CBN News will carry the live stream of the 2022 National Day of Prayer (NDP) broadcast at 8:00 pm Eastern, Thursday, May 5. The NDP Task Force is joining forces with Pray.com to host a prayer gathering for our nation. This year's theme for the prayer event is "Exalt the Lord Who Has Established Us" – it comes from the New Testament's book of Colossians. 

Colossians was written by the Apostle Paul during his first imprisonment in Rome. He wrote the letter to the Christians living in Colosse, a small city located on the Lycus River in present-day Turkey. In verses 6-7 of chapter 2, Paul wrote, "So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness."

The 90-minute program will be hosted by NDP President Kathy Branzell, and will feature: Chris Tomlin, Matthew West, Pastor Robert Morris, Dr. Ed Young, Alan Jackson, Pastor Jack Graham, Joni Eareckson Tada, Ronnie Floyd, Pastor Skip Heitzig, Pastor Miles McPherson, Pastor Mark Batterson, Pastor Samuel Rodriguez, Lecrae, Anne Graham-Lotz, Nick Hall, Beth Jones, Mike Kai, and Bishop Kenneth Ulmer.

‘Gravest, Most Unforgivable Sin’: SCOTUS Leak Decried By Court Watchers

Supreme Court experts decried the unprecedented leak of the Court’s draft decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health, in which justices reportedly voted to overturn Roe v. Wade.

The Supreme Court voted to overturn the landmark decision after oral arguments in December, according to a draft opinion leaked to Politico, but the vote is not final. Legal experts said the leak would damage the trust and functioning of the Court and was likely politically motivated.

Legal scholar Jonathan Turley said the leak was likely part of a push to encourage liberal efforts to protect abortion rights through the Supreme Court or through the legislature.

“The most likely motivation is obviously to pressure the Court and push the legislation in Congress on a federal abortion law before the midterm elections. It will also likely renew the call for court packing,” Turley said. “This draft is from February and the majority can shift on such opinions. However, the act of leaking such a draft opinion ranks as an original sin for judicial ethics.”

“It’s impossible to overstate the earthquake this will cause inside the Court, in terms of the destruction of trust among the Justices and staff, SCOTUSblog wrote on Twitter. “This leak is the gravest, most unforgivable sin.”

The Supreme Court was not expected to issue a decision in the case for another two months, Politico reported. (Daily Caller) Read more here.

1. ‘Arguments fall silent in cemeteries’: Herzog calls for unity at Memorial Day speech - Times of Israel
Israel on Tuesday evening mourned the country’s fallen soldiers and terror victims as sirens sounded nationwide at 8 p.m. to mark the start of Memorial Day

The sirens brought Israel to a halt for a full minute, as people stood in somber silence on the streets, inside homes and on balconies. Traffic too came to an abrupt halt, as vehicle occupants exited their vehicles to stand beside them.

The day’s official opening ceremony was held at the Western Wall in Jerusalem’s Old City, with President Isaac Herzog giving an address in which he urged Israelis to continue developing the country in a spirit of unity. (Read more)  

2. Despicable timing’: Police attacked during Memorial Day siren, suspects arrested - World Israel News

In Lod, during Israel’s commemoration Tuesday evening of its fallen IDF soldiers and victims of terror, for Arab residents carried out a violent attack against police officers, Channel 12 reported.

While the memorial siren blared and the country was at a standstill, police noticed them launching fireworks. They then attacked the officers who arrived at the scene.

Lod police said the incident occurred while the station police were carrying out increased and targeted enforcement against perpetrators of crime in the city, with an emphasis on weapons offenses, for the safety of area residents, the report said.

The suspects were arrested. (Read more)   

3. Bennett: This is our 3rd and last chance, don't let hatred destroy it - Israel National News

A memorial service for those who fell defending the State of Israel was held at the Yad LaBanim House in Jerusalem Tuesday afternoon, in the presence of the Prime Minister and the Speaker of the Knesset.

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett spoke at the memorial service, dedicating his speech to calling for unity among the people of Israel. "We were there, in Lebanon, all of us together. Kibbutzniks with city dwellers, secular with religious, Beersheba residents with Tel Avivians, right-wingers with left-wingers. Jews with non-Jews. The connection between us all is natural, something that should not be talked about at all. Together we spent long nights in the guard posts. Together we slept in the suffocating rooms inside the outposts. Together we went out into the petrifyng darkness on foot for operations. Everyone risked his life for the other. We were brothers."

