Blinken, Jordanian FM, discuss need for calm in Jerusalem over religious holidays

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Friday “to reaffirm the deep strategic relationship between the United States and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.”

“The Secretary and Foreign Minister discussed the need for calm in Jerusalem during April as Muslims, Jews, and Christians celebrate Ramadan, Passover, and Easter,” the State Department said in a statement. “The Secretary also spoke of his recent participation in the Negev Summit and ways regional partners can work together to support the Palestinian people.”

Also on Friday, Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman met with Israeli Regional Cooperation Minister Esawi Frej. She expressed her condolences following the recent wave of terrorist attacks in Israel, the State Department said. “They discussed efforts to strengthen Israeli-Palestinian economic relations in a way that brings tangible improvements to the quality of life of the Palestinian people while also enhancing and deepening Israel’s integration in the region.”

The two also spoke about efforts to expand normalization and the importance of building on normalization agreements to further progress on the Israeli-Palestinian peace track, the statement reads. “They discussed the importance of all Palestinians and Israelis living safely and securely with equal measures of freedom, dignity, and prosperity. The Deputy Secretary reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to a two-state solution and the importance of reducing inter-communal tensions in Israel ahead of the religious holidays.”

Prayer: Abba, we are dismayed that in the midst of an uptick of violent terrorist attacks against the Jewish people, that our nation is taking a stand to divide the land of Israel and supports the creation of a Palestinian state! Abba, we say NO to this! We draw a red line in the sand to this!  We stand in agreement with Your covenant promise that You made to Abraham that this land is for Abraham's spiritual descendants for all eternity!

Scripture: On the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying: “To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates". (Genesis 15:18)
FOCUS ON ISRAEL

1. Eliminated terrorists were about to carry out attack in central Israel - Israel National News
The three Palestinian Arab terrorists eliminated in an Israeli counter-terror operation over the weekend were on their way to carry out a terrorist attack in central Israel, Channel 12 reported Sunday night.

According to senior Israeli security officials cited in the report, the three Islamic Jihad terrorists killed in the pre-dawn operation Saturday were about to cross over into pre-1967 Israel to carry out an attack in the center of the country.

Officials from the Shin Bet internal security agency said the terror cell had even already switched the license plates on their vehicle from those of the Palestinian Authority to Israeli license plates, in preparation for the crossing. The terrorist responsible for the recent shooting attack in Bnei Brak had used a similar tactic to infiltrate the Green Line.

Shin Bet officials cited in the report also said that had the operation to eliminate the terrorists failed, three backup army units were positioned at three points along the route the terrorists were expected to take into central Israel. (Read more)

2. 'We have entered a new phase,' PM says during tour of Samaria security barrier - Israel Hayom

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett visited the Shin Bet Security Agency's Samaria Regional Brigade headquarters on Sunday to discuss the latest response to the spate of terrorist attacks.

Bennett also toured the security barrier with the Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar and the Israel Defense Forces GOC Central Command Yehuda Fuchs. During the visit, he received a briefing on the recent raids in Palestinian cities, particularly in Jenin, which foiled potential attacks and culminated with the arrest of many. He also got a tour of the Shin Bet forward operating base where officials gather intelligence to thwart terrorism.

"We have entered a new phase of a long routine aimed at breaking the wave of terrorism," he said, referring to Operation Breakwater, launched after 11 people were killed by terrorists in three attacks in the span of a week.

"Over the weekend, security forces managed to foil an imminent attack before it could be carried out," Bennett said during the visit. "The terrorists have a lot of ideas and that is why we are alert to the highest extent, and this includes the Shin Bet and the Israel Police so that we could identify even the slightest plot and frustrate it in time. Here on the security barrier, the IDF is now deployed in record numbers along the various breaches."  (Read more)

3. Bennett Offers Ramadan Greetings to Jordan’s Monarch, But King Warns Israel to Stop ‘Escalation’ - Jewish Press

The Tale of Two Cities has nothing on the amazing difference between statements coming out of Jerusalem and Amman about the same telephone conversation this weekend.

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s office told reporters that he spoke Sunday afternoon with King Abdullah II of Jordan to offer his best wishes to the king, his family and the Jordanian people on the occasion of the month of Ramadan.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog visited Amman at the invitation of the king last week.

Bennett also “thanked the King for his firm statement against the terrorist attacks that have taken place in Israel in recent days,” the Prime Minister’s Office said. (Read more)

4. ‘Historic’: Israel, UAE conclude free trade agreement - World Israel News

Economy and Industry Minister Maj.-Gen. (Ret.) Orna Barbivay and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Minister of State for Foreign Trade Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi announced the conclusion of negotiations on a comprehensive bilateral free trade agreement.

