Republicans block 'rotten' election reform bill
in Senate as VP Harris presides over debate

Senate Republicans Tuesday blocked sweeping legislation on election and campaign finance reforms that Democrats said is crucial to ensuring voting rights and saving democracy but the GOP blasted as a partisan power grab.

The "For the People Act" needed 60 votes to clear a procedural vote in the Senate Tuesday, but Republicans filibustered and killed the legislation from advancing to debate. No Republicans joined with the 50 Democrats on the motion to proceed.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said Republicans won't stand for Democrats' attempt to impose new voting standards on states that would "rig" elections in their favor. He called the substance of the nearly 900-page bill "rotten" to its core.

Republicans took issue with imposing federal standards on state elections that they said would weaken state ID requirements. They also oppose starting a new public financing system for congressional elections and politicizing the Federal Elections Commission that enforces campaign finance laws.

Even GOP moderate Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska said she couldn't support the "partisan federal takeover of the election system." In a floor speech, she said she'd back elements of the bill and will co-sponsor the separate John Lewis Voting Rights Act, but can't back Democrats' "one-size-fits-all" reforms.  Read more

- Father God, we thank You that the Republicans are holding the line on this wicked piece of legislation. As the Senate now moves into the debate phase of S.1 through the filibuster, we stand united in prayer to see that S.1 does not pass the U.S. Senate.

FOCUS ON ISRAEL

1. In Washington, IDF chief warns US against rejoining Iran nuclear deal - Times of Israel

Military chief Aviv Kohavi warned American officials against their government’s plan to reenter the 2015 nuclear deal this week during a visit to Washington, DC, as part of a last-ditch effort by Israel to affect the ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran in Vienna.

The Israel Defense Forces chief of staff arrived in the United States on Sunday and spent the past two days in meetings with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley and US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin in the Pentagon, the military said.

“The chief of staff presented the failures of the current nuclear deal, which allow Iran to make significant advances in the coming years in the quantity and quality of centrifuges and in the amount and quality of enriched uranium, and he stressed the lack of oversight in the area of developing a nuclear weapon,” the IDF said in a statement. 2. Top three goals of Israeli Chief of Staff Kochavi during US visit - JNS

(June 21, 2021 / JNS) After delaying a planned key visit to the United States in late April due to the security situation in Gaza, Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi arrived in Washington, D.C., on Sunday looking to pursue three main objectives.

At the top of the priority list is communicating the IDF’s position and the latest intelligence assessments on the Iranian nuclear program. According to an Israeli military source, Kochavi is set to meet with American defense officials to discuss in detail professional military-to-military concerns about the nuclear program, which has been highly active in recent months.

Kochavi will also detail inherent dangers from Israel’s perspective that are associated with a return to the 2015 nuclear deal. (Read more)

3. Israel’s new leadership likely to advance Abraham Accords, put Palestinian issue on backburner - JNS

(June 22, 2021 / JNS) Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid is scheduled to travel to the United Arab Emirates next week, marking his first visit there since he became the country’s top diplomat.

The visit comes as Israel and the Biden administration seek to find common ground on mutual issues. While both have expressed a desire to expand the Abraham Accords, key differences are likely to remain on issues such as the Palestinians and Iran. Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, like his predecessor, is opposed to the United States rejoining the Iranian nuclear deal, and the new government is unlikely to possess the political willpower to make any significant moves on the Palestinian front.

The international move to offer Iran concessions has put countries like Saudi Arabia and the UAE on edge—not to mention Israel—and decreases their willingness to take diplomatic risks. As a result, the Saudis and Emiratis are again engaging with Tehran because they want to contain the damage of the revival of the nuclear deal, Reuters reported earlier this month. (Read more)

4. Bill threatening coalition hits new snag - Jerusalem Post

Coalition chairwoman Idit Silman postponed a vote set for Wednesday on a controversial ordinance preventing family reunification of Palestinians and Israeli Arabs to next week, due to new complaints from the Ra’am (United Arab List) Party.
Compromises were reached in a lengthy meeting late Monday night attended by Silman, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked and Ra’am head Mansour Abbas. At the conclusion of the meeting, there was hope that the ordinance could be passed on Wednesday.

The participants agreed on a series of measures that could enable Ra’am to vote in favor, such as enabling Palestinians who marry Israelis to obtain health treatment in Israel and drivers’ licenses, and exemptions for couples married before they were prohibited from living in Israel in 1993. Shaked agreed to help humanitarian cases.
But on Tuesday, Ra’am MKs came under pressure from such families and they backtracked. (Read more)

5. Bennett: We are facing a new outbreak - don't go abroad - Israel National News

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett visited Ben Gurion Airport Tuesday as Israel deals with the spread of the Delta variant of the coronavirus.

