How Will You Honor Memorial Day?
|
|
Yep, Memorial Day is almost here: the semi-official start of summer with a three-day weekend thrown in. So much to do . . .
Now, there’s nothing wrong with relaxing with friends and families and celebrating the arrival of summer. But I want to challenge you and your family to find ways to pay homage to those who have given their lives for the sake of our country and our freedoms. And I have some suggestions for you.
But first, a little context. Since the Revolutionary War, more than 1.3 million Americans have died during our nation’s armed conflicts. More than half of those were casualties on both sides of the Civil War. If you can imagine, more than two percent of the American population perished during that savage conflict—that would be like 7.7 million Americans dying today.
It was after that great conflagration that Americans, primarily in the northern states, chose a day to honor the war dead: May 30th, 1868, was the first Decoration Day, as it was called because citizens were asked to decorate the graves of the fallen. After World War I, the day became a time for remembering all war dead, not just those of the Civil War. It wasn’t until 1968 that Congress moved the date from May 30 to the last Monday in May. And in 1971, Memorial Day officially became a federal holiday.
So, what can we do to remember and show our gratitude?
First, fly the flag. At home and in your town. You might want to check over at your local town hall and ask if the flag will be displayed properly on Monday: Flown at half-mast until noon. As the USMemorialDay.org website puts it, “The half-staff position remembers the more than one million men and women who gave their lives in service of their country. At noon, their memory is raised by the living, who resolve not to let their sacrifice be in vain, but to rise up in their stead and continue the fight for liberty and justice for all.”
Second, attend your local Memorial Day parade. Don’t be shy: Don your patriotic gear and stand with your fellow citizens.
Third, visit a national cemetery and decorate graves. Or simply walk the grounds quietly and pray.
Fourth, you might attend a memorial service. Many Veterans of Foreign War posts hold special services to honor the dead.
Fifth, take your children to a military museum or battlefield. Teach them about the sacrifices made by so many. Instill in them a respect for the men and women who to this day volunteer to serve their country in the armed forces—knowing they may be called on to make the ultimate sacrifice.
Sixth, observe the National Moment of Remembrance at 3:00PM on Monday. Since 2000, Americans have been asked to “voluntarily and informally observe in their own way a Moment of Remembrance and respect, pausing from whatever they are doing for a moment of silence or listening to Taps.”
Finally, consider donating to organizations that help our nation’s veterans and families. And get your church to reach out to military families in your area.
So yes. Enjoy your long weekend. But find a way to honor those who, through their sacrifice, made this weekend possible.

- Father God, we ask that You will place in the heart of every American this weekend the significance of Memorial Day. Lord God, in this day of remembrance, we ask that You would comfort the hearts of those who have lost loved ones in the line of duty, protecting our own freedom and liberty.
Father God, today we also lift up all those men who were exposed to Agent Orange during the Vietnam war. We ask that You would pour out an extra measure of grace, mercy, blessing and healing upon these brave warriors as they now deal with the impact that that chemical has had upon their systems. Help them, O Lord, we pray.

1. MK Mickey Levy: 'Agreements with Yamina possible in less than 24 hours' - Israel National News
MK Mickey Levy (Yesh Atid) on Thursday said that his party can sign coalition deal with the right-wing Yamina party "within 24 hours," if Yamina is willing to join the government.
In an interview with 103 FM Radio, Levy said: "The decision of Yesh Atid, of Yair Lapid, is to turn over every stone and make every effort to form a sane, realistic, government. Whoever does not lend a hand for this process, due to other considerations, is simply dragging us to fifth elections."
"We have not lost any hope, everything is ready. All that's left is Yamina, and in light of what's happened in recent days, I'm very optimistic. [Yamina chair MK] Naftali Bennett knows Yair Lapid's phone number, he's invited to call him. We can finish it all within 24 hours."
When asked why he is so optimistic when Bennett has expressed reluctance to join a coalition, Levy said: "We are not holding any celebrations, we want to come to agreements. We have used the past days to come to agreements with our other potential partners." (Read more)

