The Israeli government has released the first photograph of the two American hostages, a mother and daughter, since their release on Friday by the Hamas terrorists who held them captive in Gaza.
The photo shows 59-year-old Judith Tai Raanan and her 17-year-old daughter, Natalie Raanan, being escorted by Israeli soldiers on Friday, following their release by Hamas, which continues to hold an estimated 200 men, women, and children hostage, including ten Americans. Gal Hirsch, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s special coordinator for returning the hostages, is seen in the photo holding the hands of the freed Americans.
Judith, a aesthetician from Evanston, Illinois, and Natalie, a recent graduate of Deerfield High School, were in Israel to visit their family members at Kibbutz Nahal Oz for the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah, when they were kidnapped by Hamas during the surprise attack on October 7.
Judith’s sister told Time magazine the events surround her sister and niece’s kidnapping:
Saturday morning, we woke up to a devastating war. There were 150 terrorists in the kibbutz. I was in touch with [Natalie and Judith] through WhatsApp messages, because everybody there was told not to speak over the phone, or just whisper. The last message was at 12:18. Natalie wrote that they’re hearing shots, and they’re in the security room. And they’re OK and they love us. That was the last signal of life we had from them. They stopped answering me.
During his Friday press briefing, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken welcomed the release of the two Americans, saying that he “shares in the relief that their families, friends, and loved ones are feeling.” However, Blinken also noted that “there are still 10 additional Americans who remain unaccounted for in this conflict,” among the estimated 200 still held by Hamas.
The Israeli government reported on X (formerly Twitter) that the Raanans are being escorted to an army base in central Israel where members of their family are waiting to greet them. The Raanans were transported from Gaza to Israel by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) which helped facilitate their release. In a statement Friday, the ICRC said it remains “ready to visit the remaining hostages and to facilitate any future release following an agreement reached by the parties.” (Breitbart) Read more here |

Gallant sets main IDF priority in Gaza: Eliminate all Hamas capabilities

The Israeli defense minister outlined Jerusalem's goals for the war against Hamas, including "the creation of a new security reality in the region."

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant met on Friday with members of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee to outline Jerusalem’s goals for the war against Hamas.
He detailed the objectives of the campaign, including the elimination of Hamas, and the destruction of both its military and governing capabilities; the complete removal of Israeli responsibility from the Gaza Strip; and the creation of a new security reality in the region.
“There will be three stages. We are now in the first stage—a military campaign that currently includes strikes, and will later include maneuvering, with the objective of neutralizing terrorists and destroying Hamas infrastructure,” said Gallant during the meeting.
“The second phase, an intermediate one, will require operations at a lower intensity, with the objective of eliminating ‘pockets of resistance’ (remaining terror hot spots),” continued the defense minister.
“The third phase will require the removal of Israel’s responsibility for life in the Gaza Strip and the establishment of a new security reality for the citizens of Israel,” he added.

The chaotic, convoluted path House Republicans took to elect a speaker leads back to square one

Republicans are having difficulty in an effort to elect a new speaker of the House, a process that has taken three weeks
|
|
The shortest distance between two points is a straight line, but in their effort to elect a House speaker, Republicans have taken a more tortured route.
I’ve always said that the essence of Congress is "the math." The math is rather simple. Republicans need an outright majority of the entire House — voting by name — to elect someone as speaker. But since they can’t balance the equation after nearly three weeks, the House has devolved into a state of unsolvable political algebra.
If nothing else, House Republicans have been consistent about one thing the past few weeks: Whatever the plan is, they will alter the strategy 180 degrees a few hours later.
The magic number to prevail as speaker morphs with each roll call vote. It’s contingent on how many members are there and vote for a candidate by name. The speaker must win an outright majority of the ballots being cast.
A cavalcade of House Republicans entered the speaker sweepstakes Friday following Jordan’s defeat. The House aims to vote again on Tuesday. But it’s anyone’s guess whether the House can elect a speaker then or anytime soon.
(Jordan) endorsed a plan for the House to formally elect Speaker Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., as interim speaker pro tempore. McHenry simply assumed the role once the House bounced former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., from the speakership earlier this month. McHenry is handcuffed in his powers as acting speaker pro tempore, but the House would formally empower McHenry if he were elected speaker pro tempore. That would allow the House to function again and vote on legislation. There is precedent for this.
One senior Republican source told Fox that it was likely the House had to go at least one more round with a bona fide candidate for speaker before it began to consider the scenario mentioned earlier about empowering McHenry.
The House has done so in the past. House Rule I, Clause 8 allows an elected speaker pro tempore to assume "virtually all the duties, authorities, and prerogatives of the Speaker of the House."
It’s far from clear whether the House will ever follow this path to elect a speaker pro tempore if it can’t pick an actual speaker, but one thing is certain: The pathway over the next week remains circuitous. Ellipitical. Contorted. Malformed. (Fox News) Read more.