"The Delta strain, the Indian strain, is spreading rapidly around the world," Bennett said. "Its infection rate is much higher than we realized. It infects about 50% more than the original corona strain and we are seeing the beginning of its spread within Israel. We do not always know how to locate the source. It also infects people who have been vaccinated. You can get vaccinated and get infected."

"We have seen in other countries like the UK a significant increase in child hospitalizations," the prime minister continued. "So we made an initial decision to treat it as a new outbreak - and our goal is to interrupt it; take a bucket of water and pour it over the fire when it is still small." (Read more)

- Father God, we ask that the leaders in our own nation carefully monitor these news strains of COVID, if so. Let us brace ourselves spiritually should this wicked strain hit our own shores, and let us lay up storehouses within our own dwelling places, that we can come through this next round -- should it hit us as Pandemic II - intact.

- "Go to the ant, O sluggard, Observe her ways and be wise, Which, having no chief,
Officer or ruler, Prepares her food in the summer And gathers her provision in the harvest."
(Proverbs 6:6-9)

The Daily Brief
1. Democratic Group Will Pour Millions Into Voting Rights Efforts - DML News

Priorities USA, one of the biggest Democratic super PACs, announced on Tuesday that it would pump $20 million into voting rights initiatives ahead of the 2022 election cycle, aiming to combat Republican-led election laws with digital ads and organizing as well as in the courts.

The digital effort will include a series of extensive voter information campaigns, going beyond a more traditional approach that would consist solely of persuasion ads. The group’s overall goal is to help people navigate a new balloting landscape created by the many new restrictions passed by Republicans in at least 16 states. The campaigns will also provide voting tools like text message reminders to register to vote or request an absentee ballot.

“The purpose of this program is to really center the voters who we know are particularly targeted by the Republicans’ suppression efforts,” said Danielle Butterfield, the executive director of Priorities USA. “Those are voters of color, Black and Latino voters specifically, and we plan to center them both in our creative and our targeting to make sure that they are aware of how empowering voting is.”  (Read more)
- Lord God we pray that the eyes of the American public’s hearts will be flooded with light -- no matter how much money is spent on the 2022 elections. We decree that the people will get out and vote for what is right and they will reject evil and choose good. In the name of Jesus we pray, amen.

- "Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth." (Colossians 3:2)

2. Nebraska to send state troopers to Texas to aid border security, Gov. Ricketts says - Fox News

Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts said he will send a group of state troopers to Texas later this month to assist local authorities with border security amid an ongoing immigration crisis.

Ricketts said his decision was a response to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s recent public call for state governors to provide law enforcement resources. Like other prominent Republicans, the Nebraska governor argued that President Biden’s immigration policies have exacerbated the border crisis.

"Nebraska is stepping up to help Texas respond to the ongoing crisis on their border with Mexico," Ricketts said in a statement.  "The disastrous policies of the Biden-Harris Administration created an immigration crisis on the border.  While the federal government has fallen short in its response, Nebraska is happy to step up to provide assistance to Texas as they work to protect their communities and keep people safe." (Read more)

- Thank you Lord God for these local leaders and governors that stepped up to do what is right to protect their states and protect their citizens. We ask that more local leaders and representatives would do the same for their states and their citizens in Jesus name we pray amen.

- “Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.” (Galatians 6:9)

3. Kyrsten Sinema: Dems hypocritical for trying to end filibuster after using it ‘just last year’ - Fox News

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema Monday doubled down on her defense of the Senate’s legislative filibuster, declaring in a Washington Post op-ed that it is important to stop "repeated radical reversals" of federal law.

Sinema, D-Ariz., and Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., have been the two most vocal Democrats in the chamber defending the 60-vote threshold for legislation, often attracting the ire of their more liberal colleagues. And Sinema took a page from Manchin’s playbook Monday by laying out her case for the Senate’s controversial minority protection in an opinion piece.

"To those who want to eliminate the legislative filibuster to pass the For the People Act (voting-rights legislation I support and have co-sponsored), I would ask: Would it be good for our country if we did, only to see that legislation rescinded a few years from now and replaced by a nationwide voter-ID law or restrictions on voting by mail in federal elections, over the objections of the minority?" Sinema wrote in The Post. (Read more)

- Lord God we pray for Kyrsten Sinema that she will not bow down to pressure to go along with her party if she feels that they are going down the wrong path. We ask Lord that you would give her a supernatural encounter with you and that she would vote for justice and righteousness and submit all her ways to you God, in Jesus name, amen.

