UN called on to fire envoy for questioning Israel's right to defense

An open letter calling for the dismissal of Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur for Palestinian territories, was sent to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Tuerk on Tuesday.

The reason for the demand is recent comments made by Albanese on Twitter, in which she claimed that Israel can't claim its right to defend itself against "the people it oppresses/whose lands it colonizes."

The authors of the letter expressed "utter dismay and outrage at the abhorrent statements" made by Albanese, adding that it is "unfathomable that such a statement would ever be made by a UN representative." (Jerusalem Post) Read more

Iran sent weapons to strike Israel under guise of earthquake aid to Syria

Iran has used earthquake relief flights to bring weapons and military equipment into its strategic ally Syria, nine Syrian, Iranian, Israeli and Western sources said.

The sources told Reuters that the goal was to buttress Iran's defenses against Israel in Syria and to strengthen Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Reuters is the first to report this development.

After the Feb. 6 earthquake in northern Syria and Turkey, hundreds of flights from Iran began landing in Syria's Aleppo, Damascus and Latakia airports bringing supplies, and this went on for seven weeks, the sources said. More than 6,000 people died in all of Syria, according to the United Nations. (Jerusalem Post) Read more here.

U.S. tries to reassure Israel about security relationship after Pentagon leak: Officials

The Biden administration tried to reassure Israeli officials in recent days that Washington is committed to its security relationship with Israel after details contained in a trove of purported secret Pentagon documents leaked on social media appeared to suggest that the U.S. had spied on some of its closest allies, including Israel, two Israeli officials said.

Why it matters: The leak, which also included sensitive details from U.S.-Israeli consultations, could have major implications for the vast intelligence sharing between Israel and the U.S., especially if Israeli secrets are at risk of being shared due to any kind of security breach.

U.S. officials have acknowledged that at least some of the documents appear to be authentic intelligence assessments put together by the Pentagon, but officials have also cautioned that some of the information in documents also appears to “have been doctored.” The Justice Department has opened an investigation into the leak. 1. Protest leaders vow intensified civil disobedience if overhaul push restarts - Times of Israel

Leaders of the protest movement against the government’s judicial overhaul have threatened to deploy new forms of civil disobedience if lawmakers move to swiftly advance the legislation, highlighting rampant doubts around talks to reach compromise on the reform.

Organizers have continued to express heavy skepticism toward the negotiations between Yesh Atid and National Unity on one side and the ruling coalition on the other, under the auspices of President Isaac Herzog. They allege the talks are a ruse to quell the protest movement and advance the legislation quietly.

While large-scale rallies against the legislation have taken a breather over the Passover holiday, activity is set to ramp up once again now that Passover has ended, protest leaders say, with mass demonstrations around the country scheduled for Saturday night. (Read more)

2. Israel seeks US support for IDF buildup as expert predicts Iran strike - Jerusalem Post

A top defense official sought United States support to bolster IDF forces as a security expert on Thursday predicted that Israel might have to strike Iran within the year to halt its nuclear program.

“We held important meetings to promote significant projects focused on force buildup in the face of emerging security challenges – first and foremost, the Iranian nuclear program,” Defense Ministry Director-General Maj.-Gen. (ret.) Eyal Zamir said.

He spoke after a meeting with US Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Colin Kahl in Washington, which took place as Israel remains in danger of an immediate war on one or all of three borders – Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria – after rockets were launched during the last week against Israel from all three fronts. 3. Netanyahu: The greatest threat to the govt. comes from within - Israel National News

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned in an interview with Channel 14 News this evening (Thursday) that the greatest danger to the current right-wing government comes from within the government rather than from the opposition.

"Change takes time. The greatest danger to a right-wing government is being to the right of the right of the right. This always leads to the downfall of governments. Because then it is never [right-wing] enough," he said.

"They claim: You don't build enough? I doubled the construction. They claim: You made tactical withdrawals? We took steps n the settlements issue and on the Temple Mount," he added. (Read more)

4. Orthodox Jewish leaders accuse Lapid of sabotaging Israel, undermining gov’t - World Israel News

Senior American Orthodox Jewish leaders penned an open letter blasting Opposition Leader Yair Lapid, saying that the politician is attempting to undermine the Israeli government as he tours the U.S. and is hosted by American Jewish groups.

