Reopening America, one step at a time!
President Trump announced two weeks ago that America had turned a corner in its war on the Coronavirus. "The battle continues," he said, "but the data suggests that nationwide we have passed the peak on new cases."
The next day, he unveiled guidelines for states to begin safely reopening our country.
At least 25 states have released formal reopening plans or criteria as of April 24. The rest have announced that such guidelines are forthcoming. President Trump's three-phased approach calls for governors to evaluate specific data around new cases, covid-like symptoms, and hospital capacity in their areas before deciding how to proceed.
The federal government has all hands on deck to help. On Monday, President Trump released a Testing Blueprint to assist states in implementing expanded testing and rapid response programs. This week, the President has already met with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards about reopening their states.
"What a job they've done," President Trump said of Louisiana's efforts to slow the spread of Coronavirus.
"We've obviously turned the corner in Louisiana-we're in a much, much better place than we thought was even possible five or six weeks ago," Gov. Edwards said. "That's because of our local partners and our Federal partners and hard work."
The Governor thanked President Trump for his Administration's response. "The field medical stations you provided, the Navy medical personnel that you sent to Louisiana, the testing that we had early was the key. And that has informed our testing strategy going forward," he said.
Other states are working hard to get Americans back to work, too. In Montana, Gov. Steve Bullock announced a phased reopening plan last week that reflects President Trump's criteria, including a multi-week decline in positive COVID-19 cases.
"The data is on our side, and President Trump has created a pathway to safely open up our country," Senior Advisor Jared Kushner told Fox News today.
President Trump Has Quickly Built the World's Most Effective Coronavirus Testing System
President Trump and his Administration quickly built the world's best testing system.

- The Federal government has worker with Thermo Fisher, LabCorp, Quest, U.S. Cotton, and the American Clinical Laboratory Association to increase testing capacity.
- Companies like CVS, Target, and Walmart have worked with the Trump Administration to facilitate drive-through testing.

