The Daily Brief:
Legislative Snapshot
Saturday, January 20, 2024

"For the kingdom is the LORD'S: and he is the governor among the nations." (Psalm 22:28)

"We the People"

"Standing United Together . . . Under the Cross of Christ"
While there are signs of weakening conservative resolve in the House, the same opportunities for cutting spending remain available.
  • House appropriators don't have to write spending bills to the maximum allowable amount.
  • Last year's debt limit deal still has the force of law to cut spending.
If passing a year-long CR would trigger cuts, then so could a series of short-term continuing resolutions that cover the same time frame in a series of steps instead.

The deadlines are no longer all-or-nothing. Not all of the U.S. Federal government would have shut down if Congress hadn't passed a CR this week, and that CR sets up the same approach again with 3/1/2024 and 3/8/2024 dates.

The calendar can still be worked in favor of cutting spending. While some may bemoan Congress getting nearly a year behind on spending legislation, that could be a good thing for holding down spending levels.

What few say publicly but everyone knows is that higher interest rates are putting a serious crimp on increases in federal spending. Rising interest rates alone cause increases in federal spending with exactly zero "benefit" for anyone except those willing and able to fund the U.S. national debt.

The wrangling over FY 2024 spending isn't over until it's over and made law.

- Father, we ask You to give Your people in Congress resolve to stand strong for what You would have Congress do with respect to spending by the U.S. Federal government.

- “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.” (Psalm 37:23)

Our Weekly Call to Repentance

CHPP Welcomes You to Join Us Every Week in One Hour of Repentance

Sunday evening at 10:00 p.m. EDT
Dial 717-908-1983
Access Code: 9301470#

Dear Saints,

A lifestyle of REPENTANCE is so close to the heart of God.

Indeed, He commands us to  "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!" Matthew 3:2

How, then, can we approach His Throne of GRACE, in repentance?

We invite you to join us every week on Sunday evening, as we explore this vital topic together. We present a different prayer focus each week, leading us into repentance, so that we might approach His Throne of Grace in repentance, presenting ourselves to Him as a pure and a spotless Bride, without spot or wrinkle. (Ephesians 5:27)

Praying together, we desire to fulfill the mandate of Psalm 139:

" Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting." Psalm 139:24

You can join us, any Sunday evening, at 10:00 p.m. EST by calling:

717-908-1983
Access Code: 9301470#

WELCOME!

". . . and if My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

"Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayer offered in this place."
(2 Chronicles 7:14,15)
