Senate Republicans Block Legislation to Create Jan. 6 Commission
Senate Republicans on Friday blocked advancing a House-passed bill that would form a 9/11-style commission to investigate the Jan. 6 Capitol breach. Senators voted 54-35 on the measure, falling short of the 60-vote threshold to avoid a filibuster.

Republican Sens. Mitt Romney (Utah), Ben Sasse (Neb.), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Susan Collins (Maine), Bill Cassidy (La.), and Rob Portman (Ohio) joined all Democrats in voting on the measure. Other than Portman, the six
GOP senators all voted to convict former President Donald Trump during his second impeachment trial. Republican Sens. Pat Toomey (Pa.) and Richard Burr (N.C.), who voted to convict Trump during the trial, did not cast votes in favor of the Jan. 6 commission.

The vote came just a day after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), on the Senate floor, urged his caucus not to support the legislation and suggested it was merely a partisan effort from Democrats. McConnell, in his speech, highlighted that there are a number of investigations into the Jan. 6 incident that is already underway, including one by the Department of Justice that has resulted in more than 400 arrests. Legislative committees are also holding hearings and are providing recommendations to prevent a future Capitol breach. (Epoch Times)  Read more.

- Lord God, we thank You that these Republican senators have drawn a line in the sand against forming this new -- and another -- Commission to examine the events that took place on January 6th on Capitol Hill. Enough is enough, dear Lord! We now bind all forms of retaliation against
each one, and we pray for their safety in Jesus' name, amen and amen,

- "This far and no further, and here shall your proud waves be stopped!" (Job 38:11)
Schumer to Force Senate Vote on Sweeping Election Reform Bill

The Senate will vote on a bill that would dramatically change how elections are run next month, the body’s top Democrat said Friday. S. 1, also known as the For the People Act, will be voted on during the last full week in June, Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) told Democratic colleagues in a memorandum. The act would federalize components of the election system, eliminating nearly all qualifications such as photo identification. It would also require states to implement a system of automatic voter registration and to allow same-day registration on any day voting is allowed.

Critics have promised to bring a flood of lawsuits if it’s passed by the Senate and signed into law by President Joe Biden.

“In my state in Oklahoma, we have great voting engagement. We want to make it easy to vote and hard to cheat. S1 takes away a state’s ability to hold people accountable for cheating,” Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.) told colleagues on the Senate floor this month. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) has described the bill as “a massive federal takeover of elections.”

The Senate is currently divided in half, with 50 Republicans and 50 Democrats or nominal independents who regularly vote with Democrats. Passing a bill requires 60 votes. (Epoch Times) Read more.

- Father God, in a recent interview, Senator Ted Cruz has said that, if this bill passes in its present form, we will see the loss of our democracy. Lord God, we ask that You will strengthen the hands of the intercessors who are now not only holding the defeat of S.1 in prayer, but also taking action and calling our legislators to lobby for its defeat. Lord God, let us not become weary in well-doing for, in due time, we will see a victory, if we faint not. In Your Name we ask this prayer, amen and amen.

Vet motorcycle rally granted new staging ground after Pentagon denial

American Veterans (AMVETS), the group behind the annual Rolling to Remember motorcycle rally, announced a new venue on Wednesday to stage their May 30 event this year after the Department of Defense denied them a permit to use the Pentagon parking lot.

Rather than using the Pentagon parking lot, as the group has done for years, the Rolling to Remember will stage at the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium about five miles away. The group sought to stage the rally at RFK Stadium after the Pentagon parking lot fell through. Until the group received approval to stage at RFK Stadium it also planned to stage on the National Mall in the streets of Washington D.C.

“The 2021 Rolling to Remember Demonstration Ride will pre-stage in Parking Lot 8 at RFK Stadium on May 30 before riding to and around the National Mall,” AMVETS said in an emailed statement. “AMVETS, which is organizing the massive pro-veterans Memorial Day Weekend demonstration, had previously announced the expected 50,000 to 100,000 motorcycles would stage in the streets of downtown Washington. That changed today when Mayor Muriel Bowser on May 10 granted RFK Stadium permission to rent the parking lot to AMVETS for this 1st Amendment event.”

Rolling to Remember, which was previously known as Rolling Thunder, has held the motorycle rally for more than 30 years. The event is organized around Memorial Day and aims to raise awareness of the more than 80,000 U.S. service members being held as prisoners of war (POWs) or who remain missing in action (MIA). The event also aims to raise awareness about the mental health crisis that continues to affect veterans and leads to more than 20 veteran suicides a day on average. - Father God, we thank You for these brave men and women, all veterans who have served our nation in days past to preserve our freedom. We thank You for their tenacity in continuing to petition the authorities until they were granted permission to honor the fallen, as they have always done, on this Memorial Day. We ask for journeying mercies over this weekend as all are now making their way here to Washington, D.C. from across our land. Thank You, O Lord, for each one. We stand with them in unity to keep the torch of freedom alive and aflame in our nation on this Memorial Day. Amen and amen.

- ". . . proclaim liberty throughout all the land to all its inhabitants." (Leviticus 25:10)

CHPP Welcomes You to Join Us Every Week in One Hour of Repentance

Dear Saints,

A lifestyle of REPENTANCE is so close to the heart of God.

Indeed, He commands us to  "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!" Matthew 3:2

How, then, can we approach His Throne of GRACE, in repentance?

We invite you to join us every week on Sunday evening, as we explore this vital topic together. We present a different prayer focus each week, leading us into repentance, so that we might approach His Throne of Grace in repentance, presenting ourselves to Him as a pure and a spotless Bride, without spot or wrinkle. (Ephesians 5:27)

Praying together, we desire to fulfill the mandate of Psalm 139:

" Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting." Psalm 139:24

You can join us, any Sunday evening, at 10:00 p.m. EST by calling:

712-770-5350
Access Code: 150411#

WELCOME!

". . . and if My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

"Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayer offered in this place."
(2 Chronicles 7:14,15)