"There, in southern Lebanon, I began to meet people with a different background than my own. In endless conversations on guard or during games at the outpost to pass the time. We would talk about home, about society, what our plans were after being released. Arguing politics. People would grumble about the fact that people are currently sitting in a restaurant or pub in Tel Aviv, and we were here in another world that a stranger would not understand.

Bennett continued: "I, who grew up in Haifa with parents who immigrated from the United States and did not even know there was such a thing as Ashkenazis and Sephardim, suddenly heard what life was like in the kibbutz, what it was like to be with 8eight brothers and sisters in an apartment in Ashkelon, what a secular high school is. I met soldiers from development towns alongside those who lived in villas."  (Read more)  

4. Russia accuses Israel of supporting ‘neo-Nazi regime’ in Ukraine - JNS

(May 3, 2022 / JNS) Russia’s foreign minister on Tuesday accused Israel of supporting “the neo-Nazi regime in Kyiv,” deepening a controversy he sparked two days earlier by claiming Hitler had “Jewish blood.”

Asked by Italian media on Sunday how a Nazi regime such as Russia claims exists in Ukraine could be headed by a Jewish president such as Volodymyr Zelensky, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov responded, “So what if Zelensky is Jewish? Hitler had Jewish blood.” Lavrov went on to state that “the greatest anti-Semites were Jews.”    

His remarks caused an uproar in Israel, with both Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid issuing harsh condemnations. Russian Ambassador Anatoly Viktorov was also summoned to Jerusalem.

“This angers me not just as foreign minister, but also as the son of a father who was in the Budapest ghetto,” said Lapid on Monday. “Jews didn’t put him in the ghetto. Nazis put him there. The Nazis persecuted the Jews and killed six million Jews. The Ukrainians are not Nazis. Only Nazis were Nazis. Only they dealt with systematic destruction of the Jewish people.” (Read more) 

5. Israel opens world’s most protected blood bank, rocket-proof and underground - Times of Israel

The world’s most secure national blood bank opened in Israel on Monday, the most important parts shielded in an underground structure — from terrorism, chemical and biological attacks, and earthquakes.

Magen David Adom’s $135 million Marcus National Blood Services Center has taken four years and some 11,000 tons of steel to complete. The guiding principle is that the country’s blood supply is a “strategic asset” that may save many lives in emergency scenarios, and as such should be protected.

“We visited many blood banks around the world when planning, and found that there is simply no other country with a facility like this, with such a high level of protection for the national blood supply,” Moshe Noyovich, the engineer who oversaw the project and a senior official at American Friends of Magen David Adom, which funded it, told The Times of Israel. (Read more)   

6. As Israel, US prep for Biden visit, second regional forum reportedly being weighed - Times of Israel
 

The US and Israel have discussed holding a forum of regional leaders when President Joe Biden visits Jerusalem, according to a report on Tuesday in the Axios news site.

An advance team from the Biden administration arrived in Israel earlier this week in preparation for the president’s visit, expected in late June, an official familiar with the matter told The Times of Israel. They added that the visit will include a stop in the West Bank to meet with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

The idea for a summit of Biden, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and at least one Arab leader was raised during National Security Adviser Eyal Hulata’s meeting with his US counterpart Jake Sullivan last month, Axios said, citing two Israeli officials. (Read more)

1. Sources Say Justice Roberts Will Call On FBI to Investigate SCOTUS Leak - Red State
 
As we reported earlier, the SCOTUS leak regarding the Roe decision is unprecedented in its scope. As political as court appointments have become, there is a professional and moral standard at SCOTUS that has long been held in esteem. Leaks are unheard of because justices and their staff take their judicial mandate extremely seriously. This is the highest court in the land. Their decisions have deep ripple effects throughout American life. They take controversial cases and often make controversial rulings.
 
For the sake of their own safety, and to protect the draft and opinion process, it is absolutely vital that the privacy of the court be held in tact. Never has there been such a violation of that privacy. Many are calling for an investigation into this leak. Twitter is already pointing to “sources” saying Chief Justice Roberts will likely call for an investigation involving the FBI.
 