In a letter published on Tuesday addressing Lapid’s recent comments to the Jewish Federations of America, Am Echad co-chairs Shlomo Werdiger and Dr. Irving Lebovics wrote that the lawmaker is worsening the rift between diaspora Jewry and the State of Israel, as well as fanning the flames of delegitimization of Israel and antisemitism.

Werdiger and Lebovics expressed their “grave concerns” with Lapid’s remarks blaming Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the judicial overhaul legislation as the cause for tensions with the Biden administration, as well as Lapid’s characterization of the current government as racist and extremist.

“As an organization devoted to strengthening the relationship between Israel and Diaspora Jewry, we see these comments as sowing discord and delegitimizing not just the current Israeli government, but Israel itself in the eyes of the world, both Jewish and not,” the letter reads. (Read more)

5. Israel’s Army Reinforcing Iron Dome Air Defense System Nationwide - Algemeiner

i24 News – Amid heightened regional security tensions, Israel’s military is bolstering air defense systems across the country and adding additional batteries to the Iron Dome to ensure residents’ safety in the event of an attack.

Dozens of policemen and soldiers will also be deployed in Tel Aviv as the terror threat remains high, Kan public broadcaster reported, over a week after an Italian tourist was killed and several others were wounded after a terrorist rammed his car into them. On the same day, two sisters and their mother were also murdered in the West Bank.

Israel also came under rocket fire last week from armed groups in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, as Israeli forces have remained on high alert as Palestinian groups have called for more violence.

Earlier this week, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu banned Jewish worshipers from entering the Temple Mount – Jerusalem’s holiest site and referred to by Muslims as the Al Aqsa Mosque – until the end of Ramadan following recent clashes between Israelis and Palestinians there. 1. Kentucky, Tennessee leaders call for tighter gun control after mass shootings - Reuters

Kentucky and Tennessee political leaders on Tuesday called for tighter controls on guns, including tougher laws preventing people in crisis from accessing firearms, after two mass shootings killed 11 people in Louisville and Nashville.

Earlier on Tuesday, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee urged General Assembly members to find a compromise to bolster the state's so-called "red flag" laws, aimed at making it more difficult for people deemed to be a threat to the public or themselves from having access to firearms.

"I'm asking the legislature to bring forth thoughtful, practical measures to do that, to strengthen our laws, to separate those dangerous people from firearms, while at the same time preserving the constitutional rights of the people of this state," the Republican governor told reporters Tuesday morning.

Such legislation would supplement an existing law allowing courts to bar perpetrators of domestic abuse, sexual assault, and stalking from owning or possessing firearms. (Read more)

- Father God, how sad it is to hear of these deaths and how sad to hear that the solution voiced so much is to take away these firearms.  Yes, we join with the governor to call for reasonable background checks and perhaps other measures to keep weapons out of the hands of dangerous people; but we call on the Lord to reform our society and each person individually to bring a wave of healing, righteousness, and love that is missing in today's society.  We pray for the Gospel to spread so far and wide that individuals will turn to the Lord for the solution to their problems and emotional healing instead of turning to violence to themselves or others.  Lord, we pray that our right to possess and carry the weapons of our choice will not be infringed upon by any fear coming out of lawmakers.

2. Banks in ‘more precarious situation’ creating risks for global growth, IMF chief economist warns - CNBC

Interest rate rises have increased banks’ vulnerabilities — and their response presents a significant risk to global growth, the International Monetary Fund’s chief economist warned Tuesday.

“We are concerned about what we have seen in the banking sector, particularly in the U.S. but maybe also in other countries, might do to growth in 2023,” Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas told CNBC’s Joumanna Bercetche in Washington, D.C.

Central bank hikes have increased funding costs for banks, while lenders have also seen some losses in assets like long-term bonds.

“Banks are in a more precarious situation. They have healthy cushions, but it’s certainly going to lead them to be a little bit more prudent and maybe cut down lending somewhat,” Gourinchas said.