Focus on Israel
1. Report: US prepared to recognize Israeli annexation of Judea and Samaria - Israel Hayom
US State Department official said that Washington was ready to recognize Israel's annexation of parts of Judea and Samaria, local media reported Monday. "As we have made consistently clear, we are prepared to recognize Israeli actions to extend Israeli sovereignty and the application of Israeli law to areas of the West Bank that the vision foresees as being part of the State of Israel," a US State Department spokesperson was quoted by The Times of Israel as saying.
According to the report, the move would be "in the context of the government of Israel agreeing to negotiate with the Palestinians along the lines set forth in President Trump's vision. The annexation would be in the context of an offer to the Palestinians to achieve statehood based upon specific terms, conditions, territorial dimensions and generous economic support. This is an unprecedented and highly beneficial opportunity for the Palestinians."
The Trump administration's "deal of the century" for peace in the Middle East was unveiled in January, and all but endorsed Israel's with to apply sovereignty to the large settlement blocs in Judea and Samaria as well as the Jordan Valley.
2. Israel will Gradually Return to School Next Week Amid Coronavirus Limitations - Jewish Press
Israel's education system will gradually return to activity on Sunday as the country slowly emerges from the Coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown and restrictions. The kindergartens and grades 1-3 will return to school and will learn in small groups and on alternating days. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu chaired on Monday a large meeting on the various alternatives for gradually returning the educational system to routine.
The reopening of educational institutions and kindergartens will depend on the Coronavirus morbidity data ahead of Sunday. An assessment will be held on Friday and final approval will be given for a gradual reopening of the education system in accordance with updated morbidity data and the findings of the Gertner report on infection among children.
3. Israel's coronavirus death toll up to 215 - YNET News
Israel's fatalities from COVID-19 have reached 215 on Wednesday evening according to the Health Ministry with 115 people in serious condition and 90 of those needing ventilators to assist their breathing.
A total of 15,834 people in Israel have contracted the virus since the outbreak of the pandemic.
There are 7,386 people currently ill with coronavirus 348 of them have been hospitalized, 4,395 are receiving care at home, 1,713 in dedicated coronavirus hotels, and 930 are awaiting a decision on where they are to be treated.
For the first time since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in Israel, the total number of Israelis who recovered from coronavirus exceeded the number of active patients, the Health Ministry reported on Wednesday.
4. Blue and White turns down Likud offer to take Health Ministry post - report - Times of Israel
Blue and White turned down a Likud offer to head the Health Ministry, Channel 12 reports.
The centrist party that said it had agreed to enter a Netanyahu government because of the pandemic turned down the deal because it would have required them to relinquish two mid-level ministerial posts, according to Channel 12.
Blue and White is only willing to give up two "minor" ministerial in exchange for the Health Ministry top job, which is currently held by United Torah Judaism's Yaakov Litzman who said he will be vacating the position to lead the Housing Ministry, Channel 12 says.
5. Israeli land lease at Tzofar under Jordanian peace deal ends Thursday - Jerusalem Post
Israeli farmers from Moshav Tzofar are scheduled to hold a small ceremony on Thursday afternoon to mark the end of a 25-year land lease from neighboring Jordan that had been set out under the terms of the 1994 peace deal between the two countries.
Members of IDF Division 80 and farmers from Tzofar are set to take part in the ceremony that will be held in accordance with COVID-19 restrictions.
Under an annex in the 1994 peace deal with Israel, a 25-year arrangement was reached in which land at Naharayim and Tzofar, which had been set to be returned to Jordan, remained in Israeli hands.
It was expected that after 25 years, the Hashemite Kingdom would extend the arrangement.
But in light of strained relations between Israel and Jordan, the Hashemite Kingdom ended the arrangement last year.
6. Inside story of the funeral of a NY rabbi, a COVID-19 victim, that went so wrong - Times of Israel
JTA - The images were striking, the mayor had strong words and the backlash was swift.
On Tuesday night, hundreds of Orthodox Jews gathered for a rabbi's funeral in Brooklyn, showing apparent disregard of public social distancing guidelines. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio issued a tweet in which he addressed "the Jewish community," saying "the time for warnings has passed" and announcing that the police would be arresting or issuing summonses to those who gather in large groups.
Jewish leaders and others said the mayor used language that singled out the entire Jewish community, which by and large has complied with social distancing guidelines.
On Wednesday, de Blasio stood by his warnings of police action against social distancing violators but expressed remorse over the tone of his tweets.

1. Trump: I Was Told Coronavirus Would 'Blow Over' in February - NewsMax
President Donald Trump defended his early response to the coronavirus outbreak, saying Tuesday that he was told late in February that it wouldn't be a problem.
"Even professionals like Anthony were saying this is no problem," Trump told reporters in a White House meeting with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Tuesday, referring to the government's top infectious disease specialist, Anthony Fauci.
"This is late in February. This is no problem," he said. "This is going to blow over."
The Washington Post reported Monday that Trump was repeatedly warned in his daily intelligence briefing in January and February - a document the paper said he seldom reads - that the virus posed a threat to the U.S. (Read more)

2. WH Adviser: China Knew What Was Coming, Stockpiled Masks Before World Learned COVID Dangers - Western Journal
In an appearance on "Fox & Friends" Monday, White House trade adviser and China hawk Peter Navarro said Beijing had "vacuumed up" masks and personal protective equipment before the communist country let the world know how dangerous the coronavirus is. During the appearance, Navarro also said that China was exporting low-quality antibody tests.
"That's where, perhaps, we can find people who are immune, that can be in the workplace in a more safe environment. But we can't have China, for example, bringing in those fake tests and counterfeit tests, because that's going to be very disruptive," Navarro said, according to Reuters. "There's a lot of these antibody tests coming in from China now that are low quality, false readings and things like that," Navarro told "Fox & Friends." (Read more)

3. Harvard professor blasts homeschooling: 'Dangerous' for parents to have 'authoritarian control over their children' - The Blaze
Featured in an article for Harvard Magazine, Elizabeth Bartholet - Wasserstein public interest professor of law and faculty director of the Law School's Child Advocacy Program - argued that homeschooling for children is simply a means for depriving children of any "meaningful education."
She pointed out that children are missing out on the experience of a public education and will likely not be able to contribute to a democratic society because of their lack of such an experience and such "detrimental" isolation.
"The issue is, do we think that parents should have 24/7, essentially authoritarian control over their children from ages zero to 18?" she asked. "I think that's dangerous. I think it's always dangerous to put powerful people in charge of the powerless, and to give the powerful ones total authority." (Read more)