RedState’s Susie Moore is a former attorney and says Americans need to take a breath and understand that a draft of a decision is not actually a decision. (Read more)  
 

- Father, we thank You that Chief Justice Roberts has in fact, called on the Marshall of the Court to launch an investigation into the leak.  This should never have happened and we pray for justice to be extended to the leaker and those who applied any pressure whatsoever to cause this to happen.  We pray for the blood of Jesus to protect every justice and especially their family members.

2. Biden on Supreme Court leak: Roe should not be overturned - Fox News
 
President Biden on Tuesday reacted to the leaked draft of the Supreme Court’s opinion striking down Roe v. Wade, saying he believes that "a woman’s right to choose is fundamental," and arguing that "basic fairness and the stability of our law demand that it not be overturned," while saying any potential final decision on the case by the high court should push voters "to elect pro-choice officials" during November’s midterm elections.
 
The high court is poised to overturn Roe v. Wade, according to a draft opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito, in an unprecedented and stunning leak from the high court.
 
"We do not know whether this draft is genuine, or whether it reflects the final decision of the Court," the president said Tuesday morning, before the Supreme Court confirmed the authenticity of the draft. "With that critical caveat, I want to be clear on three points about the cases before the Supreme Court."  (Read more)   

- Holy One, we ask You to put a muzzle on the raging and hostile threats and accusations emanating from this draft leak.  We know it's not yet final, and we decree that the Supreme Court will decide for life for the unborn in this nation.  Grant we, the people, a strong voice for the unborn in each of our states on this matter, in Jesus name.

3. New York City increases COVID alert amid increase in cases, particularly in Manhattan, Staten Island - Just The News
 
New York City has increase its alert level for COVID-19 following an increase in the reported number of infections. The level was raised Monday to "Medium," or yellow, the third-highest on a four-level scale, as reported cases surpassed a rate of 200 per 100,000 people in the five boroughs.
 
The change marks the first time the city's health department has adjusted that level since debuting it when Mayor Eric Adams' administration took office earlier this year, according to local TV station NBC-4.
Manhattan and Staten Island have the highest transmission rates per 100,000 residents. (Read more)

4. Rand Paul vows he'll get committee chair, lead COVID origins probe if GOP takes Senate in midterms - Just The News
 
Kentucky GOP Sen. Rand Paul, who has doggedly challenged public health establishment  policies and narratives associated with COVID-19, says he'll lead a Senate investigation into the origins of the virus if Republicans win control of the chamber in November.
 
Paul made the statement over the weekend at a rally in which he also told the crowd he'll be the chairman of the Senate Health committee. 
"When we take over in November, I will be chairman of a committee, and I will have subpoena power," Paul said. "And we will get to the bottom of where this virus came from."
 
When the minority party takes control of a congressional chamber, the chairmanship historically goes to whoever was the top minority member on that committee. The current ranking member is North Carolina GOP Sen. Richard Burr, who is not seeking reelection. (Read more)

5. CDC restates recommendation for masks on planes, trains - AP News
 
— U.S. health officials on Tuesday restated their recommendation that Americans wear masks on planes, trains and buses, despite a court ruling last month that struck down a national mask mandate on public transportation.
 
Americans age 2 and older should wear a well-fitting masks while on public transportation, including in airports and train stations, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended, citing the current spread of coronavirus and projections of future COVID-19 trends.
For months, the Transportation Security Administration had been enforcing a requirement that passengers and workers wear masks.
 
The government had repeatedly extended the mandate, and the latest one had been set to expire May 3. But a federal judge in Florida struck down the rule on April 18. The same day, the TSA said it would no longer enforce the mandate. (Read more)

6. NBC Sends Letter To Readers Admitting Reporter Plagiarized Stories - The Daily Caller
 
NBC News issued a letter to its readers Monday admitting that a reporter plagiarized several stories over the past year. The outlet told readers that 11 stories by the unnamed reporter contained passages from other news organizations without attribution and did “not represent original reporting.” The network’s editorial team placed an editor’s note on each of the plagiarized articles and removed the copy and pasted passages.
 
“A review by NBC News has found 11 articles written by a reporter over the last year that did not meet our standards for original material,” the note said. “The articles contained passages from other news organizations that were used without attribution. In all cases, the passages were not central to the stories, but instead contained supplemental or background material that did not represent original reporting.”
 
The plagiarism was seemingly done by political reporter Teaganne Finn, who the network did not outwardly identify in their statement to readers. (Read more)

7. Bill Would Grant Sweeping New War Powers to Biden - The Epoch Times
 
Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) on Monday introduced legislation that would give President Joe Biden sweeping new powers to conduct and manage U.S. aid to Ukraine as the Russian invasion of the country moves into its ninth week of fighting.
 
