WHO investigators finally allowed into lab at center of COVID-19 controversy
Following more than a year of delays imposed by the Chinese government, a World Health Organization team probing the origin of the coronavirus visited the suspect Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) on Wednesday. The WHO virology experts toured the secure laboratory at the Institute that the State Department believes was one of two potential sources for a leak of the virus that has killed more than 2 million people in the global pandemic.
Another theory is that the virus was transmitted to a host animal and spread to humans at a Wuhan wild animal market. Investigators, however, have been unable to identify the possible host animal.
The WHO team also met with the laboratory’s senior virology expert, Shi Zengli, who has been dubbed the “Batwoman of Wuhan” for her extensive research on bat coronaviruses similar to the virus that causes Covid. “Extremely important meeting today with staff at WIV including Dr Shi Zhengli. Frank, open discussion. Key questions asked & answered,” wrote team member Peter Daszak on Twitter.
. . . The State Department disclosed the first circumstantial evidence linking the WIV to Covid in a report made public Jan. 15. China’s military is suspected of having a covert biological weapons program, according to a State Department report made public last year.
“Despite the WIV presenting itself as a civilian institution, the United States has determined that the WIV has collaborated on publications and secret projects with China’s military,” the report said. “The WIV has engaged in classified research, including laboratory animal experiments, on behalf of the Chinese military since at least 2017.” (Read more)

1. UN: Iran, breaching deal, installs 2nd batch of advanced centrifuges at Natanz - Times of Israel
Iran has continued to ramp up its nuclear program in violation of its 2015 agreement with world powers by further enriching uranium and installing new centrifuges, the United Nations’ nuclear agency said.
The fresh breaches of the nuclear deal came as tensions continued to climb in the Middle East, and US and Israeli officials issued warnings about Iran’s nuclear program.
The International Atomic Energy Agency — in a confidential report obtained by Reuters and published Tuesday — said Iran has begun enriching uranium in its underground Natanz plant with a second cascade, or cluster, of centrifuges,.
Iran recently installed a second cascade of advanced IR-2m centrifuges at Natanz to enrich uranium and will soon add a third. Iran was only allowed to use a less advanced type of centrifuge under the terms of the nuclear deal. (Read more)
2. Netanyahu: Goal to vaccinate 90% of people over 50 - Israel National News
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu set a goal of expanding the vaccination campaign in the coming days, with an emphasis on those aged 50 and over.
"We are in the middle of a race between the vaccination campaign and the mutation," Netanyahu said Tuesday evening. "The vaccination campaign is our key to the plan to get out of the corona crisis. The mutation is hitting the whole world."
"We have also encountered the mutation. A few days ago it was about 70% of our total samples, and today it is about 80%. A huge spread," he explained. (Read more)
3. Israeli Treatment for Severe Cases of COVID-19 Shows Excellent Results in Phase 2 Trials - Algemeiner
An Israeli treatment for patients suffering from severe cases of Covid-19 showed excellent results in its Phase 2 trials.
Israeli news site N12 reported that Israeli company Enlivex Therapeutics announced the results of the trials of its drug Allocetra on Wednesday.
Allocetra is intended to prevent the immune system from overreacting to the presence of a virus, a phenomenon referred to as a “cytokine storm,” which can cause more damage to the patient than the virus itself.
The trial was conducted on 16 patients, nine in serious condition and seven in critical condition. After 28 days of treatment, none of the patients have died, and 14 have been released from the hospital. The other two remain on supplementary oxygen in intensive care. The average time required for the treated patients to recover sufficiently to be discharged was 5.3 days. (Read more)

Blue and White submitted its slate to the Knesset today (Wednesday), represented by Minister Penina Tamano Shata, faction chairman, MK Eitan Ginzburg, and MK Yael Ron Ben Moshe. Its ballot ticket will bear the Hebrew letters spelling the word “KEN” (YES).

After these elections, we will make sure that the government that forms will consist of honest people, who will rehabilitate the economy and Israeli society after the damage wrought by the pandemic and by Bibi.”
“We’re here today to submit Blue and White’s slate to the Knesset", Minister Penina Tamano Shata said in the Knesset, "I am proud to be part of an honest team that will continue to fight for the Israeli public with integrity, rather than by manipulation. 5. Facebook draws ire after employee says site could police term ‘Zionists’ - Times of Israel
JTA — A leaked email written by a Facebook employee hints that the social media giant may review its policy on allowing the term “Zionist,” and pro-Palestinian groups argue that such a move would endanger free speech on Israel issues.
In the email dated Nov. 10, the unidentified employee wrote to an unidentified source: “We are looking at the question of how we should interpret attacks on ‘Zionists’ to determine whether the term is used as a proxy for attacking Jewish or Israeli people. The term brings with it much history and various meanings, and we are looking to increase our understanding of how it is used by people on our platform.”
In a version of the email reported on Sunday by The Verge, the names of both the sender and recipient were redacted.
Since last week, the anti-Zionist group Jewish Voice For Peace has circulated a petition opposing any change to Facebook’s policy on allowing use of the word Zionist. Its signers include an array of prominent voices such as Michael Chabon, Peter Gabriel, Wallace Shawn, Noam Chomsky and Linda Sarsour. (Read more)