1. Israel to evacuate 14 more communities on Lebanon border amid Hezbollah attacks - Times of Israel
The Israel Defense Forces and Defense Ministry announced Sunday that they were planning to evacuate another 14 communities close to the Lebanese border, amid repeated rocket and missile attacks by Hezbollah and allied Palestinian factions in the last two weeks.
The ministry’s National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) said the residents would be taken to state-funded guesthouses.
Last week, NEMA began to evacuate 28 communities that are within two kilometers (1.25 miles) of the border, as well as the city of Kiryat Shmona. (Read more)

2. President Herzog: Terrorists carried instructions to make weapons of mass destruction - Israel National News
In an interview today, Sunday, Israel’s President Isaac Herzog revealed materials found on the bodies of Hamas terrorists, including training materials for the use of chemical warfare agents, intended to be used by the terrorist organization in its murderous rampage against innocent civilians.
A USB key found on the body of a Hamas terrorist who infiltrated Israeli territory was found to contain detailed instructions on creating chemical weapons and implementing their use among the civilian population. The source of the document is a manual from the Al-Qaeda terrorist organization dated 2003, and its discovery indicates both the connection between the organizations and the intention of the Hamas terrorist organization to use chemical weapons to cause mass casualties – as ISIS had planned in the past. 3. IDF raids Samaria home of Hamas second-in-command - Israel Hayom
Israeli forces on Saturday raided the Samaria home of top Hamas commander Saleh al-Arouri and detained several of his relatives, according to French news agency AFP.
Al-Arouri, the commander of Hamas operations in Judea in Samaria and the deputy of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, is currently based in Lebanon.
Israeli forces entered al-Arouri's home in the village of Arura north of Ramallah at dawn, and arrested more than 20 people, including one of his brothers and nine of his nephews, according to AFP.
Israeli forces reportedly thereafter raised a banner over the home showing al-Arouri on the backdrop of an Israeli flag and captioned: "This was the house of Saleh al-Arouri and has become the headquarters of Abu al-Nimer – Israeli intelligence." (Read more)

The Israeli military is preparing to immediately step up its strikes in the Gaza Strip to increase pressure on the Hamas terror group, which rules the coastal enclave, following its brutal October 7 assault on Israel.
IDF spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said Saturday night that Israel was planning to enter “the next phase of the war in the best conditions [for us], not according to what anyone tells us.”
“From today, we are increasing the strikes and minimizing the danger,” Hagari said in a televised press conference. (Read more)

5. Soldier killed, 3 hurt following Hamas attack on troops near Gaza - Times of Israel
A soldier was killed and three others were hurt on Sunday, after Hamas attacked troops carrying out an operation on the western side of the Gaza border fence, near the southern community of Kissufim.
The operation was part of the military’s searches for bodies of missing Israelis, and to clear the area for Israel’s upcoming ground offensive.
The Israel Defense Forces said an anti-tank guided missile was fired at an Israeli tank and engineering vehicle, and troops responded by shelling the terror cell. Terror group Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack. (Read more)

1. U.S. State Department Issues Global Travel Advisory amid Rising Tensions - Christian Headlines
The U.S. State Department has issued a worldwide travel advisory, urging Americans abroad to exercise increased caution due to heightened tensions across various global locations. The advisory cites concerns about potential terrorist attacks, demonstrations, or violent actions against U.S. citizens and interests. The department emphasizes its commitment to the safety and security of U.S. citizens overseas, providing clear and timely information for informed travel decisions.
In light of the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, the travel advisory specifically raises concerns about the unpredictable security situation in certain areas. 2. China deploys six warships to Middle East over fears Israel crisis could spark WW3 - Daily Express US
The Chinese military has deployed its 44th naval escort task force to the Middle East amid rising tensions in Israel.
China has deployed six warships to the Middle East as the conflict between Israel and Hamas escalates, according to reports.
The 44th naval escort task force - from the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Eastern Theatre - has been involved in routine operations in the region and spent several days in Oman last week.
The Chinese warships left Muscat for an unspecified location on Saturday after participating in an exercise with the Omani navy.
The task force includes the Zibo, a guided missile destroyer, the frigate Jingzhou, and the supply ship Qiandaohu - all of which will be stationed in the Middle East as Israel prepares for a ground invasion of Gaza.
During the visit to Oman, Chinese commanders met with Omani military officials and visited military institutions, while sailors from both countries toured shops and even organized a basketball game, according to a state news agency. (Read more)

