Multiple FBI Offices Targeted American Catholics
New evidence is suggesting that the FBI’s attempts to spy on American Catholics were more pervasive than originally stated and the agency’s director may have lied under oath. According to a letter from Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) to FBI director Christopher Wray, documents that the federal law enforcement agency provided to legislators show that an FBI memo detailing plans to spy on “radical traditionalist Catholics” did not originate solely with the Richmond field office, as Wray insisted under oath. Instead, multiple field offices were reportedly involved — namely, offices in Portland and Los Angeles.

Jordan, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee and the Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, and Johnson, who chairs the House Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government, wrote to Wray:

“This new information suggests that the FBI’s use of its law enforcement capabilities to intrude on Americans’ First Amendment rights is more widespread than initially suspected and reveals inconsistencies with your previous testimony before the Committee. Given this startling new information, we write to request additional information to advance our oversight.” (Read more)

US House Republicans seek Joe Biden's emails
from National Archives
A Republican U.S. lawmaker heading a congressional probe into Hunter Biden's business dealings asked the National Archives on Thursday for emails between President Joe Biden and his 53-year-old son.
House of Representatives Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer called on the official depository of U.S. records to produce unredacted emails and other documents from 2015 and 2016, when the elder Biden was vice president and his son sat on the board of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma.

House Republicans are mulling a possible impeachment inquiry against the elder Biden, based partly on allegations that the president, his son and other family members have engaged in financial misconduct, allegations the White House strongly denies. They have not produced evidence of financial misconduct by the president.

The White House had no immediate comment.

David Weiss, the newly elevated U.S. special counsel leading the Justice Department's investigation of Hunter Biden, last week said he may be heading to trial on charges of tax evasion and a gun charge, after a judge refused to accept a proposed plea deal to settle the charges. (Read more)

- Lord, we pray that all hidden emails, all documents that have escaped public disclosure be brought into the light. Let the truth be known to all!

GOP debate moderator Martha MacCallum:
'The night is about the future of the country'
Fox News will host the first Republican primary debate Wednesday in Milwaukee at 9 pm ET

"Sunday Night in America" host Trey Gowdy offered viewers a unique behind-the-scenes glimpse into the upcoming Republican presidential primary debate with co-moderator and "The Story" anchor Martha MacCallum.

Fox News' Bret Baier and MacCallum will helm the Wednesday night debate, which will take place in Milwaukee starting at 9 p.m. ET and will air across FOX News Media’s platforms.

Gowdy asked MacCallum how she will decide what questions to ask and of whom. MacCallum shared that her strategy will focus on ensuring candidates articulate their visions for America's future.

"One of the things that you really want to accomplish here is to give people a chance to share with the audience what they would do to make the country better," MacCallum said. "And then you have to get at it from a political angle as well, because there's a lot of strategy that's involved in how one of these people is going to jockey themselves into being the contender, or one of maybe a couple of contenders who make it through the early stages of this process, starting with the debate, in order to get into that head-to-head position with the former president, Donald Trump."

MacCallum added, "We really want people to walk away from the debate on Wednesday night feeling like they can have a better sense of all these people and maybe their eyes are open to one or two of them that they want to hear more from. I think that's honestly, that's the main goal, is to move this process forward in a way that people feel is edifying and that they are more interested in the morning after on Thursday."

Nine candidates have so far reached the polling and donor thresholds required by the Republican National Committee to qualify for the Milwaukee debate: Former President Donald Trump, former Vice President Mike Pence, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, former Ambassador and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson.

Trump said on his social media app Truth Social Sunday he will "not be doing the debates." (Fox News) Read more here.

- Father God, we commit to pray in the Spirit over these debates, asking only for Your perfect will to be done, and for the American people to discern and to decide
for ourselves which candidate we favor, at this point in the process of choosing the next Republican candidate for President of the United States. In Your Name, amen.

- "Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven."

FOCUS ON ISRAEL

1. Israel reaffirms anti-nuclear policy for neighboring countries - JNS

The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office clarified on Sunday that Israel has not agreed to any of its neighboring countries having a nuclear program, without distinguishing between military and civilian programs.

The clarification came after Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer hinted during an interview with U.S. public broadcaster PBS that the Jewish state might be willing to accept Saudi Arabia starting a civilian nuclear program as part of a normalization agreement.