“I’m introducing this AUMF as a clear redline so the Administration can take appropriate action should Russia use chemical, biological, and/or nuclear weapons. We must stand up for humanity and we must stand with our allies,” Kinzinger said of the bill.
 
“As the President of the United States has said, Putin must be stopped,” he said, echoing a common refrain from the White House. “Accordingly, the Commander in Chief to the world’s greatest military should have the authority and means to take the necessary actions to do so.” (Read more) 

- We say absolutely not to the plots and plans of this agenda to embroil the United States in this debacle between Ukraine and Russia. We bind these plans and silence every war-mongering agenda, in Jesus name.  We loose wisdom upon this nation and speak peace over the conflict in Ukraine and command Russia to cease and desist, in the name of Jesus.

 8. Moderna lawsuits could leave taxpayers on the hook after company made billions - Fox Business
 
Moderna’s lifesaving COVID-19 vaccine was produced with unprecedented speed, but the pharmaceutical firm now faces multiple lawsuits which could leave taxpayers paying the tab. 
 
The lawsuits have focused on intellectual property rights and patents. In particular, a lawsuit from two biotech firms argued that the lipid technology used to develop the vaccine was the exact nature that biotech firm Arbutus had already developed. In response to another suit, Moderna disputed that three National Institutes of Health (NIH) scientists played a role in developing the messenger ribonucleic acid (MRNA). 
 
A federal loophole could get Moderna off the hook, and force taxpayers to foot the bill. "The statute basically allows the government to violate somebody's patent, provided that the person who's gotten violated can then sue the government in a specialized court called Court of Federal Claims. It's a slightly different procedure than traditional courts," University of Baltimore law professor Greg Dolin told Fox News in an interview. (Read more)

9. A Record 4.5 Million Workers Quit Their Jobs in March - Brietbart
 
The Bureau of Labor Statistics said Tuesday that 4.5 million workers quit, up by 150,000 from the prior month. That means three percent of all workers left work. The record high level of quits is a sign that workers believe jobs are plentiful. Typically, workers quit work when they expect to find another job or have already been offered a position.
 
“Quits are generally voluntary separations initiated by the employee. Therefore, the quits rate can serve as a measure of workers’ willingness or ability to leave jobs,” the BLS explained.
“As employers require workers to return to offices, quits are ticking upwards. A major reason for quitting is to find a remote opportunity,” wrote ZipRecruiter chief economist Julia Pollak on Twitter. (Read more)  

- Lord of All Creation, we put this matter in Your capable hands.  This is somewhat troubling to see so many people leaving their jobs.  In many regions, there are Help Wanted signs everywhere and there seems to be a shortage of workers. 10. Biden Seeks Green Cards for More than 85,000 Afghans Amid Vetting Failures - Brietbart
 
President Joe Biden is seeking to provide green cards to tens of thousands of Afghans who were quickly resettled in American communities over the last eight months amid a federal investigation that found many have possible ties to terrorism and were not properly vetted.
 
The quasi-amnesty plan is slipped into a funding request where Biden is asking Congress to approve $33 billion in American taxpayer money to send to Ukraine. As part of the plan, Afghans given humanitarian parole by the Biden administration would be allowed to adjust their immigration status to obtain lawful permanent residence, otherwise known as a green card. After five years of holding a green card, the Afghans would be able to apply for naturalized American citizenship.
 
“The Secretary of Homeland Security, in the Secretary’s discretion, may adjust the status of an Afghan national … whose parole has not been terminated, to that of an individual lawfully admitted for permanent residence provided that the Afghan national,” the plan states. (Read more) 

- Holy King, 85,000 is a lot of people about whom we know nothing.  We ask You to intervene on yet another ill-thought-out plan being used by this administration to bring fear into our nation. It also seems intended to further degrade our sovereignty.  Jesus, please cause the passage of this thing to fail completely.

Overturning Roe Does Not End Abortion

Politico obtained what it says is a draft decision that the Supreme Court is striking down Roe v Wade, the case that legalized abortion in 1973. If the document is authentic, Justice Samuel Alito has written the initial draft majority opinion, Politico reports, concluding: “We do not pretend to know how our political system or society will respond to today’s decision overruling Roe and Casey. And even if we could foresee what will happen, we would have no authority to let that knowledge influence our decision. We can only do our job, which is to interpret the law, apply longstanding principles of stare decisis, and decide the case accordingly. We therefore hold that the Constitution does not confer a right to abortion.”

