The Daily Brief

1. CDC warns American parents to brace for another outbreak of mysterious child-paralyzing disease this fall amid COVID-19 pandemic and flu season - Daily Mail

On top of COVID-19 and the seasonal flu, Americans should expect another outbreak of the rare but paralyzing disease acute flaccid myelitis (AFM), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warned Tuesday.

AFM is a mysterious disease that experts believe can be triggered by several enteroviruses - but primarily EV-D68 - which commonly cause respiratory infections, but occasionally lead to devastating illnesses in children.

AFM is a neurological condition that is believed to develop after a virus attacks children's spinal cords (directly or indirectly), leading to limb and muscle weakness and sometimes long-term disability or paralysis.

And as parents brace themselves to send their children to school amid the pandemic, the CDC is urging them to be vigilant for this additional threat to their kids' health.(Read more)

- In Jesus name we break the power of these words and negative confessions over America's children. We place a hedge of protection over Americans children that no harm will prevail against them. Amen.

This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. (Psalm 91:2)

2. Trump appointee alleges 'rampant anti-Christian sentiment' at USAID - Washington Examiner

A Trump administration appointee on Monday alleged that there is "rampant anti-Christian sentiment" at the United States Agency for International Development.

Merritt Corrigan, who serves as the deputy White House liaison to the agency, which is responsible for federal foreign aid, wrote on Twitter that she plans to "expose" the bias in a Thursday press conference. Corrigan also accused New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez and New York Rep. Eliot Engel of engaging in a "corrupt campaign" to remove her from USAID. Corrigan also criticized Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine and New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker for calling for her ouster.

Corrigan said that she is concerned by what she sees as funding that favors gay and transgender causes in opposition to "Christian beliefs, which are shared by the majority of Americans." (Read more)

-Father, we declare the favor of God upon those holding Christian beliefs in all places in government and business. Just as you caused the official to have favor toward Daniel, cause the officials at USAID to have favor toward those with conservative Christian beliefs.

-9) Now God had caused the official to show favor and compassion to Daniel, (Daniel 1:9)

3. U.S. Small Business Bailout Money Flowed to Chinese-Owned Companies - New York Times

Millions of dollars of Paycheck Protection Program loans went to China-backed businesses in critical sectors, a study found.

President Trump has blamed China for the coronavirus pandemic and the ensuing economic crisis, but as the White House looks to stabilize small businesses in the United States, the rescue effort has had an unintended beneficiary: Chinese companies.

Millions of dollars of American taxpayer money have flowed to China from the $660 billion Paycheck Protection Program that was created in March to be a lifeline for struggling small businesses in the United States. But because the economic relief legislation allowed American subsidiaries of foreign firms to receive the loans, a substantial chunk of the money went to America's biggest economic rival, a new analysis shows.

According to a review of publicly available loan data by the strategy consulting firm Horizon Advisory, $192 million to $419 million has gone to more than 125 companies that Chinese entities own or invest in. Many of the loans were quite sizable; at least 32 Chinese companies received loans worth more than $1 million, with those totaling as much as $180 million. (Read more)

-Father, how does this happen? Give wisdom on appropriating these loans to American owned companies. There were many small businesses who did not get the loans. We call upon You, Jehovah Jireh our provider!

-"For the LORD your God has blessed you in all that you have done; He has known your wanderings through this great wilderness these forty years the LORD your God has been with you; you have not lacked a thing."(Deuteronomy 2:7)

4. Thousands of non-US residents received $1,200 coronavirus stimulus checks: report - The Hill

Thousands on non-U.S. residents who were in the country on temporary work visas have received $1,200 stimulus checks dispensed to them in error under the coronavirus relief CARES Act, NPR reported on Wednesday.

The mistake is apparently due to the fact that many of the foreign workers who annually come to the U.S. for low-wage seasonal jobs filed their tax forms incorrectly.

"I would say probably anywhere to a third to a half [of first-time foreign filers] are filing the wrong return," Georgia attorney Clayton Cartwright told NPR, noting that errors are especially likely if workers use an online tax service such as TurboTax, which is intended only for U.S. residents.