4. Josh McDowell Warns that the Pandemic Could Increase Loneliness, Depression, Porn Use-Christian headlines - Christian Headlines
McDowell, author of Evidence that Demands a Verdict and other books aimed at helping Christians to defend and share their faith, claims that before the pandemic, "three top themes in mental health that were reaching epidemic proportion were: 1) Pornography addiction, 2) Loneliness, and 3) Anxiety, depression, as well as other issues.
These themes have been true globally in nearly every culture." He then expressed his concern that "The COVID-19 lockdown will not pacify any of the three previous epidemics. Isolation will only exacerbate anxiety, depression, pornography addiction, loneliness and mental health problems."
He fears the pandemic will only accelerate issues related to loneliness and isolation. He said that the period after the pandemic will be, "a time characterized by intense anxiety, depression, loneliness and other mental health issues." He said that this will be especially true with college students, two-thirds of whom already reported feeling "very lonely." He added, "that can be as hard on your health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. Loneliness can also lead to higher rates of death, illness, injury, smoking, obesity and high blood pressure." 5. The pandemic is messing with our concept of time - CNN
It's become a common refrain during the coronavirus pandemic, a reflection of both how all of the days seem to blur together and how lately, we find ourselves forgetting even the simplest of details.
Our internal clocks are shot. Tuesdays are Thursdays are Wednesdays are Sundays. There are no weekdays, or weekends. There is only yesterday, today and tomorrow.
Along with these feelings of disorientation, it may seem like it's getting harder to concentrate and taking longer to complete tasks, as if our brains are just working more slowly. If it feels like your brain is turning into mush, you're not alone. Experts say it all has to do with how the pandemic is affecting our cognitive health - meaning, our ability to clearly think, learn and remember.
"It is a perfect storm between changes in environment, loss of social anchors and increases in cognitive stress," said Elissa Epel, a professor of psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco. "And then on top of that, most of us are not getting the quality sleep that we used to."

6. US doctors claim that Trump's controversial hydroxychloroquine drug DOES help 91% of coronavirus patients - Daily Mail
The malaria drug hydroxychloroquine has improved the survival and recovery odds for about 90 percent of patients treated with the controversial medication, a physicians group claims.
The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) presented data on 2,333 patients treated with hydroxychloroquine - including two supervised by Dr Oz - across the globe that shows 91.6 percent of those who got the drug fared better after treatment.
In a letter to Arizona Governor Doug Ducey, the group urged that doctors should not wait for results of gold standard tests of the drug to start using it in coronavirus patients and should instead base their use of it on reasonable interpretations of limited available data. (Read more)

7. Minnesota doctor questions coronavirus death toll, claims 'influenza deaths . . . have been called COVID-19' - Fox News
Dr. Scott Jensen, a Minnesota family physician and Republican state senator, told "The Ingraham Angle" Tuesday that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines for doctors to certify whether a patient has died of coronavirus are a "mess" and predicted that some fatalities initially reported to be COVID-19-related would be reclassified.
"We both know," Jensen told host Laura Ingraham, "that there have been influenza deaths, influenza cases, that have been called COVID-19 [deaths] because nobody bothered to swab their throats. If you want to find out what the data is, I don't care if they're dead or alive, swab them. We can always run a test later and then actually get real information."
Earlier this month, Jensen told Ingraham that under the CDC guidelines, a patient who died after being hit by a bus and tested positive for coronavirus would be listed as having presumed to have died from the virus regardless of whatever damage was caused by the bus. (Read more)