- "Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time" (1 Peter 5:6)

4. House Republicans Demand To Know How A Left-Leaning Group Allegedly Channeled Private Funds To Election Agencies - Daily Caller

A group of House Republicans sent a letter Monday to the left-leaning group Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL), calling on them to explain where the hundreds of millions of dollars they were given during the COVID-19 pandemic went, saying the group spent less than one percent on personal protective equipment (PPE).

The Daily Caller first obtained the letter which was spearheaded by Republican New York Rep. Claudia Tenney who was joined by 13 other House Republicans. The letter mentions that CTCL gave $350 million to nearly 2,500 election officials in 48 states and the District of Columbia in 2020. The lawmakers call on the CTCL to immediately publish their full financial 990s for public review, saying it is the groups legal obligation as a registered 501(c)(3).

“Many state and local entities have reported spending your grant money on expenses as varied and unrelated to COVID-19 as advertising, designing absentee ballots, registering teen voters, automatic voter registration, and even pay raises and new vehicle purchases. An elections supervisor in Lowndes County, Georgia, stated that CTCL was ‘very lenient regarding what we could spend the money on. They put virtually no restrictions on it as long as it relates to the election.’ Furthermore, it appears that 92% of CTCL grants were given to overwhelmingly Democrat-leaning precincts,” the letter states. - Lord God we thank you and praise you that you are a God of justice and you are a God of righteousness. We speak that justice and that righteousness into our country and into all of the corporations, and institutions that use government funds to influence this country in an ungodly manner. We shed light on what is done in secret that it will come to light and the fraud would be exposed and that those who did wrong will be held accountable in Jesus name.

- “For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light.” (Luke 8:17)

5. Trump says he has not conceded November election - Washington Examiner

“I never admitted defeat,” Trump said during an interview with Just the News, adding, “No, I never, the word is ‘concede,’ [and] I have not conceded.”

In the months following the fall presidential contest, Trump refused to admit defeat, arguing the presidency had been stolen from him by Democrats. The Trump campaign filed several legal challenges alleging widespread voter fraud, the majority of which were rejected by the courts.

But in January, after the riot at the Capitol, Trump said in a video that a "new administration will be inaugurated on Jan. 20.” (Read more)

- Lord God we know that states are still trying to solidify their election results. In addition, we are still having audits in several different battleground states. There are court cases that haven’t even been heard yet so Donald Trump is correct. We do not know who the real winner is and we should not let go and not accept defeat until this election mess is figured out in the name of Jesus.

- “He will not be disheartened or crushed
Until He has established justice in the earth;
And the coastlands will wait expectantly for His law.”
(Isaiah 42:4)

6. Nellis Air Force Base Hosts First-Ever Drag Queen Show: ‘Essential to the Morale, Readiness’ - Brietbart

The Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada recently hosted its first-ever drag queen show at one of its on-base dining and entertainment clubs, according a base spokesperson.
Nellis Air Force Base said in an email statement to Breitbart News:

Nellis Air Force Base and the 99th Air Base Wing hosted its first-ever drag show Thursday, June 17, at the Nellis Club. The event was sponsored by a private organization and provided an opportunity for attendees to learn more about the history and significance of drag performance art within the LGBT+ community.

Ensuring our ranks reflect and are inclusive of the American people is essential to the morale, cohesion, and readiness of the military. Nellis Air Force Base is committed to providing and championing an environment that is characterized by equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion.

The drag queen show came to light after Air Force veteran podcaster “BK” posted a digital flyer for the event that read: “DRAG-U-NELLIS” and “CLASS IS IN SESSION.”

- Oh God, what does this have to do with the duties and functions of the military and its day-to-day activities? We bind all distractions and attempts to dilute and soften our brave men and women of every military branch In the name of Jesus Christ. We cover every individual with the blood of Christ, in Jesus name, amen.

- “for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.” (Matthew 26:28)

7. Obama: Voting rights bill must pass before next election - The Hill

Former President Obama said Monday that Congress needs to pass voting rights legislation before the 2022 midterm elections, or American democracy could be at risk.
"We can't wait until the next election because if we have the same kinds of shenanigans that brought about Jan. 6, if we have that for a couple more election cycles, we're going to have real problems in terms of our democracy long-term," said Obama.

