Republicans secure majority in House of Representatives
|
|
Republicans passed the 218 seat threshold required to reach a majority
|
|
Republicans have secured a majority in the House of Representatives when the 118th U.S. Congress convenes next January.
The GOP has now won 218 seats after the Associated Press projected that Republican Mike Garcia will win reelection in California's 27th Congressional District.
Democrats, meanwhile, have secured 209 seats as vote counting continues more than a week after Election Day. Eight seats are still in play.
While Republicans will have control over the House, their slim majority falls short of the "red tsunami" that many pundits predicted.
Democrats have held the House since winning a majority in the 2018 midterm elections. While Republicans gained ground in the 2020 elections, Democrats maintained a slim majority in single digits for the first two years of President Biden's term in the White House.
The GOP has pledged to use control of the House to launch various investigations, including into Hunter Biden's business dealings, the findings of the Jan. 6 Committee, and the Biden administration's largely criticized withdrawal from Afghanistan.
The new Congress will officially be sworn into office on Jan. 3, 2023. (Fox News) Read more.

Poland says missile that killed 2 was 'very likely' fired by Ukrainian air defense
|
|
Poland said Wednesday that a missile that landed in a village near the Ukrainian border, leaving two people dead, was “very likely” caused by Kyiv’s air defenses.
“Most likely, this was an unfortunate accident,” Polish President Andrzej Duda said, referring to Ukraine's having defended itself against a barrage of Russian missiles that targeted the country the day before.
Following a conference with G20 and NATO leaders, President Biden told reporters it was “unlikely” to have been fired from Russia. “But we will see,” he added.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg will host an emergency meeting with ambassadors on Wednesday to discuss the missile strike. Duda said he told Stoltenberg and Biden it is “highly probable” that NATO’s Polish ambassador “will request to invoke Article 4, that is consultations among the allies.” According to Article 4 of the NATO treaty, a member country will “consult together whenever, in the opinion of any of them, the territorial integrity, political independence or security of any of the Parties is threatened.” (Yahoo News) Read more

- Father God, again we shout a quiet "Hallelujah" as we breathe a sigh of relief over this report. We praise You, Holy One, that when the facts of this incident were sorted out, it turned out that Russia was not responsible, after all.
We pray for those who now mourn the deaths of the two Polish citizens who were killed in this mishap, and we ask that this type of tragedy never happen again. Amen.
- "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:28)

Here are the 12 Republicans who helped push the same-sex marriage bill through the Senate
|
|
The Senate advanced the Respect for Marriage Act Wednesday that seeks to codify federal protections for same-sex marriage, winning enough Republican support to overcome a crucial procedural hurdle.
The Respect for Marriage Act codifies same-sex marriage into federal law while also providing a religious freedom amendment that would protect institutions from losing their tax-exempt status if they refuse to recognize same-sex marriages. Democrats made the legislation a top priority during the current lame-duck period as the party prepares for the likelihood of ceding control of the lower chamber to Republicans.
The bill advanced in the Senate with a 62-37 vote, surpassing the 60-vote threshold needed to defeat a filibuster. Up next will be a final vote on passage in the Senate.
Twelve Republicans joined with their Democratic counterparts in supporting the measure Wednesday, including Sens. Roy Blunt (R-MO), Richard Burr (R-NC), Shelley Capito (R-WV), Susan Collins (R-ME), Joni Ernst (R-IA), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Rob Portman (R-OH), Mitt Romney (R-UT), Dan Sullivan (R-AK), Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Todd Young (R-IN). - Lord God, we believe that Your Word is true, and does not lie. Hence, we gaze upon what happened to the same-sex residents of Sodom and Gomorrah, and we cringe. Spare us, O Lord, because once again we have proven to be a people who have lost our way. Show us Your mercy we ask, O God, and visit these 12 "Republican" senators with the truth of Your Word in a dream in the night. In Your name we plead, amen and amen.
- "In a dream, a vision of the night,
When deep sleep falls on people,
While they slumber in their beds,
Then He opens the ears of people,
And horrifies them with warnings,
So that He may turn a person away from bad conduct,
And keep a man from pride." (Job 33:15-17)