In the interview, which aired on Aug. 18, Dermer said, “You have countries in the region that can have civilian nuclear power. That’s a different story than a nuclear weapons program.”

Asked if Israel would agree to Riyadh having civilian nuclear capacity, including enrichment, in exchange for a peace deal, Dermer said that “like so many things, the devil is in the details, and we’re going to have to look at what ultimately is agreed upon.” (Read more)

2. Head of Central Command: We're facing unprecedented terror wave - Israel National News

Head of the IDF's Central Command Major General Yehuda Fuchs held a press conference today (Monday), after the shooting attack near Hebron in which Batsheva Nigri, mother of three, was murdered, and Aryeh Gotlieb was seriously injured.

Fuchs began by saying: "Our security forces are not limited in fighting terrorism and protecting the country's borders. We are trying to adapt our means and our resources to the existing challenge. No one is limiting me, no one is limiting us, in our actions. We are slowly carrying out situational assessments and trying to find the right way to deal with it."

General Fuchs personally addressed residents most affected by the recent events and said: "I say to the residents of Judea and Samaria, as well as to the residents of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv whom terror has struck as well, that we, myself as the commander of the Central Command and all the security forces, tens of thousands of people are working day and night to fulfill the mission - to provide security to the residents Israel. This is our mission, this is our responsibility. We don't always succeed, but we learn from every attack and try to improve."

Regarding the criticism against him recently on behalf of officials from Judea and Samaria, he said: "Nothing is personal. Along with me there are tens of thousands of people who are working to protect the residents of Israel. Regular people, in the reserves, we all wear uniforms and we all do our mission. I have been a public messenger for 35 years, and will continue to be a public messenger as long as I believe I can fulfill the task - to provide security to all residents of Israel. Even for those who don't like me." (Read more)

3. Israel sees one of deadliest terrorism years since Second Intifada - Jerusalem Post

Thirty-four people have been murdered in terrorist attacks in Israel so far this year, making it one of the deadliest years since the Second Intifada.

With the death of the 34th victim, who was murdered in Hebron on Monday, 2023 surpassed 2022, when 33 people 2343 killed in terrorist attacks.

After Monday's attack, Israel has now seen an average of one person murdered in a terrorist attack per week, with the first taking place at the end of January and at least one being carried out every month this year. (Read more)

4. ‘Real Danger’: Gush Etzion Council demands action against illegal Arab city - World Israel News

The Gush Etzion Regional Council has begun a campaign to stop the construction of a new Arab city that is being built illegally and would endanger the country’s security.

Titled “Everything is expected and the [Palestinian] Authority [PA} builds,” which is a play on words from a popular song, the Council is demanding that the government use its authority to halt the massive project in an area that was supposed to remain a pristine nature reserve as per the Oslo Accords.

“This city is a barbaric devastation, a blow to the settlement movement, a final loss of governance on the most serious level and in addition, obviously, it violates international agreements and understandings,” charged Council head Shlomo Ne’eman.

“It presents a real danger to… the State,” he added, noting that it can become a source of terrorist attacks. (Read more)

 5. Nikki Haley Slams Rival US Presidential Candidate Over Plan to End Israel Aid - Algemeiner

Former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley on Monday slammed rival Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy after he suggested a plan to cut America’s military aid to Israel by 2028.

“Vivek Ramaswamy is completely wrong to call for ending America’s special bond with Israel,” Haley said in a statement. “Support for Israel is both the morally right and strategically smart thing to do. Both countries are stronger and safer because of our iron-clad friendship.”

Ramaswamy, who is currently polling third in the GOP primary behind former President Donald Trump and current Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, suggested Israel received preferential treatment from Washington, saying if he were president there would be “no North Star commitment to any one country” except the US.

The 38-year-old biotech entrepreneur also called for ending US aid to the Jewish state. The current American aid package of $38 billion to Israel passed by the US Congress expires in 2028. (Read more)

1. Florida officials report five deaths from ‘flesh-eating’ bacteria in Tampa Bay since January - New York Post

Five people are confirmed dead in the Tampa Bay area because of a flesh-eating bacterium known to lurk at beaches, Florida officials reported.

