate freely according to their religious beliefs." HALLELUJAH! Lord bless this Judge for ruling righteously and each ADF attorney representing You! May this set a foundation in every Court of Law and across our nation for protecting the unborn and our Christian beliefs-in Jesus name, Amen!

Classic Hymns

This is my Father's World

Words: Maltbie Babcock
Music: Franklin Sheppard

Scripture: The world is Mine, and all that is in it. Psalm 50:12

Lyrics:
This is my Father’s world,
And to my listening ears
All nature sings, and round me rings
The music of the spheres.
This is my Father’s world:
I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas;
His hand the wonders wrought.

This is my Father’s world,
The birds their carols raise,
The morning light, the lily white,
Declare their maker’s praise.
This is my Father’s world:
He shines in all that’s fair;
In the rustling grass I hear Him pass;
He speaks to me everywhere.

This is my Father’s world.
O let me ne’er forget
That though the wrong
Seems oft so strong,
God is the ruler yet.
This is my Father’s world:
The battle is not done:
Jesus who died shall be satisfied,
And earth and Heav’n be one.

This is my Father’s world,
Dreaming, I see His face.
I open my eyes, and in glad surprise
Cry, The Lord is in this place.
This is my Father’s world,
From the shining courts above,
The Beloved One, His Only Son,
Came—a pledge of deathless love.
This is my Father’s world,
Should my heart be ever sad?
The lord is King—let the heavens ring.
God reigns—let the earth be glad.

This is my Father’s world.
Now closer to Heaven bound,
For dear to God is the earth Christ trod.
No place but is holy ground.
This is my Father’s world.
I walk a desert lone.
In a bush ablaze to my wondering gaze
God makes His glory known.

This is my Father’s world,
A wanderer I may roam;
Whate’er my lot, it matters not,
My heart is still at home.