1. Netanyahu agrees to Ben Gvir demand to legalize dozens of outposts, Homesh yeshiva - Times of Israel
Prime Minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu and Otzma Yehudit head Itamar Ben Gvir agreed Wednesday to a series of legislative initiatives that the extremist lawmaker has been pushing for, Netanyahu’s Likud party said, as coalition talks appeared stuck with two of his other allies.
Those bills include retroactively legalizing dozens of illegal West Bank outposts, sometimes known as “young settlements,” within 60 days of the government being sworn in, changing the 2005 Disengagement Law in a way that would allow the legalization of the controversial Homesh outpost and yeshiva in the West Bank, and a minimum sentence for agricultural crimes.
Likud said they also agreed to accelerate the expansion of Route 60 — the main north-south highway through the West Bank — the building of bypass roads, and a broadening of an existing law that prevents criminal charges from being brought against someone using force to protect their home to also apply to anyone defending an IDF army base. 2. Netanyahu in talks with Lapid, Gantz for unity government - Israel National News
While the Likud continues its efforts to secure coalition deals with its right-wing allies in order to establish a narrow rightist government, officials close to Opposition Leader Benjamin Netanyahu are simultaneously negotiating with center-left leaders, eyeing a possible national unity government, Ma’ariv reported Wednesday.
According to the report, members of Netanyahu’s entourage are in the midst of quiet yet intensive talks with associates of Defense Minister Benny Gantz (National Unity) and Prime Minister Yair Lapid (Yesh Atid).
The talks are centered around the possibility of forming a new government without the rightist Religious Zionist Party, Otzma Yehudit, and Noam factions, with Yesh Atid and at least part of the National Unity party joining in their place. It appears that the New Hope faction within National Unity is not inclined to join a government with Netanyahu, even if the Blue and White faction of Benny Gantz would. (Read more)

3. Netanyahu, center-left parties deny reports of unity coalition talks -World Israel News
Opposition leader and Prime Minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu has opened up a channel to Prime Minister Yair Lapid and Defense Minister Benny Gantz, Israel’s Hebrew daily Ma’ariv reported Wednesday.
As coalition talks reached an impasse, the Likud announced it has cancelled planned meetings with negotiating teams from the Religious Zionism Party and United Torah Judaism after Netanyahu failed to reach a breakthrough with Religious Zionist Party chairman MK Bezalel Smotrich Tuesday evening.
While Smotrich has demanded either the Defense or Finance Ministry portfolios in exchange for his party’s support of Netanyahu as prime minister, Netanyahu urged the Religious Zionism chairman to accept another position, noting that Shas chief Aryeh Deri has already requested the Finance Ministry and citing pressure both in Israel and abroad. 4. Israeli Owned Oil Tanker Attacked Off Coast of Oman - Jewish Press
The oil tanker Pacific Zircon which sails under a Liberian flag, is operated by the Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping and is owned by Israeli billionaire Idan Ofer, was hit Tuesday night by a bomber drone off the coast of Oman. The vessel departed from Sohar, Oman on Monday and was sailing at 11.8 knots and heading to Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The US Fifth Fleet announced they are aware of the incident in the Gulf of Oman, adding that although its origin is not yet known, the explanation is that the attack was intended to harm the World Cup that’s expected to start in nearby Qatar in four days.
Interesting speculation.
Nevertheless, Haaretz cited senior Israeli security officials who accused Iran of attacking the oil tanker, noting it was a strategic mistake on Tehran’s part since there were no Israeli citizens on board the ship. (Read more)

5. Israeli, American parts found in Iranian combat drones sold to Russia - World Israel News
The Iranian drones that Russia is using in its war in Ukraine are mostly filled with components obtained from the United States and other Western countries, including Israel, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.
Besides examining UAVs shot down by Ukrainian soldiers, experts managed to take over one combat drone, a Mohajer-6, in flight, and land it safely. After taking it apart, local investigators determined that about half of its inner workings, including microchips, are “made in America,” according to a report shown to the Journal by a Kyiv NGO, the Independent Anti-Corruption Commission.
About a third of the 200 technical parts were made by Japanese firms; some were manufactured in Germany; and the logo of Rotax, an Austrian subsidiary of a Canadian company, was found on engines in drone wreckages. The Rotax engines are dual use (civilian and military) products, found in snowmobiles as well as in American Predator and Israeli Heron drones. (Read more)

