Alvin Bragg Has Given New York City Over to ‘Lawlessness’: Democratic Councilman
|
|
Democratic New York City Councilman Robert Holden took aim at Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s leadership—or perceived lack thereof—at a New York field hearing of the House Judiciary Committee on April 17.
“I’m here to address the lawlessness that has taken over the city in recent years as a result of the failed progressive policies implemented by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg,” Holden testified before the committee.
Noting that Bragg’s first year in office had been marked by a “dramatic shift” in the prosecution of crime, Holden asserted that the district attorney’s “soft on crime” policies suggested his top priority was not protecting law-abiding citizens but keeping criminals out of jail.
“On his first day in office, Bragg issued a memo that decriminalized a broad range of offenses and reduced charges for violent crime,” the councilman said. “This was a signal for every criminal that it was open season on law-abiding citizens in New York County.”
Bragg, as well as politicians in the city council and on the state level, are contributing to what he sees as a “pro-criminal element” in New York City, Holden said.
“We’re going to have to change this,” the councilor told The Epoch Times in an interview following his testimony. “We’re going to get to a point where people are fed up in New York state and city—and they’re leaving. I know a lot of friends have left for areas other than New York City.”
Holden called for a simple solution: start enforcing accountability.
“That means if you commit a crime—you shoot a gun in New York City—you should go to jail,” Holden said. “Put the criminals in jail. Period.” (Epoch Ties) Read more

FBI Arrests 2 Over Secret Chinese Police Station in NYC

NEW YORK—The FBI arrested two people on April 17 on charges of operating a secret police station in New York City on behalf of China’s regime, according to the Justice Department (DOJ).
The duo, Lu Jianwang, 61, and Chen Jinping, 59, conspired to work as agents of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and took orders from the regime in order to track down and silence Chinese dissidents living in the United States, prosecutors said.
The police station is believed to be one of more than 100 overseas stations operated by the Chinese regime in 53 countries, according to Safeguard Defenders, a Spain-based nonprofit.
The effort revealed an immense violation of U.S. sovereignty by the CCP and a flagrant violation of international law, according to U.S. District Attorney Breon Peace.
“This prosecution reveals the Chinese government’s flagrant violation of our nation’s sovereignty by establishing a secret police station in the middle of New York City,” Peace said at a news conference in Brooklyn.

What Can Parents Do?
Erin Brewer, author and co-founder of Advocates Protecting Children, was a gender-confused kid before transgender ideology was prevalent in society. She has written several books including, “Common Sense Care, Parenting Gender-Confused Kids With Truth and Love,” and the children’s book, “Always Erin.”
Brewer, who grew up in the mid-70s to 80s, was sexually assaulted by two men as a very young girl. The attack left her angry and aggressive. She reasoned that the assault would not have happened if she had been a boy. So, when she started first grade, she decided to be a boy.
Luckily, her teachers recognized she needed help.
“My teachers were a godsend to me,” Brewer told The Epoch Times. “My family life was a mess. … I had some tremendous teachers that really saved me because they were so kind and caring.”
Brewer said no one ever affirmed her gender confusion. Rather, she received therapy to address the trauma she had endured. She fears if she was a child with those feelings today, she would have lost the opportunity to be a mother, which is why she advocates for parents to talk to their children about the topic.
“In the same way that you might [talk] to your child about stranger danger,” Brewer said. “Talk to your children about the fact that there are going to be people who try to confuse them and that those are people who don’t have their best interests at heart. Really, make it clear so that kids know to look out for this.”
Most children who are gender confused have other emotional or social issues that need to be addressed, according to Cretella. “Hug your child and tell him or her that you love them unconditionally and will do whatever it takes to help them achieve optimal health,” she said, adding that “a sterilized and mutilated body is not optimal health.”