3. 100,000 Protest Against Israel in London as Antifa and Islamist Flags Fly - Breitbart
An estimated 100,000 people joined a pro-Palestinian rally in London on Saturday, including supporters of radical Islam and far-left groups such as Antifa and various socialist organisations.
The Metropolitan Police said that up to 100,000 people joined a rally to support Palestine in the wake of the deadly Hamas terror strikes on Israel that left over 1,400 people dead and the subsequent retaliation on Palestine. Protests were also held in multicultural Birmingham, as well as in Cardiff and Salford on Saturday.
According to The Telegraph, protesters carried signs including some depicting both British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with Hitler moustaches, with the caption “Crime Minister”.
Protesters could once again be heard chanting the genocidal creed: “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free”, a rallying cry for the destruction of the state of Israel and its people from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea.
Video footage captured by veteran protest watcher Andy Ngo saw people at the rally carry signs in support of radical Islamic jihad and calling for the “Muslim armies” of the world to enter the fight against Israel.
“The only solution is jihad by the armies of the Muslim countries,” a speaker was filmed saying outside the Egyptian Embassy in London. Others could be heard chanting the Islamic war cry “Allah hu Akbar”.
The rally was joined by members of the far-left, including people waving banners and placards from the Socialist Worker, while others were filmed waving the flag of the radical militant Antifa group.
Ahead of the protest, the Met Police warned that those who showed support for banned terror groups such as Hamas would face arrest. While members of the protest were pictured flying the black ‘Shahada’ flag used by Islamist terror organisations such as Jabhat al Nusra and al-Qaeda, the police noted that it was not the ISIS flag, and therefore apparently not worthy of arrest. The U.K. prime minister is on a two-day visit to the Middle East.
Rishi Sunak has delivered a message of British solidarity with Israel during a whirlwind trip to Tel Aviv, telling Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: “We want you to win.”
Standing alongside Netanyahu for a televised address, Sunak said he “knew” Israel is “taking every precaution to avoid harming civilians” as it responds to last weekend’s attacks by Hamas.
The British PM arrived in Israel early Thursday morning for a two-day visit to the war-torn Middle East. He immediately held talks with Israeli President Isaac Herzog as well as Netanyahu. (Read more)

5. Blinken acknowledges Mideast crisis taking toll on staff - POLITICO
The chief diplomat sent a note to the State Department as many Muslim staffers have grown unhappy about the U.S. approach to the Israel-Hamas war.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken told his staffers Thursday night that he knew many were shaken professionally and personally by the Israel-Hamas war — a message he sent amid unhappiness among some Muslim and Arab employees over how the U.S. is approaching the crisis.
Blinken’s note to staff wasn’t a response to reports of the frustrations, a person familiar with the issue said. He had planned to write to department employees about the Middle East crisis but wanted to wait until he returned from a visit to the region, said the person, who was granted anonymity to discuss a sensitive issue.
Blinken’s note described his trip, which was repeatedly extended and saw him visit Israel and several Arab countries, some of them multiple times. The secretary applauded staffers for moving quickly to deal with logistics and other aspects of the trip and overall crisis.
“I know that, for many of you, this time has not only been challenging professionally, but personally,” he added. “Some of our colleagues in the region, especially among our locally employed staff, have been directly affected by the violence, including by losing loved ones and friends.”
He went on to note that even in the United States, there have been “ripples of fear and bigotry” against Arab Americans, Muslims and Jews. (Read more)

6. Despite denials, Joe Biden’s $200k check from brother shows direct payment from family business - Just the News
James Biden's payment is l first direct evidence that Joe Biden benefited directly from his family's business. Testimonial and documentary evidence says there could be more.
President Joe Biden has repeatedly claimed that he never had anything to do with his son’s or his brother’s business ventures while he was in public office or remained a public figure.
However, new evidence released Friday by House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R.-K.Y., shows that in 2018 Joe Biden received a $200,000 payment from his brother James Biden connected to the failing healthcare company Americore.
In 2020 a Biden campaign official told Politico that Joe Biden never talked with his brother about Americore or expressed support for the business.
Now the public has evidence that Joe Biden received a payment from his brother, funds that Comer alleges were made available by a loan payment to James Biden from the near-bankrupt Americore. This raises questions about what Joe Biden actually knew about the source of these funds he received.