1. In Post-Roe America, We Must Change How We Think And Speak About Adoption And Foster Care - the Federalist
As the nation reacts to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, we’ve seen an increase in abortion proponents citing the struggles of the foster care system as a justification for ending the lives of the unborn.
As someone whose family has been shaped and even added to by the foster system, it hurts to see abortion activists make the case that a child like my father, who was raised in foster care, or my brothers, who were adopted from foster care, should have been aborted instead of making their way through an imperfect, but a life-affirming system.
November is National Adoption Month, a good occasion to sit down with Herbie Newell, president and executive director of Lifeline Children’s Services, the largest evangelical Christian adoption agency in the country. I invited Newell to address common misconceptions about adoption, foster care, and the choice to preserve life when parenting is not in the best interests of the child and the birth parents. We pray for churches, pregnancy centers, and all resources out there that they would be fully equipped to help these women in their journey in Jesus name amen.

2. Democrats maintain Senate control after victories in Nevada, Arizona - The Christian Post
Democrats will maintain control of the U.S. Senate in 118th Congress as Nevada Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto is projected to defeat her Republican challenger, Adam Laxalt, in a tightly contested midterm race in The Silver State.
With 98% of the precincts reporting in Nevada, Cortez Masto has secured about 48.8% of the vote to Laxalt’s 48.1%.
With the victory, Democrats are guaranteed to win 50 seats in the upper chamber. With Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris being the tiebreaking vote, Democrats will again have a narrow majority in the Senate for the second half of President Joe Biden’s first term in office.
Another close race projected this weekend to be a victory for Democrats is the Arizona Senate race. With 88% of the precincts reporting, Sen. Mark Kelley has secured 51.8% of the vote, while Republican challenger Blake Masters has earned 46.1% of the vote.
- We pray for Congress, Lord, throughout the rest of the year that they would not pass any unreasonable and dangerous legislation as backlash or retaliation against Republicans taking the house in the mighty name of Jesus. We pray for the critical Georgia runoff election on December 6 and we forbid corruption to take place. We demand justice and righteousness would win out in Georgia in Jesus name amen.
- “And since he would not be persuaded, we fell silent, remarking, “The will of the Lord be done.” (Acts 21:14)

3. Biden, China's Xi Hold First In-Person Meeting - All Sides
In remarks before the meeting, Biden said he and Xi share a responsibility "to show that China and the United States can manage our differences" and find ways to collaborate on "urgent global issues." Xi said the two countries "need to find the right direction for the bilateral relationship going forward." Afterward, Biden said the U.S. would "compete vigorously, but I’m not looking for conflict," and that he doesn't believe there's an "imminent attempt" from China to invade Taiwan.
Biden and Xi have spoken several times via phone, but not in-person since Biden took office in early 2021. Amid Russia's invasion of Ukraine and China's reluctance to condemn it, fears have grown that China could try a similar takeover of Taiwan.
The Washington Examiner's board said Biden must show Xi that "America will not be cowed or corralled in standing up for its interests." (Read more)
- Heavenly Father, we pray for our brothers and sisters in China who don’t have the freedom to live out their faith in the public square. Touch and convict the hearts of the Chinese government officials, so that many would repent and be saved through faith in Jesus. We continue to pray for the pastors, church leaders, and other Christians who are imprisoned for their faith. Strengthen them and their families. Help them to always be helpful and rejoice in their condition. Be glorified in Your church, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

5. McConnell wins Senate leadership election, overcomes Scott challenge - Fox News
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., on Wednesday won re-election as Senate GOP leader, fending off a challenge from Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., and setting himself up to become the longest-serving party leader in the history of the Senate.
McConnell won a vote that broke 37-10 and saw one senator abstain, according to Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Tex. Cruz and several other GOP senators had called for the vote to be postponed until after the Dec. 6 Georgia Senate runoff, but a motion to do that from Cruz failed 32-16 ahead of the GOP leader vote.
"I'm not going anywhere," McConnell said after the vote, when asked if he would consider stepping aside after breaking the record of the longest-serving party leader in Senate history, late Sen. Mike Mansfield, D-Mont. (Read more)
- Lord God we lift Mitch McConnell up to you, that he would fall to his knees and confess you as Lord and Savior. We pray that he would fear only you and not man.
We pray that he would do his best to represent his party well and, in this next session of Congress, not work against the values his party stands for. In Jesus name we pray amen.
- "So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin." (James 4:17)

