Hotel cancels Pro Israel Gathering after Pro Hamas Thugs Threaten Violence
|
|
A pro-Israel gathering scheduled to take place in Nashville, TN next week was abruptly canceled by the hotel hosting the event after staff were inundated with threatening phone calls.
First Liberty Institute, a non-profit legal group, sent a letter to the Sonesta Nashville Airport Hotel urging it to fulfill its contractual obligation to HaYovel, a Christian ministry with a location in Israel, that was scheduled to hold the Israel Summit from May 20th-22nd.
The peaceful gathering was intended to educate Christians on fighting antisemitism and explain to believers their biblical connection with the Holy Land.
But according to HaYovel, "pro-Hamas thugs" began calling the Sonesta Hotel last week threatening them with violence for hosting the event.
"On May 10th, after speaking with local police, the hotel leadership contacted HaYovel, notifying them that they were dropping their contract," said Luke Hilton, the marketing director for HaYovel.
"The police were concerned that the hotel, their guests, local businesses, and attendees to the Israel Summit would be in physical danger due to the threatening nature of the calls and messages they have received," he added.
Robert Stearns, pastor and founder of Eagles' Wings Ministries, says canceling the event is "like unto Nazi Germany."
"[This] is something that will redefine our nation. It will redefine what it means to live in America," he said.
Stearns added, "It is a dark day for America but there is still hope. We can still turn this around but we are only going to turn this around if the Church wakes up and gets active and gets loud immediately. So please do so."
"Our constitutional right to assembly, our constitutional right to freedom, our constitutional right to free speech, our constitutional right to be guarded by our law enforcement for religious freedom...all of this is being canceled because Hamas thugs are speaking out and denying our rights as Americans to gather," he continued. We pray for this hotel to have a change of heart and choose to stand up for what is right and defend the rights of our Jewish brothers and sisters. We pray for all of our leaders and representatives, Lord, that You would cause them to fight for unity among us all, and grow in Godly wisdom to learn how they can bring us all together and make our country better, in Jesus name, amen.

Attorney Representing Sponsor of Israel Summit Details Why the Sonesta Hotel Must Reverse Course and Hold Event, Citing ‘Unlawful Religious Discrimination’

Hirram Sasser, Executive General Counsel for First Liberty Institute, said the Sonesta Nashville Airport Hotel’s decision to break its contractual obligation to host the 2024 Israel Summit next week is an of discrimination.
The 2024 Israel Summit, scheduled to be held on May 20-22, was originally planned to be hosted at the Sonesta Hotel until hotel leadership contacted one of the summit’s sponsors, HaYovel, notifying the group that they were dropping their contract to host the event, citing “threatening” calls and messages.
Local groups including Palestine Hurra Collective Nashville, a pro-Palestine group, and Nour Nashville, a community organizing group that advocates for the “Palestine cause,” were among the organizations that publicly called for its members to call the Sonesta Hotel’s general manager and demand they make the decision to back out of hosting the Israel Summit.
In a letter to Troy Carver, the general manager at the Sonesta Hotel, Sasser – who represents HaYovel – said the hotel’s decision to drop its contract to host the summit is “unlawful religious discrimination in a place of public accommodation,” as previously reported by The Tennessee Star.
Sasser (pictured above) echoed that argument during Monday’s edition of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show, adding that the hotel is not only breaking the law, but also siding with “pro-terrorists” by breaking its contract to host the summit. (The Tennessee Star)