7. Senate Staffer Robbed at Gunpoint in Gun-Controlled Washington, DC - Breitbart
A staffer for Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL) was robbed at gunpoint in gun-controlled Washington, DC, on Thursday shortly before 8:30 p.m.
The staffer “was walking down the sidewalk” when a man approached, put a gun in her face, and said, “‘Give me your purse and keys,'” WUSA 9 reported.
The staffer handed over her keys and other belongings and the robber got in her car and drove off.
The staffer was not physically harmed.
Sen. Britt released a statement after the incident:
We thank God that she is safe and sound after this terrifying incident, and we’re grateful to the Capitol Police Department and Metropolitan Police Department officers who quickly and professionally responded to the scene. It is infuriating and completely unacceptable that an American who is on Capitol Hill to serve her country cannot safely walk the streets of Washington, D.C. at 8:30 at night because of the out-of-control crime in this city. Just look at the police department’s own numbers – this year, robberies are up 68% and motor vehicle thefts are up 102%. Local elected officials in the District of Columbia have the responsibility not just to their citizens, but to the country, to step up and get a hold of the crime crisis ravaging the streets of our nation’s capital.
On September 20, 2023, Breitbart News noted that House Administration Committee Chairman Bryan Steil (R-WI) warned staffers not to wear jewelry or become distracted on cell phones while walking around in crime-ridden, Democrat-run Washington, DC. He did this as part of an effort to inform staffers of things they could do to lessen the chances of becoming targets of criminals as crime surges in D.C. (Read more)

8. Exclusive: D.C. Residents Fear Crime Surge Turning Area into U.S. War Zone - Breitbart
Many Washington, DC, residents cannot walk their dog, enjoy a local park, or pick up groceries without fear of being stabbed, robbed, or gunned down in the District, a 68 square mile area that local residents described as a “war zone” to Breitbart News.
Just this week, five homicides occurred in 35 hours in three separate highly trafficked areas of the city: Benning neighborhood in Southeast, Capitol Hill in Northeast, and Brightwood in Northwest. One of them entailed a former Democrat staffer for a District council member. Another shocking incident occurred Monday when four men jumped out of a car in the well-to-do Wharf neighborhood with guns drawn to rob restaurantgoers, Metropolitan Police Department footage showed.
Crime soared in 2022 after U.S. Attorney for D.C. Matthew Graves refused to prosecute 67 percent of those arrested. In turn, 222 criminal homicides occurred in 2023, a 35 percent increase from the same period in 2022, according to police statistics. The District eclipsed 200 killings on August 12, the earliest point since the late 1990s.
The District currently ranks 173 in safety on a list of 182 American cities, dropping from last year’s 168 spot, according to a study recently released by WalletHub. (Read more)

Captagon pills were found in the pockets of Hamas terrorists.
|

|
Hamas terrorists who carried out a surprise attack on October 7 were found to be under the influence of Captagon, a synthetic amphetamine-type stimulant that has been clandestinely produced in southern Europe and trafficked through Turkey to the consumer markets on the Arabian Peninsula, as reported by Nir Dvori of Channel 12.
The pills were recovered from the pockets of many terrorists who lost their lives on Israeli soil.
This stimulant drug, also known as the "cocaine for the poor," allowed the terrorists to commit heinous acts with a sense of calmness and indifference. Simultaneously, it kept them highly alert for extended periods and suppressed their appetite.