6. Elise Stefanik wins second term as House GOP conference chairwoman - Washington Examiner
House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY) managed to fend off a challenge from freshman Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) to retain her leadership position in the next Congress on Tuesday.
Supporters of Donalds, one of two black Republicans in the lower chamber, took issue with Stefanik, who succeeded Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) in the role after the Wyoming Republican was ousted over her criticisms of former President Donald Trump, for breaking her vow to serve only one term in the position, a commitment her team later denied she made before she backtracked during a candidate forum on Monday.
Stefanik received 144 votes to Donalds's 74.
Stefanik’s backers praised her tenure for helping lead the conference's messaging efforts. Trump also threw his support behind her, telling Fox News he thinks she is “fantastic.”

7. Republicans Elect Steve Scalise to Be Next House Majority Leader - Brietbart
House Republicans elected Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) on Tuesday to serve as majority leader in the next Congress in anticipation that Republicans will narrowly clinch the chamber majority.
Unlike elections for some of the other top leadership positions, Scalise ran unopposed for the position and was elected via a voice vote rather than a secret ballot during the House Republican Conference’s closed-door elections on Capitol Hill.
Scalise, who has served in office for 14 years, said in a statement he was “humbled” to be chosen by his colleagues, and he vowed to pursue a congressional agenda focused on fighting inflation, border control, and crime. (Read more)

8. Ivanka Trump says she loves her father but does ‘not plan to be involved in politics’ - Fox News
Ivanka Trump, in an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, said she loves and supports her father, former President Trump, "very much" but does "not plan to be involved in politics" and says her "focus is prioritizing" her young children and her family.
"I love my father very much. This time around, I am choosing to prioritize my young children and the private life we are creating as a family," Ivanka Trump told Fox News Digital. "I do not plan to be involved in politics.
"While I will always love and support my father, going forward I will do so outside the political arena. I am grateful to have had the honor of serving the American people and will always be proud of many of our administration’s accomplishments."

9. Escalation fears ease after NATO, Warsaw say missile that hit Poland was Ukrainian stray - James Town Sun
A missile that hit Poland was probably a stray fired by Ukraine's air defenses and not a Russian strike, Poland and NATO said on Wednesday, easing global concern that the war in Ukraine could spill across the border.
Nevertheless, NATO's chief said that Moscow, not Kyiv was ultimately to blame, for starting the war in the first place and launching the attack that triggered Ukraine's defenses.
"This is not Ukraine's fault. Russia bears ultimate responsibility as it continues its illegal war against Ukraine," NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg told reporters in Brussels.
NATO ambassadors were holding emergency talks to respond to Tuesday's blast that killed two people at a grain facility in Poland near the Ukrainian border, the war's first deadly spillover onto the territory of the Western military alliance.

- Lord God we stand firm on your word and we just speak peace to this situation in the mighty name of Jesus. We will choose not to worry. We will choose not to be in fear. We forbid war and further chaos and destruction to happen in Russia, Ukraine, Poland, China and the entire world in Jesus mighty name. Amen.

Stupidocrisy: Ignoring The Gaslit Youth
The Daily Jot, Bill Wilson, November 16, 2022
Exit polls on election day indicated that young people came out in droves to vote. They were all fired up about abortion. That should tell us a lot about the future of this country, and, quite frankly, how we are getting there. Many news outlets reported the shocking display of youth power in the midterm elections. A Tufts University survey of exit polls indicated 27% of young people (ages 18-29) turned out to vote in the 2022 midterm election, the second-highest youth turnout for a midterm election in the past 30 years, and just four percentage points behind the record set in 2018. According to National Election Pool surveys, votes cast by this age group comprised 12% of all votes in the election.
These vote totals are just slightly behind the turnout in 2014 and 2018 when Barack Obama was in office and midterm of Donald Trump. Tufts’ Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement reports, “Young people also continued their trend of strongly backing Democrats by wide margins and having an impact on elections around the country. According to the National Election Pool survey conducted by Edison Research, nationally 63% of youth voted for a Democrat, and 35% voted for a Republican candidate to the U.S. House of Representatives. That closely matches 2020 but represents a slight shift from 2018, when 67% of youth voted for a Democrat and 32% for a Republican.” Read More