Supreme Court Justices Thomas and Alito Issue Warnings About State of America

In separate remarks at two different events on Friday, Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito issued warnings about the state of affairs in America today, including support for freedom of speech “declining dangerously” and the nation’s capital becoming a “hideous” place where cancel culture runs rampant.
Justice Thomas spoke at a conference of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in Point Clear, Alabama, while Justice Alito delivered a commencement address at the Franciscan University of Steubenville, a Catholic college in Ohio, with both of the conservative-minded judges painting a dark picture—while encouraging action and offering hope.
At the Alabama event, Justice Thomas was asked to comment by the moderator—U.S. District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle—about what it’s like to work “in a world that seems meanspirited.”
“I think there’s challenges to that,” Justice Thomas said. “We’re in a world and we—certainly my wife and I the last two or three years it’s been—just the nastiness and the lies, it’s just incredible.”
Justice Thomas has faced heavy fire from Democrats who accuse him of skirting disclosure rules, of corruption in general, and of being too cozy with wealthy Republicans. They have not been able to point to any specific court cases in which the justice has misbehaved. Some activists have even pushed for Justice Thomas’s impeachment.
By contrast, over 100 former Supreme Court clerks signed an open letter last year defending Justice Thomas’s integrity, calling him a man of “unwavering principle” whose independence is “unshakable.” They called various critical stories that have targeted him as “malicious” and “perpetuating the ugly assumption that the Justice cannot think for himself.” (The Epoch Times) Read more here

- Yes, Lord God, we completely agree that freedom of speech is declining in this nation rapidly. There’s a reason why freedom of speech was a part of the First Amendment in our Bill of Rights because we can’t have any other rights if this one is not first established. Lord, right now we pray for our First Amendment and all the rights that we hold so dear here in America. May they be protected and defended with the same passion that once was. Speaker Johnson Says Trump Trial Is a
‘Travesty of Justice’

In a brief press conference held outside the Manhattan courthouse where former President Donald Trump’s New York trial is ongoing, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) strongly criticized the proceedings, calling them a “travesty of justice” on Tuesday, May 14.
Mr. Johnson, a former litigator and the current highest-ranking Republican, expressed his outrage at the legal proceedings and the broader implications for the American judicial system. He said he called President Trump and told him he wanted to be at the trial in person.
“I am disgusted by what is happening here—what is being done here to our entire system of justice overall,” Mr. Johnson said. “I wanted to be here myself to call out what is a travesty of justice, and I think everybody around the country can see that. President Trump is a friend, and I wanted to be here to support him.”
Restrictions and Concerns
The press conference took place outside the courthouse, as Mr. Johnson noted that the court did not permit statements to be made inside the building. “That’s just one of the many things that are wrong here,” he added.
Mr. Johnson condemned the trial, now in its fifth week, as a deliberate attempt to hinder President Trump’s 2024 campaign efforts.
“They are doing this intentionally to keep him here and keep him off the campaign trail, and I think everybody in the country can see that for what it is,” he said.
The speaker did not mince words in his criticism of the key figures involved in the trial, accusing them of blatant partisanship.
“What we’ve got here is a partisan Democrat district attorney, we have a Biden donor judge, and we have an assistant DA who was recently a top official at the Department of Justice, Biden’s DOJ, and recently received over $10,000 in payments from the Democratic National Committee,” he said.
Erosion of Public Trust
Mr. Johnson voiced his discontent with the trial’s implications for the justice system.
“The people are losing faith right now in this country in our institutions. They’re losing faith in our system of justice, and the reason for that is because they see it being abused as it is being done here in New York,” he said.
Mr. Johnson emphasized the importance of facts in a trial, noting that President Trump’s actions had previously been reviewed with no charges filed. (The Epoch Times) Read more

The UN Security Council will convene on Thursday, for the first time since the Hamas massacre of October 7, for a special discussion that will focus on the situation of the hostages being held by Hamas in Gaza and on promoting ways to release them.
The discussion was scheduled following prolonged efforts by Israel’s Ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, and by joint work with the US delegation to the UN, which initiated the discussion by virtue of being a member of the Security Council. (Read more)

2. Israel Strikes Hamas War Room Set Up in UNRWA School, Kills At Least 15 Terrorists: IDF - Algemeiner
Israeli fighter jets struck a Hamas command center embedded in a school in Gaza run by the UN agency responsible for Palestinian refugees, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Tuesday.
“The strike was carefully planned and carried out using precise munitions while avoiding harming civilians as much as possible,” the military said in a statement, adding that the operation came about due to “accurate intelligence” provided by the Shin Bet security agency and Military Intelligence Directorate.
The IDF and Shin Bet said the war room was used by Hamas, the Palestinian terrorist group that rules the Gaza Strip, to plan attacks against Israeli troops operating in central Gaza. (Read More)