In one scenario, the IMF sees funding conditions for banks tightening further and squeezing lending, bringing its forecast of 2.8% global growth in 2023 down to 2.5%. (Read more)

- Dear Lord, we see how complicated and intertwined the financial situation in the world is.  We pray for You to bring about the stability necessary to promote a positive business atmosphere, a stop to inflation, and a lowering of interest rates.  We pray that Your people, who call on Your name, will consistently call on You for all they need in spite of what our leaders do to monetary and business policy in this country.  We call for replacement for all leaders who do not have the best in mind for the US, especially as it concerns banking.   We pray for our banks to be able to hold strong during this time of turmoil.

3. Pentagon leak traced to video game chat group users arguing over war in Ukraine - The Guardian

Analysis suggests top-secret documents were first shared on closed gamer chatrooms hosted by Discord

A damaging batch of documents leaked from the Pentagon appears to have been initially shared on the video game chat platform Discord in an effort to win an argument about the war in Ukraine, according to open-source intelligence analysts.

The bizarre provenance of the leak may seem unusual but it is far from the first time that a dispute between gamers has sparked an intelligence breach, with the overlapping communities causing problems for military and gaming platforms alike.

The existence of the leaked cache was exposed as documents showing estimated casualties in the Bakhmut theatre of battle began circulating on public social networks last week.

Two versions of those documents, one of which had been crudely digitally altered to understate Russian casualties and overstate Ukrainian ones, were passed around among observers of the war. One, with the correct figures, stemmed from a leak to 4chan, the chaotic image board best known for birthing the “alt right” movement.

At the same time, a second set of documents, including the edited image, were being passed around pro-Russian Telegram channels. (Read more)

- Even with the apprehension of a suspected leaker of these documents, we still have questions about the seemingly underground world of gamers and what they do.  Hopefully, this arrest will stop the use of this worldwide gaming community for release of vital information regarding our defense plans.  Dear Lord, we pray that what was released will not result in loss of life, although it looks like our standing in the world has suffered.  Father, we pray for better pastimes for our young people so their lives may be full in You.

4. ‘People Were Crying’ – Trump Reveals What Happened as Soon as He Entered Manhattan Courthouse During Last Week’s Arraignment (VIDEO) - The Gateway Pundit
President Trump sat down with Fox News host Tucker Carlson for his first interview since last week's arraignment. (Screengrab Image)

Trump said everybody who worked at the courthouse was professional and treated him well.

"When I went to the courthouse, which is also a prison in a sense – they signed me in – and I'll tell you, people were crying – people that work there, professionally work there that have no problems putting in murderers and they see everybody. It's a tough, tough place and they were crying. They were actually crying," Trump said. (Read more and watch the video by going here.)

We thank YOU for the courage of those elected officials fighting the evil dark side of politics. Please help President Trump fight for our Constitutional Rights, which follow GODS WORD, against this out of control government bent on holy destruction. AMEN & AMEN

5. New Docs Tie Biden to FBI Raid on Mar-a-Lago - Daily Signal

The Biden White House potentially played a role in the FBI raid of Mar-a-Lago, based on government emails obtained by the America First Legal, a conservative government watchdog group.

AFL obtained the information through a Freedom of Information Act request to the National Archives and Records Administration, and on Monday followed with additional records requests.

The documents from the records request show the FBI first obtained access to the records through a “special access request” from the Biden White House. Federal law authorizes “special access requests” to an incumbent president only when the records in question are needed for “the conduct of current business” of the White House, according to America First Legal.

“The evidence further suggests that Biden officials in the Executive Office of the President and the Department of Justice unlawfully abused their power and then lied about it to the American people,” Reed D. Rubinstein, director of oversight and investigations for America First Legal, said in a public statement.  “This government, it seems, acknowledges no limits on its power to harass, intimidate, and silence its political opponents.” (Read more)

 - Father God, it seems the Biden administration has not been honest with Congress, and has used their alleged authority to unlawfully raid Mar A Lago. This current administration ignores laws of its choosing and pursues whatever they want in very similar fashion to Nazi Germany. LORD please help America become respected again with morals and laws that reflect the Love of GOD, and Peace on Earth throughout our world. AMEN & AMEN

6. Leaked US Classified Document: Egypt Planned to Sell Russia 40,000 Rockets  - Jewish Press

According to one of the US leaked intelligence documents, President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi of Egypt in February was planning to produce 40,000 rockets to aid in Russia’s war effort in Ukraine, and hid his plan from his biggest ally, the US, the Washington Post reported Monday night.