The Abraham Accords, which were signed in September 2020, are the basis for diplomatic relations between the State of Israel and the UAE. One year later, in November 2021, negotiations began on a bilateral free trade agreement, which were concluded Friday.

The matter was discussed by Prime Minister Bennett and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed in Abu Dhabi last December, when it was agreed to accelerate contacts ahead of the signing, and at their meeting in Egypt last week, where the leaders agreed on to complete the agreement within days. (Read more)

5. Turkey's Erdoğan 'strongly condemns' terror attacks in Israel - Jerusalem Post

The Turkish president phoned Israeli counterpart Isaac Herzog to offer his condemnation of the latest Palestinian terror attacks.

In an unusual move, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan strongly condemned the three recent terror attacks that claimed 11 lives, in a call with President Isaac Herzog on Friday.

“Condemning the heinous terror attacks that recently took place in different cities in Israel, President Erdogan conveyed his condolences for those who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery to the injured,” the office of the Turkish presidency said after the conversation.

Herzog thanked Erdogan “for his important remarks and noted that innocent lives were taken in despicable terror attacks and that this is an enormous tragedy,” according to the President’s Office. (Read more)

1. Manchin calls Biden lifting Title 42 border policy 'frightening decision' - Fox News

Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., on Friday tore into the Biden administration’s move to lift the Title 42 border policy at the end of May, calling it a "frightening decision" and warning that the extraordinary numbers will "only get worse" in the months ahead.

"Today’s announcement by the [Centers for Disease Control] and the Biden administration is a frightening decision," Manchin said in a statement.

The CDC announced that it will be lifting the Title 42 public health policy, that has been used by both the Trump and Biden administrations to quickly expel migrants at the southern border since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak, on May 23.

"After considering current public health conditions and an increased availability of tools to fight COVID-19 (such as highly effective vaccines and therapeutics), the CDC Director has determined that an Order suspending the right to introduce migrants into the United States is no longer necessary," the Centers for Disease Control said in a statement earlier on Friday. (Read more)

- Father, we pray wisdom on how to challenge and delay this order from being lifted in order to protect the border.

- When a man's folly brings his way to ruin, his heart rages against the Lord. (Proverbs 19:3)

2. Biden immigration decision could make midterm climate even tougher for Democrats - Fox News

Minutes after President Biden’s administration rescinded Trump-era pandemic restrictions along the U.S.-Mexico border that effectively blocked migrants from entering the U.S. to seek asylum, Republicans warned it would worsen the border crisis and potentially help deliver a GOP victory in the midterms.

The president’s move came after more than a year of pressure from fellow Democrats amid frustration with the inability to end a policy they view as illegal and cruel to those fleeing persecution.

But the order from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to lift on May 23 what’s known as Title 42 could become another liability for the president and congressional Democrats who already face historical headwinds and an unfavorable political climate partially fueled by soaring inflation and skyrocketing gas prices. The Democrats are trying to maintain their razor-thin majorities in the House of Representatives and Senate in November’s midterm elections.

- Father, we pray for a secure border and pray the citizens of the United States will vote for leaders who take measures to secure the border in the upcoming elections.

- Choose for your tribes wise, understanding, and experienced men, and I will appoint them as your heads.’ (Deut. 1:13)

3. House Passes Bill to Limit Price of Insulin, Republicans Object to ‘Government Drug-Pricing’- Epoch Times

The U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation on March 31 that will limit the monthly cost of insulin to $35, a move that is claimed to be for the benefit of millions of Americans who depend on the drug.

HR 6833 or the Affordable Insulin Now Act was sponsored by Rep. Angie Craig (D-Minn.). It was passed by the House largely along party lines by a vote of 232–193, with only a few Republicans supporting it.

“The bill caps cost-sharing under the Medicare prescription drug benefit for insulin products at (1) $35 in 2023 regardless of whether a beneficiary has reached the annual out-of-pocket spending threshold, and (2) $35 beginning in 2024 for those who have not yet reached this threshold,” from the bill’s summary.

An annual out-of-pocket spending threshold refers to the maximum amount an individual has to pay for covered healthcare services in a plan year. For the 2022 plan year, the out-of-pocket spending limit is set at $8,700 per individual and $17,400 for a family.

After spending this amount on deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance for in-network care and services, a person’s health plan will pay 100 percent of the costs of the covered benefit. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for wisdom on this insulin bill. We pray truth be revealed on whether it is a type of control of healthcare by the government, as the concerns were raised by the Republicans. Lead them in decisions of what is best for the people.

- Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. (Ephesians 5:11)

4. DeSantis Hints at Possible Repeal of Disney’s ‘Special Privileges’ - Epoch Times

As Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis wrapped up a press conference in Ponte Vedra Beach on Thursday, he floated the possibility that state lawmakers might repeal the 1967 Reedy Creek Improvement Act in response to Disney’s ongoing opposition to the recently signed “Parental Rights in Education” law, dubbed by liberal opponents of the measure as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

The 1967 Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID)—drafted by the Florida Legislature in cooperation with Walt Disney World and signed into law by Republican Gov. Claude Kirk—effectively created two municipal-style governments, Bay Creek and Reedy Creek, to regulate the Lake Buena Vista land where the Walt Disney World Resort operates. Through the RCID, Disney operates its own fire protection, security services, utilities, and planning. Its Board of Supervisors is selected by landowners surrounding the 38.5-square-mile property, effectively allowing Disney to operate as its own government. If the RCID is repealed, Disney’s property would suddenly be under the complete authority of Orange and Osceola counties.

The announcement came as another installment in the ongoing feud between Disney and DeSantis since the governor signed the bill into law. After facing pressure from LGBTQ communities and staff for his silence, Disney CEO Bob Chapek issued a statement to his employees on March 11, apologizing for not being a “stronger ally” to them, saying the bill represents “yet another challenge to basic human rights.” Chapek then announced Disney would immediately halt all political donations in Florida.

On March 30, Florida Rep. Joe Harding, the Republican lawmaker who sponsored the bill, announced he is returning the $3,126 he had received in political donations associated with Disney. (Read more)

- Father, give Governor De Santis wisdom about Disney and their special privileges. Guide and direct him in his decisions.

- Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. (Prov. 3:5-6)

5. Lawmakers Demand Hunter Biden’s Communications With Obama White House - Epoch Times

Several GOP lawmakers sent more letters to the Biden administration demanding records of any communication between Hunter Biden and the White House.

“Hunter Biden’s connections throughout the Russian sphere of influence have now become especially relevant in the fast-moving and developing Russian war in Ukraine,” the Republicans on the House Oversight Committee said in their letters to the White House, dated Thursday, March 31.

They argued that “if the Russian government is attempting to influence American policy in Ukraine by exploiting Hunter Biden’s connection with his father—the President of the United States—the American people deserve to know it,” according to their letter.

The Republicans are seeking “documents and communications” between the White House and “members or associates of the Biden family” from Jan. 20, 2021, to now, the letter said. They’re also seeking a list of “past and ongoing foreign business interests and past and ongoing foreign relations for members of the Biden family.” (Read more)

- Father, reveal any corruption that is happening now, and in the past regarding Hunter Biden and all his activities. Bring everything to light, in Jesus name.

- They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved. (2 Peter 2:19)

6. Arizona Gov. Ducey Signs Bills Banning Transgender Surgeries for Minors, Males in Girls' Sports - Breaking Christian News

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey signed conservative bills on Tuesday banning "sex change" surgeries for minors, gender-confused males in women's and girls' sports, and nearly all abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. He also approved a law requiring proof of citizenship to vote in presidential elections.

Ducey's action makes Arizona one of 14 states that have restricted girls' sports to actual females in recent years and the third to enact legislation protecting minors from dangerous, experimental transgender procedures.

"Today I signed S.B. 1138 and S.B. 1165, legislation to protect participation and fairness for female athletes, and to ensure that individuals undergoing irreversible gender reassignment surgery are of adult age," Ducey said in a letter on Wednesday. He described the measures as "common sense."

SB 1138 bans irreversible "sex change" procedures, including genital mutilation surgeries, hysterectomies, and mastectomies, for children under 18. It doesn't apply in cases of a "medically verifiable disorder of sex development." A previous version would have also restricted hormone drugs, but a lone Republican, state Sen. Tyler Pace, blocked it last month. (Read more)

- Thank You Lord for the signing of these bills by Governor Ducey. We pray more Governors to be brave and do the same.

- And not frightened in anything by your opponents. This is a clear sign to them of their destruction, but of your salvation, and that from God. (Philippians 1:28)

7. 101 police officers shot in line of duty, a 43% increase from 2021: National Fraternal Order of Police - Fox News

The National Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), the world's largest organization of law enforcement officers, has counted 101 officers shot in the line of duty as of April 1, including 17 fatally, so far in 2022.

The latest figure marks a 43% increase compared to the number of officers shot at the same time period in 2021 and a 63% increase compared to 2020, FOP reports.