Should we be surprised? As our society comes apart at the seams all around us, Satan and Satanism are becoming extremely popular.
Videos featuring Satan are getting millions of views on TikTok and YouTube, millions of Americans are watching shows that feature Satan as a main character on Netflix and other streaming services, and the Satanic Temple has become one of the fastest growing religious organizations that the United States has ever seen.
As you will see below, traditional American values are declining at a very rapid pace, and it was inevitable that something would fill that void. In fact, it turns out that Satanism's "values" correspond almost perfectly with the "values" that much of the population has already embraced in this day and age.
Once upon a time, most Americans were repulsed by anything that had to do with Satan.
But now Satan is eagerly welcomed into homes and hearts all over the nation. Today, Satan has become one of the hottest spiritual figures in America, and that is unlikely to change any time soon.
The following comes from a Newsweek article entitled "Satan is Getting Hot as Hell in American Pop Culture"...
The Devil is front and center in movies, TV shows, podcasts and even children's books. There are Satan After School Clubs, while the proliferating Satanist groups have their own political divisions.
There's The Exorcist Files, in which Father Carlos Martins recreates exorcisms, and the podcast routinely tops the list of the most popular in the "spirituality" categories. On Netflix alone there are dozens of titles dealing with hellish demons, including Warrior Nun, Devil in Ohio, The Bastard Son & the Devil Himself and Lucifer, in which the ruler of Hell runs a piano bar in California. Comedy is also fair game, thus Ted Danson plays a torturous demon who is prone to mistakes in the Netflix series, The Good Place.
On top of everything else, a major convention is coming up. It is being billed as "the largest satanic gathering in history", and it is being held in Boston at the end of April...
This year's event is taking place in Boston, Massachusetts, from April 28-30, 2023, and is titled "Hexennacht in Boston" -- otherwise known as "Witches Night." On the announcement page, the Satanic Temple (TST) laments Boston Mayor Michelle Wu "for her unconstitutional efforts to keep TST out of Boston's public spaces" and announces that the event will be dedicated to her.
In return, purchasers are promised a "weekend of blasphemy and remembrance." In the old days, maybe a few fringe weirdos would get together for something like that.
But this year's "SatanCon" was completely sold out six weeks in advance.
There has always been evil in our society, but today vast multitudes of people are openly celebrating it. For those that wish to revel in the evil that they are doing, Satanism is perfect for them.
But what is going to happen to our nation as even more Americans reject Christ and embrace Satan? We are truly in uncharted territory, and we should all be deeply alarmed by the tremendous evil that is rapidly growing all around us. (Prophecy News Watch)

JERUSALEM, April 17 (Reuters) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that normalizing relations with Saudi Arabia would be a "giant leap" towards ending the Arab-Israeli conflict.
"We want normalization and peace with Saudi Arabia. We view that as perhaps a giant leap towards ending the Arab-Israeli conflict," Netanyahu said, speaking during a meeting in Jerusalem with U.S. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham.

2. IDF troops carry out raid in Jenin, clash with Palestinian gunmen - Times of Israel
Israeli troops clashed with Palestinian gunmen in the northern West Bank city of Jenin on Tuesday afternoon, according to the military and Palestinian media reports.
The Israel Defense Forces said troops were operating in the Jenin refugee camp, but did not immediately provide further details.
Palestinian media outlets said special forces detained two Palestinians and exchanged fire with local gunmen. The detained men were named as brothers Ahmed and Muhammad Jaradat. (Read more)

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisithreatened to destroy Tel Aviv and Haifa at the slightest provocation in a speech he delivered during the country’s National Army Day parade that also fell on Israel’s Holocaust Remembrance Day.
“The slightest mistake against our country will be responded with a harsh response and will be accompanied by the destruction of Haifa and Tel Aviv,” Raisi said according to an English language translation of his speechposted on his office’s web page.

5. 13,000 join March of the Living to Auschwitz-Birkenau - Israel National News
The annual March of the Living took place today (Tuesday) from Auschwitz I to Auschwitz-Birkenau, marking Israel’s national Holocaust Memorial Day. The March of the Living – taking place for the 35th year – was led by 40 Holocaust Survivors, alongside more than 13,000 participants from 25 countries around the world.
The theme of this year’s March was “Honoring Jewish Heroism in the Holocaust" marking the 80th anniversary of the heroic Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. The uprising lasted four weeks and has become a symbol of Jewish courage and heroism during the Holocaust. Addressing the ceremony at Auschwitz-Birkenau was Italian President Sergio Mattarella, as well as Israel’s Minister of Education, Yoav Kisch. Minister Kisch spoke of how his grandfather had fought, and fallen in battle against the Nazis as the highest ranking Jewish servicemen in the British army in WWII. Riley Gaines, a former All-American swimmer from the University of Kentucky, didn't hold back when reacting to President Joe Biden's promise to veto a bill that would prevent biological males from participating in women's sports.
Speaking with Fox News Digital on Monday just hours after the White House released a statement that slammed the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, or H.R. 734, Gaines said Biden's veto promise was evidence he was putting a "radical minority" ahead of women across the country.