According to the document, on February 17, El-Sisi also told his military officers he wanted to sell to Russia artillery rounds and gunpowder.

A spokesman for Egypt’s Foreign Ministry told reporters that “Egypt’s position from the beginning is based on noninvolvement in this crisis and committing to maintain equal distance with both sides, while affirming Egypt’s support to the UN charter and international law in the UN General Assembly resolutions,” adding, “We continue to urge both parties to cease hostilities and reach a political solution through negotiations.”

A source in the Biden administration admitted to the Washington Post that the US was not aware of such a plan being executed, although, according to the classified document, the CIA was aware of the plan. (Read more)

- LORD GOD, Thank YOU for our great country and all of our great allies. Egypt has reportedly been working a deal to supply Russia with tens of thousands of weapons to fight against the Ukraine. The USA has supported Egypt with billions and billions of dollars over many years only to see Egypt turn against Peace. Please expose any allies that side with our enemies and help us deal with them swiftly.  AMEN & AMEN

7. Texas to Place Ten Commandments in Classrooms - Todd Starnes

Texas is on track to put the Ten Commandments posted back in the classroom. Tim Barton, president of WallBuilders, told the “Todd Starnes Show” it’s a “great idea.”

Texas State Sen. Phil King (R) introduced a new bill in the Lone Star State to mandate the Ten Commandments be displayed in every public classroom.

Barton told host Todd Starnes this new legislation seems very logical.

"The Ten Commandments have been the basis of all morals for the Western civilization, for the Western world, really, since the inception of the Western world. And so to me, it seems very logical. There’s a lot of good historic and legal precedent for this as well. But certainly, from a commonsense perspective, this just makes sense to go back to telling kids basic notions of morality like don’t kill other people,” Barton told Starnes.

Barton also gave a short history lesson on the first textbooks printed in America, which contained over 40 questions about the Ten Commandments at the back of the book.

“It wasn’t until 1980 when an activist Supreme Court determined that, you know, that’s probably been enough of the Ten Commandments in classrooms. Let’s not do that anymore. The 1980s, when activist judges said no more. Well, fortunately, because of the Supreme Court last summer overturning some of the bad precedents, we are at a place where we once again can restore some of the basic moral values we used to teach kids, which includes once again posting copies of the Ten Commandments.” (Read more)

We cannot thank and praise You enough, Dear God and Father that Sen. Phil King has proposed this legislation; we pray it comes to fruition!  Show mercy on the citizens, children especially, of Texas. We know that should this legislation become law, Your word will be seen in each classroom and that it will accomplish all that You want. May Your restored word be reflected in changes in crime rates, healthier families, and a healthier society in TX.

We ask that these changes do not go unnoticed by other states; may the citizens of each state also demand the return of Your word, Your commands for how we live. We know obedience to the Commandments pleases You because it brings abundant life and peace to Your creation. Father, prevent any legal challenges from prospering that might try to stop Your words of life from being reinstated in Texas schools. We call this legislation forth, in Yeshua's name!

- … [it is] God, who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that do not exist. (Romans 4:17)   So will My word be which goes out of My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the purpose for which I sent it.  (Isaiah 55:11)

8. France’s Macron signals move away from US dominance as China humiliates the EU - LifeSite News

With Emmanuel Macron’s return from a lavish state visit to China, the latest Chinese diplomatic offensive becomes clear.

Following the three day visit, the French leader made a surprise statement to journalists on the plane home, in which he said that Europe should not follow the U.S. over Taiwan – and may abandon the dollar.

Rubio responds

Former Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio took to Twitter to explain the implications of this new position. Namely, why should the U.S. continue to bankroll NATO? Why, indeed, should it even concern itself with “European security” at all?

But, if our allies’ position—if, in fact, Macron speaks for all of Europe, and their position now is they’re not gonna pick sides between the U.S. and China over Taiwan—maybe we shouldn’t be picking sides either. Maybe we should basically say we’re gonna focus on Taiwan and the threats China poses, and you guys handle Ukraine and Europe.

This is how Rubio sees the ongoing war in Ukraine, in which U.S.-backed NATO created an army to combat Russia. That army has been destroyed, and the war aims of the U.S. in Ukraine look more distant than ever. Against expectations, Russia shows no sign of economic collapse, and unlike the West does not struggle to resupply either troops – or ammunition.