Speaking on a call with grassroots supporters alongside former Attorney General Eric Holder, Obama said debate over the voting rights bill, known as the For the People Act, was worth it for him to engage in political debate, even as a former president.

“Since I left office I've tried to make a policy not to weigh in on the day-to-day scrum in Washington," said Obama. "But what's happening this week is more than just a partisan bill coming up or not coming up to a vote," he added. (Read more)

- Lord God, this man weighs in all the time on Washington policy and controversies. And we pray right now that his words and his influence will have no effect on the representatives in Washington. We pray for each and every representative -- that they vote according to the Constitution and the oaths that they took to serve their country. Cause each one to ignore Barack Obama, refusing to follow his marching orders. In Jesus name we pray.

- “Remind them of these things, and solemnly charge them in the presence of God not to wrangle about words, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the hearers.” (2 Timothy 2:14)

 8. House to take big step on eliminating Trump-era rules - The Hill

The House is gearing up for votes this week to undo three Trump-era rules, using a special legislative tool to repeal some of the previous administration’s agency actions. Democrats will draw on the Congressional Review Act (CRA) to take aim at rules governing methane regulations, lending practices and employment discrimination cases.

The three resolutions, which made it through the Senate on simple majority votes that included Republicans crossing the aisle on two of the measures, all have a good chance of clearing the House.

Sending the measures to President Biden’s desk would deal a blow to former President Trump’s legacy and mark the first time Congress has repealed his administration’s policies through the CRA, which allows lawmakers and a new president to get rid of rules established under a previous president if they were completed shortly before the change in administration. (Read more)

- Lord God we are praying for each representative in Congress that they will vote according to righteous and just standards. We pray that they will follow the Constitution and follow the oaths they took to their country and their constituents and vote accordingly. We bind all alternative motives and ungodly influences clouding the minds of these representatives in Jesus name.

- "You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God." (James 4:4)

9. U.S. Preparing More Sanctions Against Russia, Sullivan Says - NYT

President Biden’s national security adviser said on Sunday that the United States was preparing more sanctions against Russia in response to the poisoning of Aleksei A. Navalny, the country’s most prominent opposition leader, days after Mr. Biden attended his first face-to-face summit meeting with President Vladimir V. Putin.

“We are preparing another package of sanctions to apply in this case,” Jake Sullivan, the national security adviser, said on CNN’s “State of the Union,” referring to Mr. Navalny’s treatment.

Mr. Sullivan was vague when pressed on the timing of the sanctions or what they would include, saying only that additional action would come “as soon as we develop the packages to ensure that we’re getting the right targets.” (Read more)

- Lord, we ask that You will allow only Your will to be done with regard to Russian actions against dissidents like Navalny or any other interference or evil behavior.

- “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”  (Matthew 6:10

Snow White And The 7 Sex Orientations

The Daily Jot, Bill Wilson, June 22, 2021

Snow White no longer has seven dwarfs representing her various moods, but rather at least seven sexual orientations—LGBTQI+–to ply young minds. Well, maybe Snow White won’t specifically be part of Disney’s “Pride Month Celebration,” but Disney is joining the ranks of companies normalizing the gay, lesbian, transgender agenda in its kids characters. Many consider this sexual abuse because characteristics identified with sexuality are used to groom minor children. Disney is using iconic characters to promote alternative sexual identification among young children. Critics say that if you went into someone’s living room and promoted sexuality to their minor children, you would be arrested. Why not Disney?

This is what Disney is saying, “We believe in the power of inclusive storytelling that brings us together and inspires us to live authentically, and Disney+ is committed to amplifying LGBTQ+ and BIPOC voices. We are proud to be a home for diverse creators, talent, and content; whether we’re celebrating our humanity as seen in Howard, connecting our families in Out, or reminding ourselves to love loud and sing louder in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Around the world, The Walt Disney Company proudly contributes towards organizations that support LGBTQ+ communities and people. Discover LGBTQ+ characters and stories in the “Celebrate Pride Month” content set now streaming on #DisneyPlus and join us in recognizing the community all month long with special spotlights, musical moments, laughter and love.” WOW! Virginia's Loudoun County School Board silences public comment after raucous meeting, 2 men arrested

259 people signed up for public comments.
 Only 51 voices were heard.

The embattled school board of Virginia’s Loudoun County cut off public comment during a fiery meeting Tuesday as residents traded barbs over new transgender policy proposals Tuesday following weeks of protests from district parents opposed to some of the measures, which they have criticized as potential left-wing indoctrination and a violation of parental rights.