This is just the latest problem with the stimulus checks, which were meant to help offset the economic hardship created by the coronavirus pandemic. Nearly $1.4 billion worth of stimulus checks were also sent in error to dead people. (Read more)

-Father, help the government correct these errors, and be good managers of taxpayer dollars.

-But all things should be done decently and in order. (1 Corinthians 14:40)

5. California pastor defies coronavirus orders despite threat of arrest: Newsom 'not the head of the church' - Fox News

California Gov. Gavin Newsom is overstepping his executive privileges with "draconian" restrictions by shutting down churches and telling believers they cannot worship during the coronavirus pandemic, a prominent pastor told "Fox News @ Night" Monday.

Pastor John MacArther says he has been warned he could face fines or arrest for defying Newsom's July orders by hosting indoor services at Grace Community Church in Los Angeles County, which he says is not warranted by the reality of COVID-19.

"We feel like we are the most essential reality in the world," MacArthur told host Shannon Bream. "Look, Jesus is Lord ... He is the head of our church. Governor Newsom is not the head of the church. [Los Angeles] Mayor [Eric] Garcetti is not the head of the church."

The Rev. Franklin Graham, president and CEO of Samaritan's Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, expressed his support for MacArthur's stand for "religious freedom." (Read more)

-Father, give favor to the Church. Reverse these restrictions by Governor Newsom. Surround Governor Newsom with sound, Godly council, and we bind all the voices of evil. We pray protection on all the pastors in California.

-But Peter and the apostles answered, "We must obey God rather than men. (Acts 5:29)

6. Trump calls for first presidential debate to be moved up due to early, mail-in voting - Fox News

President Trump on Wednesday morning called for the first presidential debate to be moved up, citing increased mail-in and early voting that will see many ballots cast in the presidential election before the first debate is held.

"The one problem I have, the debate's very late. It's at the end of September and a lot of ballots will already be cast by that time," Trump said in a "Fox & Friends" interview. The first presidential debate is scheduled for Sept. 29 in Cleveland. Trump added: "Why are they putting the first debate so late? The first debate should be before the first - at least before the first ballots go out. And they have it a month later, almost a month later. It's ridiculous."

In the swing state of Michigan, for example, absentee ballots can be cast 45 days before the election. In Virginia, in-person early voting starts that early. And in Minnesota, in-person early voting starts on Sept. 18. (Read more)

-In the name of Jesus Christ we cut the root of the plot and scheme of the enemy to try and steal the 2020 election through fraud. We pray Lord that you would speak to your people about how to vote heavens agenda at the polls this year in Jesus name amen.

-"I will make the people who oppose you afraid of me; I will bring confusion among the people against whom you fight, and I will make all your enemies turn and run from you. (Exodus 23:27) Good News Translation

7. Violence in Portland diminishes as state police take over for DHS - Washington Examiner

Violent attacks against federal buildings and police in Portland, Oregon, have diminished in the week since the Trump administration and local officials reached an agreement to increase the state police presence and pull out most Department of Homeland Security employees.

"After weeks of rioting and nightly attacks on federal officers and property, activity in the vicinity of the Mark O. Hatfield Federal Courthouse continues in an overall trend of diminishing violence," a senior DHS official wrote in an email Wednesday. "While violent criminal activity persists elsewhere in Portland, Monday night marked the second straight night during which rioters did not attack federal property or officers."

The official insisted the decline in violence, which had included commercial fireworks being hurled at federal police, was "directly attributable to the long-awaited cooperation from state and local law enforcement, which assisted with clearing the parks where rioters daily staged their nightly siege." (Read more)

-Father, thank You for this report of diminished violence in Portland. We declare violence shall no more be in our land. We declare Peace and safety.

- Violence shall no more be heard in your land, devastation or destruction within your borders; you shall call your walls Salvation, and your gates Praise. (Isaiah 60:18)

8. Lebanese Red Cross: Over 100 Dead, 4,000 Injured, Hundreds Missing in Beirut - Brietbart

The governor of Beirut estimated economic damage from the explosion at $3 billion to $5 billion and said up to 300,000 people have been rendered homeless.