Macron’s call for European Home Rule has opened a window of opportunity for a U.S. exit from the war with Russia, allowing the neoconservative deep state to move on to a war with China. (Read more)

 - Lord God, we pray for the safety of Taiwan and its people and pray that the nation of China would be saved and transformed by Your truth, grace and mercy. Forgive France for choosing what is expedient over what is good and right in betraying its allies. May Senator Rubio’s words be heard and intelligently debated as the U.S. forms and revises policies concerning foreign affairs, particularly concerning Taiwan, China, Russia and the Ukraine at this time. Also, may we never abandon nor try to manipulate Your nation, Israel.

Bless You Abba, King of the Universe, that You are steadfast and unchanging, a covenant keeping ally for Your people. We look to You for all wisdom and guidance as we pray for our nation and all in authority as You command. These are surely insidious times; but we ask Your help and intervention as we navigate these uncharted waters, nationally and globally. Calm our minds and hearts with Your living words and promises as we hear various threats, especially of WW III and nuclear weapons. In Yeshua’s mighty name, Amen!

- "But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the Judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks better than the blood of Abel. "
(Hebrews 12:22-24)

Lies And The Makers Of Lies

The Daily Jot, Bill Wilson, April 13, 2023

The White House denied any foreknowledge of the FBI raid on President Trump’s home in August 2022, but new documents reveal that Joe Biden and his staff not only knew about the raid beforehand, but authorized it. According to documents obtained by America First Legal under the Freedom of Information Act, Biden’s White House authorized the raid on Trump’s residence via a “special access request” on behalf of the Department of Justice. Through a complicated daisy chain of referrals and reviews that gave the impression the FBI was not weaponized against a political opponent, America First Legal traced the authorization to the White House, which denied any connection to the raid.

When asked whether Biden or any White House officials were aware of the raid or had been briefed, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said responded, “No. The president was not briefed, and he was not aware…No, no one at the White House was given a heads-up. No, that did not happen.” She  said the president and White House officials learned about the raid “from public reports…We learned just like the American people did…The Justice Department conducts investigations independently” and that the White House leaves “any law enforcement matters to them…It would not be appropriate for us to comment on any ongoing investigations.” As it turns out, it appears she was lying repeatedly. Fed economists project recession this year, in potential blow to Biden
The economic outlook is always difficult to foretell with any confidence. Their projection was for “a mild recession starting later this year, with a recovery over the subsequent two years,” according to the minutes, released Wednesday. That would spark a jump in unemployment. They estimated the economy would fully recover by 2025.

The economic outlook is always difficult to foretell with any confidence, and staff members underscored their uncertainty at the meeting. If banks don’t pull back on lending as much as they expect, then the economy might not suffer as much. But if the financial system were to face even more stress, then the prognosis could be much worse.

“Historical recessions related to financial market problems tend to be more severe and persistent than average recessions,” staff noted, according to the minutes.

Central bank policymakers are considering whether another rate hike will be needed when they meet next in May, or if borrowing costs are high enough for now to bring inflation down over time.

Members of the Fed’s rate-setting committee said in March “that it was too early to assess with confidence the magnitude of the effect of a credit tightening on economic activity and inflation, and that it was important to continue to closely monitor developments,” according to the minutes. US Special Forces in Ukraine at embassy, official confirms, as Pentagon document leak probe heats up
White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby speaks to Fox News about leaked classified documents, says Special Forces 'are not fighting on the battlefield'

White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby has revealed to Fox News on Wednesday that there is a "small U.S. military presence" at the American embassy in Ukraine.

Kirby was asked about leaked Pentagon documents suggesting there are U.S. Special Forces operating inside the war-torn country.

"I won't talk to the specifics of numbers and that kind of thing. But to get to your exact question, there is a small U.S. military presence at the embassy in conjunction with the Defense Attachés office to help us work on accountability of the material that is going in and out of Ukraine," Kirby said, referencing the weapons and other support the U.S. has been sending to Kyiv. "So they're attached to that embassy and to that the defense attache."

