US Sends 2 Warships Through Taiwan Strait, 1st Since Pelosi Visit
|
|
Two U.S. Navy warships sailed through the Taiwan Strait on Aug. 28, the first time since the Chinese regime ramped up military pressure on the self-ruled island in retaliation to U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit earlier this month.
Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruisers USS Antietam and USS Chancellorsville were conducting a routine transit, the 7th Fleet said in a statement. The U.S. vessels “transited through a corridor in the Strait that is beyond the territorial sea of any coastal State.”
“The ship’s transit through the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the United States’ commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific,” the statement reads.
The Chinese military “closely follows and [monitored]” the two cruisers’ movement, Col. Shi Yi, spokesperson for Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, said in a statement. Its troops are “on high alert to defeat any provocation at any time.”
U.S. Navy ships have transited the Taiwan Strait at least three times this year. The last publicized passage before the Aug. 28 operation was on July 19, when the U.S. Navy stated that the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Benfold passed through the strait.
U.S. allies such as Canada and the UK also sent vessels through the narrow waterway separating Taipei from Beijing.

US withdrawal from Afghanistan 'weakened' NATO prior to Putin's invasion: experts
|
|
NATO allies had no choice but to follow the U.S. out of Afghanistan, which gave the impression that member states had "no backbone" for another conflict, experts told Fox News Digital.
"It was clear to all experts that [the withdrawal] meant the great danger of the Taliban taking power in Afghanistan," Dr. August Hanning, former German state secretary of the Federal Interior Ministry and director of Federal Intelligence Services, explained. "But the prevailing mood in Germany was that government, Parliament and public were tired about the mission and the poor results of the mission in Afghanistan. White House Doubles Down, Says 'MAGA Republicans' Are 'Taking Away Our Freedoms'
|

President Biden has come out swinging with some pretty harsh language for what the Democratic Party has dubbed ‘MAGA Republicans’ to capitalize on the bump in approval ratings ahead of the midterms.
The President made headlines at a Maryland event where he claimed “MAGA Republicans” follow what he calls ‘semi-fascism,’ proving that words and definitions don’t matter anymore.
I think the line would’ve hit better had he dubbed it ‘fascism-lite,’ although it’s just as insulting to the 74 million Americans who voted for former President Trump in 2020.

1. Iran’s Raisi threatens Israel, says no return to nuke deal if IAEA probe continues - Times of Israel
TEHRAN, Iran — Iran’s president warned Monday that any roadmap to restore Tehran’s tattered nuclear deal with world powers must see international inspectors end their probe of man-made uranium particles found at undeclared sites in the country.
In a rare news conference marking his first year in office, President Ebrahim Raisi also issued threats against Israel and tried to sound upbeat as Iran’s economy and rial currency have cratered under the weight of international sanctions.
Raisi said if Israel decides to carry out its threats to destroy Iran’s nuclear program, it “will see if anything from the Zionist regime will remain or not.” (Read more)

The US will not reach a good deal with Iran without a credible military threat, Prime Minister Yair Lapid warned on Sunday.
World powers “have to get Iran to sign a much better agreement, what the Americans themselves called ‘longer and stronger,’” Lapid said. “Such an agreement can only be reached with a credible military threat, so the Iranians see they will have to pay a heavy price for their recalcitrance.”
Lapid argued that the US presentation of bunker-buster bombs able to attack Iran’s underground nuclear facilities was what led Tehran to sign the original nuclear agreement in 2015. (Read more)

3. Netanyahu after meeting Lapid: I'm more worried than before - Israel National News
Former Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu met with Prime Minister Yair Lapid Monday, and received a political-security update from him on the efforts to prevent the nuclear agreement with Iran from being said.
Immediately after the meeting, Netanyahu appeared in front of the cameras and harshly attacked Lapid and Defense Minister Benny Gantz: "I am more worried after the meeting than before," Netanyahu said. " We will support any firm public step against Iran. Unfortunately, Lapid and Gantz fell asleep on guard for the past year and even now do nothing in Congress and the American media."
"I have a clear message to the Ayatollahs in Tehran: On November 1, we will bring to Israel a strong and firm leadership that will ensure that with and without an agreement they will never have nuclear weapons," Netanyahu said. (Read more)