Captagon: Used by ISIS
Captagon gained notoriety in 2015 when it was discovered to be used by ISIS fighters to suppress fear prior to carrying out terrorist operations. As the influence of terrorist organizations like ISIS diminished, Lebanon and Syria took the reins and began producing and distributing the drug on a large scale.
Gaza, in particular, became a popular market for the drug, especially among addicted young individuals.
Captagon belongs to the amphetamine family and was initially developed to address attention disorders, narcolepsy, and depression. Despite its highly addictive nature and potential for inducing psychotic reactions, it continues to enjoy popularity in the Middle East due to its affordability and ease of manufacturing. In poorer countries, the drug can be purchased for a dollar or two, while in wealthier nations, it may cost up to 20 dollars per pill.
Its primary effects include arousing feelings of euphoria, reducing the need for sleep, suppressing appetite, and providing sustained energy.
According to medical professionals in Lebanon and Syria, Captagon is not only prevalent among fighters but is also frequently used by desperate civilians residing in conflict zones.
Once a source of revenue for ISIS members through drug smuggling, Captagon has now become a major source of income for Syria and is actively supported by Hezbollah.

Iran Raises Black Flag Over One Of The World's Largest Mosques In Ominous Sign

In Iran, a black flag has been ominously raised above the Imam Reza Mosque.
There has been a lot of debate about what this could mean.
In the contemporary Islamist movement, the black flag is used to evoke notions of jihad and of reestablishing the Islamic Caliphate.
It can also be used as a symbol in Islamic eschatology heralding the advent of the Islamic Mahdi, where armies of Muslims will carry the black banner forward as they march forward to establish the Mahdi's caliphate.
Without a doubt, it certainly isn't a good sign to have a black flag flying on top of one of the world's largest mosques...
In a historic and unprecedented move, a black flag has been hoisted above the illuminated Razavi dome, of the Imam Reza mosque complex in Iran - a stark departure from tradition as it's outside of Muharram, the month of mourning in the Islamic calendar.
The Imam Reza mosque complex in Mashhad, Iran, home to the mausoleum of Imam Reza, also known as Ali al-Rida, is an iconic religious complex and the largest mosque in the world by area.

PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM
(from Psalm 122)
O Jerusalem, may peace and prosperity be within your walls. For the sake of God’s chosen ones, I say, ‘Peace be within you.’ Come, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6); establish peace for Israel (Isaiah 26:12) and make Jerusalem a strong, undivided city. Appoint salvation for walls and open the gates that Israel may once again be that righteous and peaceful nation which keeps the truth and “whose mind is stayed on You” (Isaiah 26:1-3).
Lord, may You command your blessing over Israel. May Your oil of peace and unity be poured out on that land like oil was upon the head of Aaron, refreshing as the dew of Herman, descending upon the mountains of Zion (Psalm 133). May the Jewish and Arab descendants of Abraham live together in peace, love and justice on your hallowed soil. Father, bring Revival to the land of Israel and turn the hearts of the Jews and Arabs toward Messiah, the God of Israel, His Word and His purposes!
O Jerusalem, because of the house of the Lord our God, we seek your good. We pray for the peace of Jerusalem; and may all who love you prosper.

A PROPHETIC CALL FOF PEACE
O God of Peace, come and crush Satan under our feet (Romans 16:20)! Bring down the evil structures of this world that hold your Harvest captive. Scatter the peoples who delight in war (Psalm 68:30). Banish the reproach of our sin so that righteousness may exalt the nations (Proverbs 14:34). May judgment return to righteousness and all the upright in heart follow it (Psalm 94:15). And may righteousness and salvation go forth in the earth as a blazing torch (Isaiah 62:1).
O God, open the blinded eyes to see the Lord and walk in His light (Isaiah 2:5). O Righteous Judge, may You hasten the day when people will “beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks, (so that) nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore” (Isaiah 2:4). Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6), come and establish Your throne upon this earth that Your Kingdom will come and Your will be done as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10)!

DECREES CONCERNING UNHOLY DOCTRINES OF MEN SEEKING TO DIVIDE UP ISRAEL’S COVENANT LAND
We decree by the power and name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Who came in the flesh, that any plan to give away or divide up Israel’s covenant land is null and void and superseded by the Blood Covenant Israel has with Almighty God through His servant Abraham. As IT IS WRITTEN in Genesis 17:7-8:
And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant … . Also I will give to you and your descendants after you … all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.
So we decree: The land is Israel’s and forever shall be. Therefore, we decree that no plan, scheme or weapon formulated to annihilate or divide the biblical land of Israel, the “Apple of God’s Eye,” shall prosper.
We further stand in agreement with the Word of God which states that the wicked shall “take counsel together, and it shall come to naught; they shall speak the word, and it shall not stand” (Isaiah 8:10). Then, from our Kingdom positioning with Christ over all that opposes Him, we stand against the wiles of the devil and spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly places (Ephesians 6:11-12). We take the keys to the House of David (according to Isaiah 22:22) and close every door of access used by any spiritual powers sent to divide and conquer Israel, sealing these spiritual gates with the Blood of the Lamb of God, Who has defeated every foe and put to disgrace every demonic power (1 John 3:8 and Colossians 2:15).
DECREE CONCERNING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF ISRAEL IN HER COVENANT LAND