1. Biden signs three immigration orders in latest move to reverse key Trump policies - Fox News
President Biden on Tuesday signed three executive orders on immigration, including one to create a task force to reunify migrants separated under the Trump administration -- part of a sweeping push by Biden to roll back his predecessor’s immigration policies.
"I’m not making new law, I'm eliminating bad policy," Biden said from the Oval Office. "What I'm doing is taking on the issues that, 99 percent of them, that the last President of the United States issued executive orders I thought were very counterproductive to our security, counterproductive to who we are as a country, particularly in the area of immigration."
One of the orders will create a task force to push forward with the reunification of migrants who were separated from family members at the border during the Trump administration via the "zero tolerance" policy.
Former acting Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Mark Morgan told Fox News on Tuesday that the move was "another significant step reinstating incentives for and loopholes to be exploited by migrants to enter our country illegally." (Read more)

2. Biden is Putting Migrant Kids in Cages And Now ‘AOC’ Doesn’t Care - The National Pulse
Joe Biden is re-opening a child migrant detention center, but neither the establishment media nor left-wing politicians appear to care. The response is starkly different from when President Trump operated the detention centers he inherited from the Obama-Biden administration.
The move is said to be a direct result of the relaxation of border enforcement, a stunning admission made in CNN reports.
A recent article states: The Biden administration is opening an overflow facility for unaccompanied migrant children apprehended at the US-Mexico border, the federal agency tasked with the children’s care told CNN in a statement. The Health and Human Services Department will reopen a facility in Carrizo Springs, Texas, that can accommodate about 700 children and can be expanded if necessary.
The reopening of the facility comes amid an increase in apprehensions of unaccompanied children on the Southwest border, fueled in part by deteriorating conditions in Latin America and a perceived possible relaxation of enforcement, and reduced capacity limits at other facilities due to Covid-19. It also comes as President Joe Biden rolls out new immigration executive orders tackling migration to the US southern border.
The silence from the national, establishment media as well as Democrats on Capitol Hill has been notable.
Once known for crying at a fence overlooking a parking lot, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has – at the time of publication – said nothing about Biden’s new move to “put kids in cages.” (Read more)

3. NY Senate Democrats block subpoena for COVID-19 nursing home death data - New York Post
Democrats who control the state Senate blocked a motion Monday to subpoena records of the Cuomo administration seeking a fuller accounting of nursing home residents who died from the coronavirus.
The motion was made by Sen. Thomas O’Mara, the ranking Republican on the Investigations Committee panel during a virtual meeting.
The GOP motion to compel the state Health Department to release records came just days after Attorney General Letitia James issued a blistering report that found Gov. Andrew Cuomo and his health agency withheld an accurate count of the number of nursing home residents who died from COVID-19 by some 50 percent by excluding residents who died after being take to hospitals. 4. Georgia secretary of state opens investigation into Lin Wood over illegal voting allegations - The Hill
Georgia’s secretary of state office has opened an investigation into whether pro-Trump attorney Lin Wood voted illegally in the November election.
ABC’s Atlanta affiliate station, WSB-TV, first reported the investigation into Wood, which Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger's (R) office later confirmed to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, NPR and other news outlets.
The investigation comes after Wood became one of the most prominent legal voices in former President Trump’s campaign to overturn election results in key states over unsubstantiated claims of widespread voter fraud. (Read more)

5. Alejandro Mayorkas becomes first Latino, first immigrant to lead Department of Homeland Security - USA Today
Alejandro Mayorkas was confirmed by the Senate Tuesday and will become the first immigrant and first Latino to lead the Department of Homeland Security.
Despite opposition from Senate Republicans, Mayorkas secured enough votes for confirmation, by a 56-43 vote. It was one the closest votes for any of President Joe Biden's nominees thus far.
Biden had asked for speedy confirmation of his national security nominees as he filled his Cabinet, but Senate Republicans had objected to Mayorkas' confirmation, citing concerns about how he settled disputes in a visa program during a previous post in the department, delaying the process.
The Department of Homeland Security is responsible for counterterrorism, cybersecurity, border security, enforcement of the United States' immigration laws and more. As DHS Secretary, Mayorkas will lead a task force on family separation, focused largely on reuniting migrant parents and their children who remain apart. (Read more)