4. Jews Enter Temple Mount Through Gate of the Tribes - Jewish Press
A group of Jewish worshipers ascended this morning (Sunday) through the Gate of the Tribes in the northern part of the Mount.
The group entered through the Gate of the Tribes and was escorted by a Temple Mount officer, after some worshipers in the groups were removed through the same gate.
Allowing Jews to enter through this gate is very significant because this is the gate that the Paratroopers entered in order to liberate the Temple Mount in 1967. Jews are normally restricted to entering the Temple from the Mughrabi (Hallel) Gate. (Read more)

Zionist NGO B’Tzalmo is urging Israel’s attorney general to launch an investigation against an MK who reportedly egged on Arab rioters moments before they attacked Jews.
MK Ofer Kassif, a member of the anti-Zionist Arab Joint List party, was present at the tense scene outside of the tomb of the biblical prophet Samuel in Jerusalem.
Jewish worshippers visiting the site had attracted the attention of local Arabs, who objected to two of the visitors holding Israeli flags.

1.Democrat Senator ‘Happy’ About Getting Google To Suppress Crisis Pregnancy Centers | The Daily Wire
Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) boasted about pressuring Google to suppress search results for crisis pregnancy centers.
The technology conglomerate recently announced that Google Maps will only produce options for abortion clinics when users search for abortion-related services. However, crisis pregnancy centers — nonprofits that offer financial and medical assistance to mothers attempting to keep their babies — will no longer appear in queries regarding abortion.
“Back in June @RepSlotkin and I wrote to @Google urging them to improve their search results and prevent users that search for abortion clinics and services from being misled. Today I received a response from Google and am happy to report that they’re taking action,” Warner tweeted.
“Soon, those who search for ‘abortion clinics near me’ will only see facilities that have been verified to provide abortions in the local search box on Google, meaning that far fewer women will be mistakenly led to ‘crisis pregnancy centers’ that often provide misinformation,” he continued. “Additionally, as our letter requested, Google says results for searches such as ‘abortion clinics’ will ‘be clearly labeled as to whether the facility provides abortions.’”
- Lord, we bind this plan to cause trouble for pregnancy centers and ask that You intervene on their behalf. We pray that You would cause Mr. Warner to repent for his deed, and restore the Google search to where it belongs.

2.Sen. Ernst Demands IRS Watchdog Audit Federal Agency's Hiring And Re-Hiring Tax Cheats | ZeroHedge
Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) wants Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) J. Russell George to audit the staff hiring and re-hiring practices of the IRS as the federal tax agency moves to double its workforce with President Joe Biden’s blessing.
The Iowa Republican told George in an Aug. 24 letter that her request was prompted by the fact that “earlier this month, Congress passed and Biden signed legislation to double the size of the IRS workforce so the agency can more aggressively audit America’s taxpayers.
“The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) says with the supersized staff, the IRS audit rate ‘would rise for all taxpayers,’ regardless of income, which will ‘result in some audits of taxpayers who would later be determined not to owe additional taxes.’”
Among the results of adding 87,000 new IRS agents to the 80,000 the agency presently employs, Ernst said, could be that “innocent, hardworking Americans” will be “subjected to unfair and costly IRS audits when the agency is ignoring tax cheats on its own payroll.”
Ernst was referring to reports compiled and published by TIGTA investigators in 2017 and 2019 that found the IRS had hired and rehired thousands of employees who had not paid their taxes.
“In April 2019, TIGTA released a report, ‘Improvements Are Needed to Ensure That Employee Tax Compliance Cases Are Adjudicated Consistently,’ that found 1,250 IRS employees had not paid their tax bills in full or on time, including hundreds of whom, were willfully delinquent or repeat offenders, and that the tax collecting agency had done little to discipline these tax cheats on its own payroll, ” Ernst told George.

3. Build Back Broke: Natural Gas Hits 14-Year High Under Biden (townhall.com)
Earlier this summer, the national average prices for a gallon of unleaded and diesel fuel spiked to all-time highs as a result of President Joe Biden and his administration's war on American energy. The president, of course, blamed supposedly "greedy" corporations and Putin's war in Ukraine despite Biden's executive actions to kill off America's energy independence that spurred price increases long before Putin ever fired a shot in Ukraine.
Now, as the national average for gas has fallen from its record-setting highs to still-chronically high prices — up more than $1.50 since Biden took office — natural gas prices are having their turn at spiking as northern states look toward fall's cooling temperatures that will necessitate natural gas-powered heating for many Americans' homes.
The cost for natural gas hit and rose past a 14-year high this week, rising briefly past $10 per mmBTU — one metric million British Thermal Units — for the first time since 2008.