Alito writes: “Roe and Casey must be overruled, and the authority to regulate abortion must be returned to the people and their elected representatives.” Alito noted that for the first 185 years after the adoption of the Constitution, each state was permitted to address the abortion issue according to the will of its citizens. In 1973 all that changed. He writes: “Even though the Constitution makes no mention of abortion, the Court held that it confers a broad right to obtain one. It did not claim that American law or the common law had ever recognized such a right…” Alito agreed with Justice Byron White’s 1973 dissent of the opinion, saying it represented the “exercise of raw judicial power.” Read More

Yesterday, a news organization published a copy of a draft opinion in a pending case. Justices circulate draft opinions internally as a routine and essential part of the Court’s confidential deliberative work. Although the document described in yesterday’s reports is authentic, it does not represent a decision by the Court or the final position of any member on the issues in the case.
 
Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr., provided the following statement:
 
To the extent this betrayal of the confidences of the Court was intended to undermine the integrity of our operations, it will not succeed. The work of the Court will not be affected in any way.
 
We at the Court are blessed to have a workforce – permanent employees and law clerks alike – intensely loyal to the institution and dedicated to the rule of law. Court employees have an exemplary and important tradition of respecting the confidentiality of the judicial process and upholding the trust of the Court. This was a singular and egregious breach of that trust that is an affront to the Court and the community of public servants who work here.
 
I have directed the Marshal of the Court to launch an investigation into the source of the leak. 
The "Summer of Love" 2.0?

The leak of a draft Supreme Court opinion signaling the majority’s intention to overturn Roe vs. Wade is an ominous indication of what may be in store for the country over the next six months. Expect actions aimed at preventing such a decision from being finalized and/or influencing this fall’s elections.

They might include institutional assaults like ending the Senate filibuster to enact pro-abortion legislation and perhaps pack the Supreme Court.

Alternatively, there may be physical threats against its justices. Or perhaps even a renewed “color revolution” laying waste to American cities like the so-called “Summer of Love” two years ago.

The latter require an end to the Biden administration’s politicization and weaponization of U.S. national and homeland security agencies against its partisan foes. Real threats to freedom must be countered, not deflections like “white supremacists,” “insurrectionists” and “disinformation.”

For the entire first year of the Biden Administration, the left routinely raised the specter of eliminating the filibuster and stuffing the Supreme Court with however many leftwing hacks they need so it will be nothing more than a rubber stamp for every decision of the authoritarian state. 

The left doubled down on those threats last night, and every left-wing politician is willing to enable that attack on our constitutional system of government.

So, am I shocked that some leftist clerk or maybe even a liberal justice leaked a draft of Justice Alito's pro-life opinion? Not at all. I'm only shocked that it took them this long.

Supreme Court clerks are the elite of our law school graduates. If a clerk did in fact leak the opinion, they committed what some have described as "the gravest, most unforgivable sin." 

A leak like this is so serious that the clerk could well be disbarred and prevented from ever becoming a lawyer. Chief Justice John Roberts has ordered the Marshal of the Court to begin an immediate investigation of this "egregious breach of trust." 

But I say this with no fear of contradiction – when the individual is identified, they will be a national hero, a civil rights icon on the order of Martin Luther King, Jr. The left is already celebrating the anonymous individual. 

They will get a book contract. They will be on every talk show. Their following on social media will rival AOC's. They will be welcomed by adoring crowds on university campuses. All because they did whatever they had to do to make sure America continues killing innocent babies. 
So, back to my main point. 

The most important thing that every American who shares our values can do today is to quietly consider these questions: Do I understand the times I'm living in? Do I realize the moment in history this is? 

This is not the 1950s or even the tumultuous 60s. It's not the Reagan years, God rest his soul. This is either the final years of the American Republic, or the moment we wake up and save the country.

Those are the only two options, my friends. 

It's time to stop being "shocked" at what the left is willing to do. 

It's time to start fighting back for the sake of our families and our future.