The Red Cross said its teams are "still conducting search and rescue operations" in Beirut and surrounding areas.

"What we are witnessing is a huge catastrophe. There are victims and casualties everywhere," said George Kettani, head of the Lebanese Red Cross.

"There are many people missing. People are asking the emergency department about their loved ones and it is difficult to search at night because there is no electricity," added Health Minister Hamad Hasan, who put the death toll slightly lower at 80. Beirut governor Marwan Abboud said engineers are still working to assess the full extent of the destruction, but it is already apparent that at least half of the city was damaged.

"I think there are between 250,000 and 300,000 people who are now without homes," he estimated. (Read more)

-Father, we pray for the people in Beirut. We pray those who are missing will be found. We pray provision for food, water, shelter, and necessities for those who lost their homes. We speak comfort to the people. May Your mercy hover over them, and may they recognize You as Savior.

-For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

9. Sally Yates Denies Anti-Trump Politics in Obama's Flynn Inquiry - Bloomberg

A key player in the case against former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn testified that President Barack Obama and his deputies focused solely on national security, not anti-Trump politics, in discussing what to do about Flynn's dealings with Russia's ambassador.

"Something like that would have set off alarms for me," Sally Yates, who was the second-in-command at the Justice Department at the time of the conversation, told the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday. "No such thing happened. The president was focused entirely on the national security implications of sharing sensitive intelligence information with General Flynn during the transitional process that was obviously already underway at the White House."

President Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress say a White House meeting on Jan. 5, 2017 was part of a plot by Obama's administration and rogue forces in the FBI to spy on his campaign and then conduct a "witch hunt" into allegations of collaborating with campaign interference by Russia. Yates participated in the meeting.

Wednesday's hearing had a high-profile viewer in Trump, who tweeted shortly after it began that Yates has "zero credibility." (Read more)

-Father, reveal all truth surrounding Flynn and the Obama administration, and the spying on the Trump campaign. May those who broke the law, not be above the law!

-A false witness shall not be unpunished, and [he that] speaketh lies shall perish.(Proverbs 19:9)

10. PRESIDENT TRUMP SIGNS THE 'HISTORIC' GREAT AMERICAN OUTDOORS ACT INTO LAW PRESERVING OUR NATIONAL PARKS - BCN

Earlier today, President Trump signed the Great American Outdoors Act into law; which funds and preserves US National Parks. Speaking at the signing, Ivanka Trump-the President's daughter-noted that the funding was "long overdue."

Back in March, President Trump tweeted: "I am calling on Congress to send me a Bill that fully and permanently funds the LWCF (Land and Water Conservation Fund) and restores our National Parks. When I sign it into law, it will be HISTORIC for our beautiful public lands.

The Great American Outdoors Act was a bipartisan-supported piece of legislation, a rarity in these divided times. According to a report by The Hill, "the LWCF provides money to protect endangered species habitats, develop parks and outdoor recreation sites and protect sensitive forests. It was permanently authorized last year, but its funding was never guaranteed. The bill would also provide up to $1.9 billion annually for five years for national park maintenance. (Read more)

- Father, thank You for this legislation to protect public land, and endangered habitats. Help us be good stewards of the land You have given us.

"Command those who are rich in this world's goods not to be haughty or to set their hope on riches, which are uncertain, but on God who richly provides us with all things for our enjoyment. Tell them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, to be generous givers, sharing with others. In this way they will save up a treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the future and so lay hold of what is truly life."(1Timothy 6:17-19)

Standing to a standard

Several professional athletes with Major League Baseball (MLB) and the National Basketball Association (NBA) have stood for the National Anthem while the majority have gone along with the herd mentality of kneeling in protest of racial injustices. Orlando Magic's Jonathan Isaac was the first NBA player to stand for the anthem prior to the league's "bubble" games where painted on each side mid-court in all caps, "BLACK LIVES MATTER," everyone on the sidelines is wearing T-Shirts that say "Black Lives Matter," and players no longer have their names on their jersey's, but rather sayings like "Equality," "Say Her Name," "I Am A Man," etc. Isaac, however, stood without the T-shirt, during the anthem.