3. Israeli tanks move deeper into Rafah, Palestinians say, as 450,000 flee - Times of Israel
Israeli tanks forged deeper into eastern Rafah on Tuesday, reaching some residential districts of the southern border city where more than a million people had been sheltering after being displaced due the war against Hamas in Gaza.
“The tanks advanced this morning west of Salahuddin Road into the Brzail and Jneina neighborhoods. They are in the streets inside the built-up area and there are clashes,” one resident told Reuters via a chat app.
Video on social media showed one tank on George Street in Al-Jneina neighborhood. Reuters could not verify the video. (Read more)

4. One dead, five injured in Hezbollah missile attack on northern Israel - World Israel News
One person was killed and five more injured in northern Israel Tuesday after Hezbollah terrorists operating out of southern Lebanon fired an anti-tank missile across the border, hitting Kibbutz Adamit in the Western Galilee.
Hezbollah terrorists fired multiple missiles at Kibbutz Adamit Tuesday, with one direct hit reported.
A civilian was fatally injured in the attack. According to preliminary reports, the man is not a resident of Adamit, but was visiting a friend who lives in the kibbutz.
Emergency first responders were dispatched to the scene to treat the victims and evacuate them to local hospitals. (Read more)

5. Two men accused in UK of plotting ISIS-style machine gun terror attack on Jews -Times of Israel
LONDON, UK — Two men accused of plotting to gun down Jews in an Islamic State-inspired attack in northwest England were held without bail Tuesday after appearing in a London court.
Walid Saadaoui, 36, and Amar Hussein, 50, were accused of planning to use machine guns to kill Jews, police and military personnel, prosecutors said in Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
The duo face charges of preparing terrorist acts between December 13 and May 9.
A third man, Bilel Saadaoui, 35, was accused of making arrangements for the expected death of his brother, co-defendant Walid Saadaoui. (Read more)

1. Anti-Israel agitators arrested near Disney World after creating traffic nightmare - MSN News
Florida police arrested three anti-Israel agitators on Saturday afternoon after they blocked traffic on Interstate 4 near Walt Disney World. FOX 35 in Orlando reported that troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene and found three women holding "Free Palestine" signs while blocking traffic in the westbound lanes of Interstate 4 at Exit 67.
The three women – 26-year-old Isabella Giannosa; 24-year-old My Truong; and 24-year-old Jenni Nguyen – were taken into custody and arrested before being transported to the Orange County Jail and charged with misdemeanor refusal to obey a police officer.
After the incident, police discovered two vehicles parked on the ramp to the interstate, which were then towed away from the scene. Video obtained by the station shows the trio of women, all wearing facial coverings, and holding pro-Palestinian banners in the middle of the westbound ramp lanes near Disney Springs. (Read more)

2. DOJ requests judge order Steve Bannon to begin prison sentence - DML News
After a federal appeals court upheld former Trump advisor Steve Bannon’s contempt of congress conviction last week, the Justice Department is now asking a judge to send Bannon to prison, according to a letter from prosecutors on Tuesday.
Prosecutors said there is no legal basis for Judge Carl Nichols to continue the stay on Bannon serving his sentence after the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals’ conclusive ruling that rejected the basis for Bannon’s appeal on all grounds.
Bannon was sentenced to four months in prison for contempt in October 2022, but Nichols agreed to postpone the jail term while Bannon appealed the decision. (Read more)