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
 
A PROCLAMATION
 
     On this National Day of Prayer, Americans reaffirm that prayer guides and strengthens our Nation, and we express, with humility and gratitude, our "firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence."  As one Nation under God, we share a legacy of faith that sustains and inspires us and a heritage of religious liberty.  Today, we join together and lift up our hearts, remembering the words of 1 John 5:14 that tell us when "we ask anything according to His will, He hears us."  

     From our earliest days, our dependence upon God has brought us to seek His divine counsel and unfailing wisdom.  Our leaders have often encouraged their fellow citizens to seek wisdom from God and have recognized God's power to lead our Nation ahead to brighter days.  When the prospects for our independence seemed bleak, General George Washington proclaimed a national day of "fasting, humiliation and prayer, humbly to supplicate the mercy of Almighty God."  Following the devastating destruction of the Civil War, President Lincoln delivered his second inaugural address and invoked the power of prayer to "bind up the nation's wounds."  And more than 100 years later, President Reagan noted our long reliance on prayer throughout our history, writing that "through the storms of revolution, Civil War, and the great world wars as well as during times of disillusionment and disarray, the Nation has turned to God in prayer for deliverance." 

     Today, as much as ever, our prayerful tradition continues as our Nation combats the coronavirus.  During the past weeks and months, our heads have bowed at places outside of our typical houses of worship, whispering in silent solitude for God to renew our spirit and carry us through unforeseen and seemingly unbearable hardships.  Even though we have been unable to gather together in fellowship with our church families, we are still connected through prayer and the calming reassurance that God will lead us through life's many valleys.  In the midst of these trying and unprecedented times, we are reminded that just as those before us turned to God in their darkest hours, so must we seek His wisdom, strength, and healing hand.  We pray that He comforts those who have lost loved ones, heals those who are sick, strengthens those on the front lines, and reassures all Americans that through trust in Him, we can overcome all obstacles.

     May we never forget that prayer guides and empowers our Nation and that all things are possible with God.  In times of prosperity, strife, peace, and war, Americans lean on His infinite love, grace, and understanding.  Today, on this National Day of Prayer, let us come together and pray to the Almighty that through overcoming this coronavirus pandemic, we develop even greater faith in His divine providence.

     In 1988, the Congress, by Public Law 100-307, as amended, called on the President to issue each year a proclamation designating the first Thursday in May as a National Day of Prayer, "on which the people of the United States may turn to God in prayer and meditation at churches, in groups, and as individuals."

     NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim May 7, 2020, as a National Day of Prayer.  I encourage all Americans to observe this day, reflecting on the blessings our Nation has received and the importance of prayer, with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities in their houses of worship, communities, and places of work, schools, and homes consistent with the White House's "Guidelines for Opening up America Again."

very 'worst year' ever to be alive

Holocaust Survivors Reunite in Florida After a Labor Camp Friendship was Broken 80 Years Ago

Those who say there’s no such thing as destiny need to meet Jack Waksal and Sam Ron, victims who met during the Holocaust, and who met again 79 years later in South Florida. Having endured slave labor shoulder to shoulder in the Pionki Labor Camp in Poland, the two were separated after Waksal escaped into the forest, and Ron was moved to a different camp that was ultimately liberated.

Neither knew the other had survived, until Waksal attended a United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s South Florida Dinner last Sunday, and found his old camp comrade to be the guest speaker. Introduced by his former name of Shmuel Rakowski, Waksal felt as if he was seeing a fraternal brother. “He jumped off the seat and came running over to my seat and says you’re my brother, I was very emotional, I’m normally not a very emotional guy,” Ron explained, according to NBC Miami.

Just teenagers at the time of their imprisonment, the two managed to both immigrate to the United States, specifically to Ohio, where they both lived for 40 years unaware of each other’s existence before eventually moving to South Florida. “We were pushing coal to the oven to make heat to make power, and Jack said he worked at the same place!” Ron said of their time in the camp, according to CBS. “Hard work, bad conditions, cold, hunger, hundreds of people died. It wasn’t uncommon to wake up in the morning and find the person next to you cold.”

Despite living 40 miles apart, the two men are determined to keep the survivor’s flames burning, and fill in the massive gap of years with life stories. Ron occasionally makes appearances at schools to teach young people about his experiences. “I try to teach them not to hate, and to have a lot of hope and believe in yourself, this is what I did, this is how I survived because I believe in myself,” Ron said. Ari Odzer, reporting for NBC, says succinctly of the pair, that they revenged themselves against Adolf Hitler: by living long successful lives and having children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