HOW DO WE BRING GOD INTO THIS NATIONAL CRISIS?
By Mario Murillo
|
|
|
Some of us are enraged and others are exhausted. Is there proof out there that a handful of villains control our choices and overrule our rights? The answer is yes. But that proof is a viciously—even supernaturally—guarded secret.
Many are roaring that we are not a free people, and we must uncover our electronic slavery. Others despair, having witnessed repeated failures to expose the lie.
I do not want to diminish the crisis, but I believe we must look deeper. To bring God into this national crisis we must see the deeper lies. Look at these verses:
Acts 4:16-17, …saying, “What shall we do to these men? For, indeed, that a notable miracle has been done through them is evident to all who dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. But so that it spreads no further among the people, let us severely threaten them, that from now on they speak to no man in this Name.”

Artemis I mission takes flight in historic leap forward
for NASA's moon program
|
|
(CNN) -- The historic Artemis I mission took flight in the early hours of Wednesday morning after months of anticipation. The milestone event kicked off a journey that will send an uncrewed spacecraft around the moon, paving the way for NASA to return astronauts to the lunar surface for the first time in half a century.
The towering, 322-foot-tall (98-meter-tall) Space Launch System, or SLS, rocket lit its engines at 1:47 a.m. ET. It emitted up to 9 million pounds (4.1 million kilograms) of thrust to haul itself off the launchpad in Florida and into the air, streaking vibrantly across the night sky.
Atop the rocket was the Orion spacecraft, a gumdrop-shaped capsule that broke away from the rocket after reaching space. Orion is designed to carry humans, but its passengers for this test mission are of the inanimate variety, including some mannequins collecting vital data to help future live crews.
The SLS rocket expended millions of pounds of fuel before parts of the rocket began breaking away, and Orion was left to soar through orbit with just one large engine. That engine then set off two powerful burns to put the spacecraft on the correct trajectory toward the moon. Then, about two hours after liftoff, the rocket engine also fell away, leaving Orion to free-fly for the remainder of its journey. Read More

The JESUS Film Now Translated Into 2,000th Language
|
|
(Worthy News) – The landmark 1979 JESUS Film has just been translated into its 2,000th language, the Jesus Film Project (JFP) reports. Based solely on the account of Jesus’ life as recorded in the Gospel of Luke, the film has drawn a reported 49 million people to Christ since its release over 40 years ago. JFP recently celebrated that the Jesus Film is now available in its 2,000th language – the language of the people of Zo. Numbering around 65,000 Zo people live in Myanmar, where a printed Bible is hard to find and where many people cannot read in any event. “We’re praying this new translation of JESUS in Zo provides a way for the Zo to have access to the story of Jesus in a format they can understand, wherever they are,” JFP explains on its website.
As with all 2,000 versions, the film was translated into Zo with the help of researchers, translators, voice actors, engineers, dialogue directors, and approval committees working together for every new version of the movie, JFP said. “They’re local believers and native speakers who want to give their people the opportunity to hear the gospel—many for the first time. But they also know JESUS is a great tool for mentoring new believers and planting churches. We believe in the power of media and film to deliver the greatest and most important story ever told: the story of Jesus,” the Jesus Film organization explains in a website statement. “And it works. When people hear Jesus’ words, directly from Scripture and in their own language, they have in front of them the clear, matchless message of the gospel.” (Read more here)

Peace Perfect Peace
To listen to this classic hymn, CLICK HERE
Words: Edward Bickersteth Jr
Music: George Caldbeck
Scripture: You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in You. Isaiah 26:3
Lyrics:
Peace, perfect peace, in this dark world of sin?
The blood of Jesus whispers peace within.
Peace, perfect peace, by thronging duties pressed?
To do the will of Jesus, this is rest.
Peace, perfect peace, with sorrows surging round?
On Jesus’ bosom naught but calm is found.
Peace, perfect peace, with loved ones far away?
In Jesus’ keeping we are safe, and they.
Peace, perfect peace, our future all unknown?
Jesus we know, and He is on the throne.
Peace, perfect peace, death shadowing us and ours?
Jesus has vanquished death and all its powers.
It is enough: earth’s struggles soon shall cease,
And Jesus call us to Heaven’s perfect peace.
Peace, perfect peace, ’mid suffering’s sharpest throes?
The sympathy of Jesus breathes repose.