Bleacher Report quoted Isaac, a black man, as saying, "I do believe that Black lives matter, but I just felt like it was a decision that I had to make, and I didn't feel like putting that shirt on and kneeling went hand in hand with supporting Black lives. I believe that for myself, my life has been supported by gospel, Jesus Christ, and everyone is made in the image of God and that we all forge through God's glory . . . I think when you look around, racism isn't the only thing that plagues our society, that plagues our nation, that plagues our world, and I think coming together on that message that we want to get past not only racism but everything that plagues as us as a society, I feel like the answer to that is gospel."

Miami Heat's Meyers Leonard, a white man, said he believes "Black lives matter," but he also supports the military as his brother and others who have fought for the country. Leonard said, "I am a compassionate human being and I truly love all people. I can't fully comprehend how our world, literally and figuratively, has turned into Black and white. There's a line in the sand, so to speak: 'If you're not kneeling, you're not with us.' And that's not true." San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Sam Coonrod, a white man, stood based on his Christian beliefs, saying, "I'm a Christian. So, I just believe that I can't kneel before anything besides God." He disagrees with the Black Lives Matter organization, saying, "How they lean toward Marxism, and they've said some negative things about the nuclear family. I just can't get on board with that."

These athletes are making good points AND they are not getting ripped apart by the media and the radical left. Maybe it's how they are making their case. Their teammates support them while at the same time disagree with them. It shows respect. Beyond the National Anthem, Isaac and Coonrod look to their faith as to why they are not kneeling. Isaiah 45:23, in his prophecy to Cyrus, the Lord God said, "I have sworn by Myself; The word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness, And shall not return, That to Me every knee shall bow, Every tongue shall take an oath." This is also referenced and repeated in Philippians 2 and Romans 14. These athletes didn't attack people. They respected others opinion while disagreeing. They stated their standard, which is far higher than the anthem of any nation. A good example on how to stand.

FBI On the Move

The FBI has opened 300 'domestic terror' investigations as a result of riots, attorney tells Capitol hearing on Antifa

The FBI has opened more than 300 domestic terrorism investigations since George Floyd's death in Minneapolis kicked off nationwide unrest and riots, a federal attorney revealed Tuesday in a hearing on Capitol Hill on Antifa and violent protests.

Erin Nealy Cox, a U.S. attorney tapped by Attorney General William Barr to lead a task force on violent anti-government extremists, said the feds have opened hundreds of federal criminal investigations surrounding the violence and rioting since May 28.

"They have since May 28 [opened] over 300 domestic terrorist investigations," Cox told a Senate Judiciary subcommittee hearing on preventing violent protests. "That does not include any potential civil rights investigations or violent crime associated with the riots." [Fox News]

- Thank you Father God for Attorney General Barr's courage to investigate the violence that is going on in our country. Let your justice and righteousness be swift and let these investigations be fruitful exposing those who have instigated them. In Jesus name. Amen.

-The Lord tests the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence. (Psalm 11:5)

2. Up to 300,000 left homeless by deadly blast in Beirut, governor says - Times of Israel

The huge blast in Beirut has left 300,000 people homeless and caused damage across half of the city estimated to cost more than $3 billion, its governor tells AFP.

"I think there are between 250,000 and 300,000 people who are now without homes," says Marwan Aboud, adding that the estimated cost of the damage from yesterday's explosion was between $3 billion and $5 billion dollars. (Read more)

3. Israeli firm releases satellite photos of Beirut blast aftermath - Times of Israel

An Israeli satellite imagery analysis firm releases fresh bird's-eye images of the damage caused by yesterday's massive explosions at the Beirut Port.

The photographs show that the blasts caused a 70-meter (230-foot) crater near the port, leveling the buildings immediately surrounding the site, and directly damaging structures up to two kilometers (1.2 miles) away.