2. McConnell rules out helping Democrats replace Feinstein on Judiciary Committee - Washington Examiner
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) ruled out throwing Democrats a lifeline in their efforts to temporarily replace Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) on the Judiciary Committee. McConnell hailed Feinstein as a "titanic figure" and a "stateswoman," but insisted her absence hasn't stopped the panel's work and has instead forced Democrats to focus on judicial nominees that garner bipartisan support.
“Let’s be clear. Senate Republicans will not take part in sidelining a temporarily absent colleague off a committee just so Democrats can force through their very worst nominees," McConnell declared from the Senate floor Tuesday.

3. Texas lawsuit challenging Biden student loan rule transferred to more liberal court - Fox News
A federal court in Texas that has issued several rulings favorable to conservatives sided with the Biden administration Monday in a case challenging a new Education Department student loan rule, finding the lawsuit was improperly filed there.
U.S. District Judge Mark Pittman, a Donald Trump appointee, agreed with the Justice Department that a lawsuit against new regulations for the Education Department's borrower defense to repayment program should be transferred to the Western District of Texas in Austin, moving the case away from the Northern District of Texas, a court dominated by Republican-appointed judges.
Several high-profile cases challenging President Biden's policies have been filed with the Northern District of Texas, where critics have claimed conservative groups are forum shopping for favorable decisions. 4. Housing starts plunge 17.2%, raising recession fears - Washington Examiner
The number of housing starts tumbled in March, an indication that the housing market is taking a hit and may be falling into a recession.
Housing starts measure the change in the number of new residential buildings that began construction. Starts fell 17.2% from March 2022 to this past month, according to a Tuesday report from the Census Bureau. They are now at 1.42 million. From February to March, they fell 0.8%.
Additionally, permits to build, which are seen as a proxy for future construction, decreased by 8.8% in March.
“We expect choppiness for single-family construction in the months ahead, with the 2023 data posting significant year-over-year weakness before improving on a sustained basis,” the National Association of Home Builders's chief economist Robert Dietz said. (Read more)

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer said Monday he has identified "six additional members" of the Biden family who "may have benefited" from Biden family business dealings and vowed to continue to investigate whether those dealings pose a "national security threat."
Comer, R-Ky., and members of the committee, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene, R-Ga., visited the Treasury Department Monday to view financial records related to the Biden family and their past business associates as part of their investigation.

7. Planned Parenthood And Rachel Levine Partnered Up To Peddle Cross-Sex Hormones, Emails Show - The Daily Caller
Planned Parenthood collaborated with now-Assistant Secretary for Health Rachel Levine, along with gender clinics and LGBT groups, in its effort to provide cross-sex hormones at its clinics, according to documents obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.
Levine, who was acting secretary of health for Pennsylvania in 2017, ran a working group of medical providers and LGBT activists called the Transgender Health Working Group, which included representatives from Planned Parenthood, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) gender clinic and the Mazzoni Center. Levine’s office played an active role in connecting a local Planned Parenthood affiliate with transgender clinics throughout the year it began offering hormones, documents obtained through public records requests show.
The collaboration was part of a broader push from Levine’s office to promote cross-sex treatments that coincided with a meteoric rise in state funding for the procedures, including for children. Six years later, Levine is now a high-ranking Biden official with power to steer federal policy on health care. (Read more)

8. Fox News and Dominion settle election defamation lawsuit for $787.5 million - Fox News
- Fox Corp. and its cable networks agreed Tuesday to pay $787.5 million to Dominion Voting Systems to settle a defamation lawsuit over false claims that Dominion’s machines swayed the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.
The settlement, which came after a 12-member jury had been seated for trial in the case in Delaware Superior Court, averted a weeks-long trial that could have seen top Fox TV hosts and network boss Rupert Murdoch publicly testify.
The deal, which will cost Fox nearly half of the $1.6 billion that Dominion originally demanded, was struck as opening arguments were delayed for hours amid speculation that the parties were discussing a resolution of the case.