According to Florida Health, the vibrio vulnificus bacterium’s natural habitat is in warm, brackish seawater because it requires salt to live.

The bacteria typically grow more quickly in warmer months. Infections are rare, but health officials say those with open wounds, cuts or scrapes should stay out of the water.

There have been 26 reported cases of vibrio vulnificus infections in Florida since January, officials said. (Read more)

2. 1 killed, thousands under evacuation orders as wildfires tear through Washington state - USA Today

At least one person was killed and thousands are under mandatory evacuation orders as fast-moving wildfires tear through eastern Washington and "problematic" weather is making it difficult for firefighters to get control of the flames, officials said Saturday.

The so-called Gray Fire burned over 185 structures near Spokane and had burned over 9,500 acres as of Saturday morning, the Washington Department of Natural Resources said. It was 0% contained, the department said in a social media post. It wasn't clear how the fire started, but it sparked around noon Friday and was fueled by wind and dry brush. Officials in Spokane County declared a state of emergency as of noon Saturday in response to the fire.

Spokane County Sheriff John Nowels said deputies were “running from house to house” urging people to leave their homes, NBC News reported. “We’ve had to rescue people by boat. We’ve had to rescue people by helicopter,” Nowels said. "Please honor Level 3 (evacuation), not doing so is hindering response," the Department of Natural Resources said. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for Washington State and the fires that are raging in that area. We pray the fires stop, and all that has been destroyed will be restored. We pray for lives to be saved and the people will heed the warnings given to them to evacuate.

4. Biden Energy Secretary Held Secret Talks With Chinese Official Tied To Hunter Biden’s Investments Before US Drained Oil Reserve - War Room

The Biden administration’s top energy official held multiple talks with a Chinese Communist Party official linked to an oil company counting investment from Hunter Biden’s private equity firm just days before the U.S. moved to release oil from its strategic reserve in 2021.

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm controversially spoke with China National Energy Administration chairman Zhang Jianhua one-on-one multiple times in meetings that had not previously been reported, according to internal Energy Department calendars obtained by Fox News.

Granholm and her Chinese Communist Party counterpart met on November 19th and 21st, 2021, just days before the White House announced its decision to release oil from the strategic reserve on November 23rd.

The story, which has already called into question the Chinese Communist Party’s continued influence over the Biden administration, also has a link to President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter. The first son has financial ties to the phone call participant through his previous employer, Sinopec. (Read more)

- Father, we pray that there will be accountability for this administration and the dealings of Hunter Biden. We pray justice will be served and that finally action will be taken for these deceiving, dishonest business transactions.

5. Huge Victory: Court Rules for Pro-Life Activists After DC Officials Arrested Them While Ignoring BLM - CBN

A federal appeals court ruled Tuesday that Washington D.C. officials "selectively" enforced a defacement statute to arrest pro-life activists who chalked a message on the sidewalk while allowing Black Lives Matter protestors to do much worse without any consequences.

In a 3-0 ruling, the court reversed a lower court's dismissal of a complaint filed by the Frederick Douglass Foundation and ruled the city authorities treated the pro-life activists more harshly than BLM protestors. (Read more here)

- Lord, we thank You for this ruling to recognize that the pro-life activists were treated more harshly while the BLM protestors suffered no consequences.

6. Maui water is unsafe even with filters, one of the lessons learned from fires in California - Breitbart

Experts are using strong language to warn Maui residents in Lahaina and Upper Kula not to filter their own tap water.

Hundreds of families in the Lahaina and Upper Kula areas have been told to minimize any contact with county water including showers. In Lahaina alone, aerial imagery and damage assessment data generated by Vexcel Data show 460 buildings apparently undamaged by the fires. These are places where people are returning.

For now, the county has told people to use bottled water for all their needs or to fill jugs at tankers called water buffalos, which have been brought in near the burns. (Read more)

- Lord, we pray for the people of Maui. Restore their water, in Jesus name. Your first miracle was that of water, and we pray safe water for the people of Maui.

7. Biden Admin Quietly ‘Disposing’ Of Trump Border Wall Materials To Be Auctioned Off - Daily Caller

For months, the Biden administration has been “disposing” of portions of the Trump border wall to be auctioned off, a local official at the southern border and the Department of Defense (DOD) told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The auction house GovPlanet has been selling off the “thick wall tubes” and other wall materials since April, according to listings on its website, and has already sold hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of wall materials. The Pentagon confirmed that the Biden administration is “disposing” of portions of the border wall construction materials in a statement to the DCNF.