In one of the photos, a boat can be seen on its side after being knocked over by the force of the blast. (Read more)

4. Nasrallah threatened to blow up Israel with same chemicals as Beirut blast - Jerusalem Post

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah threatened in the past to destroy Israel by causing a massive explosion in the port of Haifa using ammonia tanks that he said would be like a "nuclear" explosion. In addition Hezbollah allegedly sought to acquire ammonium nitrate via Syria since 2009 and tried to infiltrate the agriculture ministry in Lebanon to do so, according to leaked diplomatic cables.

The archival footage has been circulating in the wake of the massive explosion in Lebanon that killed more than 100 and injured 4,000 and has left hundreds missing. It illustrates Hezbollah's terrorist strategy of targeting civilians for mass murder, despite the organization's claim that it is "resisting" Israel by defending Lebanon.

A source quoted in a cache of leaked diplomatic cables and other reports noted that Hezbollah's supply of some explosive material had been cut off over the last decade. Hezbollah also allegedly sought to get the ammonium nitrate via Syria, bringing in thousands of tons of it from Homs. Hezbollah sought to dominate the agriculture ministry in Lebanon since 2009 to get a hold of the material. (Read more)

6. BREAKING: Lebanon declares "state of emergency." Explosions leave 300,000 homeless. Damages could total $5 billion. Pope Francis and Evangelical leaders call for urgent prayer for people of Beirut. - Joel C. Rosenberg

Lebanese President Michel Aoun and his cabinet on Wednesday declared a "state of emergency," as the magnitude of the devastation in Beirut became more clear by the hour.

"The governor of Lebanon's Beirut, Marwan Abboud, said on Wednesday that the value of damages caused by the explosion which shook the capital ranges between $3 billion and $5 billion," reported Al-Arabiya, citing the Lebanese National News Agency.

"I think there are between 250,000 and 300,000 people who are now without homes," Abboud said. Hundreds of Beirut residents are still missing at this hour.

"Pope Francis has called on people to pray for Lebanon in the aftermath of Tuesday's deadly explosion," reported CNN.

Pray for the Election (Part One)

4 COMPELLING REASONS TO PRAY FOR THE ELECTION PROCESS

by Dave Butts, Chairman
National Prayer Committee

In every election cycle, American Christians have amazing opportunities sandwiched between grave dangers. We are privileged to be a part of a nation of people who have the responsibility to choose their own leaders.

For those believing that godly leaders are a source of blessing to a nation, elections provide us with great opportunity. However, when we begin to put our hope in leaders rather than in the Lord, we open ourselves to serious peril.

God's Word is very clear about having an undivided heart, trusting only in the Lord. King David, the mighty warrior, says, "Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God" (Ps. 20:7).

Awareness of this verse can create a tension in the thinking Christian. Some have overreacted and rejected the political process completely. Such people will be less motivated to pray over the elections. A balanced and biblical approach, however, allows us to fully participate in the electoral process without falling into improperly placed trust.

In Paul's teaching on prayer in 1 Timothy 2:1-4, one of the major thrusts is praying for those in authority. According to Paul's reasoning, we want good government that allows us to live "peaceful and quiet lives"-ultimately freeing us to evangelize those who are lost.

Paul would have been amazed that Christians could someday actually take part in selecting those leaders. I believe he would have been even more amazed (and appalled) that many of those Christians didn't even bother to get involved in selecting their leaders for the purposes of God to be fulfilled.

Praying for the electoral process is the first step in seeing the fulfillment of what Paul is writing about to Timothy. I don't believe we should wait for a leader to be selected before we move into obedient prayer for those in authority. In prayer, we invite the Lord into the process of electing those leaders who will ultimately allow us to lead "peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness" (v. 2).

So why pray for the elections? There are four compelling reasons:

- The Bible commands us to pray for those who are in leadership, which would include those who are vying to become leaders.

- Godly leaders can help slow the erosion of religious liberties in our land, providing an increased window of opportunity for the Church to pray and evangelize. The selection of leaders who understand and lead according to God's righteous standards can bring great blessing to a nation (Prov. 14:34).