6. House Republicans introduce bill to reauthorize Keystone XL pipeline - Washington Examiner
Several House Republicans and Senate members are pushing to revive the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline after President Biden signed an executive order nixing the project in January.
Rep. Kelly Armstrong of North Dakota introduced a bill alongside 83 GOP congressional members that would authorize construction and operation of the Keystone XL pipeline and declare that a presidential permit is not required.
“President Biden's decision to revoke the Keystone XL Pipeline permit is an attack on the way of life for thousands of people who rely on energy production to feed their families,” Armstrong penned in a readout introducing the Keystone XL Pipeline Construction and Jobs Preservation Act. (Read more)

7. Work stops at one of the biggest border wall construction sites - Washington Examiner
Construction crews are packing up after coming within 1 mile of finishing a roughly 90-mile border wall project outside El Paso, Texas.
Ten days after President Biden halted the Trump administration's border fence projects, workers are slowly closing down the massive job site. Driving on dirt roads through the construction project, the rancher whose property this site is located on says most machinery and workers have been shipped out. It still looks as if it will take several more weeks to sort everything out.
“This is absolutely dead. Prior to inauguration, this place was hopping," said Russell Johnson, whose family has lived and raised cattle on a strip of land that runs against 8.5 miles of the southern border for more than a century. (Read more)

8. Fla.’s DeSantis Moves to Limit Big Tech in Censorship, ‘Political Manipulation’ - Newsmax
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Tuesday proposed a law that would combat big tech’s “censorship" of right-wing political candidates and blasted the "monopoly of communications platforms" that "monitor and control" Floridians.
The legislation will target Facebook, Twitter, Google, Amazon, and Apple, according to Florida House Speaker Chris Sprowls.
"What began as a group of upstart technology companies from the west coast, has since transformed into an industry of monopoly communications platforms that monitor, influence, and control the flow of information in our country and among our citizens," DeSantis said during a press conference at the State Capitol in Tallahassee.
"These platforms have played an increasingly decisive role in elections and have negatively impacted Americans who descend from orthodoxies favored by the big tech cartel," he added. (Read more)

10. Biden orders USS Nimitz aircraft carrier home in possible signal to Iran - Jerusalem Post
The United States aircraft carrier USS Nimitz, known for anchoring US power in the Middle East, has been ordered back home, US Naval Institute News said citing American officials.
The move was seen as a possible signal to Iran to deescalate tensions amid efforts by the Biden administration to open negotiations on a new nuclear deal.
Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin instructed the carrier and the 5,000 sailors and Marines of its strike group to return home after being deployed for over 240 days.
. . . Just prior to the beginning of the year, the Nimitz was ordered to come "directly" home by the acting US Acting Secretary of Defense Chris Miller. Ninety-six hours later, the carrier got another order to “halt its routine redeployment” and remain in the area of US Central Command following threats from Tehran on the anniversary of the killing of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Commander Qasem Soleimani.
Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mike Gilday noted that the US intends to keep a presence in the region, although it is unclear which carrier strike group will replace the Nimitz. According to US Naval Institute News, it will be replaced by the USS Eisenhower, which is currently in training to deploy off the east coast, and the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group – operating alongside a squadron of Marine F-35B Lightning II Joint Strike Fighters – which is currently operating of the coast of Somalia.
A US naval aircraft carrier is a big fist that the US can deploy in case of any problems with Tehran. Iran has been threatening the US with retaliation, putting its IRGC fast boats and rowboat-like navy on alert in the Persian Gulf.
A US aircraft carrier could destroy Iran’s navy in an afternoon if called upon to do so. What worries Washington is militia attacks by Iran’s proxies in Iraq or Yemen, or some kind of attack in the Gulf like the one in 2019 on Saudi Arabia. (Read more)