4. Court upholds block on Arkansas’ trans surgery ban for minors | Politics News (christianpost.com)
An appeals court has upheld a temporary block on an Arkansas law aimed at banning the usage of puberty blockers and gender surgeries for minors suffering from gender dysphoria.
A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit unanimously ruled Thursday to uphold a lower court decision blocking the enforcement of the state ban, siding with a group of plaintiffs that included trans-identified children and their parents.
Circuit Judge Jane Kelly, an Obama appointee, wrote in the court opinion that the plaintiffs "will suffer irreparable harm" if they are not given "a preliminary injunction."
"Minor Plaintiffs would be denied access to hormone treatment (including needing to stop treatment already underway), undergo endogenous puberty — a process that cannot be reversed — and suffer heightened gender dysphoria," wrote Kelly.
"These factual findings are supported by Minor Plaintiffs' affidavits and are not clearly erroneous."

5. TikTok's 'Elections Center' Is A Massive Threat To National Security (thefederalist.com)
TikTok just unveiled an “Elections Center” that will put detailed voter profiles in the hands of a company based in Beijing, stocked with party members and state employees, subject to laws that allow the Chinese government data access. Given the Chinese Communist Party’s influence over ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, China could exercise enormous control over the midterm elections with this data. What’s worse is that American institutions are actively encouraging TikTok to do this.
By law, ByteDance is required to give China access to its data upon request. TikTok claims such requests would be rejected, but there is no way to know whether that’s true. We do, however, know that members of the CCP actually work for ByteDance. We also know TikTok’s data has been accessed in China, despite the company’s claims. Finally, we know TikTok is currently the most popular social network in America.

6.Kathy Hochul's call for 5.4M Republicans to leave New York is dangerous (nypost.com)
Gov. Kathy Hochul, who hasn’t proven shy about issuing orders, had one for the state’s Republicans this week — all 5.4 million of them: “Just jump on a bus and head down to Florida where you belong, OK?” she said. “You are not New Yorkers.”
If you can move beyond the frankly disgusting political partisanship and intolerance, her message is fiscally irresponsible, even dangerous. The governor probably already knows this, but the state’s extensive public sector is heavily reliant on personal income taxes paid by residents, and with nearly $14 billion in projected budget gaps over the next five years, it can’t afford to lose any taxpayers, let alone 5.4 million of them.
The Empire State has already lost 1.5 million residents in the past decade, and there’s no sign of that trend letting up. In fact, more than 350,000 New Yorkers relocated during the 12 pandemic-plagued months leading up to July 1, 2021.

7.Satanic Temple hosts 'After School Satan Club' at Pennsylvania school | Fox News
Officials at a Pennsylvania school district are allowing the Satanic Temple to host a back-to-school event at a high school.
Administrators with the Northern York County School District are allowing the Satanic Temple to host the event at Northern High School in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania. The event is a back-to-school night for the After School Satan Club, according to FOX 43.
The group tried to establish an After School Satan Club at a school within the district in April, but its efforts were denied by the school board at the time, according to the report.

8. Feds Declare Regional Emergency For Midwest States After Oil Refinery Has ‘Unanticipated Shutdown’ | The Daily Wire
The Department of Transportation declared a regional emergency Saturday affecting four Midwest states after a fire earlier this week caused an “unanticipated shutdown” of a BP oil refinery in Indiana.
BP Whiting, the sixth largest refinery in the U.S. refining over 400,000 barrels of oil per day, shut down to undergo damage assessment after a fire knocked out the plant’s electrical power and cooling water systems on Wednesday, Reuters reported. The shutdown caused the federal government to take action and address the looming shortage of fuel output that will affect Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin, states that collectively receive up to 25% of their fuel from the Whiting refinery.
“This Declaration addresses the emergency conditions creating a need for immediate transportation of gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel and provides necessary relief,” the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) said in a statement.