The policies affect transgender student rights, privacy and restroom accommodations and would require Loudoun County Public Schools employees to use students’ preferred names or pronouns. An official school board vote on the proposal is not expected until at least Aug. 10.

But it has become a hot-button issue in the district, where 259 residents signed up to speak during the public comment session Tuesday and people lined up at the doors early to get seats in the packed auditorium. . .

The first half-dozen speakers were in support of policy proposal 8040, but fireworks erupted when the seventh, who identified herself as the mother of a transgender Loudoun student, was booed after saying "hate" was "dripping from the followers of Jesus in this room" – a swipe at Christian parents in the district who have argued that transgender discussions should be held at home and not in public school.

The board called a 5-minute recess to let things cool off.

After the recess, board chair Brenda Sheridan said members had voted unanimously to end public comment if the room erupted again.

The situation got very heated and turned physical after a man resisted arrest.  Several armed police officers had to restrain him and tackle him to the floor. He kept fighting them. He was handcuffed and dragged outside. Finally several armed police officers dragged him out of the room. It was then declared an unlawful assembly and everyone was ordered to leave.

The large number of conservative parents in the room began singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" as board members filed out. (Fox News) Read more.

- Father God, this scene is only one of hundreds -- if not thousands -- that will be
repeated throughout our nation this summer. Although this report does not mention the CRT curriculum directly, we know that that issue was also on the agenda before the Board voted to silence the voices of the parents.

Lord God, as the parents continue to fight to see transgender "pronouns" dropped AND the dangerous CRT curriculum removed, we stand with them in prayer. Help us, O Lord, we pray, amen!

- "All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”           (1 Samuel 17:47)

'God Loves You': Good Samaritan Helps Save Man in Mental, Emotional Distress by Reminding Him of God's Love

After spending nearly seven hours hanging from a sign above an Oklahoma highway, an unidentified man seeking to end his own life changed his mind after a good Samaritan told him, "God loves you."

Rick Jewell, the good Samaritan, told News Channel 8 that his son noticed that the man in distress was coincidentally in the exact location as a giant cross that is illuminated during the holidays.

"I stayed over here and prayed for 15 minutes when I first got here, and then my son says, 'Look over their Dad. There's a cross right behind him,'" Jewell noted.

Onlooker Trei Jackson told the news station that Jewell's intervention did the trick after the man in distress did not respond to calls to climb down from the sign above Interstate 244.

"Ole' boy told him that Jesus loves you, basically, and that you ain't do no wrong, to come down, just ask for help. He came down," Jackson said.

"God loves you guy," Jewell said to the man, prompting him to come down.

"I just started talking to him, and I told him there was more to life than what he was doing and that God loved him," Jewell explained. "He looked at me, and I told him to throw me his cigarettes, he threw me those, I said throw me that rope, he threw me that rope, and I said now get down from there. I said they're going to help you. He headed down. Simple. It's crazy." Read More

Thoughts for Repentance
Let's Follow the Pilgrims' Example of Repentance:

Derek Prince, in one of his books, reports a drought faced by the Pilgrims 400 years ago.
Desperate, they called on God for His Solution, set forth in His Word. 2 Chronicles 7:13 points out how God Himself withholds the rain. Verse 14 establishes the 4 key steps we believers in Him need to take before He will hear from heaven, forgive our sins, and heal our land.

Seeking God's Solution, the Pilgrims set aside a day for "humiliation, fasting and prayer." The Lord had to have seen that they were following 2 Chronicles 7:14: they humbled themselves, prayed, sought His face, and turned from their wicked ways.

What was the result? YES--- as always, God did His part! Later that afternoon a soft, gentle rain fell! The drought was broken. Their living faith in the Living God was deepened.

His Eye is on the Sparrow

Words: Civilla Martin
Music: Charles Gabriel

Scripture: Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father…So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Matthew 10:29–31

Lyrics:
Why should I feel discouraged,
Why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely,
And long for Heav’n and home,
When Jesus is my portion?
My constant friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

Refrain
I sing because I’m happy,
I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

Let not your heart be troubled,
His tender word I hear,
And resting on His goodness,
I lose my doubts and fears;
Though by the path He leadeth,
But one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

Refrain

Whenever I am tempted,
Whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to sighing,
When hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him,
From care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

Refrain

Our Mission Statement

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession on site for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that "God's will be done in earth, as it is in heaven."