- Scripture also says, "For lack of guidance a nation falls, but many advisors make victory sure" (Prov. 11:14).

- The determination of who leads our nation will also determine who advises that leader and how we are guided.

Pray for the Election (Part Two)

Are You Ready to Be the Answer to the Prayers You Pray?

By Kim Butts

It happens to all of us! We see a homeless person, come upon the scene of an accident . . . or hear of a family in financial need. Immediately, we may think to pray in each of these situations, "Lord, please help that person. Send someone to meet that need!" What if God wants to use you and your family to be the answer to your prayer? Are you prepared to back up your prayers with action if the Lord directs? I believe that our Father wants us to learn how to be the hands and feet of His Son to hurting or lost people.

Since Jesus lives in us we should consider as we pray what He would do to meet this need or help this person if He were physically present - because He is! He is physically present in the midst of every situation because He is incarnate - in us! Could this thought and realization change the way you respond to the prayers that you pray? Instead of thinking that you have done the right thing by praying and then moving along to the next activity of your day . . . do you need to take your prayer to the next level by listening to what the voice of the Spirit speaks to your heart? How many opportunities have we missed because we have not acted in response to the impulse of the Spirit urging us to make Jesus known in the midst of lives or situations?

I believe that many prayers we pray can be answered quickly and with amazing results if we become better listeners to the voice of the Holy Spirit. If we could learn to change our mindset as we pray, I believe we would be used of God in mighty ways to be His agents of transformation. Can you imagine how fulfilling and exciting your lives would be if your family would continually wait upon the Lord to see how He may want to use you to be the answer to prayers that you pray?

Updates: Tropical Storm Isaias

Tropical Storm Isaias caused 147 mph wind gust atop Mount Washington in New Hampshire

Whipping winds from Tropical Storm Isaias brought down trees and knocked out power for millions along the East Coast on Tuesday, with hurricane-strong gusts blasting atop Mount Washington in New Hampshire.

At least six people were killed as Isaias spawned tornadoes and dumped rain along the East Coast after making landfall as a hurricane in North Carolina, where it caused floods and fires that displaced dozens of people.

"One of the most damaging storms the Northeast has ever experienced," Fox News Senior Meteorologist Janice Dean said on "Fox & Friends First."

Two people died when Isaias spun off a tornado that struck a North Carolina mobile home park. Another person died in Pennsylvania when their vehicle was overtaken by water and swept downstream.

Two others were killed by falling trees toppled by the storm in Maryland and New York City, and a sixth person died in Delaware when a tree branch fell on them, authorities said.

The New York Fire Department said it responded to "numerous calls", including rescuing two people from a disabled boat in "zero visibility" in Queens. A video posted to Instagram shows a rescue boat being tossed in stormwaters.

The storm's fierce winds sent barriers meant to protect from flooding crashing into city streets in Lower Manhattan. (Fox News) Read more here.

About the Hymn:

I carried that song through two seasons of evangelistic work, never thinking it possessed much merit, or that it had the element of special usefulness, particularly for solo purposes.

It occurred to me to try it one day during the campaign in New Haven, [Connecticut,] 1878 and, with the help of Mrs. Stebbins, we sang it as a duet. To our surprise the song was received with the greatest enthusiasm and from that time on to the close of the meetings was the favorite of all the hymns used.

As an illustration of the hold it got upon the people all about that section of the country, I received a letter from the Secretary of the Connecticut State Sunday School Association offering me what seemed an absurdly large sum of money, if I would, with Mrs. Stebbins, come to the State Convention and sing that one song.

Signs and Wonders

Signs and Wonders

Home washed completely off its foundation by Hurricane Isaias

As night fell over Oak Island, North Carolina, Hurricane Isaias descended. Although light was fleeting, the fury of the storm roared through the night, declaring its arrival.

The first sign of danger for Burt Lea during Isaias was when the waves started hitting his house -- something that didn't happen when Hurricane Floyd blew through in 1999 and when other notorious hurricanes from years past came close.