2. Gantz demands Lapid give him right to veto any judicial reform - Israel National News
Blue and White chairman Benny Gantz has placed a new demand on Yesh Atid chairman Yair Lapid in coalition negotiations. Gantz is demanding the right to veto any change or reform in the judicial system, in in the preliminary stage, Channel 13 News reported.
The report states that Gantz's demand comes against the background of the understanding that the justice portfolio in the "Change Bloc" government, if established, will be granted to the right-wing bloc, most likely to Gideon Sa'ar. Sa'ar is indeed planning reforms in the justice system, and his New Hope party said tonight that the condition set by Gantz is unfamiliar to them and that they oppose it.
It was also reported that Yamina chairman Naftali Bennett said in closed conversations tonight that all five members of his party, except for Amichai Chikli, support his decision and stand behind him. (Read more)

3. UN Rights Council calls for permanent commission to monitor Israel’s treatment of Palestinians - World Israel News
The top U.N. human rights body on Thursday passed a resolution aimed to intensify scrutiny of Israel’s treatment of Palestinians, after the U.N. rights chief said Israeli forces may have committed war crimes and faulted the militant group Hamas for violations of international law in their 11-day war this month.
The 24-9 vote, with 14 abstentions, capped a special Human Rights Council session on the rights situation faced by Palestinians. The session and the resolution were arranged by Organization of Islamic Cooperation countries, which have strongly supported Palestinians in their struggles with Israel.
The resolution, which was denounced by Israel, calls for the creation of a permanent “Commission of Inquiry” — the most potent tool at the council’s disposal — to monitor and report on rights violations in Israel, Gaza and the West Bank. It would be the first such COI with an “ongoing” mandate.
The commission is also to investigate “all underlying root causes of recurrent tensions, instability and protraction of conflict” including discrimination and repression, according to the text. Amid signs that the resolution would pass, its authors added more teeth to its language with a late revision on Wednesday. (Read more)

4. Israel’s Reprimands French Envoy After FM’s ‘Apartheid’ Comments - Algemeiner
i24 News – Israel’s Foreign Ministry on Thursday summoned France’s Ambassador to Israel Eric Danon to address comments made by French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian regarding the risk of “long-lasting apartheid” in the Jewish state.
“Israel is a democratic, law-abiding country, and I strongly protest any attempt to challenge this fact and the foundations of the State of Israel,” Foreign Minister Ashkenazi said, addressing Le Drian’s allegation that, unless a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is achieved soon, the Jewish state was on a slippery slope towards “apartheid.”
Israel strongly rejected recent reports by the Israeli B’Tselem rights group, as well as by the Human Rights Watch (HRW) organization, both of which accused Israel of subjecting Palestinians to a multi-tiered regime of separation and discrimination, not unlike the racist system of governance that held sway in South Africa between 1948 and 1991.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a strongly worded rebuke to Le Drian. (Read more)

5. Hamas Gaza chief threatens new, heavier onslaught if Israel ‘violates’ Al-Aqsa - Times of Israel
The Palestinian terrorist group Hamas on Wednesday threatened to renew intense fighting against Israel if the Jewish state “violates” the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount, and downplayed damage to its military infrastructure following the 11-day conflict in the Gaza Strip.
“What has happened is but a drill for what will come if Israel violates the Al-Aqsa Mosque,” the terror group’s Gaza leader, Yahya Sinwar, said on Wednesday, days after a ceasefire entered effect. “The occupation must know — Al-Aqsa has men who will defend it.”
Violent clashes between Palestinian worshipers and Israeli police at the Jerusalem holy site in early May preceded the Hamas rocket barrage on Israeli cities and towns that began the Israel-Hamas conflict.
The Hamas leader also said he would welcome Israel killing him in a targeted strike. (Read more)

1. Republicans call for Fauci’s termination over shifting position on Wuhan lab funding – CNBC
Dr. Anthony Fauci is facing increasing calls from Republican lawmakers for his termination over what they say is a shift in his position on whether the U.S. government funded research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
Fauci, the chief medical advisor to the White House, told lawmakers Tuesday that the National Institutes of Health funded the Wuhan Institute of Virology through the nonprofit EcoHealth Alliance with $600,000 over a period of five years. Funding to the nonprofit was eventually halted by the NIH.
He denied that the funding was specifically used for so-called gain of function research, which is altering a virus to make it either more transmissible or deadly to better predict new pathogens and ways to fight them.
On Wednesday during a Senate hearing, Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., further questioned Fauci’s faith in the Wuhan lab’s scientists. “How do you know they didn’t lie to you and use the money for gain of function research anyway?” Kennedy asked Fauci.
Fauci said there was no way to guarantee that the scientists and grantees did not lie. “You never know,” he said. (Read more)