"We are in the midst of a real crisis. The violence directed at law enforcement officers is unlike anything I’ve seen in my 36 years of law enforcement," National FOP President Patrick Yoes said in a Friday statement. "Last year was one of the most dangerous years for law enforcement, with more officers shot in the line of duty since the National Fraternal Order of Police began recording this data."

He added that FOP's data so far in 2022 indicates that "we are outpacing last year’s numbers of officers shot and killed in the line of duty." (Read more)

- Father, we pray protection over our law enforcement officers. Keep them safe each day as they walk out of their homes, in Jesus name.

- The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. (Psalm 34:7)

8. U.S. cancels ICBM test due to Russia nuclear tensions - Reuters

WASHINGTON, April 1 (Reuters) - The U.S. military has canceled a test of its Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile that it had initially aimed only to delay in a bid to lower nuclear tensions with Russia during the war in Ukraine, the Air Force told Reuters on Friday.

The Pentagon first announced a delay of the test on March 2 after Russia said it was putting its nuclear forces on high alert. Washington said at the time it was important both the United States and Russia "bear in mind the risk of miscalculation and take steps to reduce those risks." But it had publicly stated its intent only to delay the test "a little bit," and not cancel it.

Air Force spokesperson Ann Stefanek said the decision to cancel the test of the LGM-30G Minuteman III missile was due to the same reasons as when it had been first delayed. The next Minuteman III test is scheduled to take place later this year. "The Air Force is confident in the readiness of the strategic forces of the United States," Stefanek said.

Altering the test schedule for America's ICBM force can be controversial. U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe, the top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, expressed disappointment in March at the delay of a test he said was critical to ensure America's nuclear deterrent remains effective. (Read more)

- Father, thank You for wisdom to delay this test due to the war in Ukraine.

- Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future. (Proverbs 19:20)

9. Tanks and bodies mark path of Russian retreat near Kyiv - Reuters

Ukraine recaptured more territory around Kyiv from Russian soldiers who left shattered villages and their own abandoned tanks as they moved away from the capital, while a disputed cross-border strike in Russia complicated peace talks on Friday.

President Vladimir Putin sent troops on Feb. 24 for what he calls a "special operation" to demilitarise Ukraine. The West calls it an unprovoked war of aggression that has killed thousands, uprooted a quarter of Ukraine's population and brought Russian-U.S. relations to their worst point since the Cold War.

In the Russian border city of Belgorod, a logistics hub for its war effort, Moscow said Ukrainian helicopters struck a fuel depot, causing a huge fire. Ukraine denied responsibility for the incident, the first of its kind in the five-week-old war. The fire destroyed several oil tanks and will likely add short-term strain to Russia's already stretched logistics chains, Britain's defence ministry said.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the incident could jeopardise Ukrainian-Russian peace talks, which resumed on Friday by video link. Russia will strengthen its western borders so it won't "cross anyone's mind to attack," Peskov said later. (read more)

-Father, we pray for truth to be reported by the media so we will know how to pray and intercede for this war to end. We pray the peace talks will continue.

- If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. (Romans 12:18)

10. Franklin Graham Writes Putin and Zelenskyy, Requests Cease-Fire during Holy Week - Christian Headlines

Evangelist Franklin Graham this week wrote to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, requesting a cease-fire from the war during Holy Week of the Western and Eastern churches, Religion News Service reported.

Holy Week for the Western churches begins April 10, and for the Eastern churches, April 17.

"If they can stop fighting for a week or 10 days, maybe they can stop fighting for two weeks," Graham told RNS by phone. "If they stop for two weeks, maybe they can stop for a month. If they stop for a month, maybe they can stop for good. You've got to start somewhere."

Graham, the president of Samaritan's Purse, said he isn't confident he will hear back from Putin but believes the attempt is necessary. (Read more)

- Father, we pray for softened hearts to stop the fighting for Holy Week. Grant this request from Franklin Graham.

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. (Mark 11:24)
Court Rules California’s Corporate Diversity Law Unconstitutional

A Los Angeles court determined on Saturday that a California law requiring certain workplace boardroom quotas of underrepresented communities is unconstitutional.

Conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit (pdf) in early October 2020 arguing that any spending of taxpayer funds or taxpayer-paid resources on the quota law is “illegal under the California Constitution.”

The lawsuit was filed days after Gov. Gavin Newsom signed it into law. The measure required publicly traded companies to have a minimum of one director from an “underrepresented community” on its board by the end of last year, and potentially more such directors by the end of 2022 depending on the number of members on a given board.

According to the law, a “director from an underrepresented community” refers to “an individual who self-identifies as Black, African American, Hispanic, Latino, Asian, Pacific Islander, Native American, Native Hawaiian, or Alaska Native, or who self-identifies as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender.”