Water started seeping through the floorboards, signaling that it was time to seek higher ground. Lea, having just undergone open-heart surgery two weeks prior, waded through waist-deep-and-rising storm surge to move his ex-wife, daughter and 2-year-old granddaughter to the neighboring, stilted house that the Pendegrass family is renting.

"We had to fight debris, debris was hitting us ... it was as bad as you can imagine," Lea recounted to AccuWeather reporter Jonathan Petramala. They passed by a floating pickup truck on their way to safety along with the floating RV parked under the stilted house. Shawn Pendegrass had to carry his own mother out of the RV and into the home, receiving the Lea family as well at the top of the steps.

"Trying to get them and the little girl Caroline over here, water was up to my shoulders having to swim them over here," Pendegrass said.

Most of his family safe at the stilted house, Lea returned to his home to rescue Puck, their hard-of-hearing, 13-year-old corgi. Minutes passed, the stilted home jolting each time the floating RV slammed into the foundation.

After an uncomfortable period of time, Shawn waded to the Lea house to find him. Around the front of the home, the surge and waves slammed against the structure, blocking any chance at entering through the front door. Wading around to the back where the house would block some of the force from the unrelenting waters, Pendegrass was able to break down the door and rescue the two from the flooding home.

The Lea and Pendegrass families rode out the storm in the stilted home, literally in the dark while chaos was raging around them. The wind howled, waves crashed and the house lurched with each hit to the foundation from the RV. The house was moving like a ship, Pendegrass said.

"I was pretty much ready to grab his boat because if the house went, I would have to load everybody on the boat," Pendegrass told Petramala, adding, "Yeah, that's how bad the house was moving."

'We Are Standing for the Cross': Christians Unite as Antifa Rioters Threaten to Tear Down Cross at Private College

Members of Antifa claim the cross is a racist symbol and they want it removed from the private campus of New Hope Christian College.

In a Facebook post, the college wrote that the cross embodies hope and the unconditional love from our Heavenly Father.

"The history of the cross and how it came to reside on our campus has been well documented over the years, and there is no evidence to suggest our cross has direct roots to racism other than it once resided on Skinner Butte, the same location where racist events were held in the 1920s. People referring to our cross as the 'KKK' cross is false."

The school says the cross was not around at that time and didn't even exist until many decades later. "From 1934-1964, wooden crosses were displayed on Skinner Butte; these crosses were not associated with the racist activities of the 1920s but simply powerful symbols of hope set high above the City of Eugene."

Members of the Christian community arrived at the college last Friday to pray for God's protection over the cross and against the enemy.

Tim Ravan with Global Connectors came to New Hope to join the prayer movement and support the college. He told CBN News that "without intercession...nothing happens."

"There is a strong core of people standing for what is right," he said. "This is Kingdom business and the Church has to be awakened. We are standing for the cross."

Ravan said hundreds of people gathered over the weekend, including non-believers who came to the cross just to thank everyone for their efforts.

"Cars were driving by, honking their horns and people were saying thank you," he added. "Non-believers were there to support the school."

"People were really responding, standing up, and doing something. This is really impacting the nation, it's a line in the sand," Ravan concluded.

"We worshipped for two hours in the midst of it," he said. "We had a safety and security team, the majority of us were at the cross worshipping and praising."

Even though activists did not deface the cross, Pastor Cordeiro said the college will "remain vigilant in case protesters come back."

About Capitol Hill Prayer Partners

Our Mission Statement

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (CHPP) is a ministry which is positioned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., helping members of the Body of Christ to "pray for those in authority over us" in our federal government. Our primary purpose is to offer intercession on site for the members of Congress and their staffs each day that the Senate and the House of Representatives are in session; and our chief prayer focus is that "God's will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." [Matthew 6:10].

Because Jesus Christ has shed His blood for all, we, too, pray for ALL, in a nonpartisan manner. Also, because the scriptures indicate that "the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 4:17), we are confident that fervent prayer, offered in the halls of the highest chambers of government in our land, can avail much for America. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners welcomes those who feel called to join us, engaging in this strategic work of intercession for our nation: "For there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God." [Romans 13:1]
