McCarthy clinches speaker’s gavel at 15th attempt – what now for Republicans?
Kevin McCarthy delivers first remarks after winning House Speaker:
'Our nation is worth fighting for'
Kevin McCarthy won the speakership just after midnight Saturday with 216 votes to Democrat Hakeem Jeffries' 212

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy officially opened the 118th Congress early Saturday morning, holding the speaker’s gavel and conducting a chamber-wide swearing-in ceremony for new members.

His speakership followed a dramatic week of him slowly winning over 20 Republicans who initially did not support his speakership and defected their votes to other members.

After his victory in the 15th and final vote, McCarthy lauded: "I hope one thing is clear after this week: I will never give up. I will never give up for you, the American people. And I will never give up on keeping our Commitment to America."

"Our nation is worth fighting for," he added in his opening remarks.

Upon accepting the gavel as Speaker of the House, McCarthy thanked his colleagues for their support and shared his vision for uniting the legislative body.

"You know – my father always told me: It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. And now we need to finish strong for the American people," he said.

"As Speaker of the House, my ultimate responsibility is not to my party, my conference, or even our Congress. My responsibility – our responsibility – is to our country," the Californian continued. "Two months ago, you voted for a new direction for our country. You embraced our Commitment to America. And now, we are going to keep our commitment to you." (Fox News) Read more here.

- Father, we speak a blessing over our new Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy.  We thank you for his life dedicated to government service, and for his willingness to take on this new assignment.  We bless, also, his wife, Judy, who is herself a woman of prayer. We pray Ephesians 1:17 over him, Lord, that you would give him a Spirit of wisdom and revelation, that he may know you better.  We ask that you give him great discernment, that he would be able to determine, every day, what are the right decisions to make, that will be in the best interests of the nation.

Lord God, we ask You to give Kevin a heart and deep respect for every member of the Republican caucus, that he would consider their concerns before he makes any decision.  And, when he makes decisions, that they would be done with integrity and understanding, and that he would come into agreement with other House members when he goes forward.  May he walk every day with humility, seeking your face, knowing that he can only lead and govern correctly through your empowerment and guidance.  Protect him, that no weapon formed against him will prosper.  And may the joy of the Lord be his strength.   In Jesus name we offer this prayer, amen and amen.

- "For this reason I too . . . (pray) . . . that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him."
(Ephesians 1: 15,17)
In Context: Reaping in Due Time
After the first week of this new Congress ended where a Congress usually begins—with the election of a Speaker—and after midnight, when the time came for the traditional passing of the gavel from one Speaker to another, instead Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries fired off a defiant message of rejecting the American people's message in their 2022 election defeat.

His warm-up comments included quoting Galatians: “The Scripture says in Galatians: ‘Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.’” Indeed it does,
Galatians 6:9.

Jeffries listed what they view as accomplishments. One of his most emphatic lines was on their commitment to “continue to fight in this Congress for reproductive freedom.”

“Reproductive freedom” has long been a Democratic euphemism for abortion and the shedding of innocent blood in the womb. The key words in that statement are “this Congress.” Democrats know of Republican commitment to protecting human life and ending the shedding of innocent blood, and they want none of it.

Then, in a manner reminiscent of then-Senator Obama's 2004 Democratic National Convention speech, Jeffries waxed transcendent about America, “We are White, we are Black, we are Latino, we are Asian, we are Native American, we are Christian, we are Jewish, we are Muslim, we are Hindu, we are religious, we are secular, we are gay, we are straight, we are young, we are older, we are women, we are men, we are citizens, and we are Dreamers. Out of many we are one.”

The mixing of ethnicity, theology and morality is subtle and only noticed by the discerning. He went further: “no matter what kind of haters are trying to divide us, we are not going to let anyone take that away from us—not now, not ever.” Jeffries is planting and watering seeds in the American mind that anyone who confronts moral issues of sin and corruption disguised as identity issues is a “hater.”

Jeffries declared, “we will never compromise our principles” and then launched an A-to-Z list of attacks on anyone who supposedly opposes said principles including accusing them of bigotry, the cult, demagogues, extremism, fascism, gaslighting, hatred, isolation, judicial overreach, kangaroo courts, racism, slander, tyranny, voter suppression, and xenophobia.

Jeffries closed, “We will always do the right thing by the American people, so let us not grow weary of doing good, for the American people will reap the benefit of the harvest if we do not give up.”

Does he realize the kind of seeds House Democrats are planting and watering?

Dear Saints,

A lifestyle of REPENTANCE is so close to the heart of God.

Indeed, He commands us to  "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!" (Matthew 3:2)

How, then, can we approach His Throne of GRACE, in repentance?

We invite you to join us every week on Sunday evening, as we explore this vital topic together. We present a different prayer focus each week, leading us into repentance, so that we might approach His Throne of Grace in repentance, presenting ourselves to Him as a pure and a spotless Bride, without spot or wrinkle. (Ephesians 5:27)

Praying together, we desire to fulfill the mandate of Psalm 139:

" Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting." (Psalm 139:24)

You can join us, any Sunday evening, at 10:00 p.m. EST by calling:

Access Code: 9301470#

WELCOME!

". . . and if My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

"Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayer offered in this place."
(2 Chronicles 7:14,15)