In the authority of Jesus Christ and in the power of His Name, we decree that Israel is the Lord’s and all those who dwell therein (Psalm 24:1). Furthermore, IT IS WRITTEN that God’s Chosen People, Israel, hold a covenant deed to all the land of Canaan (Genesis 17:7-8). So we take the keys to the House of David (Isaiah 22:22) over the City of David and open it to the KING OF GLORY, declaring: “Be lifted up you city gates of Jerusalem! And be lifted up you ancient doors in Israel, so that the KING OF GLORY may come in! The LORD OF HOSTS, THE LORD STRONG AND MIGHTY, THE LORD MIGHTY IN BATTLE (Psalm 24:7-10)!
We declare that the ancient foundations of Righteousness, Justice and Truth, along with Israel’s biblical boundaries, shall be re-established as decreed in covenant with Almighty God through Abraham, Isaac and Jacob!

A new study points to a key window of opportunity
to save Greenland's ice sheet

The vast ice sheet that covers most of Greenland has waxed and waned over hundreds of thousands of years. Today, it is up to 2 miles thick and so packed with ice global sea levels would rise 20 feet if it all melted. But scientists now know that at times deep in the past, the ice sheet shrank back so far that it was almost nonexistent.
For years, scientists have worried and warned that such a full- or near-full collapse of the Greenland ice sheet could once again happen if global temperatures rose too high. That would push sea levels up worldwide, further impacting coastal communities. Exactly how warm it would have to get to cross that threshold has been fuzzy.
The window of concern hovered about 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit, or 2 degrees Celsius, above pre-industrial levels (Earth has already warmed about 2F, or 1.1C). If the ice sheet started down the path toward destruction, scientists warned, it would probably not return.
A new study published in Nature suggests there may be more wiggle room left for the ice sheet before it sets on an irreversible decline. Even if human-driven climate change pushes global temperatures above that 2C threshold, an increasingly likely possibility, the Greenland ice sheet could avoid full collapse if temperatures come back down relatively quickly, the study says.
"The Greenland ice sheet is more resilient than we thought," says Nils Bochow, a researcher at the Arctic University of Norway and the lead author of the paper. Read More

‘Amazing’: Couple Shocked to Discover Pristine 172-Year-Old Bible Amid Mold, Rain Damage Embark on Powerful Mission to Find Owner

A Michigan couple was in for a major surprise while cleaning out an abandoned semi-trailer left on their property. Larry and Joyce Schramm, who own a storage facility where the semi was abandoned, told WJBK-TV they discovered a 172-year-old Bible filled with cards, letters, and marriage and death certificates. Even more remarkable: the Bible was the only item they discovered that wasn’t ravaged by rainwater and mold, as the holy book was wrapped up and protected. “It’s amazing how old this book is,” Larry told the outlet. “It was a neat find.” Rather than hold on to the Bible, though, the family decided to put clues together to try and return it to the proper family. The only information they had to go on was a last name: Wendell.
At first, the couple couldn’t locate the family but, after sending the Bible to WJBK-TV, reporters tracked down Chrys Wendell in Arizona, and she said the Bible belonged to her father’s side of the family. Wendell also offered context into how the Bible and other belongings were left behind. “My grandparents were antique dealers, and my father had this semi with all the stuff in it,” she said, explaining how a friend said he would take care of the semi-truck after her dad died seven years ago. “But obviously, he didn’t,” she told the outlet. “I [didn’t] even know that the Bible existed, so this is all news to me.” The Bible and family records are now helping her learn more about her history — something she welcomes. “My dad would be proud that you guys found this Bible,” Wendell said. “That would bring him much joy.” As for the Schramms, they’re excited the Bible is making its way back to its rightful owner.