9. FBI responds to Zuckerberg's claim on Joe Rogan that Facebook limited Hunter Biden story after agency warning | Fox Business
An appearance by Mark Zuckerberg on Joe Rogan’s podcast last week stoked controversy after the Meta CEO admitted that Facebook limited the bombshell Hunter Biden laptop story ahead of the 2020 election because the FBI had warned about "Russian propaganda."
After the release of the episode on Thursday, the FBI said it "routinely notifies U.S. private sector entities, including social media providers, of potential threat information, so that they can decide how to better defend against threats."
In a statement released to FOX Business, the agency said it has provided companies with "foreign threat indicators to help them protect their platforms and customers from abuse by foreign malign influence actors."
"The FBI will continue to work closely with federal, state, local, and private sector partners to keep the public informed of potential threats, but the FBI cannot ask, or direct, companies to take action on information received," the agency said.

10. Colorado secretary of state claims Americans could 'lose right to vote within months' if GOP wins election | Fox News
Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold says Republicans plan to attack Americans' right to vote if they are able to win this year's midterm elections.
"What we can expect from the extreme Republicans running across this country is to undermine free and fair elections for the American people, strip Americans of the right to vote, refuse to address security breaches and, unfortunately, be more beholden to Mar-a-Lago than the American people," the Colorado Democrat said during an interview with the Guardian.
Griswold pointed out that many Republicans in competitive elections have echoed claims made by former President Donald Trump that the 2020 election was fraudulent, while the 27 races for secretary of state around the country have become key showdowns for who will control the 2024 presidential election.

The loud daily din of the news media opining away about the evils of anyone who doesn’t agree with their form of liberalism takes a toll. The constant stream of fake news leaves people with confusion over what to believe. The visceral emanating from the mouths of elected representatives of the people characterizing those who disagree with them in foul terms, wounds the nation. Celebrities have gone wild in portraying as outcasts those who disagree with their humanist ideals. We are living in a time where civility has become rare. In the midst of this, be encouraged. We as Christians have a mission and a purpose. Take heart. We are to overcome evil with good and not grow weary in doing it.
Every phone call you make. Every letter you write. Every email you send. Every word you speak. Be encouraged. The Lord said in Isaiah 55:10-12, “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and returns not thither, but waters the earth, and makes it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goes forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. Construction project unearths unusual burial site
|
|
|
Workers digging into the ground to make way for a development came across the unexpected: Bones roughly 10,000 years old from an extinct animal that once roamed parts of North and Central America.
A construction project in Grand Rapids, Michigan, that seemed fairly straightforward went awry in the best way possible earlier this month when workers digging a culvert discovered the ancient bones of a juvenile mastodon.
Cory Redman, science curator at the Grand Rapids Public Museum, had no idea what to expect when he was called out to identify the bones the morning of Aug. 11.
"[I] figured it might be maybe two bones, maybe five, that's generally how these things go once we get on site," Redman told AccuWeather Prime's Adam Del Rosso. "We quickly realized it was much more of a skeleton. And so that's when it became really, really exciting."
Redman said that based on an initial estimate, the skeleton is between 40% and 60% complete, but it could be more or less once workers at the museum's archive research center fully analyze and reconstruct it. Read More

76 Ohio Pastors Stand Up to Anti-Religion Group's 'Spurious and Unfounded' Demand to Shut Down Police Chaplain Program

|
A group of 76 Ohio pastors confronted an atheist group to preserve a city's police department chaplaincy program. In July, the Freedom of Religion Foundation (FFRF), demanded Mansfield Police Department end its police chaplaincy program because 'government and religion do not mix.' "Police chaplaincies are unconstitutional. Government chaplains may only exist as an accommodation of a public employee's religious beliefs when the government makes it difficult or impossible to seek out private ministries," wrote Karen M. Heineman of FFRF. "In the case of police departments, there is no significant government burden on religious free exercise." Heineman sent the letter after the Mansfield News Journal featured a story on the appointment of a new police chaplain, Pastor Chad Hayes, to the Mansfield Police Department.
In August, 76 faith leaders defended the program in a letter to the Mansfield mayor, police chief, and city law director. "While the FFRF likes to think of itself as a legal authority on the First Amendment, one can observe this is often not the case in a court of law with its frivolous lawsuits against government institutions," they wrote. "The FRFF asserts that since Pastor Hayes is a clergyman, he is not qualified to serve law enforcement officers and their families. It appears the FFRF wants a government employer to discriminate against a job applicant/employee in the workplace by firing him because of his religion, thus violating the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964," they continued. "We believe this would be bad legal advice."
Pastor Rich Hurles, a police chaplain, and letter-cosigner told Frontlines Ohio the FFRF is targeting understaffed police departments and vulnerable officers. "I, like many of the area chaplains I know, serve our police departments on a voluntary basis.