8. Meat and poultry industry groups applaud Trump for keeping processing plants open - The Hill
The meat and poultry industry praised President Trump on Tuesday evening after he signed an executive order using the Defense Production Act to order food processing plants to stay open.
The National Chicken Council (NCC), which represents about 95 percent of the chicken produced in the U.S., including Tyson Foods, Perdue and Sanderson Farms, said the industry was "grateful" Trump made the decision.
"While doing everything we can to keep employees safe and healthy, the biggest challenge has been inconsistencies among the states and many localities in enforcing CDC guidelines in plants that add to confusion and can lead to unnecessary shutdowns. This patchwork approach is posing grave risk to the supply chain and threatening great disruption to NCC member companies," President Mike Brown said in a statement, referring to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. 9. McConnell draws 'red line' on coronavirus bill: It won't pass without 'liability protection' - The Hill
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Tuesday that the next coronavirus bill has to include liability protections for employers or it will not pass the Senate.
"My red line going forward on this bill is we need to provide protection, litigation protection, for those who have been on the front lines. We can't pass another bill unless we have liability protection," McConnell said during an interview on Fox News, calling the additional legal protections a "condition" for the bill.
The remarks from McConnell come as lawmakers are jockeying over the next coronavirus relief package, which would be the fifth bill passed by Congress aimed at addressing fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic. (Read more)

10. Judge orders Michael Flynn's former attorneys to execute another search for documents after new trove discovered - Washington Examiner
The federal judge presiding over retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn's case issued a surprise order telling the former national security adviser's previous attorneys to conduct another search of their entire case archive after it was revealed they failed to turn thousands of documents over to Flynn's new defense team.
The ruling by Judge Emmet Sullivan was made public after Robert Kelner and Stephen Anthony, Flynn's former lawyers at the powerhouse firm Covington & Burling, claimed there were 6,800 records they had only just now unearthed and turned over to Flynn's current defense team, which has been led by former federal prosecutor Sidney Powell since July 2019.
A seven-page filing from the Covington attorneys was unsealed, showing that Kelner and Anthony had just transferred thousands of documents that they had been sitting on for almost a year to Powell and Flynn's new team. Earlier in April, Covington admitted it failed to transfer a number of emails and two handwritten notes over to Powell, but Tuesday showed that this was just the tip of the iceberg. (Read more)

11. China military lashes out at US warship's 'intrusion' in South China Sea - scmp.com
The Chinese military has accused an American guided-missile destroyer of "intruding into Chinese territory waters" near the Beijing-controlled Paracel Islands, saying the "provocative act" violated Chinese sovereignty.
The People's Liberation Army's Southern Theatre Command said the USS Barry destroyer intruded into "waters around the Paracel Islands without permission" on Tuesday, prompting the command to scramble air and sea patrols to "track, monitor, verify, identify and expel" it.
The warning came as Taiwanese media reported that the American vessel sailed through the Taiwan Strait twice in this month, followed both times by PLA warships.
"These provocative acts by the US side . . . have seriously violated China's sovereignty and security interests, deliberately increased regional security risks and could easily trigger an unexpected incident," a statement posted on the military unit's WeChat social media account quoted Li Huamin, a command spokesman, as saying. Socially acceptable hatemongering
It was the liberal left that wanted all hate speech banned, yet they demonstrate hate on a daily basis. Over just the past two days, here is some of what people are saying about those with whom they disagree: Rutgers Associate Professor of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Brittney Cooper, "F**K each and every Trump Supporter." Hollywood Filmmaker Rob Reiner, "For 3+ years, there's been a cancer on this Presidency. But this cancer has spread throughout America." On Vice President Mike Pence not wearing a mask while visiting Mayo Clinic, actress Kristen Johnston sarcastically tweeted: "Jesus is his vaccine." Filmmaker Judd Apatow tweeted: "If they do not lose in a landslide our country has lost its mind."
Former Obama administration deputy national security advisor Ben Rhodes said, "No terrorist could ever kill 50,000 Americans. It's impossible, right?... with Trump it's almost like this ghoulish numbers game in an effort to make sure someone looks good or bad." House Judiciary Committee chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY): "The president is trying to impose artificial politically motivated deadlines so that the economy can look good before the third quarter for the election, but if that happens, we'll simply get a lot - thousands and thousands of more people dead, and we can't do that." House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), "I have ice cream in my freezer. I guess that's better than having Lysol in somebody's lungs as he [Trump] is suggesting."
Drexel University professor Robert Zaller, "We are fighting not one plague now, but two...[Trump] has been responsible for 90 percent of Coronavirus deaths in the country, he will surely cause many more." New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, "My message to the Jewish community, and all communities, is this simple: the time for warnings has passed. I have instructed the NYPD to proceed immediately to summons or even arrest those who gather in large groups." MSNBC, anchor Nicolle Wallace: ""So the president and vice president have really revealed themselves as this wacky combination of conspiracy theorists, quack medical proponents and truthers."
And finally, this tweet from Comedian Billy Eichner referring to Trump supporters and conservatives: "I hate these people. Hate. HATE!!!!!!!!!" These quotes are just in the past two days. In the context of each vile criticism, not one, I'll write that again, NOT ONE suggestion on how to make things better. Just tearing people down with hateful and spiteful words. Some hate-filled person says it. A hate-filled media person reports it, then it lodges in some hate-filled heart. As 2 Timothy 2:16 says, "But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. And their word will eat as does a canker." This is not how we come together as a nation to defeat a deadly threat. Remember who you are and who you serve that you might be that light in the darkness of these perilous times.