2. Biden Unveils $6 Trillion Budget that will Raise Federal Spending to Highest Post WW 2 Level – Zerohedge
US stock futures soared Thursday morning as President Biden unveiled his first federal budget, which calls for the government to spend $6 trillion in the 2022 fiscal year, with total annual spending set to increase to $8.2 trillion by 2031.
Stocks initially kneejerked higher, then retreated on the headlines reporting the proposed budget, which Biden can pass through the Senate using budget rules that allow Dems to circumvent the filibuster. According to the NYT, it calls for the highest sustained levels of federal spending since World War II.
Treasury yields also climbed on the news, which raised expectations for more Treasury supply.
According to the NYT, the increase in federal spending, which follows both the COVID stimulus and Biden's "Build Back Better" infrastructure plans, will be driven by "Biden’s two-part agenda to upgrade the nation’s infrastructure and substantially expand the social safety net, contained in his American Jobs Plan and American Families Plan, along with other planned increases in discretionary spending."
With Biden expected to raise taxes and increase spending on tax enforcement, the annual deficits in Biden's budget projections wouldn't start to wane until the 2030s. Meanwhile, Biden's "ambitions to wield government power to help more Americans attain the comforts of a middle-class life and to lift U.S. industry to better compete globally in an economy the administration believes will be dominated by a race to reduce energy emissions and combat climate change." 3. Senate Republicans $928 Billion Infrastructure Offer – The Hill
Senate Republicans on Thursday unveiled a $928 billion infrastructure proposal that includes $506 billion for roads, bridges and major projects and $98 billion for public transit systems.
The latest offer is substantially more than the $568 billion infrastructure framework the group led by Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) introduced in April, but it’s still far short of the $1.7 trillion counteroffer that White House officials came back with last week.
The one-page summary released by Republicans doesn’t include any new detail on how Republicans would pay for the plan, which remains a major sticking point with the White House, which wants to raise corporate tax rates from 21 percent to 28 percent, undoing a core part of former President Trump's tax-cut bill from 2017. 4. Biden Campaign Official Blasted After Telling Jews to Take Off Yarmulkes, Signs of Judaism – Israel365 News
As a wave of antisemitic attacks against Jews across America by Hamas supporters, a top official of president Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign tweeted that Jews should remove items that identify them publicly as Jews. This includes kippot (yarmulkes) or Stars of David if they are afraid of those who are threatening them.
Aaron Keyak, whose Twitter and LinkedIn bio claims that he “led Jewish engagement for the Biden-Harris campaign and transition,” tweeted, “It pains me to say this, but if you fear for your physical safety take off your kippah and hide your magen david. Obviously, if you can, ask your rabbi first.”
He also said that: “It’s important that those who wear kippot don’t feel more pressure to put our lives in unnecessary actual danger — especially when actions are attempting to be grounded in halacha. Given the rise in Jew-hatred and antisemitic attacks, we must stand with all Jews.”
Following the tweet, conservative pundit Ben Shapiro took to the airwaves on his show explaining why he wears a kippah and how if anyone has a problem with it can “bleep off!”
“I wear a yarmulke because I am proudly a descendant of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and Moses and David. I am of their people” he said on the Ben Shapiro show. (Read more)

5. Report: US State Dept Admits Hamas May use “Humanitarian Funds” For Buying Rockets Against Israel – Israel365 news

As Secretary of State Anthony Blinken meets with Netanyahu this week to discuss the recent hostilities between Gaza and Israel, a White House report cited a senior State Department official as admitting that the humanitarian aid President Biden pledged to help rebuild Gaza might end up being usurped by Hamas for use in terrorism and rockets targeting Israel. The unnamed official was asked in a press briefing: “How can the U.S. guarantee aid to Gaza won’t be diverted toward replenishing the Hamas arsenal?”
“We’re going to be working in partnership with the United Nations and the Palestinian Authority to kind of channel aid there in a manner that does its best to go to the people of Gaza,” the official said, according to a White House transcript. “I’m also sure that the government of Egypt will have some role in that.”
“As we’ve seen in life, as we all know in life, there are no guarantees, but we’re going to do everything that we can to ensure that this assistance reaches the people who need it the most,” the official added. (Read more)