3. The jaw-dropping amount that US home prices have surged since 2020 - DML News
Over the past four years, home prices have increased by a whopping 47.1%, according to a recent analysis by ResiClub of the Case-Shiller National Home Price Index. Some of the causes for the skyrocketing prices include years of underbuilding, which has resulted in a shortage of homes, along with expensive construction costs and rising mortgage rates.
Additionally, buyers who were able to get a 3% mortgage rate or less during the pandemic are now more reluctant to sell.
Fox Business reports that a separate survey conducted by Redfin shows the combination of steep mortgage rates and elevated home prices has pushed the median monthly housing payment to a record $2,775 — an 11% increase from the same time last year. (Read more)

4. NY Appeals Court issues decision on judge’s gag order against Trump - DML News
Former President Donald Trump had filed an appeal on the gag order placed upon him by New York Judge Juan Merchan. Tuesday morning, a New York Appeals Court ruled in favor of the judge, denying Trump’s appeal and leaving the gag order in place.
Trump’s appeal of the gag order was denied by New York’s First Department of the state Supreme Court’s Appellate Division, which ruled presiding Judge Juan Merchan “properly weighed” Trump’s First Amendment right to free speech “against the court’s historical commitment to ensuring the fair administration of justice in criminal cases.”
The gag order forbids Trump from commenting publicly on witnesses or potential witnesses, jurors, court employees or their families in DA Alvin Bragg’s ‘hush money’ trial. (Read more)

5. House GOP takes steps to hold AG Garland in contempt of Congress - DML News
House Republicans from two separate committees are moving forward with a plan to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress over his failure to produce the subpoenaed audio recording of President Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur during his classified records probe, according to a Fox News report.
House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, R-Ky., and House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, had previously threatened to hold Garland in contempt of Congress over the Justice Department’s failure to produce the audio recordings. Each committee will meet Thursday at 11:00 a.m. on Capitol Hill.
Last month, the DOJ notified the two committees that they had already provided a written transcript of Biden’s interview with Hur, and therefore would not be handing over the audio of the same interview. (Read more)

6. Biden voter mobilization effort to be probed by House Oversight Committee - DML News
The House Oversight Committee is investigating an executive order from the Biden administration that directs the federal government to mobilize “underrepresented” voting groups. Republican Chairman James Comer of Kentucky has requested documents and details regarding the creation and execution of Biden’s expansive “Executive Order on Promoting Access to Voting” from Office of Management and Budget Director Shalanda Young. The request includes a deadline of May 28 for the production of documents and a staff-level briefing to be held by May 20, as per a letter obtained by RealClearPolitics.
The action by the Biden administration is likely unconstitutional and unlawful. Comer views the order as potentially enabling “the executive branch to circumvent the legislative process,” which is why he is asking Young to clarify the “constitutional or statutory authority the President relied on,” as well as all “White House and OMB documents and communications” pertaining to the drafting of the initiative.
The Biden administration is pushing back against the probe, characterizing its voter mobilization efforts as a solution to “discriminatory policies and other obstacles … disproportionally affecting black, non-English-speaking, handicapped, and other minority voters.” (Read more)

7. Blinken, guitar in hand, tells Ukraine to keep 'rockin' in the free world' - Reuters
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday picked up a red guitar at a basement bar in Kyiv with a message for Ukraine - that the U.S. and much of the world was fighting not just for Ukraine but for the free world.
Blinken, who while in Kyiv this week has pledged unwavering U.S. support as Russia has intensified attacks in Ukraine, joined band 19.99 on stage at Barman Dictat in the capital city. They played Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World", a rock anthem released in 1989 just before the fall of the Berlin Wall.
"Your soldiers, your citizens - particularly in the northeast, in Kharkiv - are suffering tremendously. But they need to know, you need to know, the United States is with you, so much of the world is with you and they're fighting not just for a free Ukraine, but for the free world. And the free world is with you, too," Blinken said before playing the song. Blinken watched most of 19.99's set before the lead singer introduced him as a "great friend of Ukraine." He then joined them on stage to play the song with the chorus "keep on rockin' in the free world". (Read more)