“The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is disposing of the excess border wall materials in accordance with the Federal Acquisition Regulation,” Pentagon spokeswoman Raini Brunson told the DCNF.

The profits from the auction are going to the Pentagon, according to the New York Post. (Read more)

- Lord, we intercede over this action by the Biden administration! We need protection at the border. Give us a leader who recognizes this fact and takes action on it quickly. And why are the profits going to the Pentagon? We pray for a God-fearing leader in our land.

- "Furthermore, you shall select from all the people competent men who [reverently] fear God, men of truth, those who hate dishonest gain; you shall place these over the people as leaders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties and of tens." (Exodus 18:21)

The Angel Studios film, released July 4, ranks No. 10 among all 2023 films, placing it ahead of more big-budget movies such as No. 11 Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny ($173 million), No. 12 Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One ($161 million) and No. 13 Transformers: Rise of the Beasts ($157 million). Pixar’s Elemental ranks No. 15 with $150 million.

Sound of Freedom wasn’t even listed in a June 22 summer movie preview by BoxOfficePro.com, a leading website that forecasts box office revenue. It climbed to No. 1 at the box office four times, including on opening day.

The PG-13 film was inspired by a true story and follows a government agent who quits his job so he can rescue children in other countries from sex trafficking. Jim Caviezel portrays Ballard. (Read more)

The Daily Jot

The Responsibility Of Freedom

The Daily Jot, Bill Wilson, August 21, 2023

There are many descriptions of God. “God is love” is one that we often here. “God is freedom” is another. With that freedom, however, there is responsibility. It is the concept that to be truly free under the gift of God’s liberty, obedience to God’s precepts is mandatory. In that is choice. Our choices, made freely, determine the depth and extent of our freedom. Galatians 5:1 says, “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, death and resurrection made us free from the bondage of sin, an ultimate freedom. But this is a freedom where choosing to live our lives according to God’s laws determines our destiny.

In the beginning, God created a world of order. Then He created humans with the gift of freedom. However, the first humans used their freedom to bring chaos to the order God had created. From Adam and Eve’s disobedience, to the first murder by Cain, and the ensuing world of violence leading to the flood, chaos grew like a choking weed amidst the freedom. God set apart a human, Abraham, to leave the corrupted world and go to another land of promise so that his descendants could form another nation–a just nation that sustained personal liberty as governed by the laws of God.  On Mount Sinai the Israelites consented to become a nation under God, accepting the responsibility for obeying God’s laws, and becoming a set apart, holy nation. Judge Sets Trump's Georgia Bond at $200,000, Restricts Communication

Conditions were also set for some co-defendants

A judge has begun setting bond and release conditions for former President Donald Trump and some of his 18 co-defendants in the Georgia case alleging that they unlawfully interfered in the 2020 election.

According to newly posted court records (pdf) in Fulton County, Georgia, on Aug. 21, Judge Scott McAfee set bond for President Trump at $200,000.

Four other co-defendants reached bond agreements on Aug. 15, court filings show. Attorney John Eastman's bond was set at $100,000. The bond amount was far lower, at $10,000, for Scott Hall, a bail bondsman who's accused in the case. Attorney Kenneth Chesebro's bond was set at $100,000, and attorney Ray Smith III's bond is $50,000.

All five of the defendants are allowed to post 10 percent of the amount in a surety bond to guarantee future court appearances.

In addition to requiring the defendants to post the bond amounts, the judge is restricting whom the men can contact and what they can say. "The defendant shall not communicate in any way, directly or indirectly, about the facts of this case" with known co-defendants or with known witnesses, the documents for all five men state. However, they may use attorneys as conduits to contact co-defendants or witnesses, the orders state.

The order bars them from committing any acts to intimidate known co-defendants or known witnesses. They also must not "otherwise obstruct the administration of justice," the orders state. (The Epoch Times) Read more here.