Stupidocrisy: Historic Erasure

This week the Stupidocrisy acknowledgment goes to the San Francisco School Board for “cancelling” the Founding Fathers and other historical figures as names of various district schools for being white supremacists, racists, and other references to American history. Many of the names, which include Abraham Lincoln, Paul Revere, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and others, were removed because of the board’s “perception” rather than historical fact. For example, board members admitted they didn’t know if Roosevelt Middle School was named after Theodore or Franklin Delano, so to be safe they just voted to remove the name. And Abraham Lincoln, well, he just didn’t do enough for Native Americans.
The School Board took the eraser to historic figures, but didn’t consider the history. As Forbes reports, “Paul Revere’s name is being banished because he was a commander in the Penobscot Expedition of 1779, which supposedly “is directly connected to the colonization of the Penobscot [Indians]”. On the contrary, the Penobscot Expedition was a disastrously failed military assault on a British Fort in what is now Maine.” George Washington owned slaves, so he got cancelled. Lincoln was erased because the Board falsely concluded that Lincoln was behind the execution of 38 Dakota Indians for their atrocities in the US-Dakota War. Lincoln was not responsible for their executions AND he actually commuted the death sentences of the vast majority of Dakota Indians because they didn’t get fair trials.
Even references to Thanksgiving were banned because of the patently false revisionist narrative that the Pilgrims massacred Indians, stole their food and drove them off their land. Senator Dianne Feinstein, (D-CA), got cancelled because the Board can’t have a school named after a Senator who in 1984 replaced a vandalized Confederate flag that was part of a historic display at San Francisco City Hall. According to the Board, Feinstein must be punished for cultural incompetency. This Board’s level of incompetence is extraordinary when one considers that these Board members are responsible for implementing the policies and philosophies of how children in San Francisco are educated. Their example to academia demonstrates the height of stupidity and hyprocrisy—stupidocrisy.
But it is even worse. This is how an entire nation has been moved away from the Godly values and common sense to the ignorance, academic laziness, and ideological bigotry we are seeing every day in this nation. I was once told by a civil rights activist that to end racism, the history of American society must be deconstructed and banished. The problem with this wrong-mindedness is that if we do not know who we are and where we came from, we are destined to repeat the same mistakes of the past and unable to perfect the successes for the future. It leads to tyranny and despotism. Truly, the past is prologue, no matter how bad or good, we need to know it. Proverbs 24:16 says, “For a just man falls seven times, and rises up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.” And that is the fate of practicing stupidocrisy—like the SF School Board.

South China Sea: War fears EXPLODE as Chinese jets simulate missile attack on US carrier
The incident took place amid reported incursions into the airspace of neighbouring Taiwan. A source from US and allied intelligence told the FT the Chinese aircraft remained more than 250 nautical miles from the US carrier and accompanying warships.
Beijing regards Taiwan, formed by the losing anti-communist side of the 1927-49 Chinese civil war, as an integral part of its territory. However the island is an American ally and has been strengthening its ties with the US over the past few years.
Chinese combat jets made two recent incursions into Taiwanese territory on January 23 and 24.
Analysts suggest the moves, which took place just days after Joe Biden’s inauguration, were designed to test the new US president. The first incursion consisted of 11 warplanes whilst 15 took part in the second. An American carrier battle group, formed around USS Theodore Roosevelt, is also in the area. At least one abducted Chibok girl free from Boko Haram captivity in Nigeria
Witney, England, (ANS) – At least one of the schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram seven years ago from the town of Chibok – in northeast Nigeria – has escaped captivity, according to Christian persecution watchdog Open Doors UK and Ireland. According to the charity’s sources, other captives – not necessarily from Chibok – may also have escaped but the total number of those free are not yet known. “One of the Chibok girls who has escaped was able to speak to her father over the phone and has been clearly identified,” said Illia Djadi, Open Doors senior analyst on freedom of religion and belief in sub-Saharan Africa.
Amid conflicting reports, the new Chief of Defence Staff of the Nigerian Army, Major General Lucky Irabor has said that the military did not have any Chibok girls among those who escaped Boko Haram captivity during recent army operations in the Sambisa Forest. However, Open Doors sources on the ground have confirmed that at least one Chibok schoolgirl, Hauwa Halima Maigana, along with an unknown number of other captives, are now free from Boko Haram captivity.
Henrietta Blyth, the CEO of Open Doors UK and Ireland, said: “The news of girls escaping from Boko Haram – including the schoolgirl from Chibok – is a ray of hope that others still in captivity may regain their freedom too. “The abduction of the Chibok girls seven years ago was a painful illustration of the fact that women are especially vulnerable to persecution in Nigeria because of both their faith and gender. “Even after escape, their painful journey is normally not yet over – they need to reintegrate into their community and cope with the trauma of their captivity.”
In April 2014 Boko Haram fighters ambushed a state boarding school for girls in the northeastern Nigerian town of Chibok. The Islamist militants kidnapped 276 – mostly Christian – students and drove them to their hideout in the Sambisa Forest. While some managed to escape captivity, at least 100 have not, as yet, been unaccounted for. (ASSIST News) Read more.