6. John Hopkins Prof: Half of Americans have Natural Immunity: Dismissing it is “Biggest Failure of Medical Leadership” – Zerohedge
A professor with the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine has said that there is a general dismissal of the fact that more than half of all Americans have developed natural immunity to the coronavirus and that it constitutes “one of the biggest failures of our current medical leadership.”
Dr. Marty Makary made the comments during a recent interview, noting that “natural immunity works” and it is wrong to vilify those who don’t want the vaccine because they have already recovered from the virus.
Makary criticised “the most slow, reactionary, political CDC in American history” for not clearly communicating the scientific facts about natural immunity
compared to the kind of immunity developed through vaccines.
“There is more data on natural immunity than there is on vaccinated immunity, because natural immunity has been around longer,” Makary emphasised.
“We are not seeing reinfections, and when they do happen, they’re rare. Their symptoms are mild or are asymptomatic,”
the professor added.
“Please, ignore the CDC guidance,”
he urged, adding “Live a normal life, unless you are unvaccinated and did not have the infection, in which case you need to be careful.”
“We’ve got to start respecting people who choose not to get the vaccine instead of demonizing them,”

7. America’s Frontline Doctors Files Motion for Temporary Restraining Order Against Use of COVID Vaccine in Children – America’s Frontline Doctors
America's Frontline Doctors (AFLDS) today filed a motion in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama requesting a temporary restraining order against the emergency use authorization (EUA) permitting using the COVID-19 vaccines in children under the age of 16, and that no further expansion of the EUAs to children under the age of 16 be granted prior to the resolution of these issues at trial.
The case will challenge the EUAs for the injections on several counts, based on the law and scientific evidence that the EUAs should never have been granted, the EUAs should be revoked immediately, the injections are dangerous biological agents that have the potential to cause substantially greater harm than the COVID-19 disease itself, and that numerous laws have been broken in the process of granting these EUAs and foisting these injections on the American people.
AFLDS Founder Dr. Simone Gold spoke about the reasons for filing the motion: "We doctors are pro-vaccine, but this is not a vaccine," she said. "This is an experimental biological agent whose harms are well-documented (although suppressed and censored) and growing rapidly, and we will not support using America’s children as guinea pigs."
She continued: "We insist that the EUA not be relinquished prematurely; certainly not before trials are complete - October 31, 2022 for Moderna and April 27, 2023 for Pfizer. We are shocked at the mere discussion of this, and will not be silent while Americans are used as guinea pigs for a virus with survivability of 99.8% globally and 99.97% under age 70.

8. Over 10,000 Covid 19 Infections Recorded in Americans who received a Vaccine – The Epoch Times
More than 10,000 COVID-19 infections among people who are fully vaccinated against the disease have been reported to a U.S. health agency by states.
Through April 30, 10,262 so-called breakthrough infections were reported from 46 U.S. states and territories to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Breakthrough cases refer to cases appearing two or more weeks after a person’s final shot. That’s primarily the second Pfizer or Moderna dose, but can be the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Of the cases, more than six in 10 occurred in females, with the median patient age being 58, according to a new report from the CDC, which stopped counting breakthrough infections as of May 1, except for those that cause hospitalization or death.
Approximately 10 percent of the patients required hospital care, and 160, or about 1.5 percent, died. (Read more)

9. IRS Sends out New Batch of $1,400 Stimulus Checks – The Epoch Times
Federal authorities announced Wednesday that a new round of $1,400 stimulus checks have been sent out, bringing the total figure disbursed to around $391 billion.
The Department of the Treasury, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and the Bureau of the Fiscal Service jointly announced that the most recent tranche of payments amounts to more than 1.8 million checks worth over $3.5 billion. Over 900,000 payments were made as direct deposit, while the remainder was sent out as paper checks.
About half the checks were “supplemental” or “plus-up” payments, going to people who earlier received payments based on their 2019 tax returns but after filing a 2020 return are eligible to receive more money.
The $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan authorizes individuals earning less than $75,000 per year—and married joint filers making less than $150,000—to receive the full $1,400 payment. The checks then ramp down to zero for individuals earning $80,000 or above and for joint filers making $160,000 or more.
The IRS will continue to send stimulus checks out to people on a weekly basis to eligible recipients for whom the agency did not have information to issue a payment but who recently filed a tax return. (Read more)