The Hostile Environment Toward Religion In America

Religious freedom is a cornerstone to both physical and spiritual liberty as spiritual bondage leads to physical bondage. The current administration’s disposition toward religious freedom is creating an atmosphere of antagonism and persecution against people of the Jewish and Christian faith. From locking down churches during the COVID government mandates to demonizing Christians over Biblical instruction against sexual deviancy and abortion, the Biden Administration is continuing the animosity against faith that was accelerated during the Obama White House. The federal government, extreme leftist organizations, and the news media is fanning the flames of hostility.
The House Judiciary Committee is investigating the FBI for infiltrating churches, Catholic churches in particular, with an eye toward identifying violent extremism and domestic terrorists. Tehran is fighting a war against Israel on all fronts, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant warned on Sunday, as a Jerusalem-based think tank called for a suspension of judicial reform in light of the danger of a broad-scale conflict on Israel’s borders and with Iran.
The IDF has “acted and will continue to act in all arenas, in overt and covert operations along the border, across the border, and even far from the border,” Gallant said at a special memorial ceremony for those who fell in the battle for Jaffa in 1948.
“Iran is waging a multi-front war of attrition against the State of Israel,” Gallant said, adding that it was “continuing its attempts to establish itself on the northern front and at the same time sending its proxies to Judea, Samaria and Gaza.” (Jerusalem Post) Read more

Russian President Vladimir Putin held a working meeting with Chinese defense minister Li Shangfu in Moscow on Sunday, Tass news agency cited Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying.
Beijing had announced Li's visit to Moscow last week, saying he would meet defense officials, but made no mention of a meeting with Putin.

Lyrid meteor shower to peak on Earth Day weekend

Shooting stars will light up the sky on Saturday night as the first meteor shower in over 100 days peaks -- but cloudy weather could spoil the show for some.
The first meteor shower in over three months is about to grace the night sky, and it could be the best display of shooting stars until the dog days of summer are over.
Weekend stargazers will be treated to the annual Lyrids, a fitting conclusion to Earth Day, on the night of Saturday, April 22, into the early morning of Sunday, April 23. It will end a meteor shower drought that started over 100 days earlier once the Quadrantids concluded on Jan. 3.
"When compared to the normal low activity seen during the late winter and early spring nights, the nights around April 23 offer a nice bit of entertainment," the American Meteor Society (AMS) explained on its website. Read More

Innovative Program Teaches Public School Kids about Jesus, the Bible
|

Kori Pennypacker, the CEO of Bible2School, told CBN News, "Bible2School is a 40-year-old nonprofit organization and we equip parents, moms, dads, grandparents to teach the Bible to public school kids during their school day – that means typically over lunch and recess." Kids are bussed to churches or other locations during these periods to learn Bible lessons before heading back to their public school classroom. Remarkably, Pennypacker says this program is where a majority of the students learn about Jesus. "It's amazing because most of the kids we reach in the public schools have no church at home," she explained. "There's a very high percentage – 60 percent of our kids, over 60 percent of our kids – have no church home. So, we're teaching them about Jesus for the very first time, many times."
You might wonder how Bible2School can make this happen during the school day. "There is something called the Release Time Court Rulings, and this was from back in 1914 when the Bible actually used to be a reader in school," Pennypacker said. "Everybody had one. Think Little House in the Prairie. And then, around that time period, early 18- or 19-hundreds, they took the Bible out of school, but they had these release time rulings that said you can release kids from school, maybe one hour a day; different in different states, at different times. But you can release kids from school. They have to be offsite, they have to have parental permission, and it has to cost a taxpayer no money, so no tax dollars." That allows Bible2school to make a positive impact in the lives of around 1,800 kids in 35 schools across the state.
