In Context: Every Day Counts
|
|
|
This was the last week either house of Congress was in session before the August recess.
Both made progress on their bills.
Both are far apart from each other.
Both have deadlines at the end of September to meet.
There are 12 legislative days until those deadlines.
There are 38 calendar days until the Senate returns.
There are 45 calendar days until the House returns.
There are 63 calendar days until the end of the fiscal year.
The number one division between the two parties, two Chambers and two Branches of government is over the shedding of innocent blood through abortion. Roe may be gone, but abortion definitely is not.
If you need renewed motivation for why abortion is a paramount issue and why now is an urgent, critical moment for action, consider the article on AJ Hurley's call for a Congressional hearing after recovering the bodies of aborted children:
“I’m a pediatric neonatal respiratory therapist. I worked at UCLA for about seven years, so I am used to seeing very small children. I can tell you every single one of those children were at gestational ages where they could have lived outside of the womb with little to zero help at all,” Hurley said. “One of the babies was basically a full-term child. And to be honest with you, it was like looking into pure depravity. I mean, honestly….how in the world could you ever do something to such a precious child? I think abortion is the most vile thing that we, as Americans, could potentially ever support. I’m on a rampage, honestly, just to expose it to the world because it shouldn’t be supported like this.”
Supporting it, Democrats are. On the House floor, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark said:
We will have 12 days when we return to fund the government and to live up to the job the American people sent us here to do. This is a reckless march to a MAGA shutdown, and for what? In pursuit of a national abortion ban? Is that what we are doing here?
Would that they were. Rather, they are trying to keep Federal tax dollars from paying for abortion. That has been Federal law since the Hyde Amendment in 1976. Somehow, even journalists in Washington are now treating no-Federal-funding-for-abortion as if it's a new policy or “amendment.”
In a six-month profile piece, Sen. John Fetterman said, “we can fight for things that are meaningful,” and specifically, “We’re fighting for women’s reproductive freedom,” Democrats favorite euphemism for taking the lives of unborn children in the womb.
This is their top priority. Democratic leadership is unanimous in their resolve to maintain legal protection for and increase public funding of this pure depravity.
Negotiations don't have to wait for 38 or 45 days. A lot can also be done during the 60 calendar days since a lot of negotiation negotiations happen off the floor chambers for both houses of Congress. This is also an ideal time for voters and constituents to make their views known to those elected to act on their behalf. Make a phone call. Make an appointment for a visit.
Prayer support doesn't have to wait for 38 or 45 days. Start now!
Some dynamics to watch leading up to the end of September:
- In the interest of putting “governing” over “messaging,” conservatives who become House leaders have tended to shift their approach in leadership that allows evils to continue by bringing bills to the floor expecting to lose votes from their party while picking up votes from the other. Pray House leaders preserve the integrity of legislation they've already passed.
- The Freedom Caucus is intent on making sure that doesn't happen and intend to bring consequences to the House agenda if it does. They've already shot down a floor Rule once, and they secured the ability to challenge the Speaker in his speakership if he wavers. Pray they don't waver and instead hold feet to the fire.
- Speaker McCarthy is committed not to allowing all Federal spending to get wrapped up into a single large spending bill that can gain lots of extra spending while losing transparency and accountability. Pray Speaker McCarthy holds firm, no matter the pressures or leverage brought against him.
- If negotiations are not completed before current spending runs out and part or all of the Federal government shuts down, it may not come back online all at once. Passing the 12 individual spending bills means some more necessary parts may get funded before other less necessary parts. Pray that Congress avoids omnibus legislation that wraps spending in large bills.
- As entrenched as both sides are, major drama is not inevitable. We know, love, and serve a great God, who moves the hearts of kings like water (Proverbs 21:1). We've seen signs abortion advocates know they have faced defeat, and God can do that again and more. Pray that God would liquify all resolve the Democrats have to continue the bloodshed.
Oh Lord, Father, we lift these many burdens up to you. We know You have loved this Nation, and we know this Nation has grieved Your Heart. We know we face our biggest moment of choosing yet, and we ask that You would engage all of us in this spiritual battle for truth, righteousness, salvation, holiness, and freedom. Give us faith to believe You, trust You, call on You, and hope for victory in You in this Nation. Turn us back to You!
“He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:38)

CHPP Welcomes You to Join Us Every Week in One Hour of Repentance
Sunday evening at 10:00 p.m. EDT
Dial 717-908-1983
Access Code: 9301470#
Dear Saints,
A lifestyle of REPENTANCE is so close to the heart of God.
Indeed, He commands us to "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!" Matthew 3:2
How, then, can we approach His Throne of GRACE, in repentance?
We invite you to join us every week on Sunday evening, as we explore this vital topic together. We present a different prayer focus each week, leading us into repentance, so that we might approach His Throne of Grace in repentance, presenting ourselves to Him as a pure and a spotless Bride, without spot or wrinkle. (Ephesians 5:27)
Praying together, we desire to fulfill the mandate of Psalm 139:
" Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting." Psalm 139:24
You can join us, any Sunday evening, at 10:00 p.m. EST by calling:
717-908-1983
Access Code: 9301470#
WELCOME!
". . . and if My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
"Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayer offered in this place." (2 Chronicles 7:14,15)