Judicial Watch noted in its motion for summary judgment (pdf): “Laws that explicitly distinguish between individuals on racial or ethnic, sexual preference, and transgender status grounds fall within the core of the prohibition of the equal protection clause.”

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a statement on Saturday: “This historic California court decision declared unconstitutional one of the most blatant and significant attacks in the modern era on constitutional prohibitions against discrimination.

“In its ruling today, the court upheld the core American value of equal protection under the law. Judicial Watch’s taxpayer clients are heroes for standing up for civil rights against the Left’s pernicious efforts to undo anti-discrimination protections.” (The Epoch Times) Read more here.

- Father God, we thank You for this ruling, which is based upon our constitutional mandate of honoring equal protection under the law. We ask that this ruling would serve as a key precedent in the days ahead, when similar cases are brought before the bench. In Your Name, amen.

- "But let justice roll on like a river,
    righteousness like a never-failing stream!"

NASA astronaut Mark Vande Hei
Record-Setting NASA Astronaut, Crewmates
Return from Space Station

After extending the record for the longest single spaceflight in history by an American to 355 days, NASA astronaut Mark Vande Hei returned to Earth on Wednesday, March 30, along with Roscosmos cosmonauts Anton Shkaplerov and Pyotr Dubrov.

The trio departed the International Space Station at 3:21 a.m. EDT and made a safe, parachute-assisted landing at 7:28 a.m. (5:28 p.m. Kazakhstan time) southeast of the remote town of Dzhezkazgan, Kazakhstan.

"Mark's mission is not only record-breaking, but also paving the way for future human explorers on the Moon, Mars, and beyond," said NASA Administrator Bill Nelson. "Our astronauts make incredible sacrifices in the name of science, exploration, and cutting-edge technology development, not least among them time away from loved ones. NASA and the nation are proud to welcome Mark home and grateful for his incredible contributions throughout his year-long stay on the International Space Station."

Vande Hei’s extended mission will provide researchers the opportunity to observe the effects of long-duration spaceflight on humans as the agency plans to return to the Moon under the Artemis program and prepare for exploration of Mars. Read More

The Good News Corner #1

Music filled the streets of downtown Annapolis on Saturday, but it wasn’t just for entertainment. It was to raise funds for Ukrainians in need.

“We wanted to find a way that we could help,” said Jack Shenk, a 16-year-old sophomore at Broadneck High School.

Shenk said that he took part in a livestream fundraiser organized by his vocal coach about a month ago that helped to raise $5,000 to support Ukraine. It was then that Jack and his friends were inspired to take it a step further.

The teenagers organized a five-hour concert in the heart of Annapolis to raise money for the humanitarian organization Project HOPE, which is doing relief work in Ukraine.

Ukrainian American pastor freed from Russian forces over a week after abduction: 'God is good'
A Ukrainian American pastor residing in war-torn eastern Ukraine has been released from detention more than a week after Russian forces captured him during the ongoing invasion of Ukraine. The wife of Dmitry Bodyu, who was reportedly abducted by Russian forces from a home in the Russian-controlled city of Melitopol on March 19, announced on Facebook Monday that her husband had been released. “Dmitry is home,” Helen Bodyu wrote. “He’s doing well. Thank you for your participation, for your concern, help and love! God is good!!! Praise the Lord!”

The pastor's family had previously told media that Russian forces stormed their home, confiscated her husband's American passport along with their phones and other devices. After the abduction, the pastor hadn't been heard from for days. According to NBC Dallas-Fort Worth, Bodyu emigrated to the United States from the Soviet Union in 1990 along with his family. He settled in Burleson, Texas, located near Dallas. Pastor Otis Gillaspie of Open Door Church in Burleson sponsored Bodyu and his family, enabling them to come to the U.S. Although Bodyu and his family became American citizens, he opted to return to Ukraine along with his wife to establish several churches.

Bodyu serves as the pastor of the Word of Life Church in Melitopol. Gillaspie told the local news outlet that despite the danger he currently faces by remaining in Ukraine, Bodyu “won’t leave ... his flock” because he “feels a mandate from God to do what God has told him to do, no matter what is happening around him. I really feel like prayer makes a difference, and it’s made a difference in this case,” Gillaspie added. “You can’t meet him and not like him. I felt like he [captured] those who captured him.” (Chrisitan Post) Read More
- Father God, we thank You for the release of Pastor Bodyu, and of the witness of his faith. We ask a rich blessing to rest upon his ministry now, and always, in Your mighty Name, amen and amen.