Kirby, who was speaking on the sidelines of President Biden’s trip to Northern Ireland, added that those troops "are not fighting on the battlefield." In addition, Fox News is told that the U.S. forces in Kyiv also provide security services.  (Read more)

Israel must prepare for war with Iran without US help, former NSA chief says
Former national security adviser Yaakov Amidror said Thursday that war with Iran is increasingly likely and Israel needs to gear up to attack without US assistance.

“We need to prepare for war. It’s possible that we will reach a point where we have to attack Iran even without American assistance,” Amidror, a hawkish former general who served as Nation Security Council chief under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in 2011-2013, said in an interview with Radio 103 FM.

Amidror was discussing a flareup over the Passover holiday that saw rockets fired at Israel from Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria by groups largely seen as Iranian proxies. (Times of Israel)

Australia’s most powerful cyclone in 8 years to cross coast

CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — A tropical cyclone nearing Australia is forecast to be the most powerful storm in eight years to hit the country, bringing wind gusts of up to 315 kilometers (196 miles) per hour as it crosses the northwest coast, meteorologists said Thursday.

Cyclones are common along the sparsely populated Pilbara coast of Western Australia state and fatalities are rare, but authorities fear that Cyclone Ilsa’s extraordinary wind speeds could take some in its path by surprise.

Ilsa reached the highest Category 5 intensity Thursday over the Indian Ocean and is expected to maintain that destructive level as it crosses the Pilbara coast by early Friday, Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology said.

Category 5 cyclones have mean wind speeds exceeding 200 kph (124 mph) with gusts exceeding 280 kph (174 mph). They typically cause widespread destruction, the bureau said.

The last Category 5 storm to cross the Australian coast was Cyclone Marcia in 2015. Marcia caused hundreds of millions of dollars in damage in the east coast state of Queensland. Read More

'His Only Son' Soars to Box Office Total of $11M on Easter Weekend
For the second weekend in a row, Angel Studios' first theatrical release has been projected to land in the top tier at the weekend box office. Movie audiences across the country have given their approval to His Only Son, the faith-based major motion picture created with a production budget of just $250,000. Current projections point to the film ending a strong Easter weekend showing in 5th or 6th place with $11,044,046.84 in the cumulative box office. Described as "biblically accurate" and "authentic," the movie was released in theaters on March 31 by Angel Studios, the streaming platform behind the most successful faith-based crowd-funded show of all time, The Chosen.

CBN News reported last month, the movie became the first theatrical film to crowdfund for marketing funds in order to pay for distribution and advertising expenses. "HIS ONLY SON is the 'little indie that could'— a film made on a tiny budget by a director who went to film school on the G.I. Bill based on a story people have wrestled with for untold centuries. Our investors believed in the project and crowdfunded the P&A so the word could get out. This film was up against big studio films with serious marketing budgets, and yet, this film continues to turn in incredible numbers," said Jared Geesey, senior vice president of Global Distribution at Angel Studios. His Only Son is an original biblical drama about one of the most heart-wrenching passages in the Bible when God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac on the mountain of Moriah. (CBN) Read More

DOJ to ask Supreme Court to put abortion pill limits on hold
Bottles of abortion pills mifepristone, left, and misoprostol, right,
at a clinic in Des Moines, Iowa, Sept. 22, 2010.

A federal appeals court ruled that the abortion pill mifepristone can still be used for now but restored restrictions on the drug in a decision that the Justice Department said Thursday it would swiftly challenge at the Supreme Court.

At stake in an accelerating legal battle that began in Texas is nationwide access to the most common method of abortion in the U.S., less than a year after the reversal of Roe v. Wade prompted more than a dozen states to effectively ban abortion outright.

In a ruling late Wednesday, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans temporarily narrowed a ruling by a lower court judge in Texas that had completely blocked the Food and Drug Administration’s approval of mifepristone. But a divided three-judge panel still reduced the period of pregnancy when the drug can be taken and said it could not be dispensed by mail.

The ruling preventing the pill from being sent by mail amounts to another significant constraint of abortion access and was cheered by opponents of the drug. The Justice Department said it would ask the U.S. Supreme Court for an emergency order to put any action on hold.

“We are going to continue to fight in the courts, we believe the law is on our side, and we will prevail,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Thursday, speaking from Dublin during a visit by President Joe Biden. (Read more)