Dancing black holes create mega flare brighter than one trillion stars
In the OJ 287 galaxy, about 3.5 billion light-years from Earth, two black holes are trapped in an endless dance. The supermassive black hole at the center of the galaxy is about 18 billion times more massive than the sun -- one of the largest black holes we have ever found. It's dancing partner, much smaller but still huge, is only 150 million times more massive than the sun.
Every 12 years, the smaller dancer crashes through a huge disk of debris swirling around the supermassive black hole. When it does so, it creates an explosion of light we can visualize from back on Earth because its brighter than one trillion stars. A mega flare. This epic animation below, from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, captures the phenomenon perfectly.
But the dance is kind of awkward.
The smaller black hole doesn't have perfect timing. It crashes through the disk at irregular intervals because of its oblong orbit, making it hard for scientists to watch for exactly when the next explosion of light might occur. So in 2010, a team of researchers set out to create a model to predict when they might next see the next mega flare. Their model correctly predicted the appearance of a flare to within three weeks.
Then in 2018, scientists from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Mumbai, India, were able to refine the model to predict the next flare would peak on July 31, 2019. They wrote that if they could observe the flare it might give them a good chance to test the "no-hair theorem", which posits black holes are smooth and symmetrical.
A new study, published in the Astrophysical Journal Letters on Tuesday, demonstrates the scientists' predictions for when the flare would occur were right on the money -- and fortunately NASA's Spitzer telescope was looking at OJ 287 at just the right time.
"When I first checked the visibility of OJ 287, I was shocked to find that it became visible to Spitzer right on the day when the next flare was predicted to occur," said Seppo Laine, an associate staff scientist on Spitzer based at Caltech, in a release. Notably, Spitzer, which was retired in January this year, was the only telescope with a clear view of the galaxy at the time of the flare.
"It was extremely fortunate that we would be able to capture the peak of this flare with Spitzer, because no other human-made instruments were capable of achieving this feat at that specific point in time," said Laine.

Brilliant: Israel's Ingenious 'Zero Exposure' Corona Test Kiosks, and Heartwarming 'Hugging Booths'
Israel's unique Covid-19 testing kiosks in Israel let testers take samples without putting on expensive and uncomfortable personal protective equipment (PPE). Dozens of these units were designed and manufactured by I.M. Segev Industries in collaboration with engineering and medical personnel at Maccabi Health Services, one of the four Israeli national health-maintenance organizations.
HMO members swipe their membership card on a reader attached to the booth so that results are reported directly to their electronic health record.
The Maccabi Covid-19 testing booth ensures zero exposure between patient and tester.
After the oral sample is taken with the worker's hands enveloped in rubber gloves attached to the unit, the gloves are disinfected. This allows a quick turnaround for the next test.
"We would be happy to share our concept with any health organization worldwide in order to support our shared mission of fighting the Covid-19 virus," said Ran Sa'ar, CEO of Maccabi.
The Israeli Association of Manufacturers made the connection between Maccabi and I.M. Segev. Additional booths have since been manufactured by I.M. Segev for HMOs Meuhedet and Clalit.