- Holy King, we stand against the enemy prospering this evil agenda against President Trump and against the true story line of what actually happened in the 2020 election and beyond.  There has been far too much energy expended, and too many accusations pushed forward for anyone to believe the one-sided narrative of this national drama.  We pray that these spurious indictments compel the full release of both sides of the event to the entire nation and world.  May every person have full access to all versions of the matter, so that they may each decide the truth of what they choose to believe, in Jesus name.

- "'As for Me,' says the Lord, 'this is My covenant with them:  My Spirit who is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your descendants, nor from the mouth of your descendants' descendants,' says the Lord, 'from this time and forevermore.'"  (Isaiah 59:21)

Deadly Hilary hits Mexico, floods parts
of Southern California
Once a powerful Category 4 hurricane, Hilary made landfall in Mexico on Sunday while spreading flooding rain into Southern California.

Not quite a year after Tropical Storm Kay flooded parts of Southern California, towns and residents are cleaning up once again from copious amounts of rain thanks to Tropical Rainstorm Hilary, while the same storm turned deadly in Mexico.

A deadly Category 4 hurricane

Tropical Rainstorm Hilary formed on Aug. 16 off the coast of Mexico and underwent rapid intensification to become a Category 4 hurricane over open waters before making landfall late in the morning on Aug. 20, 2023. The storm moved ashore in Mexico's northern Baja California Peninsula as a tropical storm. One person near Santa Rosalia, Mexico, was killed by floodwaters, the government reported Sunday.

Track into Southern California was rare

Hurricane Hilary's track into Southern California was unusual. Primarily due to colder waters, which are similar to Atlantic Canada in August, tropical storms don't typically survive intact when they approach the state. In fact, this was only the second time a tropical storm was officially tracked over Southern California. In 1997, Hurricane Nora was tracked as a tropical storm in the easternmost part of the state. Official records began in 1949, but 10 years earlier, a likely tropical storm made landfall at Long Beach, California. Read More

After Drawing Boycotts Over Pro-Trans And Pro-Satan Merchandise

Target Suffers First Quarterly Miss In 6 Years
Target missed the target this year on “pride month.” The retail giant reported Wednesday that it missed its second-quarter revenue goals, after the company’s pro-transgender apparel provoked a consumer backlash. Target’s controversial merchandise included “pride” apparel for babies, “tuck-friendly” swimwear, and products designed by a self-professed Satanist and transgender activist. Target stock tanked from a peak of nearly $170 per share in April to just more than $126 per share by mid-June, where shares remain. Target’s stock lost nearly $14 billion in the last two weeks of May, as the controversial clothing collections made headlines. The company’s quarterly earnings report revealed the true scale of Target’s losses. The retail chain documented a 5.4 percent decline in comparable sales, the first such drop in six years.

According to National Review, Target Chief Growth Officer Christina Hennington told reporters on a call that the company will recalibrate the chain’s pride merchandise next year. Other corporate brands suffered similar stock carnage as a result of their LGBT campaigns this year — including Anheuser-Busch, the beer company behind Bud Light. The marketing team’s decision to use transgender-identified influencer Dylan Mulvaney to promote their product effectively rebranded the beer as the unofficial beverage of transgenderism, resulting in a wide-reaching boycott from which the company has yet to recover. Stores in the Midwest even struggled to offload built-up inventory of the beverage by effectively giving away the drink for free, offering customers a rebate equal to the beer’s purchase price. The corporate backlash coincides with a series of surveys published this summer that found Americans moving to the right on culture war issues like abortion and transgenderism. Scripture: You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in You. Isaiah 26:3

Lyrics:
Peace, perfect peace, in this dark world of sin?
The blood of Jesus whispers peace within.

Peace, perfect peace, by thronging duties pressed?
To do the will of Jesus, this is rest.

Peace, perfect peace, with sorrows surging round?
On Jesus’ bosom naught but calm is found.

Peace, perfect peace, with loved ones far away?
In Jesus’ keeping we are safe, and they.

Peace, perfect peace, our future all unknown?
Jesus we know, and He is on the throne.

Peace, perfect peace, death shadowing us and ours?
Jesus has vanquished death and all its powers.

It is enough: earth’s struggles soon shall cease,
And Jesus call us to Heaven’s perfect peace.

Peace, perfect peace, ’mid suffering’s sharpest throes?
The sympathy of Jesus breathes repose.