They Accuse Others Of What They Are Doing

Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) accused supporters of Donald Trump of “training up in the hills” for a civil war if Trump does not get elected to office. On May 5th’s MSNBC’s “The Sunday Show,” Waters called on the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Joe Biden to investigate “all of those right-wing organizations that he [Trump] is connected with who are training up in the hills somewhere and targeting, you know what communities they are going to attack.” She wants to know how Biden and DOJ will “protect this country against violence” if Trump loses. You can bet Waters is signaling that the Democrats have people in training to stand against those who disagree with them. In fact, they are already activated.
Let’s look at the pro-terrorist demonstrations at university campuses across the country. These are not only filled with hate speech against Jews and Israel, they are also burning the American flag, chanting “Death to America” and raising the terrorist Palestinian flag above the US Flag. All the while, Democrats are saying they are proud of these students for standing up for their beliefs. Interesting that conservatives and Christians are accused of violent behavior, when in fact, it is the leftists supported by Democratic Party fundraisers who are raising the sword of violence across the country. The Sonesta Hotel in Nashville, TN, has been intimidated with threats of violence from Hamas sympathizers and coerced into canceling The Israel Summit, a peaceful gathering intended to educate Christians on fighting anti-semitism and on their biblical connection with the Holy Land. Allegedly, the Nashville Police told the Sonesta hotel that they cannot guarantee safety and protection from violence toward the hotel, its workers, guests, and neighboring businesses, which have allegedly also been threatened, leading the Sonesta Hotel to break contract with the event organizer.
This cancellation potentially violates the terms of the contract between the Sonesta Hotel and the event organizer, HaYovel (Hebrew for “Jubilee”), and is considered unlawful religious discrimination, impacting not only the Christian organization, but also the over 400 Americans from multiple states who have pre-registered to attend.
This will not stop here.... The Rule of Law has been violated!

- Urge Nashville law enforcement to fulfill their duty to protect citizens participating in lawful activity at the Sonesta hotel against all enemies, “foreign and DOMESTIC.”
- Fulfill your sworn duties to defend the constitutional rights of all Americans, including the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly, the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion, and the right to freedom of speech.

Hundreds of millions of people around the world have been treated to dazzling displays of the Northern Lights after a historic geomagnetic storm slammed into Earth on Friday, and incredible time-lapse videos recorded across North America and Europe are providing breathtaking views of vibrant colors dancing across the night sky.
The beautiful spectacle was certainly enjoyed in areas that aren’t unfamiliar with the Northern Lights, but the intensity of the geomagnetic storm, which hasn’t been experienced on Earth since 2003, allowed for the auroras to be seen as far south as Florida and Texas in the southern U.S., and even in northern Mexico.

Surgeon who fled communist China, changed lives of blind orphans is the subject of inspiring new film
|
|
A new film out Memorial Day weekend tells the inspiring real-life story of how a poor Chinese immigrant escaped communism to become a world-renowned eye surgeon in the United States. "In 1982, with $50 and a Chinese-English dictionary in my pocket, knowing no one in this country, could hardly speak English, I came to America," Nashville-based Dr. Ming Wang told Fox News Digital. "Even though I was poor, I was happy. Why? Because I was free." Angel Studios' biographical drama "Sight" retells how Wang endured poverty and hardships growing up in 1970s China to pursue his dream of coming to America to become a doctor. Despite his hardships, he ultimately invented a breakthrough technology that has helped restore eyesight for millions of people around the world.
Wang almost didn't even finish high school, though, because of China's Cultural Revolution. Universities were shut down for ten years and the college entrance exam was stopped. Young people were forced into labor camps or had to learn a musical instrument to join a government song-and-dance troupe. Despite these setbacks, Wang studied hard to complete three years' worth of high school curriculum in just two months after the revolution ended. Through determination and support from his parents, Wang eventually made it to America to study abroad at the University of Maryland, where he received his PhD in laser physics. Wang went on to get his MD at Harvard and MIT so he could become a laser eye surgeon. Wang's experience growing up in poverty gave him a desire to help restore the sight of blind orphans around the world.