10. US Embassies Around the World Fly Black Lives Matter Flags with Biden’s Backing – Lifesite news
Biden administration Secretary of State Anthony Blinken encouraged US embassies to hang the flag of the pro-LGBT Black Lives Matter movement yesterday. Several embassies did just that.
American embassies around the world flew flags with the words “Black Lives Matter” yesterday after being encouraged to do so by the Biden administration.
According to a leaked memo published by Human Events News on Monday, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken urged embassies to push Black Lives Matter messaging and authorized them to “hang BLM flags” “for calendar year 2021.”
“As outlined below, Chiefs of Mission may decide to hang BLM flags, as appropriate and depending on local context. This cable constitutes a blanket written authorization for calendar year 2021 from the Under Secretary for Management (M) to display the BLM flag on the external-facing flagpole to any Chiefs of Mission,” the memo read.

This country is experiencing years of prolonged derision by loud bullies who label everyone who disagrees with them with terrible accusations. Ignoring any semblance of constructive civil conversation, they have weaponized sex, race, and politics, using them as justification to foment violence, defy the civil protections of law, and censure the speech of those who do not share their views. Senate passes bill requiring the Biden administration to declassify intelligence on COVID-19 origins

The Senate approved a bill that would require the Biden administration and the director of national intelligence to declassify intelligence on the origins of COVID-19 by unanimous consent Wednesday evening.
"The American people deserve to know about the origins of COVID-19," Missouri Republican Sen. Josh Hawley said on the Senate floor before the bill passed. "They deserve to know how this terrible pandemic that has ravaged the globe and our country, how it got started, and what China’s role was in starting it."
He said that voters deserved to see the evidence and judge for themselves, rather than different speculation from various administration officials on where the virus may have come from.
"Whether it’s weighing in on issues of health care, national security, COVID-19, who disagrees with transparency?" asked Indiana Republican Sen. Mike Braun. "The sunshine reveals everything." (Fox News) Read more.

What Is the Filibuster and How Does It Work?
If you've seen the movie Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, you have seen a classic example of a traditional filibuster. A filibuster is any tactic that prevents a measure from being voted on, such as a bill or a confirmation vote on a presidential appointment.
A filibuster only applies to the Senate. The Constitution allows each chamber to determine its own rules, and rules in the House are different, with specific time limits during debates.
The Senate generally has no limit on the length of time a senator can speak. In the Senate, there is no provision in the rules for a simple majority to make a motion to end debate and bring a vote. Thus, one senator who opposes a measure can hold up the vote by speaking as long as he is physically able to stand and speak, as Mr. Smith did in the movie.

2 Million People Under Threat of Congo Volcano Eruption, Thousands Evacuate

Millions of people in Congo are facing the threat of a volcanic eruption by Mount Nyiragongo, prompting thousands to flee a city.
Lt. Gen Constat Ndima Kongba, the military governor of Congo's North Kivu province, ordered the evacuations of 10 of the 18 neighborhoods in Goma, a city with two million people.
Mount Nyiragongo erupted near Goma last week, but the city was not affected. But now Kongba said a new eruption could happen at any moment, as activity was reported near the city and Lake Kivu.
Residents were advised to carry very little and told not to return to their homes until advised by authorities. Officials said that vehicles will be provided to help the evacuation.
Many people were seen heading northwest toward the town of Sake and east toward Rwanda. International organizations such as the U.N. mission in Congo had on Wednesday already begun evacuating their staff. Read More

Ohio Town Passes Ordinance Banning Abortions within City Limits

The Lebanon City Council unanimously passed the resolution to make the community of 20,000 a "sanctuary city for the unborn," the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
"We are clearly saying in our community we do not think it is in our best interest to open a clinic or a hospital that does abortions," said Mayor Amy Brewer. "We are elected to make decisions based on what's good for our community today."
The ordinance, which took effect immediately, was supported by six of the seven city council members. Councilwoman Krista Wyatt opposed the measure, then resigned before the meeting.
Within the city limits of Lebanon, it is illegal to provide an abortion, assist with an abortion, offer money or transportation to an abortion, and give instructions for an abortion.
Ohio Right to Life praised Lebanon's vote, saying more cities and states should follow suit. The objective is to make abortion "not just illegal but unthinkable across our great state," said spokeswoman Allie Frazier. (Breaking Christian News) Read more.
