Israel votes for UNGA resolution demanding Russia ends Ukraine war

Israel was among 140 countries supporting a UN General Assembly resolution on Thursday demanding an end to Russia’s war against Ukraine and calling for civilian protection.

It was also among over 70 countries to endorse the text, the second such resolution approved by the GA since the start of the war on February 24. Israel also supported and helped sponsor that first text, which was approved with 141 votes.

Five countries voted against – Russia, Syria, North Korea, Eritrea and Belarus – and 38 countries abstained. (Jerusalem Post) Read more here.

Ketanji Brown Jackson Refuses to Define “Woman”
President Biden’s Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson refused to define the word “woman” on the second day of her confirmation hearings before the U.S. Senate’s Judiciary Committee.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., pressed Jackson on transgender issues Tuesday night…. “Can you provide a definition for the word ‘woman?’” the senator asked.

“Can I provide a definition? No,” Jackson responded. “I can’t.”

“You can’t?” Blackburn asked.

“Not in this context, I’m not a biologist,” the judge replied.

“Do you believe the meaning of the word woman is so unclear and controversial that you can’t give me a definition?” Blackburn pressed.

“Senator, in my work as a judge, what I do is I address disputes. If there’s a dispute about a definition, people make arguments, and I look at the law, and I decide,” Jackson said.

Blackburn argued that “the fact that you can’t give me a straight answer about something as fundamental as what a woman is underscores the dangers of the kind of progressive education that we are hearing about….” (Fox News) Reported by Intercessors for America. To read more, go here.

- Father, we pray that You would raise up leaders in our country who recognize and respect biology. You made us unchangeably male and female, God, and we pray that our country would come to realize that.

- "Male and female He created them." (Genesis 5:2)

California Bill Would Make Abortions Free
As Roe v. Wade appears to be on shaky ground, states are rushing to create legislation that either upholds life or promotes killing it. California has doubled down with not only legislation to provide free abortions but also help pay expenses of women to travel to California for abortions.
Lawmakers are staying busy to make sure abortion on demand is the law of state as the United States Supreme Court revisits Roe v. Wade, including in California where women will be able to abort their unborn child for free.

“With this legislation, we’ll help ensure equitable, affordable access to abortion services so that out-of-pocket costs don’t stand in the way of receiving care,” California Governor Gavin Newsom said in a statement.

Senate Bill 245, named the Abortion Accessibility Act, prohibits insurance companies from charging a deductible, co-pay, or deductible for the procedure, which in California is available until “fetus viability.”

"Eliminating out-of-pocket costs for abortion for people with private insurance is a major step in California’s commitment to being a Reproductive Freedom state — making abortion services more accessible and affordable for all people in California,” Jodi Hicks, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California, said in a statement about the law, which go into effect in 2023.

Another Democrat California lawmaker, Sen. Nancy Skinner, proposed a bill last week that would create a fund to help women pay the expenses of traveling to California to abort their child. (IFA)

- Father, it grieves us to see human life not valued. As your word says in Proverbs 24:11, "Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter." Use us, Lord to deliver the unborn from death.

(Prayer offered by IFA)
In Context: Blinded by what we can see
This week, the Senate Judiciary Committee held hearings on the nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson to be an Associate Justice on the Supreme Court of the United States. There was a day of opening statements, two days for the nominee to answer questions, and a day of supplemental expert testimony.

The Senate and the Supreme Court have been operating and interacting for more than 200 years, forming and adjudicating the words of our laws and their meanings. Americans have been able to read and hear how their laws are made for at least the latter half of that time.

In the last four decades, the function of Congress has been harmed by a change to its operations, and one Senator during this week's hearings reiterated his hope to prevent the same cause of dysfunction from being imposed on the Supreme Court.

Only two decades after the first televised presidential debate in 1960, the U.S. House of Representatives installed cameras in the House chamber to broadcast the proceedings of the House. The Cable-Satellite Public Affairs Network picked up the feed and sent it throughout the country. People could see a screen-version of part of what was happening without being there—including Representatives themselves. The Senate followed suit a few years later.

Senator Sasse of Nebraska
said, “A huge part of why this institution doesn’t work well is because we have cameras everywhere. Cameras change human behavior. We know this. … There’s a whole bunch of things humans can do if they’re not immediately mindful of some distant camera audience that they might be trying to create a soundbite for.”

Those behavior changes include shifts in Members' limited bandwidth by spending less time where cameras are surrounding places that should be productive with other Members (on the floor, in committee) and more time in places that are less meaningfully productive (in their offices, on cable news).

The televising of the hearings put the focus on the emotional moments and the clashes instead of the substantive issue driving the clashes. Even though done in the name of transparency, the screen itself actually obscures attention from important matters.

The Supreme Court already releases audio and transcripts of oral arguments. That some image advocates consider this insufficient proves that cameras are about fake transparency looking for something beyond the words and their meanings communicated during oral arguments. Though the law should be dispassionate, they want to see a likeness of the passion and emotion.

Senator Sasse
wants the decision about Cameras-in-the-Court to be left up to the Court, not Congress. Congress would do better to go further by barring the Court from having cameras and removing the camera distractions from its own proceedings.

Father, few in your Church today understand how these images violate your Word. Only after Israel returned from exile in Babylon did the Nation finally turn away from images. Is the exile of a Nation and removal from its images the only way to remove images from a Nation, to restore its focus on the invisible God? Have we surrounded ourselves with enemies of our own making? Have we become blind by that which we have made ourselves to see?

“Elisha prayed, and said, ‘Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.’ Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. So when the Syrians came down to him, Elisha prayed to the Lord, and said, ‘Strike this people, I pray, with blindness.’ And He struck them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.” (2 Kings 6:17-18)

Dear Saints,

A lifestyle of REPENTANCE is so close to the heart of God.

Indeed, He commands us to  "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!" Matthew 3:2

How, then, can we approach His Throne of GRACE, in repentance?

We invite you to join us every week on Sunday evening, as we explore this vital topic together. We present a different prayer focus each week, leading us into repentance, so that we might approach His Throne of Grace in repentance, presenting ourselves to Him as a pure and a spotless Bride, without spot or wrinkle. (Ephesians 5:27)

Praying together, we desire to fulfill the mandate of Psalm 139:

" Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting." Psalm 139:24

You can join us, any Sunday evening, at 10:00 p.m. EST by calling:

". . . and if My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

"Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayer offered in this place."
(2 Chronicles 7:14,15)
